00:16492 people so far.
00:23President and Executive Vice President of Venezuela and Minister of Oil held a meeting
00:26with authorities of the global energy company Repsol.
00:34And Hurricane John reaches Category 2 facing the Pacific coast and advances its course
00:39towards southern Mexico.
00:48Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana,
00:52Cuba.
00:53We begin with the news.
00:54In Lebanon, more than 492 people were killed by the Israeli occupation forces in new air
01:00raids against the south of the country.
01:03According to local media reports, the occupation troops carried out new air raids on Monday
01:08against several Hezbollah resistance military centres as part of the escalation of hostilities.
01:13This is one of the most intense aerial bombardments in almost a year against the Lebanese resistance
01:18movement which have also left more than 1,645 wounded.
01:23However, Israeli leaders promise harsher actions in the coming days.
01:28The Lebanese health ministry warned that the balance of death and wounded are mostly women
01:33and children and also affirmed that at least 300 targets, including civilian areas, have
01:39been bombed.
01:45United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that Lebanon could become
01:50another Gaza in the midst of escalating Israeli attacks against the Hezbollah resistance movement.
01:55Guterres referred to the recent detonation of communication devices in Lebanon and conceded
02:01that such action shows that there is a potential for a much stronger escalation which he fears
02:07could be a devastating tragedy for the world.
02:10The Israeli army and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire across their borders since October 8th
02:16last year, raising fears that the clashes could escalate into a full-scale war.
02:40The United Nations organization denounced the dire conditions in which Palestinian children
02:45are living due to the constant Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
02:49The organization stressed that thousands of Gazan children suffer psychological trauma
02:54as a result of the Zionist regime's attacks.
02:56The spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in
03:01the Near East, Adnan Abu Hasna, said that around 600,000 Gazan children have no shelter,
03:07water, food or basic services.
03:10He added that if the constant bombardments and forced displacement continue, a whole
03:15generation of students will be lost.
03:17He also stated that the situation requires an international intervention to stop the
03:22losses at all levels, especially in the education sector.
03:32And in the context of the Summit of the Future held by the United Nations, Cuba's foreign
03:37minister Bruno RodrĂguez, in a meeting with the non-aligned government, reaffirmed his
03:42support for the Palestinian cause and advocated the country's admission as a full member
03:47of the organization.
03:48Through social networks, the Cuban foreign minister said at the NAM ministerial meeting,
03:54We reaffirm Cuba's firm commitment and solidarity with the just Palestinian cause and with its
04:00early accession as a full member of the United Nations.
04:03We will continue to contribute to legitimate international efforts to put an end to the
04:08Israeli genocide in Palestine.
04:16During the United Nations Summit of the Future, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Iván Gil, on
04:21behalf of the group of friends in defence of the United Nations Charter, reiterated
04:26the importance of respecting people's right to self-determination and called, once again,
04:31for a ceasefire in Gaza at the end of the Israeli occupation in the territory and the
04:35recognition of Palestine as a member state.
04:39We reiterate our appeal for a ceasefire in Gaza, as well as for justice in the end to
04:48the illegal Israeli occupation, and our appeal for the Security Council to fully shoulder
04:55its responsibilities, including by favourably reconsidering the application of Palestine
05:02for fully-fledged membership of the United Nations.
05:06Remaining silent is not an option, as this will only embolden the occupying power as
05:16it continues to commit grave violations of international law and complete impunity.

05:33Welcome back.
05:45In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro held a meeting with authorities of the global energy
05:49company Repsol to establish new alliances, cooperation and energy development in the
05:54country.
05:55The Venezuelan president received at the Miraflores Palace in the city of Caracas the International
06:00Executive Director of Repsol, Luis Antonio García Sánchez, President of Repsol Venezuela
06:05José Carlos de Vicente Bravo, accompanied by the Executive Vice President of Venezuela
06:10and Minister of Oil, Delsi RodrĂguez, and the President of PDVSA, HĂ©ctor ObregĂłn.
06:14During the meeting, the Vice President stated that the country continues to advance in energy
06:19cooperation plans and in alliances with companies such as Repsol, who invest in the world's
06:25first oil reserve, while the head of state, Nicolás Maduro, reiterated the call to all
06:30investors to seal important alliances in the energy, gas and petrochemical areas.
06:43President Nicolás Maduro assured that despite 90% of the losses in income due to the criminal
06:48sanctions, Venezuela today has one of the greatest achievements and that is the production
06:52of 100% of foodstuffs.
06:55Leading a meeting in the Caracas city with the team of the Landless Rural Workers' Movement
07:00of Brazil, the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, emphasised that the meeting seeks
07:04to promote the changes needed for the country.
07:07The President explained that the Landless Workers' Movement is carrying out a cooperation
07:12agenda with the country to promote a new society with a new economic model.
07:16The head of state explained that this is a large-scale project with more than 10,000
07:21sectors, so the scope must be defined and the communal force must be incorporated.
07:27The Venezuelan President assured that the social and productive projects in the country
07:31have increased the production of food.
07:41Venezuela has achieved a miracle.
07:43Some people say that what we have achieved in food production and the economy is a miracle.
07:48And there are those who are at the head of this plan that say, no, it's not a miracle,
07:53it's a plan.
07:54And I say, it's a miracle resulting from a plan.
07:58Venezuela for the first time in 100 years, please correct me if I'm wrong, check it,
08:03in 100 years, in 120 years rather, when oil became hegemonic, when an economically dependent
08:10and venture model was imposed in Venezuela, our food was never produced in Venezuela.
08:16Today I can tell you that one of the greatest achievements of the period of resistance,
08:20of suffering, of attacks, of sanctions, of threats, one of the great achievements of
08:26this country and of the productive forces of this country, the forces in the countryside,
08:31is that 100% of the food Venezuelans eat at home is produced in Venezuela.
08:42In Venezuela, the development of the popular assemblies of the social and grassroots organizations
08:47continue towards the Congress of the Five Generations.
08:50These assemblies, which take place throughout the national territory, seek to prioritize
08:55projects and concretize proposals for transformations in the communal sectors with a view to the
09:00National Congress of the Five Generations.
09:03In this Congress that will take place on the fourth, fifth and sixth days of October, the
09:08collective problems of the communities will be prioritized.
09:11The same arises from the aproposal of President Nicolás Maduro with the purpose of promoting
09:16the debate throughout the country for the government plan for the next three decades
09:21and listen to the population's criteria with a view to building the country.
09:31The Congress of the Five Generations and the Seven Forces of the Fatherland brings together
09:36all the generation's protagonists of the construction of the country, listen to all
09:40voices and bring ideas around the necessary transformations that the country needs towards
09:452031.
09:46In that sense, the communities are gathering to participate in the implementation of the
09:50seven transformations and to help building the management map for the next 30 years.
09:56The Congress is based on the proposal of President Nicolás Maduro to promote debate in the country,
10:01and listen to the population's criteria around the existing problems.
10:12On Monday, the Government of Colombia requested a security summit with Venezuela and Mexico
10:16to debate on the risk posed by the Israeli software Pegasus and the scope of espionage.
10:22This way, Colombian Senator Antonio Correa reported that the Pegasus spy software purchased
10:27for $11 million by the government of Iván Duque from Israel aims at destabilizing progressive
10:34governments such as Venezuela and Mexico.
10:37President Gustavo Petro described the acquisition of the spy software as a serious violation
10:41of the privacy of citizens, so an investigation was initiated to determine whether crimes
10:47were committed in this alleged espionage operation or not.
11:00I believe that information must be urgently shared among brotherly countries so that we
11:09can determine who was the person or entity that took the $11 million in financial transactions
11:14and cash to Israel.
11:20Because this issue cannot be forgotten, and it cannot be said that because we did not
11:24find legal traces, then there was no spyware.
11:29Furthermore, Senator Correa indicated that Colombia will provide all the warranties that
11:35exist before the investigation that will be carried out on the Israeli software Pegasus.
11:43The Colombian Congress has the responsibility, and so everything that is within the constitutional
11:49and legal framework we will do, and we will be working on that, because it is our president,
11:56it is our democracy and it is the stability of a people like the Colombian people, who
12:01decided and is accompanying the government of President Petro.
12:06And so we have the responsibility that all the guarantees exist, that all the investigations
12:12happen and that there are no forbidden topics in our democracy.
12:16Let's review more information about the operation of the Israeli software Pegasus.
12:20Pegasus is a program that is installed without informed consent on mobile devices, which
12:25was developed by the Israeli cybernetic firm NSO.
12:29The software is hosted on the victim's cell phone through a link or after accessing a
12:34site and remains working in the device's background.
12:38Furthermore, it works as a remote control that allows the attacker to execute commands
12:42remotely.
12:44With this malware, the attacker gains access to text messages, calls, passwords and even
12:50to the GPS location of the attack device.
13:00In Bolivia, the march led by former President Evo Morales arrived in the city of La Paz,
13:06while the government of President Luis Arce reiterated its willingness to dialogue for
13:10national peace.
13:11After seven days of march, the march arrived to La Paz in a route that crossed different
13:16points of the country.
13:18Last Sunday, former President Evo Morales assured that this was the largest march in
13:22history, with the support of different sectors of the country.
13:26President Luis Arce, for his part, appealed for dialogue in the terms proposed by the
13:30ombudsman to warranty peace in the state.
13:39During his declarations, former President Evo Morales indicated that they are given
13:4324 hours to pass a law approved by the Senate on June 6 for the construction of a highway
13:49in Cochabamba.
13:50Morales affirmed that if the decisions of the council are not approved, new mobilizations
13:55will take place.
13:56He also gave a term of 24 hours for a change of ministers to be carried out.

14:39southern Mexico.
14:40According to authorities, severe hurricane-force winds and flash floods are expected, which
14:45could put the inhabitants of southern Mexico at risk.
14:49In this regard, the National Hurricane Center issued a Hurricane and Tropical Storm Warning

15:46The National Executive further requested the military entity to quantify the necessary
15:51resources to plan and execute actions in the field, and to designate a series of officers
15:56to form a joint command.
16:05In this context, in Argentina, after the fires that have destroyed more than 40,000 hectares
16:09in the province of Cordoba, social movements requested the national government to declare
16:14the country in a state of emergency.
16:16To date, more than 20 houses have been burned and dozens of people have been evacuated due
16:22to the blazes that have spread to other localities, such as Azcoxinga, La Granja and San Marcos
16:28Sierra.
16:29Precisely in the latter, the fire, which began in August and has had large outbreaks, devastated
16:35part of the diversity of the region's native forest and burned some 12,000 hectares.
16:44Meanwhile, in Bolivia, firefighting operations continue with two heavy aircraft and three
16:50armed forces helicopters in the affected regions.
16:53The Bolivian Air Force reported that they currently have three heavy aircraft with a

17:06on Sunday in the Monteverde area as a prioritised region to safeguard the population.
17:18In Colombia, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management indicated that the maximum
17:22alert continues at a national level due to at least 14 active forest fires and more than
17:2810,000 hectares affected.
17:30To date, authorities indicated that the Department of Tolima is the hardest hit area and emergency
17:35teams remain deployed to quell the fire.

17:52According to customs data from both nations, Russia supplied to China about 872,000 tonnes
17:59of liquefied natural gas in July, being the highest figure during the last 12 months.
18:04The information points out that Moscow surged its oil supply to China by over a quarter,
18:10reaching 2.21 million barrels per day.
18:13This increase occurs despite attempts of the Western countries to expel the Russian hydrocarbons
18:18from the global market and damage its economy.

22:07I called for this summit to consider deep reforms to make global institutions more legitimate,
22:15fair and effective, based on the values of the UN Charter.
22:20I called for this summit because 21st century challenges require 21st century solutions,
22:28frameworks that are networked and inclusive, and that draw on the expertise of all of humanity.
22:37I called for this summit because our world is heading off the rails, and we need tough
