00:00Hello, movies in a nutshell here. Today we are working for you on a sci-fi drama series from 2020 called The Midnight Sky.
00:07Before we start, most of you who watch our movies are not subscribed to our channel, so if you can do that, we would be very grateful to you because you support our channel.
00:16Augustine is an elderly man with a terminal illness and was left in the observatory on Earth to follow the instructions from the astronauts to find a planet that has the ability to support human life while everyone else is on the island evacuating.
00:30He lives alone in the observatory, sleeping, drinking and taking his own meals.
00:35He gives himself a transfusion of blood and takes medication throughout the day.
00:39Decades before, Augustine gave lessons to hundreds of people about the planet, the universe, which could potentially support life, such as K-23.
00:48During the entertainment, women come to him and start flirting.
00:51They take a few drinks together and she tests him on the validity of the book he just published about K-23.
00:57Augustine wakes up and starts looking at his computer, whose missions are still active.
01:01Most of them are inactive, but he catches his eye.
01:04It turns out that the ETHER is the last remaining mission and Augustine looks through the pictures of the crew.
01:10He notices a picture of a woman he recognizes and decides to start contacting her.
01:14Sally, that is, the woman in the picture, is part of the five-member team on ETHER and she is in charge of communication.
01:21She has a nightmare that she was left on K-23.
01:25She is hardworking and has a good relationship with the rest of the crew, especially with Captain Aide, the father of the child.
01:31When Sally goes to the operating room, she receives a strange signal that cannot be deciphered and warns the rest of the crew.
01:37Back on Earth, Augustine goes through his usual routine until the fire alarm is activated in the observatory.
01:43He follows the smoke all the way to the kitchen, where he puts out the fire and falls into a state of exhaustion.
01:49From his perspective, he sees a little girl lurking under the sink.
01:53He is scared because she is abandoned.
01:55Augustine secretly tries to get in touch with someone on the radio to report the little girl, but is not able to contact anyone.
02:03Augustine finds out where the little girl was sleeping, in one of the storage units,
02:08and tries to explain to her that he will not be able to take care of her,
02:11but it seems that she is not able to talk or simply does not want to.
02:15Augustine prepares the little girl for dinner and then she draws him a picture of a flower, Iris,
02:20and he realizes that she is trying to say her name.
02:23Augustine again tries to contact Ether, but is still not able to.
02:27Iris tries to sleep with him in his room, but Augustine is placed in the next room.
02:32At midnight, she returns to Augustine's room and makes herself a small nest in the corner and sleeps on the floor.
02:38Ether also has communication problems.
02:41They were not able to contact any other ship or anyone on Earth.
02:47They return from their expedition to K-23 with the discovery that the planet supports human life.
02:53Iris watches Augustine do his transfusion of blood and lies on a chair next to him
02:57to look up at the roof of the observatory and the stars above them.
03:01Decades earlier, young Augustine works on his research,
03:04when the same woman with fun grumbles at him because he did not answer her calls.
03:08She is not satisfied with his excuses about how to work,
03:11and lies to him about the calls and says that it is not difficult at all.
03:15She tells him that he is too busy with his work and that he is wasting his life
03:19and that he should avoid people who care about him.
03:21In the present, Augustine goes outside to check the antenna, which is the main one for communication,
03:26and in the snow he finds dozens of birds that die.
03:29He recognizes this event and thinks that the bad air has already begun to reach the observatory
03:34much earlier than it should.
03:36He realizes that the antenna they have in the observatory is not strong enough to contact Ether,
03:40but in Lake Hazen it can, that is, in the previous time station.
03:44He tells Iris that they must travel to Lake Hazen not only to avoid the coming bad air,
03:49but also because it is their only hope to contact Ether before it is too late.
03:54Augustine puts on a few layers of strong clothing and does the same for Iris,
03:59giving her glasses and a breathing apparatus for which she is told to never turn it off,
04:03regardless of the reason.
04:05They pack what they need most from the observatory and put it on a jet ski.
04:09They leave the observatory and head for snowy Lake Hazen.
04:13On Ether, the crew spends their time enjoying their favorite holograms
04:18or playing a three-dimensional video game and playing cards with each other.
04:22The sound of alarms is heard, destroying peace and warning the crew that their ship has left the course.
04:28They managed to determine their exact location and route back to Earth using the signal coming from K-23,
04:35but to get back home, this new route will take them through uncharted territory.
04:40Augustine and Iris spend the night in a tent in the snow.
04:43During their trip the next day, they notice the remains of the wreckage of the plane.
04:47When Augustine sees the dead boy in one of the seats, he tells Iris to stay behind him
04:51while he checks the remains of the wreckage.
04:53Inside, he finds most of the waste, but when he starts to go back,
04:57a man on death grabs him by the leg.
04:59The man is badly injured and begs Augustine to save him.
05:02Outside, Iris is overpowering him and she checks the body.
05:07She falls over and leaves to be with Augustine in what was left of the plane, but he pushes her outside.
05:13Augustine shoots the man in the plane because he told him to do so, to end his suffering.
05:18Augustine remembers watching the woman with fun until he left her,
05:22taking their daughter, who he never had the opportunity to meet.
05:26On the ether, Maya makes an ultrasound of Sally's constipated stomach and tells her that she will get a girl.
05:31She informs the rest of the crew and they at the same time try to figure out a name for the girl.
05:36While they are traveling by jet ski, Iris notices the bunker in the distance and they head there.
05:41Augustine checks and decides that this will be a good place to spend the night.
05:45He puts on their gear and leaves the jet ski outside.
05:48Augustine looks at how Iris draws a picture of the woman and he says he recognizes her.
05:52He tells Iris all the beautiful things he remembers about her
05:55and Iris speaks for the first time, asking him if he loved her.
05:59That night, the bunker starts to melt as Tony goes through the melted ice.
06:03Augustine throws Iris out of the bunker and tells her to run while he tries to collect as many of their things as possible.
06:08He runs out of the bunker just in time and tries to run on the jet ski, but he drowns under the ice.
06:16He tries to swim towards the jet ski, but the jet ski sinks too quickly and he almost runs out of air.
06:21He falls out of the ice and warms up with Iris.
06:24They will be forced to continue the rest of the way to Lake Hazen on foot and without food.
06:29Later, Augustine gives Iris the last piece of their food.
06:32He looks worried, but he believes there will be a lot of it when they reach Lake Hazen.
06:37They walk through the snow plow, barely seeing half a meter in front of them.
06:41Through the snow, Augustine looks at the wolves surrounding them and he shoots arrows at them.
06:46In that chaos, he loses Iris and he calls her, but she does not speak.
06:50After some searching, he gives up and lies on the snow.
06:53He looks at the vision of a woman with a toy that stands in front of him, but eventually he realizes that it is Iris.
06:58He takes her in his arms and is grateful that he found her.
07:02The next day, they successfully reach Lake Hazen and at the same time he goes to work to contact Ether.
07:07Sully is able to receive Augustine's signal and responds.
07:11Sully tells them that they were not able to communicate with us and asks him what is happening to Earth.
07:16As he tries to explain, their signal weakens and Sully is not able to understand him.
07:21She loses her signal and the alarm is activated.
07:24Ether is now traveling through an undiscovered area of the route and the ship is being hit by asteroids.
07:30Serious damage has been done to the ship and their communication equipment is completely destroyed.
07:35After assessing the damage that has been done to the ship, he decides that he will build part of their communication system
07:41and that he will go outside to fix the damage.
07:44Maya, Sully and Aide will go for a walk, and this is Maya's first trip out of the ship while she is in space.
07:49Maya is very nervous and returns a few times before they go outside.
07:53When they are outside the ship, everything seems to be fine.
07:56They fix the important things for the communication system and begin to return inside.
08:01Before they manage to return inside, the ship is again hit by asteroids.
08:05After everything has settled down, the crew worries that everything is fine.
08:09Maya is shaken, but she is fine, and as she returns inside, she notices drops of blood flying in her helmet.
08:15Aide and Sully rush back inside the ship and Mitchell heads towards them with first aid.
08:20They take off Maya's helmet at the same time as a large amount of blood drips from her part through the ship.
08:26Maya begins to panic, saying that she has too much blood, and Aide and Mitchell work to heal her wounds,
08:32while Sully tries to keep Maya calm.
08:35Regardless of their strong will, the crew is not able to close the wound that was made by the asteroid hit, and Maya dies.
08:43The crew mourns their loss, but are soon shocked when they look at the Earth.
08:47They are shocked when they see that it looks lifeless and that it is covered with radiation.
08:51Ether contacts Augustine and he explains that they will not be able to land on Earth.
08:56He tells them that he is the only one who survived and that everyone else evacuated from the ship.
09:00He tells them that there are no other active missions and that they are the only ones who survived.
09:04The crew is devastated because they will not be able to return home,
09:07and that their only option to leave the ship is to turn back and head for K-23.
09:12Tom informs them that he is not going back to K-23 and that he has to go find out what happened to his family.
09:18He asks Aide for permission to take one of the capsules to go back to Earth and find his wife and children, and Aide allows him to do so.
09:26While Tom prepares for his journey back to Earth, Mitchell tells him about his aunt who died when she was 4 years old,
09:32and that she would be the same age as Maya.
09:34Mitchell asks if he can go back to Earth with Tom so that he can return Maya's body, and Tom agrees with that.
09:41Mitchell and Tom speak to Sally and Aide and take the capsule and go back to Earth.
09:46Sally arrives to Augustine to tell him what happened to everyone in the crew and that they plan to return to K-23.
09:53Sally tells Augustine that she has always been a big fan of his work and that she is disappointed that he will never meet him.
09:59He asks for his name and she tells him that his real name is Iris.
10:03Augustine asks him to describe K-23 to her and she does so, and he decides not to tell her that he is her father who never met him.
10:10The little girl Iris that Augustine saw was a hallucination the whole time.
10:14Ader enters a communication blackout and he loses his signal.
10:18Aide and Sally are the last people left and they headed back to K-23 to potentially rebuild civilization.
