00:00Two successive strong earthquakes jolted a part of Homalig, Quezon earlier today.
00:06A magnitude 5.3 earthquake was first recorded at 7.16 a.m.
00:11This was followed by another earthquake, a 4.9 magnitude tremor, at the eastern part of Homalig at 7.55 a.m.
00:20For their part, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, or PHIVOLCS, clarified
00:25the 4.9 and 5.3 magnitude tremors are indeed two separate earthquakes that happened just minutes apart.
00:32PHIVOLCS director Teresito Bacolcol explained the second tremor was not an aftershock of the first one
00:39as an aftershock is a degree or a magnitude lower than the actual earthquake.
00:55The tremors are complex. The stress acting on the rocks would produce earthquakes in sequence.
