00:00A city in Pangasinan has been placed under a state of calamity following the onslaught of
00:04severe tropical storm Christine. Meanwhile, price freeze in our primary goods has been
00:10imposed to the area to protect customers and consumers.
00:14Philippine Information Agency's Pangasinans, Genry Del Rosario has the full report.
00:21The city of Dagupan has declared a state of calamity after Typhoon Christine battered the
00:26region flooding 21 barangays and causing significant damage to agriculture.
00:31Mayor Belen Fernandez estimated the agricultural damage to be around 35 million pesos.
00:36The mayor's office confirmed that more than 11,000 livelihoods were affected
00:41including tricycle, jeepneys and tri-bike drivers, fishermen and vendors.
00:46Meanwhile, the city's engineering office has been conducting inspections of damaged houses,
00:52drainage systems, and ongoing Department of Public Works and Highways projects.
00:57The local government is now working to assess the extent of the damage
01:00and provide relief to affected residents.
01:03Vice Mayor Dean Brian Cuba said they are now in the process of repacking the groceries
01:08for distribution to the citizens of Dagupan who were affected by Typhoon Christine.
01:12He said the city government will continue helping while Dagupan is preparing for another typhoon.
01:18Meanwhile, the Department of Trade and Industry has reminded businesses to comply with the
01:23existing price freeze on basic necessities and prime commodities.
01:27DPI Pangasinan Director Natalia Dalatan said consumers can check suggested retail price
01:33of prime commodities on the website of DPI.
01:36If they are doubtful about the prices of the goods they have purchased,
01:40they can call DPI Pangasinan or can go directly to the nearest negotiation center in their area.
