00:00The State of Calamity in Lukban, Quezon has already been declared
00:03because of the huge landslide caused by Hurricane Christine.
00:07This is the story of Carmen Isles of Radyo Pilipinas, Lucena.
00:14We are here at Lukban Elementary School in Quezon.
00:18Behind me is the destroyed covered court of the school
00:22along with the three classrooms
00:24because of the fall of a mahogany tree
00:27because of the strong winds caused by Hurricane Christine.
00:31The school is paying P6 million pesos for this school.
00:35Because of the strong winds caused by Hurricane Christine
00:38and the fallen trees,
00:40116 houses were damaged in different barangays.
00:43When it was around 2.30 p.m. or 3 p.m.,
00:49I felt that her roots were different.
00:52We were not able to have children
00:55because we were living in a slum in our neighborhood.
00:58We were hoping that we could get some wood
01:03because my husband and I are farmers.
01:07The government-owned waterlines were also affected
01:09because until now, the majority of the people of Lukban
01:12do not have water supply.
01:15In agriculture, 198 farmers were affected.
01:18P29 million was allocated to high-value crops.
01:22P50,000 was allocated to organic farming.
01:24P450,000 was allocated to aquaculture.
01:27P2 million was allocated to rice.
01:29P180,000 was allocated to livestock.
01:32Despite being landslide-prone in Lukban,
01:35there is no sign of landslides or floods here
01:37because of the rapid monitoring of local officials.
01:41We always remind the barangay
01:44because we know that even if there is no storm,
01:47Lukban is prone to rain-induced landslides.
01:50Especially if we live in a high-rise area.
01:52We had a rapid response from the barangay
01:58so that if there is an impact,
02:01they can immediately respond.
02:04The local government is still conducting
02:06assessment and relief operations
02:08for those affected by the storm.
02:10Carmi Isles for Radyo Pilipinas
