00:00:05♪♪
00:00:18How we doing today?
00:00:20I'm doing wonderful, thank you.
00:00:22Excellent.
00:00:23And if I may ask,
00:00:24what drew you to the restaurant industry?
00:00:27I'm actually a military wife,
00:00:29and my husband's gone a lot.
00:00:31He actually just deployed recently.
00:00:34But I couldn't stand being home alone anymore,
00:00:37so I decided to get a job.
00:00:39♪♪
00:00:43I think you're a really hard worker.
00:00:46No, really, I mean that.
00:00:47You think I'm fooling you?
00:00:49It takes guts.
00:00:52I love that.
00:00:54How would you describe your management style?
00:00:58I guess I'd say I'm really, really hands-on.
00:01:01I think teamwork is very important,
00:01:03so when people trust each other
00:01:06and they really know how to communicate,
00:01:09then everything just flows a lot smoother, you know?
00:01:14Uh, you know what I think?
00:01:18I think that's exactly what we need here.
00:01:22♪♪
00:01:32♪♪
00:01:42♪♪
00:01:52♪♪
00:02:02♪♪
00:02:12♪♪
00:02:22♪♪
00:02:32Caitlin!
00:02:34♪♪
00:02:44Hey, big head, what are you doing?
00:02:46Are you gonna play in today's game or not?
00:02:48Waiting on you now.
00:02:49You wanna coach this game or not?
00:02:50Oh, we'll see who's waiting on who.
00:02:52♪♪
00:02:55Well, I think we need to fill this.
00:02:57Most of all, it's graduating.
00:02:58No, I mean this pitcher-catcher duo we're here to see.
00:03:01Oh, yeah, right.
00:03:02I mean, they'll speak for themselves.
00:03:04I don't care if it's a small town in southern Indiana,
00:03:07as long as they can play.
00:03:08Yeah, but have we ever had anybody
00:03:09actually come out of Lanesville?
00:03:11No, but it's my last chance to see this
00:03:13courting team this close to home.
00:03:15Eyes peeled for anybody else?
00:03:17Look, I'm only here for the catcher and the pitcher.
00:03:19That puts me on position, players.
00:03:21Yep.
00:03:23Outfield?
00:03:25Have you seen our outfielders?
00:03:27Anyone out here would have to contend
00:03:28with the three we already got.
00:03:30And I don't have time to teach them fundamentals.
00:03:32I mean, they'd have to be the best we've ever seen.
00:03:35Whoa.
00:03:42Coach Garner, how you doing tonight?
00:03:45Coach, this is one of my assistant coaches, Coach Marty.
00:03:48Marty, nice to see you.
00:03:49Good to meet you.
00:03:50Coach, there they are.
00:03:52Primed and ready for you to go tonight.
00:03:56You told them I was coming?
00:03:58Well, yeah.
00:03:59I tell all my players in there
00:04:00that recruiters are going to come out to coach.
00:04:05Okay.
00:04:07We'll be over there out of your way.
00:04:09Just act like we're not here.
00:04:11Okay.
00:04:12Thanks, Coach.
00:04:15You just can't help yourself sometimes, and I can't.
00:04:17Well, you know me.
00:04:18I like to see how they play when they're nervous.
00:04:21Yeah.
00:04:23I'll take a breath.
00:04:26I'm not going to lose.
00:04:29This is what I came here to do.
00:04:34I walk that wire, and I take that step.
00:04:40I take that step.
00:04:43Won't look down, got no regrets.
00:04:49Won't look down, got no regrets.
00:04:54I was made for this.
00:04:56I was made for this.
00:05:00Walked in the fire, built for the battle.
00:05:05I was made for this.
00:05:09So you're still watching that pitcher and catcher, right?
00:05:12That's what I'm here like.
00:05:14Might want to start watching that center fielder.
00:05:17You do remember what I said about position players, right?
00:05:19Yep, and that girl right there,
00:05:22she's the best player on the field.
00:05:25Her?
00:05:27Most fundamentally sound player out there.
00:05:31I was made for this.
00:05:34I was made for this.
00:05:37Walked in the wire, walked in the fire, built for the battle.
00:05:43I was made for this.
00:05:55Hey, bring it in, bring it in, bring it in.
00:05:58Hey, bring it in, bring it in, bring it in.
00:06:00Let's go, in, in.
00:06:06She's mad, she's desperate.
00:06:08She knows that she is one run away from losing the entire season,
00:06:12and you've already fooled her twice.
00:06:14She has no problem beaming people,
00:06:16so what do you think she's going to do?
00:06:18Probably test how protective the helmet is.
00:06:21Exactly right.
00:06:22So you watch out for that, all right?
00:06:24And remember what happened in Noblesville.
00:06:26Yeah, I'll never forget Noblesville.
00:06:57You can't win them all, big head.
00:07:02Hey.
00:07:05What's wrong?
00:07:13You afraid because you got hit by this?
00:07:20Honey, that's part of the game.
00:07:24Everybody's going to get hit sooner or later,
00:07:27especially if they want to keep going in this league.
00:07:31Do you want to keep going?
00:07:34Do you want to go to the next level?
00:07:38Then you've got to be willing to take some hits,
00:07:41and you probably more than most.
00:07:46So look.
00:07:49Come on, I'm going to show you something.
00:07:51Come on.
00:07:54Stand right there.
00:08:06You can't keep playing if you're going to be afraid of the ball.
00:08:10Eric, that's enough.
00:08:24Good.
00:08:27Do it again.
00:08:30Ain't you going to keep being afraid of that thing?
00:08:35Remember, there is no I can't.
00:08:38You can.
00:08:41Say it. Say I can.
00:08:53I can.
00:09:24What is it?
00:09:26Not much right over there in the back of that girl's car, sir.
00:09:31I've got a feeling.
00:09:34No, no.
00:09:36One more game?
00:09:40One more game.
00:09:54Hey, would you two care to join us for dinner?
00:09:58We're kind of in the middle of something, honey.
00:10:00And we'd like to be in the middle of something here.
00:10:03Dinner, as a family.
00:10:05Let's go eat, Dad, but we can come back to this.
00:10:18I'm sorry.
00:10:19It's okay.
00:10:27Would you like to pray for us, dear?
00:10:30Yeah, sure.
00:10:33Absolutely.
00:10:38Picking at a big day yesterday.
00:10:40You all bow your heads.
00:10:45Dear God,
00:10:46thank you so much for the victory on the field yesterday,
00:10:49and for how well Caitlin played,
00:10:51and for keeping all the players safe.
00:10:55We want to thank you so much for,
00:11:00well,
00:11:02for your many blessings and for always being with us.
00:11:05Amen.
00:11:06Amen.
00:11:11We were watching the team that we're going to have to play next week,
00:11:14and they're good.
00:11:16They're real good.
00:11:17So we're probably going to have to start practicing tomorrow.
00:11:21On a Sunday?
00:11:23Well, sure, Selena.
00:11:25It's a game before the championship.
00:11:27Aren't the girls entitled to a day off?
00:11:30Well, sure.
00:11:31I mean, they can celebrate today and rest tonight, right, big guy?
00:11:36Sid and I are doing worship for preschoolers at church tomorrow.
00:11:40Yeah, that's fine.
00:11:41We'll be there early enough for that.
00:11:43Yeah, but we're going to have to be there for both services.
00:11:46Well, that's still fine.
00:11:48I mean, we'll drive separate, and we'll go home after the first service,
00:11:51and Mom will be there to take you all home after the second service.
00:11:56Right? Yeah?
00:11:58Yeah.
00:11:59Sure.
00:12:02Does that work, honey?
00:12:04Sure, that works.
00:12:05Excuse me.
00:12:13What?
00:12:17She's fine.
00:12:19She's going to be fine.
00:12:20Softball's going to be over in a couple of weeks, and all life will go back to normal.
00:12:23Our normal is softball.
00:12:25After school season, travel ball starts up.
00:12:28That's our life.
00:12:29I think Mom just wanted us to come to the table and have a normal family dinner.
00:12:35Yeah.
00:12:37Right.
00:12:38All right.
00:12:42I'll just...
00:12:44I'll go.
00:12:47Yeah.
00:13:01Do you remember when she used to fit into this?
00:13:08I remember when she used to fit right in here.
00:13:17I was so scared when your sister called me,
00:13:21and she told me you went into labor.
00:13:25I wasn't ready for that.
00:13:28I walked up and down the halls of that hospital for hours.
00:13:32And then, the nurse comes out and says,
00:13:35I need to prepare you for something.
00:13:39I didn't know what to think.
00:13:42I guess I just thought the worst.
00:13:48But then,
00:13:50I was actually relieved when I saw her, because
00:13:54there was this little chicken wing flap that way.
00:13:58Little chicken wing flap that way.
00:14:04And do you remember what your mom said to you when she saw Caitlin?
00:14:09Yeah.
00:14:11She said,
00:14:12God don't make no mistakes.
00:14:15That's right.
00:14:16He doesn't.
00:14:19I just want the best for her.
00:14:23And I know that I can go overboard with the sports,
00:14:27but this next game
00:14:30is so very important.
00:14:33I know.
00:14:36So as her coach,
00:14:38as her father,
00:14:40that's my duty.
00:14:44I understand, honey, I do.
00:14:46And you're really good at it.
00:14:49It's just sometimes I wish
00:14:52there was more father
00:14:54and less coach.
00:14:57You wouldn't understand.
00:15:02Dad, you ready to watch the game film?
00:15:06Yeah.
00:15:10I'll be right there.
00:15:12Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:14Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:16Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:18Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:20Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:22Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:24Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:26Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:28Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:30Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:32Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:34Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:36Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:38Out, base, left, purple, and white.
00:15:40All right, everybody, you know why we're here.
00:15:45Our Lady Eagles are one game away from the state championship and we all need to be there
00:15:50to support them.
00:15:51So everybody get in the stands and do our best to cheer them on.
00:15:58And now I'd like to turn this program over to the man who made this season possible,
00:16:07Coach Peyton.
00:16:20Thank you, Principal.
00:16:22I'm not the only one responsible for this season.
00:16:24This pep rally ain't for me.
00:16:26It's for these girls right here.
00:16:29Listen, this team that we got coming up against us, they're good.
00:16:36They beat us last year and they handed us our butts already this year.
00:16:40And they've got a pitcher that has over 1,000 strikeouts.
00:16:44But we're not going to let her get one more.
00:16:53We're going to need your support out there in the stands.
00:16:56Can I count on you to be out there?
00:17:00All right, now that's enough out of me.
00:17:06I'm going to turn it over to the player with the biggest head in the room, Miss Katelyn.
00:17:20I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for your support.
00:17:23We wouldn't be here without you guys coming out to our games and showing your support.
00:17:27We're really going to need you tomorrow because we're moving forward in the tournament.
00:17:30And just come out to the games and show your support.
00:17:35That was great.
00:17:43You did fine.
00:17:44Was my face red the whole time?
00:17:45Not the whole time.
00:17:48It was short and sweet and it's over now.
00:17:51But I am confused.
00:17:52Do you want them to support us?
00:17:56No, I mean, you get so nervous about speaking for a few seconds, but you can play a two-hour game.
00:18:01Well, that I know how to do.
00:18:02Public speaking is not my thing.
00:18:04Well, if we win tomorrow, you'll probably have to do some more speeches.
00:18:09But don't worry.
00:18:10Just get up there and say, support, support, and support.
00:18:13With some support.
00:18:14And support.
00:18:15You guys are the best.
00:18:16But you know what?
00:18:17What's up, KP?
00:18:18I could really use your support.
00:18:21You're done.
00:18:22Uh, coach?
00:18:23Are we going to talk about the new recruits?
00:18:28Uh-uh.
00:18:29Okay, because look, there's this kid down in Brandenburg.
00:18:37I don't care.
00:18:38Excuse me?
00:18:39I think I have found the best player I've seen in a long time.
00:18:45A position player?
00:18:48Caitlin Pavey?
00:18:52Never heard of her.
00:18:54I have a feeling you will.
00:18:56Wait, is that the one-armed girl?
00:18:59You know her?
00:19:00I've heard some things.
00:19:01It's the girl from Lanesville.
00:19:03Lanesville?
00:19:05She's the best thing I've seen in a long time.
00:19:08One-armed?
00:19:11What is that?
00:19:13That's who you want?
00:19:15Yep.
00:19:16Coach, what about the pitcher and the catcher?
00:19:18She pretty much stole the show from them.
00:19:20What?
00:19:21I'm going back to Indiana tomorrow to watch her play for my state.
00:19:25Lanesville?
00:19:27Folks, this is the next CCU star outfielder.
00:19:35Coach, these players are missing.
00:19:39Dude, you in on this?
00:19:42Wait till you see this girl play.
00:19:45What is going on?
00:19:49Lanesville?
00:19:58All right, ladies, on me.
00:20:00Now focus up.
00:20:03You already know everything you need to know about this team.
00:20:08And I want you to forget everything that has ever happened between us and them in the past.
00:20:13And you're not living in the past.
00:20:16We're living in this moment.
00:20:18This is our game.
00:20:20We have to go out there and get it.
00:20:22If you get a good pitch, you hit harder than you ever have before.
00:20:27You make connection, you run harder than you ever have before.
00:20:32You're going to leave it all on the line tonight, ladies.
00:20:36Got anything to add, Dad?
00:20:37No, I haven't.
00:20:39Y'all ready?
00:20:40Yeah!
00:20:42All right, let's get out there and show them who we are.
00:20:44Go!
00:20:45Come on!
00:20:46Woo!
00:21:00Strike three!
00:21:01Yeah!
00:21:03Out of the way, out of the way!
00:21:05We only need one more, girls!
00:21:07One more out!
00:21:12Yeah!
00:21:28That's it, that's it!
00:21:30We only need two more to win this.
00:21:32One more to go, that's it!
00:21:43There's a lot to do.
00:21:58Strike one!
00:22:01Woo!
00:22:11Strike two!
00:22:31Strike three!
00:22:42No.
00:22:49Get up.
00:22:51That doesn't look good.
00:22:53I know.
00:22:55Out of the way.
00:22:59Don't put any pressure.
00:23:13Hi, Caitlin.
00:23:15How you feeling, sweetheart?
00:23:18Well, we've completed all of our MRIs
00:23:22and they show that she has a tear on her ACL,
00:23:25partial tear on her MCL and PCL.
00:23:29And on top of that, sweet one, you've torn up your meniscus.
00:23:32This is a really, really bad injury for a knee.
00:23:36Along with all of that comes a lot of swelling.
00:23:39So until that swelling goes down, sweetie,
00:23:41we cannot put you in surgery.
00:23:43How soon before she can play again?
00:23:46This all takes quite a bit of time.
00:23:48We can't rush it, all right?
00:23:50Now, my best estimate,
00:23:52you're looking at six to nine months
00:23:54before you're completely done.
00:23:57OK.
00:23:59So when can you do the surgery?
00:24:01We've got to wait until the swelling goes down.
00:24:03If we do that, we have a great track record
00:24:06of being very, very successful.
00:24:08Now, I've got... Let me see here.
00:24:11I've got two dates available in about four weeks.
00:24:13Would that be OK?
00:24:15Four weeks? You can't do it any sooner than that?
00:24:18No.
00:24:20What, you've got too much golf to play before then?
00:24:22Eric!
00:24:26We understand, Doctor. Thank you.
00:24:28Can we get on your schedule as soon as possible?
00:24:31Of course I can.
00:24:33Look, I'll make sure that I get you in as soon as possible, OK?
00:24:36Now, sweetie, if we do this with a lot of care
00:24:40and we do it properly,
00:24:42we are going to have you out of here as soon as possible,
00:24:45OK?
00:24:47And if you don't do it sooner than you are now,
00:24:50I'm back on the court.
00:24:52She plays softball.
00:24:55Of course she does.
00:24:59That guy.
00:25:01Listen, I want a second opinion.
00:25:03We can go down to St Mary's right now...
00:25:05Eric!
00:25:07This is the best place for sports medicine,
00:25:09and you know that.
00:25:11We don't need to go anywhere else.
00:25:15Yeah, Mum. I'll be fine.
00:25:31I think that's exactly what we need here.
00:25:45What?
00:25:49Nothing.
00:26:15OK.
00:26:33Right.
00:26:35You want to get some ice?
00:26:37Yeah.
00:26:39Do you need anything else?
00:26:41No, I'm good.
00:26:43We're going to get through this.
00:26:45You are going to get through this.
00:26:47There is no I can't.
00:26:49Thanks, Dad.
00:27:07Good morning.
00:27:09Oh, there's coffee already made.
00:27:11Thanks, honey.
00:27:28Is that a chariot breakfast?
00:27:31Yeah.
00:27:33Don't you think she deserves one?
00:27:35She's past the age where that'll work.
00:27:39And why not?
00:27:41Because you obviously don't understand
00:27:43what she lost last night.
00:27:45OK.
00:27:47There you go again with the
00:27:49I wouldn't understand garbage.
00:27:51You don't think I understand my daughter?
00:27:55I know you two have this special bond.
00:27:57You always have.
00:27:59But I have a special bond with her too, Eric.
00:28:01Every mother has a special bond with their child.
00:28:05OK, OK, OK.
00:28:07I don't have a special bond with her.
00:28:09Really, I'm not saying that.
00:28:11But after last night,
00:28:13we're going to have a lot of ripple effects.
00:28:15And I'm not capable of understanding ripple effects?
00:28:19You don't think I have the life experience
00:28:21to know what ripple effects can do?
00:28:23Like when you make a choice
00:28:25and the effects of that choice
00:28:27reach out to other areas of your life,
00:28:29affecting the people in your life?
00:28:31Do you remember when we first met?
00:28:37Yeah.
00:28:39I was actually thinking about it
00:28:41last night on the way home.
00:28:43I knew you were flirting with me
00:28:45from the moment I sat down.
00:28:47And I knew you didn't need to work
00:28:49all those weekends
00:28:51or all those late nights
00:28:53to close the restaurant down.
00:28:55And I knew you were married.
00:28:57And I knew what I was doing
00:28:59And I knew what I was doing in response.
00:29:03I knew there could be ripple effects.
00:29:07So please, don't tell me
00:29:09that I wouldn't understand.
00:29:15Now, I'm going to go take our daughter
00:29:17her favorite breakfast.
00:29:19And if you can have a positive
00:29:21and uplifting attitude,
00:29:23you can join me.
00:29:29Okay.
00:29:39Katelyn.
00:29:41Good morning, sweetheart.
00:29:43Morning, Mom.
00:29:45How are you feeling?
00:29:47Okay, I guess. I'm stiff. I'm sore.
00:29:49I made you breakfast.
00:29:51And it's your favorite.
00:29:53Thanks, Mom.
00:29:55You didn't have to do that.
00:29:57For my girl?
00:30:01You know, I would do
00:30:03anything to make all of this better
00:30:05for you.
00:30:07But only God can do that, honey.
00:30:09Why didn't he?
00:30:11What?
00:30:13God, why didn't he make me all better?
00:30:15I mean, first,
00:30:17I'm born like this and
00:30:19it's fine. It's whatever.
00:30:21You get over it and you move on.
00:30:23But softball is...
00:30:25I was really
00:30:27good, Mom. You are
00:30:29really good. Mom,
00:30:31look at this.
00:30:33I have to face reality here.
00:30:35A six to nine month recovery
00:30:37and the surgery isn't for another
00:30:39month. There goes my senior
00:30:41year. There were scouts
00:30:43at that game.
00:30:45There will be scouts at the next game, but
00:30:47they won't be seeing me.
00:30:49And even if I get back to
00:30:51100%, I lost
00:30:53my chance at the scholarship.
00:30:55Senior year, gone.
00:30:57College, gone.
00:30:59Why didn't God stop that?
00:31:01I know things seem really
00:31:03bleak right now.
00:31:05But you haven't missed your opportunity
00:31:07to go to college.
00:31:09And you know that.
00:31:11Now you might not
00:31:13believe me, but you aren't the
00:31:15first person to ever ask,
00:31:17why did God allow this to happen?
00:31:19Caitlin, life
00:31:21can be hard sometimes.
00:31:23And bad things can happen for no
00:31:25reason at all.
00:31:27Sometimes they happen because we need
00:31:29to learn something from them.
00:31:31God wants to teach us
00:31:33something new through the struggle.
00:31:35And we could never have learned it unless we
00:31:37walked through it.
00:31:39Honey, as much as
00:31:41I want to make your knee better,
00:31:43and as much as I love
00:31:45you, God loves you
00:31:47so much more. And He knows
00:31:49better than we ever could.
00:31:53Now,
00:31:55I don't know what we're going to learn
00:31:57from this, but I know you.
00:31:59And a six to nine month
00:32:01recovery? For you?
00:32:03I doubt that.
00:32:09Are you going to eat this breakfast?
00:32:11Or am I?
00:32:13I will in a minute. Thanks, Mom.
00:32:15Okay, honey.
00:32:17I love you so much.
00:32:43So you're telling me
00:32:45that the office has crutches,
00:32:47but they don't have a wheelchair on hand?
00:32:49Steve,
00:32:51she's only got one good arm.
00:32:53How is she supposed to handle crutches?
00:32:57Yes,
00:32:59I realize it's at the end of the school
00:33:01year.
00:33:03No, Steve, I'm not mad at you.
00:33:05I'm just surprised that the office doesn't have
00:33:07a wheelchair on hand.
00:33:11Yeah, yeah.
00:33:13I'll make some phone calls too.
00:33:15Surely to goodness we can find her wheelchair
00:33:17in the next twelve hours.
00:33:19Yeah, okay, fine.
00:33:21I'll call you later.
00:33:23Just can't catch a break.
00:33:25Bye, Mom.
00:33:43Bye, honey.
00:33:45Where are you going?
00:33:47Church, remember?
00:33:49The girls are supposed to sing for the kids again.
00:33:51That's right, that's right.
00:33:53You go ahead and go. I'll watch Big Head.
00:33:55Okay, love you.
00:33:57Girls,
00:33:59meet me at the front of the house.
00:34:23Front of the house all closed down?
00:34:25All closed down and all money accounted for.
00:34:27Looks like our job here is done.
00:34:29Another successful night.
00:34:31Thank goodness.
00:34:33How about we go home?
00:34:35Say what?
00:34:37Are you okay?
00:34:39Yeah.
00:34:41I'm super.
00:34:45Hey, I don't know if I've
00:34:47told you this yet, but
00:34:49man, you have really turned
00:34:51this place around.
00:34:53You're not so bad yourself.
00:35:07Hey, what are you doing?
00:35:09I called out a few times,
00:35:11but nobody answered.
00:35:13I just figured everyone went to church.
00:35:15No, I stayed behind
00:35:17in case you needed anything.
00:35:19Are you okay, Dad?
00:35:21Yeah, yeah, I'm fine.
00:35:23I've just been making a few phone calls,
00:35:25trying to find you a wheelchair.
00:35:27Principal Rick says we don't have any
00:35:29until high school.
00:35:31I don't want to be in a wheelchair.
00:35:33It's not that big a deal.
00:35:35I don't blame you, honey,
00:35:37but it's not like you can do crutches.
00:35:41Your Big Head will throw you off balance.
00:35:45You need to be resting that way.
00:35:47You need to be resting that knee
00:35:49so you can get your surgery,
00:35:51so you can get rehab
00:35:53and get back on the field as quickly as possible.
00:35:55Go on.
00:35:57Go rest that knee.
00:35:59Right, Coach.
00:36:01Okay.
00:36:15Hey.
00:36:19Mom, Dad.
00:36:21Y'all joining us for lunch?
00:36:23Not only are we joining you for lunch,
00:36:25I'm making the lunch.
00:36:27My famous spaghetti.
00:36:29Maybe Mimi will finally tell us her secret recipe
00:36:31and we can have it whenever we want.
00:36:35That's not happening anytime soon.
00:36:37Oh, no.
00:36:39Selena already bought the right pasta
00:36:43and she's going to get everything started
00:36:45while I go and see my rehab buddy.
00:36:49Rehab?
00:36:51I thought we were talking surgery.
00:36:53I'm not doing another transplant.
00:36:55Then they're going to expect you to do dialysis.
00:36:57And I'm not doing dialysis again.
00:36:59If the good Lord wants me home,
00:37:01He'll take me.
00:37:03All right, now look.
00:37:05You know your mother.
00:37:07When she's made up her mind on something,
00:37:09there's no changing it.
00:37:11All right?
00:37:13Oh, come on. Let's go get to her room.
00:37:15Okay.
00:37:17All right.
00:37:19Careful.
00:37:23That's a starter kit.
00:37:27Here you go.
00:37:33How you doing, kiddo?
00:37:35I've been better.
00:37:37Haven't we all?
00:37:41Your knee.
00:37:43It's almost as big as your head.
00:37:45Dad says nothing's that big.
00:37:47He's one to talk.
00:37:49Where do you think you get it from?
00:37:51Hey.
00:37:55Now, I know I'm a lot to aspire to.
00:37:59But you didn't have to go and blow your knee out
00:38:01just so we could be rehab buddies.
00:38:03Oh, you're going to be rehabbing with me?
00:38:05Of course.
00:38:07Mysterious ways.
00:38:09They're mysterious, all right.
00:38:11A little bit.
00:38:13Let me tell you something.
00:38:15You want God to be mysterious.
00:38:17I mean, if there was a God
00:38:19that we could figure out,
00:38:21that's just not a God
00:38:23I'd be interested in worshiping.
00:38:25He's got a plan in all of this.
00:38:27He always does.
00:38:29Caitlin,
00:38:31God don't make mistakes.
00:38:35Okay, Mimi.
00:38:37So we're going to be rehab buddies,
00:38:39and you won't give up on me?
00:38:41Right?
00:38:43You got it.
00:38:45Well, we got a deal.
00:38:51You're on Sunday, Coach?
00:38:53Afternoon.
00:38:55I went to the morning service.
00:38:57So, did you offer her the scholarship?
00:38:59Is this our newest player?
00:39:01She got hurt.
00:39:03What happened?
00:39:07Best case scenario,
00:39:09best case scenario,
00:39:11torn ACL.
00:39:13Worst case,
00:39:15she'll never play again.
00:39:17Aw, geez.
00:39:19I really want to coach this girl.
00:39:25Well,
00:39:27let's see how she
00:39:29angles recovery.
00:39:31Okay.
00:39:39I guess we'll see.
00:39:51Hey, big head. I've got you thrown already.
00:39:53Actually, Dad, I just want to be in my room.
00:39:55Well, I mean, I've got it already set up for you later.
00:39:57You can sit right here with us.
00:39:59Okay.
00:40:05No thanks?
00:40:07Eric, you leave her be.
00:40:13Okay, what was that?
00:40:15Honey,
00:40:17she's been through a lot.
00:40:19Well, I know that.
00:40:21It's not like I'm asking her to run three miles.
00:40:23I'm just asking her to sit on the porch with us.
00:40:25She needs her space.
00:40:27Wait.
00:40:29Is this one of those teenage girl hormone things?
00:40:31Gross, Dad.
00:40:35We all mourn and grieve
00:40:37in our own ways.
00:40:39Mourn?
00:40:41What's she mourning?
00:40:43Are you serious?
00:40:45Who raised you?
00:40:47Son, I think sometimes
00:40:49your mouth runs a marathon
00:40:51while your brain's standing still.
00:40:53What does she have to mourn?
00:40:55Golf ball, her leg,
00:40:57the independence she had,
00:40:59being the best at everything.
00:41:01She's got plenty to mourn, believe you me.
00:41:03Well, now,
00:41:05I think it was you that was teaching me
00:41:07not to make a mountain out of a molehill when I was a kid.
00:41:09That's not what Caitlin's doing.
00:41:11You, however,
00:41:13may be making a
00:41:15molehill out of a mountain.
00:41:17What's that supposed to mean?
00:41:19Eric,
00:41:21this is no small thing.
00:41:23As much as you would
00:41:25like it to be one,
00:41:27this is a serious injury.
00:41:29Mom, no one is more resilient
00:41:31than that girl right there.
00:41:33And I know that she's lost
00:41:35stuff. Selena and I have gone
00:41:37round and round about that.
00:41:39I just don't like this attitude that it's all over.
00:41:41She's gonna get better.
00:41:43We all know that.
00:41:45But you know this girl.
00:41:47She needs to do things
00:41:49at her own pace, in her own
00:41:51way. You just gotta give her time.
00:41:53God don't make mistakes.
00:41:57That's something else I grew up hearing.
00:42:03Oh, hey, this is the guy about my wheelchair.
00:42:05I gotta take this. I'll be right back.
00:42:21Uh,
00:42:23Dale said that he was gonna leave the wheelchair
00:42:25in the central office, so I'll be right back.
00:42:33Are you alright?
00:42:35Sure, Dad. I'm fine.
00:42:39That doesn't sound real confident.
00:42:43Maybe I'm not feeling very confident right now.
00:42:47About what?
00:42:49About everything.
00:42:51How am I supposed to wheel a wheelchair
00:42:53around this school with one hand?
00:42:55How am I supposed to get my books out of my locker?
00:42:57People already look at me differently.
00:42:59Now I'm the kid in the wheelchair
00:43:01who leaves class five minutes early.
00:43:03I never wanted to be treated
00:43:05differently, and now I have to be.
00:43:11We all need help.
00:43:13Sometimes, Big Head.
00:43:15Even the best of us.
00:43:17Even the strongest of us.
00:43:21It doesn't hurt to need help.
00:43:25Look,
00:43:27school's gonna be over in a few weeks anyway, right?
00:43:31You can make it through this.
00:43:35Let me hear you say it.
00:43:37I can.
00:43:41That didn't sound too convincing.
00:43:43Take what you can get, Dad.
00:43:47Okay.
00:43:57It's not that bad, right?
00:43:59The season's over,
00:44:01we get to leave every class early
00:44:03for the rest of the year,
00:44:05you'll have your surgery,
00:44:07and you'll be back on the field
00:44:09before next season even starts.
00:44:11Right, KP?
00:44:13It all sounds good, yeah.
00:44:15Great. Let's just enjoy it.
00:44:17I don't really like most of my classes anyway.
00:44:21Don't forget to turn in your financial report
00:44:23before the end of the week, or it goes down as a zero.
00:44:27Dylan, detention, as usual.
00:44:29All right.
00:44:33Hey, Danny.
00:44:35Where'd you get all those bracelets?
00:44:37Um, I didn't make my own.
00:44:39You made them yourself?
00:44:41Yes, sir.
00:44:43Can you show me how you did that?
00:44:45Sure.
00:44:47Let's set up a time sometime to do that, okay?
00:44:49Okay.
00:44:51Thank you. Appreciate it, Danny.
00:45:01The Crucible.
00:45:03The Great Gatsby. Hamlet.
00:45:05Death of a Salesman.
00:45:07What do they all have in common?
00:45:09Hand up.
00:45:11Everyone dies in the end?
00:45:13Well, not everyone. Who can help Hannah out?
00:45:17Yes.
00:45:19All the main characters die?
00:45:21Yes. These are all tragedies.
00:45:23The main characters die. Why?
00:45:27Uh, it's the consequences for their choices.
00:45:29Exactly.
00:45:31All throughout these stories,
00:45:33we read of people who lie, steal,
00:45:35cheat, and all their stories
00:45:37end in death.
00:45:39What are we supposed to take away from that?
00:45:41What are the authors trying to say about life?
00:45:45You know, all of these writers, some of whom lived hundreds of years apart,
00:45:47are all trying to tell us something.
00:45:49What do you think it is?
00:45:51KP.
00:45:53That life is meaningless?
00:45:55Now where would you get an idea like that?
00:45:57Okay, okay.
00:45:59Maybe I was a little obvious with the board.
00:46:01But think about it.
00:46:03All of these characters die.
00:46:05And for what?
00:46:07Gatsby's money didn't save him from a vengeful husband.
00:46:09All of John Proctor's
00:46:11pleading and repentance didn't save him from the noose.
00:46:13Probably the worst offender
00:46:15of all, Willy Loman.
00:46:17How does Death of a Salesman use this idea?
00:46:19Check, KP.
00:46:21He sees it in his son, Biff.
00:46:23Okay, go on.
00:46:25Well, Biff doesn't
00:46:27think he's meant for anything great.
00:46:29And Willy finally agrees with him.
00:46:31He gives up on his dreams
00:46:33and sees that
00:46:35maybe he isn't meant for anything
00:46:37great either.
00:46:39That's exactly right.
00:46:41Biff finally convinces Willy.
00:46:43Which leads to that most tragic decision.
00:47:05Hey, big head.
00:47:29You came through surgery just fine.
00:47:31Did have a minor complication, though.
00:47:35They couldn't do anything
00:47:37about the size of your head.
00:47:41Now, your knee's gonna make a full recovery,
00:47:43but...
00:47:47Hey, you did great.
00:47:49How do you feel?
00:47:51Tired.
00:47:53David, get me on over there, honey.
00:47:55Hold on, Mimi's got something to say.
00:47:57No surprise there.
00:47:59Now, you promised you were gonna be my rehab buddy.
00:48:01We're gonna get started
00:48:03as soon as possible.
00:48:05Whatever you say, Mimi.
00:48:07Oh, honey.
00:48:09All right.
00:48:11Well,
00:48:13let's let the poor girl rest.
00:48:15You're the one kissing her.
00:48:17Oh, kiss on her. I'll kiss on you.
00:48:19That'd be a nice change.
00:48:21Oh, don't you wish.
00:48:23Oh, yes.
00:48:25Oh, don't you wish.
00:48:27I'll be careful.
00:48:31Got it.
00:48:33I got it, Mimi.
00:48:35Wonderful news.
00:48:37I'm so proud of you.
00:48:55I love you.
00:48:57I love you.
00:48:59I love you.
00:49:01I love you.
00:49:03I love you.
00:49:05I love you.
00:49:07I love you.
00:49:09I love you.
00:49:11I love you.
00:49:13I love you.
00:49:15I love you.
00:49:17I love you.
00:49:19I love you.
00:49:21I love you.
00:49:23I love you.
00:49:25I love you.
00:49:27I love you.
00:49:29I love you.
00:49:31I love you.
00:49:33I love you.
00:49:35I love you.

00:49:47I love you.
00:49:49I love you.
00:49:51I love you.
00:49:57So,
00:49:59what's it really like training with Mimi?
00:50:01It's fine I guess.
00:50:03Really?
00:50:05How could it be weird?
00:50:07Yeah, I've worked out with you before
00:50:09and there's no way Mimi's keeping up.
00:50:11Papa helps her around
00:50:13and she does what she can.
00:50:15Besides, you worked out with me
00:50:17before I wrecked my knee.
00:50:19You know you're going to get a lecture from Dad about that?
00:50:22I don't care.
00:50:24I would do anything to void the hole.
00:50:26There is no such thing as I can't.
00:50:29There's no reason to push through.
00:50:31What's waiting on the other side of all this for me?
00:50:33What do you mean?
00:50:35You've got your senior year coming up.
00:50:36This is like the most important year for you.
00:50:40Even if I get back to 80%, the way
00:50:42I am, that's not good enough to compete
00:50:44with people who have both arms.
00:50:46I had to be at 120 just to make the team.
00:50:48You know Dad is not going to cut you from the team.
00:50:51I know, but that's not the point.
00:50:53What is the point?
00:50:54I'm not sure there is one.
00:50:56I have to face facts.
00:50:58I played softball for a while.
00:51:00It was fun.
00:51:02I was good.
00:51:03But maybe this is it.
00:51:05Maybe softball wasn't God's plan for me,
00:51:09and this is my wake-up call.
00:51:11Please don't tell Mom and Dad about this, OK?
00:51:15Of course.
00:51:18Please, can you hear me?
00:51:20I'm screaming.

00:55:38You carry so much burden on your shoulders,
00:55:42so much weight that you clearly can't handle.
00:55:50But you never ask for help.
00:56:02I'm gonna tell you something, though.
00:56:06If you needed help,
00:56:09this right here would be the place that you would ask.
00:56:15These problems he puts in front of you,
00:56:20he doesn't do it to make your life harder.
00:56:22No, he does it because he wants you
00:56:25to pick up those problems and bring them to him.
00:56:32So that he could help you through.
00:56:37Yes, sir.
00:56:41I'm gonna go say goodbye to Mom.
00:56:43Thank you, Dad.
00:57:01Good night, Mom.
00:57:05I'm going to bed.
00:57:08I love you, Dad.
00:57:11Good night.
00:57:12I love you, Mom.
00:57:15I love you, Dad.

00:57:58♪♪
00:58:06Hey, little bit.
00:58:09Hey, come on.
00:58:11I was thinking we'd go run some bases or hit some balls.
00:58:15No thanks, Papa.
00:58:17No thanks?
00:58:19I'm not really feeling it right now.
00:58:22♪♪
00:58:26You're really used to winning, aren't you?
00:58:30That's all right, honey.
00:58:32You earned each and every one of those.
00:58:36It's okay.
00:58:41I want to tell you something.
00:58:45You have an incredible gift from God.
00:58:52Do you know who the first person was who noticed?
00:58:55Not your dad.
00:58:57Not me.
00:59:00It was Mimi.
00:59:03She saw it before any of us.
00:59:06And she told me about it time and again.
00:59:13The other day, I was going through her things
00:59:16because that's what you have to do.
00:59:21And I found a box that I had never seen before.
00:59:25And in that box, there were three letters.
00:59:31There's one for your sister,
00:59:34one for your other sister,
00:59:38and there's one for you.
00:59:41Read it.
00:59:45And then, if you need me, honey,
00:59:49I'll be downstairs.
00:59:52Okay?
00:59:54Come on.
00:59:57♪♪
01:00:06♪♪
01:00:21Let's go, Papa.
01:00:22We're losing daylight.
01:00:26And she's back.
01:00:28Ugh!
01:00:32Carry on.
01:00:36Yes.
01:00:37Thank you so much for your condolences.
01:00:41Yes, she was a remarkable woman.
01:00:47And thank you so much for calling.
01:00:50Okay.
01:00:52Bye.
01:00:54I don't think I can take one more of these.
01:00:58I can take over for you if you'd like.
01:01:02I don't know. Thanks. Maybe.
01:01:06I'll take one more.
01:01:12Hello?
01:01:14Mr. Pavey?
01:01:15Yes.
01:01:16It's Cory Gardner, head coach at CCU.
01:01:19How are you doing?
01:01:21Well, to be honest,
01:01:23we just had a funeral for my mother a few days ago.
01:01:27Well, I'm sorry to hear that, sir.
01:01:31Let me call you some other time.
01:01:33You know what? No.
01:01:35I think...
01:01:37I think we could use this distraction right now.
01:01:41How can I help you?
01:01:43You know that the game... had her injury.
01:01:46In fact, I was at the game before that
01:01:48to watch some other players for the opposing team,
01:01:50but Caitlin was so good, I don't even remember their names.
01:01:54I've been kicking myself ever since
01:01:56because when I got back to my office,
01:01:58I should have sent Caitlin a letter.
01:02:00I'd love to set up a meeting with you guys
01:02:02to come down and see you.
01:02:04I understand, given your mother's passing,
01:02:06that this could be something that could definitely weigh...
01:02:09You know what? No.
01:02:11I think this is exactly what this family needs right now.
01:02:14All right, little bit. Now look.
01:02:17The only thing we gotta concentrate on
01:02:19is one thing today, okay?
01:02:21Ready for anything, Papa.
01:02:23All right, honey, I just need you to run to first base.
01:02:27No problem.
01:02:29Okay, here we go.
01:02:31Go!
01:02:37Hey, that's all right.
01:02:39That's all right, honey.
01:02:41There you go. We got you.
01:02:43Don't worry about it.
01:02:45Yeah. Sorry.
01:02:47Let me get it again.
01:02:49No hurry.
01:02:51We're gonna get it, all right?
01:02:53Oh, wait. Hold on a minute.
01:02:55Hold on.
01:02:57It's your dad. Yeah.
01:03:00What's that?
01:03:04Well, she was doing great on the field,
01:03:07but we got here as quickly as we could.
01:03:09Thanks, Dad. I appreciate that.
01:03:11What's going on?
01:03:13What's going on?
01:03:15We need to talk about your goals, honey.
01:03:17What about them?
01:03:19Well, first of all, they don't belong in the trash
01:03:21or on the floor, young lady.
01:03:23And second of all,
01:03:25they're not exactly up to date.
01:03:29That bottom one.
01:03:31Get scholarship to go to college?
01:03:33You can scratch that off.
01:03:35I scratch them off when I accomplish them, Dad.
01:03:37Oh, I know.
01:03:39What are you talking about?
01:03:41Last few days, I've been getting
01:03:43a ridiculous amount of phone calls about Mimi.
01:03:45And as much as I appreciate
01:03:47all the condolences,
01:03:49they're really wearing us out.
01:03:51But I got one phone call today
01:03:53that I just absolutely love.
01:03:55And it was about you.
01:03:57About me?
01:03:59Yeah. Coach Garner
01:04:01from Cincinnati Christian University
01:04:03called and wants to interview you.
01:04:05Really?
01:04:07Yes. He was at your last two games.
01:04:09He saw how you were playing
01:04:11and he wishes he could offer you to do the scholarship
01:04:13right there on the spot.
01:04:15Seriously?
01:04:17Seriously. He's going to be at the house next week
01:04:19to interview you.
01:04:21No way.
01:04:23Oh, here comes trouble.
01:04:25What are you all doing?
01:04:27Um, don't be mad, but we kind of did something.
01:04:29Okay, what did you do, girls?
01:04:31Let us show you.
01:04:33It's going to be on here?
01:04:35Check out this
01:04:37incredible video that has gone viral.
01:04:39And it is softball superstar
01:04:4117-year-old Kaitlyn Pavey.
01:04:43She's from Lanesville, Indiana.
01:04:45And she's been known for what she's done
01:04:47on the softball field, but now she's known
01:04:49all over the internet. We're excited
01:04:51to have her and her family in soon to interview them.
01:04:53You put this on YouTube?
01:04:55Yeah, and it's absolutely
01:04:57blowing up. I mean,
01:04:59look at how many views you have.
01:05:01Why'd you do this? It was Mimi's idea.
01:05:03Really?
01:05:05Yeah, I mean, she said that it might help you out
01:05:07if you could see the way other people see you.
01:05:09And how awesome you are, Kaitlyn.
01:05:11Well, where else
01:05:13did you post these?
01:05:15Like, everywhere.
01:05:17Did you know about this?
01:05:19No, I had no idea.
01:05:21But you know what? This is perfect timing
01:05:23because we're going to be on the news.
01:05:25Look,
01:05:27I ordered these about a month ago
01:05:29and they just now came in.
01:05:31You all know how much I'm always saying
01:05:33there is no such thing as I can't.
01:05:35No, never heard that one before. Sid?
01:05:37Not me. Watch it.
01:05:39Well,
01:05:41I got these custom made for us
01:05:43so that the next time that we
01:05:45feel like we're not doing all that
01:05:47great or something's not going well,
01:05:49we can look down at our wrist and
01:05:51know that
01:05:53I can. Thanks, Dad.
01:05:55How many of these did you order?
01:05:57Well, it was cheaper
01:05:59to buy them by the bulk, so
01:06:01$3,000.
01:06:03Oh my gosh.
01:06:05I think it would be great for the newscast.
01:06:07Everybody there could wear one.
01:06:09Coming up after the break, we've got something really exciting for you.
01:06:11We have 17-year-old Kaitlyn
01:06:13tell us what's it like being a limb
01:06:15different athlete.
01:06:17We've got Kaitlyn
01:06:19You know you've seen the video.
01:06:21Today's special guest, Kaitlyn.
01:06:23Kaitlyn's super excited about this
01:06:25one-armed softball player.
01:06:27With us today
01:06:29is Kaitlyn Pavey and her family
01:06:31all the way from Southern Indiana.
01:06:41Coach Garner, it's great to meet you.
01:06:43Come on in, come on in. You too.
01:06:45How was your drive?
01:06:47Well, you know, travel.
01:06:49It's part of the job. Kind of get used to it.
01:06:51Actually, you know what?
01:06:53Sort of enjoy it.
01:06:55Coach, this is my daughter Kaitlyn.
01:06:57Kaitlyn, Coach Garner.
01:06:59Pleasure to meet you, Kaitlyn.
01:07:01You too, Coach.
01:07:03Have a seat, sir.
01:07:05So, Kaitlyn,
01:07:07I see that you have recently become
01:07:09a viral video star.
01:07:11Yeah.
01:07:13That was your sister's doing?
01:07:15They ended up
01:07:17posting a video on the internet with her
01:07:19and local television station
01:07:21picked it up.
01:07:23It exploded overnight.
01:07:25We've done nothing but telephone calls and interviews ever since.
01:07:27Well, look, I can tell
01:07:29that your sisters care about you
01:07:31and your success.
01:07:33I've been able to keep up with your
01:07:35recovery because they've sent
01:07:37videos for months.
01:07:39I don't think
01:07:41that they've sent it to anybody else
01:07:43because they really want me to give you a shot.
01:07:45Now, I know
01:07:47you may have other schools
01:07:49and coaches knocking
01:07:51your door down because of the
01:07:53videos they've seen and interviews
01:07:55you've done, but I want to assure
01:07:57you that is not why
01:07:59I'm here.
01:08:01You're not a novelty to me.
01:08:03You have
01:08:05real talent
01:08:07and I want you on my team
01:08:09because of what you can do on the field.
01:08:11Thanks, Coach.
01:08:15Okay, well, before I
01:08:17say too much,
01:08:19is there anything that I can answer for you?
01:08:21Um,
01:08:23well,
01:08:25how would you handle coaching
01:08:27me? Well, to be honest
01:08:29with you, I don't have
01:08:31any plan on
01:08:33treating you any different than anybody else.
01:08:35Every player on the team gets
01:08:37the same opportunities. I don't care if you have
01:08:39one arm, one leg,
01:08:41six eyes.
01:08:43As long as you can play,
01:08:45you can play.
01:08:47And I've been watching tape on you for a long
01:08:49time.
01:08:51And you can play.
01:08:53Thanks.
01:08:55I want to set up an on-site
01:08:57visit for you at the campus
01:08:59this fall if you're interested.
01:09:01Yeah, definitely.
01:09:03Alright, well, let's set it up.
01:09:05Coach, being as
01:09:07Katelyn's had a whole lot
01:09:09of media
01:09:11on this whole situation,
01:09:13she's been asked to speak at a
01:09:15limb difference conference tomorrow.
01:09:17Would you care to come by and hear her?
01:09:19I would love to.
01:09:21Thank you, I appreciate that.
01:09:42You invited him to the limb different
01:09:44camp?
01:09:46Yeah, so?
01:09:48I don't know, it just
01:09:50seems a little odd to me.
01:09:52Nah, coaches love to
01:09:54spend time with their players on and off the field
01:09:56to get to know them. And with Katelyn being
01:09:58the keynote speaker, I thought it
01:10:00might help her chances.
01:10:02Well, it's obvious he
01:10:04wants her to play for him.
01:10:06Yeah, but every little bit
01:10:08counts. I mean, we can't afford any
01:10:10more build-ups just to be disappointed again.
01:10:12We?
01:10:14Well, yeah.
01:10:16You, me, Katelyn, the whole family.
01:10:18We can't go through any
01:10:20more punishments.
01:10:22Punishment?
01:10:24I...
01:10:26I didn't mean
01:10:28to say it like that.
01:10:30That's not what I meant to say.
01:10:32Now that, I believe.
01:10:34I believe you haven't meant to say that
01:10:36for a long time.
01:10:38Okay, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say it like that.
01:10:40It's just a personal thing with me.
01:10:42I mean, you really wouldn't understand.
01:10:44Understand?
01:10:46You're not going to do this.
01:10:48You're not going to do this, prepare for the worst thing.
01:10:50Things are finally
01:10:52starting to turn around for us.
01:10:54This attitude that something bad
01:10:56is always lurking around the next corner
01:10:58has to stop, Eric.
01:11:00You say I wouldn't understand,
01:11:02but why don't you give me a chance?
01:11:06I'm just going to say it.
01:11:08We didn't start our relationship out
01:11:10in the traditional sense.
01:11:12Let's call it what it was, an affair.
01:11:14And I got pregnant,
01:11:16and lo and behold,
01:11:18our daughter,
01:11:20our kind, smart,
01:11:22talented, beautiful daughter
01:11:24comes into this world with a missing arm
01:11:26and it must be a punishment, right?
01:11:28Am I right
01:11:30so far, Eric?
01:11:32And this entire time,
01:11:34you thought you were the only
01:11:36one considering her difference
01:11:38as a punishment?
01:11:40It took the both of us to do that.
01:11:42You don't think
01:11:44when I saw our baby girl that day,
01:11:46I didn't feel even the tiniest bit guilty
01:11:48if even for a flash of a second?
01:11:50But you know what?
01:11:52I got over it, and I got over myself.
01:11:54Kaitlyn's arm is not about me,
01:11:56and it's not about you,
01:11:58and it's not about what we did.
01:12:00Kaitlyn is the way
01:12:02she is because that's how God
01:12:04made her, period.
01:12:06Absolutely.
01:12:08God definitely
01:12:10made her that way.
01:12:12And Kaitlyn is
01:12:14ridiculously amazing.
01:12:18She always has been,
01:12:20and now she will continue to be.
01:12:22But that does not negate the fact that we did not
01:12:24bring her into this world at 100%
01:12:26the right way.
01:12:28Now, she's risen above that.
01:12:30We know that.
01:12:32And heck, now the whole world
01:12:34knows that.
01:12:36You still don't get it.
01:12:38Yes or no?
01:12:40Do you think God is
01:12:42punishing you for what we did
01:12:44through our daughter's arm?
01:12:48I am sorry
01:12:50you feel that way,
01:12:52and I'm sorry you've been feeling that way
01:12:54for 17 years, but that is
01:12:56not who God is.
01:12:58He isn't
01:13:00vindictive.
01:13:06Now, I know you lost your mom last week,
01:13:08and I am not trying to come down
01:13:10on you. Eric,
01:13:12you can't keep
01:13:14living your life like God is
01:13:16punishing you.
01:13:18You can't keep living your life
01:13:20waiting for the next bad thing to
01:13:22happen. Kaitlyn
01:13:24just got offered a full-ride scholarship
01:13:26to play the sport she loves, and
01:13:28you think God's punishing you.
01:13:30I wish you
01:13:32would look around and see how
01:13:34much He's blessed you.
01:13:54So when did you become so tough?
01:13:56Are you kidding?
01:13:58Who I'm married to?
01:14:26I love you.
01:14:56Hey,
01:14:58kiddo.
01:15:03Wanna go for a ride?
01:15:08What's going on?
01:15:10I was taking a walk this
01:15:12evening, and I realized that my
01:15:14perspective has been off, and
01:15:16for a lot of years.
01:15:18You are an incredible ball player,
01:15:20but what's more
01:15:22is you're an incredible young lady,
01:15:24and you can do anything you want.
01:15:26It doesn't matter what I want,
01:15:28and don't let what I want affect
01:15:30your decision.
01:15:32What do you want to do?
01:15:34I want to get back out on the field.
01:15:36I want to play my senior year, and
01:15:38I want to go to CCU.
01:15:40All right, then. If that's what you
01:15:42really want, then I'm gonna need
01:15:44to see you run to first base.
01:15:47Papaw said that's the one thing
01:15:49you haven't conquered yet.
01:15:51You've been hitting, and you've been fielding.
01:15:53But if you don't run to first
01:15:55base, you're not gonna make any
01:15:57team. I don't care how good you are.
01:16:08This is ball 101.
01:16:10You run through that base.
01:16:12This is Little League stuff.
01:16:15Show me you can do this.
01:16:20Nope. Run it out.
01:16:22Don't you slow up on that run.
01:16:24Do it again.
01:16:28If you really want this,
01:16:30I need to see you run
01:16:32through that base.
01:16:34You run through it like it's not even there.
01:16:37You can do this.
01:16:39Let me hear you say it.
01:16:42I can.
01:16:52Fire!
01:17:01Are you nervous?
01:17:03Not at all.
01:17:05Okay. Let's go get them.
01:17:11First time?
01:17:13Yeah.
01:17:15Kids are always nervous at first,
01:17:17but they make friends pretty quickly.
01:17:19Especially here. They're always used
01:17:21out, but now we're the odd ones.
01:17:23Yeah. Yeah, we are.
01:17:26Joshua.
01:17:27Oh, Eric. Eric Pavey.
01:17:29Nice to meet you, Eric. Good to meet you.
01:17:31So which one's yours?
01:17:33She's about to come out on stage.
01:17:35Oh, yeah. Wow.
01:17:37I guess she would be a little more nervous than the rest
01:17:39of us.
01:17:41Hey, honey.
01:17:44So which one's yours?
01:17:46See the good-looking kid up there
01:17:48in the prosthetics?
01:17:50Yeah, it's Elijah.
01:17:54There's such a blessing.
01:17:56My wife and I, we struggled for years
01:17:58to conceive, but
01:18:00finally, God gave us Elijah.
01:18:04I don't know.
01:18:06Sometimes blessing doesn't seem to be a big enough word,
01:18:08you know?
01:18:11Yeah.
01:18:14Yeah, I think I do.
01:18:21Honey,
01:18:23you did so good tonight.
01:18:25I'm so proud of you.
01:18:27Both are proud of you.
01:18:29Pavey. Well, hey, Coach.
01:18:31Hey, young lady.
01:18:33What's a good speech in there?
01:18:35Being good at public speaking
01:18:37is a rare talent.
01:18:39To be honest, I thought I would hate it, but
01:18:41when I got up there, it wasn't too bad. I actually
01:18:43enjoyed it.
01:18:45Look, Coach, I haven't
01:18:47exactly told my family this yet,
01:18:49and I know I haven't come to
01:18:51campus for a visit yet, but
01:18:53I would love to come play ball for you at CCU.
01:18:55Well, I am delighted
01:18:57to hear that.
01:18:59You're going to officially need this then.
01:19:03Welcome to CCU.
01:19:05Thank you, Coach. Thank you.
01:19:10Life can be funny sometimes.
01:19:12You get hit or knocked down.
01:19:14Sometimes you feel like you just need a hand.
01:19:17We know that
01:19:19better than others, but when
01:19:21I look around this room, I don't see sad
01:19:23faces. I don't see people
01:19:25feeling sorry for themselves.
01:19:27I see people who keep on going.
01:19:29You don't give up when life
01:19:31gets hard. You keep pushing.
01:19:33That's what I had to learn through my injury.
01:19:37And even though
01:19:39things seem really dark,
01:19:41like you're being punished for past
01:19:43mistakes, and you
01:19:45find yourself in a really
01:19:47bad spot, if
01:19:49you fully surrender to God
01:19:51and cling to the ones you love,
01:19:53just know that
01:19:55God can take a bad situation
01:19:57and turn it around for His good.
01:19:59His light
01:20:01will always shine the brightest
01:20:03in the darkest night.
01:20:05What I thought was my
01:20:07biggest punishment was actually
01:20:09my biggest blessing.
01:20:11When I see my daughter's arm,
01:20:13I no longer see punishment and shame.
01:20:15I know
01:20:17God made Caitlin perfect.
01:20:19Perfect for His purposes,
01:20:21for His glory,
01:20:23and for our good. No matter
01:20:25what challenges come our way, I
01:20:27know by faith I can.
01:20:29I can trust in
01:20:31God. We can all trust
01:20:33His goodness, His
01:20:35forgiveness, and
01:20:37His great
01:20:39love.
01:21:13I can
01:21:15I can
01:21:17I can
01:21:19I can
01:21:21I can
01:21:23I can
01:21:25I can
01:21:27I can
01:21:29I can
01:21:31I can
01:21:33I can
01:21:35I can
01:21:37I can
01:21:39I can
01:21:41I can
01:21:43I can
01:21:45I can
01:21:47I can
01:21:49I can
01:21:51I can
01:21:53I can
01:21:55I can
01:21:57I can
01:21:59I can
01:22:01I can
01:22:03I can
01:22:05I can
01:22:07I can
01:22:09You say
01:22:11I can
01:22:13Giving me
01:22:15the strength and wisdom
01:22:17forever we plan
01:22:19There is
01:22:21nothing in this world I can't do
01:22:23I can
01:22:25I can
01:22:27I can
01:22:29And I will
01:22:35I can
01:22:37I can
01:22:39It doesn't matter who tries
01:22:41to stop me, I can
01:22:43I can
01:22:45I know you're more than everything
01:22:47against me, I can
