00:00We talked about Colorado.
00:04The other game that I guess you could say is of marquee value tonight.
00:09It is the national TV game.
00:10I believe it's on Fox at eight o'clock East and that is with Mack Brown in North Carolina
00:15against PJ Fleck in Minnesota.
00:18And it's never good, Joe, when you highlight the coaches as the reason why you're going
00:24to get involved in the game, because honestly, the teams, you know, they're just not that
00:28great, Joe, to be quite honest with you.
00:31Minus two now, North Carolina, a road favorite here up at Minnesota where PJ Fleck always
00:36rose the boat.
00:37We got to be 51 and a half total as that's gone up a touch since this morning.
00:45Interesting Joe, because of course it is a big 10 against ACC.
00:51And we do like when teams do that instead of playing, you know, Howard or Central Connecticut
00:56State and all these others.
00:58We do like when teams actually do this.
01:01Yeah, it's a they played last year, right?
01:05I think only they played in week three last year between these two teams.
01:10And interesting enough, even last year with under center for North Carolina was, you know,
01:17a first round pick and all the backup for the New England Patriots and Drake May.
01:23And both teams still only scored, I think, 44 total points in that game.
01:28And just for some reason, the total keeps getting bet up here and I'm not quite sure
01:33why here, because the argument could be made that Max Johnson, the transfer, who's got
01:39to be what, 38 years old under center for North Carolina, taking on, oh yes.
01:46And now you have, of course, the, I mean, one of the best transfers, a kid out of New
01:50Hampshire.
01:51Oh yeah, New Hampshire.
01:53Reason tells me there's not going to be a ton of offense in this game.
01:59So I do like the under, but ultimately I do think, uh, North Carolina, there are injuries
02:06up and down for Minnesota on the offensive line, as well as their stud running back and
02:13stud wide receiver, uh, don't look like they're going to be able to go here tonight.
02:18This was Minnesota over the summer, a slight favorite, one and a half, two point favorite.
02:23It has since gone the other way.
02:25I agree with it.
02:26I do think North Carolina has got much more experience.
02:30Gene Chizik out as the defensive coordinator for North Carolina, uh, but they've got some
02:35nice pieces returning and a ton of weapons on offense for Johnson.
02:40I just think North Carolina, uh, is going to be too much in this game, but I still don't
02:44understand how we're going to get 52 points in this game.
02:48I don't understand why it's being steamed to the over.
02:51Yeah.
02:52Uh, you've got a team in Minnesota that does, that can play some D Joe.
02:56I mean, that's one thing that they could do, especially over the last, their offense abysmal,
03:01uh, but they can play some D uh, and you're right.
03:04I'm sick of these guys, Joe, these 25, 26 year old core, these guys that have been in
03:09college now for seven years, eight years, nine, enough already, Joe.
03:15I mean, I, I get it.
03:17They gave the kids the year for the COVID.
03:19Now you get all these special exemptions, you get all enough, uh, with, uh, you shouldn't
03:25be able to be on four teams in college football.
03:27You just shouldn't be able to go and play for four schools.
03:30It's just eventually it's got to end.
03:33Uh, I'm with you, Joe.
03:34I like the under tonight, uh, in that game and I, I leaned to Minnesota, but you're probably
03:39right.
03:40There's just a little bit more offensive talent on the North Carolina side.
03:43I'm going to stay away from the side, Joe, and I'm going to roll with you, uh, on that
03:47under tonight.
03:48Uh, there just get a nice 16, 10 game, uh, to start the season up in Minnesota, uh, between
03:53those two.
03:54All right, here's a few more for tonight.
03:56Some of the ranked teams, uh, and others that are going to be in action, NC state starts
04:01things off with Western Carolina tonight.
04:03These are some heavy lumber games, Joe, 32 and a half Missouri, 48 and a half against
04:10Murray, Kansas 49 and a half against Linwood, UCF, uh, lay in a 39 and a half against New
04:18Hampshire, big numbers for these ranked teams that are opening these Thursday nights at
04:23home.
04:24Yeah.
04:25And you got it.
04:26It's interesting too, because coming out of week zero, right.
04:29And which, uh, we saw Hawaii almost lay 40, uh, we saw SMU land and none of them covered.
04:37Uh, as a matter of fact, they almost lost out right there, except for Hawaii.
04:41So I'm wondering how many, how many people are running to the window, laying it versus,
04:48uh, taking it because I got to believe some of the public is probably looking at a week
04:53zero and going, Oh, I had no, I'm going to take as many points as we want with some of
04:58these teams.
04:59But I'd be cautious with that, uh, on some of these teams like Linwood, for instance,
05:04against Kansas.
05:05Let me give you some more.
05:06Joe in the, uh, in the big number area for tonight, uh, very rare that you see Rutgers
05:13laying almost 40 points.
05:15Uh, but that is the case.
05:16And that's actually the first year.
05:17I was, Oh, just a little over an hour away, six o'clock East as they take on Howard in
05:22Piscataway, Utah, laying the 39 and a half against Southern Utah.
05:27We have Illinois against Eastern Illinois.
05:30Good way for big Brett, uh, to get things cooking and champagne and San Jose state only
05:38minus two and a half against Sacramento state.
05:41Gabe was talking about this game earlier, Joe, uh, as this San Jose state team, of course,
05:46Brennan leaves to go coach Arizona.
05:48A lot of the players are gone.
05:50Sacramento state, one of the, you know, one of the better FCS teams that can actually
05:54score some points.
05:56Uh, that's one where maybe, uh, we can get the outright upset for the FCS squad.
06:00Yeah.
06:01And while it's a big brother, little brother, right?
06:04I mean, that's kind of what you got there with Sacramento state, San Jose state, certainly
06:09a team in, uh, in disarray, but I'd be careful because we kind of saw that right with New
06:15Mexico.
06:16Uh, and Brock, you know, Bronco Mendenhall taking our roads, like, Oh, this is going
06:20to be a blowout with an FFCS school.
06:23Yeah.
06:24Like why everyone, you know, there's still some players there in San Jose.
06:28I get the line movement, but I'd be very weary in that game.
06:32There would not shock me at home as San Jose state does eventually pull out the wind here.
06:38Yeah.
06:39Uh, absolutely.
06:40And it's a very short number.
06:42It's a late, you know, what we love about that game, Joe, especially for us, me, guys
06:46like me and you on the East coast, we love the 10 o'clock East kicks, uh, any time we
06:51get a little extra late night action, uh, involved in college football, uh, we will
06:57be running to it.
06:58And so it's the first Thursday night bailout blowout game, right?
07:02You either try to bail out from the early ones or you look for a blowout and go for
07:07a ball, uh, in the late night games.
07:09So we will do that.
07:10Anything else interest you Joe here tonight?
07:12I mean, Lafayette and Buffalo Fordham and Bowling Green, uh, Duquesne and Toledo, uh,
07:20Is there anything else here, Joe, on this slate on Thursday night that gets you excited?
07:24I, uh, I do think the coastal Carolina Jacksonville state game is also going to be, uh, pretty
07:30interesting here because you've got no more Grayson McCall there, um, to kind of bail
07:37out coastal Carolina.
07:39I mean, they, he always under center gave them an opportunity.
07:43Always had to think twice about him because you knew he was going to be able to, uh, to
07:47throw the ball over the yard.
07:49It's a, a new era there, Jacksonville state, by the way, even from last year, seven and
07:55one against the number in their past eight games at home, they returned a whole bunch
07:59of guys on this team.
08:01They played great defense.
08:02They can run the ball.
08:04Would not shock me if Jacksonville state wins easily in this one.
