00:00The afternoon T-Express.
00:05Stephen is one of the oldest engines on the island of Sodor.
00:13He collects things for the Earl and the castle.
00:16And he shows visitors around the estate.
00:20But Stephen is very slow.
00:26Move along, slow coach!
00:32One morning, after Spencer had dropped the Duke and Duchess off for a visit to the castle,
00:38he saw the Earl talking to Stephen.
00:41Stephen, I have a special job for you.
00:45Once a week, I need you to collect scones from the bakery and cream from the dairy.
00:53They offer our afternoon teas at the castle tearooms.
00:59Oh, yes, sir. I'll be the afternoon T-Express.
01:04The visitors will wait a long time for their afternoon tea if Stephen is doing the job.
01:10I'll have you know, they used to call me the Rocket, because I was so speedy.
01:17Ha! Compared to a horse and cart, maybe.
01:23This made Stephen very cross.
01:26Oh, I'll show Spencer. I'll be the fastest afternoon T-Express there ever was!
01:35So Stephen collected scones from the bakery.
01:41And cream from the dairy.
01:45Arrgh!
01:48As he puffed back to the castle, Stephen thought he was going very fast.
01:53Make way! Afternoon T-Express coming through!
01:59But Gordon didn't think Stephen was going very fast at all.
02:03Hurry up, slow coach! The real express is trying to get past!
02:09But I'm going as fast as I can!
02:12Well, I can't wait all day for you!
02:16So Gordon puffed right up behind Stephen and gave him a push.
02:21Gordon, what are you doing?
02:24Whoa! Careful! I'm an antique, you know!
02:31Gordon pushed Stephen faster than he had thought.
02:36Gordon pushed Stephen faster than he had ever been before.
02:41And when they got to the castle junction, Gordon slowed down so Stephen could change tracks.
02:47Now that's how an express goes!
02:54Stephen was cross.
02:58When Stephen got to the castle, Spencer was very surprised to see him.
03:04My, my, Stephen! That was quick!
03:08You really are the Afternoon T-Express!
03:13You see, Spencer? I can be speedy!
03:17I'm still the rocket! Pew!
03:25Each week after that, when Stephen collected the scones and the cream,
03:29he got one of the engines to push him.
03:32One day he was pushed by Thomas.
03:37The next day he was pushed by James.
03:42And another day he was pushed by Emily.
03:45Ho, ho, ho! Wahey!
03:49Stephen always got the cream and scones to the castle on time.
03:54Everybody called him the rocket again!
04:02One day the Earl had a very special job for him.
04:06Sir Topham Hatt and Lady Hatt are coming for afternoon tea at the castle today,
04:12but we are out of jam, so I need you to collect some more jam from the docks for me.
04:19Yes, sir! I'll be back in no time!
04:22HORN HONKS
04:28Stephen puffed as fast as he could.
04:32And he collected his truck from the docks.
04:35It was filled with lots of barrels of jam.
04:38There was strawberry, raspberry and even apricot jam.
04:43HORN HONKS
04:45But when Stephen puffed back towards the castle, he couldn't find anyone to push him.
04:51Oh, no! This is where I normally see Gordon.
04:56And this is where I normally find Thomas.
05:00What am I going to do?
05:02HORN HONKS
05:04The castle was still a long way away.
05:07And it would take Stephen a very long time to get there.
05:11Oh, no! It'll be dark by the time I get the jam to the castle.
05:18But then Stephen found Spencer.
05:21What are you doing here?
05:23What are you doing here? I thought you were at the rocket.
05:27The Fat Controller and Lady Hat are waiting at the castle for their afternoon tea.
05:33Stephen had an idea.
05:36Maybe you could push me to the castle, Spencer.
05:39Oh, I'm far too busy to push an old bucket of bolts like you around.
05:45Stephen was very old and very wise.
05:50That's why he knew exactly what to say to Spencer.
05:54Oh, don't worry, Spencer. I don't think you could push me fast enough anyway.
05:59HORN HONKS
06:01This made Spencer very cross.
06:03I'll show you what fast is.
06:06So Spencer buffered up behind Stephen.
06:10Now you really will be the afternoon tea express.
06:16Spencer pushed Stephen faster than Emily.
06:19He pushed him faster than Thomas.
06:22Spencer even pushed Stephen faster than Gordon had.
06:26Faster! Faster!
06:30Spencer pushed Stephen right up to the castle junction.
06:34Thank you, Spencer!
06:36But as Spencer released him, Stephen realised he had a problem.
06:42Oh, no! I'm going too fast!
06:47Stephen, driver and fireman tried to apply the brakes, but it was too late.
06:53He bumped into the buffers at the end of the track.
06:57The barrels of strawberry, raspberry and even apricot jam flew into the air,
07:04then smashed to the ground.
07:07Oh!
07:12Uh-oh!
07:14Luckily, no-one was hurt, but the Fat Controller was very cross.
07:20So was the Earl.
07:22Stephen, what is going on?
07:25Oh, I'm so sorry. I got Spencer to push me so I could go fast.
07:32Stephen, I chose you because you are reliable, not because you are fast.
07:38Sorry, sir. Maybe I don't need to try being speedy anymore.
07:44No, Stephen, you don't.
07:47But what am I going to do about the afternoon teas?
07:52I know, sir. I have to go back and get some more jam.
07:58So why doesn't everyone hop on board and they can have an afternoon tea and a tour at the same time?
08:07Everyone thought this was a grand idea.
08:12So Stephen gave the guests a very slow and gentle ride to the docks.
08:18He collected the jam and the passengers all enjoyed their afternoon tea tour.
08:29Pew!
08:32Slow train coming through!
08:36It's the afternoon tea express!
