00:00Toby's afternoon off. The engines of Sodor are very friendly, and none is more friendly than Toby.
00:13Toby is a happy, smiling steam tram with lots of friends.
00:20There's Mavis at the quarry,
00:24Salty at the docks,
00:29and Thomas. They're all Toby's friends.
00:36One day, Toby had finished all his jobs early.
00:42He was going to spend the afternoon at the farm.
00:47Toby loved visiting the animals.
00:52As he was about to leave, the Fat Controller arrived.
00:55Toby, he said, I have three important specials.
01:01As you have finished early, you will have time to do all of them.
01:07Yes, sir, puffed Toby.
01:10But Toby was worried. He liked being useful, but three jobs would take him the rest of the day.
01:18Now he would have no time to go to the farm.
01:24Toby puffed off. He felt sad.
01:29But then he had an idea.
01:32Perhaps he could get everything done in time.
01:36All I need is some help with just one of my jobs.
01:41I'll ask one of my friends.
01:44Toby's first job was to shunt some trucks at the yards.
01:49As he arrived, he saw Mavis.
01:53Mavis will help me, he thought.
01:56Sorry, Toby, no time to talk, Mavis puffed, and she steamed past him.
02:02Toby was upset. He had been sure Mavis would help him.
02:08I'll just have to shunt the trucks on my own, he puffed sadly.
02:20Next, Toby had to collect some empty trucks from the depot.
02:26As he arrived, Thomas was leaving.
02:29Thomas called Toby.
02:31Wait! Will you help me take some trucks? asked Toby.
02:36Sorry, Toby, chuffed Thomas. I'm in a hurry. I'll help you later.
02:41And Thomas raced away.
02:46Toby was surprised. Mavis and Thomas had both rushed off very quickly.
02:52Now he would have to take the trucks to the coaling plant himself.
02:56It was getting late.
02:59Toby was worried he wouldn't get to the farm, and he wouldn't get to see the animals.
03:06Once Toby had delivered the trucks, he rushed to his last job at Brendam Docks.
03:13Perhaps my friend Salty will help me.
03:18But as Toby arrived, Salty was rushing towards him.
03:24Salty! cried Toby. Stop, please!
03:28I have to help Cranky unload lots of cargo, puffed Toby.
03:33But I'm running out of time. Will you help me?
03:36Ah, sorry, Toby, said Salty.
03:39But I have an important delivery. This piston rod is too important to wait, Maggie.
03:45Toby felt miserable.
03:48He knew deliveries were important, but he thought helping a friend was important too.
03:54Neither Mavis, Thomas, nor Salty had helped Toby.
03:59And I thought they were my friends, puffed Toby sadly.
04:04He would have to move all that cargo on his own. Now he'd never get to the farm.
04:13Toby pulled up alongside Cranky.
04:16What are you waiting for? cranked Cranky.
04:19I'm here to pick up the cargo, said Toby sadly.
04:24The ship's been caught in rough seas, Cranky snapped.
04:28The cargo won't be here till morning.
04:31Toby was delighted.
04:34Now he'd have time to get to the farm, so he raced off.
04:40Then Toby saw Henry in a siding.
04:44Where are you going in such a hurry? wheezed Henry sadly.
04:49Toby told them all about wanting to go to the farm, and all about Mavis, Thomas, and Salty.
04:57I thought friends helped each other, Toby wheezed, but they were all too busy to help me.
05:04That's because they've all been helping me, puffed Henry.
05:08Toby was surprised.
05:11I broke down, said Henry, so Mavis brought my special coal.
05:17Thomas took my passengers, and Salty brought me a new piston rod.
05:23Toby knew he had made a mistake.
05:26Mavis, Thomas, and Salty had been helping a friend after all.
05:32They were all helping you, gasped Toby.
05:36Toby felt very silly.
05:39Is there anything I can do to help you, Henry? he asked.
05:43Henry was surprised.
05:45But then you won't get to the farm to see the animals, said Henry.
05:50It doesn't matter, said Toby.
05:53Helping a friend is much more important.
05:56What can I do?
05:58Henry asked Toby to take his carriages to Knapford Station.
06:03Henry's carriages were very, very heavy.
06:07I don't know if I will be able to move them, said Toby, but I'm going to try.
06:14Toby coupled up to the carriages.
06:20He heaved, and hauled, and puffed, and pulled.
06:27At last, Henry's carriages began to move.
06:33Henry was very pleased.
06:36Thank you, Toby, he called as Toby puffed away.
06:42Sorry about your afternoon off.
06:48But Toby didn't mind.
06:50He was helping his friend.
06:52And that was better than an afternoon off any day.
