00:00A smooth ride. Sir Handel is one of the oldest engines on the island of Sodor.
00:12He's a dark blue colour and has a small number three painted on his side.
00:20Sir Handel is also known as one of the smoothest engines on the Thin Controllers Railway.
00:27Sir Handel had been working in the stone quarry all summer.
00:32The Thin Controller Mr Percival was happy to see him back.
00:37I've got a special for you, Mr Percival told Sir Handel.
00:42I want you to collect some trucks of apples.
00:46You must pull them very carefully or the apples will bruise.
00:51Yes sir, whished Sir Handel and off he chuffed.
00:59At the orchard Sir Handel was coupled to the trucks.
01:04He pulled them away very carefully.
01:10He pulled them around the lake,
01:15across the stone bridge
01:19and he started to puff up a hill.
01:23Then there was trouble.
01:26His pistons popped, his traction rods rattled and his boiler bubbled and bounced.
01:33Sir Handel couldn't go on.
01:37Pieces Sam puffed up behind him. He was worried.
01:42Why have you stopped Sir Handel? he whistled.
01:46I have a problem, whished Sir Handel sadly.
01:51It happens when I go up hills.
01:54I start to rattle and rock and then I have to stop.
02:00Peter Sam felt sorry for his friend.
02:04Could you help me up the hill? puffed Sir Handel.
02:08Of course I can, peeped Peter Sam.
02:12And he pushed Sir Handel and the trucks of apples all the way up the hill.
02:21When Sir Handel arrived at the station the thin controller was very pleased.
02:27There's not one bruise on those apples, said the thin controller.
02:32What a smooth engine you are.
02:35Sir Handel was happy that the thin controller was pleased
02:38so he didn't tell the thin controller about his problem.
02:43Now I have another special for you, said the thin controller.
02:47I want you to pick up sheep from the farm.
02:51Yes sir, puffed Sir Handel, but he was worried.
02:56When Sir Handel arrived at the farm, the farmer was waiting.
03:02Be careful, said the farmer.
03:04Sir Handel, said the farmer, sheep need a smooth ride.
03:09Yes sir, chuffed Sir Handel and he puffed away.
03:18But soon Sir Handel came to another hill.
03:22His pistons popped, his traction rods rattled and his boiler bubbled and bounced.
03:30Sir Handel couldn't go on.
03:34This time, Duncan puffed up behind him.
03:38Sir Handel told him all about his problem.
03:42Duncan was happy to help.
03:46With Duncan's help, Sir Handel delivered the sheep safely to their new field.
03:54When Sir Handel arrived at the transfer yards,
03:58the thin controller and Mrs Percival were waiting.
04:02The thin controller was very pleased with Sir Handel's work.
04:07Now he had a surprise special for him.
04:11Today is my wife's birthday, said the thin controller.
04:16You are to take us to the top of Culdee Fell for a picnic.
04:19Yes sir, puffed Sir Handel.
04:22But he knew that the track to Culdee Fell was very steep.
04:28Sir Handel was more worried than ever.
04:34Sir Handel puffed towards Culdee Fell.
04:38The track was even steeper than he remembered.
04:43I can do it, I can do it to the top of Culdee Fell.
04:47I can do it, I can do it to the top, to the top, he chuffed.
04:53Then there was trouble.
04:55His pistons popped and his traction rods rattled.
04:59Inside the carriage, the picnic hamper burst open
05:03and the thin controller and Mrs Percival were juddered and shuddered.
05:09Sir Handel shuddered to a stop.
05:13The thin controller was worried for his engine.
05:17You're a fine engine Sir Handel, but you're no longer a smooth engine, he said.
05:23I'll have to send you back to the stone quarry.
05:27That's the place for bumpy engines.
05:30Please sir, I can be a smooth engine.
05:33I only shudder and shake when I go up hills, Sir Handel wheezed.
05:38The thin controller listened.
05:40I see, he said.
05:43Please don't send me back to the stone quarry.
05:47The thin controller made a telephone call.
05:51He looked very serious.
05:54Later, Sir Handel was helped back to the transfer yards by Mighty Mac.
06:01Sir Handel was very worried.
06:04He was sure that the thin controller was going to send him back to the quarry.
06:09Sir Handel arrived at the transfer yards.
06:13He saw Thomas.
06:15Hello Sir Handel, tooted Thomas.
06:19Sir Handel, I've asked a special engineer to come and fix you, smiled the thin controller.
06:26You're a special engine and you need special attention.
06:31Sir Handel smiled from buffer to buffer.
06:34Sir Handel smiled from buffer to buffer.
06:38He had never felt happier.
06:42Sir Handel was soon fixed and now he could chuff cheerfully up Culdee Fell.
06:49The children in his carriages whooped and cheered.
06:53Sir Handel gave the smoothest ride of all.
