00:07:07and Ric Flair is in a great position, and Ric Flair is in a great position, and Ric
00:07:11Flair is in a great position, and Ric Flair is in a great position, and Ric Flair is in
00:07:16The Freebirds, though, they learned something from that earlier crossbody off of the ropes.
00:07:22They said no more of that. Jim, both of these teams can go for a bore.
00:07:26But I tell you, I think the birds want to slow it down a little bit because the Southern
00:07:31boys, they really want a fast up-tempo match.
00:07:37Buddy Roberts is not exactly what you'd call Newt Rottney or somebody. He's not a great
00:07:42motivator. He's their leader out there with a bad wing.
00:07:50Referee Mike Atkins will encourage one of the Freebirds.
00:07:56Apparently, Jimmy Jim Garvin to lead the ring.
00:07:58Hayes is the legal competitor now with Tracy Smothers.
00:08:03Ten great matches here, ladies and gentlemen. Over 30 stars on this program, and we are
00:08:07live in Asheville, North Carolina, class of Champions XII, and Smothers with those
00:08:11right hands on the painted face of Michael P.S. Hayes.
00:08:16Oh, Hayes cut him with a left. He missed with a right.
00:08:20But I'll tell you something, he nailed him with that left hand.
00:08:22Boy, that was on the button too, Jim. You can't take anything away from the Freebirds.
00:08:26They're fantastic competitors, and they've been champions, Jim.
00:08:29They know what it's all about in the ring, and they really know how to deliver.
00:08:33Jimmy Garvin taking advantage on the outside of the ring.
00:08:39Tracy Smothers nailed on the outside there.
00:08:43A lot of animosity has accumulated between these two teams.
00:08:50When you talk about the animosity too, Jim, it's something that's been building now
00:08:54over the weeks and over the months. Each week it gets a little more intense,
00:08:58and it's really building, I think, to this final.
00:09:03Freebirds not very popular here in the Deep South.
00:09:07No, but the Southern boys are. You know, I think if Robert E. Lee
00:09:11had to head the Southern boys, Atlanta right now may be the capital.
00:09:14Might be, Bob. That's the fighting spirit he needed.
00:09:20Nice move up and over the top rope. Tracy Smothers now fighting to get to the corner,
00:09:26but Jimmy Garvin cuts off that path.
00:09:30Scoop slam. Garvin's got him up and slams him to the canvas.
00:09:37If they get you hurt, they know what to do. They're going to stay right on top of you.
00:09:44Garvin with those right hands. Now tagging in Michael Hayes.
00:09:48The Freebirds are former world tag team champions.
00:09:53And to say that they don't want to get in the hunt again to go for those world titles,
00:09:57currently held by a doom, would be an understatement.
00:09:59Bulldog headlocked by Michael Hayes, and he nailed it. That was a good move.
00:10:05Lateral press. Two and a half.
00:10:07Smothers down, but a count of two and a half. Very close to being pinned.
00:10:10Hayes really trying to hold that shoulder down.
00:10:12And now Hayes, out of frustration and anger with those right hands to the face,
00:10:17sends Smothers now to the near side here.
00:10:20Smothers up and over, and Hayes nails him again.
00:10:24And is proud of it.
00:10:28Kick to the head by Hayes.
00:10:31Michael Hayes has been the inspirational leader since the Freebird unit was formed.
00:10:35And they were the first group of wrestlers to use rock and roll music
00:10:42extensively in their ring introductions, in their music videos and such.
00:10:46The Freebirds started that, and now so many wrestlers come to the ring with their own theme music.
00:10:51The Freebirds were really the front runners in that complete innovation beginning.
00:10:57And they wrestled so long together as a tag team, they really know what tag team wrestling is all about.
00:11:02They tag often, they keep a fresh man in the ring, they think alike, they work alike.
00:11:07They just epitomize what good tag teams do.
00:11:12Jimmy Garvin dropping Smothers right over the top rope,
00:11:15and the Freebirds have been very dominant in the early going of this,
00:11:19our first event here on Clash of Champions 12, Mountain Madness.
00:11:24Nice slam by Garvin.
00:11:28He may put Tracey Smothers away here.
00:11:32Smothers.
00:11:35Back up.
00:11:37And with a slam off the top rope, brings Garvin back down.
00:11:41Smothers very quickly got up, Bob, it may have been just instinctive because he's really hurting here.
00:11:46And he makes a tag!
00:11:48Extended a body and makes the tag.
00:11:50It's now Michael Hayes and Steve Armstrong.
00:11:54Hayes elevated way up in the lights on that move, and so was Garvin.
00:11:58Good dropkick, full body extension, and another.
00:12:06Good reversal there by Michael Hayes.
00:12:08There's Buddy Roberts.
00:12:11Buddy Roberts trying to get involved here.
00:12:14He was up on the apron.
00:12:16Armstrong! Armstrong!
00:12:18The referee didn't see that.
00:12:20Bullet Bob with a big right hand.
00:12:22He nailed Hayes.
00:12:26Got a near fall situation.
00:12:29Buddy Roberts obviously is not injured.
00:12:35That arm is out of that sling, and as you say, he wasn't.
00:12:37Oh, they missed it, Jim.
00:12:39They missed that double shoulder block.
00:12:41This is getting very chaotic here in our opening contest at the Clash.
00:12:46Buddy Roberts just threw some type of foreign object, international object.
00:12:50I think they missed it.
00:12:51Referee's got it!
00:12:52Hayes has caught him!
00:12:54And here's the big moment.
00:12:56Here are your winners, the Wild Arm Summer Boys!
00:13:01The Summer Boys have won the match, but Bob, they're not winning the war now.
00:13:05They certainly are not, Jim.
00:13:07The Freebirds are not finished, as we've got all six of them in the ring for a few moments.
00:13:12And now they've got Bob Armstrong.
00:13:14The three Freebirds are taking over on Bullet Bob Armstrong.
00:13:17Buddy Roberts, double DDT on Armstrong.
00:13:21They just planted Bob Armstrong.
00:13:24The Freebirds making a big point here.
00:13:27Here comes another look, Bob.
00:13:29All right, and fans, you can get a look at just what's happening outside of the ring.
00:13:34You see Buddy Roberts as he gets up onto the apron there.
00:13:37There's that international object rolling on that canvas.
00:13:41Look at this.
00:13:42Over the back for the double pin.
00:13:43They pin them both at one time.
00:13:44One, two, three.
00:13:45The Summer Boys won the match, but the Freebirds have won the war, and we'll be right back.
00:14:05Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen of TBS and Clash of Champions XII.
00:14:08We'll be back for live action here in the ring momentarily,
00:14:11but our colleague Tony Schiavone is standing by in the locker room
00:14:14with the new United States Tag Team Champions.
00:14:16Let's go to Tony and the Steiner Brothers.
00:14:20Okay, Jim Ross, thank you very much.
00:14:22They are new U.S. Tag Team Champions.
00:14:24Scott and Rick Steiner winning the belts from the Midnight Express in the Middlelands
00:14:27back on August 24th.
00:14:29Scotty, it's got to feel good to be champions once again.
00:14:31That's right, Tony.
00:14:32You know, I'm excited for two reasons.
00:14:33The first one being we're giving the people champions that they can cheer for.
00:14:38The second reason is now makes us the number one contenders
00:14:41for those World Tag Team Champions.
00:14:43Doom, you can't deny us a rematch any longer.
00:14:47Those World Tag Team titles are coming back across our waist.
00:14:51Okay, now, Rick, tonight on TBS against Maximum Overdrive,
00:14:55we know nothing about them.
00:14:56They have nothing to lose against you guys tonight.
00:14:58Tony, have you ever heard of them?
00:14:59Not at all. What strategy have you got?
00:15:01We've never heard of them either.
00:15:02My brother and I go up to the ring.
00:15:03We never have any strategy.
00:15:05I never know what I'm going to do.
00:15:06He may know a little bit, but we always go up to the ring
00:15:09with nothing on our mind.
00:15:10And every time we get in the ring, we just do whatever comes natural.
00:15:13Doom, you had your chance of being the champions.
00:15:16You told us go back down to the bottom and wrestle all those bums down there.
00:15:20Well, we went down, and this is proof.
00:15:22We're coming back, Doom.
00:15:24Guarantee it.
00:15:25Okay, fans, let's go back to the ring.
00:15:28Wrestling fans, the following contest, it is set for one fall.
00:15:32Introducing first in the ring, from Jacksonville, Florida,
00:15:36weighing 235 pounds,
00:15:40Meet your boy, Buddy Headline.
00:15:48And ladies and gentlemen, his opponent,
00:15:51accompanied to the ring by the winner of the Burger King
00:15:55Ringmaster Contest, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
00:15:59Matt Cindy Anderson, from Syracuse, New York,
00:16:03weighing 236 pounds,
00:16:07Captain Mike Rotunda.
00:16:15Captain Mike Rotunda and Buddy Landell here at the Clash of Champions XII.
00:16:20Our congratulations to Cindy Anderson, who won the Burger King Ringmaster Contest.
00:16:25Bob, that promotion consisted of fans writing poetry
00:16:28to World Championship Wrestling.
00:16:30And our congratulations to Cindy, and we're glad she's here,
00:16:33all the way from Pittsburgh to see this event.
00:16:35Yeah, you're right, Jim, and I know she, like all of the many fans here,
00:16:38and all the fans across the country, are really enjoying this great night
00:16:41of professional wrestling.
00:16:42This is going to be a good match.
00:16:44Mike Rotunda, Buddy Landell.
00:16:46Rotunda, the two-sport star out of Syracuse, Jim,
00:16:48captain of the football team.
00:16:49He knows what it's about in the ring,
00:16:51a former world tag and a world TV champion.
00:16:54He has got a great background in there.
00:16:56Nature boy Buddy Landell's got him a tattoo there on his right arm.
00:16:59What does that say?
00:17:00Skid Row, and I think he talked to you about that, Bob,
00:17:02before we went on the air.
00:17:03Yeah, he sure did, Jim.
00:17:04Buddy Landell said that his friends, and I tell you,
00:17:06there's a little dispute about who's the greatest rock and roll band of all time.
00:17:09But Landell says his friends, the greatest rock and roll band of all time,
00:17:13Skid Row, that they're watching to see him beat Mike Rotunda.
00:17:16And Buddy says he's going to do it for his main man, who is Snake Sabo.
00:17:22All right, well, we'll see if Buddy can live up to his boast.
00:17:25He's certainly very eloquent in his threats.
00:17:29I can tell you that.
00:17:30Landell rolling Rotunda up on his shoulders.
00:17:32Mike Rotunda, an outstanding athlete, as Bob Codley alluded to.
00:17:35Randy Anderson, the referee here at Asheville, North Carolina.
00:17:38We are live from the Civic Center.
00:17:40Ten big matches in all.
00:17:42This is number two.
00:17:44And, of course, we are anxiously awaiting something about the Black Scorpion.
00:17:49Will we find out who this man is a little bit later tonight?
00:17:52Nice move there by Rotunda, taking Landell up and over in the hip lock.
00:17:56The Scorpion has really been playing mind games with Sting, Jim.
00:17:59Sting has tried, as we have, and any number of people,
00:18:02have really tried to find out who this man is.
00:18:05And still, to this moment, Sting doesn't have any idea.
00:18:08I talked to him just a few minutes ago in the locker room.
00:18:11Collared elbow tie-up and a nice counter move there by Landell
00:18:15and countered again by Captain Mike Rotunda.
00:18:17Landell trying to free himself by using the elbow there, and it works that time.
00:18:22Landell, the foot to the midsection, and follows it with a right hand.
00:18:26Both these men are very talented performers.
00:18:28Both have high and lofty goals here in world championship wrestling.
00:18:32This is a very important match as far as the top ten ratings are concerned.
00:18:36And later in tonight's program, we're going to show you the top ten ratings
00:18:40as far as the singles are concerned and the tag team competitors here in the NWA.
00:18:45When you talk about this being a competitive match, Jim,
00:18:48sometimes we overlook the ability of Buddy Landell.
00:18:51And I think that's partly due to the fact that he's got one of the biggest egos
00:18:55and one of the biggest mouths in all of professional sports.
00:18:58Usually, he can talk his way right into trouble.
00:19:00If it can be done, Buddy Landell is going to do it.
00:19:04Rotunda continues to work on the arm, goes behind into the hammerlock,
00:19:08putting a great deal of pressure not only on the shoulder, but on the elbow as well.
00:19:13Rotunda, very sound strategist.
00:19:15Trained by former All-American Dick Byer.
00:19:17He had a great and very illustrious professional career as well.
00:19:22But Landell made a good counter move there.
00:19:24Very proud of himself.
00:19:27Well, as we say, he knows what it's all about.
00:19:29And he knows how to handle it amongst anybody in that ring.
00:19:32He knows how to use the tools he's got.
00:19:34And talking about tools, Mike Rotunda, he's got all the tools, Jim.
00:19:38Size, strength, quickness.
00:19:40Plus, he's got the experience.
00:19:42Rotunda fighting fire with fire now.
00:19:44Firing back with right hands.
00:19:46Buddy Landell, though, that knee to the abdomen area.
00:19:51And now goes behind for the abdominal stretch,
00:19:55using the ropes there for some additional leverage.
00:19:59Referee is being blocked.
00:20:01Takes a look now, but about a half a step too late.
00:20:04Landell, being the veteran that he is,
00:20:06certainly knows where the referee is at all times.
00:20:09Well, he does, and he keeps his eye right on him.
00:20:11But he's got that stretch locked in tight.
00:20:13And when he gets a hold of that rope,
00:20:15he's able to get a little more pressure and a little more push into it.
00:20:18Really puts it right into the back of Mike Rotunda.
00:20:22Rotunda reverses out of it with a hip lock,
00:20:25but misses the elbow.
00:20:26Landell, perhaps anticipating that move, rolled out of the way.
00:20:30And now it's Landell setting Rotunda
00:20:33and executing the vertical suplex there.
00:20:37That was a good suplex, too.
00:20:38He had him high to the air.
00:20:39He came hard down to the mat.
00:20:41You know, he's always talking to his opponent.
00:20:44He really tries to get under their skin.
00:20:46And if anybody can do it, Landell can.
00:20:48Rotunda, to win this match,
00:20:49is going to have to keep his mind and his body tuned as one,
00:20:52not let Landell bother him.
00:20:54Characteristically, Mike Rotunda has a very low-key demeanor.
00:20:58I don't think Landell's boast is going to affect Mike in that respect.
00:21:02And Rotunda now fires back again with right hands
00:21:05and sends Landell for the ride.
00:21:07Catches him with the elbow.
00:21:10Right in the chest.
00:21:11And Rotunda, with a leg drop, across the chest,
00:21:14has the leg grapevine on top and got two.
00:21:17Well, he had a leg hook, but he still couldn't hold him.
00:21:20Only for the count of two.
00:21:21Want to say hi to our friends back in Atlanta.
00:21:23The NWA back in the Omni on Sunday night, September the 23rd.
00:21:27A big night for kids 14 and under, Bob.
00:21:29Jim, that's going to be a great night.
00:21:31That sting watch night in the Omni
00:21:33and the first 1,000 kids under 14 years of age
00:21:36with a paid adult is going to receive a sting wristwatch.
00:21:40That's in the Omni on Sunday night, September 23rd.
00:21:43And Landell again taking a shortcut.
00:21:46It's ironic that Landell will test his opponent.
00:21:49He'll go so deep into the match and find out that some of his moves
00:21:52may not work as well as he would like,
00:21:54and then he starts taking the shortcuts.
00:21:56Rotunda is not of that ilk.
00:21:59Both arms cut there.
00:22:00One, two, three, he got it.
00:22:02Rotunda, wrestling move.
00:22:04That Landell down.
00:22:05Ladies and gentlemen, here is your winner, Mike Rotunda.
00:22:11Fans, when we come back, Tony Schiavone is going to be talking
00:22:14to the fabulous Freebirds, but let's take another look.
00:22:17This is great counter wrestling.
00:22:19Landell is going to come with a hip toss off of the ropes.
00:22:22Look at the good reversal.
00:22:23The backslide right here by Mike Rotunda.
00:22:26He's going to put the shoulders to the mat for the count of three.
00:22:28When we come back, Tony Schiavone will be with the Freebirds live
00:22:31from the Clash of Champions still to come, Luger and Flair.
00:22:35♪♪
00:22:49Okay, the Clash of Champions continues right here on TBS
00:22:54and still to come, Sting and the Black Scorpion for the world title,
00:22:58but the match that has everybody buzzing so far,
00:23:00the Southern Boys and a tremendous win over the Freebirds,
00:23:03even though these three men certainly would disagree.
00:23:05Let me tell you something, Pauly.
00:23:07I'm real glad you're shutting your mouth right now
00:23:10before General Buddy Lee shoved his fist down it.
00:23:14Now, I want to know, oh, how much longer do you think
00:23:19the Freebirds are going to put up with being treated like a bunch of garbage?
00:23:24If you people can't respect us, we're going to teach you how to respect us.
00:23:29If we have to go through the Southern Boys or anybody else,
00:23:33we're going to show you that nobody messed on the Freebirds before
00:23:38and nobody's going to mess on them now.
00:23:40Tell them, Buddy.
00:23:42That's right. You know, General Robert E. Lee,
00:23:45he's looking down here upon us and saying,
00:23:49Freebirds, get the Southern Boys out of here,
00:23:53and that's what we're going to do.
00:23:55Hey, you people might think they won the battle,
00:23:57but we're going to win the war.
00:23:59I'm going to tell you right now, Bullet Bob,
00:24:01you are step number one, and there will be many to follow
00:24:06because we are the fabulous Freebirds.

00:25:52Wrestling fans, the following tag team event,
00:25:54it is set for one fall.
00:25:56Introducing first, from Morristown, Tennessee,
00:25:59weighing 224 pounds,
00:26:02White Lightning, Tim Horner.
00:26:06His tag team partner from Marietta, Georgia,
00:26:09234 pounds,
00:26:11The Candyman, Brad Armstrong.
00:26:17Brad Armstrong and Tim Horner are a great team.
00:26:20They've been partners in the past,
00:26:22they've been champions in the past,
00:26:24and they'll be meeting a debuting duo.
00:26:26Let's go back to the ring.
00:26:28And ladies and gentlemen, their opponents,
00:26:31total combined weight, 590 pounds,
00:26:36from the Motor City of Detroit, Michigan,
00:26:40Iron Man,
00:26:42from the Motor City of Detroit, Michigan,
00:26:46Iron Steel,
00:26:49Sylvester Blasters.
00:26:52We understand that the taller one, 6'10", 300 pounds,
00:26:56is Steel.
00:26:58He's smaller, smaller by meaning he's 290,
00:27:02is Iron.
00:27:03Jim, just by sheer size, they're awfully impressive.
00:27:07You know, you and I both,
00:27:08we've been around the Horn a few times ourselves.
00:27:10I've never seen these guys.
00:27:11I don't know a thing about them.
00:27:13Their debut is now.
00:27:15We're moments away from the Master Blasters' debut
00:27:19here on TBS and for the world to see.
00:27:22And those two young men right there,
00:27:24great, great kids, I'll tell you that.
00:27:26And they are an outstanding combination with any team.
00:27:29This is a big, big team they're being challenged by.
00:27:32Jim, if size and strength and what looks to be power
00:27:36were requisites to being great champions,
00:27:38hey, you can give these guys belts now.
00:27:40They're awfully impressive.
00:27:42Huge, big individuals.
00:27:44Steel, as I said, is around that 6'10'' mark,
00:27:49over 300 pounds, big guy, nice wrist lock there.
00:27:53Quick move, big clubbing blow right to the shoulder
00:27:56and underneath.
00:27:57Boy, you just picked Tim Horner up.
00:27:59Oh, man.
00:28:00Like he was a $5 sack of groceries.
00:28:02Yes, sir.
00:28:03All those muscles are not for show, that's for sure.
00:28:07Tag made here.
00:28:09Boy, he just towers over Horner.
00:28:16Iron there, working on the arm.
00:28:19Their strategy, very basic.
00:28:21We thought it probably would be.
00:28:23A power match is what they want to wrestle.
00:28:25That's right, and I tell you,
00:28:26Tim Horner and Brad Armstrong,
00:28:28they got to avoid the power match
00:28:29if they're going to come out the winners on this.
00:28:31They got to keep it uptempo,
00:28:32they got to keep it fast-paced
00:28:34and get out of the power match,
00:28:35which it's opened up as being.
00:28:37They hit him downstairs, they hit him upstairs.
00:28:40Man, this big guy especially is impressive.
00:28:45Chop to the chest of Tim Horner,
00:28:47who is no small man, I can tell you.
00:28:51Horner moved out of the way,
00:28:52fires back with a couple of right hands,
00:28:54didn't really seem to hurt the big man.
00:28:56And he held on to the rope,
00:28:57very unlike a rookie in that blind tag was made.
00:29:01Drops the elbow.
00:29:05On top of the lateral press.
00:29:09Again, using that head as a battering ram.
00:29:13Tags in, here comes Brad Armstrong,
00:29:15he'll pick it up a notch.
00:29:17Yes, sir, he certainly will do that.
00:29:19I was thinking of White Lightning,
00:29:20Tim Horner, Jim, you know.
00:29:21Ooh, shoulder block, Bob, he caught him.
00:29:23Brad, he caught Brad flat-footed there
00:29:26with a shoulder block,
00:29:27and the momentum has slowed again.
00:29:29The Master Blasters' game plan has to be
00:29:32because of their experience level,
00:29:34very simplistic, and indeed it is.
00:29:38I think we agreed going in
00:29:39when we saw the tremendous size of these two individuals
00:29:42that Armstrong and Horner had to wrestle
00:29:44a perfect mistake-free match, Jim.
00:29:47They didn't want to get into the power match.
00:29:48It's been a power match since the opening bell.
00:29:51Power slam, took him to complete 360.
00:29:55And still there,
00:29:57the bigger of the two, the Master Blasters.
00:30:00These guys came right from the steel yards.
00:30:02Look at that soot, they look dirty.
00:30:05Be quite honest about it.
00:30:07I don't think they've had a bath recently.
00:30:09They certainly don't look like it.
00:30:10I'm not going to remind them of it either,
00:30:12to be honest with you.
00:30:13The drop kick, just send the guy reeling,
00:30:15he's not even coming off his feet.
00:30:17No, he hasn't got him down with that drop kick,
00:30:19and he's got a tremendous amount of power in there.
00:30:21Brad Armstrong just ran into,
00:30:24had to be a size 14 or 15 boot.
00:30:27He needs now to get over to make a tag
00:30:29with partner Tim Horner, White Lightning.
00:30:31You know that aptly describes Horner, Jim,
00:30:33and we don't mean the kind that
00:30:34some of our mountain friends up here
00:30:36are so adept at distilling either.
00:30:38Horner came by that tag,
00:30:39really because of his exceptional quickness
00:30:42and speed in the ring.
00:30:43Very quick man, but that quickness
00:30:46is muted right now.
00:30:48So is Armstrong's flying shoulder block.
00:30:53Brad Armstrong really being mauled here,
00:30:55and that's very uncharacteristic
00:30:56because he is a tremendous competitor.
00:30:59Nice body slam there by Iron.
00:31:03Elbow drop to the solar plexus
00:31:05on top of the lateral press,
00:31:07but Brad kicks out.
00:31:08The Candyman almost was pinned there.
00:31:12The leg drop.
00:31:14Again, Armstrong kicks out.
00:31:15Man, you've got to hand it to him.
00:31:17Well, the offense, though,
00:31:18has come from the side of the ring.
00:31:20Armstrong with a drop kick.
00:31:21Down goes Iron.
00:31:24And Tim Horner back in.
00:31:26There's that white lightning
00:31:27Bob Cottle was talking about.
00:31:29They've got to kick it up a notch or two.
00:31:32Iron was elevated.
00:31:34And Tim Horner now trying to fight back.
00:31:38And there's a sweeper up on the back for more leverage.
00:31:44Steel comes in.
00:31:46That big forearm.
00:31:50Brad Armstrong.
00:31:51Oh, he's tossed outside.
00:31:53His head hit right on the concrete.
00:31:56And now Tim Horner is left by himself
00:31:58against the Master Blaster.
00:32:00Double teamed in there
00:32:01by the two big, huge strong men.
00:32:03Look at that.
00:32:04Double shoulder block.
00:32:06Tim Horner.
00:32:07Tim Horner.
00:32:09And now the two big, huge strong men.
00:32:11Look at that.
00:32:12Double shoulder block.
00:32:14Leg grapevine.
00:32:16Steel and Iron.
00:32:17The Master Blasters with a victory.
00:32:20Here are your winners,
00:32:21Iron, Steel, the Master Blasters.
00:32:26A big, strong duo.
00:32:29A lot of raw talent.
00:32:31And Jim, I'm sure that we're going to hear a lot
00:32:33from these two guys in the months and the years to come
00:32:36because, as you say, they're so big,
00:32:38so strong, and so powerful.
00:32:40And a lot of raw talent and ability.
00:32:42There with a double shoulder,
00:32:43Horner was to the mat for the win.
00:32:45Fans, Tony Schiavone standing by in the locker room
00:32:47with the first man to run the gauntlet.
00:32:50Tony standing by with Flying Brian.
00:32:55Okay, Jim Ross, thank you very much.
00:32:57And what an impressive win for the Master Blasters.
00:32:59Our first look at the NWA, the Master Blasters.
00:33:01Flying Brian with us.
00:33:02I know you're looking forward to that big title matchup
00:33:04tonight between Sting and the Black Scorpion.
00:33:06Who is the Black Scorpion?
00:33:07I don't know, Tony, and I'll tell you what,
00:33:08this man is certainly shrouded in mystery.
00:33:10And there's definitely a lot of people out there
00:33:12wondering with great anticipation
00:33:15just what the identity of the Black Scorpion is.
00:33:17In addition to that, just what physical threat
00:33:20will the Black Scorpion pose for Sting inside the ring?
00:33:23Okay, Jim Ross talked about the gauntlet.
00:33:25Now, starting right here on TBS on Friday,
00:33:27September 14th, on the Power Hour that night,
00:33:29a new concept for the NWA and World Championship Wrestling.
00:33:33It's called the gauntlet.
00:33:34We'll talk to Brian about it in just a minute.
00:33:36Now, let's take a look at the objectives
00:33:38for someone running the gauntlet.
00:33:39First of all, as you can see,
00:33:40to win three consecutive bouts on three consecutive days
00:33:43on the Power Hour, WCW on Saturday night,
00:33:45and Sunday on the NWA main event.
00:33:47The man to run the gauntlet succeeds.
00:33:49He wins $15,000.
00:33:50If he loses a bout, prize money is equally divided
00:33:53between the challengers.
00:33:54Now, the rules are pretty simple.
00:33:55A wrestler is selected from eligible candidates
00:33:57who have agreed to compete.
00:33:58The wrestler will draw three names at random
00:34:00on the Power Hour Friday night.
00:34:02Those three names represent his three opponents
00:34:04on the three consecutive nights.
00:34:06The first bout will take place on the Power Hour,
00:34:08second on World Championship Wrestling,
00:34:10third on the main event, and flying, Brian,
00:34:11you're the first man who's agreed to run the gauntlet,
00:34:14and your chance at $15,000 starting on the 14th.
00:34:16Well, it's a walk through the unknown.
00:34:18It's a situation similar to the black scorpion.
00:34:20I'm gonna be taking on three unknown opponents
00:34:23on successive nights,
00:34:24and that makes preparation very, very tough.
00:34:27So it's like going up against a team,
00:34:28because all three men will be looking to divide that money.
00:34:30That's right.
00:34:31All three men up against you,
00:34:32all three men with diverse talents and skills.
00:34:34It's gonna be tough,
00:34:35but I can only make you one promise.
00:34:36I'm gonna bring you everything I got.
00:34:38Okay, good luck to you on the 14th.
00:34:39That's starting on the Power Hour, the gauntlet.
00:34:41We'll have more on TBS right after this.
00:34:45♪♪
00:34:59Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen,
00:35:01to the Clash of Champions XII.
00:35:03We'll have more live action in just a moment,
00:35:05but right now, let's go live to Missy Hyatt
00:35:08and a very special interview.
00:35:11Thanks, Jim, and now I would like to introduce
00:35:14the greatest world champion of ever.
00:35:18He is outspoken, controversial.
00:35:21He is nature boy Ric Flair.
00:35:24And, Ric, I've said it before on national television
00:35:27that you can beat that egomaniac
00:35:30Lex Luger for the U.S. Heavyweight Championship.
00:35:33Well, Missy, darling, we have one thing in common,
00:35:36if nothing else, baby.
00:35:38You are all the way live tonight.
00:35:41And as we all know to be a truth,
00:35:44Ric Flair is styling and profiling
00:35:48in Asheville, whoo, North Carolina.
00:35:52Lex Luger, Missy Hyatt couldn't have said it better.
00:35:57You're the United States champion.
00:35:59You're the number one contender
00:36:02for the one and only World Heavyweight Championship.
00:36:07Tonight, that all changed
00:36:10because Slick Rick walks that aisle, whoo,
00:36:15looking, baby, as only he can look
00:36:19to become the United States Heavyweight Champion.
00:36:25Then, Missy Hyatt, you will say to yourself,
00:36:28as I walk off into the sunset,
00:36:31what's causing all this, nature boy?
00:36:34Whoo!
00:36:35Now, let's go to the ring.
00:36:39Ladies and gentlemen, the following tag team event,
00:36:42it is set for one fall.
00:36:44Introducing team number one to my left,
00:36:47from New York City,
00:36:49Jerry Saggs, Brian Nobbs,
00:36:52the Rusty Boyz.
00:36:55And ladies and gentlemen, their opponents,
00:36:57first, from the City of Angels, Los Angeles, California,
00:37:01weighing 231 pounds,
00:37:05Jackie Fulton.
00:37:09His tag team partner, from Barrow Beach, Florida,
00:37:12234 pounds,
00:37:15Terry Taylor.
00:37:19Taylor and Fulton to take on the Nasty Boyz.
00:37:22Well, the Nasty Boyz, Jim,
00:37:23another one of the power teams
00:37:25that seem to really be coming in
00:37:27to dominate professional wrestling now.
00:37:30The sport seems to be really evolving into a power sport.
00:37:34That's Jerry Saggs,
00:37:37the darker-haired of the two Nasty Boyz,
00:37:41Brian Nobbs, the blonde there.
00:37:43It'll be Brian Nobbs starting out
00:37:46against Jerry Saggs.
00:37:49Brian Nobbs starting out against Jackie Fulton.
00:37:54Nature Boy and Ric Flair in rare form.
00:37:57I couldn't tell him if he was trying to get into that dress
00:37:59or get out of it.
00:38:02It might have been an in-between situation.
00:38:04I'm not sure.
00:38:05I'm glad we didn't have any trimmers.
00:38:07Were it not in California, that would have been deadly.
00:38:09And I'll tell you something else that's deadly,
00:38:11the abilities of the Nasty Boyz.
00:38:13They come to world championship wrestling
00:38:14with a very tough reputation,
00:38:17being tough in and out of the ring.
00:38:19And Brian Nobbs in there with right hands on Jackie Fulton.
00:38:23Overhand wrist lock.
00:38:25Well, this is another team that wants to do nothing
00:38:27but get in and empower,
00:38:29stand toe-to-toe with you,
00:38:31try to knock you, kick you around,
00:38:32do anything they can to you.
00:38:34And this is something that Terry Taylor
00:38:37and Jackie Fulton have got to avoid.
00:38:39Fulton.
00:38:40Nice move there by Fulton.
00:38:42Coming out of the double team.
00:38:43Goes for the ropes.
00:38:45High cross body on both Nasty Boyz.
00:38:48I had just started to say,
00:38:50they both got tremendous athletic ability and skills
00:38:52and a lot of wrestling knowledge.
00:38:54And they're the type of team
00:38:55that can give the Nasty Boyz a lot of trouble.
00:38:58Good neckbreaker by Terry Taylor.
00:39:00Taylor very quickly goes for the pin here.
00:39:03Taylor, in my estimation, is the key element in this match
00:39:06because he's the most experienced man in the match.
00:39:08Very high level of skills.
00:39:10Those two young men are tag team specialists.
00:39:13They've wrestled together
00:39:14virtually their entire wrestling career.
00:39:16This is the first match, to my knowledge,
00:39:18that Taylor has ever wrestled with Jackie Fulton.
00:39:20Fulton normally teams with his partner, Bobby Fulton,
00:39:24who is abroad now
00:39:25and unable to be here with us at the Clash.
00:39:27That's right.
00:39:28Teaming together with, of course, Bobby.
00:39:29They're the Fantastics.
00:39:30And as you say, Jim,
00:39:31I haven't seen Taylor and Jackie Fulton together before.
00:39:35But again, just their pure athletic abilities
00:39:38have got to carry them a long way.
00:39:40I think as the match progresses,
00:39:41we'll see just how their lack of time together
00:39:44as a tag team will affect them.
00:39:46That's where the Nasty Boys should have the advantage.
00:39:48As the match progresses,
00:39:50when mistakes are more prone to happen,
00:39:52when fatigue begins to set in,
00:39:54we'll see how the strategy unfolds at that time.
00:39:56Right now, Taylor and Fulton,
00:39:58especially Fulton keeping it very up-tempo.
00:40:01He likes to go to the air.
00:40:03The younger brother of Bobby Fulton
00:40:04likes to go to the air.
00:40:05He's been tutored by one of the best tag team wrestlers
00:40:08in the sport, his brother Bobby.
00:40:10Harry Taylor caught with a stiff forearm
00:40:13right to the side of the head there.
00:40:15Well, that will ring your bell, too.
00:40:17Jim, fans, we've got tremendous fans
00:40:20right here in Asheville, Jim, at the Civic Center.
00:40:22And by the way, we've got the Asheville Big Brothers
00:40:25and the Big Sisters.
00:40:26They're here with the group tonight.
00:40:28Taylor!
00:40:29He pissed off Jerry Saggs there,
00:40:33ran him shoulder first into the ring post.
00:40:36And Taylor comes off the apron
00:40:38and nails him again right in front of us.
00:40:40And Taylor's got him hurt.
00:40:41Now's the time to finish him off if he can,
00:40:44keep him from making that tag.
00:40:45Bobby can almost count.
00:40:46Taylor's gonna try to go for the pin here
00:40:48as soon as he can.
00:40:49He has that innate ability to sense
00:40:52when his opponent is weakened,
00:40:54and that comes with experience.
00:40:57Taylor going for the high crossbody.
00:40:59He's got him.
00:41:00He's going for the pin right now.
00:41:02Pure strength.
00:41:03He just couldn't hold him down.
00:41:06Tag made again.
00:41:07Jackie Fulton in there.
00:41:08I want to remind the fans of the Great American Fans Jam,
00:41:11Pro Wrestling's biggest party line,
00:41:13Friday night, October 5th only.
00:41:15Begins at 7 o'clock Eastern time.
00:41:17Talk to all the play-by-play and color men of the NWA.
00:41:21You can talk to each other coast-to-coast.
00:41:23Sting will be there, Lex Luger.
00:41:25Gordon Soley, Lance Russell,
00:41:27my colleague Bob Scott and Tony Schiavone.
00:41:29Yours truly will all be involved in that.
00:41:32Pro Wrestling's biggest party line,
00:41:34the Great American Fans Jam,
00:41:36Friday night, October 5th.
00:41:37Hey, Jim, we're all looking forward to that one.
00:41:39That's going to be a big night.
00:41:40I grew up in Oklahoma in a party line,
00:41:42so I should be used to that.
00:41:43Good arm drag takeover by Jackie Fulton.
00:41:45Takes Brian Nobbs over.
00:41:47Both Nobbs and Sags,
00:41:49close to the 300-pound range.
00:41:51Obviously, that weight and that belt
00:41:53lends to a power match.
00:41:54But it's Taylor and Fulton taking it up-tempo.
00:41:57Good belly-to-back suplex by Taylor.
00:41:59Jackie Fulton now,
00:42:01the aerial expert of this team
00:42:04with a dropkick from the top rope.
00:42:06On top, one, two, and a half.
00:42:08Boy, he nailed him with that dropkick off of the rope.
00:42:11Jim, only for the two, two and a half.
00:42:13Just that close to being a win.
00:42:15Tag made now.
00:42:18Terry Taylor back in.
00:42:22And Brian Nobbs
00:42:24got a handful of hair,
00:42:26a double handful of hair,
00:42:27and took Taylor down.
00:42:28Face first to the canvas.
00:42:30I think that Nobbs and Sags and Nasty Boys
00:42:32know that Taylor is really the key to this match.
00:42:35His skills have been really enhanced
00:42:37by his years in the ring.
00:42:39He's a young man really coming into his own
00:42:42as Terry Taylor.
00:42:43I think he's the rudder
00:42:44that'll keep this match up
00:42:46on an even course for his team.
00:42:48Well, and they feel that same way.
00:42:49I'm sure they've been keying on Terry Taylor.
00:42:51And they want to keep Taylor in the ring now
00:42:53as long as they can.
00:42:54Keep him away from making a tag.
00:42:56Try to wear him down, Jim.
00:42:58Double team move.
00:43:00The Nasty Boys,
00:43:02their tag team expertise
00:43:04will be at a notch above Taylor and Fulton
00:43:07simply because they're tag team specialists.
00:43:09And we are again a half a count away
00:43:12from a victory for the Nasty Boys.
00:43:14Well, you can talk about ability
00:43:15and you can talk about tag team wrestling,
00:43:17but when he comes down to it like Taylor did,
00:43:19it was just dig down.
00:43:20It was gut check time right there for Terry Taylor.
00:43:24Taylor up and over.
00:43:25Trying to sunset flip.
00:43:27And he finally executes it.
00:43:29One, two, three.
00:43:31That was close.
00:43:32Son of a gun.
00:43:33People out of their seats on that one.
00:43:39Now the Nasty Boys double teaming Taylor.
00:43:42The referee is putting Jackie Fulton back outside.
00:43:49Taylor drops down.
00:43:50Out of sight.
00:43:51And the Nasty Boys reintroduced.
00:43:55Here comes Jackie Fulton again.
00:43:57He's got him up.
00:43:58Good slam.
00:43:59And another one.
00:44:03A drop kick by this youngster.
00:44:04Man, his adrenaline is pumping.
00:44:06His first outing here on national television.
00:44:09Bellator black suplex with a bridge.
00:44:11One, two.
00:44:12He had him.
00:44:13He had him.
00:44:14But sags interrupted the count.
00:44:17He very definitely would have had him for the pin.
00:44:21Fulton up on top again.
00:44:22Comes up.
00:44:23He's caught him midair with a power slam.
00:44:26Sags going up.
00:44:27If he nails him with this one, it will be all.
00:44:29Take it from me.
00:44:30That will be it.
00:44:31Solar plexus.
00:44:32It's over.
00:44:33The Nasty Boys have won it.
00:44:35Here are your winners, Jackie Fulton and the Nasty Boys.
00:44:42Jim, you're right.
00:44:43When he nailed him off of the ropes, he did a great job.
00:44:46Terry Taylor fighting back for his team.
00:44:49He's got him.
00:44:50He's got him.
00:44:51He's got him.
00:44:52He's got him.
00:44:53He's got him.
00:44:54He's got him.
00:44:55Terry Taylor fighting back for his team.
00:44:57But it's still a victory for the Nasty Boys.
00:44:59Still to come, Tony Schiavone will talk to Sid Vicious.
00:45:02WCW Top 10.
00:45:04And this was the coup de grace.
00:45:06Off of the top rope.
00:45:07And as you say, from the corner, he really nailed him, Jim.
00:45:10No way that he was going to be able to get up from that
00:45:13tremendous power move and that blow.
00:45:15It was all over right here.
00:45:16He's wrestling's newest monster.
00:45:18And he'll be speaking to Tony Schiavone when we come back.
00:45:22Sid Vicious is next on the Clash of Champions.
00:45:25♪♪
00:45:37The Clash of Champions continues right here on TBS.
00:45:41Still to come, Ric Flair, the four horseman,
00:45:43goes after the U.S. title on Lex Luger.
00:45:45Speaking of the horseman, the biggest right here,
00:45:476'9", 330, big Sid Vicious.
00:45:51Tony Schiavone, I want to send a message.
00:45:54Shut up!
00:45:56I want to send a message to you, Stinger.
00:45:59You've got something I won't.
00:46:01And that's that world belt.
00:46:03And I deserve it more than any other person in the NWA.
00:46:08Tell you what, he still has a big match with the Black Scorpion
00:46:13still to come.
00:46:14The Black Scorpion.
00:46:15I don't care about the Black Scorpion.
00:46:17I don't care about Stan Hansen.
00:46:19I don't care about Lex Luger.
00:46:21I only care about one person,
00:46:23and that's me and that belt around my waist.
00:46:28All right, Sid Vicious of the four horseman
00:46:31and a challenge to the world champion, Sting.
00:46:34This vicious rules.
00:46:36Let's go back to the ring.
00:46:39Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest,
00:46:43it is set for one fall.
00:46:45Introducing first in the ring, from Pecos, Texas,
00:46:49weighing 239 pounds,
00:46:52Wild Bill Irwin!
00:46:55Whoa!
00:46:56Whoa!
00:46:58And ladies and gentlemen, his opponent,
00:47:01from Atlanta, Georgia,
00:47:04weighing 218 pounds,
00:47:08Wildfire Tommy Rage!
00:47:14Tommy Rage being very cautious here
00:47:16because Wild Bill Irwin's got that bullwhip in the ring.
00:47:20Referee Randy Anderson gets it away from him,
00:47:22and Wildfire is just that, fist in fire on Wild Bill Irwin,
00:47:26misses with a big haymaker,
00:47:27and Irwin catches him right in the chest with a big knee.
00:47:31Wildfire Tommy Rage, he came out really smoking.
00:47:34Tommy Rage, former pro wrestling rookie of the year,
00:47:37the third youngest man to ever win
00:47:40the heavyweight championship of the world,
00:47:43and Rage just hip-locked Wild Bill Irwin,
00:47:45and Irwin's feet touched the mat before he went over.
00:47:48I think that's gonna prevent the disqualification there.
00:47:51A judgment call ruled a no-call by Randy Anderson.
00:47:55And he had a long way to go as he went over that top rope,
00:47:57all the way down, off the apron, onto the floor.
00:47:59Hey, Jeremy, you notice, and all you fans will notice,
00:48:02Wildfire Tommy Rage has got his patriotic tights on tonight.
00:48:05Red, white, and blue, and we want to say,
00:48:08of course, we are home bases in Atlanta.
00:48:10So many of the great fighting men and women
00:48:12have left the state of Georgia to go to the Far East.
00:48:14I'm sure many of you watching your broadcast
00:48:16have loved ones that are involved in that conflict,
00:48:19and we certainly want you to know
00:48:21that we're thinking about those men and women
00:48:23that are serving our country...
00:48:26here tonight on TBS.
00:48:30We've had great matches at Camp Lejeune, Fort Bragg,
00:48:33and we receive a lot of mail from the fighting men and women,
00:48:36especially their families.
00:48:38That's right, Jim, and we've made a lot of friends
00:48:40at those bases as World Championship Wrestling
00:48:42has been there over the years.
00:48:44We got to know a lot of them.
00:48:46We've made a lot of good friends with them,
00:48:48and as you said, our thoughts and our prayers
00:48:50are certainly with them and especially their families
00:48:52in this time of crisis.
00:48:54Fans still to come here in this segment.
00:48:56We're going to show you the new
00:48:58World Championship Wrestling top ten
00:49:00for single wrestlers and for tag teams.
00:49:02That's still to come in this segment.
00:49:04Nice move there by Wild Bill Irwin
00:49:06rolling Tommy Wildfire Rich over on his shoulders.
00:49:08Both these men are veteran competitors,
00:49:10ladies and gentlemen.
00:49:12Tommy Rich defeated the legendary Harley Race in 1981
00:49:15to become the heavyweight champion of the world,
00:49:17and as I said, the third-youngest
00:49:19world's champion of all time.
00:49:21Well, Irwin's a rough one.
00:49:23He really likes to mix it up.
00:49:25He wants to go full board just like Rich does in that ring.
00:49:27This is going to be a wild one, Jim,
00:49:29from the opening bell all the way to the finish.
00:49:31I talked to Irwin before we went on the air.
00:49:33He said, Bobby, I made the comment
00:49:35that it looked like he had lost some weight,
00:49:37dropped some pounds.
00:49:39He said he wanted to lose about 20.
00:49:41He thought it increased his quickness,
00:49:43but more importantly, his stamina.
00:49:45Well, he certainly didn't lose any power and strength.
00:49:47He proved it right there as he had Rich up
00:49:49and slammed him hard down to the mat.
00:49:51Jim, again, I'm sort of intrigued,
00:49:53as we heard earlier from Flying Brian,
00:49:55about him running that gauntlet,
00:49:57and you know that all begins on September 14th
00:49:59right here on TBS.
00:50:01On September 14th, I hope the fans will join
00:50:03Paulie Dangerously and me for that big program.
00:50:05Paulie's a smart guy, Bob.
00:50:07You know, he spent two terms at Princeton.
00:50:09He did. He really did.
00:50:11He's a smart guy.
00:50:13But those terms, of course,
00:50:15were Ford and Reagans or somebody, you know.
00:50:17Yeah, I was wondering.
00:50:19If I meant it, I thought maybe he might have meant
00:50:21he was somewhere like that he had numbers
00:50:23across his chest or something, Jim.
00:50:25So we'll be bringing you that
00:50:27on Friday night, September 14th,
00:50:29the running of the gauntlet.
00:50:31Wild Bill Irwin right off the apron.
00:50:33Forearm blow right to the back of the head
00:50:35of Tommy Wildfire Rich.
00:50:37Rich...
00:50:39originally from Hendersonville, Tennessee.
00:50:41And his theme music
00:50:43certainly is reminiscent of Nashville
00:50:45and one of its most famous suburbs,
00:50:47country music capital of the world.
00:50:49Right hands by Rich. He's a fiery competitor.
00:50:51And they were standing toe-to-toe,
00:50:53just slugging it out with those rights.
00:50:55Watch out.
00:50:57Whoa. Tommy Rich started to free himself.
00:50:59And he has. That was a great move.
00:51:01A great counter move.
00:51:03For a moment, it looked like Irwin was gonna
00:51:05catch him and stop him right in the middle,
00:51:07but he was unable to hold him there.
00:51:09Irwin planted him in the corner, though.
00:51:11Irish whips him in. Nobody home there.
00:51:13Tommy Rich goes for the hang of it.
00:51:15A vertical fast press.
00:51:17The loose fast press. And Tommy Rich
00:51:19has won this match.
00:51:21Tommy Wildfire
00:51:23Wildfire
00:51:25is

00:52:47It's a tremendous
00:52:49night of action on the Clash of Champions
00:52:51live here on TBS.
00:52:53It's still a coming action. This man,
00:52:55Stan, the Lariat Handsome. You know,
00:52:57you gotta get motivated.
00:52:59And to be motivated,
00:53:01you gotta get hungry.
00:53:03I got a bunch of kids back home.
00:53:05I got my pickup headed out
00:53:07there trying to repo in
00:53:09because I need the money.
00:53:11And the only way you get money around here
00:53:13is to go after the guy
00:53:15with the top brass. And that's you,
00:53:17Sting. And I'm after you.
00:53:19I tell you what, Sting is the champion, but the number 1,
00:53:21as we just saw in the Top 10,
00:53:23is Lex Luger, the US champion, followed by
00:53:25Ric Flair, number 2. And you were ranked
00:53:27number 6. Number
00:53:296?
00:53:31Number 6? Let me tell you about
00:53:33number 6. I've never been
00:53:356'd in anything in my life.
00:53:37I wasn't 6'd to my wife.
00:53:39I wasn't 6'd to anything
00:53:41in the world. I'm gonna come after
00:53:43you, Luger, baby. I'm gonna come
00:53:45after number 5. I'm gonna
00:53:47come after number 4.
00:53:49But I'm gonna come after you, Sting.
00:53:51And anybody in the way
00:53:53is gonna get it because I'm bringing
00:53:55the bell. 6!
00:53:576! 6!
00:53:59Jim, Bob, this guy is disgusting.
00:54:01Let's go back to you.
00:54:05Yeah, Tony, you're right. Let's go back up to Gary
00:54:07comparing the introduction of this match. Man.
00:54:09Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest
00:54:11is for one ball.
00:54:13It is for the
00:54:15Women's World Championship.
00:54:17Introducing first the challenger to my
00:54:19right from Stone Mountain,
00:54:21Georgia, weighing
00:54:23124 pounds,
00:54:25Bambi!
00:54:29And ladies and gentlemen, her opponent

00:54:39Susan
00:54:41Sexton!
00:54:45Susan Sexton from Australia
00:54:47and Bambi. What's Bambi's
00:54:49last name, Bob? Deer? I don't know, but she's a deer.
00:54:51That's D-E-A-R, Jim.
00:54:53She's a deer, all right.
00:54:55Number one contender, I understand, for the
00:54:57Women's World Championship.
00:54:59Very seldom
00:55:01do you see ladies
00:55:03wrestling here on TBS. We're so happy
00:55:05to be able to bring it to you here exclusively
00:55:07on the Clash of Champions. And don't
00:55:09forget, fans, every weekend, every Friday,

00:55:17Remember, the 14th, we start the Running of the
00:55:19Gauntlet, Saturday night, World Championship
00:55:21Wrestling, and Sunday night, the main
00:55:23event here on TBS.
00:55:25Have you ever seen anything any more
00:55:27disgusting than that Stan Hansen with all that
00:55:29tobacco? Just by nausea, just seeing
00:55:31that tobacco, Jim.
00:55:33Nice drop toehold there by Susan Sexton.
00:55:35Oh, Bambi.
00:55:37Sexton from Australia,
00:55:39as you heard.
00:55:41Grew up and
00:55:43had a good friendship
00:55:45with another native Australian great athlete,
00:55:47Jan Stevenson.
00:55:49Outstanding lady golfer.
00:55:51Nice head scissor there
00:55:53by Bambi, who's from just outside
00:55:55Atlanta, in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
00:55:57And Bob, again, we're gonna be back in Atlanta.
00:55:59That big event is on Sunday night,
00:56:01September the 23rd, and it's gonna be
00:56:03Sting Wrist Watch Night.
00:56:05Jim, that's gonna be a big night for all of the fans
00:56:07in Atlanta. As you say, Sting Watch Night.
00:56:09The first 1,000 under 14 years of age
00:56:11with a paid adult
00:56:13is gonna receive a Sting Wrist Watch.
00:56:15Man, I'd like to have one of those as a souvenir myself.
00:56:17Maybe we can get there early.
00:56:19Can you arrange that for me?
00:56:21Maybe we can hire a couple of kids for us,
00:56:23because we're not gonna pass for 14.
00:56:25No way. I didn't look 14 when I was 14.
00:56:27Boy, Bambi, very quick and aggressive.
00:56:29She's a good offensive wrestler, Jim.
00:56:31But she's gonna need all her experience and skill
00:56:33against Susan Sexton.
00:56:35Susan Sexton's got her up.
00:56:37Nice wrist lock takeover.
00:56:39Drops the leg right on the bicep area.
00:56:41I understand the winner, by the way, Jim,
00:56:43gets a dinner date with you after this.
00:56:45Hey, let me tell you something, though.
00:56:47I learned a long time ago, Jim,
00:56:49I don't think it's wise to go out with a woman.
00:56:51You gotta be really on your P's and Q's,
00:56:53a woman that can whip you.
00:56:55Well, no doubt that probably either one of them could, Bob.
00:56:57The only way I'd do that is if you were the chaperone.
00:56:59I think we'd both get in trouble.
00:57:01I'd be in trouble there, right.
00:57:03Susan Sexton sizing up Bambi here.
00:57:05Ladies' wrestling has certainly changed
00:57:07in the last years gone by.
00:57:09There's not as many active women competing
00:57:11in professional wrestling,
00:57:13and it's basically become a little bit more isolated.
00:57:15It's not as widespread as it once was,
00:57:17but the real good ones,
00:57:19like Susan Sexton, the world's champion,
00:57:21still earn a lot of money.
00:57:23They still have a lot of fans.
00:57:25They still have a lot of fans.
00:57:27They're still a champion.
00:57:29They still earn a lot of money.
00:57:31They still wrestle 250, 300 days a year
00:57:33and around the world, there's a lateral press,
00:57:35but Bambi very quick.
00:57:37Bambi's greatest asset here is probably gonna be her quickness.
00:57:39Her quickness. I don't think he's any doubt about that.
00:57:41You talk about the way that women's wrestling
00:57:43has progressed and changed,
00:57:45and it's sort of gone the opposite way,
00:57:47I think, from men's wrestling and men
00:57:49where you see the big, strong, power wrestlers,
00:57:51and women's wrestling has sort of evolved
00:57:53into the quick, aggressive athlete.
00:57:55more finesse.
00:57:55That's right.
00:57:56Perhaps that's come from their aerobic training
00:57:58and their, I know the ladies, certainly a lot of them,
00:58:00I know Bambi's one that does a lot of jogging,
00:58:03a lot of running to keep her endurance
00:58:05and to work on her endurance.
00:58:06Nice chain wrestling move.
00:58:08Dropped down, cradled a leg, got two out of it.
00:58:12You just joined us, ladies and gentlemen,
00:58:13Jim Ross and Bob Connell.
00:58:14We're coming to you live from Asheville, North Carolina.
00:58:17This is the Clash of Champions 12.
00:58:20Fall brawl, mountain madness, and still to come,
00:58:23the big showdown.
00:58:25Not only will you see Stan Hansen in action,
00:58:27the Steiner brothers, the U.S. Tag Champions,
00:58:30but Ric Flair and Lex Luger,
00:58:32the rivalry renewed for the U.S. title.
00:58:35As you say, the big showdown.
00:58:36And hopefully, Jim, what I'm really looking forward to
00:58:39is finding out who this man in the black scorpion is
00:58:42against Stan.
00:58:43Susan Sexton going up that second turnbuckle.
00:58:47Nice move there.
00:58:51Complete different style,
00:58:52different timing for the ladies.
00:58:54Elevation there by Susan Sexton.
00:58:55Both these ladies are in good athletic condition.
00:59:01Scoop slam.
00:59:03And Susan Sexton drops the elbow on Bambi.
00:59:06This may be it right here, and the Bambi kicks out.
00:59:09Had her for the count of two.
00:59:10She had that leg hook,
00:59:10but still, she couldn't hold her there.
00:59:15Inside cradle.
00:59:17One, two.
00:59:19And a reversal by the champion.
00:59:22And Susan Sexton reversed it and won it.
00:59:25Ladies and gentlemen,
00:59:26the winner and still Women's World Champion,
00:59:30Susan Sexton.
00:59:32Good show of sportsmanship by both those ladies.
00:59:35Susan Sexton with a counter wrestling move
00:59:37to retain her title.
00:59:39And Jim, as you said earlier in the roll up right here,
00:59:41it looked like Bambi was gonna be the new Women's Champion
00:59:45when all of a sudden there was the reversal
00:59:47by Susan Sexton for the win.
00:59:49The new United States Tag Team Champions,
00:59:51the Steiners, take on Maximum Overdrive.
00:59:53That is next on TBS.
00:59:55♪♪
01:00:10The wrestling fans, the following tag team event,
01:00:13it is set for one fall.
01:00:15Introducing first in the ring,
01:00:17from Minneapolis, Minnesota,
01:00:20The Hunter, The Silencer,
01:00:23Maximum Overdrive.
01:00:32Yeah!
01:00:40♪♪
01:00:47♪♪
01:00:50♪♪
01:00:53♪♪
01:00:56♪♪
01:00:59♪♪
01:01:02♪♪
01:01:05♪♪
01:01:08♪♪
01:01:11♪♪
01:01:14One more time for the United States Tag Team Champions.
01:01:17♪♪
01:01:20This will be a very physical match, I can assure you.
01:01:24And ladies and gentlemen, their opponents,
01:01:26from Kingsway, Michigan,
01:01:28weighing in at 555 pounds,
01:01:33they are the United States Tag Team Champions,
01:01:38Rick Steiner, Jack Steiner,
01:01:41The Steiner Brothers.
01:01:45They're raising the roof here in Asheville, North Carolina
01:01:48for The Steiner Brothers,
01:01:50who defeated the outstanding combination
01:01:52of Jim Cornette's Midnight Express in the Meadowlands
01:01:55in East Rutherford, New Jersey,
01:01:57on Friday night, August the 24th.
01:01:59What a match it was, and any time you can say
01:02:02that you've defeated the Midnight Express,
01:02:04you can say you defeated one of the great teams in wrestling.
01:02:08Well, The Steiners are two of the most physical
01:02:10and talented athletes in the sport of professional wrestling.
01:02:13Fans, before this one gets started,
01:02:15you know the NWA will be in Nassau, the Bahamas,
01:02:18on Saturday night, September the 29th.
01:02:20I want to say hello to Bertram and Judy Armley,
01:02:24who live in Nassau,
01:02:25big fans of world championship wrestling.
01:02:27I'm sure they'll be in the stadium there in Nassau
01:02:31on Saturday night, the 29th of September.
01:02:33Hello to Bertram and Judy Armley.
01:02:35We appreciate you watching our broadcast.
01:02:37And before the battle gets really physical in there, Jim,
01:02:40Saturday, October 27th,
01:02:41is gonna be another great night for all of our pay-per-view
01:02:45fans around the country from Chicago.
01:02:47Big Halloween havoc.
01:02:48That's gonna be on Saturday, October 27th.
01:02:50We'll talk more about that as Scott Steiner
01:02:52tries to modify Boston Crab there.
01:02:56I got it!
01:02:57I think that man in the ring is Hunter.
01:03:01Come on, Scotty!
01:03:02Very muscular individual.
01:03:03Both these teams, you can tell,
01:03:05spend a lot of time in their weight room.
01:03:07But when you talk about animals,
01:03:08you talk about men that are strong,
01:03:10that possess every wrestling skill known to man.
01:03:13You've got to start with the Steiners.
01:03:15Well, they're so experienced.
01:03:16They started out at young ages.
01:03:17They were both collegiate champions
01:03:19at the University of Michigan.
01:03:20They've got tremendous wrestling backgrounds,
01:03:22but they've also got that body power
01:03:24that you need to go along with it, Jim.
01:03:26Modified wrist lock there by Scott Steiner,
01:03:29the inventor and master of the Frankensteiner.
01:03:32And maximum overdrive.
01:03:34A young team from Minneapolis, as you heard,
01:03:36here to make a name for themselves.
01:03:38Quite frankly, they have nothing to lose
01:03:40in this situation.
01:03:41Everything to gain by upsetting the Steiners
01:03:44in this non-title event
01:03:45here on TBS in the class of champions.
01:03:48Talk about physical teams,
01:03:49and we talked about the Steiners being so physical.
01:03:52You know, Rick's favorite pet, of course,
01:03:54is the pit bull.
01:03:55And he's like a pit bull in the ring, too, Jim.
01:03:58He's just about as deadly.
01:03:59The pit bull, when he bites,
01:04:00he's got about two inches of power.
01:04:02The pit bull, when he bites,
01:04:03he's got about 2,000 pounds of pressure
01:04:05in that jaw of his.
01:04:07And I tell you, Rick is just as determined
01:04:09when he gets in the ring.
01:04:10He's the most tenacious, determined individual
01:04:14in the ring, just like that pit bull.
01:04:17Maximum overdrive.
01:04:18Trying to take it to Scotty Steiner,
01:04:20who blocks it.
01:04:21He says, uh-uh, I'll show you how to do it.
01:04:23The Beal, right out of the corner.
01:04:26The Beal named after the second world's champion
01:04:28the NWA ever had, Frank Beal,
01:04:31who defeated Frank Gotts.
01:04:32That was back in 1906.
01:04:34But that move, the Beal,
01:04:35was named after the second world's champion
01:04:38the NWA ever had, and that being Frank Beal.
01:04:41Now, you had to research that,
01:04:42because I know you wasn't around at that time.
01:04:44No, I did my homework.
01:04:47And Hunter there, again,
01:04:49complaining that his tights were pulled.
01:04:53The Steiners never complain to the officials.
01:04:55One lesson to kids out there that are watching,
01:04:58I know a lot of these youngsters
01:04:59getting ready to play football.
01:05:00Football season is upon us, obviously.
01:05:03Don't argue with the officials.
01:05:05They're not going to beat you.
01:05:06They're not going to lose the game for you.
01:05:08Play the game the way you were taught
01:05:09by your coaches and your parents to play.
01:05:11And always display good sportsmanship.
01:05:13The Steiners, of course, do that.
01:05:14They've done that all through their careers.
01:05:16They almost look like, to me,
01:05:17they're out of the same mold.
01:05:19Jenna, they're both about the same size.
01:05:20Boom!
01:05:21There's a Steiner line.
01:05:22In stereo.
01:05:23Maximum overdrive.
01:05:24And that'll put them in park.
01:05:29They're proof positive
01:05:31that good guys do not finish last.
01:05:36I tell you, these are two big guys.
01:05:38But there you see the pit bull like big brother.
01:05:43This awesome brother, Scotty.
01:05:45And they are ready for anything,
01:05:47especially now that they're the number one contenders
01:05:50for the world tag title.
01:05:51They are ready for a rematch
01:05:53with Ron Simmons and Butch Reed
01:05:55and Theodore R. Peanuthead Long, Doom.
01:05:58And I tell you, if I was Doom,
01:05:59I'd be watching my rear.
01:06:01The Steiners, I'd hate to have a team
01:06:04like the Steiners after me.
01:06:05And they're gonna pursue,
01:06:06they're gonna pursue Doom
01:06:08until they're the world champions.
01:06:11Tag made.
01:06:13And here comes the silencer.
01:06:15The bigger of the two.
01:06:20Big man, he's gotta be 6'4 or 5".
01:06:22Yeah, but Scott doesn't care.
01:06:24It doesn't matter to Scott.
01:06:25The bigger they are, the harder they fall with him.
01:06:28He likes them that way.
01:06:29Silencer with a knee to the midsection.
01:06:31Follows with a couple of big,
01:06:32clubbing right hands and another one.
01:06:35Scott Steiner in the leadoff position
01:06:36as he usually is in these matches.
01:06:38Nice reversal of the Irish whip.
01:06:40In there, chest first.
01:06:41Back to that suplex.
01:06:45Snap there.
01:06:46Takes him over.
01:06:47And tags in big brother.
01:06:50Watch out now.
01:06:51The pit bull is rearing and ready to go.
01:06:54New tattoo, you notice, on that left arm.
01:07:00Down on all fours.
01:07:02I don't think Silencer knows
01:07:03exactly quite how to handle this.
01:07:07Our good friend Dennis Brent is at ringside,
01:07:10the editor of the wrestling wrap-up,
01:07:13the official publication
01:07:14of World Championship Wrestling.
01:07:16And Jim, you can get the wrestling wrap-up
01:07:19in any of the arenas
01:07:20wherever you see World Championship Wrestling.
01:07:25Silencer sends him in.
01:07:27Good elbow there.
01:07:28This is a big man.
01:07:29As I said, he's in that Lex Luger size,
01:07:31about 6'5", maybe 275, 280.
01:07:37Missed that close eye.
01:07:39Nice leapfrog there by the big man.
01:07:40Up and over goes Rick Steiner.
01:07:42Cody, he's out of there.
01:07:44The power slamming,
01:07:45Rick Steiner never left his feet.
01:07:52Tag made.
01:07:53Now here comes the hunter.
01:07:56Hunter of maximum overdrive.
01:07:59When you look at the Steiners,
01:08:00you know they're big.
01:08:01You know their size.
01:08:02You see all the tremendous muscles,
01:08:04but you just don't believe
01:08:05they've got all of that power there.
01:08:08Good Lord, what a Steiner line.
01:08:12The view-shatters in the mountains
01:08:13can hear that one.
01:08:14He's checking to see if he's still got his head.
01:08:17Scotty Steiner out.
01:08:19Could you believe a DDT from the top?

01:08:46The DDT from the top rope.
01:08:49Watch it here as Scott Steiner gets up.
01:08:51Rick's got him on the shoulders.
01:08:53Nobody can get up
01:08:54from such a tremendous blow as that.
01:08:56Still to come, Stan Hanson,
01:08:57the C-Man, Flair, Luger,
01:08:59the Black Scorpion Stinger.

01:09:21♪♪♪
01:09:26♪♪♪
01:09:31♪♪♪
01:09:36Introducing first,
01:09:37the bad man from Florida, Texas,
01:09:40at 306 pounds,
01:09:43Stan Valerian Hanson.
01:09:48Not very happy that he was ranked number 6
01:09:51in the top 10 rankings,
01:09:53Stan Valerian Hanson.
01:09:54Bob, there's one thing you can do about it.
01:09:56If you don't like being ranked 6,
01:09:58you beat people.
01:09:59That's right, you win,
01:10:00and by that wild look in his eye,
01:10:01that's what he's here for.
01:10:03A real tough competitor.
01:10:06I can tell you that right now.
01:10:07Gary Capetta wisely left the ring.
01:10:11Hanson waiting on the C-Man.
01:10:14♪♪♪♪
01:10:19♪♪♪♪
01:10:24And ladies and gentlemen,
01:10:25his opponent from Minneapolis, Minnesota,
01:10:29weighing 251 pounds,
01:10:33the C-Man!
01:10:35The C-Man attacked by Stan Hanson,
01:10:38landed on his feet
01:10:39and got right back in the ring.
01:10:41C-Man knows Hanson is legendary
01:10:43and he's taking it outside.
01:10:44And if he takes you outside, Bob,
01:10:46that's in his backyard
01:10:47or his pasture, if you will,
01:10:49and that's where he does his damage.
01:10:50Well, Hanson is an anything-goes type of competitor
01:10:53who tries to hurt his opponent
01:10:54any way he can.
01:10:56Look outside of the ring.
01:10:58He's wild already,
01:10:59gone completely out of his head.
01:11:01Hanson ramming the C-Man
01:11:03into the ram play here.
01:11:06Big Stan Hanson.
01:11:07Referee Mike Atkins out there,
01:11:09headbutt by Hanson.
01:11:11That's where the referee
01:11:12is contemplating very seriously
01:11:15disqualifying Hanson.
01:11:17He totally disdains the structure,
01:11:20the rules, authority.
01:11:23The rule book is just a piece of paper
01:11:27as far as he's concerned.
01:11:30Well, we knew he was gonna come out
01:11:31and shoot smoking, and he really did.
01:11:33He's been on the attack
01:11:34ever since he got here on Z-Man.
01:11:36I tell you, Jim,
01:11:37there are bears in the woods
01:11:38that are tamer than this guy.
01:11:41Hanson, a great high school athlete
01:11:42in the state of Texas,
01:11:43went to West Texas State,
01:11:45played linebacker and center there,
01:11:47was drafted by the Baltimore Colts
01:11:49and played center for the Colts
01:11:50when they were in Baltimore.
01:11:53Big elbow drops here.
01:11:54One of the highest paid
01:11:56and most feared competitors
01:11:57around the world,
01:11:58especially in Japan.
01:12:00Z-Man's gotta figure out
01:12:01some way to get a breather here
01:12:02just long enough to regroup
01:12:04and get himself back together.
01:12:06Hanson was not very happy
01:12:07at being ranked number six
01:12:09in the top ten rankings,
01:12:10as we mentioned,
01:12:11and guys that are ranked
01:12:13one through five
01:12:14better keep their eye on this man
01:12:16because he wants a championship.
01:12:18Matter of fact,
01:12:19Lex Luger stands in the way
01:12:20of a lot of people
01:12:21before they get the sting.
01:12:22I understand Lex Luger
01:12:24and Tony Schiavone
01:12:25are standing by in our locker room.
01:12:27There you see Tony.
01:12:28If you can hear us.
01:12:29I can hear you, Jim.
01:12:30Can the package make any comments
01:12:32about Stan Hanson?
01:12:33Well, he's right here.
01:12:34He's almost right before his match,
01:12:36and, you know, Stan was upset
01:12:37that he was ranked number six
01:12:38with a come right after you,
01:12:39Lex Luger.
01:12:40There's a lot of top contenders
01:12:41out there, Tony.
01:12:42They gotta work their way
01:12:43up the ladder.
01:12:44Right now, there's one thing
01:12:45on my mind, one thing only.
01:12:46The guy who's done it
01:12:47time and time again
01:12:48in the big match,
01:12:49and that's Rick Flair.
01:12:50Stan Hanson,
01:12:51if you earn your shot,
01:12:52you'll get it.
01:12:53Okay, his concentration's
01:12:54right with Flair right now, Jim.
01:12:55Thanks very much, Tony,
01:12:56and indeed it should be.
01:12:57And Stan Hanson...
01:13:00being very dominant here,
01:13:02perhaps the biggest
01:13:03understatement of the night.
01:13:04Dominant is his style.
01:13:06He is a brawler.
01:13:07He can wrestle,
01:13:08as you can see right there,
01:13:09building that suplex,
01:13:10but he'd rather brawl with you.
01:13:12He'd rather see just how tough
01:13:13you really are.
01:13:14He wants to break in
01:13:15little small pieces,
01:13:16if he can, Jim.
01:13:18And as you said,
01:13:19Lex Luger very wise
01:13:20not to look ahead.
01:13:21In any big game,
01:13:22you don't look ahead
01:13:23to the next opponent.
01:13:24You gotta take them
01:13:25one at a time.
01:13:26Great series of offensive moves
01:13:27by the Z-Man
01:13:28with those drop kicks.
01:13:29On top for the lateral press,
01:13:30the Z-Man and Flying Brian
01:13:31in the top ten
01:13:32in the tag team ratings,
01:13:34but this is a major step
01:13:35away from that.
01:13:36And some of that football block
01:13:38catching Z-Man coming in.
01:13:40This is the man
01:13:41that invented the clothesline,
01:13:43as it's called,
01:13:44but he's called it the lariat.
01:13:45He was the very first
01:13:46with that move right there
01:13:48and that big cannon,
01:13:49the lariat,
01:13:50almost beheaded the Z-Man
01:13:51here on TBS at the Clash.
01:13:54Ladies and gentlemen,
01:13:55here's your winner,
01:13:57Sam Boles and Sam.
01:14:01It's probably the most
01:14:02imitated move in wrestling,
01:14:04the clothesline.
01:14:05Hanson calls it the lariat,
01:14:06and here's a look at it.
01:14:08And nobody lends it
01:14:09with a force
01:14:10and the power it does,
01:14:11Hanson,
01:14:12just about takes the head
01:14:13of Z-Man off with a lariat.
01:14:15Fans, when we come back,
01:14:16Tony Schiavone will be back
01:14:17in the locker room.
01:14:18He'll talk to Lex Luger
01:14:19about the Luger-Flair rivalry,
01:14:21and still to come,
01:14:22Ric Flair, Lex Luger,
01:14:23the U.S. title,
01:14:24still to come on TBS.
01:14:27♪♪
01:14:42Okay, everybody,
01:14:43we are live now
01:14:44back at the dressing room area.
01:14:45Still to come,
01:14:46that matchup for the U.S. title,
01:14:47Lex Luger and the Nature Boy,
01:14:49Ric Flair.
01:14:50Certainly the matchup
01:14:51between Luger and Flair,
01:14:52one of the greatest rivalries
01:14:53in the history of the NWA.
01:14:55But as Bobby Jim told you
01:14:56at the top of the program,
01:14:57right now, Lex Luger
01:14:58is not the hunter.
01:14:59He is the hunted.
01:15:00He is the champion.
01:15:01Let's take you back
01:15:02to WrestleWar this year
01:15:03from Greensboro.
01:15:04Lex Luger and Ric Flair
01:15:05going toe-to-toe.
01:15:08Good job.
01:15:10This is one of Flair's
01:15:11favorite things here.
01:15:12Watch him.
01:15:13He'll go ahead,
01:15:14beg you off, beg you off.
01:15:15He'll kick you
01:15:16and catch you
01:15:17with that quick move.
01:15:18I know him like a book.
01:15:20There, Lex Luger
01:15:21with his back
01:15:22with a football tackle.
01:15:24For the big man.
01:15:25Oh!
01:15:26Luger again.
01:15:28Oh!
01:15:31He just shot through him.
01:15:32Threw him.
01:15:33Threw him away.
01:15:35That dog.
01:15:40Luger went for the pin,
01:15:41but Flair's under the bar.
01:15:43Oh!
01:15:45Flair's back,
01:15:46which was broken
01:15:47some years back
01:15:48in an airplane crash,
01:15:50may be his Achilles' heel.
01:15:53It might be, Jim Ross.
01:15:54I'll agree with you on this.
01:15:56Something's gonna be bothering him.
01:15:58Work on that back.
01:15:59That's where Luger needs to go to.
01:16:03That's a well-known fact
01:16:04that that's one of Ric Flair's weaknesses
01:16:06is in that back
01:16:07because of that particular reason.
01:16:11Oh!
01:16:13Uh-oh, he didn't face the big man.
01:16:15Look at Flair.
01:16:16Look at his face.
01:16:17Okay, Lex Luger,
01:16:18I'm sure seeing those chops
01:16:19brings back some memories.
01:16:20It's gonna be quite a confrontation
01:16:23You know, Tony Schiavone,
01:16:24you can't take anything away
01:16:25from the Nature Boy, Ric Flair.
01:16:26We're just moments away.
01:16:27The butterflies are here.
01:16:28The adrenaline's flowing,
01:16:29but man, he's done it time and time again,
01:16:32year after year.
01:16:33He's shown he's probably
01:16:34the premier wrestler of all time.
01:16:36He's after me this time.
01:16:37I've always been chasing him.
01:16:38I've got something that you want, Nature Boy.
01:16:41You want this so bad,
01:16:42you can taste it
01:16:43because it's your stepping stone.
01:16:44I know that.
01:16:45To get this thing in that world
01:16:46that you cherish so much,
01:16:47you need this to be the number one contender.
01:16:49Well, Nature Boy,
01:16:50it goes a long ways
01:16:52for a couple long, hard years.
01:16:54A lot of bad blood between us.
01:16:55It's all coming to a head
01:16:56right here, right now.
01:16:58Okay, Lex Luger,
01:16:59will you prepare?
01:17:00Are you prepared any differently
01:17:01now that you're the champion
01:17:02instead of going after Ric Flair
01:17:03for this match?
01:17:04Man, I don't prepare any different
01:17:05from anybody any time, any match.
01:17:07I prepare the same way each time.
01:17:08My concentration's there.
01:17:09I'm ready to go.
01:17:10Full steam ahead.
01:17:11No holding back.
01:17:12I'm pumped.
01:17:13I'm ready, Tony.
01:17:14Okay, good luck to you.
01:17:15Lex Luger and Ric Flair
01:17:16for the U.S. title.
01:17:17It's next on

01:20:53with swelled anticipation here.

01:21:11and Luger wants to wrestle
01:21:12a power match.
01:21:13It's gonna be a classic.
01:21:15You've got two tremendous
01:21:16competitors.
01:21:18What can you say about Flair
01:21:19that hasn't been said?
01:21:20We mentioned six times
01:21:21world champion,
01:21:22determined to make it seven.
01:21:24Five times he's been
01:21:25the wrestler of the year.
01:21:26Jimmy's considered
01:21:27the greatest NWA champion
01:21:29of all time.
01:21:30Throw all that out the window,
01:21:31though,
01:21:32when he's in against
01:21:33a competitor like Big Lex Luger,
01:21:356'5", strong, powerful,
01:21:37former world tag team champion,
01:21:39all-around great athlete.
01:21:41Luger and Flair
01:21:42will test his strength.
01:21:43Flair very cautious here,
01:21:45but he was on the ropes
01:21:46and came with a kick.
01:21:47He knows he cannot lock up,
01:21:49and match strength
01:21:50with strength with Luger.
01:21:51Ooh, a big chop there.
01:21:54And a mother.
01:21:55And Luger,
01:21:56that granite-like chest,
01:21:58back in the nature boy
01:21:59to the corner,
01:22:00but Flair catches him
01:22:01coming in quickly.
01:22:02Did not allow Luger
01:22:03any offense there.
01:22:05But he's got some offense here.
01:22:07The arm's extended.
01:22:09Military press slam
01:22:11for the total package.
01:22:13Luger is a thinking man's wrestler.
01:22:16Graduated from college
01:22:17with a 3.78 grade average.
01:22:19I was gonna say,
01:22:20he was a smart one, Jim,
01:22:21as you say, 3.78,
01:22:22but I don't think either one
01:22:23of them are gonna have
01:22:24any surprises for the other.
01:22:26They're no strangers
01:22:27to each other in that ring, Jim.
01:22:28There's been bad blood
01:22:29between them
01:22:30ever since Luger
01:22:31arrived on the scene.
01:22:32I think then
01:22:33that his presence
01:22:34was an immediate threat
01:22:35to Flair,
01:22:36and the dislike
01:22:37has really just continued
01:22:38to grow from the time
01:22:39Luger arrived.
01:22:40It was interesting,
01:22:41that piece of videotape
01:22:42that we showed
01:22:43illustrating the rivalry
01:22:44between Flair and Luger
01:22:45from WrestleWorld,
01:22:47you heard Terry Funk
01:22:48and I make the comment
01:22:49that if Flair
01:22:50has an Achilles heel,
01:22:51it may be his back.
01:22:52Because it was broken
01:22:53in an airplane crash
01:22:54in 1975.
01:22:55He made a miraculous recovery,
01:22:57and after that airplane crash,
01:22:59just a few years later,
01:23:00Flair won his first
01:23:01World's Heavyweight Championship,
01:23:03the first of six
01:23:04that he would go ahead
01:23:05and win.
01:23:06Jim, that was a dark day.
01:23:07I'll never forget the day
01:23:08of that airplane crash,
01:23:09as a matter of fact.
01:23:10I remember that very well.
01:23:11You know, I tell you, though,
01:23:13you talk about Ric Flair.
01:23:15Hold it!
01:23:16He's got Luger
01:23:17in the corner.
01:23:19Oh, man!
01:23:22Nobody talks like Flair.
01:23:24Nobody.
01:23:25But look at the package.
01:23:27Here's a start,
01:23:28I'll tell you that.
01:23:29Flair up again!
01:23:30Luger's gonna go to work
01:23:31right away in the back.
01:23:33Flash Flair.
01:23:34They're about
01:23:35seven or eight feet high.
01:23:40Luger gets some momentum.
01:23:42Toes down to mentor ball.
01:23:44Up and over.
01:23:47What impact from Luger.
01:23:52Shut up!
01:23:54Here comes Luger!
01:23:56With another clothesline!
01:23:59Flair, crowd is into it!
01:24:01First he clotheslined him
01:24:02out of the ring,
01:24:03then he clotheslines him
01:24:04down on the floor,
01:24:05and now they're at each other
01:24:06up on the floor
01:24:07out of the ring.
01:24:09Flair raked the eyes
01:24:10there for a moment.
01:24:12But Luger held on.
01:24:14Flair thinks he's got him down,
01:24:15but Luger standing...
01:24:18Little too early to gloat, yeah.
01:24:20Don't be gloating now, man.
01:24:27Ah!
01:24:28The third time!
01:24:29He's over his head!
01:24:30The third time!
01:24:31And again, down on his back!
01:24:33Luger goes for the elbow!
01:24:35High elevation,
01:24:36but Flair, the veteran,
01:24:37moves out of the way.
01:24:40Flair's back's already
01:24:41bothering him now.
01:24:42Yeah, and he's staggering
01:24:43around the ring,
01:24:44but you know,
01:24:45it's hard to tell
01:24:46just how bad he's hurt
01:24:47and what condition he's in.
01:24:49Jim, you know,
01:24:50a lot of time,
01:24:51the condition of the athlete
01:24:52and your opponent
01:24:53is in his eyes.
01:24:54You know, if you watch
01:24:55his head or his body
01:24:56or his hands,
01:24:57he can fake you out of time,
01:24:58just like a body fake
01:24:59or a head fake
01:25:00in a basketball game
01:25:01or a football game.
01:25:02But if you watch his eyes,
01:25:03you can see the hurt,
01:25:04the confusion in it,
01:25:05and the fear sometimes
01:25:06that you may find
01:25:07in the opponent.
01:25:09All the great ones
01:25:10know how to read the audience.
01:25:13Whoo!
01:25:14Oh!
01:25:15Look at that!
01:25:16Out of the clothesline,
01:25:17out of the corner.
01:25:18He took two thunderous chops
01:25:19from Flair,
01:25:20and they came out
01:25:21of the corner.
01:25:22And he caught Flair
01:25:23right in the shoulder.
01:25:24He may have dislocated
01:25:25Flair's shoulder there, Bob.
01:25:27Flair is hurt.
01:25:28He's definitely down
01:25:29and he's definitely hurt.
01:25:30The referee's
01:25:31stepping in there.
01:25:32They may stop him right here.
01:25:33Flair's shoulder,
01:25:34as you say,
01:25:35it may be out.
01:25:36He's hurt.
01:25:37Flair's left shoulder.
01:25:38His shoulder may be suffering.
01:25:40I think he is saying,
01:25:42Is he saying,
01:25:43yes, Jim?
01:25:44I think he's saying,
01:25:45he's gonna stop it.
01:25:48Oh, Flair's sacrificing.
01:25:50Flair's sacrificing.
01:25:53He lulled Luger
01:25:54into that false sense
01:25:55of security
01:25:56and now passes him
01:25:57to the side.
01:25:58And the dirtiest player
01:25:59in the game
01:26:00follows him out.
01:26:02Definitely the dirtiest player.
01:26:04Playing possum on Luger.
01:26:06Flair is no stranger
01:26:08to the United States title.
01:26:09He won his first one
01:26:10in 1977
01:26:12from Bobo, Brazil.
01:26:14Flair's first U.S. title reign
01:26:16was from Bobo, Brazil in 77.
01:26:19He's won the U.S. title
01:26:20on four occasions.
01:26:22So adding his four U.S. title reigns
01:26:25with his six world title reigns
01:26:27gives him the magic number of 10.
01:26:29Nobody has ever,
01:26:30ever surpassed that.
01:26:32Well, and that sucker punch
01:26:34and that sucker move,
01:26:35the way he suckered Luger
01:26:37has definitely turned
01:26:38the tide of battle.
01:26:39Now we got it going
01:26:40between him and the referee,
01:26:41but Jim,
01:26:42I definitely think
01:26:43up to that point,
01:26:44Luger was landing
01:26:45the harder blows.
01:26:46He was wrestling
01:26:47a much more higher impact match
01:26:48than was Flair
01:26:49up to the point
01:26:50when Flair really suckered him.
01:26:53Flair showed his intelligence.
01:26:56He's got the best education
01:26:57that money can buy.
01:26:59Graduated,
01:27:00attended a private school,
01:27:02Wayland Academy.
01:27:04He was a high school state champion.
01:27:06Played football at 265.
01:27:08Played for the University of Minnesota
01:27:10at 265,
01:27:11about 25 pounds less
01:27:13than he weighs right now.
01:27:19Flair now the master.
01:27:20I said before,
01:27:21he's got a PhD
01:27:22inside that squared circle,
01:27:24and right now,
01:27:25Luger is receiving
01:27:26a little homework.
01:27:27He's being tested.
01:27:28He's smelling it right now.
01:27:29He's smelling that title.
01:27:30He knows he's got Luger
01:27:31in trouble,
01:27:32and you better believe
01:27:33he's not gonna back off.
01:27:35He's gonna stay right on Luger.
01:27:40Luger in his third reign
01:27:41as U.S. champion.
01:27:47This time,
01:27:48Luger goes down.
01:27:51I defy anyone
01:27:52in any federation,
01:27:53anywhere in wrestling,
01:27:54to match that impact.
01:27:56This is the N.W.A.
01:27:58That man in the ring,
01:27:59and that man getting up
01:28:00is what it's all about.
01:28:01It's pure athletics.
01:28:05It's man-on-man.
01:28:08Well, nobody can stand up
01:28:09to the tremendous
01:28:11amount of force
01:28:12that Flair has
01:28:13in those moves,
01:28:14and here he comes again.
01:28:15Watch out.
01:28:16Right in front of us.
01:28:24Flair trying to grab a chair.
01:28:27He's in danger
01:28:28of getting disqualified here.
01:28:31Flair is a man-possessed, Bob.
01:28:35He wants to be careful.
01:28:36He's so close
01:28:37to that championship, Jim.
01:28:38He doesn't want to throw it away
01:28:39now with a disqualification.
01:28:41I'm sure the fans are saying,
01:28:42why is he so insane
01:28:44about becoming
01:28:45the U.S. champion?
01:28:46It's because
01:28:47you heard Luger.
01:28:48He hit the nail
01:28:49right on the head.
01:28:50The number one contender
01:28:51for the world title
01:28:52is the U.S. champion,
01:28:54and Flair wants
01:28:55that rematch with Sting.
01:28:56He wants to be
01:28:57the number one contender.
01:28:58If he beats Luger,
01:28:59that's what's gonna
01:29:00exactly happen.
01:29:01Right now,
01:29:02this match,
01:29:03it's the number one man
01:29:04versus the number two contender.
01:29:06Luger, number one.
01:29:07Flair, number two.
01:29:09Ric Flair living
01:29:10for that chance
01:29:11and that opportunity
01:29:12to be world heavyweight champion
01:29:13for the seventh time.
01:29:17Gone to the wheels.
01:29:23When you talk about ultimate,
01:29:24this is the ultimate.
01:29:26The man in the black tights
01:29:27is the ultimate.
01:29:30All he needs
01:29:31is one opening, Jim,
01:29:32and when he gets it,
01:29:33he's on the attack.
01:29:40Luger's knee,
01:29:41his leg,
01:29:42is bothering him
01:29:43while working on him.
01:29:45We know what he's
01:29:46working for.
01:29:48That's a figure four.
01:29:49He hits him with a chop.
01:29:52He goes downstairs
01:29:53to kick that knee.
01:29:54That's what the horseman
01:29:55did to Sting.
01:29:57They completely demolished
01:29:59Sting's knee.
01:30:00Had to have it
01:30:01completely rebuilt.
01:30:02He's got some six months
01:30:03and that could happen
01:30:04right here to the
01:30:05United States champion, Jim.
01:30:06If he gets that knee weakened
01:30:07like he's working on it
01:30:08and like he's trying to do,
01:30:09and then he gets him
01:30:10into figure four,
01:30:12you know,
01:30:13Luger may be facing
01:30:14a career-threatening injury here.
01:30:16Luger trying to fight back.
01:30:19The U.S. champion
01:30:20is a fighter.
01:30:22The fans,
01:30:23man, they are up in arms here
01:30:25supporting Wes Luger.
01:30:26Luger's relying
01:30:27on his right hand.
01:30:28The right hand's
01:30:29taking Flair back
01:30:30to the corner.
01:30:31But Flair found him
01:30:32in the eye.
01:30:34And they both go down.
01:30:35Out near the center
01:30:36of the ring.
01:30:37Luger, at leg,
01:30:38finally gave way under him.
01:30:42Luger blocks it.
01:30:43That's strength, fans.
01:30:45Nice move.
01:30:47Underneath he goes.
01:30:49Both arms cupped.
01:30:50Look at the physique.
01:30:51Look at the strength
01:30:52on Luger.
01:30:53One, two,
01:30:54and a hit!
01:30:56Fifteen minutes gone
01:30:57by in the match.
01:30:58Fifteen minutes gone by.
01:31:01Man, this is...
01:31:03Hey, I know.
01:31:04Ross, you say
01:31:05this is a physical match
01:31:06too much,
01:31:07but this is
01:31:08the physical match.
01:31:10Look at Luger's chest.
01:31:11It's already bruised.
01:31:13The blood has rushed
01:31:14to the surface there.
01:31:16Chopped by Flair.
01:31:20But now Luger
01:31:21turns the table.
01:31:26Unbelievable
01:31:27that a match
01:31:28could keep this intensity
01:31:29for as long as it has
01:31:30since the opening bell.
01:31:32Luger holding the knee,
01:31:33but he did execute
01:31:34the clothesline.
01:31:36Luger crawling now.
01:31:37To Flair.
01:31:38He's on top.
01:31:39One, two,
01:31:40and then Patrick got
01:31:41two and a half.
01:31:45Even the winner
01:31:46may have to be carried
01:31:47out of the ring
01:31:48in a match like this.
01:31:54I tell you, Bob,
01:31:55for our new fans,
01:31:56I'm gonna say
01:31:57a statement right here.
01:31:59The longer the match goes,
01:32:01the stronger Flair
01:32:02is gonna get.
01:32:03Yes, sir.
01:32:04And fans,
01:32:05the reason for that
01:32:06is that nobody in the sport
01:32:07has his cardiovascular
01:32:08conditioning,
01:32:09but nobody perhaps
01:32:10has Luger's upper body
01:32:11strength either.
01:32:12Luger simply
01:32:13powering out.
01:32:15Jim, you're 100% right
01:32:16because time after time
01:32:17after time,
01:32:18we've seen
01:32:19Ric Flair wrestle
01:32:20for 60 minutes.
01:32:21He's just as strong
01:32:22after 60 minutes
01:32:23as he was
01:32:24at the opening bell.
01:32:25Flair going up top,
01:32:26but the champion's got him.
01:32:29Slams him off the top
01:32:30over halfway
01:32:31across the ring.
01:32:33What strength by Luger.
01:32:36The U.S. champion now.
01:32:37Back on his feet,
01:32:38back on the offense.
01:32:41Flair upside down
01:32:42in the corner,
01:32:43and Luger co-signs him
01:32:44right down the apron.
01:32:46And this crowd,
01:32:47they are loving it.
01:32:49And we hope
01:32:50you're loving it too
01:32:51watching that TBS
01:32:52live as it happens
01:32:53from Asphalt.
01:32:54It just doesn't get
01:32:55any better than this.
01:32:56Reaction.
01:32:57Non-stop.
01:32:59The fourth power slam.
01:33:02I should say
01:33:03military slam.
01:33:04He extends those arms
01:33:05in the military
01:33:07press position.
01:33:09And again,
01:33:10Flair,
01:33:11his back may be out here.
01:33:13Luger's got him up.
01:33:14There's a power slam
01:33:15by Lex Luger.
01:33:17And the power match.
01:33:18I said in the very beginning,
01:33:19he wanted to wrestle
01:33:20a power match.
01:33:21And he did.
01:33:22And it's certainly
01:33:23been that kind of match.
01:33:24Jimmy, talk about
01:33:25that military press
01:33:26when he gets
01:33:27Luke Flair
01:33:28into the air.
01:33:29Luger's 6'5".
01:33:30He's got him
01:33:31about 9' up in the air
01:33:32when he powers him
01:33:33down to the mat.
01:33:37Luger's got Flair
01:33:38up in the bear hug.
01:33:40A very good move
01:33:41for Luger.
01:33:43Now setting Flair
01:33:44up in the turnbuckle.
01:33:46He may gonna be suplexing
01:33:47out of the corner.
01:33:49Luger's got him
01:33:50for the superplex.
01:33:54You'll be able
01:33:55to hear the impact
01:33:56of this hold.
01:33:59It echoes throughout
01:34:00the jam-packed
01:34:01Asheville City Center.
01:34:03And Flair's back
01:34:04has taken a pounding.
01:34:05On the back.
01:34:07The one spot
01:34:08Flair wanted to protect
01:34:09more than any other hold.
01:34:11He took the easy way out.
01:34:14Luger was less
01:34:15than half a count away.
01:34:17Luger's got him
01:34:18less than half a count away
01:34:20from winning it.
01:34:21But Flair got his foot
01:34:22on the bottom rope
01:34:23to stop the count.
01:34:24Luger thought he had won
01:34:25and he thought he had
01:34:26the count of three.
01:34:29This is the type
01:34:30of intensity you'll see
01:34:31at Halloween Havoc
01:34:32October 27th
01:34:34on pay-per-view.
01:34:40Referee trying to get
01:34:41Nick...
01:34:42Oh!
01:34:43That was a cheap shot.
01:34:44That was a real
01:34:45cheap shot by Ric Flair.
01:34:46He says he's the dirtiest
01:34:47in the game.
01:34:49Luger missed that
01:34:50clothesline.
01:34:51Oh!
01:34:52Oh!
01:34:53They're up and over.
01:34:54They're both over.
01:34:56They both went over
01:34:57the top rope
01:34:58to the floor.
01:34:59But Luger's on top
01:35:00fist and fire.
01:35:03Get out of it!
01:35:07Luger slammed
01:35:08into the steel barricade.
01:35:13Luger nails Flair.
01:35:14Wait a minute.
01:35:15What was that?
01:35:16I don't understand,
01:35:17Hansen.
01:35:18What's Hansen
01:35:19doing in here?
01:35:20Hansen...
01:35:21That's what happened
01:35:22to the disqualification.
01:35:23But Hansen
01:35:24wanted to make the point
01:35:25and he's trying
01:35:26to make the point
01:35:27on the number-one
01:35:28contender
01:35:29for the world title.
01:35:31Hansen
01:35:32is brutalizing Lex Luger.
01:35:35He's got that big
01:35:36cavity on that big rope
01:35:37now around the throat.
01:35:38Jim, as you say,
01:35:39he was mad.
01:35:40He was irate
01:35:41at being number-six
01:35:42in the rankings.
01:35:44Hansen trying
01:35:45and Lex Luger with a bull rope.
01:35:52Out of humiliation, Hanson annihilating Lex Luger.
01:35:58The number one contender for the world title
01:36:00will retain the US championship,
01:36:03but Sean Hanson has made his point,
01:36:05and fans, we'll be right back.
01:36:07We'll go to Tony Schiavone in the locker room
01:36:09when we come back.
01:36:10We'll be right back after this.
01:36:25We've come to the moment we've all been waiting for.
01:36:27Who is the black scorpion?
01:36:29Moments before right now,
01:36:30staying in the black scorpion and a due battle,
01:36:32we do have these comments sent to us
01:36:35from the black scorpion.
01:36:36Who is this man?
01:36:38Let's listen in.
01:36:40We've both waited, and now the time is at hand.
01:36:50Sting, if you can beat me, I'll tell you and all the world who I am.
01:37:00If you beat him, he'll tell you and all the world who he is.
01:37:05Well, hopefully I'm gonna do that.
01:37:07Make it or break it, time for me.
01:37:09Taking this really serious.
01:37:10There's no goofing off now.
01:37:11I wanna know who this guy is, so I think I'm gonna go to the ring right now and get it
01:37:14straight.
01:37:15Okay, Jim Bob, he is concerned.
01:37:17The moment is now.
01:37:19You're right, Tony.
01:37:20This is the one we've all waited for, ladies and gentlemen.
01:37:22And there's a look at the Black Scorpion.
01:37:23Let's get his introduction from Gary Michael Capetta.
01:37:27Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is for the World Heavyweight Championship.
01:37:36It is set for one fall.
01:37:40Introducing first, the challenger, the Black Scorpion.
01:37:52Everyone has speculated, Bob, including you and I, just who this man is.
01:37:59And by the, obviously, I can't tell now, he doesn't resemble, he doesn't have a limp,
01:38:05he doesn't have any, obviously, when he disrobes, perhaps we'll know more.
01:38:11But he's certainly a little eerie walking to the ring.
01:38:14He's taking his time.
01:38:18I guess he's hinted very strongly, Jim, that he's somewhat forgotten the past, it seems.
01:38:39And ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, from the University of California,
01:38:44from the University of Arizona, he is the World Heavyweight Champion,
01:38:54Sting!
01:38:58And Sting looking very intently into the, trying to look into the eyes of the Black Scorpion.
01:39:04Jim, he's trying to get some clue when he looks at him as to who he might be.
01:39:09Sting won the world's title on July 7th at our last pay-per-view spectacular,
01:39:14the Great American Bash in Baltimore.
01:39:17On that night, he defeated the legendary nature boy, Ric Flair.
01:39:21But on this occasion, completely different circumstances.
01:39:24We all know the abilities and the background of Ric Flair.
01:39:29We know nothing about the man in the mysterious dark robe and mask
01:39:33who is standing very stoically.
01:39:37Jim, he's been playing this mind game with Sting.
01:39:39And I tell you, I think he's been very effective at it
01:39:42because he certainly got the world champion upset.
01:39:45And who would not be when you have someone after you
01:39:48and you have no idea who it is, where he might be, or where he even comes from?
01:40:01Very, very enthusiastic crowd.
01:40:03But this is the one that they came to see.
01:40:06Sting's first world title defense on national television
01:40:11since winning the championship, as we said, on July 7th.
01:40:15Jim, you know, Sting is such a clean-cut individual.
01:40:18And we've talked to him.
01:40:20Of course, a number of us have tried to find out something about this man.
01:40:23But Sting has no idea what he could possibly have done in his past
01:40:29that would instill this kind of hatred in someone.
01:40:31The Black Scorpion now attacking Sting.
01:40:33The Black Scorpion looks to be in outstanding condition.
01:40:36A real specimen in the upper body.
01:40:39But the champion of the world is fighting back.
01:40:41And he's fighting back with vengeance.
01:40:43He doesn't know this man's tendencies, his strength, or his weaknesses.
01:40:46But part of his strength, obviously, is his conditioning.
01:40:49The challenger is in outstanding condition.
01:40:52But still, Bob, can you tell who it might be?
01:40:54I have no idea, Jim.
01:40:56And looking at him, I don't think I...
01:40:58I can't put him with anyone.
01:41:00I can't put the face and the body together on any individual.
01:41:07Sting going downstairs now.
01:41:09Separating himself from the masked man.
01:41:12I can't tell by his movements, either.
01:41:14You try to watch his movements in the ring
01:41:16to see if you can get some hint of who he might be.
01:41:21Sting, very volatile here.
01:41:23His championship and perhaps his career
01:41:26are on the line in this matchup.
01:41:28That's true, Jim, but I tell you,
01:41:30he showed us what he was made of
01:41:32and the determination and the hard work and the courage
01:41:34it took for him to come back from that severe injury
01:41:38that he had at the hand of Ric Flair.
01:41:40You know, a lesser man would have called it quits.
01:41:42And not only did he come back,
01:41:44but he came back and won the championship.
01:41:46Black Scorpion with that foot right to the throat
01:41:49of the world's heavyweight champion.
01:41:53Jim Ross and Bob Cutler at ringside.
01:41:56Live from Asheville, North Carolina, here on TBS.
01:42:04The Stinger now has been punished.
01:42:07Nothing fancy, but very sadistic by the Black Scorpion
01:42:11and the mysterious black man.
01:42:13He has no tattoos that I've seen,
01:42:15no outstanding marks,
01:42:18no scars or anything that would identify him
01:42:21because, quite obviously,
01:42:23he is a proficient professional wrestler.
01:42:25Has to be.
01:42:27The way he's gone into the ring,
01:42:29the way he's been able to work against Sting
01:42:31and the body that he's got in him, Jim,
01:42:33the muscular upper body.
01:42:35Black Scorpion nails him from behind.
01:42:42Kevin Ryan here.
01:42:44Sting's got him out.
01:42:46He scooped him up and dropped him on the steel barricade.
01:42:49Sting dropped him on the railing there
01:42:52and nails him with a hammer
01:42:54right to the back of the head.
01:42:58What we're all waiting to see is who this man is,
01:43:01and, Jim, we heard him earlier.
01:43:03If Sting beats him,
01:43:04he's gonna tell Sting and the world who he is.
01:43:06I talked to Sting, Bob, about 7.30 tonight,
01:43:09and he says,
01:43:10Rossy, if I get the chance
01:43:12somewhere during that match,
01:43:13I'm going for that mask.
01:43:14I've got to know who is the Black Scorpion.
01:43:16I've got to know.
01:43:18This is the night,
01:43:19and it all comes down to the next few minutes.
01:43:22Our cameras are taking you right inside the ring
01:43:24for the sights and sounds of the Classic Champions
01:43:27here on TBS,
01:43:28but I have yet to hear the Black Scorpion utter a sound.
01:43:36Sting with a kick to the solar plexus.
01:43:39Again, scoops up the Black Scorpion.
01:43:41The intensity here,
01:43:42you could cut it with a knife.
01:43:44He's going for the mask.
01:43:45He's going for the mask right here.
01:43:47He said he would.
01:43:48He's going for the mask,
01:43:49and the Black Scorpion reacts very violently
01:43:52toward that move
01:43:53and rakes the eyes.
01:43:59Black Scorpion now, both hands,
01:44:01a blatant chokehold.
01:44:05The Black Scorpions are now standing looking at him.
01:44:08Jim, I just started to say,
01:44:09he has really taken it to the champion.
01:44:11He hasn't backed up.
01:44:12He's been on the offensive.
01:44:13He's been after him since the opening bell.
01:44:15It looks like, you know,
01:44:16he knew Sting wanted to know,
01:44:18but the Scorpion is also very intent.
01:44:24Sting with a right,
01:44:25got that right hand from the Black Scorpion.
01:44:29Sting now on the apron.
01:44:31Straight right hand by the masked man,
01:44:34and he has come to fight Sting.
01:44:36There has not been a great deal of wrestling,
01:44:38but a lot of brawling and fighting-type tactics
01:44:41by the Black Scorpion.
01:44:42I think the Scorpion would not only like to beat him,
01:44:44but he would like to hurt him if he can.
01:44:46He would like to injure him,
01:44:47and I think if he feels like he does that,
01:44:50Sting will never forget who he is.
01:44:52He's got him up on that rampway
01:44:55and slams him right outside,
01:44:57puts his foot right into the throat
01:44:59of the world's heavyweight champion
01:45:01and the mysterious Black Scorpion,
01:45:03a man who said, fans, in 1986,
01:45:06he was a man from Sting's past.
01:45:09He's from California.
01:45:11But we still don't know if Sting's going for the mask again.
01:45:14Trying to unlace it from behind,
01:45:16and the Black Scorpion, again,
01:45:18reacting and getting back to the ring.
01:45:26Dropkick by the champion.
01:45:28And the champion's got him reeling now.
01:45:34Sting and his Earth Patrol,
01:45:36his kids for ecology.
01:45:38I'm sure they're watching by the thousands.
01:45:41As he tears the Tarzan lockout,
01:45:44and it automatically stimulates a reaction from the fans.
01:45:47He may be near to unmasking him now.
01:45:55Sting now, he's just fighting fire with fire.
01:45:58He knows he's in for a brawl here.
01:46:00A real street fight, black environment.
01:46:02As the Black Scorpion, again,
01:46:04buries the kick to the midsection.
01:46:07And the world's champion from Venice Beach, California,
01:46:10is on the ropes, literally,
01:46:12at the hands of the Black Scorpion.
01:46:14You're not knowing anything about your opponent.
01:46:16I don't care how great you are in any sport
01:46:19when you don't know who your opponent is
01:46:21and what it's like.
01:46:22It's hard to prepare for him.
01:46:24It's hard to get ready for a match like that.
01:46:26It's not like the NFL,
01:46:28where the Red Hot Falcons know they're gonna play Houston,
01:46:31or they know they're gonna play the Lions.
01:46:33Sting did not have the opportunity
01:46:35to scout.
01:46:39Sting reverses the hip to the ropes.
01:46:42He's got him up!
01:46:46Sting is weakened,
01:46:47but he still extends the arms
01:46:49and slams the Black Scorpion.
01:46:52The masked man now, feeling the pain.
01:46:57And the Stinger up top,
01:46:58a high-risk move by the champion of the world.
01:47:02That pays off!
01:47:03A cross-body press!
01:47:04This may be all one-two,
01:47:06but he's powerful, Bob.
01:47:08He powered out.
01:47:09Oh, man, yeah.
01:47:10Son of a gun, I thought that was it.
01:47:17Snapmare by the masked man.
01:47:21Drops the knee right to the throat area,
01:47:24in the chest.
01:47:25One, two.
01:47:27A championship of the world.
01:47:29The undisputed heavyweight championship.
01:47:31Anybody can have a belt made with a world champion,
01:47:34but none of them can say
01:47:35the third champion dates back to 1905,
01:47:38and that's what the NWA can say.
01:47:43A number of great athletes
01:47:44have worn that championship belt, too, Jim,
01:47:47down through the years.
01:47:48A lot of regional champions.
01:47:50Only one world champ.
01:47:51He's the guy with the pink boots on,
01:47:53the black tights,
01:47:54and just clothesline, the Black Scorpion.
01:47:58Intensity in Sting's face.
01:48:02Here comes that Stinger.
01:48:03Yes!
01:48:04He got him!
01:48:05The end may be near!
01:48:07Lateral cross, one, two, three!
01:48:09He got him!
01:48:10Now is he gonna take the mask off?
01:48:12Yes, sir.
01:48:13Let's find out who the Black Scorpion is, Bob.
01:48:16Right, Jim, at this point,
01:48:18he's gonna unmask.
01:48:19Sting says, take it off.
01:48:21Let's see who you are, guy.
01:48:22He's going for the laces.
01:48:24We're gonna find out right here.
01:48:26He won the match with the Stinger.
01:48:28He's got another mask on.
01:48:34He's got another mask on.
01:48:35What the heck is that?
01:48:36He said if he lost...
01:48:38Wait a minute, Jim.
01:48:39What's that coming down the ramp?
01:48:40Look!
01:48:41Bob, look at the back.
01:48:42In the back, back there.
01:48:43What a...
01:48:44Hey, look at Sting looking.
01:48:45Jim, who is that?
01:48:46What is that?
01:48:49My God.
01:48:50That's the Scorpion.
01:48:51That's the Scorpion.
01:48:52My God.
01:48:53That's the Scorpion.
01:48:54That's the Black Scorpion.
01:48:55That's the Black Scorpion.
01:48:56Who in the heck was he wrestling?
01:48:58It was a man...
01:49:00Look at Sting.
01:49:01He's stunned.
01:49:02Total astonishment
01:49:03by the champion of the world.
01:49:05Is that the Black Scorpion?
01:49:08The Black...
01:49:09I thought he was wrestling.
01:49:10There's the Black Scorpion on the ramp, boy.
01:49:13What is going on here?
01:49:16And look at the stare down.
01:49:17Jim, we're just as stunned.
01:49:19Everybody in the arena
01:49:20is just as stunned as Sting is.
01:49:22Sting just had one heck of a match.
01:49:24He won the match to retain the world title.
01:49:27But there is the Black Scorpion.
01:49:29The Black Scorpion has sent a mercenary.
01:49:32He's playing mind games
01:49:34with a heavyweight champion of the world.
01:49:38Boy, he's a pro at playing mind games.
01:49:40I bet you for sure.
01:49:45Fans, we're gonna be back.
01:49:46We still got time.
01:49:47I'm gonna talk to Sting.
01:49:48Don't go away.
01:49:49We'll be right back on TBS.
01:49:55And we're back here live,
01:49:56ladies and gentlemen, from Asheville.
01:49:57I think we can all say congratulations
01:49:59to the Stinger
01:50:00for retaining the world's heavyweight championship.
01:50:04However,
01:50:06it was a great match.
01:50:08Quite obviously,
01:50:09by the looks of the man
01:50:10that was on the rampway,
01:50:12you did not beat the Black Scorpion in the ring.
01:50:14The guy on the rampway
01:50:15has to be the Black Scorpion.
01:50:17What's going on?
01:50:18What kind of mind game
01:50:19is this man attempting to play?
01:50:23I feel about the same way I did
01:50:25just going into this match.
01:50:26I came here to accomplish something.
01:50:28I did not accomplish it.
01:50:30Still don't know who he is.
01:50:32I don't know why he wants me.
01:50:34I don't know why he can't just fight me
01:50:36man-to-man,
01:50:37take his mask off,
01:50:38or whatever it is.
01:50:39Just get down and dirty
01:50:40in the middle of the ring.
01:50:41I don't know what his deal is.
01:50:42I know that you have looked
01:50:43at the videotape of his interviews
01:50:45time and time again.
01:50:46He says 1986 is the key year.
01:50:48California is the state.
01:50:50You started wrestling in 86.
01:50:51We know you're from California.
01:50:54Wait just a second.
01:50:55We may not get to the bottom of this now.
01:50:57Here comes Sid Vicious.
01:50:59Now wait just a second.
01:51:01Let me tell you something, Steve.
01:51:03You think you got some problems
01:51:05with the Black Scorpion.
01:51:06I'm the man you've got problems with
01:51:09because I want that.
01:51:14Sorry for the interruption.
01:51:15Sorry for the interruption, champ.
01:51:19Sid,
01:51:21I got enough on my mind as it is
01:51:23just trying to figure out
01:51:24who the Black Scorpion is, okay?
01:51:26If you want a championship match against me,
01:51:28talk to the championship committee.
01:51:30I got nothing against it.
01:51:31But right now,
01:51:32I'm thinking nothing but Black Scorpion
01:51:34until I find out who he is.
01:51:35Thanks, Sting.
01:51:36I said I'm talking to you, Sting!
01:51:42Look out from behind!
01:51:44Sid Vicious is attacking!
01:51:47Sting, we're bombed!
01:51:49And the Rampers will go out of the ring.
01:51:51Sid Vicious from behind,
01:51:53attacking Sting,
01:51:54hitting him now with a championship belt.
01:51:57Sting had his back to him.
01:51:58Have you lost your mind?
01:51:59Shut up, Jim Ross!
01:52:01I want you people to know something.
01:52:03I'm gonna be the next world champion
01:52:06because Sid Vicious rules the world!
01:52:14Hey, Sid Vicious,
01:52:15I'd like to get out of the ring here,
01:52:16if you don't mind.
01:52:17We've only got a few seconds left here
01:52:19on the Clash of Champions.
01:52:20Bob, it's been a great program,
01:52:22and we haven't heard the last, obviously,
01:52:24of the Black Scorpion and Sting,
01:52:27but Sid Vicious has really asserted himself.
01:52:29Fans, for our whole crew,
01:52:30for Tony Schiavone, for Missy Hyatt,
01:52:32for Bob Cottle, Gary Capetta,
01:52:34I'm Jim Ross.

01:52:37and we'll see you again right here on TBS
