00:00Welcome back everyone.
00:08It is Amelia.
00:09I hope you are fine.
00:10King Aegon II Targaryen is left for dead at the end of House of the Dragons Season 2 Episode
00:164, raising major questions about his fate and what happens next.
00:20After two years of waiting, the Dance of the Dragons explodes into action in this installment
00:25helmed by Game of Thrones veteran Alan Taylor, whose credits include Baelor and Beyond the
00:30Wall.
00:31Krysten Cole and Aemon Targaryen's plans come to fruition, albeit with a few hiccups.
00:36The target is Rook's Rest, the seat of Lord Staunton, who sits on Rhaenyra Targaryen's
00:41small council.
00:42Things go zorry, however, when the king himself shows up on his dragon, Sunfyre.
00:47The result is a dramatic clash between three dragons, Sunfyre, Vhagan, and Melys, that
00:52very certainly leaves Melys and her rider, Rhaenys Targaryen, dead.
00:57But Aegon's own fate is less concrete in House of the Dragons Season 2 Episode 4's ending.
01:02Although the end of the episode doesn't confirm it either way, it's reasonable to assume King
01:07Aegon did not die in House of the Dragons Season 2 Episode 4.
01:11Although the wounds he suffered definitely could have been fatal, indeed, that all three
01:16dragonriders weren't burned to ash seems a minor miracle.
01:19There are a few reasons why Aegon is likely still alive, the biggest of which is that,
01:24well, he doesn't die at this point in the book.
01:27The show has made several changes to George RR Martin's fire and blood, of course, including
01:32the fates of characters, for instance, Laena Velaryon is still alive, as far as we know,
01:38when he dies in the book.
01:39However, the circumstances are still broadly the same, whereas killing Aegon at this point
01:44wouldn't just be changing his fate, but rewriting the entire story.
01:48To remove him at this point would be like killing Tyrion Lannister halfway through Game
01:52of Thrones, such is his importance to the story and ongoing civil war.
01:57It's also a golden rule of TV that if we don't get explicit confirmation of a death, it probably
02:02means it didn't happen.
02:03Aemond is moving toward the body, seemingly ready to finish the job, which further indicates
02:08Aegon is still alive.
02:10That's not to say he won't be horribly wounded, but he will at least be breathing.
02:14Aegon is seriously injured at Rook's rest in fire and blood.
02:18The fight leaves him with several broken bones and severe burns on half his body, which
02:22leave him incapacitated for around a year.
02:25Sunfyre is also badly injured and unable to fly for a long time.
02:30In Aegon's stead, Aemond becomes Prince Regent.
02:33He sits on the Iron Throne and wears the Conqueror's Crown, finally becoming the ruler, if not
02:38king, that he's long wanted to be.
02:40However, Aegon does eventually recover enough to resume his duties, although he carries
02:45the signs of his injuries afterward.
02:48Since this story exists in the book then, despite the differences in how it happened,
02:52House of the Dragon season 2 will presumably be doing the same thing.
02:56Expect Aemond to assume control and Aegon to be mostly out of action for a few episodes.
03:01New episodes of House of the Dragon season 2 release Sundays at 9 pm ET on HBO and Max.
