00:09HBO's House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 1 concludes with the tragic death

00:14of Jehari's Targaryen with Helaena being given the brutal choice of pointing out the

00:19correct child to Blood and Cheese.

00:21Ahead of the prequel show's release, the most dreaded impending House of the Dragon

00:25moment was Blood and Cheese, which stood out as one of the most agonizing and cruel

00:30scenes in George R. R. Martin's Fire and Blood book.

00:34While House of the Dragon Season 2 makes several important changes to how Blood and Cheese

00:39commences in the book, one detail that remains is a harrowing choice Helaena must make about

00:44her children's fates.

00:45On the orders of Daemon Targaryen, Blood, a city watchguard, and Cheese, a rat catcher

00:50employed by the Crown, sneak into the Red Keep intending to kill Daemon Targaryen as

00:55revenge for the death of Lucis Velaryon.

00:58When they can't find Daemon, they move to the chambers of Helaena Targaryen, where they

01:02intend to kill the young Jehari's Targaryen, the son and heir of King Aegon to Targaryen.

01:07Unable to tell Jehari's and his twin sister Jehaera apart, Helaena is ordered to point

01:12out the boy.

01:13She does so honestly and Blood proceeds to decapitate Jehari's, with Helaena swiftly

01:19fleeing to Alicent's chambers with Jehaera in her arms.

01:22Helaena's decision is seemingly based on her fears for Jehari's future and his inevitable

01:27moral corruption as the heir to the Iron Throne.

01:30Earlier in the episode, Aegon sought out Jehari's to begin training him, with Helaena remarking,

01:35what if he doesn't want to be king?

01:37Helaena being a dragon dreamer also indicates that she may have some insight into Jehari's

01:42future, perhaps sensing that he would live an unhappy life being twisted by the guidance

01:47of Aegon and duties to the Iron Throne.

01:50Of course, in the larger narrative, Jehari's needed to die in order for Aegon.

01:55Overall, the realm is torn by the tragic loss of Helaena Targaryen, who was deemed so innocent
