00:00Welcome back everyone it is Amelia I hope you are fine.
00:09The House of the Dragons season 2 trailers have shown a glimpse at Aegon II's dragon
00:14revealing an unfortunate harsh reality after several years of waiting.
00:18The show's first season saw events building up toward a Targaryen civil war called the
00:23Dance of the Dragons.
00:24The two factions, Blacks and Greens, are represented by Rhaenyra Targaryen and Aegon
00:29II, both of whom believe themselves the rightful ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.
00:34Aegon was primarily characterized by his apathy and irresponsibility in season 1, but the
00:40appearance of his dragon indicates he could see some action.
00:43The House of the Dragons season 1 ending saw war become inevitable when Aemon Targaryen
00:48and his dragon Vhagar killed Lusais Velaryon.
00:51With season 2's reduced count of 8 episodes and the Dance of the Dragons beginning, the
00:56upcoming conflict should see dragon combat happen more frequently, and thus, more dragons
01:01will be introduced.
01:02Season 1 already saw a significant number compared to Game of Thrones, but there are
01:07still several dragons that have yet to be shown, from those bonded members of the Targaryen
01:12family to the untamed dragons on Dragonstone.
01:15All the dragons in House of the Dragon, Aegon's dragon, Sunfyre, is known explicitly for its
01:20vibrant gold color and is noted in Fire and Blood as being the most beautiful dragon in
01:25the world.
01:26Especially after the epic but relatively non-colorful dragons in Game of Thrones, the hype around
01:32Sunfyre made it one of the most anticipated in House of the Dragon.
01:36The HBO series succeeded in demonstrating variety with Caraxes, Syrax, and Vhagar, but
01:41making a dragon stand out for being especially beautiful is an immense challenge while maintaining
01:47the show's tone.
01:48The Game of Thrones universe is undoubtedly fantasy, but the TV shows have a reputation
01:53for gritty, almost realistic tones.
01:56While it's hard to make dragons realistic, there's a stark difference between having
02:00a black-scaled dragon like Drogon and a glittering gold dragon like Sunfyre.
02:04The design they ultimately ended up with for Sunfyre looks excellent, but it doesn't live
02:09up to the book's description or stand out with much significant beauty.
02:13However, it's important to remember Fire and Blood is a fictional historical text,
02:18so certain elements being exaggerated to fit the historians' narratives makes sense.
02:23House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal explained the strategy in Sunfyre's design,
02:28saying,
02:29I think it was incumbent upon us to try to rise and meet that challenge, but doing so
02:33in a way that didn't seem like we were making a dragon from a different show.
02:37A fantasy dragon, for lack of a better word.
02:40Audiences still haven't seen a clear look at Sunfyre in the trailers and will likely
02:44have to wait until House of the Dragon season 2 to see him.
02:48Regardless, toning down the book's appearance is an understandable decision.
