00:00All right, everyone, welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots Beat podcast
00:25here on the CLNS media network presented by our wonderful friends over at GameTime and
00:30PrizePix.
00:31It is Brian Hines back as always with Alex Barth to break down day 18, a lot of days,
00:38but day 18 of Patriots training camp.
00:40We're almost done.
00:41We're almost through training camp.
00:44Beautiful day in Foxborough today as well.
00:46It's football weather and full force.
00:49And that's what kind of practice it was that we're starting off talking about the weather.
00:52Yeah, seriously.
00:53It was it was funny last night because it was kind of like this, too.
00:56I went outside right around now or recording at six o'clock for anyone not listening live.
01:02I went out to take my dog out for a walk and I'm like, smells like football weather out
01:06here.
01:07And then I get back and I open Twitter and first tweet Alex Barth football weather.
01:11So we're almost there.
01:13It's funny.
01:14I was doing the same thing, literally went out for a run and I got outside and I was
01:18like, oh, weather, football.
01:19We can literally smell it.
01:21It's right around the corner.
01:22We're getting there again.
01:24It was that kind of practice today, too.
01:26It felt like, you know, Gerard Mayo was talking about a hybrid week as they're still in the
01:31final stages of evaluations here in the last few days till roster cuts.
01:37But they're also starting to game prep for Washington, a little bit of Cincinnati, too.
01:40So practice today kind of had a vibe of like what you would imagine.
01:44We don't get to watch regular season practices, but what you would imagine a regular season
01:48practice is where you have scout team offense, scout team defense, they're working off cards
01:53as you prepare for the other team.
01:55So that was kind of just the format of practice.
01:57We still saw some, you know, competitive sevens, full team drills, and we'll start, of course,
02:03with the quarterbacks.
02:04Gerard Mayo said again this morning, it's still a competition.
02:07He did kind of go back to Jacoby is QB one.
02:11He also put a time frame on this that they are going to make this final decision probably
02:15Monday or Tuesday.
02:17He'll tell us Monday or Tuesday, but in the building, they will know they're starting
02:21quarterback by Monday or Tuesday.
02:23It sounds like after the final preseason game and right around roster cuts there.
02:28But out of practice today, Jacoby Brissett still led off all the team periods.
02:34He still looks like the presumed quarterback one, but Drake May did take a few snaps from
02:40David Andrews and that top offensive line after Jacoby Brissett.
02:44So I think it was three total snaps with David Andrews, which is how we kind of measure
02:48what the starters are when they're out there.
02:50Now they were all runs.
02:51We didn't get to see much, but that's more than he has all camp, right?
02:55He had that one jog through period with Andrews the other day, but these felt maybe a little
03:00bit more real.
03:01So do you think this is really them maybe leaning into more of a competition than we've
03:06seen or is what do you think's going on with Megan and just a few reps there with the starters?
03:12Yeah, I don't know.
03:14Look, I was on Felger and Maz earlier and they obviously made a big deal about it.
03:17I called it a half measure.
03:19Felger called it a waste of time.
03:21I'm not necessarily going to say he's wrong.
03:24Interpreted how you want, but look, Tron Mayo talked about earlier this week for Drake
03:29made to be ready to start.
03:30He has to build chemistry.
03:31He has to build confidence with the top unit.
03:34Being out there with the starting offense is how he's going to do that.
03:38He's not going to do it in the film room.
03:40He's not going to do it in the VR simulator.
03:41It's got to be on the practice field.
03:43So there is, you know, when you're going through run checks and stuff, that is certainly
03:48a, you're growing, you're getting better, but you can also throw the ball.
03:52He used to work with the starting wide receivers, go through pass, you know, no setting the
03:56pass protection, things like that.
03:57So it's a step, it's definitely a big step, but it's also a baby step because I guess
04:04how I'd explain it.
04:05If you're somebody who's just looking for continued signs of progress, today was a good
04:10day.
04:11If you're somebody who's looking for him to start sooner rather than later, it didn't
04:15mean much.
04:17If you're somebody who's looking for him to start week one, you should have already given
04:21up frankly.
04:22But today was another indication.
04:23Like there's two practices left and we're just now getting a, him doing handoffs with
04:28David Andrews.
04:29He's, he's not going to be there in time.
04:31He's not, I guess that doesn't mean they can't start them, but it would go against the criteria
04:36they've laid out for starting him.
04:38He still doesn't look like a quarterback competition, none of that, but it did happen.
04:42It is notable.
04:43Yup.
04:44And I think he, he even mentioned after practice, he spoke to us today.
04:49He said like that first preseason game in Carolina, he went in there and he was kind
04:53of like, Oh, what's up DA.
04:55You know, David Andrews, I haven't really taken a snap with you much.
04:57So this is going to be interesting doing it in game action.
04:59Right.
05:00So there just hasn't been much work between them.
05:02And he also said like, I'm number two, if something happens to Jacoby, like I'm up,
05:07so we got to get these reps.
05:08So I think that's probably important to get him some, at least time with David Andrews.
05:13But the fact that it was just, you know, three or four plays and they were all runs probably
05:17doesn't seem like he's really pushing for a competition based on how the snaps.
05:21But would you say if it was just based off their play, I thought it was another good
05:25day for Dre kind of up and down for Jacoby.
05:28Would you still say their play has signaled that maybe this should be more of a quarterback
05:33competition?
05:34Yes, I would.
05:35I would.
05:36I think he should have been picked once today.
05:37Probably should have been picked twice.
05:38All that second one, you can put some on Jayvon Baker and we can get to him.
05:43The first pick was, it was a miss.
05:44I mean, it's the accuracy.
05:45That's his biggest issue right now, or may, may it was, was solid six and nine and team
05:52drills as best throw was a drop by pop Douglas tried to catch a pass one handed that he probably
05:56didn't need to catch one handed.
05:58Could he use two hands?
05:59But I think that's what maybe makes it all the more frustrating for some people.
06:04And I don't know about you, Brian.
06:05Did he sound frustrated after practice about the situation?
06:10I mean, he was definitely a little, I don't want to say short, but, um, I don't know.
06:18It just, it, it, it felt like his tone changed a little bit after practice and the way he
06:22was talking about it.
06:23I don't know.
06:24I didn't really pick it up in live time.
06:25I have to go back and watch it.
06:27It's funny.
06:28I didn't either.
06:29It was hearing it back that I noticed it.
06:30So maybe if you listen again, it is tough to notice those things in real time.
06:34I know where you're coming from.
06:35Definitely.
06:36So maybe, uh, going back and listen to that, something, was there one answer that kind
06:40of stood out or was it just the total kind of, um, just the tone, the tone in general,
06:46I would say he, I don't know if we have the transcript yet that I can find specifics.
06:49I remember the general, I don't want to, so I'm paraphrasing here, but talking a lot when
06:54he was asked about being the starter in a week, one starter, there was a lot of talking
06:58in the past tense.
06:59You know, he said, Jacoby's done a good job.
07:01Jacoby's had a good camp, almost felt like reserved to, even though they're still saying
07:08it's an open competition reserved to maybe saying, yeah, it's, it's over.
07:14You know, maybe he knows it's over, even if they're not, it's over.
07:17I will say his, like the way he talked about it, like he said, Jacoby's ran with the ones
07:22like he seems to know he was acting like a quarterback who knows he's not going to start
07:26week one almost in a way.
07:28So, and even if you go back to like, when he first got drafted, he was on, I think he
07:34was on EEI, maybe even when he first talked to us and we all asked him, like, is his goal
07:40to start week one?
07:42And he was like a hundred percent, like, that's what I want to do.
07:44That's what I'm going into camp.
07:46And today I think Curran, Tom Curran asked him, like, will you be disappointed if you're
07:51not the starter?
07:52And he kind of answered it like, I'm just going to try to help the team any way I can,
07:57right?
07:58Whether that's starting or helping Jacoby behind him, like there was just a little shift
08:02there that maybe seems like he knows, like things are trending, that he's not going to
08:06be the week one starter there, but I don't know if it was up to you.
08:12If Jacoby seems like Jacoby's week one, where do you think Drake kind of slides in there
08:17in the regular season?
08:18I've been kind of pinpoint on week five now for a few weeks.
08:22I think that seems like a smooth landing point.
08:26I've been pinpointed on week one for a while, but you know, it's going to be Jacoby.
08:29It looks like, but I think week five makes a lot of sense.
08:32You come back with two home games, you avoid a gauntlet on the road early.
08:36You only asked to play that 12, 13 game college season.
08:39You get time for the offensive line to hopefully kind of settle down and we can talk about
08:43some moving parts on the offensive line as well.
08:45But is there a timeframe that makes sense to you right now, assuming Jacoby starts week
08:50one where you'd like to see Drake maybe slide in there to the starting role, because it's
08:55going to happen at some point this year, it, a red shirt year looks really tough to
08:59envision right now.
09:00Like he should be out there, uh, at some point.
09:03So is there a time that makes sense for you?
09:05You talk to Evan at all today that you just gave like word to word, he gave on, we were,
09:10we were talking, um, it was funny.
09:13When did Elliot Wolf speak a Sunday, Sunday, we were talking before Sunday and we're like,
09:18we have the exact same take on, you literally word for word the same, no, but down to like
09:23the length of the college season and everything's like, I write back, I don't know if you were
09:28listening to catch 22 this morning, but that's essentially what you did.
09:30Thanks for tuning in.
09:31Uh, I know.
09:32I see.
09:33You got to listen to me enough.
09:34I don't blame you at all.
09:35You got to listen to me doing these.
09:36Why would you listen to me for another two hours?
09:37Um, yeah, I, I, I'm coming around like week five or six.
09:40Maybe if you feel like you need one more week, it's Miami and Houston, both at home.
09:45I don't love the idea of his first start being in London, but depending on the travel schedule,
09:49you can maybe sell me on it.
09:51Um, I heard that way Thursday, I think.
09:54So if they leave Thursday, then it's probably only a, however they cut it, whether they
09:58practice Thursday, then leave, or they leave late on Thursday and don't practice Friday,
10:02it's going to be a two practice week.
10:03So I, I don't love it, uh, but I five or six to me is, is, is exactly in the right window.
10:09It gives you time to set up the offensive line.
10:12It gives you a little extra preparation because look, all right, so at this point he's not
10:15starting with one and we both agree on that or he shouldn't, it's just, he hasn't had
10:19enough time working with the top offense.
10:21Even if he individually is ready, he's not going to have any chemistry with the line.
10:24He's not going to have chemistry with the receivers.
10:26It's a bad situation.
10:27So that's week one.
10:28You're not going to one in Dunjic over set.
10:31It's just a bad look for a team that really can't telegraph bad looks to players right
10:36now.
10:37Brandon, are you?
10:38They can't be doing that.
10:39All right.
10:40Now you go week three, the short week, you're not going to start them for the first time
10:43on a short week.
10:44That doesn't make sense.
10:45And it's also against a really good defense on the road in the jets.
10:48Then you got to go all the way across the country.
10:50They might leave early for that one.
10:51That might also be a short practice week, but you go all the way across the country
10:54to play the Niners of the best defense in football.
10:57Then you come back for Miami week five.
10:58So the way I look at it, you use, cause you have a short week, week three into week four
11:06is actually a long week with the Thursday night game.
11:08So you have some extra time where you can get Jacoby verset fully prepped for San Francisco
11:13and start getting Drake may really involved with the ones.
11:18I do it a little bit the whole time, but you really start getting him involved there.
11:22Maybe even if it's a blowout in San Francisco, he places for snaps late in that game.
11:27Give him, give him a taste, you know, dip the toe in, and then you come back, you start
11:31getting ready for Miami and you have him as the full-time starter makes all the sense
11:36in the world to me that it's week five.
11:37And again, maybe if you're not quite there yet, you play him some in week five, you should
11:41play week five, you play him some in week five, and then he gets to start in week six,
11:46but he has proven, I think, to this point that he is the better quarterback and there's
11:52going to be pressure from the locker room.
11:54Maybe not right now, maybe not week one, but it's going to start to build a Chico verset
11:58continues to play this way.
12:00I said it before camp, the goal for Drake may this summer was not to win the starting
12:04job.
12:06The goal for him was to close that window, shorten that gap and put pressure on the coaching
12:11staff.
12:12So when it does become a conversation, they're pressured into making the move sooner rather
12:16than later.
12:17I would say Drake may has accomplished that.
12:20Now it's up to the coaching staff.
12:22Like I said, this unfiltered as earlier, the questions with Drake may or not about ability.
12:27It's about the timeline and about the, um, the process of naming him the starter.
12:34That is where the questions are now.
12:35And that's obviously more on Gerard Mayo, Alex van Pelt, maybe Elliot Wolf based on
12:40what Gerard Mayo said today before practice.
12:43That's more on the coaching staff.
12:44Now the onus on the coaching staff, Drake may has done his part.
12:48Now it's up to the coaching staff to figure out how to do it.
12:51So what would yeah.
12:53Week five, I think makes a ton of sense again.
12:55What would do Kobe Bursett have to do in those four months, whether it's record wise or weeks
13:00do right.
13:01What'd you say?
13:03Four weeks, four weeks.
13:04Yeah.
13:05I say four months.
13:06Yeah.
13:07Those four December.
13:08We're not talking about that.
13:10It's not Drake made by December things I've gone, well, I'll say either horribly wrong
13:15or horribly right.
13:16Right.
13:17You were going to ask me, what was your cover set?
13:18Need to do to keep the job when play well and win if the team's winning, nobody's going
13:24to question it.
13:25Oh, I mean the idiots will, but for the most part, if the team's winning, people will sit
13:30there and say, yeah, you don't touch it.
13:32If they can like surprise and beats San Francisco start to until now you're going to get hot
13:38take people.
13:39That's it.
13:40Well, they shouldn't have drafted you.
13:41They shouldn't have drafted Drake.
13:42May.
13:43They should've gotten to Kobe Bursett weapons.
13:44Look, he's winning games.
13:45Like there'll be those takes, but I'm saying the only way to cover set keeps the job.
13:48It comes down to what everything in the NFL comes down to.
13:50Is he winning games?
13:51Yes or no.
13:52And when he has to be winning the games, it can't be 10, six wins where you get like, you
13:59know, a pick six and recover a fumble.
14:02And no, like he has to be winning games.
14:04That's the only way he's gonna keep it.
14:06He's playing well and they're winning.
14:07He's playing well.
14:08And they're losing.
14:09That's where it gets really weird.
14:10And I, I don't know quite what you do at that point.
14:12I don't think that's an outcome if he's playing poorly and they're winning, it's, well, it
14:18could be, you know, they're winning, but it would be even better with Drake may less than
14:22margin for error.
14:24If he's playing poorly and they're losing, no doubt you're going to make a change.
14:27He's playing poorly.
14:29That's playing poorly, winning, playing poorly, losing, playing well, winning.
14:36He's going to keep the job.
14:38Playing well.
14:39And they're losing.
14:40I don't, again, I don't really know what to do with that one.
14:44We can cross that bridge when we come to it, because I don't even really know what that
14:47would look like.
14:48Yeah.
14:49That'd be weird.
14:50Like if they're losing games, like 45 to 40, a lot has happened that I can't comprehend
14:56right now.
14:58I couldn't even imagine scoring 45 points, right?
15:02That would be crazy.
15:03No, I said if he's playing well and they're loose, so they would score the 40 that let's
15:06stop the 40.
15:07Yeah.
15:08But still even 40 points, that would be crazy.
15:10But anything else, Gerard male say about the quarterback situation kind of stand out to
15:15you just he said when asked who makes the decision on who's going to start, he said,
15:22I think I'll have final say, but, you know, he kept going back to that word collaboration.
15:26Probably a little Alex van Pelt you assume have a role in that.
15:29Taylor asked him if he thinks he's ready.
15:31If Drake may would be ready to run a huddle in week one, if needed to, he said 100%, which
15:37is kind of a change from just last Friday.
15:38So six days ago after the first game, when he said someone asked, what is Drake may need
15:42to improve on?
15:43And he said, first and foremost, the entire operation needs to be faster getting guys
15:47in and out of the huddle.
15:48So either Drake may make great progress there and then just a couple of practices or, you
15:53know, draw males, just spewing some words to make us happy.
15:56But anything else?
15:57Because a lot of questions about it, obviously the Mayo today, anything else specifically
16:01kind of stand out to you?
16:03Well, the answer about running a huddle, and then I want to take one question from
16:06the chat.
16:07The answer about running the huddle is interesting to me.
16:09Maybe they're comfortable enough that they would like to wait to get things figured out
16:13or they would like to wait for whatever reason, but they're okay with the timeline being sped
16:17up and maybe that whole buffer quarterback we've talked about.
16:22I would still do it.
16:24I would still do it because to me, if he's not ready to start week one, probably not
16:29ready to start week two.
16:31And I'd like to have somebody ready, but maybe they're not as concerned with that whole buffer
16:35quarterback idea.
16:37And maybe it is.
16:38Drake may is the true backup also just for the sake of argument.
16:42What is the pro Drake may starting week one argument?
16:47You just want to get him in the better quarterback in the better quarterback.
16:53But I think it runs a little deeper than that because are they not starting him?
16:59Or are they not starting him?
17:00Because he doesn't have chemistry with the top unit.
17:03To me, it would be, you just want him to get reps.
17:05You want him to get reps.
17:06You just want him to see as much football as possible as a rookie.
17:09You don't care if it's rough at times, it's just, we need this kid to see as much as possible
17:13because we think that's how he's going to develop the fastest.
17:16That is the argument.
17:17What I would say to that argument is you had a whole summer to get him reps.
17:23And if you didn't think he was ready for one's reps in training camp, why is week one
17:28suddenly he's ready?
17:30I can subscribe to that theory as a whole.
17:33We want Drake may to see as much high level football as possible because that's ultimately
17:37what's going to make him better baptism by fire.
17:40Somebody says in the chat, iron sharpens iron, like we're just going to throw him in the
17:43deep end.
17:44That's the argument for him starting week one, but it's also the argument for him getting
17:48one's reps throughout camp.
17:50So that would be the argument.
17:52I would push back on it and be very confused and kind of disappointed if that's what it
17:56comes down to.
17:57Yep.
17:58I mean, I've been a week one guy for a while and I think most people, they come back and
18:03say, well, you don't want to ruin them, right?
18:05Like you don't want to get them back there.
18:07Someone said baptism by fire and ruin them.
18:09The thing I would just push back there is like, I wouldn't be worried about Drake may
18:14getting ruined like that mentally.
18:16Like I think he can go out there and kind of take the punches.
18:19You saw it at times at North Carolina, you know, I know everyone gets on him for the
18:23NC state game.
18:25Like his last, his last collegiate game didn't start great, but he's down like 20 points
18:30there.
18:31Again, it's his last college game ever before he goes top five in the draft and you know,
18:35makes a ton of money.
18:36And he's out there running around like going hard until the very end.
18:40We've heard once he got drafted, like how much did they talk about him growing up in
18:43a family, like a competitive family?
18:45I think he could go out there and take the punches and not get rattled or ruined even
18:50if things don't go well early on, but maybe it's just best to give him a month.
18:56So you know, he really doesn't have to take those initial punch.
18:58I also worry about even if you think he, and I think he is mentally tough enough to handle
19:02some of the more mental sides of that physically.
19:07The last thing you can have is it gets hurt and loses the year of development entirely.
19:13And like, I think you can develop from the bench or not from the bench, but like, I think
19:18you can develop as a backup.
19:20You're getting reps in practice, you're still going over film, you're still engaged, things
19:24like that.
19:25Right.
19:26Maybe not as quickly as you can as a starter, but you can still make progress.
19:28You really can't make progress when you're hurt.
19:31You can watch film, but you can't really do anything with it.
19:34Like you can't watch because the value in watching film is that in the virtual reality
19:38tank for an hour every day, but does that.
19:42The whole point of virtual reality is you're in the game, right?
19:44There's really, and it's just harder to stay engaged.
19:46So like look at Anthony Richardson and I like Anthony Richardson losing a year of development
19:52could be monumentally detrimental to him.
19:56So if you can't keep him healthy, talking about Drake, you can't in all good conscious
20:02start in week one.
20:03That's good.
20:04That to me is the only argument that's left for holding him that, and he doesn't, he's
20:07never worked with the starters.
20:08And I remember that was an issue for Mac Jones early on.
20:12But yeah, I, if you can't keep him healthy, you can't put them out there and the lines
20:18are going to be great, but it can be better than it is.
20:20Especially.
20:21I think this is Brian is a perfect chance for us to jump over to the other big story
20:25from camp today.
20:26Well, good tease.
20:27Let's very quickly hear from our friends over at prize picks, and then we can get to the
20:32offensive line a little bit there.
20:34Prize picks is America's number one daily fantasy sports app with over 5 million active
20:37members.
20:38And it's the easiest and most exciting way to play daily fantasy sports because unlike
20:41other apps on price picks, it's just you against the numbers as you pick just more or less
20:46on two to six player stat projections and watch the winnings roll in.
20:50And price picks is the best way to win real money this football season, which players
20:54are going off, which ones aren't make your picks in less than 60 seconds and turn your
20:58sports opinions in the real money all season long on prize picks.
21:02And I know we're all excited to see Drake may eventually, but another rookie quarterback
21:06is going to start week one out in Chicago and one Caleb William passing yard gets you
21:11one win on price picks every week in September.
21:13That's right.
21:14Only one yard gets you an automatic win every football season or weekend in September.
21:19So that's four weeks of free W's.
21:21Don't miss this deal on price picks because it's gone when September ends.
21:25Great song.
21:26Shout out Green Day.
21:27But download price picks app today and use code CLNS for a first deposit match up to
21:30$100.
21:31Download CLNS on price picks for a deposit match up to $100 price picks.
21:37Run your game.
21:38All right.
21:39That was our usual 20 minutes of quarterback quarterback talk here.
21:46The other big thing today with the offensive line, it felt like we really finally settled
21:51on a left tackle and Vidarian low.
21:54He's held the position for over two weeks, even maybe more than that.
21:58Three weeks now, I'd say, but a lot of moving parts there.
22:01Low was one of the sturdy ones at left tackle.
22:05First 11 on 11 period today.
22:07Looks like a normal substitution.
22:09He subs out a few minutes later.
22:11He's walking with a head athletic trainer, Jim Whalen, to kind of the back medical shed
22:15there.
22:16Looks like he's grabbing like his low back, torso, ribs, area, and then he leaves practice
22:24departs.
22:25Don't see him again.
22:26So very low injured.
22:29We're down to four healthy tackles now with Caden Wallace, who took his place.
22:34Trucks core for on the right side and then UDFA, Zuri Henry and late free agent signing
22:41in camp.
22:42Uh, Kellen, what did we decide?
22:44Dish?
22:45Daish?
22:46Uh, Daish.
22:47Daish.
22:48Kellen Daish.
22:49I think it's like Daish.
22:50German.
22:51Some German up front.
22:52Here we go again with the names.
22:57Do we have to request to speak to Kellen Daish?
23:00We might have to talk to him anyway, because he might make the team, Brian.
23:03I mean, four tackles now.
23:05So thoughts, any thoughts on the dairy low and then just this tackle position again,
23:10like just taking a beating now because Calvin Anderson to still not healthy, missed another
23:14practice today.
23:15Just when it felt like the dairy and low was starting to make, and I can't emphasize this
23:18qualifier enough, a little bit of progress, he gets hurt.
23:22And some people may say, this is the team being saved from themselves, giving somebody
23:27else a look.
23:28I will say Caden Wallace looked decent today.
23:31Now it's one practice.
23:32It wasn't super high intensity, but kind of like we just talked about with Drake May where
23:37I would put, put Caden Wallace in this is if he performs well, however long low is out
23:43and it didn't, I'm not a doctor, so I don't know, but just, I don't know if you disagree
23:48with me, Brian.
23:49It didn't seem so serious that week one would be in doubt, right?
23:53Like he jogged off the field after the play, like nothing was wrong.
23:55So let's say Wallace comes back.
23:57Let's say low comes back.
23:59If Wallace can play well, however long low is out.
24:02He puts that pressure on the coaching staff that if low doesn't play well, we have this
24:06other guy and he was pretty good at the end of camp there.
24:10So let's give him a shot.
24:11It's just one practice.
24:12I'm not ready to anoint Caden Wallace's starting left tackle, although I think a lot of people
24:15would like to do that, but it, it opens the door at that position.
24:20And I think a lot of people, both of us included, have wanted to see the door open at that position.
24:24We maybe wish there were better options to walk through it, but it does feel like it,
24:30it opens the door there.
24:31The other thing it does.
24:32I kind of said offhand there, Kellen Deitch might make the team, uh, uh, Zuri Henry might
24:37make the team.
24:38Look, I think they're going to add a veteran tackle at some point.
24:41I know there was, it's Dennis Daly, right?
24:44Is the free agent who got cut.
24:45There's a report from Chris Price, the Boston Globe that they're interested in Dennis Daly
24:49who got cut by the Cardinals last week.
24:51I'll see who else comes along.
24:53Dennis Daly is PFSF worst offensive lineman in football in 2022 as the starting tackle
24:58for the Titans.
24:59He had to move into backup guard with the Cardinals last year.
25:02Um, I'll, I'll see who else comes along, but I do think they're going to add maybe like
25:07they did last year, trading for Vardarian low trading for Tyrone Wheatley.
25:10They're going to add some bodies, but realistically, how many tackles can you have that weren't
25:17with you in camp?
25:18And I combine that question with how many tackles do you need healthy to start the season?
25:23Because right now it we'll see what happens with your dairy and low and Calvin Anderson,
25:27obviously.
25:28But as you look at it right now, we are less than a week from cut down day, Brian, you
25:33have chooks, a core for, and, um, Kate and Wallace, Kate and Wallace are both healthy
25:42and have gotten reps.
25:44The next healthy tackle is Dyche and then it's, it's, it's, um, uh, Henry.
25:51So like I, you, there are guys you can add that are probably better than Dyche, but also
25:58how many, again, how many tackles do you want to have that haven't been in your offense
26:01all summer and are coming in cold?
26:04That doesn't mean Dyche is on the Ross for all 17 games, but maybe you have to keep him
26:08now.
26:09And it's probably Dyche over Henry.
26:11Maybe you have to keep him now for a few weeks, just as a bridge until you get those other
26:15guys caught up.
26:16And maybe that's on the practice squad and he's elevated, but then that's a practice
26:18squad elevation.
26:19You're burning.
26:20And we've talked about other guys that could get elevated from the practice squad that
26:22could make a difference.
26:24Guys like Del Pettis.
26:25Although I think he's going to make the team, but guys like Del Pettis, maybe you got like
26:28Haitian booty if he doesn't make it, but you want to keep him involved.
26:31Third tight ends probably going to need to come from the practice squad.
26:34We can talk about CJ Usama if you want, I would make the call.
26:37Certainly.
26:38I don't think he's great, but he's experienced and he's a big body that can block.
26:43It's a fire drill.
26:44A tackle right now.
26:45It is a full on fire drill, a tackle, and it goes back to the point.
26:48Are you going to put Drake May behind the fire drill?
26:51Start week one.
26:52I think that's a big ask, even for the third overall pick.
26:56Yeah.
26:57Yeah.
26:58Someone asked, why aren't they trying to acquire anyone?
26:59You'd imagine that, you know, with the tackle position, how barren it is in the first place,
27:04that's going to come at roster cuts.
27:06Whether you give a six, seven round pick to trade for a guy or you use that third waiver
27:11claim and try to add a body here.
27:14It's probably Conor McDermott time almost.
27:17Where's Conor McDermott?
27:18He's on the Rams.
27:19He signed with the Rams.
27:20Yeah.
27:21I was like, is he going to make the team honestly?
27:23It's a good take.
27:24Although here's the thing.
27:25I do.
27:26They want him.
27:27That's true.
27:28He was a free agent for a while.
27:30He was on offense.
27:31They cut him.
27:32Then it wasn't he under contract and they let him go.
27:34I don't think this coaching staff believes in him as a, as a part of this offense.
27:38Yep.
27:39That's just the reality.
27:40I know it's going to annoy some people, but that's the reality of it.
27:42Um, I was like two days away from giving that take when he signed, but they're gonna need
27:48to find somebody.
27:49They'd plain and simple.
27:50And, and, and if Lowe and Anderson come back, it lessens it a little bit, obviously.
27:54Like then you're probably good.
27:55I'd still like see them add somebody, but we don't know where those guys are at.
27:59And it's, you know, you're gonna have to make a decision soon.
28:02Again, we're less than a week out four o'clock on Tuesday.
28:06It's Darian canard season, baby Eagles.
28:09I love that take.
28:11I looked up.
28:12So after the Pats game, cause he had another decent game, I looked up like a few more roster
28:15projections from this week and he's still not on any of the Eagles roster projections.
28:19So who knows?
28:21I mean, they have a really, really crowded offensive line room themselves and talented.
28:25So maybe he'll, they'll find his way free again.
28:27They saw him in the joint practice and then the preseason game.
28:29So maybe Darian canard works his way here.
28:32That, that would be a good ad maybe because he's probably a step up over, you know, Zuri
28:36Henry and Kellen dice.
28:37So they'll need, they'll need a depth tackle.
28:40You'd imagine they'll add one, especially with these injuries, if they are any long
28:43term or serious.
28:44So elsewhere, offensive line is Layton Robinson had kind of another good day.
28:50So I don't know if they'll get to a point where they want to bump Mike on when you back
28:54out at this tackle situation gets really barren there, but Layton Robinson continues to impress
28:59and push for a starting spot there, but we'll see, but I've been dying to hear, you said
29:05before the show we started, you have a Jayvon Baker take.
29:08I'm dying to hear it.
29:09So let's hear your Jayvon Baker take, did I?
29:12It's not that big of a take.
29:13I didn't mean to set it up like that.
29:14Well, you said you had a take, so, okay, well, just like on that Jacoby Bursette near interception
29:20by AJ Thomas, I don't know.
29:23Did you think it's so it's a, it's a curl route in the middle of the field.
29:27Do you think Baker could have come back for the ball a little bit more?
29:30I thought he could have been more aggressive on that play.
29:32I thought he got fought through pretty easily.
29:35That's what I'm saying.
29:36Like, yeah, could he have made more of an effort essentially to win the race to the
29:40football?
29:41Cause that's what it was.
29:42It wasn't a good throw, but you want to see a receiver win the race to the ball.
29:45And that was the whole thing coming out of camp and early or coming out of college and
29:48early camp.
29:49He was very aggressive in going towards the football.
29:51That was one of the things that you looked at carrying trait and you didn't really see
29:54that today.
29:55Now, normally it's a play I might mention offhand and not make an entire point of, but
30:02for what he's been this camp, like, it's just another sign that he's losing reps.
30:09It's falling out of the rotation.
30:10He's with the lower units on offense.
30:13It's not to say that he's like, look, he's going to make the team.
30:15He's a fourth round pick.
30:16He's going to make the team.
30:17Is he going to play week one?
30:20I don't know.
30:21It's going to be active week one.
30:22I don't know.
30:23It just seems like he's fallen out of favor and it doesn't feel like he's doing himself
30:26a ton of favors to, to get back in, get back in the good graces.
30:30Yep.
30:31Definitely.
30:32And I'm not saying that intentionally.
30:33I'm not saying like he, it's just, it's not playing well.
30:35He's having a rough camp.
30:36Yeah.
30:37He started pretty hot, but it's been a kind of a tough last few weeks and that's not to
30:42write off the guy, right?
30:43Like he's a fourth round pick as a rookie.
30:46Like you'd expect, and there were inconsistencies at college that you would expect might show
30:50up and they're showing up.
30:51So you're not writing off Jayvon Baker, but maybe he's not in your plans early on in the
30:56season here.
30:57I don't know if it's more of a end of the season thing or down the line in the future,
31:01but cause you'd imagine like, and I wanted to ask you about Taekwon cause there was a
31:05lot of talk about him on Twitter yesterday on the off day.
31:09It seems like their top three, they've kind of settled on Taekwon as the X pop in the
31:13slot and then it's a combination of poke and KJ Osborne at that Z and then Kendrick Bourne's
31:19going to come back.
31:20So you see the body's kind of stacking on top of Jayvon Baker where it's tough to see
31:24him getting on the field.
31:26He has played a lot of special teams, so maybe that leads to him being active.
31:29But those top guys, it's good to see poke involved.
31:32Are you believing in Taekwon Thor in here as it seems like the coaching staff is almost
31:37believing him to be the starting X receiver at this point?
31:41I believe they believe that.
31:43I don't know that I'm as invested in it and I don't know that they necessarily have a
31:47better option.
31:48I might try K Sean booty, but then you really don't have a ton of speed.
31:53Maybe Jalen Rager, but he hasn't had a great camp either.
31:55Um, yeah, I think Taekwon is going to be the X start season.
31:58I, what I don't, the thing that worries me about it, I actually think this offense is
32:02a good fit for Taekwon and, and, and he could be better.
32:06I don't know that he's ever going to justify that 50th pick, you know, Evan said earlier
32:11today and Evan is fully in on Taekwon Thor again, by the way, he's always fully in most
32:16of the time.
32:17So the, the cop, he said he wasn't gonna do it this year.
32:19The comp Evan gave was Robbie Anderson, Robbie chosen as like, if Taekwon works out, here's
32:25Robbie Anderson's best season saying that on Twitter the other day too, isn't his best
32:29season, like 40 catches or no, not even that 95 catches, 1,100 yards and somehow only three
32:38touchdowns.
32:39I don't understand that.
32:40Robbie Anderson had 95 catches.
32:42Exactly.
32:43Taekwon Thornton is not going to be that guy.
32:44I think if he's really going to max out the player and I, this is, this is me being optimistic
32:51and I don't think this is going to happen.
32:53Remember Mike Wallace with the Steelers and with the Ravens.
32:56So Mike Wallace's best season 60 catches, 1300 yards, 10 touchdowns.
33:01I think Taekwon's going for 1300, but that kind of like, you know, 21 yards a catch thing.
33:07Like I think he can have a role in this offense and be better than he's been.
33:11I don't know that he's ever going to be that Mike Wallace, Robbie Anderson level, but be
33:14like serviceable, but that's, he stays on the field.
33:18And I get nervous about them banking too much on him being there and then getting hurt.
33:25If they feel like he has to be a part of the, it more, I'm kind of talking to this, taking
33:31real time, them viewing Taekwon as the starting X makes me more, it makes me worried, but
33:37I'm more worried about the offense than I am Taekwon.
33:40Because if you feel like you need Taekwon Thornton to make your offense work, that's
33:46not a great sign because among other things, I don't know how much you can count on Taekwon
33:50Thornton to be in your offense.
33:53So that's a big worry for me.
33:54Right.
33:55When it comes to injuries,
33:56come back to play.
33:57Maybe.
33:58Cause I thought someone with two was maybe, I don't know if Evan was tweeting about Robbie
34:02Anderson, if that's where I saw it, but maybe it was like the per game, Robbie Anderson
34:05stats.
34:06Cause like career, he averages over three catches per game for 42 yards.
34:10So I don't know.
34:11Would you take that from Taekwon on a per game basis, assuming that's Robbie Anderson's
34:16like per games, career stats.
34:18Yeah.
34:19But he had, he had, he had 11 games in 2022 where he caught five passes.
34:24So it's a little skewed.
34:25I get what you're saying.
34:26I would take that production, but it's not a, it's not a great, it Taekwon's not catching
34:3295 passes and he's never going to be that high volume of a receiver.
34:36If we're going to like, realistically, if he maxes out, who are we looking at?
34:41To me, it's Nelson Aguilar Nelson Aguilar season that got him paid in Vegas, 48 catches
34:50for 900 yards and eight touchdowns.
34:53That to me is Taekwon Thornton.
34:55Truly maxing out.
34:56You look at Nelson Aguilar's other seasons.
34:59It's a lot of wind sprints.
35:00You're right.
35:01I think that's kind of what they need him to be, but he's got to stay on the field.
35:05I can see it.
35:06Hopefully if he stays healthy, maybe, but just tight ends, or we can mention the wide
35:14receiver.
35:15They signed.
35:16They also signed some defensive players.
35:17We'll get to in a second, but they did sign a wide receiver.
35:20They put Jaquay Jackson on IR and they signed some pulling up his name, pulling up his name.
35:29Matt Landers, who spent a little bit of time with Cleveland this off season, not the Alex
35:36Van Pelt.
35:37He was there after them, but similar scheme.
35:39So he's a freakish athlete.
35:41He's like six, four, two 20 something.
35:43He had like a nine, nine, nine RAS relative athletic score.
35:47So just kind of a freak athlete, but we'll see if anything develops with Matt Landers.
35:52They just needed a body there, which Jaquay Jackson down.
35:55So roster move there, tight ends, Mitchell Wilcox limited today, Austin Hooper ramped
36:02back up a little bit.
36:03Still no Hunter Henry.
36:05You mentioned CJ Azama getting released by the Jets.
36:09Is that someone you're just saying, look, like we need a guy, we need a veteran in the
36:12room right now.
36:14Maybe CJ Azama could be that guy for the Patriots.
36:17Yeah, I, I give him a call.
36:19Now he may want to go somewhere that he has a chance to win.
36:22And this is where that whole thing about how attractive are they to free agents comes
36:25in.
36:26But, uh, last two years, rough, rough, total, total in, uh, 21 games, 29 catches for 290
36:34yards, only eight catches in, uh, only eight catches in 12 games last year.
36:40Now that's in a really bad Jets offense.
36:43Last time he played a full season was in 2021 with the bangles caught 50 passes for 500
36:47yards and five touchdowns.
36:48I'm rounding there.
36:49He wasn't that perfect.
36:51Like, can he be that?
36:53I don't know.
36:54It's two years later.
36:55He's 31 years old.
36:56I do know.
36:57He's six, five, two 70.
36:58He can block.
36:59He's not a stranger to catching the football for a third tight end who may need to be a
37:04bridge as a pass catcher.
37:05If Hunter Henry's going to miss the start of the season, you could do worse.
37:10I'd make the call.
37:11And even if Hunter Henry's back, he'd be a good third blocking tight end.
37:14It reminds me a little bit.
37:15Brian, do you remember when they had algae crumpling here at the end of his career and
37:18he was not a receiver anymore.
37:19He was not a pass catcher.
37:21But he could still put his hand in the dirt and bully an outside linebacker off the line.
37:25I wonder if you Zama could be algae crumpler for this team and they could use that.
37:29It's not going to solve everything that I can be a super bowl winner, but if they're
37:33trying to be competitive and get the offense moving a little bit, a tight end that can
37:36actually block and honestly, a veteran in the room with the young quarterback and young
37:41wide receivers could help.
37:43Yep.
37:44Yeah.
37:45They need, they need a tight end.
37:46So you assume they're going to add one at some point here, maybe with that waiver wire.
37:51So we'll see what happens, but, uh, anything else on the offense today that from your note
37:57or just big picture, I think that was pretty much it.
38:00I wish popping caught that pass.
38:02Yeah.
38:03I don't know.
38:04That, that was weird.
38:05I think he lost it in the sun or something.
38:06Cause he used one hand, but he didn't like fully extend the one hand.
38:10So that, I don't know, that was, that was kind of weird.
38:13I will just add, like drawed Mayo said, all four quarterbacks are going to play in the
38:18preseason finale, uh, Milton and zappies day.
38:21They just kind of spent it running the commander scout team offense.
38:24A lot of zone reads figure they is Jaden Daniels playing.
38:27Have we heard from Washington?
38:29I thought I saw he wasn't, but I couldn't find, I might imagine that.
38:33Okay.
38:34So I couldn't find where I saw it.
38:35They were running.
38:36They were running plays.
38:37Like you'd expect Jaden Daniels to run on the scout team offense today, but we'll wait
38:41and see if he actually does suit up, but that's what they spent most of their days
38:45doing.
38:46So let's go to the defense and special teams.
38:50But before we do that, uh, it is football seasons.
38:54We said the weather, it smells like football season and we all love going to football games

40:25Last minute tickets, lowest price guaranteed.
40:27All right, let's start with some roster moves on the defense.
40:34We mentioned the edge depth a lot recently, recently after the Matthew Judon trade, Josh
40:39Uche and O'Shane Ziminez have been a little banged up.
40:42They did return in a limited fashion today, so it was good to see them out there.
40:46But they're down a lot of edge guys.
40:48So they signed two guys yesterday, Kobe Jones, Christian McCarroll.
40:53One was UFL and one actually, Christian McCarroll was actually from Grand Valley state, which
40:58is where CFL, CFL, CFL.
41:02And McCarroll was from Grand Valley state, which is coincidentally where Judon played.
41:06So adding some edge depth there and then maybe the more notable roster move upfront was they
41:11released Mike Purcell, who wasn't at practice today.
41:15Kind of a surprise because he, he signed that, you know, in the first week of camp and like
41:22kind of threw him right out there.
41:23He's been playing a lot, but I don't know anything on the edge depth or the release
41:28of Purcell there today.
41:30Was that a surprise for you or anything?
41:32Yes.
41:33So, no, I, I wonder if this was something for a veteran where they knew he wasn't going
41:37to make the team and they're giving him an opportunity to get ahead of things and finding
41:40a new job.
41:41Like he'd been solid, but the, you know, Jeremiah Farm has been better.
41:47Tristan Hill's been better.
41:49Maybe there's still a shot for Arman Watts, but he just got outperformed by players at
41:52that position.
41:53Plain and simple.
41:54Yep.
41:55Yeah.
41:56Far.
41:57I think Mayo, did Mayo single out Farms today?
41:59Yeah.
42:00He was asked about the defensive tackles.
42:01No, he's singled out.
42:03He's asked about like the depth defensive tackles and he put Daniel equality.
42:07He added Daniel equality to conversation just about how the defensive tackles have been
42:10good.
42:11Yeah.
42:12I think he didn't want to talk too much about the different, you know, tiers there.
42:17Yeah.
42:18Someone says we talked about farms and Godshaw.
42:22Is anyone else catching your eye?
42:25And he said, yeah, you can throw Dan in there as well.
42:27He's one of those guys who's a penetrator.
42:29You know what he is.
42:30Good player.
42:31We have guys on the perimeter on the outside that can slide inside on third down.
42:34So yeah, that's, that's how the trench talk is looking in at the defensive tackle spot.
42:39Should we answer this question, Brian, how do you release per cell and not low?
42:45How do you really?
42:46You're right.
42:47How do you release your fourth string nose tackle and not your starting left tackle?
42:48You're starting left tackle.
42:49I know it's a joke.
42:50I just, I had that witty comeback ready.
42:53Yep.
42:55What else?
42:57Starting corners, Christian Gonzalez, Jonathan Jones, opposite Marcus Jones in the slot.
43:03He had an intercept in as well.
43:05I think Alex Austin was kind of first up in the Alex Austin and Marco Wilson got some
43:11good reps too.
43:12I think that's your group.
43:13Sean Wade left early.
43:15We didn't see he's limited for a week or two now it feels.
43:21And Marcello style at a pick, but it was a misthrow is a bad ball from Jacoby for a set.
43:26So, I mean, it's still looking like that group is the Joneses, Gonzo, Austin Wilson, and
43:32then maybe a sixth corner, maybe dial sneaks on, but I think they can get them on the practice
43:36squad.
43:37So I'd say Bolden cause Oh, bold.
43:40I forgot about Bolden.
43:41He was in that mix too.
43:42Yeah.
43:43Bolden would be the sixth corner.
43:44And then your backup.
43:45Yeah.
43:46He's also played a little bit of safety.
43:49Yep.
43:50Not enough that it's notable in general, but as an emergency option, sometimes that can
43:54keep you on the roster.
43:56He's always been good at safety, by the way, for the last like week and a half.
43:58We haven't mentioned it, but he had another pass breakup today, Brennan school.
44:02Oh, okay.
44:03Yeah.
44:04Thomas has been fine, but like Brennan schoolers, I don't want them out there starting, but
44:08I think you could do a lot worse in terms of emergency safety.
44:11He looked serviceable in the Eagles game.
44:14Like some of his man coverage plays like it wasn't perfect, but it was what you'd expect
44:20from a guy who hasn't played safety in like two years.
44:22Right.
44:23He's been purely a coverage specialist.
44:24Yeah.
44:25Look, he was an all conference freshmen before he changed positions in college.
44:28So maybe it shouldn't come as that much of a surprise, but credit where credit's due.
44:34Brennan schoolers had a good camp a hundred percent.
44:36I wanted to stick in the safety room because Del Pettis, Gerard Mayo said he's someone
44:43who's making a name for himself defensively and special teams to make the roster.
44:47So he's been stacking days, Del Pettis, and that kind of coincides with, you know, I see
44:52some people in the chat talking about it.
44:54Now, does anyone know what's wrong with Mop who haven't heard Mop whose name in a while?
44:58He hasn't participated since the very first practice of the summer.
45:01He's out there all the time, taking mental reps, sometimes working out on the lower field,
45:06but Gerard Mayo called him week to week today, which doesn't sound great because you know,
45:13if it's minor, it's usually day to day, right?
45:15Like he called Joshua Uche day to day.
45:17We heard like Cole strange earlier this off season was week to week.
45:21And I don't think it's as serious as strange because we, you know, we've seen Mop who again
45:24out there, but it doesn't look great for Martha Mop who, and I would, I think we're on the
45:30same page.
45:31Like he might take one of those two IR spots that you can assign early and get them back
45:36before roster cuts.
45:38But like, it's been disappointing from Mop who the summer and I don't know, we just haven't
45:43seen him out there at all.
45:45Yeah.
45:46He's going to.
45:47So like I said, I have those two IR spots.
45:48I don't see how one doesn't go to him and it's, he's behind, he's behind, he's just,
45:55he's going to have to play catch up and they're loaded at that position.
45:58So it's going to be tough for him to get on the field.
46:01And anything with Del Pettis?
46:02Do you think he takes that spot that we may have went into the summer and slain Mop who
46:06in for?
46:07Yeah.
46:08Yeah.
46:09I think so.
46:10He should be on the team.
46:11I know Mayo said today it was going to be a tough conversation, but I think Pettis has
46:13earned a roster spot, especially on this roster where it's maybe not as competitive.
46:17Yep.
46:18He's been good.
46:19So, uh, anything else defensively that, that kind of caught your eye today?
46:24I think that's pretty much it.
46:26Not like the most competitive practice, just with it being a lot of scout team stuff.
46:30Yep.
46:31Definitely.
46:32But let's wrap up with the kickers.
46:34This one might be over, uh, Joe might be, I think it's over the kicker competition.
46:41I called it after the preseason game, so I can't really add on other than to say I've
46:45already called it.
46:46You declared it last time we might've done a show by ourselves.
46:50I think you did.
46:51I think so.
46:52It was after the preseason.
46:53I declared it like a, like a TV news network declares an election, so I'm ready to call
46:58it and I'm still there.
47:00So, uh, 33 to 50 yards today to end practice.
47:04Yeah.
47:05Joey Sly, four, four, Chad Ryland, one of four.
47:10He went wide left, right, upright, and then wide right.
47:13So kind of spraying the ball all over the place.
47:16That last one was, uh, it was as bad a miss as I've seen in camp.
47:21Evan was trying to give them wins credit.
47:24Like I'm not even saying it.
47:26It was about, would you say 15 feet outside the goalpost and it didn't reach.
47:33We debated this, but I think I know what I saw.
47:35It came close.
47:36It might've hit the end line, but it didn't get through the end zone.
47:39Like it was going to be short had it been online.
47:44I could blame the wind for distance.
47:45Cause chatter Island has a big, big leg, but like it was, it was wide.
47:49It was not.
47:50I think it's more of the hook because it carried, if it's like, it's like golf, right?
47:55If you hook it, you know, 15 yards, 50 yards this way and 50 yards this way, you're not
48:01going to go as far in a straight line, but it looked like one of those kicks.
48:05If you play CFP 25, where you max out the meter, you get all the way to red and it's
48:10just like comical.
48:12And that's maybe a little bit of exaggeration, but like it was, it was his last kick was
48:16the worst miss either kickers had in camp so far this year.
48:20Yep.
48:21So which tells me that, sorry to cut you off, like, and he went first this time he hadn't
48:25been going first, but he went first this time mentally.
48:28I think he's, he's struggling with it to go first mystery kicks in a row, had that bad
48:32of a miss.
48:33I, I, he's going to need to like go back and really reset some things.
48:37I don't mean to say to pick on the guy, I just think that's where he's at.
48:40Yep.
48:41So, cause he was good to start.
48:43And then, you know, the competition gets kind of tight and he's falling off, uh, considerably
48:48the past, you know, seven to 10 days.
48:50So the only question now for me, sorry, the only question now for me, I don't know if
48:55this is where you're going, do they keep chat around on the practice squad or another kicker?
48:59And I would definitely keep a kicker on the practice squad in case things go south with
49:03Joey slide.
49:04Cause he's like almost suspiciously hot right now, but yeah, his career is like 80% and
49:11he's 40 to 48 this summer.
49:12So, so that's what I, it's like almost 90, isn't it?
49:17Um, I can't do math 40 divided by 48, 83%.
49:24So he's kind of on par with his, but the, what is it?
49:27Seven of eight, eight of nine from 50 plus is not, I don't know what his career 50 plus
49:32is.
49:33Um, but he's always had a big leg, but again, like I it's, do they keep chat around on the
49:39practice squad?
49:40Or do they just go find another kicker?
49:43I think it's a question at this point.
49:44Yeah.
49:45I mean, I've said the last few days when we've talking about this, like, I'd expect slide
49:49to get the job with them to kind of keep Ryland around.
49:53But with these performances, like you, they might be able to find a better backup option
49:58there than, than Ryland.
49:59If he's going one for four and kind of spraying the ball like this, you know, like Harrison
50:04me this, I don't think he ever signed, right?
50:06Like he was a top drafted kicker.
50:08He went UDFA and then got beat out, but he's out there and still a lot of teams have two
50:12or three kickers out there in camp.
50:14So some of those guys are even going to become available over the next week or so.
50:18So maybe they find an upgrade because, you know, keeping a second guy around could be
50:22logical on the practice squad there.
50:23So maybe they find an upgrade, uh, elsewhere if, if Ryland doesn't, I don't know, it doesn't,
50:29it doesn't look great.
50:30So would you think he gets the, if they get a field goal in the game, do you think they
50:33give it to him or sly?
50:34How do you think that rotation?
50:35I think they're going to keep doing the rotation and it's, is it an even number kick or an
50:39odd number kick?
50:40I think that's what it's going to come down to.
50:41Just like it has.
50:43Yep.
50:44So that one looks over, uh, Joey sly looks like he's going to be your week one kicker,
50:48but, um, and Bryce Berenger was absolutely crushing the ball today.
50:53Also got mic'd up for the Eagles game.
50:55Patriots.com posted that.
50:56Go check that out.
50:57I didn't see that right before we started.
50:59That was a pretty good three minute video, not too long.
51:02So go check that out.
51:03Since we still are taking applications, I believe for our punters league.
51:07So yeah, we got, I think we got a good amount.
51:10We had like 15 or 20 responses in there.
51:13There were some, that was on Twitter.
51:15There were some on the YouTube comments as well.
51:17So there's a tweet on Patriot CLNS and all, all of our timelines right now.
51:22Yeah.
51:23He'll, he'll retweet it where, uh, if you want to volunteer or request to play in our
51:27fantasy punters league, we're taking applicants.
51:30We need four of you to join us to Taylor and Mike.
51:33So go check out the tweet or retweet it.
51:37And we're still looking for those four people.
51:39No one's ruled out yet.
51:40I'll tell you something funny though.
51:42So like I thought it would be like a big flood initially and then we wouldn't hear anything
51:46after like an hour.
51:47They're still like slowly rolling.
51:49I know.
51:50But after an hour we had like five people and I was like, this is the worst case scenario.
51:55We're going to have to leave one person out.
51:56We're going to look like total a-holes, but now we get to leave a bunch of you out.
52:00So that's okay.
52:01Yes, yes, yes.
52:02All right.
52:03Uh, we'll wrap it there.
52:05Uh, there'll be back tomorrow.
52:07One o'clock again, kind of later we'll also get to talk to offensive assistant coaches
52:13for the first time before practice.
52:15Uh, so we might get some good stuff from Alex Van Pelt, TC McCartney and all those guys
52:19as well.
52:20And we'll be back to break it all down tomorrow night.
52:24Probably same time, maybe give or take a little bit there here and there, but we'll let you
52:29know.
52:30So follow Patriots CLNS on Twitter.
52:32We'll keep you up to date with a promo there.
