00:04to you live from the United Center in Chicago, site of this week's Democratic National Convention.
00:10Democrats are portraying this event as a changing of the political guard.
00:15President Joe Biden with a symbolic handoff of his party leadership to his vice president,
00:21and now the Democratic nominee, Kamala Harris.
00:24She is riding a wave of momentum since the president's withdrawal from the campaign just
00:29four weeks ago.
00:30Republicans are hoping their nominee, former President Donald Trump, can cut into that
00:35momentum boost by portraying Harris as an extreme liberal pushing socialist ideas.
00:42We have FOX team coverage.
00:43Bret Hume and Karl Rove on set with me here in the United Center, break down what's online
00:48this week in Chicago.
00:49Brian Yennis is on the road with the Harris-Walsh bus tour in Pittsburgh, but we begin with
00:54senior White House correspondent Peter Ducey right here in Chicago.

01:00Right now, the last-minute preps are underway to make sure the Democratic Party all-stars
01:05who will speak on stage over the next couple nights all look and sound good.
01:10The party bosses want to make sure that these good vibes their side has had since replacing
01:15Biden with Harris continue.
01:20Top Harris surrogates want to make sure people watching the convention know the economic
01:24proposals are democratic, not communist.
01:27I don't think there's anything communist about wanting to make housing more affordable and
01:32prescription drugs more affordable.
01:33The Washington Post editorial board writes, the times demand serious economic ideas.
01:38Harris supplies gimmicks.
01:39Price gouging is not causing inflation, so why is the vice president promising to stamp
01:44it out?
01:45So you think it's smart policy, Governor?
01:47You know what?
01:48I think that any effort we make to keep more money in Americans' pockets is worth walking
01:54in the path.
01:56Four nights, four themes in Chicago.
01:59For the people, a bold vision for America's future, a fight for our freedoms, and for
02:03our future.
02:04Despite the lack of specific policy proposals, the Harris team says a lot more money is coming
02:08in now than it was for Biden.
02:10The money was drying up.
02:11Without money, there's no firepower.
02:12Recent polling reflects steady momentum for Harris and Walz.
02:16I think that this is a moment for us as an organizer.
02:19I think about it this way.
02:20This is what I call organizer gold.
02:23Protest organizers outside the convention are getting 270 groups together to protest
02:29the party's support for Israel aid.
02:32Tomorrow is what we're calling the event of the season.
02:35The convention's host, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, believes his state is prepared.
02:39I expect that we're going to have peaceful protests, we're going to protect the protesters,
02:43but also protect all the people visiting, 50,000 people coming to Chicago, and the residents
02:47of Chicago.
02:48However, protesters are warning police not to redirect their march.
02:52If the city does not agree at step off, we will, we will, um, we will march the route
02:58and you know, the, listen, we have a philosophy in Chicago that the numbers dictate what the
03:06route is.
03:09High above this convention floor in the rafters where Bulls and Blackhawks players have their
03:14jerseys retired, there are already nets filled with tens of thousands of inflated balloons
03:22set to drop on the fourth and final night here.

03:29Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are on a bus tour around the Pittsburgh area today.
03:33Pennsylvania, of course, is viewed as one of the most important of the swing states.
03:38The pair speaking at a high school to a high school football team just last hour, and they
03:43were joined by Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Famer, Jerome Bettis.
03:46The bus.
03:47Walz is a former high school football coach.
03:50Former President Trump, meantime, appearing at a rally in Wilkes-Barre Saturday.
03:55Correspondent Brian Yennis is with the Harris-Walz campaign tonight in Pittsburgh.

04:03The campaign right now is the, the campaign right now is actually at a Sheetz gas station
04:12here in Pennsylvania before they make one more stop, we're told, before they head out
04:16to the DNC.
04:18Even last night, former President Trump acknowledged that whoever wins the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
04:23is likely to win the whole thing.
04:26Anybody who's about beating down other people is a coward.
04:33This is what strength looks like.
04:35On a bus tour of Western Pennsylvania, Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz
04:40hit back at former President Trump after weeks of personal insults.
04:44We don't call each other names.
04:45We don't do it.
04:47And we don't use the leech fortunate amongst us as punchlines for our jokes because they're
04:50our neighbors.
04:51They're our neighbors.
04:52Walz though has been delivering his own punchline for weeks, attacking Trump and his running
04:57mate J.D. Vance as weird.
04:59That's not just weird.
05:00That's un-American.
05:01That is un-American.
05:02Harris and Walz made the comments while meeting with campaign volunteers at a phone bank in
05:07deep red Beaver County, one of several stops, including a firehouse and a high school in
05:11the pivotal battleground state.
05:13Just last night, Trump held a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, where he lobbed more personal
05:17attacks at Harris.
05:18I'm a better looking person than Kamala.
05:22Have you heard her laugh?
05:23It's the laugh of a lunatic.
05:25Some Republicans are urging the former president to focus on the issues.
05:30President Trump can win this election.
05:32His policies are good for America.
05:35And if you have a policy debate for president, he wins.
05:38Donald Trump, the provocateur, the showman, may not win this election.
05:45Pennsylvania is seen as a must-win state for both campaigns.
05:49Its 19 electoral votes are the most of any battleground state, and early voting begins
05:53September 16th.
05:54The economy could be the deciding issue this election.
05:57Pennsylvania is the second largest producer of natural gas in the nation.
06:01Trump is focusing in on Harris' flip-flopping on fracking.
06:04After campaigning as anti-fracking in 2019, her advisors now say she's for it.
06:09All of a sudden, a couple of months ago, she said, oh, I'd love to have fracking.
06:13No, she won't have fracking.
06:17Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance, will be counter-programming the first night of
06:21the DNC by campaigning, you guessed it, right here in Pennsylvania.
06:25Again, to reiterate, people here in Pennsylvania can cast their first ballots just 29 days
06:31from today.

06:38There's a duality to the nature of democracy.
06:43On the one hand, incredible strength when it is intact, what it does for its people
06:52to protect and defend their rights, their liberty, their freedom.
06:58Incredibly strong and incredibly fragile.
07:04Vice President Harris and Governor Walz on the trail today in Pennsylvania, talking there
07:09about democracy.
07:10Let's get some perspective tonight about what comes ahead.
07:13Fox News Chief Political Analyst Britt Hulme and Karl Rove, former Deputy Chief of Staff
07:17to President George W. Bush.
07:19Good evening, gentlemen.
07:20Here we are at another convention.
07:22Britt, this is a convention that it seems at the beginning the momentum was this is
07:27not President Biden.
07:29This is not former President Trump.
07:31But now you had this economic launch that arguably didn't go as planned, at least in
07:36the mainstream media, if you look at it, all the criticism.
07:40And some walk back today.
07:42What do you think about this push, this momentum heading into this convention?
07:45Well, I think it has been diminished somewhat by the fact that the economic proposals that
07:49were that were outlined laid an egg, particularly the one about trying to deal with deal with
07:55what would amount to price controls to prevent so-called price gouging.
07:59And the surrogates didn't want to talk about that one.
08:01They talked about the housing and they talked about the drug.
08:04They didn't mention it.
08:05It didn't do well.
08:06And I think, you know, the consensus among economists for a very long time has been that
08:11price controls, which is what you'd have to use to suppress the prices, don't work and
08:16lead to bigger problems.
08:17So I think the momentum has been breaked a little bit.
08:20And it could be just could be maybe too much to hope for, that our colleagues in the media
08:26will now decide to take a somewhat more searching look at the planet as quickly here, Carl,
08:33to stick to joy, to stick to vague, to not get specific, especially after that launch
08:38on Friday.
08:39My my sense is, first of all, we don't know a lot about her.
08:42She may be the vice president for four years, but how many people know that, you know, there
08:46can be a lot of people at the end of this four days that are going to know she started
08:48out working at McDonald's.
08:50They're going to humanize her.
08:51They're going to tell her story.
08:53And that's really important for no matter how well we in the in the political side of
08:58things think we the American people know about a prospective candidate.
09:02It's the human touches that matter at a convention that you get introduced.
09:05I mean, 1988, George H.W. Bush, World War Two pilot 2000.
09:11This was a big concern we had.
09:13How about how do you depict George Bush as the effective governor of Texas who was able
09:17to work with Republicans and Democrats tonight, tomorrow night and the night after?
09:22We're going to particularly hear about her as her life story.
09:26Yeah.
09:27And then the goodbye farewell, if you will, to the nominee president.
09:30That's going to be short and sweet, I suspect.
09:32I don't think this convention wants to linger on.
09:36Let us tell everybody how wonderful you are now.
09:37Get out of here.

09:44Here's some other headlines tonight.
09:45Secretary of State Antony Blinken will use his ninth diplomatic mission to the Middle
09:49East since the start of the Israel Hamas war to press for a quick conclusion of an elusive
09:54ceasefire agreement.
09:56Blinken arrived in Israel today before what mediators have billed as a last push to reach
10:01a deal that would take place in Cairo later this week.
10:04So far, no word.
10:05Hamas is moving.
10:07He will meet with top Israeli officials Monday before traveling to Egypt Tuesday.
10:12Ukrainian officials say troops have deployed and destroyed a key bridge in Russia's Kursk
10:17region.
10:18They struck a second one nearby.
10:20The bridge attacks were apparently aimed at thwarting a Russian counterpush in Kursk.
10:25Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says the Kursk operation aims to create a buffer
10:30zone between Russia and Ukraine.
10:32Back here, Tropical Storm Ernesto has strengthened into a hurricane again.
10:36It turned away from Bermuda and is headed further out into the northeastern Atlantic.
10:41It has sent powerful swells toward the East Coast, generating strong ripcord currents
10:46up and down.
10:47And there are reports of significant delays at some of the nation's airports today.
10:51Ground stops due to thunderstorms at Westchester County Airport in New York and Newark in New
10:56Jersey.
10:57Weather is also affecting takeoffs in Atlanta, Boston and elsewhere.

25:06President Biden has just returned here to the White House to put his finishing touches
25:09on the speech he plans to give tomorrow night in Chicago.
25:12And the DNC plans to honor him with a video showcasing his time here in Washington, beginning
25:18when Richard Nixon was president.
25:22It's a well-deserved tribute to to the president.
25:25President Biden dropped out of the race nearly a month ago.
25:29Until then, he was looking forward to speaking Thursday night, not Monday, to accept his
25:34party's nomination once again.
25:36New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, writing, Biden went from looking forward to getting
25:41back on the campaign trail to gone in one weekend with the handprints of Barack Obama,
25:47Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries on the president's back.
25:52How could Biden not be hurt?
25:55Biden will now be looking to shore up his legacy, beginning with a potential ceasefire
25:59and end to the war in Gaza.
26:03The USS Abraham Lincoln strike group now in the Indian Ocean continues to sail to the
26:08Middle East and will arrive later this week.
26:12Some Republicans unconvinced the increased American firepower sent to the region is stopping
26:18Iran and its proxies from carrying out another major attack on Israel.
26:23I think it has everything to do with Israel and Bibi Netanyahu.
26:27I think it's Bibi that is deterring Iran right now.
26:31With the economy, another area of apparent daylight between Vice President Harris and
26:35President Biden is the war in Gaza.
26:38I also expressed with the prime minister my serious concern about the scale of human suffering
26:45in Gaza, including the death of far too many innocent civilians.
26:52When President Biden returned, he says he's not giving up on that ceasefire deal and says
26:56one is still possible.
26:58Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate have still not articulated a foreign
27:01policy platform.
27:02Perhaps something we'll hear this week in Chicago.

27:25You're excited about the week.
27:28How do you see it as far as characterizing?
27:30Is it an introduction or reintroduction of Kamala Harris here?
27:34I would say it's a passing of the torch.
27:36I think that you mentioned about President Biden before the perfect storm hit him.
27:41The polls went down, the electoral map brought in, the donors went to the sideline.

27:51Trump, was bring in Vice President Kamala Harris.
27:54I think it's going to be part introduction.
27:56I think it's also part getting the whole coalition back and excited.
28:00It seems like the momentum's been with her.
28:02But this is still kind of a honeymoon period.
28:05And I think it will stay that way, as some of your guests said earlier.
28:09And I think I've known Kamala since the vice president since 2006.
28:13So I'm excited for everyone to get to know her, because I think she's a great person
28:18will be a great leader for the country.
28:19Alex, as you look at the swing state polls, these are the average of polls than The New
28:25York Times, Siena College will put up Arizona.
28:29They show a lead for Kamala Harris and Georgia.
28:32They show a lead for the former president there.
28:34You see North Carolina with a Harris lead and Nevada very tight.
28:38It depends on the poll.
28:39Really, we've seen a pretty tight in these swing states across the board.
28:43Very tight.
28:44And some of it right now, it's not so much who she is, it's who she isn't.
28:48She's not Trump.
28:49She's not Joe Biden.
28:50Is she the future?
28:52This country is so hungry for change and something better.
28:55We've been through a rough time, COVID, economic collapse nearly.
29:00So can she be the future?
29:02This is her week to reintroduce herself.
29:06Is she the moderate?
29:07She's been in the last, oh, I don't know, 24 hours, the reinvention.
29:12Or is she really a woman of the left that she's been her entire life long?
29:17She's confused those things.
29:19But in these swing states, Georgia, for example, Donald Trump, that's a state that's got a
29:26Republican House, legislature and governor.
29:29A regular Republican would be up 10 points in Georgia.
29:33But Donald Trump has alienated some of those suburban Republicans and independents.
29:38Because of his feud with Governor Kemp.
29:40Because of his feud with Governor Kemp, but also because of the way he's handling the
29:44attack on Kamala Harris.
29:46That's very personal.
29:47A lot of women don't like that.
29:49So, you know, Trump wants to take this to a different level.
29:54His issues are dull.
29:56His strategy is not issues and ideology.
29:59It's entertainment that will drive a narrative that will change the world.
30:03And he hasn't quite figured out how to handle her yet.
30:06Just to interject there, I mean, one thing we should understand, one, the two senators
30:10from Georgia, Warnock and Ossoff, are Democrats.
30:14The lieutenant governor, Jeff, we buy in the seats.
30:20And the lieutenant governor, former Jeff Duncan, is supporting nominee Vice President Kamala
30:27Harris.
30:28So we do have some seniority going her way.
30:31The other thing I would say on the swing states is if you think about the infrastructure and
30:36the Chips Act that was passed under the Biden-Harris administration, there's the Arizona Chips
30:43factory being built.
30:44They're the Wisconsin semiconductor.
30:47There's the Georgia Battery Center.
30:48I mean, they are doing things in the swing states that are making a huge difference for
30:53hardworking Americans.
30:55That's a positive.
30:56OK.
30:57Anyway, slice it.
30:58Let me I know you spent a lot of time answering questions about the price control as it's
31:02as it's characterized by Republicans and critics.
31:05The surrogates who went to the Sunday shows wanted to talk about housing and they wanted
31:09to talk about medical reductions.
31:12I want to play a soundbite.
31:13This is on Meet the Press with Governor Whitmer asked about specifically illegal immigration
31:18and other specifics.
31:19Take a listen.
31:21He signed into law initiatives allowing undocumented immigrants to apply for driver's licenses,
31:28quality free for free tuition at public universities and enroll in the state's free health care
31:34program for low income residents.
31:37Would you like to see the Harris administration adopt those same policies, governor?
31:42Well, I can tell you, you know, Tim Walz is a pragmatic guy.
31:46He's a Midwesterner just like me.
31:48And I think some of the wonderful things he's done in Minnesota resonate with, you know,
31:53Americans in all states.
31:55We know that when you give when you provide free breakfast and lunch for all the school
32:01kids in your state, you're saving parents eight hundred and fifty bucks a year per student
32:06just on the grocery bill.
32:07So I think what you see in Tim Walz is a pragmatist who wants to make sure that we
32:13are a beacon that people come to.
32:15You need to come legally.
32:17I mean, the question was about illegal immigrants in public schools, free tuition, free health
32:23care.
32:24I mean, she says he's a pragmatist.
32:27I don't I'm not sure that that sells across the Midwest.
32:30I mean, here's the way I would frame it.
32:32One, and I'm going to I'm not pivoting here.
32:34I will come back to it.
32:36I think the support of the Lankford conservative senator from Oklahoma, his bipartisan immigration
32:43reform would have been the best plan for immigration.
32:48It was holistic.
32:49It was about asylum.
32:50It was about border security.
32:52With respect to Tim Walz, I'm getting to know him, too, over the last 10 days.
32:57You know, I know Shapiro.
32:58Well, I know Kelly.
33:00Well, I did not really know him.
33:02So I'm just getting to learn him.
33:03I mean, you know me.
33:04I've been on the show for eight years.
33:05I'm a moderate.
33:06I'm a capitalist.
33:07So a lot of the things that are on the far left, they don't sit well with me.
33:11A lot of things on the far right probably didn't sit well with Alex.
33:14I think that this this nomination is going to be when one on the center left center right.
