00:00Do you regret debating President Biden so early on in this race?
00:06What?
00:07Do you regret debating President Biden so early on in the race?
00:10Do I regret debating Biden so, it was his request, he said, we should get the debates
00:17on early.
00:19And I was willing, don't forget, I got CNN, I got Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, they're not
00:28Trump people.
00:30They wanted to have a debate where their mics are turned off when the other person's answering
00:35the question.
00:36They gave me every single thing that I couldn't approve and I said, yeah, I'll do it.
00:40So they got the debate on their terms, they got the network that they dreamt up.
00:45But that was really his decision.
00:46I had to decide whether or not I felt I had, I wanted to debate him.
00:50And I think they didn't want to debate, but I agreed to every single thing.
00:54It was a debate where they said, we'll give him something that it'll be impossible for
00:59him to accept.
01:00And I accepted all the terms other than when they had a sitting down at a desk.
01:04And I said, I think that makes us look bad.
01:06I don't want to sit down.
01:07Let's stand up.
01:08And they agreed to that.
01:09Other than that, we gave them CNN, we gave them Dana, and we give him Jake.
01:14And by the way, I have to say, Jake Tapper and Dana Bash were unbelievably straight and
01:22honest.
01:23And I give them a lot of credit for that.
01:24A lot of people were saying you couldn't have a fair debate.
01:27I think we have that with ABC.
01:29I have some people at ABC that don't like me too much.
01:32I find it to be about the worst.
01:35George Slobodopolous, I have a lot of people at ABC that I find it to be actually the most
01:41unfair of all the networks.
01:44And they want to do it on ABC, whatever, you know, I don't mind.
01:48The question that you're asking, though, about whether or not the debate should have happened
01:53would have been a better question to ask of Joe Biden, because had he not done the debate,
01:58he would still be running for president and people would be hiding him, just like they're
02:03hiding her right now.
02:04You know, they're hiding her no different than him, because I believe she's grossly
02:08incompetent.
02:09And I don't think that when people hear what she has to say, they're going to buy it.
02:14Thank you all very much.
02:20Former President Donald Trump in Bedminster, they're showing off some grocery goods about
02:25inflation, talking for more than an hour on a script where he largely stuck to and then
02:33took a number of questions from reporters.
02:35Let's listen.
02:40Finishing up there at Bedminster, his home now in New Jersey, where he's staying, President
02:47Trump saying that he he is going to win this race and he's going to define his opponent.
02:55Good evening.
02:56I'm Brett Baier.
02:57The former president saying there what Democrats did to President Biden was, quote, disgraceful,
03:03a threat to democracy and a coup.
03:05The Republican presidential nominee speaking with reporters just wrapping up in New Jersey.
03:10This says polls around the country are extremely tight, with Vice President Kamala Harris picking
03:15up ground from where President Biden was in the race before he dropped out.
03:20Congressional correspondent Ayesha Hosni there in Bedminster asked a question.
03:24She's there on scene.
03:25Good evening, Ayesha.
03:26Brett, good evening to you.
03:28I got to ask a couple of questions, actually.
03:30He took several questions today from several different reporters and on the polling.
03:34I did ask him about the polling recently, how it's been neck and neck, including our
03:38Fox News polling, which just has him up by one point.
03:42And he did answer that question.
03:43He said that he normally doesn't poll very well and that normally he doesn't do very
03:47well in Fox News polling.
03:49But he does believe in reality that he is up by a lot and that he is going to be just
03:56fine again.
03:57He's doubling down on not changing the strategy as far as beefing up his campaign and bringing
04:01some former aides on people from MAGA Inc. as well.
04:05The Super PAC.
04:06He says that is simply just because they're in the final stretch of this race.
04:10And he thinks that that extra help would be necessary.
04:14Also want to tell you that I also asked him about the food prices and the fact that Vice
04:18President Kamala Harris talked about possibly banning price gouging.
04:24And I think we have that sound here.
04:26So let's take a listen on price gouging.
04:30I don't have a lot of respect for her.
04:32I don't have a lot of respect for her intelligence.
04:35And I think she'll be a terrible president.
04:37And whether the personal attacks are good, bad, I mean, she certainly attacks me personally.
04:41She actually called me weird.
04:43He's weird.
04:46Kamala is reportedly proposing communist price control.
04:50She wants price controls.
04:52And if they worked, I'd go along with it, too.
04:54But they don't work.
04:55They actually have the exact opposite impact and effect.
04:58But it leads to food shortages, rationing, hunger, dramatically more inflation.
05:07OK, so on price gouging and that potential ban from VP Kamala Harris, he said that he
05:12doesn't think it's a good idea and that he doesn't think that's going to hold up in court.
05:16He also talked about Iran, of course, as the world awaits to see how Iran responds to Israel.
05:22We're all waiting to see if they do attack any minute now.
05:26And this is what he said about relations with Iran.
05:28Watch.
05:29I'm not looking to be bad to Iran.
05:32We're going to be friendly.
05:33But they can't have a nuclear weapon.
05:34They can't have a nuclear weapon.
05:36And we were all set to make sure that they don't have a nuclear weapon, because once
05:39they do, it's a whole different world.
05:43And one more quick piece of news.
05:45I was able to ask him, Brett, about your interview with Nikki Haley, of course, the former South
05:50Carolina governor who you just had on, who said to Republicans, all Republicans, I presume,
05:56including the former president, to stop whining about Kamala Harris and really start to court
06:01those independents, those moderate voters, those suburban women.
06:04And I asked him if it was a good strategy and if he would consider getting on the campaign
06:09trail with her.
06:10Would he invite her to the campaign trail?
06:11And he said, absolutely, he would be open to having Nikki Haley on the campaign trail
06:17with him.
06:18So we'll see if he follows through with that.
06:20Brett.
06:21Yeah, I heard that.
06:22That's interesting.
06:23And we'll see if she gets that call.
06:24I should.
06:25Nice job out there.
06:28President Biden, meantime, saying the U.S. has beaten inflation.
06:31He insists his policies are working, even as poll numbers indicate widespread dissatisfaction
06:37on the question of the economy among Americans polled.
06:40A new round of Fox News polls released tonight shows former President Trump has a huge lead
06:46on Vice President Harris among voters who prioritize the economy.
06:50The advantage is even more dramatic with voters most concerned about immigration.
06:55President Biden, Vice President Harris were in Maryland today trying to tout their efforts
07:00to lower costs.
07:02Senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy has details tonight live from the North Lawn.
07:06Good evening, Peter.
07:07Good evening, Brett.
07:08The first onstage joint appearance of Biden and Harris since the president dropped out
07:14was for something universally popular, lowering prescription drug prices.
07:19But it's unclear moving forward just how much Kamala Harris is going to want Joe Biden with
07:25her on the campaign trail.
07:27There's a lot of love in this room for our president.
07:30A wistful looking President Biden took it all in.
07:36This was billed as an official administration event about lowering drug costs, but sounded
07:41a lot like a campaign speech.
07:43The guy we're running against, what's his name?
07:48Donald Dump or Donald whatever.
07:51Brand new Fox polls find that 73% of voters believe Vice President Harris.
07:56She's going to make one hell of a president.
08:00Knew about President Biden's decline over the last couple of years.
08:03The longest time I was too damn young because I was only about 29 when I got elected.
08:08Now I'm too damn old.
08:10The Harris campaign trolled Donald Trump ahead of his press conference today, claiming he
08:14would have a quote, public meltdown.
08:17Despite the fact Harris still hasn't sat for an interview or held a press conference of
08:20her own since ascending to the top of the ticket.
08:23She did sit down with her running mate though.
08:25I called you, Tim.
08:27Yes.
08:28You didn't answer, Tim.
08:29I know.
08:30Just four in 10 voters in the new Fox poll believe President Biden is extremely or very
08:34involved in White House decision making.
08:37Now President Biden is hoping to ensure the public knows he's bonded to his vice president.
08:42Kamala.
08:43Kamala.
08:44Kamala.
08:45Both get it.
08:46Harris is reportedly planning to separate her platform from President Biden's, which
08:49is news to President Biden.
08:51How much does it bother you that Vice President Harris might sue for political reasons, start
08:57to distance herself from your economic plan?
09:03So President Biden seems to think that the exact same platform that didn't work for him
09:08will work for Vice President Harris.
09:11But exactly one week from tonight, she is going to be in Chicago accepting her party's
09:17nomination at the convention, and it will officially be her Democratic party, not his.
09:25Brett.
09:26And we'll be there all week.
09:28Peter Ducey, live in the North Lawn, Peter, thanks.
09:31As mentioned, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris trying to run on her record
09:35as vice president, but also, as you heard, trying to create distance between herself
09:40and President Biden on certain issues.
09:42However, congressional Republicans believe they can directly blame Harris for some of
09:46the nation's economic woes.
09:49We get that story from senior congressional correspondent Chad Pergram.
09:54Consumer prices spiked 20 percent under the Biden-Harris administration.
09:58Republicans say Harris wasn't an innocent bystander.
10:01They argue Harris may be directly responsible for massive spending, which fueled inflation.
10:06On this vote, the yeas are 50, the nays are 50, the Senate being equally divided.
10:14The vice president votes in the affirmative, and the bill, as amended, is passed.
10:21As vice president, Harris broke the tie to pass the $500 billion so-called Inflation
10:26Reduction Act in 2022.
10:28She was the tie-breaking vote.
10:30She was a tie-breaking vote that ties directly back to Kamala Harris.
10:34And Harris cracked the Senate deadlock to launch debate on the massive $1.8 trillion
10:39COVID package in 2021.
10:41She was a tie-breaking vote for that too, which then supercharged the inflation crisis
10:46we have right now.
10:47As vice president, Harris broke ties, but Republicans say she also broke the bank.
10:53The cumulative price increases on everything from groceries to gas to rent to mortgage
10:58payments has been sky high.
11:00The administration wants voters to consider other factors.
11:04We learned inflation fell 3 percent, and wages have risen faster than prices for 17 months
11:11The momentum is certainly in the right direction.
11:15Inflation is reliably coming down.
11:19Voters want answers about the spending.
11:22For instance, the government has only doled out 38 percent of the $550 billion infrastructure
11:28law passed in 2021.
11:31Brett.
11:32Chad Berkman, live on the Hill.
11:34Chad, thanks.
11:35A round of talks aimed at achieving a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has begun.
11:40Representatives from the U.S., Egypt and Qatar met today.
11:43Hamas is officially sitting out, but the Biden administration remains hopeful.
11:48National correspondent Jeff Paul has the latest from Tel Aviv.
11:53Three hundred and fourteen days into the war in Gaza, the fighting between Israeli forces
11:57and Hamas militants is constant.
11:59But there is a new push for peace as attention turns to Doha.
12:03That's where the U.S., Egypt and Qatar are working on a ceasefire deal.
12:07The release of the remaining 115 hostages and preventing a regional war.
12:11I think certainly the negotiations to reach a ceasefire deal would deescalate tensions
12:19and would avoid or has the potential to avoid a larger regional conflict.
12:25With an Israeli delegation physically there, President Biden downplayed Hamas's absence.
12:30Represented by both the Qataris and the negotiations going on right as I just got off the phone.
12:37U.S. officials don't expect a deal today as the talks will continue through Friday.
12:42And while they wouldn't get into details, we know it could center around President Biden's
12:46previously proposed three phase deal, like what was seen in November.
12:50The first phase would involve a weeks long ceasefire and a withdrawal of Israeli forces
12:54from densely populated areas of Gaza, as well as a release of hostages in exchange
13:00for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
13:02The second phase would see the release of all remaining living hostages, including male
13:06soldiers and Israeli forces would leave Gaza.
13:09The third phase calls for the reconstruction of Gaza.
13:12There of course is a lot of work that remains ahead.
13:15This is a complex situation and a complex agreement.
13:19But the work is so important and we're very pleased that this process has taken place
13:26again.
13:27Now, despite these ongoing ceasefire negotiations, the White House's John Kirby says that they
13:34still need to take Iran's threats against Israel very seriously.
13:38He says Iran has already made preparations and they really could attack Israel at any
13:42time with very little notice.
13:44Brett.
13:45Jeff Paul, live in Tel Aviv.
13:48Jeff, thanks.
13:49Up next, multiple arrests over the death of actor Matthew Perry from Friends.
13:54We'll have a live report from Los Angeles.
13:57Breaking tonight, five people are facing charges in the death of actor Matthew Perry.
14:01He was found in his hot tub last October in what has been ruled an accidental death from
14:06a drug overdose.
14:08Those charged include his assistant and two doctors.
14:12Correspondent Matt Finn has the latest tonight from Los Angeles.
14:15Good evening, Matt.
14:17Brett, today, federal and local authorities said that Matthew Perry illegally bought ketamine
14:22from an alleged drug ring made up of five people, including two doctors and the so-called
14:28ketamine queen who previously sold the drug to someone else who died.
14:34This is the haunting last photo from Perry's Instagram showing him in the hot tub where
14:39he was found dead last October.
14:42The 54-year-old actor was getting ketamine infusions for anxiety and depression, but
14:46today the DEA revealed that Perry's doctor refused to increase his dose, so Perry turned
14:52to illegal dealers who sold him at least 20 vials of ketamine over two months, totaling
14:58$55,000.
15:01Law enforcement officials say two doctors took advantage of Perry's addiction, even
15:06texting, I wonder how much this moron will pay.
15:10The defendants allegedly charged Perry $2,000 for a vial that would cost a doctor $12.
15:18These defendants took advantage of Mr. Perry's addiction issues to enrich themselves.
15:25He wanted more and he wanted it faster and cheaper.
15:29That is how he ended up buying from street dealers who sold the ketamine that ultimately
15:35led to his death.
15:37According to investigators, when one of the alleged drug dealers learned that Perry died,
15:42they texted another person in the scheme, delete all of our messages.
15:46The five defendants are charged with a series of felonies, including drug trafficking.
15:50They face a maximum of 120 years in federal prison if convicted.
15:55Brett.
15:56I've been live in L.A., Matt.
15:59Oh, it's supposed to be a meeting for supporters of the Harris Walsh campaign turned into chaos
16:11last night in one New York neighborhood.
16:13Dozens of anti-Israel protesters crashed an after party dinner, and it may may be a preview
16:20of the demonstrations we expect to see at the DNC in Chicago.
16:25Nate Foy shows us chaos in New York.
16:31The NYPD took 14 people into custody after an anti-Israel protest turned into a riot
16:37in Harlem.
16:40One protester appeared to set off a smoke bomb.
16:44Another is accused of assaulting an officer.
16:47Others interrupted a dinner between New York Democrats.
16:51The group followed the Democrats from an unofficial campaign rally for Vice President
16:56Kamala Harris, where an LED truck circled the block with a screen reading, quote, Kamala
17:01Harris, genocide supporter.
17:05Protesters interrupted a speech by New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
17:08Make sure you vote.
17:11Make sure you vote.
17:13Pro-Palestinian protesters are also expected at next week's Democratic National Convention.
17:18New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who attended the pro-Harris event, says such demonstrations
17:23are just part of the experience.
17:25This is an opportunity for people to exercise their freedom of speech, whether it's a kickoff
17:30rally here or in Chicago.
17:33The pro-Palestinian coalition to march on the DNC got permission from the city of Chicago
17:38to rally near the United Center during the convention.
17:40They gave us sight and sound because we organized and we demanded that they give it to us.
17:45But the nonprofit Israeli American Council says it got denied by the city.
17:50They granted anti-Israel and anti-Israel groups their rights to express themselves under the
17:56First Amendment.
17:57And they have not granted the right of pro-American and pro-Israel groups to express our First
18:02Amendment rights.
18:04Brett, the coalition to march on the DNC is protesting outside of Chicago City Hall tonight.
18:11The group is upset about certain stipulations in its permit to protest during the DNC, specifically
18:18restrictions regarding the use of audio equipment.
18:21Brett.
18:22Nate Ford in New York.
18:25Nate, one more question.
18:26What can you tell us about the fallout from some of the college campus protests back in
18:31New York?
18:32Well, Brett, of course, you remember the repeated anti-Israel protest at Columbia University
18:39in the spring.
18:40And now, after quite some time, the university's president, Manoush Shafik, has stepped down.
18:46And it comes one week after three university deans left their position at the school after
18:51the discovery of anti-Semitic text messages.
18:54Brett.
18:55OK, Nate, thank you.
18:58Los Angeles federal district judge has ordered UCLA to prevent anti-Israel activists from
19:03banning Jewish people on parts of that campus.
19:06A lawsuit alleged activists created a Jew exclusion zone in which a person had to make
19:11a statement of allegiance to the activist views in order to enter that area.
19:16The lawsuit also claimed UCLA administrators knew about the barricades, but did nothing
19:20to stop the activists actions.
19:22UCLA is expected to appeal that ruling.
19:25A spokesperson tells Fox the school is committed to fostering a culture where everyone feels
19:30welcome.
19:31Up next, we take a look at the fight over two key Senate seats that could decide the
19:36balance of power in Congress.
19:38And later, new video shows the moment of confrontation at a protest that has an officer fighting
19:44for his life tonight.
19:52Consumer spending jumped in July, surpassing expectations.
19:55Another good news point for the Biden administration.
19:58Retail sales were up one percent from the month before and up two point seven percent
20:03from July.
20:05Wall Street's comeback marched on after that strong report.
20:09The Dow today jumping five hundred fifty five.
20:12The S&P 500 finished ahead eighty eight.
20:14The Nasdaq surged four oh two.
20:18Former President Trump is asking the judge in his New York criminal case to delay his
20:22sentencing until after the November presidential election.
20:25The Trump legal team suggests sentencing is scheduled on September 18th, about seven weeks
20:30before Election Day would amount to election interference.
20:33The former president today in his news conference again slamming the gag order he faces in that
20:38case and still implemented on him.
20:41The judge is expected to rule September 16th on the defense's request to overturn the verdict
20:46and dismiss the case because of the U.S. Supreme Court's July presidential immunity ruling.
20:52Manhattan D.A.'s office declined to comment on the letter from Trump's attorneys.
21:02For the past couple of weeks, we've been analyzing our latest Fox News power rankings.
21:06We want to look at our election map.
21:09This is the path to 270 electoral votes.
21:12That's what you need to win the presidency.
21:14You see these states in gray.
21:16They're open here.
21:17The blue, the red, they're decided.
21:19And that's how the breakdown is as we start this.
21:22Now, our prediction, according to the latest polls, if it was held today, is that Michigan
21:28would go to Vice President Kamala Harris, 15 electoral votes.
21:33She clicks up.
21:35She would also get Nebraska's District 2.
21:38We push this button over here.
21:40It's in two different districts, but she would get one electoral vote from that side.
21:45Now, on the Republican side, looking at the polls today, we expect former President Trump
21:50to hold on to North Carolina's 16 electoral votes.
21:55And while it is close, today he would win back Georgia's 16 votes after losing to Joe
22:01Biden there in Georgia in 2020.
22:03So that brings us to 251 for the former president, 241 for the vice president.
22:10Here is the map.
22:12These states, let's say, are open on election night.
22:16Winning Pennsylvania would give the former president the needed 270 electoral votes to
22:23get back to the White House.
22:25If you don't win that, it's a combination of states for Vice President Harris.
22:31And even if she ran the table with these other states, she would be at 268, again, Pennsylvania
22:39being really a deciding factor.
22:42Also at stake are Senate races.
22:43Just one of our presidential toss-up states in Nevada has a Senate race tied to it.
22:50The other two competitive Senate races are located in solid Trump states of Ohio and
22:56Montana.
22:57That's where the Democrats have these incumbent senators.
23:00And tonight, we're going to take a closer look at the Democratic strategy to try to
23:04keep those two states.
23:06I'll tell you, I know Montana better than you know.
23:10I was all over your state.
23:12To guarantee control of the U.S. Senate, Montana is one state Republicans must win.
23:17I'm going out to certain places to help certain senators get elected.
23:20But I go out to Montana or I'm going to different places to help people.
23:26And I don't have to go there because I'm leading those states.
23:28In 2020, former President Donald Trump won Montana by 16 points.
23:32In 2016, he took the state by more than 20 points.
23:36The last Democrat to win Montana's three electoral votes, Bill Clinton, in 1992.
23:41I know that most people out West can't imagine voting for a Democrat for president.
23:45The last time both of the state's Senate seats were occupied by Republicans was the
23:50early 1900s.
23:51Montana is the most important pickup we have right now.
23:56Republican candidate Tim Sheehy is running against Democrat incumbent Jon Tester.
24:00We are not ready to face China, and that's Joe Biden and Jon Tester's fault.
24:03Sheehy is a former Navy SEAL, is trying to link his opponent to the Democratic presidential
24:09nominee.
24:10The Biden-Harris-Tester agenda has been a complete disaster for Americans.
24:14Tester has attempted to highlight his support for Republican policies, such as veterans
24:18issues and the Keystone Pipeline project, which would have run through Montana if extended.
24:24They've always tried to do to me, as they've always tried to make me into something I'm
24:27not and try to beat that person, because they can't beat who I am.
24:31And that's a fact.
24:32Tester was the only Democratic delegate from Montana to withhold a vote backing Harris
24:37as the party's presidential nominee.
24:39And rather than attending next week's convention in Chicago, Tester plans to remain in Montana
24:45to meet with voters.
24:46Tester fights for Montana regardless of party.
24:50Brown fights for Ohio regardless of party.
24:53And that's why they're doing so well in those states, despite the lead that Trump has.
