00:00What's up everyone, this is Noah Dalzell for a special edition of You Got Boston live to
00:27react to the new Celtics schedule. At this time of year you got to take what you can get and this
00:33is big news. It is kind of fun to be able to just map out what next year is going to look like.
00:37I'll be on the road for a lot of these games so on a personal level it was fun to kind of
00:42take a look at the schedule and kind of when games will be at and everything like that. So really
00:47excited that the schedule is out. We'll share some of my observations from this year and we'll share
00:53some of my observations from just the last couple hours of poking around and looking at the Celtic
00:58schedule and looking at other teams schedules as well. I'm happy to answer any questions. I'm
01:02sure people have already taken a look at the schedule and made some initial observations.
01:07I'll start off by sharing some of my initial observations and then I also want to talk a
01:13little bit about a conversation that I had with Sam Houser yesterday. So yesterday Sam
01:19Houser was doing a meet and greet event with some fans at the North Shore Mall and I got to
01:24catch up with him. It was the first time that I've spoken with him since the Celtic Women's
01:30Championship. So that was cool and I'll share some of the insights from that conversation
01:35as well as initial reactions and thoughts from this Celtic schedule release. So if that sounds
01:43like a plan I'll start with some initial observations and again I should probably have
01:47started with an introduction but for those of you that aren't familiar with me my name is Noah
01:50Delzel. I cover the Celtics for CLNS Media and for Celtics Blog and then I cover women's basketball
01:57in the WNBA for SB Nation. So I appreciate all of you for tuning in to UGAD Boston and
02:03should have said all this first but this is basically an opportunity over the summer to
02:07just talk about the offseason, talk about next year, reflect towards you know Banner 18 and kind
02:13of the journey that took place to get here. I had my dad on the show yesterday so check out that
02:18episode if you want to hear from him. He's a former professional basketball player that played
02:22overseas for a long time and he shared some of his reflections on Banner 18. But in any case
02:28today is a special episode to discuss the Celtics schedule. So I will start at the top and if
02:36anybody needs to find the Celtics schedule if you want to just follow along it's literally nba.com
02:40slash Celtics. The Celtics official website has the schedule and you can kind of poke through
02:44scroll down the list. Nothing is outstanding about it because it is just the Celtics schedule right.
02:50So it's you know it's only there's only so much that can be different or unique about it but
02:55there are some things that initially I observed. I saw by one metric the Celtics actually got the
03:00fourth easiest schedule in terms of strength of schedule. So there's different formulas and
03:05different ways that that gets computed and so it's not for certain that that's actually the
03:10case and I think you know different things can be weighed like back-to-backs like travel all those
03:15things have their own individual impact on the strength of schedule. But at first glance it
03:20appears that the Celtics got a pretty good a pretty good schedule as far as just where they rank
03:25against the league average. They have 13 back-to-backs which is 1.9 fewer than the league
03:31average. That's so that's also a good thing you obviously don't want back-to-backs especially with
03:37Al Horford knowing that Al Horford is going to be sitting out of back-to-backs and we don't know
03:41exactly when Karasavtsev Porzingis is going to get back. So that always helps to just be able to have
03:46that initial just that initial extra space that extra time. And so that was just one observation
03:52on the back-to-back front. The Celtics obviously open up on October 22nd against New York. That
03:58will be the schedule that will be the banner hanging ring ceremony. I'm sure the tickets
04:05to that are already insane. I was trying to buy some people tickets to that game and I was in the
04:10queue and I saw the price and I said I'll be back and I'll maybe the prices will go down. They probably
04:15won't but I didn't pull the trigger on this on this one. So that was just you know initial
04:20observations October 22nd you start against the Knicks. The first six of the first eight games are
04:25on the road. So you start off a little bit on the road. It does feel I see here it does feel
04:31like the Celtics always open up against the Knicks last year obviously against Madison Square Garden.
04:36I also thought that Philadelphia would be the team. I think there's just a little bit more
04:41of a rivalry a little bit more history with Philadelphia. So I think I would have rathered
04:46Philadelphia be the opener rather than New York. Obviously New York has the potential to be
04:51one you know maybe the second best or one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference this year. So
04:55you know with that being said you know it'll be a fun definitely be a fun matchup but I would
04:59have rathered to the Celtics play against more of a rival. So the 76ers someone that they've had
05:04lots of playoff battles within recent years Miami would have been awesome. Even Milwaukee I feel like
05:10at least you have more serious you know recent memory used to point to New York and Boston there
05:14just hasn't been a whole lot and that'll maybe change. But yeah I thought that they could have
05:19had a better opening night game. But New York has the hype of New York and that media market
05:24and everything. So I get where it comes from too. Question here about what game did I circle first.
05:32You know there was a lot of initial observations. I think I hate to add fuel to the fire but I think
05:38the the fact that the Warriors will be in town on November 6th. I'm really curious to see how
05:43Celtics fans respond to that because I do think that right now there's a lot of animosity towards
05:49Steve Kerr because of the benching of Jason Tatum during the Olympics. And also I think just in
05:54general obviously Warriors Celtics is a finals rematch from 2022 and Warriors have Steph Curry
06:00and they're always going to be a fun matchup Draymond Green. So I think I already always look
06:05for when the Warriors are coming to town but with the whole Jason Tatum Steve Kerr thing it'll just
06:10be that you know that you already know that'll be the narrative going into that game. You already
06:14know when starting lineups are introduced typically speaking you know players will get
06:19booed when they're announced and the coach is kind of quiet when they say Steve Kerr after they
06:24announce the Warriors starting lineup. I can guarantee you that it'll be very very loud at TD
06:29Garden just based off what I'm seeing on Twitter alone and I'm not even saying that that's warranted
06:34and I'm sure Tatum will go over there and catch up with Steve Kerr and be friendly with him and
06:39Celtics fans are going to freak out and boo. So that should be fun that should be a good one.
06:43Other things that stood out to me just upon initial review is the beginning of January
06:49looks really difficult so you have games against Minneapolis, Denver, OKC all in a five-day span
06:57on the road and a road trip that also includes Houston. There's a big homestand in December so
07:04you have the Heat, Pistons, Bucs all from you know December 2nd on then you have the NBA Cup
07:10week in mid-December so I don't know if people care about the NBA Cup. I don't know if people
07:15are bought into that at this point but I'll just share my thoughts on the NBA Cup. Celtics are in
07:20East Group C. It's a really weak group so it's Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, and Washington.
07:27The only one of those teams that I think are going to be a playoff team this year is Cleveland. Only
07:31one of those teams that was a playoff team last year is Cleveland and so they should be able to
07:37win that group and advance and maybe they'll be in Vegas this year playing in the Cup. Maybe they
07:42won't. I don't think they're going to take it very seriously as far as like needing to win these
07:46games more than regular games. It didn't seem to me like Joe Mazzuola and the team was bought into
07:51this idea that this was really important although when it came down to point differential against
07:55the Bulls I don't know if people remember they did foul quite a bit to make sure that they would win
08:00by I think it was 22 points so anyways that's Tuesday nights is going to be when that all
08:06happens. It's on you know it's in December and so every Tuesday those games are going to count a
08:13little bit differently. They're going to be just considered Cup games so that's that's kind of the
08:18premise there. Outside of that there wasn't like a whole lot that stood out to me about the schedule
08:23in a good or bad way. It looks like they got a pretty fair shake at things. A couple of longer
08:29road trips. The biggest road trip is in late March. You have Utah, Portland, Sacramento, Phoenix, San
08:34Antonio, Memphis in the last 10 days of March so that's like the big road trip of the year. I feel
08:39like there's always one big March road trip so this is the one. You also have a big homestand
08:45earlier in March so from like February 28th to March 12th they're home so you get the big homestand
08:51you get the big road trip. Those are kind of certain things you kind of kind of know and come
08:55to expect. Notice that the Miami matchups and some of the Philadelphia matchups are in the later half
09:00of the season. It does appear just at first glance that the beginning part of the season is a little
09:04bit easier and that's a good thing because if you remember the main thing that they're accounting
09:10for right now as we're thinking about next year is the fact that the Celtics are going to be
09:15without Chris Opspor-Zingas for the first few months at least. That just means you have to go
09:20deeper into your bench. That just means that Al Horford's going to have to play more.
09:24Obviously you're going to rely on guys like Xavier Tillman, Yamia Shkeda,
09:28Lou Cornette but you'd rather have some of the more difficult matchups, some of the more
09:32competitive teams in the latter half of the season. It does appear to be the case.
09:37I mentioned that really difficult stretch in early January. If Porzingis is back for
09:42after Christmas break, if he's back for those games that's huge.
09:47The season starts off relatively easy. You have Washington D.C. After the next game you have
09:52Washington D.C., Detroit. You have the Bucks at home, Indianapolis. Then you have two Charlotte
09:58games, Atlanta. It looks like there are some teams that should be a little bit easier teams,
10:03non-playoff teams earlier in the season. Again, we also know that you don't come out of the gates
10:10focused. It's the NBA. Any one of these games could end up being a loss. You never want to
10:17take any of these games for granted but it does seem like it's a little bit of an easier start.
10:22Then January on things get a little bit more challenging and hopefully then you have a full
10:26strength roster. Those are some other thoughts on the schedule so far. One thing that stood out
10:33to me, there's not big holiday games. Usually I feel like the Celtics play every single
10:38holiday and there's always these big matchups. The three holidays they're playing on right now,
10:42you have the 76ers on Christmas Day. They're hosting the Raptors on New Year's Eve. That
10:48seemed kind of random to me. I would have imagined they would get someone a little bit
10:53more exciting. The Raptors are not really in the most exciting spot right now.
10:57Then they're visiting the Warriors on MLK Day. Those are their three holiday matchups.
11:03Then from a national broadcast standpoint, if you're curious about that, and again,
11:08not every national game means you can't watch the game on NBC. I think sometimes people see
11:13national TV and they freak out like, oh, I don't want to hear the national broadcasters call these
11:17games. Not every game is exclusive to TNT or ESPN or whoever it is that's broadcasting.
11:23Some of them are. I don't know off the top of my head exactly how many are exclusive right now,
11:27but the Celtics have 34 national TV games, including NBA TV, which you may or may not
11:33consider national TV games. That's third most in the league. It's tied for third.
11:38The Lakers and the Warriors have the most. If you're wondering why is a play-in team
11:42have the most national TV games in the league? It's the LeBron James, Steph Curry effect. That
11:48will continue to be the case because those players have shown that they have the highest
11:51ratings of any players in the league. They're the top two teams, even though they obviously
11:57weren't playoff, real playoff championship contenders last year, not even close.
12:03If you take out NBA TV, actually the Celtics have the most national TV games.
12:08Certainly reflect the fact that A, just Boston is a big media market and the Celtics have been
12:12competitive for a long time, but obviously coming off of a championship, you're always going to get
12:16a little bit of a boost there. This is certainly a team that people are interested in and people
12:20are interested in watching. Those are some of my initial thoughts on the schedule, just looking
12:24at that. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have on what particular stretches or what
12:30not. Again, if you want to check out the schedule for yourself and just look at it, I can actually
12:34drop a link in the chat just so you can see, but it's just nb.com slash Celtics slash schedule.
12:40Came out at three o'clock Eastern time today. I think the world, the NBA world is excited about
12:46that because from this point forward, there's really not a whole lot of news. I don't think
12:50there's going to be a ton of off season trade news coming up. There's nothing substantive.
12:54It seems like it's in the waiting room. The schedule comes out. Now we have about six weeks
12:59before training camp and everything gets started. That's the big news of the day is that we finally
13:05are able to plan your year. If you're somebody that likes to put everything on your calendar,
13:09you can download that directly from the Celtics website and add it to your calendar. You can
13:13print it out, whatever it is. To me, this is just a fun time because we get to look ahead towards
13:18another season of Celtics games and obviously coming off a championship year, you have to be
13:24excited as a Celtics fan to see the entire roster come back and everybody be in the position to
13:28compete once again. Going through some of these questions, then I'm going to spend a little bit
13:33of time talking about Sam Hauser later too. Question here, how do you think they handle that
13:38tough stretch of games to start 2025? I do think that they're going to have Christoph Porzingis by
13:44then. I saw that he's posted that he's working out, he's in the gym. I know he's going to do
13:50everything he can to be back and be ready. When we caught up with Brad Stevens at Las Vegas for
13:55summer league, he didn't have any concrete timeline, but it does seem like it's going to be well into
14:01December at the earliest. I would all but say November's off the table just from what it sounds
14:06like. Obviously, I don't actually know for certain, but I would say at the earliest, he'll be back
14:10December and it sounds like maybe January is a possibility as well. I'm sure that even if he is
14:16back, whether that's in December or January or whatever, that he will have a very reduced load
14:23at the beginning and maybe throughout the year, honestly. I don't think that we're ever going to
14:26see Porzingis be put in a position where he's playing back-to-back games or playing really
14:31significant minutes. Just seeing how things panned out last year in the playoffs, it was pretty
14:36evident to me that this is someone that they're going to prioritize his rest and his health.
14:41It would be really fun if they're in a position where they're able to get him back for that
14:48tough stretch in January. I don't know if they will, but they have enough to beat these teams
14:55without him. The stretch that I'm referring to is early January. Let me just pull it up here.
15:05You're on the road, Minnesota on January 2nd, Houston January 3rd, the following day,
15:10and they're going to be better this year. Sunday, January 5th, you're at OKC and then
15:15Tuesday, January 7th, you're at Denver. That's probably the toughest stretch of the season,
15:18just at first glance. Certainly, that's one that stands out. I think you're happy if you split
15:24those games. Again, a lot of people freaked out this year because they dropped some of those
15:28road trip games. They lost to the Warriors. They lost to OKC. They lost both games to Denver. I
15:33think you have to remember that during the season, you lose some of these games. It doesn't always
15:37signal a whole lot. You're going to lose in these games. Even if you win 60 games, you still lost 22.
15:44I do imagine that they dropped some of those. One thing that stood out is the California road
15:49trip is a little bit later than usual. Last year, it was around Christmas time. This year,
15:53it's in late January. I'll be covering a lot of these games. That's exciting. I'm really excited
16:02to be able to be there and be on the ground, posting videos for you guys, posting clips from
16:05interviews, all the things that I generally do. My goal is to be at as many of these away games
16:10as possible. I'm just working through all the logistics of that right now. This was fun for
16:14me to get scheduled so I can start planning my life too. This was a fun couple hours to just
16:23poke around and look at the schedule. I do think from just what it looks like, I think the Hellies
16:27got a pretty good shake at things. Sometimes the way that things roll out and it's a lot of AI and
16:32computer generation and some human intervention as well. I'm sure you all of a sudden realize your
16:37team has the most difficult schedule. Right now, it looks like the Hellies have one of the easier
16:41ones, which can always change depending on what teams actually become good. There's always teams
16:48that surprise people. I think people wouldn't have expected OKC, for example, last year to be
16:52one of the best teams in the league, and obviously they were. There's only so much you
16:58can interpret right now at this point, but we'll see. We'll take a quick break right now just to
17:04hear from our friends over at GameTime. I love going to MLB games during the summer, love going
17:09to concerts, games, sporting events, and there's no better way to get tickets to all those events
17:13than the GameTime app. GameTime is an authorized ticket marketplace of Major League Baseball,
17:18which makes getting tickets faster and easier. Prices on the GameTime app actually go down the
17:22closer it gets the first pitch. You can download the GameTime app, you can see any event that you
17:27search, you can put the location in of where you're based, see upcoming concerts, sporting events,
17:31whatnot, and get the best deals, best prices guaranteed. So take the guesswork out of buying
17:36MLB tickets with GameTime, download the GameTime app, create an account and use code CLNS for $20
17:42off your first purchase. On top of the fact that it's already a really good deal, download the app,
17:46terms apply, redeem the code CLNS for $20 off, download GameTime today, last minute tickets,
17:51lowest price guaranteed. Awesome. So I'm going to take a pause on the schedule, but feel free to
18:00continue putting in questions. And if there's some at the end of this, then I'll be able to,
18:03I'll go back and answer some of those questions. But wanted to talk a little bit about Sam Hauser,
18:07because there's not every day right now that we get to hear from players directly.
18:11But I did get to speak with Sam yesterday at Dynasty Sports meet and greet signing with fans
18:17at the North Shore Mall in Peabody. And people drove from all over the place, I talked to some
18:22fans, really excited about the fact that they got to see him, excited fans that were wearing Sam
18:28Hauser jerseys, fans that brought in like miniature Larry O'Brien trophies, fans that had like the
18:352024 Celtics Championship banners that I think they're trying to get all the Celtics players to
18:40sign their banners. So that was a lot of fun to just see all the gratitude that fans had towards
18:46Sam Hauser. And we talked to him after, it was myself and Justin Turpin from WEI, they were
18:52there. And we asked him like, how many fans ended up asking you about next year and winning another
18:57championship when he said like 75% of fans asked me about a banner 19. So certainly, I think it
19:03reflects where Celtics fans are at right now. And that's at this point where they want to see
19:08another championship run. And I think that's the intention. And that's where, you know, Sam Hauser
19:12and the rest of the guys hope to go. Something else that Sam said that stood out to me is, you
19:17know, everybody wanted to be back. He really made that clear that, you know, talking to the other
19:22guys, everybody's really happy that everybody's back. You know, obviously, we've talked about this
19:27a little bit on the show, and it's just been really, really pretty widely discussed just in
19:31general. But the reality is, is that Sam Hauser is one of many players that signed contract
19:37extensions or re-signed with Boston this year. Obviously, Derek White signed his, Jason Tatum
19:43signed a Supermax extension, and then Namias Keita with Cornette and Xavier Tillman all re-signed on
19:48minimum deals. Luke for one year, Keita for three years, and Xavier Tillman for two years. So
19:56to bring everybody back, I didn't anticipate that that was going to be possible. I know for certain
20:01that some of those guys got more money from other teams. So the fact that they chose to come back
20:06reflects on just how much this team wants to get an opportunity to run it back and win all together
20:10again. And Sam talked about how happy he was that they all were able to be in that position,
20:14how grateful he was for the front office. Obviously, he signed a pretty good deal,
20:18four years, $45 million. You can't complain if you're him, and you kind of got that opportunity
20:23after a really good playoff run where he hit 11 threes in the NBA finals and was a really key
20:28piece down the stretch. So that was cool just to be able to hear how he's been enjoying his summer.
20:34Peyton Pritchard got married this past weekend. There were a lot of Celtics players there. He was
20:38there. The Larry O'Brien Trophy was there. Even former Celtics like Lamar Stevens was there.
20:44O'Shea Bursette and Sadie Mihalik, who I think are the two guys that are not going to be back from
20:49last year's team. Sadie Mihalik is officially signed with Utah. He was signed a four-year,
20:54$15 million deal, whereas O'Shea Bursette is still a free agent. So there's a small possibility that
21:01he takes that last spot. I don't anticipate that he'll take that last spot, but it is a possibility.
21:08So Sam talked about how excited and grateful he was for that. He also talked about how the
21:11fact that the Celtics believed in him early on, what it means to be able to stay with one team
21:16for a long stretch of time, considering the fact that they were the ones that, when he was
21:20undrafted, signed him to that two-way. He was wearing a Maine Celtics shirt. So that was cool.
21:26I think he likes wearing that shirt. It kind of pays homage to his roots with this organization
21:31in Portland. Obviously, he was a great G League player. To go from a great G League player in 2021
21:36to now being a key piece of a Finals championship team in 2024 is still a pretty,
21:40pretty sweet turnaround. So we chatted with him about that. I'm trying to think if there's
21:44anything else that I need to cover from that conversation. But just generally speaking,
21:49he seemed to be in really good spirits. He didn't want to get into the details of what the Larry
21:53O'Brien trophy might have experienced at Peyton Pritchard's wedding. I think that we've already
21:58heard. If you've heard, Wick has done an interview about how when Joe Mazzuola had the trophy for a
22:01few days, it came back all dented. I don't know the condition of the trophy right now, but it
22:06is pretty cool that Pritchard got to have his trophy on the cape for his wedding. Because
22:11I remember during the Finals, when the players were at all their different stations on the court,
22:15on media availability days, one of the questions that Pritchard was asked was, do you want to get
22:19the trophy for your wedding? And it was before game one. And so he was like, I don't even want
22:24to think about that right now, but that would be really cool. And so the fact that that panned out
22:28and this won the championship when he was able to bring the Larry O'Brien trophy to his wedding
22:33is pretty cool. And so that was kind of a full circle moment. But just in general,
22:37yeah, he seemed really happy that everybody was locked in. It really was kind of a unique
22:42offseason in the sense that it's super unusual to be able to bring back everybody and run it back
22:47with the literal exact same roster. I mean, the only difference right now is that you have Baylor
22:50Shireman in Seema Hyalik's place. And maybe that 15 roster spot becomes a big, maybe maybe
22:57a straight rush that comes back, maybe they leave it open. I think that's probably the most
23:00likely scenario. So with that, just a quick message from our friends over at PrizePix.
23:07And then in the meantime, feel free to continue putting in any questions you might have on the
23:11Celtics offseason, on my conversation with Sam Hauser, or on the Celtics schedule, any of those

24:56And obviously, we're going to have a lot more to talk about near training camp. I'll be going,

25:04and all that. So join now while we can just, while we're, you know, I'm just home and we're
25:09just reflecting on the season and talking about the year ahead. And then we'll have lots of live
25:13game time coverage during the year. So I thoroughly appreciate all of your support and appreciate
25:18people for tuning in. And yeah, so I'll just do a couple last quick questions here before we wrap up.
25:25Yeah, it was cool to see a lot of the Stay Ready crew at Pritchard's Wedding.
25:29I didn't even know that Blake Griffin was like, whatever you have to be qualified to be an
25:33officiant. So the fact that he was able to do that, and it sounds like he was cracking some
25:36jokes. But it was kind of a full, you know, a cool full circle moment to be able to see him.
25:43And, you know, he's obviously back, but guys that were traded midseason, like Lamar Stevens is back.
25:48And then a lot of obviously current players, Jalen Brown, Yimmy Echeda,
25:52Sevilla, I guess not a current player, Sam Hauser, probably others as well. And so,
25:58yeah, that was pretty cool. And then obviously some of the USA guys were not able to be there,
26:03Jason Tatum, Jalen Brown, Jason Tatum, Drew Holliday, Derek White. So he didn't get the
26:10full group, but I'm sure they'll get plenty of other opportunities to celebrate. And
26:15yeah, and then as far as I see a question here about Sam Hauser and participating in the three
26:19point contest, didn't ask him about that yesterday. I can definitely ask him about that in training
26:24camp if that's something that people are interested in. One of the things that I've noticed about
26:28sorry, about three point contest is just that it doesn't end up being like the sharpshooters that
26:33end up having that position, like the bench player sharpshooters. I feel like they like
26:37to have bigger names and sometimes it's not like the guys with the best three point percentages,
26:41but I would love, this is both on the NBA side and on the WNBA side. I would love to see
26:49the NBA actually select the people with the best three point percentage, even if those aren't guys
26:53that have like the biggest names. And even if those guys aren't like the flashiest people,
26:57just because they feel like it'd be cool. And obviously like if you get Steph Curry and Clay
27:01Thompson and all those guys to play, then like, that's great. But I remember a couple of years
27:04ago, they had Julius Randle on and I was like, let's bring like real shooters, like no disrespect
27:10to Julius Randle, but there's plenty of players that are, you know, that's their thing, it's
27:13three point contest. So it would be cool to see Sam Hauser, it'd be cool to see like a Drew Holliday,
27:18if he's having a great shooting season again, you know, he was great during the Olympics,
27:21obviously, and was actually the team's top three point shooter last year. So that would be great
27:27as well. But yeah, I would love to see that. So I think it'd be a lot of fun, all stars in San
27:32Francisco this year, I'll probably be out there. So be able to kind of provide updates on that
27:37front, but it should be, it should be a lot of fun. And this is the same thing on the WNBA front
27:41too, they didn't have like their best shooters there. And I think part of the tough thing is
27:45that, like you have to have buy in from the players themselves, obviously, like not everybody
27:48wants to do that. It was a whole controversy that Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Inescu weren't in the
27:53three point contest. So you have to make sure the players themselves actually want to do it.
27:56But I'm sure someone like Sam Hauser would love that opportunity. So yeah, I see someone here
28:03said they saw me in Summer League. I love when people come and say hi to me. So if you ever see
28:06me like during like the Celtics championship parade and some of the events around it, a lot
28:11of people came up to me, I think because there was so many diehard Celtics fans and signings
28:15and things. So it's always fun. So always feel free to come say hi. I very much appreciate it.
28:20Yeah, I do think Drew Holliday would be great in the corners, though it is kind of tough. Sometimes
28:25I feel like the three point contest, really good shooters, it's just a little bit different to go
28:29from being a really good shooter, to being a shooter at a three point contest, like it's just
28:33a little bit of a different dynamic, or you're shooting off the rack, you have to practice for
28:37it. So it doesn't always translate perfectly. If you have more of like a jump shot, sometimes that
28:41can be disrupted. If you have a slower, you know, slower release time or whatnot, obviously, that's
28:46hard too. And then I think sometimes those players rush a little bit. And so that ends up hurting
28:51their shot is the fact that they're rushing. So yeah, we'll see. I don't know how we got into
28:56the contest, but it's always fun to see. I don't think we'll see the only other Celtics maybe
29:00Jalen Brown will run it back with a dunk contest, but I don't think he will. He says that he might,
29:05but I don't think that necessarily he will. Question here about Tatum's shooting slump.
29:10I think you have to think about it as a standalone thing. Like he's obviously was a really good
29:17player throughout this postseason and also wasn't shooting well. And the fact that he's able to be
29:22so effective still, despite not shooting well is a great sign for how well rounded of a player he's
29:27become. But you want to see him emerge out of that slump. But I think it's going to take like some
29:31high volume shooting games, he's going to need to see the ball go through the hoop, but that's
29:35going to include free throws, layups, some easy ones, and then some rhythm shots getting to his
29:39spot. And you might have to have some bad shooting games early on. But I do think that he'll work
29:44through it. And I did not think that he was going to work through during the Olympics, because the
29:47Olympics is just not a time to work through shooting slumps when you have such limited shots,
29:52such limited touches, and obviously for him, limited minutes as well. So I wouldn't say I'm
29:57concerned. I will say that if we're seeing in by November, you know, he's had the first couple
30:04weeks of the season, he's still not finding his rhythm. Then I think you have to look at this as
30:07like a broader trend and not just a slump. If you guys know me at all, I always think that people
30:13overreact a little bit to shooting slumps. Like I think, you know, as a shooter, you have to just
30:17know that it comes and goes. And, you know, the great shooters have very minimal slumps, but even
30:22the shooters like Seth Curry, I mean, up until the two final Olympic games, he struggled a lot too. So
30:28it is, it is kind of tough to just see, to just recognize the fact that like, sometimes you just
30:34don't have it and you just have to kind of get out of your own head. And with Jason Tatum, like,
30:39I do think that he's in maybe a little bit more of a slump than a regular slump, just because
30:44it did kind of send throughout the post-season. He was, I believe, 28% from three for the entire
30:48playoff run. So that's pretty severe. Obviously didn't hit jumpers during the Olympic run, but
30:54I also would not be surprised at all if he comes out next year and shooting really well.
30:58So really curious to see how that'll look because obviously I think that the Olympic was a tough
31:02personal experience for him just with his fluctuating role, how much he was in the media,
31:06how much he was in the limelight, all of that. So I hope that he's able to come out of the gates
31:11firing and that he's able to kind of showcase the fact that this was not, this is not a real change
31:17in his shot. His shot does look a little awkward, but I think more than anything, it's confidence.
31:20And I'm sure that he's going to spend some time between now and November workshopping any small
31:25issues, any small changes that there might be that he needs to fix. So if there are no other
31:31questions, I'm going to wrap it up here and just thank you all for joining and feel free to DM me
31:36if you have any other questions about the schedule. Otherwise I'm excited that it's out.
31:41I'm excited that this is real and that we have a championship run that's going to begin again
31:46next year. So in just a couple of weeks, we're going to be talking about, you know, preseason
31:50Olympics begin preseason in Abu Dhabi. So that's exciting. I will not be going to Abu Dhabi, but
31:57you know, that'll be fun with two games against Denver in the preseason. When that first came
32:01out, I was certain that was going to be a finals repeat. And then obviously, you know, the Nuggets
32:06did not make the finals. But yeah, thanks so much everybody for tuning in. Appreciate it. Have a
32:12great rest of your week, a great evening. WNBA play resumes tonight. So if you're really missing
32:16basketball and you're open to tuning into the WNBA, I promise you it's super fun. So you will
32:23enjoy it. So games starting tonight. So feel free to enjoy those as you await the NBA season to
32:28continue. I covered the WNBA full time as well. So I'll be tuning into those games,
32:33enjoying those matchups, and I will see you all soon. Thanks so much.
