00:00And here we are a legitimately live garden let's go let's go let's go Sharad
00:18Blakely Jimmy just got a Bobby Manning Joe sweep of Oh John Zanis Joe so the
00:24family's here Joe so is watching over I want to thank everybody on Twitter and
00:39on in the chats that pressured the the powers that be to get me into the
00:44garden where I belong thank you guys appreciate it so awesome great honestly
00:49it's cool that we get to do this cool do we get to share this the culmination of
00:53four years of live you awake wonderful talk basketball and do a show yeah and
00:58we did it and you know it culminates in a 2024 NBA championship which was really
01:05the only acceptable out for this season and for this group of people covering we
01:11wouldn't accept yeah we wouldn't have accepted they owed it to us as much as
01:16they owed it to themselves into the fans here so for those of you who watched us
01:19for two and a half freaking hours earlier thank you thank you and those
01:24who are still back there the real amputation I don't what I don't know
01:27what's wrong with you but I'm happy to have you here so guys let's just take it
01:30down the line it's soaked in now for a couple of it's almost surreal right
01:35because you cover one of these things still celebrating back here doing it's
01:39different than being a fan you know you react differently because you spring to
01:42work mode and you do your thing but now that it's a couple hours later just walk
01:46it down the line Joe sway start with you just your kind of initial reaction
01:49on like they freaking did it oh it's unbelievable man to see these guys
01:53celebrate to see these guys be emotional the way they were I think that's a big
01:57part of like the great privilege we get to cover this right we've been seeing
02:03these guys for the most part last two three seasons you know talking about
02:06their potential talking about what they need to do to become champions but to
02:09see them do it the way they did it this place turned into a party in that fourth
02:12quarter to see these guys celebrating the hallways and you got the people's
02:15families here you know the white the whites the Jalen Brown's mom was here
02:20like and Derek white getting there at the podium when he was asked about Joe
02:24Mizzou though what a special moment that was but man that dude knows how to party
02:27too I could tell he came out here with all his friends and they're all
02:30celebrating here he's like man I barely even ate before this game I was so you
02:34know looking forward to what I think what was gonna happen and now here it is
02:37man the moment they all worked so hard for champions 2024 NBA champs Jalen
02:43Brown's your finals MVP him walking down the hallway with the cigar in one
02:48hand he had the finals MVP trophy in the other man Jason Tatum out here look like
02:54he was the first one that was in tears there we go you know the vibes I'm just
03:03soaking it all in guys to be completely honest with you man because again we've
03:07been covering this team for so many years throughout this entire chapter
03:10essentially and here it is man these guys earned it they deserve it
03:142024 NBA champions you can go down the line all these guys deserve it man and
03:18you you best believe they're out here partying just like that you know they
03:22could they know how much hard work they put into it and everything that they
03:25have coming to the man it's been it's been earned what stood out to me and I
03:29said this to John there weren't many guys on this roster who didn't do
03:35anything who did who came away from this team saying oh I didn't play or I didn't
03:39contribute I didn't do a little something on this run this is a pretty
03:41together group there's a team that needed pretty much all the aspects of
03:46the team through injuries or rest or whatever it might have been during the
03:50year you can probably count on one hand the amount of guys who didn't contribute
03:54and a lot of those guys might be part of this team into the future a couple free
03:58agents there's probably some tweaks around the edges here but this team by
04:06and large is gonna be back and they can try to do this again next year that's
04:09you calling a repeat are you already calling it they're gonna be the heavy
04:12favorite there's no doubt about it all right you heard it here first the Celtics
04:15they're gonna be champions they clearly are they should be the favorite though
04:19yeah I'm not gonna lose anything yeah um coast on what you guys say you know
04:25it's going into the season consider the the team to beat and to just be that
04:31team from start to finish didn't really take any days off they didn't really go
04:36into that huge slump you know yeah you had a couple stinkers that's gonna
04:40happen over any two-game stretch but they didn't really hit major adversity
04:44at any course of this season injuries I mean but like there wasn't like didn't
04:50sound like there wasn't like infighting it wasn't like they were pointing
04:53fingers at each other devastated yeah like an injury didn't derail them for
04:58no drama no injury no drama we had the most drama was probably on our show
05:03trying to figure out something to talk about on half half the time right or
05:07what or what Bobby was talking right what was that what it was you were you
05:10just stirring things stirring the pot sometimes we have to 100% yes we I have
05:15I'm sorry Joe Mazula's mother tell me that she's a big fan of the show as she
05:20should be well you're being sarcastic right now if she was like no I love I've
05:23got to watch this show well as soon as I get home she told mama Mazula thank you
05:27for watching to your son she tried she told me that Joe would love the show
05:33but he refuses to get into he doesn't this is not probably into probably for
05:37the best part about this this run that we've just witnessed is the pushback on
05:51the Jays not being able to play with each other narrative it seems that no
05:55matter what they've done individually there's always that well they can't win
06:00it together they break them up you never heard that in our show never but
06:04the way that they were able to finally figure out how to be impactful at a high
06:09level and do it on the biggest stage of all you know Jalen Brown being MVP at a
06:15time when if you go by game five Tatum was a better player in game five I
06:20thought but if you look at the course of the finals Jalen Brown certainly
06:23deserved and you look at the way the voting broke down 7-4 in favor of Jalen
06:28Brown being the MVP just a heck of a run by those two guys and in all the
06:35supporting cast guys Drew Holliday Sam Houser made plays Al Horford Derek why
06:40you go down the line and that is what makes this team so special the fact that
06:45there wasn't one or two guys that you could lock in on and say yep we limit
06:49them we're gonna win couldn't do that because Tatum had nights where he just
06:52wasn't good Jalen same thing and the next thing you know they go into whack-a-mole
06:56where someone else is popping up and giving you problems mm-hmm yeah I mean
07:00I don't it's I don't want to get into the Tatum and Brown narrative entirely
07:06because like they needed the help they needed the other guys there too and so I
07:12don't think it's a knock on Tatum and Brown to say you know the two you don't
07:18know like there's two there's superstar tandems out there that are excellent but
07:23if you don't have the parts and add the glue guys and the other serious guys I
07:27just I don't you know I they led the team John they did I'm not I'm not
07:32taking anything away from them I just think it's so hard to do what the
07:36Celtics did to assemble a team like this with with it and again it's not like
07:41just all-star caliber guys it's like guys who just do their job without egos
07:47without an ego every day and so you know we made the 2008 comparisons with
07:53this team on checking ego at the door and everybody just decided let's just
07:58win this thing but that happened later in their careers that's like the if I
08:03don't win it now I'm never gonna win it sort of thing right where you had guys
08:05who'd you know been individual stars on different teams for a while these guys
08:09are still 26 and 27 holidays wanted somewhere else you know Derek White is
08:15like the happiest guy in the world to be here you know and then Al Horford 38
08:20you know ageless at this point you bring in Chris Epps Porzingis a wild card
08:24you have no idea what you're gonna get out of him and he's like this happy
08:29smiling honest dude that everybody loves best friends with Jalen Brown like
08:33opens up Jalen Brown's personality in ways that we didn't see like it's the
08:38way it came together like that was very reminiscent of 2008 which is like
08:41immediately like oh my god these guys are amazing yeah like you and we Bobby
08:46and I in the last show when he popped on for a little bit we said you knew on day
08:50one with Porzingis goes off for 30 something points the first game you're
08:53like oh these guys are gonna awesome yeah you know and like he did it
08:56instantly and it lasted all year well that's a testament to Brad Stevens guys
09:01I mean that's a guy who was in the locker room give it to him that's a guy
09:04who was in the locker room you know knew what these guys needed knew the
09:07personalities that they needed and they went out and got him and not only did he
09:11know about the situation that the Celtics players needed but he knew that
09:14those other guys would fit because one of the personalities and two because
09:17there were in situations throughout their career that they were in need of
09:21being on a championship-caliber team whether it was Al Horford which was
09:24literally day one right trade for Al Horford soon as he became the president
09:27of basketball operations whether it's Chris das Porzingis and what he was
09:31doing in Washington like wait a minute is this thing being overlooked here this
09:33guy just was giving us fits he fits a lot of what we need especially when you
09:37look at what happened between the Celtics and the Miami Heat throughout that
09:40series you know so that's a that's a big hole that he knew that would be an
09:43upgrade at the center position and then drew holiday right the the guy who was
09:48so thank you Milwaukee we didn't even shout out Milwaukee yet the guy who they
09:52were didn't thank you Giannis for orchestrating that trade away because
09:55they thought that Damian Lillard was gonna solve all of their problems and
09:59guess what it didn't they fumbled the bag so bad the problems that extend
10:04beyond what drew holiday or whatever that they're missing from and they still
10:07didn't even figure that thing out but anyways that's beside the point it's
10:10like Brad Stephens just knowing those like exactly what to do what this team
10:14needed I mean it was huge obviously but we can't act like you know we get Brad
10:19Stephens without Danny H I mean if you want to go all the way back there making
10:23the trades for obviously you know the hardest trades that some GM's would have
10:27had a difficult job doing which is training Pierce Garnett you know down
10:33the line I just think all that stuff matters when you look at the way this
10:35of course creating Isaiah Thomas from the very beginning yeah right Isaiah
10:39Thomas like but but also just the criteria of knowing that look you do
10:43what's best for the team and and that's it it's not easy you're gonna have to
10:47make that phone call which which he did call Marcus Martin tears you know saying
10:50like hey even talking about the way things the way he had to trade Marcus
10:54made him emotional but he was able to put that to the side and know what was
10:57best for the team and that's essentially what put together this championship team
11:00and this championship window as quickly as they were able to put it together but
11:04that's how hard it is to win guys you had to hit a home run if you mentioned
11:07age you had to hit a home run literally five times to get right like okay you
11:15grab Jalen Brown people didn't necessarily want but imagine you take
11:18Chris Donner drug and bender or something like that see you later you're
11:22just spinning your wheels imagine instead of Tatum you take Josh Jackson
11:26all right no but I'm saying is like these were possibilities like this could
11:31go in our fault you know it takes so hard to dig out of these situations when
11:42you blow these things and you hit them look at Philly and their process and how
11:45many picks they smoked so you hit home runs and even if smart wasn't like
11:50all-star caliber home run core player you know at number six overall not quite
11:55the superstar you wanted but a core player for an extremely long period of
11:58time and then to make the trade as we said with Brad for for for Al you know
12:03you took a shot at Kyrie everybody does that thing ten times hundred out of
12:07hundred GM's make the same exact deal that they made for Kyrie and you bring
12:10in Gordon Hayward and you're doing everything right and you're attracting
12:13free agents for the first time ever and that didn't go well and for Brad to turn
12:16it around as quickly as he did his freaking insane with the Horford move
12:20and then holiday and then the 2021 roster was a mess it's incredible to
12:24turn Tristan freaking Thompson we're arguing over whether Tristan Thompson
12:31should be playing meaningful minutes and like not only that like I thought that
12:35was gonna be a great move bringing a guy he's been there before he knows what it
12:40takes to win around LeBron I'd like to have that one back I think he was like a
12:57super spreader in Cove it to on top of it yeah we can play the hits all night
13:04about all the moves they made they got them to this point to make that many to
13:07get there it's crazy but the big ones are the ones that came over the last
13:12year or so here because so many of them aren't legal anymore the Brogdon one
13:16isn't legal anymore you couldn't trade all those minimums for that guy holiday
13:21you couldn't trade Rob and Brogdon together if they try to do that today
13:26because of the new rules so they snuck in all those deals before the new rules
13:30were created that would prevent this kind of team from being put together and
13:33they have it yeah suckers whatever we're done the other thing you gotta
13:36take it to make it a lot of the deals have to stop the Celtics a lot of the
13:41deals that they made for players or players who hadn't quite reached their
13:47best version of who they are I mean Derek white when they made the trade for
13:51him and he had all those years left on his deal force it was like wait a minute
13:54what wait a minute Popovich is like the basketball coaching God and he's willing
14:00to give this guy with all these years and all he has done is just gotten
14:08better from one year from one month to the next and the thing that I love most
14:13about Derek white he's a clutch performer he's at his best when they
14:18absolutely need someone to deliver a couple big he has bailed this he's
14:23build this team out of so many damn fires and I think about how really great
14:27Jason Tatum is Derek white is a better player in those last-second late-game
14:33situation he's proven that over and over and over again that doesn't make Tatum a
14:37bad player it just makes Derek white someone who has a very specific role
14:41that benefits this team just like Tatum has a specific role that benefits this
14:45team and you start going down the line that's why they're champions because
14:49they all have very specific roles that don't necessarily overlap with what some
14:54of the other guys you know their roles don't overlap but their ability to be
14:58the guy could be any given night right so like when you're talking about Derek
15:03white that there's there's nights where Derek white is is that guy down the
15:06stretch or hitting that shot I mean tonight he had a couple big threes down
15:08the stretch in that fourth quarter when it looked like Celtics were going
15:12stagnant offensively and in and you know if it's not Derek white talk about you
15:16holiday I mean he kind of started things off in the first quarter with a few with
15:19a few baskets under the rim even though he missed a couple of point-blank as
15:23well but Tatum and Brown didn't did not have a hot start to this game but it
15:27took some of the contributing players to really get the Celtics in gear and then
15:31you know Tatum and Brown as they're known to do is we'll figure it out at
15:35some point for the most part but that was the difference this year and prior
15:39seasons is you didn't have the Drew holiday you didn't have the upgraded
15:43Derek white right I mean the first Derek white version of Derek that we got was I
15:47mean John had him shipped out for two second rounders I think he was one I
15:55didn't I had nothing to do with that but point being you got you got you got the
16:04you got the level up Derek white you obviously talked about Porzingis and
16:08what he's brought to this team when he was you know when he was healthy and
16:11able to do so and I think it was just so nice that he was able to Bobby can we at
16:15least can you see it now with I see it now okay you see the light here we go
16:20you see the light sign off do we have a light bulb the light bulbs going off
16:26what happened in this building and you saw the effect yes you saw you saw what
16:32it brought to the floor and he wasn't he wasn't I think his first stint was a
16:36little it was Roger Skelter but yeah you got out there after that I thought he
16:40actually just contributed I don't think he was just that he wasn't just a decoy
16:43or or a crowd pleaser I mean I think that he was able to have an effect out
16:46there you said something to in terms of ego shots though the ball got where it
16:51needed to go on this team and that's where Missoula gets credit is you had
16:55all these guys trying to fit together yeah you had all these people who had
16:58major roles in the past and you're like how's this gonna work especially Brown
17:02early in the season we said what's Brown's role gonna be on this team and
17:07that all got decided they didn't have to drop plays for guys or go into a
17:13huddle and say we got to get this guy going their offense was just find the
17:17guy with the worst matchup and that guy's gonna get the shots and more
17:19often than not that ended up becoming Brown and that's how he ends up
17:23becoming finals MVP here I said to John we had a conversation in November on
17:28this show about this might not work for Brown he might not have a role on this
17:33team he might be the guy who this messes with the most and for him to win finals
17:37MVP after all that it's pretty wild yeah it's unbelievable but you also got to
17:42remember to like no other team the NBA has a lineup of five guys that can all
17:46shoot the ball I mean that's what really makes the whole like oh well you live or
17:51die by the three it was like well yes but you know when these guys are playing
17:55the right way especially on the defensive end of the floor those shots
17:58are more likely to go down because these guys they they're good shooters it's not
18:01about like you're trying to make these guys in that they're already they're
18:04already like built that way you know so I felt like it makes sense that the most
18:09efficient guy Jalen Brown kept his efficiency throughout most of the
18:12postseason wins Easton Carver's final MVP and they come out here to win NBA
18:17finals MVP this place went nuts when his name was announced part of that I feel
18:20like was a little surprised to it was surprising but also the other part was
18:23they agreed with it did you agree Jimmy hold on timeout I have to do something
18:29we have a small technical thing that we have to deal with so it's not gonna do
18:34anything bad but I gotta just tell everybody here you just have to pause
18:37for 30 seconds while we switch out a battery you're gonna get a screen that
18:41says wait for it it's gonna be a countdown we are not going off the air
18:44we just need quickly to switch something up and we will be right back starting
18:49now
19:00you
19:07you
19:13because we have a be right back tell me when are we good we're back we're back
19:19we're back we're back is the thumbs up good yes we're back we're back huh what's
19:24thumbs up mean we're not sure he looked at me like I don't look at me kind of
19:29like she was like he was shaking a check guys or something yeah I feel bad for
19:34the people who thought they could run to the bathroom yeah I was surprised when
19:47they named Brown I know you were surprised cuz I had asked you before you
19:51left who your MVP was and you said it was Tatum and you said it was Tatum I
19:54mean in your defense you've been saying it's Tatum the whole time I thought it
20:00was a toss-up I thought Tatum had a three it was Brown it's there where we
20:04argued yeah through three I thought it was Brown right by a million miles in
20:08Vegas thought so as well I thought and you were still insisting Tatum and I
20:12think that's where we disagree right but over the course of last few games well
20:15Tatum had a slightly better game than Brown in game four and then I you know I
20:19think it tonight Tatum had a bit better game so that might have tilted it I
20:24think Tatum had a more like he had more opportunities tonight to be a better
20:30player it's just that the ball was in his hands more he had like he took more
20:33shots I mean he kind of missed a few shots I think if he had hit them and he
20:37may have gotten that maybe you would have gotten that nod but we've talked
20:41about it a couple times already on the show you weren't part of it but
20:44basically does it matter who the MVP was because the way this team played this
20:48year Bobby they could have shared it there wasn't an MVP really right I mean
20:52it was a yeah they couldn't can you I'm glad that they didn't share because I
20:54would have just been so silly but I guess the point I'm trying to make is
20:58this is that this has been team basketball all season long this is the
21:01best team from start to finish whether and again it could be Tatum when it
21:05could be Brown when I but it's also been holiday it's been white it's been
21:08Porzingis I mean hell Horford's had a huge effect on this team so you're not
21:13gonna look back on this playoffs and say whoa Jalen Brown put the team on his
21:17back or whoa Jason Tatum put the team on his back they had their moments but
21:20everybody had their moments and that's why ultimately this team ended up
21:23winning the whole thing is because they were the deeper the deepest team even
21:26Houser sure I was I'd mentioned Houser a few times today you know guys
21:30contributed he was an MVP but you didn't need an MVP type of performance
21:36to win the championship on this team because you were getting enough from the
21:41other guys around it so it would have been different I guess if one of those
21:45guys did go out for 40 each night or had a 50 burger or whatever but they didn't
21:49you're not gonna look back and say wow iconic elite you know we witnessed
21:56greatness out of any of these players but you're gonna look back and say that
22:00team was unstoppable that was a team that you put them against any other team
22:03and they're gonna figure out a way to win that one I do quibble with that it's
22:07had because I know when Tatum and Tatum said it earlier that he had that kind of
22:10weird comment about like well none of you guys we didn't write any awards
22:14which but it's not always sexy but but the thing is now I think we're actually
22:19we've taken the team thing a tad too far in making it seem like again you
22:25know like it's the 2004 Pistons which it's it's not Jason Tatum is a there's a
22:31three-time no they first team all NBA fifth and fifth and sixth and MVP voting
22:37he's a star you maybe he's not like that uber you know top two or three guy that
22:44people you know are trying to sneak him into that conversation but at worst he's
22:48somewhere in that five to eight range you know like but they're still your two
22:51best players Jalen Brown it's hard to argue he's anywhere outside I mean he
22:55finished 16th overall in all NBA voting he's somewhere in that range too these
22:59are two stars but they still were yours two stars but they don't need to drop 40
23:04tonight to all defensive players who have been all-stars with an NBA champion
23:08Al Horvath like this is star power on this team I do think it's discrediting
23:13that the elite talent level of the best players when we just refer to it as a
23:19team I think it's clicked a little too far I mean it's both they have a ton of
23:23individually talented players I guess that's what I mean yeah but also played
23:27as a team I think like we we took a little credit away from how good each of
23:31these guys individually by calling them this great team and I think that's what
23:35nationally is gonna happen I think Celtics fans are gonna have a beef with
23:38that too when it's just you know they're like a super team is what I assume right
23:42you're talking about a roster where you look at the top seven to eight players
23:46other than Sam how's everyone is either a lottery pick or first round a damn
23:50near and when you start getting players who are late first late first right him
23:57paying pretty late first run and redraft will be different yeah right but you
24:01have one guy in your top eight who wasn't a first round pick that's deep I
24:09mean that's that's a pretty damn deep squad you got there and you're talking
24:13about you know with Al Horford Tatum and Brown guys were taking the top three top
24:17four so let's not pretend as if they got a bunch of guys that Danny Ainge had to
24:23like wipe the dirt off of and right no I mean the middle of nowhere you know
24:28good mix I mean it's a different really good when I say a team I don't mean like
24:32the Pistons at all I mean like they're just deep like they're all-stars like I
24:37don't mean all-stars but they're all stars in the world they have to play
24:41right so yes Tatum and Brown are the top of that list but they don't need to go
24:4740 40 points a night in order to like Luka does you know what I mean like they
24:51don't because of the extra help that they do have again from other star
24:55players I'm not trying to take anything away from holiday who's now a two-time
24:58champ and still considered I think by his peers is the best on ball defender
25:02in the NBA and certainly Derek White with holiday they're both on the all
25:06defense all defensive team they are the best defensive backboard in the NBA so
25:09there's a lot of help on this team and it should it should definitely be noted
25:13but that's my point though is that it's a super team like I'm not gonna look
25:17back on it and say even if even though Tatum is a all-nba I'm gonna look back
25:22and say this team was just stacked it didn't matter who the thing that
25:25surprises me though most about this Celtics team is that you've got all this
25:29talent you've got a lot of young guys and yet you don't have a lot of it in
25:34intra squad bickering right that often comes about when guys are on to come up
25:39when guys are trying to figure out their place in you know the NBA ecosystem and
25:44that's a credit to Joe it is it is because because that's something that
25:48has to trickle down from the top of the command center and that's Joe and to me
25:53it's it's really it's one of the biggest surprises about this Celtics team in the
26:00grand scheme of things the fact that they don't have those type of issues
26:03because even if it's not talked about you can see it on the court when those
26:07issues occur you know guys looking off other guys when when they shouldn't right
26:11you know a lot of miscommunications and then it's there's no clear no ulterior
26:17motives right right but again ego was not an issue for these guys this this
26:23this season and the fact that they're still young still on a come up probably
26:28not gonna be an issue going forward can you guys remember a recent again maybe
26:32there was one extremely recently but do you remember a recent a recent NBA
26:36Finals where every single team that you played was an afterthought and obviously
26:41had the Golden State one where they just ripped through that at 16 to 1 it's
26:45really incredible it doesn't matter you will remember nothing you as some fans
26:49will remember a little bit of kite dragging Kyrie but beyond that it's
26:54pretty friggin I struggle to remember that I did too I forgot Cleveland I was
27:00like Miami blah blah blah Dallas it was so quick and the other was over yeah you
27:04know I just they just toss them aside it wasn't just under pressure of being live
27:08I literally could not recall a single thing about the Cleveland series but
27:12that was like yeah I mean they think it's like everything was an afterthought
27:16and this team was a freaking afterthought and I don't want to spend a
27:18ton of time here just dragging Dallas but they sucked and like I mean they
27:22weren't like that did but they weren't anywhere near the Celtics caliber and I
27:27again just no one was national media running away with dumb bored narratives
27:33of like whoa they're gonna I mean the fact that like nine I'm not just dragging
27:38on ESPN here but like I think it wasn't just the hot take mongers on ESPN their
27:43basketball analysts were picking duck what what's wrong with you this is a way
27:48themselves man this is the weakest clearly the easiest matchup what happened
27:54to your brains that you started to think that this team you know they
27:58thought they knew ball way more than they did know so there was such an also
28:05ran when knowing ball goes wrong but they thought that because the Western
28:08Carvers landscape was so tough that like because it was so hard for the Dallas
28:11Mavericks to break through they thought that that was gonna carry over into a
28:14team like the Southerns but they had never faced a team with this much death
28:17they never faced a team with that was riding high on a winning streak the way
28:20the Southerns were so I'm with you I don't understand why ESPN would choose
28:23them but I think they were looking at the stars saying like oh well those guys
28:26can carry them to the finals those guys at the end of the day you know or at
28:30least Tatum and Brown they're gonna buckle underneath the pressure it was
28:32like what why would that happen that they been here before and you know they
28:36were one game away after blowing I mean after being down 3-0 against the Miami
28:41Heat and Tatum went down all that stuff like I feel like something's never got
28:43the benefit of the doubt because they looked at the path of Dallas Mavericks
28:46had to go to but it's like yeah but they never played a team like the Boston
28:49Celtics and we found out what happens when they do a complete team like the
28:52Celtics by the end of the series fucked around and found out as yeah they
28:56messed around and found out for real Jimmy because at the end of the series
28:59we knew that 244 a.m. we could say fuck around they knew the deepest team was
29:05gonna was gonna win that's exactly what happened but the ESPN and the analysts
29:08and the other guys in national media they gave these guys a benefit of the
29:11doubt I don't understand why you know they gave Luca and Kyrie the benefit of
29:15the doubt and let's be real they caught breaks they certainly did Mitchell
29:19Butler Halliburton that's a pretty murderous role of stars who went down
29:25and didn't play multiple games they did what was gonna happen what was gonna
29:28happen yeah I know Albert Mitchell was gonna carry the Cavs to four wins he
29:33started that series Bobby no right and you're still gonna win those series
29:37you're still gonna probably going to win the championship if those guys played so
29:42what so why why do we even worry about that I mean if basically what we were
29:46coming to the conclusion is instead of beating this team in five games it might
29:49take you six you're still gonna win the series and frankly I think the
29:56Celtics what they've shown us time and time again is that the better the
29:59opponent the more locked in and focused they are right so I'm not even I mean
30:03like Cleveland if Donovan would have been healthier all those games I would
30:08have gone five I mean they may have slept I was gonna say if Jimmy Butler
30:12played for Miami could they may have slept them yeah and you you didn't play
30:16the stars in those series but to me you got some out of each of those series
30:21Miami's defense is such a potent threat yeah Cleveland I thought played them
30:25great defensively stacked the paint in a way that you were gonna see against
30:29Dallas and Indiana that's like the most competitive sweep you'll ever see they
30:34were down in three of those games years ago you had to win crunch time games in
30:38three of those three three of the four games were pacers you know to win it was
30:43so yes very competitive yeah Indy put them put them where they needed to be so
30:48it's hard to not say that Indy was the toughest matchup before they were so the
30:51fact is sorry Dallas from a winning percentage I would agree easily yeah it
30:56wasn't the hardest run ever you certainly got some breaks with the other
31:00stars going down but those were still incredibly challenging series despite
31:05them being short despite them taking care of business and those stars being
31:08out so that allowed them to dominate Dallas the way they did I thought the
31:12Celtics were really tested coming out of the East and remember the Celtics played
31:15a large chunk of the playoffs without their X-Factor without one guy that we
31:21said from the beginning of the season and we said during the season and we
31:24said going to the playoffs will be the difference maker for the Celtics to get
31:27that championship and for them to consistently win without him not only in
31:31the regular season but also in the playoffs where the stakes are their
31:34absolute highest it says a lot about their team and a lot about their ability
31:39yeah I mean it well yeah I mean Al is that's this is what Al does I mean this
31:45is who he is and what's what's gonna what's up with the engine and someone
31:50just put up the comment imagine healthy KP through the playoffs how ridiculous
31:54it is they may not always cancel like two of the series they just don't like
31:58I know I'm sorry like this is a five-game sweep and in Porzingis
32:05effectively missed half of it you know yeah you know going out you know early
32:10in game to it this wasn't even a contest with Porzingis this was not a contest
32:15game one so this is another thing that I'm gonna lament a little bit that the
32:19we didn't the national you know media didn't see the full force of the Celtics
32:25might you know here because despite them going 16 you know me I'm the
32:33furthest thing from a Celtics apologist you're gonna find here like the whole
32:37like trying to like make excuses for the team bucking that but I think everyone
32:41just had so many things wrong about this team entering the playoffs and I really
32:45do think it's because they beat the crap out of the East all year and people just
32:50decided that they were bored with it yeah and they they earned themselves a
32:53bad reputation last couple yeah I mean last year was a disaster hey they had a
32:57great record they had their moments but they had to change the team they had to
33:02shake things up they had to find a new identity Joseph yeah but I mean disaster
33:08I don't know this is a win down three nothing to the eighth seed in these
33:11finals went down though we all forget that like if they were down three
33:16nothing before that I get that Bobby but the fact that they had the heart in the
33:19fight to go all the way back and look I'm not saying that like that saved Joe
33:23I'm not saying that night I was like oh well too bad you win something lose
33:26something no obviously we were frustrated we were like man what a way
33:28to blow it but I think when you're a year removed from it you're like well
33:32if Tatum plays maybe things happen differently maybe things or whatever the
33:36case may be but either way they learn from that you know and I think that's
33:39what the biggest takeaway about this year was I mean Jalen Brown said that he
33:43was embarrassed about what happened in game seven it was the ongoing narrative
33:46before and after he signed that max deal the richest deal in NBA history and then
33:51now he goes out there and shows it what he did throughout this postseason what
33:54he did all season long man he's he's worth every dime so I think all of that
33:58plays a part into what led to their focus what led to their overall just
34:04connected connectedness you know if you will with Joe Mazzola and what he's been
34:08preaching and obviously vacation and obviously drew holiday and Chris
34:14Dasport-Zingas where I was icing on the cake I mean it all worked out but I
34:18don't look at last season as if like man this team was a disaster or like man you
34:23got Marcus out of here that was the that's what they needed no I just think
34:26they all learned from that and obviously the two added pieces which sacrificed
34:30Marcus right obviously it was worth it at the end of the day I still want to
34:33give Rob a ring he did he did he said the students have become the teachers
34:45he said he said he was like I'm the most cliche Kyrie you could have bet a
34:50million dollars that he was gonna say that again like a line that you see on
34:54NBA 2k at the end of the season when you get the bubble quotes and the very end
34:58and Jimmy and I joked about this the whole run my career mode Kyrie treated
35:02this entire finals run as if it was the rehabilitation of Kyrie Irving like does
35:08everybody like me yet like it's almost like he didn't care about losing even
35:11after losses he's like you know it's a journey like it was a TED talk every
35:17day I was a Dallas fan I'd be like just get serious
35:2616 shooting we get something besides fire for 16 shooting from his attitude
35:31after and oh my god I'd be John you weren't scared of him for a second in
35:37the series no I did not think this was a Kyrie series no it's not for him I
35:42can't play in Boston there's too many guys who can Lucas Luca he's gonna get
35:48his no matter what he said he wasn't that great either I mean they made him
35:51work but he's just tough he's tough I didn't think Kyrie would get get it
35:54going against these guys against the guards that they have even if you switch
35:57on to different people I just never ever ever ever ever I the other stupidest
36:03thing that was ever said before this was greatest backcourt ever like come on
36:07guys they're good but like come on like that back whatever might might be on the
36:13court I hate that soda that's what all this is about I like like that that
36:17three-week span that drove me insane because number one it was Denver which I
36:21kind of agreed with I'll be honest going into the postseason I said that's the
36:25one team I think that could beat the Celtics in a best-of-seven series but
36:27then a week later oh it's the Minnesota Timberwolves wait a minute what did they
36:30do to earn this okay I get it fighting for number one and all that stuff but in
36:33the best-of-seven series really they're the favorites to win it all against the
36:36Celtics and then came the Dallas Mavericks that's what I do the line so
36:39yeah you guys I mean national media talking heads whoever you want to label
36:43them however you want to label them like it's anyone but the Celtics isn't it
36:47like that's that's the way I saw it yeah at a certain point everyone's just got
36:50to kind of eat it but they won't it doesn't matter and then you know that
36:54you know that Kyrie just didn't show up and Lucas got it and whatever that
36:58stuff's so dumb never mind the fact that he's got their ass kicked by a better
37:01team yeah it's just they just got they got beat by a much much much much better
37:06team I mean it's just a much better team and think about where they stand
37:10Luca Kyrie those guys are gonna go into next year and say we got to do more we
37:16got to do more we got to get better us to Celtics are like do we have too much
37:20yo-kai all right you know yoga just kind of going to next year saying I get to do
37:24more I got to get better Giannis all the way down the line the Celtics just roll
37:28in the next year and say let's just do what we did again yeah that's all he
37:31really has literally yeah it doesn't take him doesn't have to level up yeah
37:35Brown doesn't have to level up they might I think you have they could but
37:38you can't be complacent no you have to have the mindset of we got everyone else
37:43is gonna get better we have to get better so they do have to figure out ways
37:45to get better and the good news is Bobby they're still at an age where they can
37:48get better right I mean I'm not saying every single player on the team but you
37:52know you're talking about your team talking about Brown there's parts of
37:54their game that they can improve upon still I mean we've seen it with Tatum
37:57this year whether it's the playmaking whether it's the rebounding we saw with
38:00Brown whether it was a decision-making just scoring Derek White improved his
38:05game pretty much in every single facet of it wouldn't be something if we get a
38:09white extension tomorrow that'd be better than the championship yeah much
38:12better let's get him in front of that contract yeah and a Porzingis trade I
38:16know you were talking about that too let's get into that a little bit no
38:20we're not gonna do that I'm not ready for dynasty talk or offseason talk yet
38:30but I do think it's very fair it's you know kind of you know agree with what
38:35you guys said there's there's no reason they won't roll run it back now nobody
38:41here but that's not something we decided tonight when this team was put together
38:46and they immediately I mean look at look at what's happened to the team
38:50already you know you have Tatum on a supermax you signed Brown already you
38:55brought in Porzingis and immediately signed into extension then you signed
38:58Drew to an extension as well and now white you're locking it up they have to
39:03re-sign corn Luke oh sorry yeah they have to but they might though they
39:15should give Tillman that extension when he's up tell me just think the order in
39:21which Cornette came you know we were just talking about Luke Cornette's a
39:25champion all the day poor thing you talk to and somehow we jumped we jumped down
39:30to Cornette that's fine bottom five yeah no but I wanted Luke to catch a lob so
39:38bad one of the great one of the great one of the one of the bummers just from
39:44an entertainment standpoint is what a shitty second half it was the third
39:48quarter was a both teams played horribly or just you couldn't get anything going
39:53and then you didn't have any like victory cigar Gino moments the last like
39:57four possessions five possessions was just Tatum I so yeah it was like Brown
40:01I so four minutes three minutes like I want the scrub to come in and friggin
40:06windmill dunk it or something or a lob to Cornette right he needed something to
40:10set the crowd how about Richard though that was happening when Tatum hit those
40:15two back-to-back buckets timeout we knew that was it victory cigar time at that
40:19point but the last five six minutes I wanted something fun right right you
40:23know to happen I try to ask him in the locker room again it was so crazy in
40:27there but he'd demand a trade he was gone they had a trade set up him and
40:31gallon Ari for Jakob Perdo last year and he would have been down in San Antonio
40:35scoring 20 25 points a game we would have been like why'd they get rid of
40:38Pritchard 25 maybe on that team Pritchard Pritchard Pritchard's like before they
40:47before they remember the in baseball before the nerds ruined baseball John
40:52you could have a guy come in and just be a one one out special specialist yeah
40:56that's Pritchard now just comes in for the half-court I friggin love that right
41:00just comes in right there and I was like look here he comes yeah threw it up they
41:06put it in four seconds left kid goes leave him open leave a light on that's
41:11the that's the you know if you ever if you're ever one of those fans that like
41:15tries to rush to the concession to the bathroom just before yeah you know that
41:19the stance so I was I was running down to go see you know someone who was in
41:25the seats and everyone came flooding out of that I saw it I've never seen a
41:30happier group of people coming out of the arena for the bathroom every hit that
41:37like the high everybody's riding on the phone everybody knew is coming so but
41:47then just like talk about mood just carry you through the whole halftime you
41:51know oh so good flew by yeah that was terrific went from 18 to 21 that got the
41:59vibes yeah that got the vibes really I mean you couldn't go in a half any
42:02better than Dallas you're just like oh yeah Luca he looked at a thing going
42:06just like really yeah that's what we're doing yeah man great stuff that was
42:10awesome great moments here at TD Garden yeah it was that was great it's like a
42:16type moment which is like probably halfway to the Cape now so I remember
42:20it oh you know wait the entire fourth quarter was just like a long that was a
42:23party yeah just a party the whole time but again amazing there was still a
42:28little bit of trepidation even I felt like it was a 19-point lead for the
42:32entire game like sweating it you know I was like just like drop the leg drop the
42:38hammer you know yeah and they didn't quite Dallas had they just they had
42:42nothing they just had nothing that was fitting we kept waiting all year for the
42:46old Celtics to come back or their brutal collapse to happen and never did again
42:52they only lost two games in a row at most all year so yeah they were a
42:56different team they were clearly different we are we're approaching
42:59three o'clock Eastern Time and we are going to wrap it up because we have been
43:03going for a long time and so I will get the merch though first okay

45:132024 champions man like I know we all expected this thing to happen I know that
45:16the bar was set high you know but this team gave they showed us that they were
45:21capable more than capable you know the talent with what they've been through I
45:25mean the way they went through the postseason getting to the finals all
45:29that and they deserve every moment of just celebration praise man like look I
45:36don't even want to hear anyone talk about dynasty for the next week or so
45:39just soak this one in all right this team worked their asses off I feel like
45:43the national media was just like anyone but the Celtics but they went through it
45:48and I'm just so proud of them honestly man that moment for Jason Taino on the
45:52sideline being emotional with it without Horford I mean Jalen Brown the
45:55way he looked when he first heard his name called his finals MVP all that
45:59stuff man you guys earned it so proud of this team you know for you Celtics fans
46:03out there man I know you guys didn't give up I know you guys saw this coming

46:24they got to say but a so I haters enjoy this ish hi haters
46:29bye haters enjoy your offseason but especially you saw these fans out there
46:32man nice well said just where you go I'm so thrilled Al got one that's the
46:41biggest thing to me yeah he he was ready in 2022 the team wasn't 2023 comes back
46:48at a higher level 2024 he's still here he's still starting he's still carrying
46:53a massive weight 35 40 minutes at 38 and he's gonna be back next year I don't
46:58have any doubt about that just talking to everyone around him he wants to play
47:01for as long as he can he's even talked about that so I don't think there's any
47:05doubt that I was gonna come back and try to win a second here I would I hope so I
47:11think I think he's he owes it to the team talk about like is all gonna hang
47:15over he's not hanging it up he's gonna play yeah he's gonna play scared
47:19because they sold his house or at least is on the market but he's just getting a
47:22bigger house all right he's got a new kid he's got a bit the family continues
47:25to grow he's moving on up moving on up yeah
47:29to make that move yeah he's still getting paid to play he's gonna show
47:33exactly crazy his arrival change everything here it gave him a
47:37credibility it gave them a star he well he's there oh yeah it first free agent
47:42that's the first time but then he left and we're mad at him for that and then
47:48definitely when they brought him back they saved him from OKC right yeah that
47:54was that was Brad's training camp though I mean training camp the training staff
47:58rather that uh you know prepared him for that yeah that for that next stint with
48:01the Celtics did them a real solid they took on Kemba too yeah I'll keep mine
48:06quick I mean this year felt different from the start and we've been a part of
48:10a lot of seasons you know dating back years and years and just when this team
48:16got assembled and it was quick like you guys talked about and then getting
48:18holiday right before the season started like that just felt like wow this team
48:24is built to win a championship they need to understand this moment they need to
48:28understand that that you know on paper they've got everything they need they
48:32just got to go out there and do it Bobby and Josue and they did and I mean it
48:37just feels like I don't want to say that I'm not surprised it makes it seem
48:41like I'm a know-it-all but it did feel like this season was different there
48:44were a couple little little blips in the radar and all that stuff but for the
48:48most part you got a team that was expected to win they did that they
48:54carried that through into the playoffs and they and they they saw the whole
48:57thing through so mission accomplished I guess I would say I mean again like you
49:02guys I I feel the same way there's no reason to believe that they can't repeat
49:07next season yeah I mean they'll go into it certainly as a favorite but for me
49:11just watching the way Jalen and Jason evolved as a tandem you know they've
49:18caught a lot of heat and a lot of flack for not being able to work as well as
49:22some might think they should and I like the way that they have figured this out
49:27on their own and they don't necessarily subscribe to the narratives that most
49:33people want them to have like you know Tatum you're the best scorer and so you
49:37go out there you get points and Tatum's like you know I can drop dimes too and I
49:41can rebound too right and Jalen you're not really a great shooter and yet Jalen
49:46is drilling the biggest shots in the postseason being really aggressive
49:52offensively and giving himself a chance to be an elite defender something that
49:57his talent and physical gifts should afford him the opportunity to do that
50:01and it seemed like this year he finally started putting that to work at both
50:05ends of the floor so just watching the way those two have grown then winning a
50:08championship and again your two best players are 27 and 26 years old and
50:13that's the thing it's just a double downer and I think that was huge
50:17well yeah but I think that's the big thing and the big takeaway is you know
50:20for a long time the thought was well just get them more help and then you
50:27would get them some help and maybe it was or it wasn't enough and then you you
50:31know you get to the finals you fall short and you think it's coming and then
50:34last year you know kind of falls flat and looks ugly and you start to question
50:39like yeah is it them you know and then you put a team together around them and
50:44like fair or not fair if you didn't win that's who you would look at you would
50:49have looked at Tatum and Brown and I think if I regardless of the fact that
50:55they did win I think it was if you didn't win it was because winning is
51:00hard not because they necessarily choked it because they showed that level
51:04of maturity that they didn't show in years past where they knew what it took
51:08just sometimes it's just hard doing it and they did it so like I think you can
51:13put a lot of those questions to rest and I think it changes you like now and
51:17forever now that you've know you've done it it's it's hard to repeat because it's
51:22hard to win but the fact that they know that they can do it themselves as the
51:28front guys they're cemented in there so that changes it a lot and we've been
51:31talking could be better next and they absolutely could be better because you
51:35look at and again the 2008 comparisons the 2009 team was better they were so
51:40good they would have steamrolled if Garnett doesn't go down with an injury
51:45that team was murdering people so yes they absolutely can hit another level I
51:51think Brown and Tatum can hit another level and I think they play together
51:54another year and they can hit another level so I think you have that to look
51:57forward to before we wrap it all up I do want to just kind of say a series of
52:02thank yous across the board we'll start with the with the head honcho Nick
52:06Jelso without whom none of this is possible Nick had a vision Nick had a
52:10dream it was Celtics late-night show believe it or not which is what we're
52:15doing right now that's what CLNS stands for. It's happening. It's happening. It's happening. It's the Celtics late-night show. We're literally doing it Nick we're doing the thing we're doing the
52:26name yeah and so this began as internet radio and a blog and like please just
52:31let me be near the Celtics because I think it's fun and it's turned into
52:35something that I hope you know you know you guys all enjoy. Worldwide. And that we
52:39love a worldwide. We're shipping hardhats all over the place. Nigeria wherever.
52:43Philippines. So we do appreciate that. Guy Neer the guy who you know helps us pay
52:49the bills without Guy Neer director of sales we wouldn't be able to do any of
52:54this stuff George Dinello who probably keeps us out of jail by making sure that
52:59the books are clean and we like it makes that makes that all work behind him
53:05please yeah yeah yeah keep George please behind the scenes we have to give a
53:09monster shout out and Amit has to come from behind the camera
53:24shout out to everyone in the discord that I talk to all the time. Oh yes my guy right here Amit.
53:29Yeah shout out to the discord he's saying. Shout out to the chat. Discord still going strong huh.
53:37Amit is a guy Jackson Tolliver new producer we brought him behind the
53:41scenes he's done a phenomenal job through all of this Joey Capone as well
53:46and that's just the CLNS media crew across the board Joe Sway Bobby Jimmy
53:50Sherrod tireless work doing all of this stuff look we're not gonna pretend it's
53:55actual work we're sitting here we're talking about sports but it's a
53:58commitment from these guys and they do it and they do it well and so thank you
54:03to all of these guys and we have to thank you guys the chat yeah the fans

54:19you for bringing that up John I just said that the end of my my spiel at the
54:23end but yes seriously man you guys you guys made you guys are what make this
54:26show what it is we're gonna continue to grow obviously but that wouldn't be
54:29possible without you guys yeah it's a lot 100% and like I'm almost embarrassed
54:34by someone's like I watch you and I'm like why you know because it just feels
54:40like we're just goofing around let's do this mom approached me today man like
54:43this is incredible seriously man this show is really taking on it is huge it
54:46is funny because the whole point of the show when we started it was just like we
54:51just wanted it to be like friends talking about sports because we weren't
54:54allowed to like so I hate you I just do this like yeah I keep it light just keep
55:01it casual just just act normal I'm like alright and here we are doing it still
55:05doing it yeah and it's fun because it's just we kind of just spoke it into
55:09existence yeah we just did it and all of a sudden it became a thing and it became
55:13popular weirdly enough because of you guys and I'm not you know I don't think
55:18it's bragging to say it's probably the most watched or consumed Celtics podcast
55:22in the market which is phenomenal phenomenal no we brought people in the
55:27building that's what they want like people all over the world want to see
55:30what it's like in here they want to see the interviews and fall and you know
55:34that's that's the cool thing but I think they also I think we also not to toot
55:37our own horns but I think we connect with we we connect we have like talk to
55:40the people we have a relationship with these guys right with you guys we don't
55:44just talk to you we read the chat even when you say nasty stuff yeah people say
55:51hurtful things to me all the time oh my god you guys hate me yeah but it's fine
55:54it's fine I thrive off the hate. I might have taken about three weeks off from reading the conversation.
55:59I hate ourselves. That's alright. We had our ups and downs you know yeah no it is great so thank you very
