00:25It was crazy.
00:26Again we'll do a quick hitter.

00:57We'll talk about the quarterbacks.
00:59Drake May was sort of the the entree.
01:01He was what everybody wanted to see in this game.
01:03Nobody cared about the appetizer and Jacoby it was one driving out and then and then may
01:08gets it in.
01:09You know instantly it's like all right let's see what we got here.
01:11He goes one drive he goes two for three for 19 yards converts the first down with two
01:16first downs on the driver leave.
01:17The first one was the first run to reminder Stevenson.
01:19Yeah.
01:20Second one was the dump off to Antonio Gibson.
01:23It's like all right we're kind of cooking here we're going to see the kid and then the
01:25next drive Bailey's dad becomes in and runs like seven straight.
01:28So that was probably disheartening for Patriots fans certainly disheartening for us in the
01:33press box trying to figure out you know what we're going to get what we're going to see
01:36in this number three pick.
01:37It's early.
01:39There's not a lot to glean from it.
01:40But what did you make of really the quick the quick leash on on Drake May tonight.
01:44It made sense given the offensive line situation I feel like that's the only real thing you
01:49can take away from why Drake May wasn't out there for very long because when he actually
01:53did come into the drive after Jacoby reset single drive he still had the starting offensive
01:57line out there which was notable to me.
02:00I thought OK you know they're finally giving him reps with the top offense right.
02:03I figured it was maybe just to see how he could respond with those guys obviously with
02:08better protection around him then he gets pulled at the time like when this was going
02:12on live.
02:13I think we were of the mindset of is this a showcase for Bailey's happy.
02:17Like is this.
02:18And the thing is they've been splitting Joe Milton and Bailey's happy.
02:21The quarterback three reps for pretty much all of training camp they basically just switch
02:25off periods and the only time the two quarterbacks even seems useful is during one on ones where
02:30they split the fields in half.
02:31But even then Joe Milton could probably handle all of those duties if he really needed to.
02:36So you start to wonder OK is this them saying you know we've got to put some Bailey's happy
02:40tape out there from this season with this supporting cast to maybe give you know some
02:44teams something to get excited about or maybe get intrigued by that they'd want to trade
02:48for him.
02:49Maybe this was just to see OK what is Bailey look like with more reps because he hasn't
02:53gotten extended time under center in training camp.
02:56You know again an odd situation might just totally be on the offensive line have nothing
03:00to really do with Bailey's happy himself.
03:03But even then Joe Milton didn't come in until Zappi had been in for seven drives so bit
03:07of an odd situation.
03:08I am going to just assume that the offensive line had a majority to do with that because
03:12you know even when you had shooks out there when he was hurt city so we didn't know if
03:17he was going to play or not.
03:18Just back up line.
03:19You know we did like what I saw from Caden Wallace will kind of touch on that as well.
03:23The second line wasn't terrible but still with a guy like Drake may you don't want to
03:26risk it.
03:27So definitely an odd situation.
03:29I'm very disappointed that we didn't get more Drake may.
03:31But if they were trying to preserve his health right.
03:33I think that doesn't make sense.
03:34Yeah for sure.
03:35Zappi finishes the game 12 12 of 20 for 108 yards gets sacked twice.
03:41I believe they scored one touchdown with him in the game was a two yard Kevin Harris touchdown
03:46run.
03:47He was fine.
03:49He was OK.
03:50Again you mentioned showcase I kind of I think that's the maybe the positive way to look
03:54at it where OK the Patriots are going to try and do him a favor.
03:57They're going to get him on the field.
03:58Hey hey kid you know show us what you can do show the league what you can do.
04:02And we'll again if there's enough I guess trade value in it we can trade you or if we
04:06do end up cutting you then maybe you end up you kind of land on your feet you don't end
04:10up in no man's land you don't have to come back to the practice squad because at the
04:13end of the day it's clear that he is not in their plans beyond the rest of this preseason
04:18especially because what we saw from Joe Milton.
04:20So let's talk about Joe Milton bazooka Joe Milton.
04:23He goes rogue today but Rogue is strong.
04:25I think everybody went off for sure.
04:27Everybody got really excited obviously about you know the 38 yard touchdown pass to Jaquay
04:32Jackson.
04:33He had that you know that spinning spinning play.
04:36He kind of extends the play and you know dumps it off or no he ran I'm sorry.
04:39He ran and got I don't know if it was the first time but you know got some yards with
04:42his feet.
04:43A couple of good scrambles in there.
04:44A couple of good scrambles from Joe Milton.
04:45So he looked pretty good Gerard Mayo after the game we talked to him and he said that
04:48you know he somebody asked him who did you who were you most impressed with.
04:52And he said well I don't really want to single anyone out.
04:55I want to look at the tape.
04:56I don't really know.
04:57We didn't see the game much.
04:58He goes oh but Joe Milton.
05:00He was awesome.
05:01So like that's super cool for Milton obviously we spoke to him after the game as well.
05:05You know he seemed thrilled obviously happy with his performance.
05:09So we also talked to Bailey Zappi who you mentioned it I wasn't in there for his press
05:13conference but he was sort of you know laid back.
05:15He was asked about the boos and you know he doesn't I guess it was a funny response.
05:19Yeah.
05:20Like someone asked him about the fact that he was being booed and what it feels like
05:23with Patriots fans being a little hot and cold on who they like at quarterback.
05:27As the question was being asked he laughed just understanding what was coming.
05:30And I thought what he said was pretty you know insightful.
05:33He said hey I didn't really I wasn't really bothered by it when people were cheering for
05:37me when people were against Mac Jones and he says that that's translated now to where
05:41obviously everyone wants Drake May.
05:42They even want Joe Milton out there instead of Zappi and he says it doesn't really bother
05:45him now that people are booing against him.
05:47It feels like he really is at least in front of us taking this in stride as best he can.
05:51For sure.
05:52Which again he kind of has to.
05:54That's the position he's been put in and I think he's handling it pretty well.
05:56So let's talk about Joe Milton.
05:58Do I I don't want to ask the question but I think I'm going to try and frame it this
06:03way.
06:04Is there anything from seeing a lack of Drake May seeing a ton of Joe Milton where it's
06:08like hmm and now they're not going to they're not going to do it they're not going to start
06:12the sixth round.
06:13But this early on is it like oh wow.
06:16We actually might have something in the sixth round or two.
06:19I or is it still a great I don't think any I don't think the coaching staff is going
06:23to say wait a minute Joe Milton.
06:25Yeah right.
06:26He might be the guy.
06:27I think they maybe will say OK he's beginning to look like the kind of prospect that we
06:31hoped he'd be.
06:33Coming out of college Joe Milton was somebody where you know reason were a bit of an issue
06:36obviously touch was a big issue consistency with his accuracy even in training camp.
06:41We've said it before.
06:42We actually think that with his third QB reps he's made the most of them for the most part
06:46the accuracy looks good.
06:47He's finding open receivers not throwing into bad windows staying in the pocket.
06:51And today you saw the points there was even a scramble where he was in the pocket showed
06:55a little bit of nimbleness and then scrambled because he had to.
06:58And then on the underneath throws that was a really big thing for me.
07:01We know he's got the arm right.
07:02We saw it on the way Jackson touchdown.
07:04I'm not going to lie.
07:05I thought he could have floated it.
07:06Maybe you know given Jackson something to run under but he was like no I'm Joe.
07:10It was literally you're open.
07:12You double moved him.
07:13He's gone.
07:14I'm getting it to you immediately.
07:15And it was like literally which I mean still it's a touchdown.
07:18I'm not nitpicking that at all.
07:20The one negative I'd say with Joe Milton was that out route or they were trying to set
07:23out the out and up Bailey's happy actually made a joke about it saying that he set up
07:27Joe Milton's touchdown because they'd thrown so many out routes and then it ended up coming
07:31on and out and up.
07:32But yeah Joe Milton I like the underneath touch and accuracy.
07:36I like the decision making other than the out.
07:39I really did think he had a strong day today and I don't think he's pushing Drake May or
07:42anything like that.
07:43We're not even close.
07:44This guy was carving up third and fourth string guys who aren't going to be on active NFL
07:48rosters.
07:49That's a good point.
07:50But for the sixth round quarterback you were hoping would just give you something to where
07:54maybe you know you have some depth for the short term maybe long term he turns into a
07:58trade ship.
07:59I thought this was a great start for Joe Milton.
08:00I don't think that he's going to overpass Drake May either at all whatsoever.
08:04I'm I'm saying it in jest where I don't I don't think it's the right move.
08:09I don't think it's the right thing to do.
08:11What worries me is frankly the Boston sports media market we're in where Joe Milton has
08:17a good preseason just like Bailey's app.
08:19He had good preseasons with with Mac and the starter doesn't play well and then all of
08:23a sudden it's we'll give Joe Milton a chance.
08:24Why are we giving Joe Milton a chance.
08:25So that's just how that Tom Brady was a six.
08:27Luckily we got a layer of Jacoby Berset over that Drake May to give a little bit more of
08:31a cushion.
08:32There is a lot that has to happen for us to get to that.
08:34I'm not saying it even will because it's not like May has played bad.
08:37We just haven't seen it yet and Milton comes out it's like let's see what happens again.
08:40Not saying that's going to happen but it's something to keep in mind.
08:43There's pros and cons to bringing in two rookie quarterbacks at once.
08:46You saw it work out with you know the Redskins when Robert Griffin the third goes down Kirk
08:49Cousins comes in plays well they turn him into you know their franchise quarterback
08:53for a little while.
08:54The pros as well is constant comparison and you know do you sit this guy do you start
08:57this guy one get all that stuff again.
08:59We're not there yet.
09:00It's super early.
09:01It's game one.
09:02But overall Joe Milton plays well.
09:03Zappi actually played OK too.
09:06And then Drake May gets gets the one series.
09:07So that's sort of the that's the diagnosis on the quarterbacks that we're going to get
09:11to defense.
09:12We're going to get to special teams are going to get to all of it.

10:40Let's get to the defense Taylor Patriots defense has been awesome for the last X amount of
10:44years.
10:46They've been great for like the last 25 years.
10:48There's never really been a problem with the Patriots defense and they showed it again
10:51tonight.
10:52They showed they were the reason why the Patriots I think even were able to win four games last
10:56year.
10:57And I think ultimately they're the reason why they're going to win a bunch was strong.
11:01They're going to win more.
11:03They're going to win more games and I think people will think they will again this year
11:07because you know there's guys and I'll kind of leave it to you.
11:11But Jeremiah Jeremiah farms O'Shea is a man as Joe Giles Harris and Christian Ellis all
11:16shine tonight.
11:17They all looked really good guys who you know some could be more of roster locks at this
11:21point.
11:22Others are trying to play you know play themselves onto the 53 man.
11:25But you know right now I think even without the the stars out there without Christian
11:29Barmer but he's been out without you know Matthew Judd on because he's doing the contract
11:33was Devon gotcha doesn't play like a lot of these guys who are their starters even the
11:37backups in the lower tier guys come out here and kick the Panthers butts.
11:41Now great.
11:42I wrote about this to the Panthers.
11:44They were the worst team in football last year.
11:45They had the worst offensive football last year and they were using their backup quarterback.
11:48So it's a big grain of salt.
11:50But these guys still came out here and basically shut them out.
11:53They you know they only have three field goals at the end.
11:55So what do you think of the defense.
11:56What did you make of the guys kind of fighting for those you know middle tier roster spots
11:59here.
12:00Yeah that defensive front really did dominate and I'm going to do my victory laps here.
12:04I've been telling you all look out for Jeremiah farms.
12:06Look out for O'Shea as a menace and look what happens now.
12:09Of course once again the Panthers had 32 players inactive.
12:13So their starters on both sides of the ball and then a little bit extra.
12:16So obviously massive grain of salt but Jeremiah farms is somebody who I've mentioned gives
12:21you run and pass defense versatility guy who's great with his hands more explosive than I
12:26think you'd expect and more stealth than I think you'd expect.
12:29You saw that he drew three different penalties two of them came back to back was consistently
12:35in the backfield just absolutely wrecked shop up front.
12:38Love to see that out of him.
12:39And then O'Shea is a man as a guy who I think brings versatility although we're mainly seeing
12:43him on the edge.
12:44But he was the guy who I did think the strip that he had didn't have getting recovered
12:49but I thought the strip kind of got lucky.
12:51It was good on him capitalizing on an opportunity.
12:53He did use power.
12:54I thought the right guard tripped the right tackle on the play.
12:57But hey things happen in the NFL.
12:59The point is you got to make the most of your opportunities as I mentioned in the men as
13:03knocking the ball.
13:04That was huge.
13:05But O'Shea did have another clean win on a rep where he didn't actually get the sack.
13:08So I really liked what I saw from him today.
13:10Then you talk about linebackers now Joe Giles Harris is someone who I had on my Patriots
13:1553 man roster projection a lot of that was Cusione Taki Taki is still on the pup list
13:20but also because Giles Harris has gotten some run with the top defense.
13:24He's made some plays in camp today.
13:26You see the guy get his hands on two passes.
13:29One of them was almost an interception the other he showed great awareness coming on
13:32a blitz and then getting his hand up.
13:34So I was impressed by what I saw from him.
13:36And then Christian Ellis the guy who I really saw is of course special teamer but also someone
13:41especially recently getting more reps on the defensive side of the ball even with the top
13:45unit.
13:46He had a really productive day.
13:47I think he had a sack two quarterback hits like three or four tackles really active day
13:51for him.
13:52So in that defensive front I'd say those four players really stood out for me today disruptive
13:57flying all over the field was cool to see.
13:59Yeah I will add I will add something on the defensive front and I want to loop it into
14:03something on the offense.
14:04And it's two two guys on this roster who are kind of going in opposite directions one on
14:08defense one on offense first defense Armand Watts comes in here one year deal played well
14:16what was he in Pittsburgh I believe right last year like a rotational guy but he's pretty
14:19efficient in the time he got he was efficient he was one of the guys who the Patriots brought
14:22in in this sort of mini free agency spree this year right.
14:27And you think that he's not maybe a lock someone obviously has to come and improve themselves
14:30but when you sign a guy you think this guy is going to be a part of our team next year
14:34he he wasn't out there with the first team he wasn't I don't think out there he was out
14:38there a little bit with the second team tonight excuse me and then he was basically in through
14:42the rest of the game when someone who is you know you think is close to a roster lock they're
14:46out there with the starters you see what they have in them and then they kind of come off
14:49the field.
14:50So to see Armand Watts out there that late on late in the game you know trying to make
14:55plays it looked like he was trying to fight for a roster spot and I just didn't expect
14:58that from him this early on in his Patriots career the other one is Juju Smith Schuster
15:03same thing we talked about it I wrote about it on CLNSmedia.com you can check it out as

15:10I feel like Juju's standing on this roster might be a little bit more secure than everybody
15:15thinks he was out here so I hope you're wrong but here's the no offense Juju if you're watching
15:21right no offense to you as a person purely football perspective I really hope you're
15:24wrong so this is what happens they come out they start the game the starters are in they're
15:28starting offensive line starting quarterback Jacoby Rousset starting group personnel grouping
15:32outside of Hunter Henry so they're in 12 personnel two tight ends two receivers the two tight
15:36ends are Austin Hooper and Mitchell Wilcox Wilcox becomes the third tight end especially
15:41Jaheim being a rookie which we'll get to Mitchell Wilcox later but then they come into back
15:44into 11 personnel they take one tight end off and they bring a third wide receiver on
15:48and it's Juju Smith Schuster Juju Smith Schuster is the first F the first lot receiver in their
15:52package and I'm going wait this guy in practice has not been repping really with much of the
15:56first team if at all it's been to Mario Douglas now granted he didn't play today but even
16:00when it wasn't Douglas it was Jalen Polk yeah I tweeted it out I felt like an idiot right
16:05it was Jalen Polk who was coming in and you know even if it wasn't you know they're making
16:09different adjustments and maybe KJ Osborne bumps it like it Juju hasn't really been playing
16:14with those guys and all of a sudden it comes game time and he's the first F to be called
16:17upon I just that felt funky to me I don't know if it's a if they were doing him like
16:21a veteran's favor if you know they didn't want to throw Jalen Polk as a rookie right
16:26into the mix right away as sort of that next F he maybe has to earn it a little bit but
16:30then even even further was later on in the game Juju wasn't competing with the guys he's
16:35been competing with in camp right he was sort of on that back end of the receiver room with
16:39Keishon Booty and Taekwon Thornton and and maybe not Jalen Rager he's kind of been more
16:43with the first team but like those Jaquay Jack like Juju hasn't been a competitive wide
16:47receiver top wide receiver through throughout camp so for him to come out here I'm I'm kind
16:51of confused I don't know what it is but I want to get your take on why Juju was out
16:55there you know early and often and and you know not with the guys we've seen him with
16:59in camp it was weird it's gonna be real quick I don't know I have no idea why he was out
17:02there honestly because it doesn't make sense when you look at what he's done in practice
17:06sometimes like with Zappy he hasn't been bad in practice so seeing him out there was odd
17:10do not get me wrong but you know at the same time I'm saying all right it's not like the
17:13guy was so bad in camp that it's like why is Zappy getting seven drives he's stunk right
17:17I didn't you know that wasn't where I went with it Juju I mean I really hasn't been reliable
17:22really don't like beating the dead Juju horse but truly I mean he's covered constantly when
17:28he is targeted on plays that he can make he very rarely comes down with them I just don't
17:34understand I really saw Juju as someone who would probably be out here to the end now
17:37I will say maybe was health related because we constantly see him not constantly not as
17:42much as we did early on in training camp but we've seen him kind of off to the side working
17:45with Tyler Hughes at times he doesn't look like he's 100% healthy to me so I'm thinking
17:50maybe that's why they didn't just want to put a ton of wear on his tires sure but I'll
17:54say I'm confused it's not like they were throwing to him or you know it's not like Zappy we're
17:57saying oh maybe they want to put some film out there so someone sees him as a trade ship
18:01which would still be weird because they played regular season against like starters last
18:04year it's not like there's not tape on them out there I don't know but weird situation
18:08I'm sorry I got nothing for you I don't know why they did that but I mean bizarre yeah
18:13it didn't make much sense it didn't it didn't go along with what we've seen from camp whatsoever
18:16all right let's get to another wide receiver I'm gonna do it as you know I love to do it
18:21I'm gonna stir the pot a little bit you talking about Keishon booty leading receiver tonight
18:25three catches 58 yards a lot of guys had him as a positive tonight I thought he looked
18:29pretty good again someone who was out there a lot again the three catches he did have
18:33a couple drops he had a couple you know missed targets you can call up drops you can call
18:36him high passes what have you and then you look at me and say you know booty wasn't great
18:41tonight what'd you make a booty because I feel like you know from a 30,000 foot view
18:46from myself from you know some other reporters out here thought booty looked not not outstanding
18:50he wasn't you know the the best player on the floor maybe he was because there wasn't
18:53much good product out here but I don't think you thought booty was as good as everybody
18:58else did why yeah no I think it's because the first play was impressive that ball got
19:02on him fast eat high points to show strong hands then turns around and gets more yards
19:06after the catch I was excited everybody knows I'm a big Keishon booty guy so I'm like hell
19:10yeah he's off to a really fast start let's go then the second target I didn't think it
19:15was all that great it's a curl route it looked like against off coverage made the catch almost
19:19broke out of it for extra yards didn't but still fought to get a little extra I was like
19:23okay cool good start then his next two targets you know the third one it was a little dicey
19:28because I did see the cornerback kind of grabbed him by his chest a little bit that made a
19:33little tougher I'm thinking okay bounce back from it it's cool then we get another play
19:37where the ball hits his hands it was contested he couldn't win at the top of the route and
19:42then it's another incompletion so I was excited about the way Keishon booty started the night
19:46but for someone who I personally have not high expectations for I don't think that he
19:50is going to be like a locked in starter I'd like to see him be a really complimentary
19:54role player and the consistency tonight wasn't there for me that's the biggest issue that
19:59I had was I wanted to see Keishon booty fighting through contact winning at the top of routes
20:03and being that physical kind of outside receiver he can be especially against reserve competition
20:08because I think he's talented enough I didn't see that towards the end of his day in terms
20:13of targets again strong start I love that I just want to see that consistently and maybe
20:18see a little bit more downhill downfield from him not his fault that he didn't but you know
20:22as we move forward in these preseason games in training camp I want to see more of that
20:25contested catch ability that we've seen consistently in training camp and also some of the downfield
20:30stuff that we've seen in camp as well I like the way you put it where you know you have
20:34high expectations for you you like him you think he's good enough to make this team you
20:37think he can be an NFL contributor so you know I feel like the you look at booty right
20:43and he has the three catches for 58 yards he makes a couple nice grabs and you know
20:48everybody wants to crown him right away and it's like let's get booty on the team let's
20:50get excited for booty where that's not what's gonna make him make this team because again
20:56we've seen what Jalen Polk we see what Jalen Reagan to do Jalen Polk he had a similar route
21:01where it was a curl where the guy was right on his back we saw that with Jalen Rager we
21:05saw with Keyshawn booty and we saw with Polk Jalen Rager was not able to make that catch
21:10obviously you know it was a little bit high I got killed for this it was a little bit
21:13of a high pass to me which understandable it's in the rain did hit him in the hands
21:16but you know two things can be right at the same time but Polk is the only guy tonight
21:20who we saw make that really tough contested catch so again that's my standard is you got
21:24to fight through that as an NFL receiver all right we're gonna hit on that little ranty
21:27there no that's good it puts it into perspective where kind of where we should be and where
21:32Keyshawn booty is in trying to make this team plenty of time we're gonna hit special teams

23:14we're gonna do a quick note on special teams here uh first and foremost joey sly comes out
23:19and does the first uh new kickoff chad ryland takes the second one um and then chad ryland
23:24sort of takes the first uh the first reps at uh place kicker and then joey slack comes in
23:29and takes the second one just sort of you know news and notes there nothing to really glean from
23:33it uh but the other thing i wanted to get to here is the new kick return um the patriots only had
23:37one kick return attempt because uh or maybe it was two it was two i missed the second one had
23:42one and he kind of got like outside here okay kind of slid out regardless in the first one
23:47on the first one back to return was isaiah bouldin and kevin harris i thought it was
23:52yes we did we talked about it we spoke with isaiah bouldin um about this after the game
23:56again i'm gonna i'm gonna do the alex barth shameless plug here where this was one of my

24:05isaiah bouldin one of the better kick returners uh i don't want to say in cultural history but he
24:09had one of the best seasons a few years ago at jackson state he was you know top five in you
24:13know yards per return he had like you know three or four return touchdowns he was very good and
24:17then gerard mayo comes out in otas calls him a special teams demon yeah says you know he's
24:22going to contribute not only on defense but in the special teams game but then throughout the
24:26offseason program and then into training camp when they run you know the new kick returns or
24:31the you know kick return drills in general we didn't see isaiah bouldin out there once he was
24:35never out there for a rep so that kind of you know gets us thinking you know as the media heads
24:39whatever whom are they're going to use him out here are they not are they hiding him and then
24:43we ask him on tuesday and say hey isaiah what do you think of the kick return the new kick return
24:47rules he says i love it and that he's looking forward to being out there on thursday you said
24:51yeah we all we all did the emoji because you know he hasn't been out there then you look at again we
24:56talked about it in our um our pregame show the unofficial the very unofficial depth chart yes
25:02but isaiah bouldin wasn't listed as a kick returner there either so no evidence of isaiah
25:07bouldin being a patriots kick returner until that first rep where he comes out here uh and he's back
25:12there now kevin harris returned it isaiah bouldin went in front and blocked that must have just been
25:17where the kick was what have you but i thought it was interesting that it does seem like they're
25:20going to use isaiah bouldin in the kicking game and i'm excited when he finally gets the field
25:23one because we haven't seen him as an nfl character i'd like to see him do it because he's probably
25:27not going to play much defense realistically just because like marco wilson actually started a
25:31corner for the patriots over alexawson and i feel like there's a lot of guys in that rotation before
25:37you actually get to isaiah bouldin so i want to see gerard mayo's statement come to fruition i want
25:42to see him use that crazy height speed weight explosiveness all that stuff like i want to see
25:47him right be that great special teams team because he has a skill set to do it and obviously the
25:51return stuff jalen rager i think should be the main return guy you got rager and isaiah bouldin
25:56back there some of these teams are probably going to try to kick one direction to keep it from
25:59certain returners then you don't really give them a good option because you have two guys who are
26:03big have good contact balance and are going to take it to the house if they get behind your
26:08coverage unit yeah i think that i think it gives him a reasonable chance to make the team as well
26:12if he can you know produce in a special teams role of some sort and not just be a one-dimensional
26:16cornerback another returner tonight uh who looks pretty good rookie undrafted free agent david
26:21wallace had a couple times what'd you what'd you make of him it was surprising to be honest with
26:25you because when we see him in training camp i mean god bless the guy's soul but he doesn't
26:29really look like i'm out there he doesn't really catch or feel the ball very well like he just
26:33doesn't typically look very natural i've seen him with i mean everybody most of the returners have
26:38with at some point but i didn't see this in him during practices and then also returns you're not
26:43really trying to get a big play because you're not trying to tackle a lot of the time but yeah
26:47i mean good for him he had that one really big return i think he had another for like 14 yards
26:51after that didn't make it i think he caught one fair catch that was kind of weird because one
26:56these big return came out of play where someone was dead to right tad and he made a miss he had
27:00another one where he had plenty of space could have fielded and caught a fair catch or fair punt
27:05it'll happen it's fine uh but yeah it was cool to see some positive from david wallace on that too
27:10i think this is you know an interesting little nugget i'll add that julian edelman was the guy
27:14who made his first team as a seventh round draft pick as a punt returner in a preseason game before
27:19tonight's game tweeted about how was the preseason how this is where rosters are made not saying
27:24david wall's gonna make the roster but pretty cool to see someone you know same size and shape uh as
27:29julian edelman come out here and do pretty well in the return game what other special teams know
27:32what i'll throw in hit it jayvon baker was on the kickoff unit to open the game that was pretty
27:36surprising you don't really usually during special teams he's actually off to the side with some of
27:40the other outside guys like booty will sometimes be there but like juju and baker are two guys
27:44you typically see on the sidelines during special teams drills but baker is the fourth round pick
27:49and there are a lot of guys ahead of him at the x receiver spot even though he has mixed in with
27:53the starter so i thought that was pretty interesting and honestly i'm excited to see the film and you
27:57know to watch if the physicality that he brings as a receiver translated over to the special teams
28:01for sure um all right i'm gonna give you one more alley-oop before we get out of here taylor
28:06caden wallace looks pretty good and there was a lot of penalties tonight so quick quick analysis
28:11on both of those before we wrap this thing up yeah that was pretty disappointing the tight ends and
28:14the offensive line even bailey zappy had a delay game penalty also had an intentional grounding
28:19which i think it was because there was pressure as soon as he was about to let the ball go i feel
28:23like it was one of those bang bang kind of plays but yeah i didn't love the discipline from the
28:26offense today that's got to get tightened up for sure oh but yeah caden wallace he didn't stand out
28:31for me in any negative ways i saw people saying he and calvin anderson gave up the sack on bailey's
28:35happy the really big one the way i saw it was there was a blitzer and michael hasey tried to
28:40pick it up but really kind of got pushed back there was nowhere for zappy to step up and he
28:45was like 10 yards deep you're not expecting to get protection right when you're that deep in the
28:49pocket you're supposed to step up so yeah i thought caden wallace overall had a good day and one
28:53other thing should we mention the one player who was down for us or absolutely yeah mitchell
28:58wilcox man another one like this gives me no pleasure but it was a continuation of what we've
29:04seen all training camp tough grabs he doesn't really make he'll drop wide open passes his first
29:09target i think it was first target was the high pass from uh jacoby versette his second target
29:14was a throw to the flat was in his hands then it popped like just disappointing i think he got a
29:19penalty didn't look at as a blocker i said i thought mitchell wilcox was going to get exposed
29:24once the pads came on because they were using him a ton in the spring and i'm like i don't understand
29:28what the plan is here because he's everybody in the nfl is good to some degree right by nfl
29:33sanders i don't think he's a great player he's versatile but it's like okay he can line up in
29:37all these places but is he a net positive or is he just kind of taking up space and respectfully i
29:43felt like he was just taking up space today i think he had a chance tonight uh to come out here
29:47and show why he's on an nfl roster or you know attempt to show why he's on an nfl roster and why
29:52he's better and can beat out a guy like jaheim bell as a seventh round uh third tight end i don't
29:56think he did that i think he did not help his stock today at all so uh a tough showing for
30:01mitchell wilcox um a couple quick things i'll note these are more of the uh you know the fun
30:05things around the stadium now that we're in a new era first and foremost um the song that the
30:11patriots came out to oh yeah no longer uh ozzy osbourne's crazy train it was now uh oh man what
30:17was it i wrote i wrote about it too it was one of the things i wrote about uh i need to pull this
30:20up because it's important what's changing in the gerard mayo era they now came out to
30:27where is it oh let's go it's the it's uh let's go by trick daddy and little john oh yeah crazy
30:33train is sampled in that thank you for to alex farth uh for figuring that out but besides that
30:38uh mostly the same um you know same music same third down horn same touchdown song um so a little
30:44bit of changes i noticed a new mural in the media uh yeah in the media room in there uh there's a
30:49new lighthouse up in our in our uh press box so jacoby reset leading the team out of the tunnel
30:53which i guess you expected but that was a thing yeah a couple new things nothing crazy gerard
30:57mayo rocking a white hat white uh white over shirt i was curious to see what his first uh
31:03every time we've seen him he's worn a blue a navy blue uh t-shirt with a patriot's logo here
31:09shorts and like high socks with air force i was like i've never seen him in anything else and
31:12then he all of a sudden he comes out in a white hat and windbreak i'm like oh
31:16he's bringing the drip out uh but yeah so uh this was fun yeah this was fun we have a couple
