00:00Let's start off today with a story that broke this weekend that could, you know, potentially,
00:08I think, affect the upcoming season for the University of Michigan.
00:12You may remember last year there was an individual on the sidelines, his name was Conor Stallions.
00:17In fact, there's going to be a documentary on him coming up pretty soon.
00:21And we thought the story maybe had gone away as Jim Harbaugh was suspended for a short
00:26period of time.
00:27He left for the National Football League, but upon further investigation, right now
00:31there is some trouble for their current head coach, Sharon Moore, who took over for Harbaugh
00:37at the end of last season.
00:38In fact, he is being accused along with six other members of the University of Michigan
00:43for violating rules in the NCAA and that also included deleting text messages, over 50 of
00:50them were found to be deleted that went back and forth from Moore to allegedly Harbaugh
00:58and even Stallions as well.
01:00Now again, there's still not a ton of information as to the specifics of this, but he is under
01:04investigation and could face suspension or even who knows what would happen for the University
01:10of Michigan going into the season.
01:12So be careful of that season win total, be careful of any kind of penalties that could
01:18come for the Wolverines coming up this fall.
01:21Meanwhile, Arizona is getting new sports books in their state.
01:25It was announced earlier this morning that Planetek and Sports Trade are jumping into
01:30the fray.
01:31Of course, Arizona's had legal sports betting for a couple of years now since they've opened
01:35it up legally there.
01:37Also an announcement was made that the Arizona Department of Gaming that they have allocated
01:41an event wagering operator license to Planetek as the designee for the San Carlos Apache
01:47Tribal Gaming Enterprise.
01:49So the Indian reservations and the Indian tribes obviously being part of this as well.
01:54Another fun announcement made today, I thought personally, this coming from Bet Rivers.
02:00Matthew Waters, who usually joins us weekly on Legal Sports Report, posted this on social
02:04media in terms of the story last week that DraftKings is going to take maybe a percent
02:09or two from your winnings.
02:10No such surcharge to be the case for Bet Rivers.
02:15Bet Rivers saying that not going to happen.
02:17We're not going to be doing that to our customers taking a shot a little bit.
02:21It seems to be on DraftKings as well.
02:23All right.
02:24Now let's go over to the very latest, the Olympic Games in Paris.
02:27Congratulations to Noah Lyles.
02:29He was the story on Sunday as he brings home the gold medal for the United States in the
02:33100 meter final 9.784 second time that edged him past a world class field of elite sprinters.
02:41He earned the victory by beating the man with the world's fastest time this year, Jamaica's
02:45Kashane Thompson by 0.005 of a second.
02:53Yes.
02:540.005.
02:55So close.
02:56It was the closest 100 meter final since Moscow in 1980 or maybe even ever.
03:03You talk about a photo finish.
03:04Look at that.
03:05Who could potentially pick the winner there by seeing the end there?
03:09Lyles, 200 meter finals on Wednesday, he'll have an opportunity to claim a gold medal
03:14coming up later in the week.
03:16All right.
03:17Photo finish on the golf course for Scotty Scheffler.
03:20He continues his dominance of the PGA Tour at the Olympics as he takes home the gold.
03:25He was four shots behind to start the final round, six shots behind on the back nine,
03:31but Scheffler went crazy birdieing five of six holes down the stretch and he hit the
03:36course record nine under 62.
03:40He defeats Tommy Fleetwood who captured the silver medal.
03:45Also John Rahm had a huge lead of this one kind of fell apart in the end Olympic record,
03:49by the way, 72 holes, 19 under 265.
03:54Now on the tennis court, a gold medal, incredible performance, by the way, I just got to add
04:00Novak Djokovic.
04:01I mean, it feels like he could play until he's 45.
04:03He won the gold at the age of now 37, defeating Carlos Alcaraz.
04:09It was an incredible match, 7-6, 7-6, tiebreaker on three, tiebreaker on two, an enthralling
04:16and evenly matched tennis match at the 2024 games.
04:20Djokovic wanted the gold medal for Serbia, which is basically the last thing that he
04:24wanted to do to get the career golden slam, which was something that Steffi Graf had in
04:291998.
04:30Steffi Agassi had in 1999, Rafael Nadal in 2010, Serena Williams in 2012, and now Djokovic
04:37for Serbia in 2024 as he takes home the gold.
04:40All right, well, Simone Biles had a tough time on the balance beam, but she did end
04:46up taking a silver medal just a few minutes ago in the floor exercise on Monday.
04:50It's her fourth medal in Paris and 11th Olympic medal overall after a routine that included
04:56a couple of steps out of bounds.
04:58Simone Biles' Rebecca Andrade became the first gymnast to beat Biles in a floor major
05:02in an international competition, 14.166 for her, 14.133 for Simone Biles.
05:10You may have heard the story we've been telling you about here on Newswire over the last couple
05:14of weeks about that lake in Paris that had E. coli in it.
05:18Belgium had to forfeit because one of their triathletes tested positive for E. coli after
05:24swimming in that Seine River.
05:25Yikes.
05:26How did that even happen?
05:28Needless to say, Belgium are going to be out, have to forfeit that because of E. coli.
05:31That's something you hear very often.
05:32All right, U.S. women's basketball routes Germany on Sunday, the final 87-68.
05:38Fifty-eight straight Olympic wins in a row, much better than the White Sox, and the number
05:42one seed in the medal round, which begins Wednesday in Paris.
05:45Team USA goes for its eighth consecutive gold medal, next up for Team USA, and they are
05:49favored against Nigeria.
05:51Again, that's coming up on Wednesday.
05:54This new event, the three-on-three basketball that they're doing at the Olympics, it did
05:58not go well for Team USA.
05:59They've been eliminated, and they finished two and five in pool play, and needless to
06:05say, Jimmer Frenette was brought in to give the team a boost after they failed to qualify
06:08for Tokyo, but needless to say, he had a lower leg injury.
06:12It did not work out at all.
06:13Team USA is out of the running in the three-on-three.
06:18Over in Major League Baseball, I took a shot there at the White Sox for good reason.
06:22We've lost, folks, 20 games in a row, one shy of the American League record.
06:31I mean, you can't make this stuff up.
06:33We'll see if they end up catching and passing the Baltimore Orioles here.
06:36If they break the record, it will come against, yes, the Cubs.
06:39Go figure that.
06:40Paul Skeens' day ends in a little bit of heartbreak.
06:43Cattell Marte, home run in the top of the ninth inning.
06:46Skeens just went five and a third, four strikeouts, still plus 210 to win the Cy Young over on
06:53FanDuel.
06:54The Houston Astros acquired UC Cucucci at the deadline.
06:57They thought maybe they would get another pitcher back from injury in Lance McCullers,
07:01Jr., but Joe Espada made the announcement on Sunday that he is unlikely to return the
07:05rest of the season.
07:07William Abreu, on the day that he lost his grandmother, went out and played for her the
07:12next day.
07:13Ended up hitting two home runs for the Boston Red Sox yesterday, 430 feet home run, a dozen
07:20rows deep.
07:21An incredible day with tears in his eyes for Abreu.
07:23You wanted to mention that here on the show.
07:25All right, National Football League.
07:27We got preseason games coming up on Thursday night.
07:29Jaden Daniels, the first pick for the Commanders, is going to play in the game.
07:35Dan Quinn said on Sunday that he'll play against the Jets.
07:39Who knows how long, but Marcus Mariota will take snaps as well.
07:43Tyree Kill got his contract extension.
07:45It's a restructured deal, actually, when you think about it, and it'll keep him among the
07:49highest paid skilled position players in the NFL.
07:51$90 million over the next three years, $65 million guarantee.
07:56The Tennessee Titans signed Quandre Diggs, and it looks like it's a deal approximately
08:01up to $5 million.
08:03And the Carolina Panthers got some good news after a scare yesterday.
08:06Xavier Leguette, one of the top picks in the NFL draft, had a foot injury, but his head
08:11coach, Dave Kanellis, says he should be OK, avoided a major injury, although who knows
08:16how long he will be out.
08:17We'll hear from Kanellis, by the way, coming up later in the Sound Off.
