00:00All right, I have come to Milwaukee. Yes, Bulldog Tour brings me now to American Family Field.
00:08Nah, it's still Miller Park to me. I mean, that was the perfect name for this. It opened in 2001
00:15and it's been home of the Brewers, home to the 2002 All-Star game, which ended in a tie.
00:22Probably one of the most famous moments that's been at this stadium. And it's a retractable roof
00:28stadium and we're on a nice sunny afternoon, so we're going to be able to enjoy the outdoors.
00:35But let's just see what makes American Family Field tick as we go on our Bulldog Tour.
00:42Come see what's brewing. Come see what the good times are. Come see what the Brewers are doing.
00:52Of course, this stadium, originally called Miller Park, and it's in the shadow of the
00:57Miller Brewery over here, by the way. You see the Miller Brewery right here.
01:04But this small park, which opened in 2001, was originally supposed to open in 2000.
01:11Under construction in 1999, tragedy struck as a crane collapsed, killing three construction workers.
01:22Jeffrey Wishart, William DeGrave, and Jerome Starr. The Brewers, in their honor,
01:32put up the Ironworkers statue to celebrate the people who built the stadium.
01:38And it memorialized the three workers who were killed building the stadium.
01:52Just a bit outside American Family Field is the statue of Bob Newman, who's been announcing
01:59Brewer games for over 50 years. Still a legend. Of course, people know him from the movie Major League.
02:07Just a bit outside, he tried the corner and missed. One of the worst baseball players ever,
02:12but he also used that into becoming a stand-up comedian and an actor, of course, on Mr.
02:18Belvedere. But you put the statue here of Bob Newman. It's among a group of statues that the Brewers
02:25use to honor their past legends.
02:40Milwaukee Brewers do not have a great history. Only been to a World Series once, and until recently,
02:48had only made a few sporadic playoff appearances. But they honor their history quite well.
02:54They honor their history quite well. And for the way they display their history with the statues out here
02:59of Seelig, he shouldn't get a statue, honoring the Ironworkers and Robin Yount,
03:05they do a good job. So honoring history, the Brewers get a B.
03:12This ballpark is really reliant on tailgating. There's no ballpark village. There's not much
03:20in terms of offerings outside the game other than what you bring.
03:26And you know, I think the trend of the ballpark village is what we need to do. It's not as
03:33dangly or ugly as Citi Field out there at the Iron Triangles, but it's sparse. And for that,
03:39I got to give the Brewers a D. I think you need, like, set up for fans, set up. These ballpark
03:46villages are the way of the future. And I don't know if the Brewers will ever do that, but it's
03:51the one thing I see lacking out there. So this is the Third Street Market Annex. So we can get,
04:01this is a local food hall that's downtown, actually. Oh, nice. So after the game,
04:06you can go probably go check this out. But these are all local small businesses.
04:09Get anything from arepas to sushi to barbecue to tacos, everything here.
04:15And we have bars. I mean, it's Wisconsin. You got to get a beer at some point or some people
04:20have to get a beer. I like the concourses are open. It's always a positive. Very open concourses.
04:28I had something I didn't do at one point. It's like you didn't see the field until you
04:33stepped down the tunnel. Here you can see the field if you're walking the concourse
04:38during the game, trying to get to go to the bathroom or get a drink. You don't miss the
04:42action. No, it's a nice stadium. I like the concourse, the concourses. This is what you
04:46want to see in the concourse. You want open concourses. You want wide concourses so you
04:52can get around the stadium. You can get to your seat and you if you're going up during the game,
04:57you can see the game.
05:12Stomp your feet, clap your hands. You're part of the team sitting in the stands.
05:22Come see what's brewing. Come see what the good times are. Come see what the brewers are doing.
05:31You know, for a team named Milwaukee Brewers, you know they have to have a brewery in here.
05:39And there is a nice micro brew here by Lion Fugel. And look at this, a nice brewery.
05:48So they actually have a brewer in the Brewer Stadium. Perfect. Here's a nice little restaurant,
05:55Lion Kugel. It's a barrel yard and of course it's even open on non-game days.
06:01Hey Bernie, how's it going?
06:05Now people may not know this, Bernie Brewer is actually based on a real guy who in 1970
06:10climbed aboard a billboard until the Brewers sold a million tickets for the season, their first
06:16season. They moved in like kind of haphazardly. They weren't expecting to move in. They did it
06:21last minute. So he stood up there and then they eventually put a platform to have Bernie Brewer
06:27slide at the time from a cave into a mug of beer. And that was at the old county stadium. That was
06:33a great setup. But here you have the more fancy setup of the slide from Bernie's chalet down
06:39and he waves the flag and he's headed for his home run.
06:57Roll out the barrel, we have a barrel of fun. Roll out the barrel, we've got the blues on the run.
07:13Sing, boom, serrano. Sing out a song of good cheer.
07:21What's up, Bernie? Oh, Christian Yelich, how's it going?
07:25You're welcome. You're welcome.
07:27You're welcome.
07:29How do you like the whole walk? I like it.
07:31Is it quiet? No, it's not like a quiet town.
07:33It's over a city.
07:35Yeah.
07:37How do you like it?
07:39I like it.
07:41How do you like it?
07:43I like it.
07:45It's safe here.
07:47Best of luck out there. Thanks.
07:49Not every day you get to meet a legend, man.
07:51I haven't done the first pitch yet.
07:53Is this the first one?
07:55Oh, cool.
07:57It's striking, right?
07:59I'm going to try.
08:01The best thing is you don't budge at all.
08:03Getting ready.
08:05It's almost go time.
08:07And the home of the brave.
08:13Take the lid back off.
08:19You, get close to him and
08:21SportFitnessTen.
08:23Go to the one on one, break nine-ten my man.
08:32Here it is.
08:34Sounds good.
08:36Have fun.
08:38Me, too.
08:40Anyway, take your place.
09:11I didn't embarrass myself.
09:41Well, after throwing out the first pitch, I got a little view of the suite life and
09:57they have a couple of food items I'm going to try here.
09:59Of course, got to try the hot dog, you know.
10:03If I go on my ballpark tour, I'm going to review every hot dog and let's see how this
10:07hot dog rates.
10:08You know, sometimes the suite level may not have the best dog, so that could affect the
10:14grade a little bit.
10:15But let's see how this dog tastes.
10:16The bun to dog ratio is decent.
10:17It's got decent enough coloring, but let's see how it actually tastes.
10:25Nice snap.
10:35It's a good ballpark dog.
10:39So I'm going to give the ballpark tour a line drive single.
10:45Of course, they have the sausage race in the sixth inning every game.
10:51So here, you have to try another sausage.
10:55That's why I'm going with the bratwurst.
10:59And I like the coloring on this.
11:03It's got like, it's well cooked.
11:05So let's see how the bratwurst rates.
11:20That's a good brat.
11:22That's a good brat.
11:24Now we only do the double single stuff for home runs for hot dogs, but I'm going to give
11:31this brat a 7.8.
11:34Basic ballpark food items here, but they have plenty of them, and they stay true to Wisconsin.
11:40They have different types of sausages, different types of dairy cheese products.
11:45For food variety, I'm giving the American family meal a C+.
12:23Come see what's brewing, come see what the good times are, come see what the brewers
12:30are doing.
12:31Come on and cheer us.
12:32The Braves never lose.
13:01As with most modern stadiums, the sightlines in Milwaukee are nice.
13:06Anywhere you go, even the upper deck, the field's in a good view, it's highly compacted,
13:12it's cozy, and that's what makes it a ballpark.
13:15For sightlines, I'm giving the American Fiat Family Field an 8B.
13:31Come see what's brewing, come see what the good times are, come see what the brewers
13:39are doing.
13:40Come on and cheer us.
13:42You know, when it comes to hospitality, the brewers are a first class organization.
13:48And you know, the city might be getting into 25 years old, they're going to be doing some
13:55renovations over the next few years, they're going to re-up their lease.
13:59Here they're even going to start adding a ballpark village.
14:02So, things are happening here in Milwaukee.
14:06But as for the experience at American Family Field, I really think it's a really great
14:11stadium.
14:12So I'm going to give the brewers' overall stadium and experience an 8B.
14:19Take me out to the ballpark, take me to each one.
14:27I'm hitting the road and I'm reviewing everything.
14:31Inside, outside, even the game.
14:35Of course, there will be a raw dog, plus the ballpark specialty.
14:42As I review each ballpark in the MLB.
