00:00:00Very noticeably absent was one Jason Tatum,
00:00:04who afterwards was asked if he's sick or hurt.
00:00:08He said, no, I'm fine.
00:00:09Did not play a single minute.
00:00:12Henry, what are your thoughts?

00:00:20we have an awesome, awesome, awesome interview
00:00:23with the legend himself, John Elway.
00:00:25I was teasing it on Twitter today, PFT,
00:00:27and I said that it was one of those interviews
00:00:29that we don't do it very often,
00:00:32but like, I was legitimately starstruck.
00:00:34He's a legend. It's John Elway.
00:00:35He was football.
00:00:37He was part of some of the most iconic games,
00:00:40plays, Super Bowls, college games ever.
00:00:45So, and we talked to every,
00:00:46he literally got the whole interview.
00:00:48He was cool with us.
00:00:50We even talked about Paxton Lynch.
00:00:51So, awesome interview.

00:03:06Today is Monday, July 29th and PFT football is back.
00:03:13What a great weekend.
00:03:14It was back together weekend for the NFL.
00:03:16It is back.
00:03:17This, no, what I'm talking about now,
00:03:19I know that preseason doesn't matter anymore
00:03:22and I know the Hall of Fame game on Thursday,
00:03:24there will probably be no starters playing,
00:03:27but this is the beginning of the first week
00:03:30where every single week for the next 26 weeks,
00:03:34we will have football on our TV.
00:03:36And again, I know that there's not going to be actual
00:03:39like starters playing on Thursday night,
00:03:42but seeing the helmets, seeing the ball,
00:03:45seeing the field, football is back.
00:03:47We're going to get to the kickoffs.
00:03:49See the kickoffs.
00:03:50No, it was back together weekend.
00:03:52I don't know if you saw that,
00:03:52but the NFL was making a real hard push
00:03:54to call this back together weekend.
00:03:55Oh, Jim Irsay came to a first practice.
00:03:58First time being seen in public since December.
00:04:00Yeah, it's good to see every team.
00:04:02You get all the little nuggets.
00:04:04Most of them don't make any difference whatsoever,
00:04:06but you get to see like a new quarterback
00:04:07making the easy pass and be like,
00:04:08damn, that spiral looks tight.
00:04:10Yeah, Daniel Jones missing the league neighbors.
00:04:12Missing the league neighbors.
00:04:13I saw that one.
00:04:14I saw one where he did complete a pass down the sideline,
00:04:17some of the league neighbors who only got one foot in
00:04:19and they put that out as like,
00:04:20we got ourselves a weapon.
00:04:22Yeah.
00:04:23Yeah, just the social media from the first weekend
00:04:25of the NFL being back is awesome
00:04:27because every team you think that you're going to be like,
00:04:3010 wins.
00:04:30I can talk myself into 10 wins for any team
00:04:32except for maybe, maybe not the Panthers.
00:04:35Yeah.
00:04:36But like it's, I do feel like
00:04:38I have a renewed sense of optimism.
00:04:39Yes.
00:04:40Football season, baby.
00:04:41Jaden Daniels looks good.
00:04:42Jaden Daniels looks awesome.
00:04:43And then do you think we'll get to see any Caleb?
00:04:46No, I don't think so.
00:04:47But it doesn't matter.
00:04:49It's about seeing on the TV, the graphic,
00:04:52the kickoff, the helmets.
00:04:54Oh yeah.
00:04:55I'm going to watch maybe three minutes of it.
00:04:58Oh no, I'm going to watch a lot of it
00:04:59and we're going to get to see probably a new score bug
00:05:02that we all get to complain about.
00:05:03Yeah.
00:05:04There's all sorts of cool stuff that goes in
00:05:05with starting a new league year.
00:05:06And man, I feel like this was a long off season,
00:05:09but we're back, baby.
00:05:10It did feel like the longest off season.
00:05:11We will also probably get to see a little Tyson Bajent,
00:05:13which will be awesome.
00:05:14That'll be great, yeah.
00:05:15He was, he said that he was so locked in.
00:05:19He doesn't give a fuck about like bringing in, you know,
00:05:21whether there was going to be someone who was brought in
00:05:23or not as a competitive backup.
00:05:27He said he's been grinding his absolute face off.
00:05:29I love that.
00:05:30He doesn't even know.
00:05:31I love that.
00:05:32We're also going to get, for the first time this year,
00:05:33in-game coach interviews.
00:05:34Yeah.
00:05:35Like on the sidelines.
00:05:36Yeah.
00:05:37We just reported that.
00:05:38It had something to do with the NFL trial for Sunday ticket.
00:05:40And the judge was like,
00:05:40you need to make this more fan-friendly.
00:05:42I know what we'll do.
00:05:43In-game interviews with coaches who I'm sure
00:05:46will really give a lot of good nuggets
00:05:47for all the fans watching at home.
00:05:49Guys who don't want to be interviewed,
00:05:51being forced to interview.
00:05:52Yeah, you want to see-
00:05:53What could go wrong?
00:05:53You want to see Jim Harbaugh talk on camera
00:05:55for five seconds a half?
00:05:56Yeah.
00:05:57That'll do it.
00:05:58Yeah, this will do it.
00:05:59But yeah, football is back.
00:06:00Feels good to have football back.
00:06:01Now, this week, like we said,
00:06:04is a little bit of a different week.
00:06:05Hank's on vacation.
00:06:06Max is on vacation.
00:06:07PFT, you're about to head out.
00:06:09We have the Takeys on Wednesday.
00:06:11We have a great interview coming Friday.
00:06:14We'll do a Zoom intro.
00:06:15And then also, probably my favorite moment,
00:06:17the first one we've done of the season thus far.
00:06:20But we have Hank here on Zoom
00:06:26because US Men's Basketball team
00:06:28played their first game today.
00:06:31Well, some of them played their first game.
00:06:34Tyrese Halliburton didn't get in,
00:06:35but I mean, no one expected him to get in.
00:06:36It's not like he's a top five player.
00:06:38Yeah, so 10 of the 12 guys played their first game.
00:06:42Very noticeably absent was one Jason Tatum,
00:06:48who afterwards was asked if he's sick or hurt.
00:06:51He said, no, I'm fine.
00:06:53Did not play a single minute.
00:06:55Henry, what are your thoughts?
00:06:59Steve Kerr is a piece of shit.
00:07:03That's really what this all boils down to.
00:07:07Jason Tatum did have a better plus minus
00:07:08than Joel Embiid, so.
00:07:10Yes, that's true.
00:07:11Max is in Paris right now and we have a video,
00:07:14we asked him to record a video message
00:07:16addressing the fact that Joel Embiid
00:07:18was simply horrendous in this game.
00:07:21I think the stats were, I have them right here.
00:07:25They were, with Joel Embiid playing,
00:07:28they were minus eight.
00:07:29Without him playing, they were plus 34.
00:07:32And they were booing the shit out of him too.
00:07:33The French fans don't like Joel Embiid
00:07:35because they offered him a passport.
00:07:37Yeah.
00:07:38Back like two years ago, I think.
00:07:39Spurned him.
00:07:40We want to get Wimby, we want to get Gay,
00:07:43and we want to get Joel Embiid to play
00:07:46and just go with like a monster,
00:07:48like Monstars lineup essentially.
00:07:49And Embiid said, no, I'm gonna wait to see what happens.
00:07:51Wait, Gobert, Gay?
00:07:53Not Gay, yeah, Gobert.
00:07:54I was gonna say, Rudy A is French?
00:07:56The other Rudy.
00:07:57I think if your name is Rudy, you have a French passport.
00:08:00But no, there's, yeah.
00:08:01I was like, is Rudy Gay gonna be,
00:08:03because Rudy Gay is one of those guys
00:08:05that he was like a create a player,
00:08:07the perfect like size everything
00:08:10and he just, for some reason,
00:08:11it was never like what he was supposed to be.
00:08:13But if you told me he was gonna be playing in these Olympics
00:08:16I'd be like, yeah, that makes sense.
00:08:17He's still around.
00:08:18For France.
00:08:19Him and O.J. Mayo.
00:08:19Him and O.J. Mayo, I'm like, yeah, they'll be great.
00:08:23Great and Toucan.
00:08:24Yeah.
00:08:25Yeah, so I feel like France,
00:08:27they're pissed off at Joel Embiid
00:08:28just like everybody else except for Philly fans are.
00:08:30And even they hate him sometimes.
00:08:31But yeah, Hank, that's a good spin zone
00:08:33where it's like, it could have been worse.
00:08:35He could have played in Stonk.
00:08:36Yeah.
00:08:37But you could see him on the sidelines
00:08:38and he wasn't, he didn't seem like he was super locked in
00:08:41or super happy when we were doing,
00:08:42like if you're an injured player on the sidelines,
00:08:44you clap that shit up.
00:08:46You know, you root your guys on,
00:08:47but if you're just upset that you're not in
00:08:49and maybe Steve Kerr's doing this on purpose.
00:08:51Yeah.
00:08:52Maybe Steve Kerr's trying to stop the dynasty
00:08:53before it starts.
00:08:55No, see, that's what I appreciate about Steve Kerr
00:08:58even though he's a classless piece of shit.
00:09:00Jason Tatum was there in the last Olympics.
00:09:01He led the team.
00:09:03Gold medal, LeBron wasn't there.
00:09:05Steph Curry wasn't there.
00:09:06Joel Embiid wasn't there.
00:09:07Yet somehow Joel Embiid starting this game,
00:09:09he's the worst player on the fucking team,
00:09:11probably in the whole Olympics.
00:09:13But also, I shouldn't be screaming.
00:09:17They glossed over,
00:09:19they didn't put Jalen Brown on the team.
00:09:21And now this, the Celtics are gonna be
00:09:24the most motivated championship winning team of all time
00:09:27coming into next year.
00:09:28It's gonna be great for Jason Tatum to be back on a team
00:09:31in an organization that actually appreciates him.
00:09:33So in a way, I'm happy that Steve Kerr did what he did,
00:09:37even though he's a piece of shit.
00:09:38Okay, so Derek White and Drew Holliday did play a lot
00:09:42and they played well.
00:09:43Yeah.
00:09:44Question for you, Hank.
00:09:45Does Jason Tatum,
00:09:46do you think he took a shower after the game?
00:09:49No.
00:09:50Do you think he showered with the boys?
00:09:51Just to kind of feel some camaraderie?
00:09:54No, probably not.
00:09:55Yeah, that's tough.
00:09:56So you think he's gonna get heavy minutes
00:09:58in the second game?
00:10:00Yeah, I mean, Steve Kerr's little excuse after
00:10:03was like, you know, with KD coming.
00:10:06Thing is, they're up 20.
00:10:07Like, he's all NBA.
00:10:08Not all games, no.
00:10:10Wait, are you saying Jason Tatum
00:10:11should at least be like a walk-on scrub player?
00:10:15Steve Kerr said he couldn't find time
00:10:17to put him in or whatever, which is just bullshit.
00:10:19Like, just let him play.
00:10:20I think what Hank's saying is that the team
00:10:22did really, really well without Jason Tatum on the court.
00:10:24Also, Kevin Durant was like out of this world good.
00:10:27He started the game eight for eight, could not miss.
00:10:29So you wanted Jason Tatum to play instead of him?
00:10:33No, I just think when you have a guy, again,
00:10:36he's put in the time, he's an all-NBA first-team player
00:10:40the last two years.
00:10:41He just won a NBA championship.
00:10:44I think you can find him a couple minutes.
00:10:45Like, at least mix him in the rotation.
00:10:47It's pretty disrespectful not to, but it is what it is.
00:10:50But you were saying you would rather,
00:10:52you think that he should get the minutes
00:10:53of an NBA Finals MVP guy.
00:10:57I never said that.
00:10:58Like, that's literally you just putting words in my mouth.
00:11:00I never, ever once said that.
00:11:02But Kevin Durant played so well today.
00:11:03You can't take him out when he's shooting that well.
00:11:06No, Kevin Durant played phenomenal, yeah.
00:11:09Kevin Durant's an all-time player.
00:11:12Yeah, and Kevin Durant has embraced the nickname,
00:11:14finally, the Slim Reaper, which is about goddamn time
00:11:17because it's such a good nickname.
00:11:19He had the Slim Reaper, he had the tarantula,
00:11:21and he was like, no, I wanna be called the Servant instead
00:11:24because he didn't feel he was worthy of the nickname.
00:11:26No, this is a Slim Reaper.
00:11:27We have a Slim Reaper Kevin Durant in these Olympics.
00:11:30Yes, and he was incredible.
00:11:34I mean, he does play well on super teams.
00:11:36Yeah, it's true.
00:11:37That's just a fact.
00:11:37It's true.
00:11:38So, Hank, any other comments from vacation?
00:11:41Because this had to have, you know, you're on vacation,
00:11:42you deserve your vacation, to then see this happen.
00:11:47You're like, goddammit, I'm gonna have to do
00:11:50like 10 minutes of my job today.
00:11:52That's gotta be brutal.
00:11:53Yeah, I did listen to the podcast earlier,
00:11:56Parada's podcast.
00:11:57I got one minute in before I turned it off, so.
00:11:59Why, what did we say?
00:12:01We were nice.
00:12:02I think you started it by, well, again,
00:12:05because it's like, I talked to you guys behind the scenes,
00:12:05I'm like, Hank, my whole family's gonna be together.
00:12:07Oh yeah, the Wednesday, Wednesday start of a vacation.
00:12:11They're all gonna get together for the first time
00:12:13and I don't know how long.
00:12:14Do you mind if I take Wednesday off?
00:12:15Like, yeah, absolutely, no problem.
00:12:17Do what you gotta do, like, don't worry.
00:12:19And then I listened to the podcast and it's like,
00:12:21well, Hank's not here, he fucking took a vacation.
00:12:23I mean, the Lockwoods start their vacations on Wednesdays.
00:12:26Yeah.
00:12:27Do you not regretting going even earlier?
00:12:28The Lockwoods didn't plan their vacation
00:12:29around the vacation you planned
00:12:30that you're not even taking.
00:12:33You should have gone earlier, Hank.
00:12:35You should have taken two weeks.
00:12:36Yeah, I might just not, you know,
00:12:37I might just stay out here.
00:12:38Well, the good news is you are gonna make it back
00:12:41next week for us to golf.
00:12:43Which I didn't plan, for the record.
00:12:45Well, you did.
00:12:46Well, I am planning it now, but you set it up.
00:12:49I know, you set it all up.
00:12:52No, you set it up.
00:12:53You said, do you wanna play golf?
00:12:54And I said, sure.
00:12:56Oh, on Friday.
00:12:57Yeah.
00:12:59I thought you were talking about the recruit week.
00:13:00Well, yeah, this is your,
00:13:01you planned this vacation week, big cat.
00:13:04I know, and I had circumstances
00:13:05that made me not take a vacation.
00:13:07But I planned this vacation week.
00:13:11Right, and then I was like,
00:13:12hey, like I know what you planned this vacation week.
00:13:14My family's getting together.
00:13:15Do you mind if I take one day off?
00:13:16Like, yeah, no problem, dude, yeah, of course.
00:13:18Is that how we sound?
00:13:19No, I'm just happy that you're happy, Hank,
00:13:21because I'm looking forward to you getting back
00:13:23in the best of moods.
00:13:24Yeah, and hopefully Jason Tatum plays
00:13:26at least a minute before you get back.
00:13:29Yeah, I hope so.
00:13:30This is kind of like a big vacation for Jason Tatum.
00:13:32Yeah, that's true.
00:13:33He's going over to France, Hank.
00:13:34He's getting an all-expense-paid vacation to France.
00:13:36His week has been the exact same as Max's.
00:13:38Yeah.
00:13:40Probably down to how many crepes they've been eating.
00:13:43Yeah.
00:13:44Okay, Hank, well, any other last words on Jason Tatum?
00:13:46Good job to Derek White and Drew Holiday.
00:13:49Yeah, love those guys, miss you guys.
00:13:51I miss you guys a lot.
00:13:52Yeah, it was fun seeing you.
00:13:53You will be part of Mount Rushmore.
00:13:55We taped those last week.
00:13:56So you'll still hear from Hank,
00:13:59but we had to at least check in on,
00:14:01oh, you also turned it off
00:14:02because the aura conversation came back?
00:14:06I don't even think I made it that far.
00:14:07Yeah, the aura conversation.
00:14:10And I discussed it, and let's be honest,
00:14:11given what happened today, he lost 1,000 aura.
00:14:14You can't-
00:14:15Also, you guys didn't, like, no.
00:14:17His aura's at all-time lows right now.
00:14:19You can't, you can't.
00:14:20Hank, you can see him on the bench.
00:14:21It's been aura on the bench.
00:14:22He was on the bench sulking.
00:14:23Actually, Hank-
00:14:24No, no, no, no, no.
00:14:25This is where you're wrong.
00:14:26Okay.
00:14:27I'm just gonna, don't wake the baby.
00:14:29Don't wake the baby.
00:14:31Hank's a father.
00:14:34No, it's his nephew.
00:14:34Double uncle.
00:14:35Double uncle.
00:14:36Oh, double uncle.
00:14:37What's that?
00:14:38I have a niece and a nephew.
00:14:39Oh, wow.
00:14:41He's still just a single uncle.
00:14:42Uncle of both.
00:14:43Uncle of two.
00:14:46The clip of him shaking his head
00:14:48and chewing the gum on the bench is, like,
00:14:50that's an aura clip.
00:14:51That's a, when he drops 40,
00:14:53like, when he, like, that's a,
00:14:54when he fucking drops 60
00:14:55on Steve Kerr's dumbass face next year, aura.
00:14:59All right, so, Hank, is this considered aura?
00:15:01When a trusted Twitter account, NBA Central,
00:15:05tweets out,
00:15:06Jason Tatum passed 300 Gatorade cups to his teammates,
00:15:09breaking Thanasis Antetokounmpo's record,
00:15:12and then Gatorade replies and says,
00:15:14man of the people,
00:15:15and then quickly deletes it
00:15:16because Jason Tatum is a Gatorade athlete
00:15:19and it's making fun of Jason Tatum.
00:15:21Yeah, Gatorade fucking sucks, too.
00:15:22I like body armor.
00:15:24Okay, fair point.
00:15:24Yeah, good point.
00:15:25Facts.
00:15:27Okay, well, Hank, thank you,
00:15:28and we'll see you in a few days.
00:15:31Yeah, see you Friday.
00:15:32I'm looking forward to it.
00:15:33Okay, yeah, for the golf.
00:15:34Bye, Hank.
00:15:36Bye, Hank.
00:15:37Bye.
00:15:37Okay, that was Henry Lockwood, our good friend,
00:15:40and yeah, Jason Tatum did look sad.
00:15:43He looked very sad,
00:15:44and I like to just imagine Hank watching the game
00:15:46and being like, okay, here to support my country.
00:15:49Jason's gonna get in soon.
00:15:50Yeah.
00:15:51And then the first quarter's over.
00:15:52Well, Jason's gotta get in and start the second quarter.
00:15:54And then at what point do you just,
00:15:55you opt out of the game?
00:15:57I mean, Derek White and Drew Holiday did play well,
00:15:59but it is Jason Tatum.
00:16:01Now that Hank is not on, I actually will back him.
00:16:04What the fuck is Steve Kerr doing?
00:16:05It's a weird move.
00:16:06Just put him in for five minutes,
00:16:08just so it's not a story right now.
00:16:11It's a very strange move,
00:16:12and maybe he's gonna go
00:16:13with a completely different rotation in game two
00:16:15and have Tatum play the entire time
00:16:17and have somebody else sit out for most of the game.
00:16:19Yeah.
00:16:20I don't know.
00:16:21I don't know what Steve Kerr's up to,
00:16:21but it would be awesome if Steve Kerr was just trying
00:16:22to fuck with the Celtics' chemistry right now
00:16:25and just piss off their star player.
00:16:27It was fun watching this team play
00:16:29because they're just so loaded.
00:16:30Like watching LeBron throw alley-oops
00:16:33to Anthony Edwards is just fun.
00:16:35Yeah, and I loved,
00:16:36LeBron was pissed off today too.
00:16:37Yeah.
00:16:38We got old school angry LeBron,
00:16:39which is nice to see.
00:16:41And yeah, made Jokic look human at times.
00:16:44Although Jokic got whatever he wanted
00:16:46when he was hosting up.
00:16:46You can't stop that.
00:16:47And he also is playing with, you know,
00:16:50I mean, there's, I think Jovich is on an NBA roster,
00:16:54but there's not like,
00:16:55he's not playing with the guys that LeBron's playing.
00:16:58Yeah.
00:16:59It's not really fair.
00:17:00You think Jokic is going to stop
00:17:01by the equestrian competition for a while?
00:17:02He's got to.
00:17:03Let's check out some horses.
00:17:04He's probably living with the horses.
00:17:05He's probably sleeping in the stables.
00:17:06Memes was watching it today
00:17:08and he was like getting a little horny.
00:17:11About the horses?
00:17:11No, the women.
00:17:12Okay.
00:17:13That's better than I thought.
00:17:14Yeah.
00:17:15You're into the crazy horse girls memes?
00:17:18Yeah, I found out you can bet on it.
00:17:19It's called dressage.
00:17:20Yeah, dressage.
00:17:22Oh, that's where the horses do the, they crip walk.
00:17:24Yeah.
00:17:25Either way, the Olympics have started.
00:17:28It was a wild opening ceremony
00:17:31that I think they've deleted from the internet
00:17:34because it was getting some backlash.
00:17:36It was weird.
00:17:37The Olympics are, they're very strange about rights though.
00:17:39I know every year they will come at,
00:17:42they shut down Twitter accounts left and right
00:17:43for posting the highlights.
00:17:44Yeah, I'm saying like the actual Olympics,
00:17:46I think they, because the opening ceremonies were,
00:17:49it was basically watching a boat go by
00:17:52and then like a fever dream episode or Zoolander.
00:18:00That was what it was.
00:18:01There was.
00:18:01It was just like guys and girls walking up and down
00:18:04a rain drenched runway and then be like,
00:18:07oh, and there is Finland.
00:18:09Yeah, it was very strange.
00:18:11There was that one part where there was a lady
00:18:12that was holding her head.
00:18:14Yeah.
00:18:14And then she started singing and then Gojira,
00:18:16the heavy metal band started absolutely rocking out.
00:18:18Yeah.
00:18:19That part was kind of cool.
00:18:19And then the blue guy.
00:18:21The blue guy was weird.
00:18:23Then they had the horse in the river, the white horse.
00:18:26That was kind of cool.
00:18:27Then they lit the flame, but it wasn't,
00:18:30yeah, the Olympic flame, but it really wasn't.
00:18:32It was a balloon.
00:18:34It was a balloon that went up in the air.
00:18:35Yeah, they had Rafa Nadal carry the torch.
00:18:37Yeah, that was.
00:18:38Which is very bizarre.
00:18:39Maybe the most cucked behavior that I've ever seen
00:18:41to have one of your country's rivals
00:18:43as like a prominent figure at the very end.
00:18:45It's like, wasn't Chicago supposed to get the Olympics?
00:18:48We were in the running for these Olympics.
00:18:49Thank God we didn't get them.
00:18:50Yeah, that would be like having Aaron Rodgers
00:18:53or Miss O'Leary's cow gets to light the torch.
00:18:55Yeah, very, very bizarre.
00:18:56I guess because he is like always wins the French Open.
00:19:01Yeah.
00:19:02That's it?
00:19:02That's it, yeah.
00:19:03He's French national hero, Rafa Nadal.
00:19:04I guess he is kind of like part of French history.
00:19:07Yeah.
00:19:08He just wins the French Open.
00:19:09I think that maybe that's what it was.
00:19:10Like Vietnam gets the Olympics.
00:19:12We're gonna have Sylvester Stallone
00:19:13light the torch for his work in Rambo.
00:19:15Yeah, I enjoyed it, but it was also very bizarre at times.
00:19:20Then we also had the picture of LeBron on the boat,
00:19:22which was sick.
00:19:23That was a cool picture.
00:19:24Yeah, it looked like Washington crossing the Delaware.
00:19:26Yeah.
00:19:27Just leading the charge.
00:19:28Him and was it Coco Gauff, right?
00:19:30Coco Gauff.
00:19:31The other flag bearer?
00:19:32Yeah.
00:19:33I get sick of all the countries though.
00:19:34There's too many countries.
00:19:35There's a lot of countries.
00:19:36Can we make less countries in the world?
00:19:37Well, it's also kind of sucks
00:19:39when you don't have enough athletes,
00:19:41you had to share the boat with like three other countries.
00:19:43Yeah, that's-
00:19:44That was a little bit of a cut, but hey.
00:19:45That's really rough.
00:19:46Yeah.
00:19:47Okay, what else in the sports world we have?
00:19:52MLB trade deadline is this week.
00:19:54Hot stove week.
00:19:55Hot stove week.
00:19:56The Yankees made a move.
00:19:57The Cubs made a move, who are not buyers.
00:20:00The Mariners made a move.
00:20:01Mariners made a move.
00:20:03I feel like the Mariners could do something.
00:20:06Yeah, they're-
00:20:07They've got good pitching.
00:20:08Yeah, they're a good team.
00:20:09I mean, they've never done anything,
00:20:11but they're a good team.
00:20:13They've got good pitching.
00:20:14Now, maybe they have some hitting.
00:20:15Yeah, the Cubs move was very much people are,
00:20:20some people are upset because it looks like they're buyers.
00:20:22They got Paredes from the Rays
00:20:24who is under contract for three years.
00:20:26So I kind of like it because it's not-
00:20:28It's not a rental, yeah.
00:20:29It's not a rent, there's no rentals.
00:20:30If they did a rental, I'd be very upset.
00:20:32It's trying to build,
00:20:33basically like get early into free agency.
00:20:36Yeah.
00:20:37So, but yeah, there's,
00:20:38we got who Jazz is on the Yankees now.
00:20:42Jazz Chisholm.
00:20:43Jazz Chisholm.
00:20:44Yeah.
00:20:46I just saw a bunch of Yankees fans being like,
00:20:47he doesn't solve a lot of problems,
00:20:49but his name is really cool.
00:20:51Yeah, there was that-
00:20:51And that is true.
00:20:52Yeah, there was that great,
00:20:54do you see that catch in the outfield
00:20:55that wasn't in the Red Sox-Yankees game this weekend?
00:20:58No.
00:20:59The dude jumped into the stands, caught the ball,
00:21:01and as he's falling, the right fielder,
00:21:03as he's falling into the crowd,
00:21:04he bumps his glove on a Yankee fan,
00:21:07the ball drops, and it's a home run.
00:21:09Ooh.
00:21:10It's fucking wild.
00:21:11That is wild.
00:21:12Have the Mets done anything, memes?
00:21:14The Mets traded for Jesse Winker.
00:21:16Okay.
00:21:17From the Nationals,
00:21:18and then they also got a pitcher who got lit up today.
00:21:22Ryan Stanek.
00:21:23Yeah.
00:21:24Yeah.
00:21:24Yeah, Austin Riley pimped one.
00:21:25Yeah, and I think the,
00:21:27oh, Max had his moment where
00:21:29he thought he was getting Mike Trout, which was fun.
00:21:31Yeah.
00:21:32The Phillies, Jeff Passan tweeted
00:21:34that the Phillies traded their top two prospects
00:21:38to the Angels for help,
00:21:39and it was, I think, just a pitcher they got.
00:21:41Yeah, it's, Mike Trout,
00:21:43I don't know if he would want to play in Philly.
00:21:45I think he'd want to.
00:21:46He likes football season too much.
00:21:47I think he'd be like, great,
00:21:48I've been wearing a Phillies jersey
00:21:50underneath my Angels jersey every game, so.
00:21:53I think he loves Philadelphia,
00:21:55but there's probably something nice to him
00:21:57about just not having to worry about expectations at all.
00:21:59Yeah, yeah.
00:21:59I know what's gonna happen, by the way.
00:22:01The Cubs just getting any name,
00:22:04new name in the trade deadline,
00:22:05even though it's not a rental,
00:22:06I'm gonna convince myself, like, oh, they might get hot.
00:22:09I mean, you just get in the playoffs.
00:22:11Pitching is good.
00:22:12Weird shit happens in the playoffs.
00:22:13Yeah.
00:22:16I forgot to say, so Embiid was the other story
00:22:19from the basketball game,
00:22:20and we had Max send us a video,
00:22:22because he's in Europe.
00:22:25We didn't want him to Zoom in,
00:22:26it's like four in the morning there,
00:22:27but we asked Max to please address
00:22:29the fact that Embiid sucks.
00:22:30So here's Max.
00:22:35All right, I'm here in Paris.
00:22:38Nice game of war, Max.
00:22:39Embiid may not have had his best game.
00:22:43But I didn't watch it,
00:22:44because I was in my French hotel,
00:22:46and for some reason,
00:22:47they were playing men's French volleyball.
00:22:51So I don't really know what to say.
00:22:52All I can really say is that-
00:22:53Is he outside the Moulin Rouge right now?
00:22:54He at least played the game.
00:22:56You gotta give someone credit
00:22:57for wanting to go out there
00:22:58and represent the country of the USA.
00:23:00Can't say that about everyone else on the court.
00:23:02Can't say that about everyone else on the court,
00:23:04and he's gotta shoot more.
00:23:06And Joe Gucci had a much worse half
00:23:08in the second half than he did in the first half.
00:23:10So there were positives.
00:23:11We can build off this.
00:23:12It's just game one.
00:23:13It's a long tournament.
00:23:15Embiid will be the elite self that he is.
00:23:18We'll be fine.
00:23:19Jason Tatum sucks.
00:23:20No worries.
00:23:21Okay, so it's not really a long term.
00:23:23It's two weeks.
00:23:24But this is one of those times, BFT,
00:23:28where I realize it just pays to be us
00:23:31and such tremendous losers,
00:23:32because we're making Hank and Max
00:23:36answer for their players.
00:23:38Hank has three players from his team
00:23:41on the court,
00:23:42but we're making them answer for their players sucking
00:23:45when we wouldn't even come close
00:23:48to even coming close to having a guy on the court
00:23:51for one of our teams.
00:23:52And so I pointed out, I made a meme.
00:23:54Actually, Josh Giddey was really awesome for Australia.
00:23:57He was.
00:23:58I made a meme earlier,
00:23:59and it was the Drake when he was wearing the UK,
00:24:02the Kentucky outfit,
00:24:03and people said, bro thinks he's on the team.
00:24:04It was Jason Tatum just on the sidelines
00:24:06wearing Team USA.
00:24:07He thinks he's on the team.
00:24:08Somebody responded to me,
00:24:09and they said, can you even name your top five wizards
00:24:12in franchise history?
00:24:14And that, I thought about it,
00:24:15and I was like, this is actually a fair point.
00:24:18It's a good problem to have, I guess.
00:24:20But what we've successfully done
00:24:22is Hank and Max are so beaten down
00:24:24by us going after Tatum's aura,
00:24:26which is a made up thing that doesn't actually exist,
00:24:28but it pisses them off.
00:24:29And then Embiid not winning championships.
00:24:31They're so mad about that
00:24:33that they just turn on each other instead.
00:24:35So Max's whole thing was just like,
00:24:38Jason Tatum wasn't on the court.
00:24:39He has no aura, at least Embiid was on the court.
00:24:41And Hank's whole thing was,
00:24:43at least he didn't get on the court
00:24:44and embarrass himself like Embiid.
00:24:46So we've done a great job as puppet masters.
00:24:48A pivot.
00:24:49Having our little Marianettes.
00:24:51They should turn on us and unite to fight against us,
00:24:54but they're just at each other's throats,
00:24:55which is beautiful.
00:24:56We can't let them ever figure out
00:24:57that they could fight against us.
00:24:59No.
00:24:59Because once that day happens,
00:25:01it's like they unionize against us.
00:25:02We're fucked.
00:25:03Yeah, but they also naturally hate each other.
00:25:06Yeah, they hate each other,
00:25:07and I mean, it's one of those things that when we,
00:25:10if you just put us in the arena with either of them
00:25:12in a debate, it just,
00:25:13it falls apart very quickly for them.
00:25:15So there was one other thing about the Olympics
00:25:17that I wanted to make note of,
00:25:18and that was,
00:25:19did you see the Bob the Cap Catcher guy?
00:25:22Awesome.
00:25:23Okay, so Bob the Cap Catcher,
00:25:25one of the swimmers lost her swim cap in the pool.
00:25:28They had to delay the start of the next race
00:25:30because there was a swim cap on the bottom of the pool
00:25:32and the swimmers aren't allowed to get in there
00:25:34and get it out themselves.
00:25:35So they call this random dude out.
00:25:37They said he's an Olympic official.
00:25:38He comes out wearing a multicolored Speedo,
00:25:41and he's got, I guess,
00:25:42dad bod would be a fair way to describe his body.
00:25:45Yes.
00:25:46He doesn't look like an Olympic athlete.
00:25:47I don't know if it's-
00:25:47He's not in bad shape,
00:25:48but he's not like-
00:25:50He doesn't have an Olympic body.
00:25:51Yeah, he's not chiseled out of marble.
00:25:52Yeah.
00:25:53And so Bob comes out in a Speedo,
00:25:54dives in, gets the cap,
00:25:55goes to the sideline,
00:25:56holds it up.
00:25:57The announcers go nuts for him.
00:25:59It was a very cool moment,
00:26:00but then I started to think about it.
00:26:03Are we being played?
00:26:04Why?
00:26:05Should we stay woke on Bob the Cap Catcher?
00:26:07Is this a viral moment that they were trying to get?
00:26:08A viral moment planted,
00:26:09or maybe he's working for an advertising firm,
00:26:13and he's a mascot of some company.
00:26:16Are they trying to incept us into viral moments?
00:26:18Do they name dudes Bob in France?
00:26:21That's a great point.
00:26:23I think it would just be Robert.
00:26:24Robert.
00:26:24It'd be Robert.
00:26:25Yeah.
00:26:26Yeah.
00:26:27There's no way there's anyone in France
00:26:30that's a French national that's Bob.
00:26:32Bob.
00:26:33No, no, it's Robert.
00:26:34Bob, yeah.
00:26:34It would be Robert,
00:26:35but I would never dream of shortening it to Rob.
00:26:37And they had the fucking Minions in the opening ceremony
00:26:40doing advertising work for Disney.
00:26:42Oh, by the way,
00:26:44Peyton Manning just being on the opening ceremony.
00:26:46That was weird.
00:26:47Yeah.
00:26:48I was just watching.
00:26:49Is that Peyton Manning's voice?
00:26:50I don't want to share my football players
00:26:52with the rest of the world.
00:26:53No.
00:26:53They don't get to know about all the cool stuff
00:26:55that we watch that they don't get to watch.
00:26:56I do like the fact,
00:26:57the Olympics though,
00:26:58because there's so many sports,
00:27:00they really have to stretch it thin on announcers.
00:27:02So you had Peyton Manning.
00:27:04I think Kelly Clarkson was on it.
00:27:06Dwayne Wade did the USA game today.
00:27:07Dwayne Wade,
00:27:10I thought he did a fine job.
00:27:11You don't need a catchphrase for every moment.
00:27:14He was trying to do any,
00:27:15and if he does the,
00:27:17his pronouns are he, him, for LeBron one more time,
00:27:19I'm going to put a bullet in my head.
00:27:21It was bad.
00:27:21He's done that so many goddamn times.
00:27:23That part was really bad.
00:27:25He did one good,
00:27:25he has one good line,
00:27:26and he's like,
00:27:27I'm just going to fucking keep doing it.
00:27:28I feel like,
00:27:29I feel like they'll get better.
00:27:30They did an okay job.
00:27:31No, I thought-
00:27:32I like the announcing.
00:27:34In totality was fine.
00:27:35It's more that you could tell
00:27:37he's trying to do catchphrases on every moment.
00:27:41It's like,
00:27:41just, it's fine.
00:27:42We're good.
00:27:43Yeah.
00:27:44And Noah Eagle,
00:27:45I don't know how his voice sounds
00:27:46like he's been doing it for 50 years,
00:27:48but it's insane.
00:27:49Yeah, it's a big game voice.
00:27:51Yeah.
00:27:52And then Mike Tirico was doing the opening ceremonies.
00:27:54To me, that feels like
00:27:55that would be a very hard thing to announce.
00:27:57Yeah.
00:27:58Like all the countries and shit
00:27:58and getting all the timing right,
00:27:59and meanwhile,
00:28:00you feel like you're on acid
00:28:02because you have a horse running across the water.
00:28:03And Peyton Manning and Kelly Clarkson
00:28:05sitting on either side of you.
00:28:07Yeah.
00:28:07They bring out the weirdest celebrities for the Olympics.
00:28:10Yeah.
00:28:11It's really strange how they go,
00:28:12the people with like the highest Q scores
00:28:15that were super popular 10 years ago.
00:28:17Yeah.
00:28:18That's what they go to.
00:28:18It is, it is.
00:28:19So yeah, that's our Olympics.
00:28:20We'll talk about more Olympics as the games progress.
00:28:23I think we've,
00:28:24we already won a gold medal, right?
00:28:25Yeah, we got a gold.
00:28:27Got a gold in the 100 meter.
00:28:29Yeah.
00:28:30You know, Dressel, recurring guest.
00:28:32That's right, yeah.
00:28:33Yeah, great dude.
00:28:34So was he the guy that we got into the debate with
00:28:35over whether the pool was blue or the water was blue?
00:28:37I believe so.
00:28:38What did we figure out about that?
00:28:39I don't think we got an answer to it.
00:28:42We gotta restart that.
00:28:45Oh, here's the medals race.
00:28:47Okay.
00:28:47USA.
00:28:48Oh, we have three golds.
00:28:50Where'd we get all our golds?
00:28:51Did we dominate the Summer Olympics?
00:28:53This is a fucking joke.
00:28:54These guys try so hard.
00:28:56The swimming events?
00:28:58I think it was swimming.
00:28:59I think we won,
00:28:59oh, we won fence.
00:29:01We won a gold in fencing?
00:29:02Shout out JOC, he laid the groundwork.
00:29:05Yeah, swimming.
00:29:06Katie Ledecky finished third, though.
00:29:08Yeah, that was tough to watch.
00:29:09That's bad.
00:29:10Did you see the Taiwanese diver that landed on his back?
00:29:12No.
00:29:13That dude rocks.
00:29:14I gotta see that.
00:29:15That's the other thing is, like you said,
00:29:16they don't let you share highlights.
00:29:18Yeah.
00:29:19So it's like you can't really see anything.
00:29:20You just gotta be tuned in.
00:29:21Well, that one-
00:29:22I guess that's what they're trying to do,
00:29:23but it would be nice to be able to see some highlights.
00:29:25I think that the,
00:29:26that U.S. Women's Rugby could win the gold medal
00:29:28because they've got Ilona Mayer,
00:29:30she had two all-time truck stick runs.
00:29:32She's like Lady Rob Gronkowski.
00:29:35That's awesome.
00:29:36I think it was a top play on SportsCenter tonight,
00:29:39but she's fucking awesome,
00:29:40and she's just a tank running people over.
00:29:42So maybe we'll get a gold medal from that in rugby.
00:29:44I'll count that as just rugby being back,
00:29:46if her ladies can get one.
00:29:47Olympics are fun.
00:29:48Olympics are fun.
00:29:49Free sports.
00:29:50All right, wait.
00:29:51Oh, it was,
00:29:53it was,
00:29:55was it a Taiwanese, or was it,
00:29:58it was a, I think it was a Filipino.
00:30:00It was a Filipino diver?
00:30:00Yeah, the guy who just like smashes back.
00:30:03Yeah.
00:30:04Yeah, that was awesome.
00:30:06That was sick.
00:30:07And then South Sudan won in basketball.
00:30:08Shout out Luol Deng.
00:30:09Luol Deng's got that program going the right direction.
00:30:11We gotta play him on Tuesday.
00:30:13Okay, anything else sports-wise?
00:30:17Reminder, again, takeys are on Wednesday.
00:30:19Great takeys coming up.
00:30:2128 awards.

00:32:24Okay, who's back of the week?
00:32:26We're gonna do the Mount Rushmore
00:32:27on the other side of the John Elway interview.
00:32:30Like I said, when Hank was on,
00:32:32Hank and Max, we already recorded that,
00:32:34so they will be part of it.
00:32:36They're not gonna miss Mount Rushmore.
00:32:37After school snacks.
00:32:38Yeah, after school snacks, which was very funny.
00:32:42PFT, you're who's back of the week?
00:32:44My who's back of the week is SpyGate.
00:32:46Oh.
00:32:47But this time it's Canadian.
00:32:48Oh.
00:32:48The Canadian women's soccer team
00:32:51has sent their coach home.
00:32:52Their assistant coach and technical analyst
00:32:56have also been sent home.
00:32:57They have been docked six points in the group stage,
00:33:00which is equivalent to two wins.
00:33:02So they're out?
00:33:03No, they're not out.
00:33:05But six points, they're gonna be out.
00:33:07They won their first two games.
00:33:09Oh, so they're back to zero?
00:33:11So if they win their third game,
00:33:13I think they qualify for the next round.
00:33:15Wow.
00:33:15They have to win all three, but their coach,
00:33:17it was against New Zealand,
00:33:19so New Zealand was practicing,
00:33:20and the coach hears a whir in the background.
00:33:23He looks up in the sky, there's a fucking drone there.
00:33:25It's like one of those Ukrainian-Russian videos
00:33:28that they force feed us on Twitter now.
00:33:29But he sees the drone, notifies the people at the Olympics,
00:33:33the officials look into it, they find the footage,
00:33:36it's a Canadian drone, and apparently
00:33:37they've been doing this going back years.
00:33:40Back in World Cups, they've been SpyGating
00:33:42on people's practices.
00:33:43Wow.
00:33:44So they got caught, but then now they're on a fuck you tour
00:33:47and they're beating everybody.
00:33:48So if they win their next game,
00:33:49I'm pretty sure they automatically qualify
00:33:51Whoa.
00:33:52For the next one.
00:33:53So, this is a dumb question,
00:33:56what do you spy on for soccer?
00:33:59Just formations, I guess.
00:34:00They're running fast down the field?
00:34:02Yeah, this person.
00:34:03And let them pass to that person?
00:34:04This person, it looks like they're really, really hurt.
00:34:06Oh no, wait, they just got up, they're fine.
00:34:07I guess they're set pieces?
00:34:09Yeah, you can spy probably on set pieces
00:34:11and just formations, that's probably all you get.
00:34:13Got it.
00:34:14And they've been doing this going back years,
00:34:15but it was funny because you could look at
00:34:18where they were alleged to have used the drone
00:34:19and then the result of the game
00:34:21and they were getting their ass kicked with the drone.
00:34:22Oh.
00:34:23So it wasn't like they were actually
00:34:24It wasn't working.
00:34:25That much from, but they still were trying to drone.
00:34:27They were getting their Obama on.
00:34:28I kind of like that.
00:34:30If you're not cheating, you're not trying.
00:34:31Yeah, and it's also like, I don't know,
00:34:34soccer, drones, just do it.
00:34:36Yeah, I mean, I am in favor of trying to get an edge
00:34:40wherever you can.
00:34:41Yeah, that's very brazen.
00:34:44Yeah.
00:34:45So like, here's a drone over your practice.
00:34:47I hope they don't see it.
00:34:48Yeah.
00:34:49Okay, my who's back of the week is Urban Meyer.
00:34:53Urban Meyer's back.
00:34:55I just saw that he has an update to his brew house.
00:35:01Urban Meyer's brew house.
00:35:02He has a Mexican style lager.
00:35:05Do you know the name of it?
00:35:07No.
00:35:08Oh.
00:35:09Triple Equis?
00:35:09No.
00:35:10Okay.
00:35:11It's called El Lager.
00:35:13El.
00:35:14El Lager.
00:35:15Oh, El Lager.
00:35:16El Lager.
00:35:17El Lager.
00:35:18That's great.
00:35:19That's great, I love it.
00:35:20That sounds like what Budweiser would put on
00:35:22with their can of beers like the NBA does
00:35:23during Hispanic Heritage Month.
00:35:25Yeah, exactly.
00:35:26El Lager.
00:35:27Yeah.
00:35:28But here's the kicker, PFT.
00:35:30Don't say kicker around, Urban.
00:35:31Yeah, that's true.
00:35:33He took a picture from with, I guess his co-owner
00:35:37or some gentleman at his brew house
00:35:40where they sell El Lager.
00:35:41He's wearing the exact same polo as the famous knight
00:35:45and you can't see where his right hand is.
00:35:49So, Urban Meyer might just be putting
00:35:51his fingers up buttholes again.
00:35:53Urban Meyer is probably a swinger.
00:35:54Yeah.
00:35:55You remember when he was on that boat ride
00:35:57and he was doing an interview?
00:35:58Oh, yeah.
00:35:59That shirtless guy who just walked around
00:36:01in the background?
00:36:02Yeah, he's got his, you can't see where his right hand is
00:36:05and he's taking a picture with four gentlemen
00:36:07and the gentleman to his right has the biggest smile
00:36:11of anyone in the picture.
00:36:12He's getting goose.
00:36:12Yeah, and I don't think that's just the El Lager talking.
00:36:14El Lager, where is his brew house?
00:36:16I think it's in Columbus.
00:36:18I might have to stop by.
00:36:20The Lager.
00:36:21I'm gonna be in Columbus on Friday.
00:36:23I'm gonna do a little fact-finding tour.
00:36:26Just do an El Lager review.
00:36:27I'll do a beer review of El Lager.
00:36:28Yeah, El Lager.
00:36:30I just love it.
00:36:31It's like the laziest name you could come up with.
00:36:33El, also the fact that you're calling it El
00:36:35is just red meat for Michigan fans.
00:36:37Oh, yeah.
00:36:39Huey, you're who's back of the week.
00:36:41My who's back?
00:36:42Swimming rivalries.
00:36:43Oh.
00:36:44I feel like we haven't had a good swimming rivalry
00:36:46since Michael Phelps days and Ryan Lochte.
00:36:48Who could forget Ian Crocker?
00:36:50You know, Chad Laplace.
00:36:51Yeah, that's the torpedo.
00:36:52Yeah, or Ian Thorpe.
00:36:54Yeah, so now Katie Ledecky's having a couple rivalries
00:36:58that have just beat her in the 400 meter.
00:37:00Ariane Titness, it's like Christmas but for tits.
00:37:04Yep.
00:37:05From Australia.
00:37:07She's the Aussie.
00:37:08She won the 400 meter by three full seconds.
00:37:11That seems like a long time.
00:37:12Yeah, and it's not nothing.
00:37:13It's not nothing.
00:37:14Now, Katie Ledecky is still favored in the 800 meter
00:37:16but at a minus 400 and favored in the 1500 meter
00:37:19at a minus 3,500.
00:37:21But, you know, three seconds is three seconds.
00:37:23That could be another 100 meters.
00:37:25I'm just gonna say, I am a fan of Ariane Titness.
00:37:28Titness.
00:37:29Yeah, the Aussie.
00:37:31I gotta take, I'll throw out there about swimming.
00:37:35Michael Phelps ruined swimming for me.
00:37:38Personally.
00:37:39Why?
00:37:40Because he was so goddamn dominant
00:37:43that it happened so recently that I'm watching swimming
00:37:47and I'm like, well, Phelps would've beaten all these guys.
00:37:49Yeah.
00:37:51Do they do the line where it's like,
00:37:52here's where Phelps would've been?
00:37:53They should because it's, you know what I mean?
00:37:56We saw it so recently, him just dominate everyone
00:37:59every single year, year after year.
00:38:01And then to watch it now,
00:38:02they're still incredible athletes
00:38:04but it's like Michael Phelps is in the studio right now.
00:38:07Like he probably could get in the pool
00:38:09and beat all of you right this second if he wanted to.
00:38:11If he had grown up in this era.
00:38:13Yeah.
00:38:14With this technology.
00:38:14Do we have any?
00:38:15I think it needs to be, there just needs to be more time
00:38:17or someone needs to start breaking Phelps' record
00:38:19for me to feel like, oh wow, this is incredible.
00:38:21We're watching because every time I just watch,
00:38:25maybe there have been records broken of his
00:38:27but I just watched it and I'm like,
00:38:29Phelps would've fucking killed him.
00:38:30Do we have any good Olympic controversies?
00:38:32It feels like every time there's like
00:38:34a Summer Olympic Games, there's a controversy
00:38:36about like a new suit somebody's wearing
00:38:38or about like a new bike helmet.
00:38:41No.
00:38:41And then they go back and they're like,
00:38:42do these records even count because this water was faster?
00:38:45Yeah, I don't know.
00:38:46Yeah, there's a springy track.
00:38:47Yeah, the springy track.
00:38:49I learned one the other day that's pretty fun.
00:38:51In the Tour de France, there's a thing called sticky bottles.
00:38:56Have you ever heard this?
00:38:56No.
00:38:57So this is like a big cheating thing.
00:38:59There was a guy basically as angry
00:39:02as the Tour de France can get, that's what it was.
00:39:04He confronted a competitor and said,
00:39:08you sticky bottled that.
00:39:10It's when the car passes a bottle to the guy who's biking
00:39:16and the guy who's biking holds onto the bottle
00:39:18for like an extra beat and gets driven by the car.
00:39:21Because the guy that's taking the water back.
00:39:23Correct.
00:39:24Is pulling him in the car.
00:39:25So they'll pass the bottle out like this
00:39:30and they'll grab it and basically use the push off.
00:39:35That's smart.
00:39:36Yeah, sticky bottles.
00:39:37I don't know, it was just a fun controversy I learned about.
00:39:39Can you draft the car?
00:39:40Can you accidentally swerve in front of the car
00:39:41and let it hit you lightly from behind
00:39:43and nudge you up a little bit?
00:39:44I don't think you can do that.
00:39:44But I would sticky bottle the fuck out of the Tour de France.
00:39:46Yeah, that's just a good idea.
00:39:48I don't blame the cyclists at all.
00:39:49At least they're not using steroids anymore.
00:39:51Well, and they also, the best part about the confrontation
00:39:55that I watched, it wasn't in English
00:39:56but I saw someone who explained it.
00:39:59One guy was like, you sticky bottled.
00:40:01And then the other guy who was being accused
00:40:02was like, where do you think I learned it?
00:40:04Basically being like, you're the sticky bottle master.
00:40:06Yeah, it takes one to know one.
00:40:07Yeah, I saw you do it first.
00:40:09I do love cyclist fights too.
00:40:11Have you ever seen when they actually try to throw hands?
00:40:13Yeah, it doesn't work.
00:40:14It's not really a fight.
00:40:16They're in the realm of athletes
00:40:19that as soon as they get in a fight
00:40:20they just start to try to kick.
00:40:22And you know that that's just.
00:40:23You do like a, yeah, like a flying leg kick
00:40:25because then you know at least the fight's over
00:40:26after you do that because somebody will jump on you
00:40:29on the ground and cover you up.
00:40:30Yeah, all right, good job Huey.
00:40:32Memes, you got a, who's back?
00:40:35Sure.
00:40:35Yeah.
00:40:36Robert Downey Jr.
00:40:37Oh yeah.
00:40:38He is playing Dr. Doom.
00:40:40Okay, so first of all, insult stat that I saw was very mean.
00:40:44They were like Robert Downey Jr.
00:40:45between the time he was announced as Iron Man
00:40:48and the time he was announced as Dr. Doom.
00:40:50The Bears only won one playoff game.
00:40:52That was mean of that person.
00:40:54I don't even know what that time frame is.
00:40:55When was Robert Downey Jr.?
00:40:56Well, I do know the time frame
00:40:57because I know how many Bears playoffs.
00:40:58It was like 2006.
00:41:00Yeah, it was after they've won one game.
00:41:03But what are, explain this to me, memes and PFT.
00:41:11He was Iron Man.
00:41:13Yes.
00:41:14Is he now Dr. Doom in the same universe?
00:41:16So like, wouldn't the characters say,
00:41:18hey dude, aren't you Tony Stark?
00:41:21Yeah, so the last Avengers movie,
00:41:23there was the next phase of Marvel,
00:41:25which was the multiverse,
00:41:28where they could go into different,
00:41:29there's different versions of each character
00:41:33in different universes.
00:41:35Now the person, the bad guy they made
00:41:37the entire plot around,
00:41:40like dozens of movie beat his girlfriend.
00:41:45So now he's out.
00:41:46And Robert Downey Jr. for the record
00:41:48has never done anything wrong.
00:41:50Not recently.
00:41:52Not since he's been Iron Man.
00:41:53Okay, okay, got it.
00:41:55So that's a funny little wrinkle there.
00:41:57Did Marvel just trick America
00:41:59into doing Greek mythology?
00:42:01Because I feel like this is our version
00:42:03of Greek mythology, right?
00:42:04Like 2,000 years from now,
00:42:07there'll be a society and they're gonna unearth
00:42:08all these old Marvel movies and be like,
00:42:10this is what Americans believed in.
00:42:11They thought that there was a giant dude
00:42:13that snapped its fingers and would kill everybody.
00:42:15And then Ant-Man will be like the weird question
00:42:17no one gets right.
00:42:18Yeah.
00:42:19I love that there's an Ant-Man,
00:42:20they made a movie.
00:42:21Paul Rudd, right?
00:42:22Yeah, didn't he fly up some dude's butt?
00:42:24I don't know.
00:42:25And explode?
00:42:25The minute I saw Ant-Man,
00:42:27I was like, this has gone too far.
00:42:28All right, so.
00:42:28I can see fifth graders in like the year 4,000
00:42:31studying Marvel and being like,
00:42:33this is what Americans believed.
00:42:34Yeah.
00:42:35This is what they were up to.
00:42:35I actually might start,
00:42:36because we talked about it on that Mount Rushmore,
00:42:38things we hadn't seen.
00:42:39I've never seen a Marvel movie.
00:42:40I might start with Ant-Man.
00:42:42And just go from there.
00:42:43Go straight from Ant-Man?
00:42:44Go to Ant-Man.
00:42:45All right, so back to Dr. Doom,
00:42:47who is, so, original Dr. Doom,
00:42:50got in trouble, Robert Downey Jr.,
00:42:51squeaky clean, he takes over Dr. Doom.
00:42:54But again, won't people be like,
00:42:57dude, wasn't that Tony Stark?
00:42:58Yeah, so the prediction is that he is,
00:43:02this is an alternate universe Tony Stark,
00:43:04who's a bad Iron Man that's Dr. Doom.
00:43:07Oh.
00:43:08So it's like twin brothers.
00:43:09So he still is Iron Man?
00:43:11Yes, pretty much, just.
00:43:12Who is Dr. Doom?
00:43:14Dr. Doom.
00:43:15Is he related to Big Justice,
00:43:17the Doom and Boom guys?
00:43:18No, afraid not.
00:43:19He is the bad guy in Fantastic Four.
00:43:22Okay.
00:43:23Okay.
00:43:24So what does he do?
00:43:25No relation to the Rizzler?
00:43:26No relation.
00:43:27Okay.
00:43:28Does he have any powers?
00:43:29He's just a badass, made out of metal.
00:43:33Okay.
00:43:34People are excited about this, right?
00:43:35Yeah, people are pumped.
00:43:35I'm excited about this, too.
00:43:37Can't wait.
00:43:38Because they scrapped everything,
00:43:40and then they brought back Robert Downey Jr.,
00:43:42the Russo brothers are directing it,
00:43:43who directed the last two Avengers.
00:43:46Everything's been bad up until this point.
00:43:48Wait, it's gone bad?
00:43:49Yeah, this last phase of Marvel has been very bad.
00:43:52Well, did they run out of source material?
00:43:53Are they still using the comic books?
00:43:56They're kind of using the comic books,
00:43:57but they dove into the multiverse,
00:44:00which has just gotten very confusing.
00:44:03And now they're trying to bring it all back and save it.
00:44:05Got it.
00:44:06Okay.
00:44:07I can't wait for Dr. Doom.
00:44:10I'm fucking jazzed.
00:44:11Yeah, Dr. Doom slash Tony Stark.
00:44:14Okay.
00:44:15Thanks, meme.
00:44:18I'm excited.
00:44:19I'm excited to not watch it,
00:44:20but I'm excited for other people to be excited.
00:44:22Were people excited?
00:44:23People were pumped.
00:44:24He got a big pop.
00:44:25He did.
00:44:26Okay.
00:44:27I'm excited for people to watch it,
00:44:28and then be pissed off about it,
00:44:29because I thought it would be good,
00:44:30and then it's not good.
00:44:31Yeah, I want people to be mad.
00:44:32I want people to complain about the casting of a movie.
00:44:36That's the best.
00:44:37I'm excited to see people pissed off
00:44:38walking out of movie theaters being like,
00:44:39that was not a realistic portrayal of Dr. Doom.
00:44:42Yeah, isn't there a Bob Dylan biopic coming out?
00:44:44People are pissed about that one.
00:44:45Who's playing him?
00:44:47That's why people are pissed.
00:44:48Wait, who would be the person
00:44:50that would piss off the most people playing?
00:44:52Robert Pattinson?
00:44:53No, it's one of the new guys.
00:44:56The new Timothy Chalamet.
00:44:58Okay.
00:44:59Yeah.
00:44:59This is pop culture with PMT.
00:45:02We got our finger on the pulse, baby.
00:45:04I need my kids to start fucking watching shit
00:45:06that they can actually help me be cool again.
00:45:10Like Marvel stuff?
00:45:12Yeah, it's too confusing for me.
00:45:14It's way too confusing.
00:45:15After I missed the first like five movies,
00:45:16I was like, I'm just not gonna do this.
00:45:18We should have Robbie just make us a big chart.
00:45:21If I could see a chart, I think it would help,
00:45:24but there's been so many movies.
00:45:25There's a timeline of movies when they came out.
00:45:27I also need to-
00:45:28We should sneak attack everyone
00:45:31and just go into a bunker and watch every single one
00:45:34and then just come out and just start heavy,
00:45:36heavy drops of like,
00:45:39oh, it's like this time in this movie.
00:45:41You're like, what the fuck just happened?
00:45:42I've been doing that for the last three episodes.
00:45:44I've been dropping godfather quotes.
00:45:46Yeah.
00:45:47Yeah.
00:45:48I still haven't seen it,
00:45:49but I've been looking up the quotes.
00:45:51Yeah.
00:45:52Yeah.
00:45:53Okay.

00:48:12And now here's Jon Elway.
00:48:15Okay, we now welcome on a very, very, very special guest.
00:48:19It is our chill week interviews
00:48:21presented by Coors Light and Chevy Silverado.
00:48:25It is NFL Hall of Famer, Jon Elway, living legend.
00:48:29I gotta tell you this, Jon, just to start.
00:48:32We've been doing this for eight years now.
00:48:34We've had a ton of different guys come through
00:48:36and great interviews.
00:48:38You're up there with maybe a little nerves
00:48:40because you are such a living legend.
00:48:42Do you realize how much of a living legend you are?
00:48:44No, I'm still looking out from these same eyes
00:48:47as I did my whole life.
00:48:48So no, I think that I was happy to be able to play
00:48:51as long as I played and very, very fortunate.
00:48:55But no, I'm still looking out at the same eyes
00:48:57and so enjoying life and glad to be here with you guys.
00:49:00I think what big cats get at too, at least for me,
00:49:03is growing up, when I fell in love with football,
00:49:06you were football.
00:49:07You were a huge part of the NFL.
00:49:09And so those formative years
00:49:10where we fell in love with the game,
00:49:12that was Jon Elway.
00:49:12I was watching Jon Elway comebacks.
00:49:14We're children of the 90s.
00:49:15Fortunately, that's a long time ago,
00:49:17but it was a lot of fun while I played.
00:49:19I played in a great era.
00:49:21Danny Marino, Jim Kelly, Warren Moon, all those guys.
00:49:25It was Joe Montana.
00:49:27So we had a bevy of great quarterbacks back then.
00:49:30It was really special times to play.
00:49:32Obviously, they're making a heck of a lot more money now,
00:49:34but I'm not sure I would trade that.
00:49:35I really enjoyed playing the time when I played
00:49:38and with the guys I played with.
00:49:39Well, have you ever thought about today's day and age
00:49:42in the NFL, guys are passing for such insane numbers?
00:49:45What your numbers would have looked like
00:49:47if you were, it would have been crazy.
00:49:49Not only that, I would look at how they get protected now.
00:49:51They get protected a heck of a lot more now
00:49:53than we did back when we played.
00:49:56So I think I'd enjoy that even probably more than the money
00:49:58and maybe played a little bit longer.
00:50:01The game has just kept growing and growing.
00:50:03And the players and athletes are getting so good now.
00:50:07So with the offenses opening up and the protection rules
00:50:11that they're putting in to protect some of the players,
00:50:13I think it's all a good thing.
00:50:14But it just continues to keep growing and growing.
00:50:17Yeah, so PFT mentioned us falling in love
00:50:20with football in the 90s.
00:50:21When did you fall in love with football?
00:50:23I know you're a son of a coach, so you were around it
00:50:25your whole life.
00:50:26But when was the first moment where you're like,
00:50:28this is the sport I love?
00:50:30Because obviously, we're going to talk about it.
00:50:31You're baseball.
00:50:32You're an incredible baseball player.
00:50:34But when was it football?
00:50:35You know, when I was younger, because my dad
00:50:37was a coach, like you said.
00:50:38So we kind of bounced around.
00:50:40I lived in Missoula, Montana when I was like first
00:50:42through fifth grade.
00:50:43So I didn't start playing.
00:50:44I played baseball and basketball a lot.
00:50:46But tackle football didn't start until I was in the fifth grade.
00:50:49I played one year in fifth grade in Missoula, Montana.
00:50:51I was a running back.
00:50:52And then we moved from there to Pullman, Washington,
00:50:55at Washington State.
00:50:56And they really didn't have, Pullman's not big enough
00:50:58to have really a youth football program.
00:51:01And so I didn't play again until the ninth grade.
00:51:04Excuse me.
00:51:04So really, my favorite sport when I was younger
00:51:07was basketball.
00:51:08Really?
00:51:09Yeah, I loved playing basketball.
00:51:10I'm sure you would agree with that, too.
00:51:10I could shoot, but I slowed down fast.
00:51:12And then baseball was a big part of that, too.
00:51:16And so then, dad got fired at Washington State.
00:51:19We moved down to Southern California.
00:51:21And in the San Fernando Valley, I
00:51:22went to Granada Hills High School.
00:51:24And the coach there, his name was Jack Neumeyer,
00:51:27the offense was wide open.
00:51:29He spread the field with five wides
00:51:31and threw the ball every down.
00:51:32And so really, when you talk about when
00:51:34I first fell in love with football,
00:51:35was my 10th grade year, when I started playing quarterback.
00:51:39I played ninth grade year in Pullman,
00:51:40which was a single wing, handed the ball off.
00:51:43So it wasn't a whole lot of fun.
00:51:45But then when I got down to California,
00:51:46we started throwing the football all over the place.
00:51:48And that's when I started loving football.
00:51:50Started slinging.
00:51:51I read a very funny story that in your ninth grade year,
00:51:54when you showed up for the first day of practice,
00:51:56your dad in the car said, what position are you going to play?
00:51:59And you said, running back.
00:52:00And he was like, you're not as fast as you used to be.
00:52:03Which is an insane thing to say to a 13-year-old.
00:52:06Well, we were in an old Chevy Impala.
00:52:08And we pulled up, and that's exactly what he said.
00:52:11What position are you going out for today?
00:52:12I said, running back.
00:52:13And the car went into park.
00:52:14And 15 minutes later, when I got out of the car,
00:52:16I was a quarterback.
00:52:17But that was one of the comments,
00:52:19was the fact that, hey, listen, you're slowing down
00:52:20a little bit.
00:52:21So you can, I think, I think, I think, you know,
00:52:24you're probably better off trying
00:52:26to play some quarterback.
00:52:27I think it's a better position for you.
00:52:29I mean, it's just, I guess that speaks to your relationship
00:52:33with your dad.
00:52:33The honesty was there that he could be like,
00:52:35you're not that fast anymore.
00:52:37How fast were you at 12?
00:52:38Yeah, I could, you know, when I was younger,
00:52:40I was faster than everybody.
00:52:41But then everybody caught up, right?
00:52:43Especially when you start growing,
00:52:46they start catching up to you.
00:52:47So, you know, and he had a good feel for it.
00:52:48And I respected him so much.
00:52:49So sure enough, I went out for quarterback.
00:52:51And, you know, that's one of those forks in the roads.
00:52:55The thing is, they get fired at Washington State.
00:52:57And he went for the head job because he
00:53:00graduated from Washington State, went to school there,
00:53:02went undergrad.
00:53:03And he was the runner up for the job.
00:53:05And thank God he didn't get that job.
00:53:07Otherwise, I'd probably been a baseball player.
00:53:09Yeah.
00:53:09Because the high school ran the single wing.
00:53:11And so I would have never been exposed
00:53:13to what I got exposed to when we went down to Southern
00:53:15California in football.
00:53:16Wow.
00:53:16Probably a good choice.
00:53:17So when you're playing quarterback,
00:53:19obviously, you've got, you had great wheels.
00:53:21You were still fast, even at 13, 14, 15 years old.
00:53:24I mean, it's true.
00:53:25I was as fast as I needed to be.
00:53:27Yeah.
00:53:27Yes.
00:53:28But I feel like in that era, coaches
00:53:30were more hesitant to have their quarterbacks run around
00:53:32out there.
00:53:33Maybe it's different in high school, where they said, OK,
00:53:35if you see a play, go make a play.
00:53:37Right.
00:53:37Did you ever have a coach, whether it
00:53:39be in high school or in college, that was like, hey, John,
00:53:42stop running the ball so much.
00:53:43You're going to get hurt.
00:53:44No, I think that they said be smart, you know,
00:53:46and the fact that that, because that was part of my game.
00:53:48I like to move around and try to make some plays if I had to.
00:53:52Protection broke down, then I like
00:53:53to get outside and do those type of things.
00:53:55But they always pressed on me.
00:53:57They'd say, hey, listen, get out there
00:53:58and do what you want to do, but just be safe
00:54:00and take care of yourself.
00:54:01Yeah.
00:54:01And back in those days, you could go feet first, right?
00:54:05I never went feet first, because I always felt more wide open
00:54:08to a hit, a late hit or a cheap hit,
00:54:11cheap shot that would knock me out with me just
00:54:14being exposed like that.
00:54:16So I always tried to go down and just use my head
00:54:18and my shoulders and felt more protected.
00:54:20Plus, going down feet first, I always
00:54:22figured you lost like three yards
00:54:23comparing to going head first.
00:54:24It's true.
00:54:25I'd just go for their feet and do it that way.
00:54:28Yeah, I mean, one of the most iconic plays in NFL history
00:54:31is the helicopter in the Super Bowl against the Packers.
00:54:34How many times did you, let me first say,
00:54:37when that play is happening, were you like,
00:54:39this is going to, I'm going to get fucking crushed.
00:54:41There was three Packers coming at you,
00:54:43and you were like, I'm just going head first.
00:54:44You know, the funny story about that play, it was third and six,
00:54:47and we'd run that play all week in practice.
00:54:50And I told Mike Shanahan and Gary Kubiak,
00:54:52who was the offensive coordinator,
00:54:54and I'm like, it was set up for a certain defense.
00:54:57And I really didn't like the play in practice,
00:54:59but we kept running it.
00:54:59And I kept telling Mike, you know,
00:55:00I really don't like that play.
00:55:02And he finally came to me and said, John,
00:55:04against this formation, in this situation,
00:55:07it's 100% we're going to get this coverage.
00:55:10I said, OK, great.
00:55:11You know, and I think it was both corners had to be bumped,
00:55:13safety over the middle, da, da, da.
00:55:14I can't remember exactly how it was set up.
00:55:16But sure enough, I walked to the line of scrimmage,
00:55:18and they're not in that defense.
00:55:20So I know I've got nothing.
00:55:22So I just really kind of dropped back
00:55:23and tried to find a seam, get outside, try to make a play.
00:55:26And I looked for the first down marker,
00:55:27and they kind of stayed back.
00:55:29And I said, all right, I'm going to turn this thing up
00:55:31and see how far I can get.
00:55:32And then I said, all right, well, I
00:55:34think they think I'm going down low.
00:55:36So I put the big old six inch vertical on them
00:55:38and ran right over the top.
00:55:40Do you remember being in the air being like, whoa, this is crazy?
00:55:43I do, because I got discombobulated,
00:55:44because I got spun around.
00:55:46And the one thing I do remember is I looked to our sideline,
00:55:48and our whole sideline was going nuts.
00:55:50And so the adrenaline rush that came from that was,
00:55:52I still get chills when I think about it.
00:55:54Yeah, it was one of the coolest plays ever.
00:55:55Yeah, and you know what's funny?
00:55:56A lot of people think it was for a touchdown, but it's not.
00:55:58It was just for a first down.
00:55:59We ended up scoring on that drive.
00:56:01But obviously, with where that game ended up,
00:56:03it was a pivotal play.
00:56:04You should get residual checks, too,
00:56:07because I feel like the NFL used it in every highlight package
00:56:11for the next 20 years.
00:56:12That would be nice if they had those.
00:56:14Unfortunately, they don't have those yet.
00:56:16Yeah, it was a great game.
00:56:18I remember those two Super Bowls.
00:56:19And one of the key parts of your offensive line,
00:56:21a good friend of ours, Mark Schlereth,
00:56:23comes on the show a lot.
00:56:24He was actually my Little League baseball coach.
00:56:26Oh, really?
00:56:26Yeah, it's because he was in DC, then he went out to Colorado.
00:56:29So you signed this good free agent guard
00:56:32coming out from Washington, Super Bowl champion,
00:56:34comes out there.
00:56:35You're probably excited to have a great player
00:56:37on your offensive line.
00:56:38But was there a small party that was like,
00:56:40why does this guy just piss on himself all the time?
00:56:43This guy just smells so bad.
00:56:44He just really wasn't a center, because I'd
00:56:46had to put my hand underneath him.
00:56:47But yeah, that's probably why he got the name Stink, too,
00:56:51because of the fact that he would do that.
00:56:53But yeah, it was always amazing to me that he would do that.
00:56:57We always stayed away from him.
00:56:58Weirdest segue ever, but we're saying the word stink.
00:57:02I read that you also, the only sport you ever quit
00:57:05was wrestling in eighth grade, because you
00:57:08wrestled against a kid who smelled really bad.
00:57:10He smelled really bad, yeah.
00:57:12So how bad did he smell?
00:57:13It was bad.
00:57:14Because my dad always said, once you start something,
00:57:16you've got to finish it, right?
00:57:17So he'd never let me quit anything.
00:57:18And he said, you know.
00:57:19And he'd try to say, you know, I don't
00:57:21think you ought to do this, but no, dad, I want to do it.
00:57:23Then I'd get in and realize he was right again.
00:57:26But I had to finish it.
00:57:28And he wasn't a big fan of wrestling either.
00:57:30But yeah, I had to practice against him every day.
00:57:32It wasn't like we were in matches against him.
00:57:34It was like I had to wrestle against him every single day
00:57:36so he'd finally love me.
00:57:37And he smelled really bad.
00:57:40To where I was gagging.
00:57:41I'm like, dad, I'm gagging.
00:57:43I can't do this.
00:57:44You've got to let me.
00:57:44And you told your dad that.
00:57:45You're like, listen, it's not that I'm not tough enough for it.
00:57:48It's like, this kid just smells so bad.
00:57:50I can't do it.
00:57:51I can't.
00:57:51I gagged while I went practicing.
00:57:52I can't do it anymore.
00:57:54He said, all right, this is the one time I'm going to let you do it.
00:57:56That's incredible.
00:57:57He could have gained 10 pounds.
00:57:58Been outside his weight class.
00:57:59He don't have to wrestle anymore.
00:58:00We're the only two biggest guys in the class.
00:58:02So that's why I was stuck with him.
00:58:03The other guys were little small guys.
00:58:05And so he couldn't do that.
00:58:06That's incredible.
00:58:07So we're talking about your Super Bowls.
00:58:08The crazy part about your career is, in sports media,
00:58:13there's the whole can't win the big one.
00:58:15You go to three Super Bowls early in your career.
00:58:18And then it's eight year gap till you win two to end your career.
00:58:21Storybook ending.
00:58:22I think when everyone thinks about what they want to do to end their career,
00:58:25it's John Elway.
00:58:26That's what you think of, back-to-back Super Bowls.
00:58:28But in that progression, was there ever a moment where you're like,
00:58:32maybe I'm not going to win the big one?
00:58:34Yeah, I mean, there was a lot of time in there.
00:58:36I think, obviously, we had really good teams in the 80s.
00:58:39You've got to be really, really good to win a championship.
00:58:42And I think I found that difference out when we finally won one in the late 90s,
00:58:46compared to what we were in the 80s.
00:58:47But yeah, there was a time in those eight years.
00:58:50We were kind of changing coaches.
00:58:51Dan Reeves left.
00:58:52And I think Wade Phillips came in and was there for a couple years.
00:58:56And then Mike Shanahan ended up coming back.
00:58:59But there was a dry spell there.
00:59:00We were up 500.
00:59:01We're still making the playoffs.
00:59:02But I didn't have a chance to really compete for a championship.
00:59:05And then when Mike came back in 95, we turned things around.
00:59:10Terrell Davis, we drafted Terrell Davis that year.
00:59:12And Mike was run-based on run with play action off that,
00:59:16and then real good in the pass game.
00:59:17So we had a good year in 95.
00:59:20In the 96, we had a really good team.
00:59:22We had the number one seed wrapped up.
00:59:24We were playing Jacksonville.
00:59:25Jacksonville was coming to Denver.
00:59:26And we thought, that was the year I'm going, we got a chance to win this.
00:59:31And then we ended up getting beat by Jacksonville,
00:59:34upset in the first round.
00:59:35And so I think that was the most devastating loss,
00:59:37other than the Super Bowl losses.
00:59:39And then at that point in time, you start wondering, well,
00:59:41what's it going to take?
00:59:42And I know at that point in time, I was 36 years old.
00:59:46And so I was running out of time.
00:59:47And so whether we're going to ever be able to get back.
00:59:49But fortunately, we came back and kind of used that the next year
00:59:53as incentive.
00:59:54And we went through the hard way, right?
00:59:56Because Kansas City won the division.
00:59:59We went in as wild card, really.
01:00:00So Jacksonville came in the next year.
01:00:03We got another shot at them.
01:00:04And then we had to go to Kansas City and Pittsburgh to get back.
01:00:07And then we're playing the Packers that were defending champs.
01:00:10We're 14-point underdogs.
01:00:12And we're going to that game.
01:00:13And I can remember getting on the plane.
01:00:15We're leaving Pittsburgh, going back to Denver.
01:00:17And I get on the plane going back.
01:00:20And I call my mom.
01:00:21And I say, mom, can you believe we get a chance
01:00:23to go back and be world champions again?
01:00:24And there's a long pause.
01:00:26And she finally says, do we really have to go back to the Super Bowl again?
01:00:29Yeah, because it was not good memories the first three times.
01:00:34So do you think the Jaguars, because I've
01:00:36watched some of the NFL film stuff about those Broncos teams.
01:00:41And it feels like that Jaguars loss was almost a reason
01:00:44why you guys were able to get over the hump the next two years.
01:00:47Because it was a game that you should have won,
01:00:50you guys were way better, and maybe didn't take them as seriously
01:00:52as you should have.
01:00:53And that's like the last piece of a championship team.
01:00:56Yeah.
01:00:56Yeah, there's no question it added a lot.
01:00:58And I think that it was stuck in everybody's craw for the next year.
01:01:01And so there's no question that, plus even going back into the next year.
01:01:05And in 98, when we come back after the Packer game,
01:01:07we knew we were a really good football team.
01:01:10And our attitude was always, if we just go play like we're capable of,
01:01:13we're going to beat everybody.
01:01:15And that's really fun to be on a team like that,
01:01:17especially to have a running game like we had and played really good defense.
01:01:21And so that's what happened in 98.
01:01:23We were really good in 98, 13-0 until we got
01:01:25beat by the Giants in week 14, I think.
01:01:27And so on a late bomb to, I can't remember who it was.
01:01:32But so then we go to Miami, get killed down there, bounce back,
01:01:37and then get to the playoffs.
01:01:38Yeah, it's a storybook ending.
01:01:40So you mentioned the point spread.
01:01:4114 points in the Super Bowl, that's a big, big point spread.
01:01:44It really was.
01:01:45It must have felt like you against the world.
01:01:47Did you guys use that as motivation, like Vegas doesn't believe in us?
01:01:50We did.
01:01:51But you know what, I also think, I think because of the trek
01:01:54we made through the playoffs, having to go to Kansas City
01:01:57and having to go to Pittsburgh, two really tough places to play,
01:01:59I think really hardened us.
01:02:02And we knew that, again, the Packers were really good.
01:02:05But if we go out and play like we're capable of,
01:02:07and Mike did a great job, Gary, with the game plan
01:02:10because it was a mismatch for us, our wide outs against their secondary.
01:02:14They were really good in the secondary.
01:02:16And so Mike went in and said, hey, listen,
01:02:18we got to run the football against these guys to be able to win it.
01:02:20Leroy Butler was their strong safety at the time.
01:02:22And he always wreaked havoc inside as a free safety.
01:02:25He kind of roamed and did a lot of different things
01:02:27and caused a lot of mischief in there.
01:02:29And so we were able to kind of formation him out of that situation
01:02:34and allowed us to run the football and trail out a great game.
01:02:37The offensive line up front was tremendous.
01:02:39And this wore those guys down.
01:02:40They actually put one extra D lineman down before the game.
01:02:43And so we get into the fourth quarter, and we
01:02:46knew we were in pretty good shape when the game was close.
01:02:48Yeah, they had big Gilbert Brown, right?
01:02:49It was like one and a half defensive linemen at that mass.
01:02:52They played like six on the line at that point.
01:02:54But I don't think he could take three steps forward
01:02:56in that fourth quarter.
01:02:57He was so tired.
01:02:57Yeah, probably not.
01:02:58Just wear them down.
01:02:59You were talking about the hostile environments,
01:03:02like going to Kansas City.
01:03:03I just watched a clip.
01:03:04I didn't know that you used to be able to tell the referees
01:03:06to quiet the crowd noise down.
01:03:08Yeah.
01:03:08Like when you were backed up in the end zone at Arrowhead, right?
01:03:11You would tell the refs, hey, they're being too loud.
01:03:13Then the refs would get on the PA and say, you guys need to shut up,
01:03:16or else it's going to be a penalty against the Chiefs.
01:03:18When did that stop?
01:03:19That stopped the next year because it didn't work very good.
01:03:22Yeah, I noticed the crowd got louder.
01:03:23Everybody just get mad about it.
01:03:24And then you got TV worrying about how much time they're
01:03:27taking because they want the game to fit in a three-hour window, right?
01:03:30So I remember standing in Kansas City one time for like three minutes
01:03:33just waiting for them to, you know, and as soon as the referee says,
01:03:35be quiet, they're going.
01:03:36They get louder, right?
01:03:38So that was in, I think, for one year, and then kind of got out of that.
01:03:41Yeah, that was quite a big rule change.
01:03:43Yeah.
01:03:43I can't imagine that.
01:03:44It didn't work, so they went back.
01:03:45So it was always, Kansas City was always a tough, tough place to go.
01:03:48It was always very loud, same as it is now.
01:03:51This might be a tough question, but how mad
01:03:53were you that you had to present the Lombardi trophy to the Chiefs this year?
01:03:57You know, I wasn't mad.
01:03:58The thing is, I really was pulling for Johnny Lynch, who's
01:04:01a good buddy, is a gym with the Niners.
01:04:04And then Kyle, obviously, was running around our practices
01:04:06all the time when he was younger and when Mike was with the Broncos.
01:04:11And so, you know, just the infinity for those guys.
01:04:14And they'd been there before and lost one.
01:04:17And so I was really pulling for them.
01:04:19It was such a tight game.
01:04:20You know, you look at Kansas City, Andy Reid and Patrick.
01:04:23I think, you know, to me, Andy Reid is kind of one of the unsung heroes
01:04:27as far as a head coach and the credit that he gets being a head coach,
01:04:30because he's had a tremendous amount of success everywhere he's been.
01:04:34And I think we see that with Kansas City now, especially with Patrick
01:04:36and what he's done with Patrick.
01:04:37He's really taken advantage of what he does best.
01:04:40Yeah, it was a Raiders fan's worst nightmare.
01:04:42It was in the Raiders stadium.
01:04:44And it was the Chiefs, who they are rivals with, and you were there.
01:04:48It was basically every bad thing that could ever happen to the Raiders.
01:04:50It was just all in one spot.
01:04:52And you just had to watch it all.
01:04:54Yeah, exactly.
01:04:55I mentioned you're a living legend, which you are.
01:04:58I think the craziest part is you are part of two of the most iconic moments
01:05:04drive in football history, so much so that they're just
01:05:08called the play and the drive.
01:05:10So I want to talk about both of them, the play, the band on the field.
01:05:14Have you gotten to a point now where you can be like,
01:05:16that actually was pretty funny?
01:05:18Like, it's crazy.
01:05:19We're talking about the play just to be Stanford.
01:05:21It was actually, people didn't realize it was my last college game.
01:05:24And a lot of people didn't realize I even played in that game.
01:05:26But it was, obviously, at that time, very disappointing.
01:05:31Because we thought we were going to a bowl game.
01:05:34If we'd won that game, we'd have been 6 and 5
01:05:36and had a chance to get to a bowl game.
01:05:37We hadn't been to a bowl game.
01:05:38And it's not, in today's world, where there's so many different bowls,
01:05:41you've got a lot of different options.
01:05:43And so we're all excited, making that comeback.
01:05:46We picked up a 4th and 17, just the drive
01:05:48to get us back to where we kicked the field to go ahead, I think.
01:05:52And then there's eight seconds left on the clock.
01:05:54And then chaos breaks out.
01:05:56But it was funny.
01:05:56So I've got to play something quarterly in Idaho.
01:05:59And so we went out to lunch, and we're at this place
01:06:01called One Shot Charlie's.
01:06:02And I sit down, and there's this older gentleman sitting next to me.
01:06:05And he taps me.
01:06:06He goes, hey, da-da-da.
01:06:07We start talking.
01:06:08He says, we have something in common.
01:06:10I said, we do?
01:06:11He goes, yeah.
01:06:11He goes, I was the umpire for the play.
01:06:15And I looked at him.
01:06:15I said, so it was your fault.
01:06:17You son of a bitch.
01:06:20So it was funny that that, what is it, 45 years later now,
01:06:23and to see the umpire again.
01:06:25It was kind of fun.
01:06:27That was one of those plays that, very disappointing at the time.
01:06:29But like you said, you see it every Thanksgiving.
01:06:32And so now, yeah, there's no question.
01:06:35We've done a lot of different things on it, too.
01:06:37So yeah, you look back on it.
01:06:38And now you just say, I'm kind of glad to be a part of it.
01:06:41It's going to be around forever.
01:06:42Objectively, kind of funny that this actually happened.
01:06:45It's such an insane thing to happen that you can't even
01:06:47believe it, even when you watch a replay,
01:06:49knowing what's going to happen.
01:06:50You're like, wait, there's the tuba player.
01:06:52What's going on?
01:06:53Right.
01:06:53And the funny thing is, for a week,
01:06:55I was hoping that they were going to turn that thing over.
01:06:57We held on for a week, right?
01:06:59Oh, yeah, they're going to come back.
01:07:00And they're going to figure out a way
01:07:01to turn this thing around.
01:07:02But 45 years later, it has not been turned around.
01:07:05It is crazy that they just allowed the marching band
01:07:07to go onto the field.
01:07:09Forget about turning it over a week later.
01:07:11One second later.
01:07:12My big question all the time I've asked,
01:07:14I said, what if the trombone player was on the 10-yard line
01:07:17and the guy that ran over him with the ball had gone down?
01:07:20Yeah.
01:07:21Does he get his trombone player get the tackle?
01:07:22He gets the tackle.
01:07:24Now, do they call that a touchdown?
01:07:25Or what is the rule there?
01:07:27I still, that's a question I've never got answered.
01:07:30Saxophone player forces a fumble.
01:07:33And then you guys get the ball, return it.
01:07:35Maybe.
01:07:35What happens then?
01:07:36There's no way to know in that moment that you're
01:07:38on the sideline.
01:07:39Future John Elway comes down and talks to present John Elway.
01:07:42Don't worry.
01:07:43You're going to look back at this
01:07:44and it'll be an iconic moment in football history in 45 years.
01:07:48You'll be fine.
01:07:48I'm not sure I would have believed you
01:07:49at that point in time.
01:07:50But then you had the drive.
01:07:52Like I said, being part of the play and the drive,
01:07:55I mean, how often, I think this is a stupid question,
01:07:58but I'm always very curious, guys who played in the league
01:08:02and had such incredible success, how often
01:08:04does your mind wander just back to that, to the drive?
01:08:08A lot, because it comes on, and every anniversary
01:08:11it's on there a lot.
01:08:12I still enjoy watching it, and it's kind of funny.
01:08:14That was in my fourth year.
01:08:16In my first year, my rookie year, I struggled a little bit.
01:08:20So I was up and down, and things kept getting better as time.
01:08:22But that was kind of my coming out party
01:08:24when we were able to do that in the situation
01:08:26we were in Cleveland, and get it into overtime,
01:08:28and then eventually win it in overtime.
01:08:30But those are the type of things, like you said,
01:08:32memories, be able to look back.
01:08:33And really, the older you get, the more you
01:08:35appreciate it, because the memories are so great,
01:08:39and I'm proud to be part of it.
01:08:41Yeah, the drive.
01:08:42Wasn't that 98 yards?
01:08:4398 yards, yeah.
01:08:4498 yards, and with what, five minutes left?
01:08:46Five minutes to go, yeah.
01:08:47And so, picked up a couple of fourth downs.
01:08:50And the thing is, that game, Cleveland
01:08:53was a really good football team.
01:08:54They're really good on defense.
01:08:55We hadn't had a lot of success all day on offense,
01:08:58with only scoring 13 points up to that point in time.
01:09:01So to go 98 against them, and with five minutes to go,
01:09:04we started making some plays.
01:09:05And the thing is, about that drive,
01:09:06we just started trying to get some first downs,
01:09:08get some breathing room, right?
01:09:09Take it one bit at a time, and then you could hear,
01:09:12and the stadium was loud, and then you could just hear
01:09:14the stadium getting quieter, quieter, quieter, quieter,
01:09:17and you could feel the momentum switch.
01:09:18And so, then we got it going,
01:09:20and we were able to make those plays,
01:09:21and then really win it in overtime,
01:09:23which, you know, people forget that we still had
01:09:25to go into overtime and win it.
01:09:26It is an all-time moment, listening to a crowd,
01:09:29when a drive like that happens,
01:09:31and you can feel that they have the energy at the start,
01:09:33and then it slowly just goes away,
01:09:35where you, like, even on third down,
01:09:37you can hear them trying to bring it back to that energy,
01:09:39but you know you kind of have, mm.
01:09:41Right, yeah.
01:09:41You know, and that's the thing is,
01:09:42you almost enjoy stadiums getting quieter
01:09:45than you do at home when they get louder, right?
01:09:48You notice it more when you're on the road
01:09:49and it's getting quieter, so yeah.
01:09:51Yeah, there is, that's a good point.
01:09:52There is that very sad third down cheer.
01:09:54You're like, we're trying again.
01:09:55After you've got, like, if you've gotten
01:09:57two fourth down conversions on the same drive,
01:09:58then it's third down again.
01:10:00Then it's just like, okay, we're gonna try.
01:10:02But you know that you've gotten
01:10:04when they got that sad level of volume in the stands.
01:10:06It's hard to get that back.
01:10:09We're gonna get back to John Elway in a second.
01:10:11He's being brought to you by Catalyst Fitness.
01:10:13We might be in trouble.
01:10:14I think Hank might have a chance to dunk.
01:10:16Our friends over at Catalyst heard that Hank needed help,
01:10:19and they came to his rescue.
01:10:20We tried a few weeks ago, it was wild.
01:10:22It was a crazy exercise.

01:10:51They had us do this workout routine.
01:10:53They had us put on the vest, put on all the sensors,
01:10:55and I was sweating my ass off by the end of it.
01:10:58Felt like a good workout.
01:10:59I was sore for two days afterwards.
01:11:01Felt like my muscles were really building something up.
01:11:04It felt like I just got done with a full-body workout.

01:11:38That's K-A-T-A-L-Y-S-T dot com slash PMT to learn more.
01:11:45And now here's John Elway.
01:11:48You were talking about some of the guys
01:11:49in that draft class.
01:11:50Did you have like a ongoing rivalry,
01:11:54whether it was something that you communicated
01:11:57to those other guys or just something
01:11:58that you kept track of in your head
01:11:59where you're always competing against the guys
01:12:01that were drafted in your same class?
01:12:03Yeah, I mean, I think there's no question
01:12:04there's always a competition with us, you know?
01:12:06And I think especially when you look,
01:12:07you know, coming out and Jimmy went to the USFL
01:12:10to start with, Kelly.
01:12:11He was in Houston for a couple years
01:12:13before he went to Buffalo.
01:12:14But Dan was down in Miami and, you know,
01:12:17the big thing is he was the last player picked
01:12:19of those six quarterbacks that year.
01:12:21And so, you know, and then Danny came out
01:12:23his second year and threw for 5,000 yards, right?
01:12:25Went to the Super Bowl.
01:12:26And actually they played it at Stanford Stadium, right?
01:12:28And that year we got beaten the first round.
01:12:31We had the home field that year too, my second year,
01:12:33and got beaten the first round there.
01:12:34So, but I think after that point in time,
01:12:37it was really kind of chasing Danny
01:12:38because Danny was having so much success down in Miami.
01:12:40And then Jim went, you know, when he came back
01:12:42and went up to Buffalo, you know,
01:12:44they opened it up and had that red gun.
01:12:45I think they call it, we're throwing it all over the place.
01:12:47We were a little bit, with Dan,
01:12:49we were a little bit more conservative
01:12:50and, you know, run the ball and throw it when we needed to.
01:12:53But, you know, we were winning football games.
01:12:56You know, and you couldn't, can't argue
01:12:57when you're winning football games.
01:12:58And so, and then able to get to those three
01:13:00out of four years we got to the Super Bowls
01:13:02and unfortunately didn't win them,
01:13:03but we're able to get there.
01:13:04Yeah, so in that draft, obviously the famous,
01:13:07you're going to maybe go play baseball
01:13:09if the Colts, the Colts do take you,
01:13:11but if they decide to keep you,
01:13:13was there ever a moment that you were nervous
01:13:15that like, maybe I'm bluffing?
01:13:17Like, cause you, you love, you love football.
01:13:19And if they just say, hey, we'll,
01:13:21we're willing to burn a pick here.
01:13:23Were you willing to be like, I'm done with football,
01:13:25I'm going to play baseball?
01:13:26Well, my plan was really to go play baseball for a year.
01:13:29Cause I had signed with the Yankees
01:13:31after my sophomore year.
01:13:32During my junior and senior year,
01:13:33I played in minor league baseball
01:13:35up in Oneonta, New York for the Yankees.
01:13:36And so I was in a contract with the Yankees.
01:13:39And so my plan was to go play baseball for a year.
01:13:42Then my name would have gone back
01:13:43in the draft the next year.
01:13:44Got it. Right?
01:13:45So they lose.
01:13:46So the Colts would have lost the rights to me the next year.
01:13:48My name would have gone back into the draft.
01:13:50So that was the worst scenario.
01:13:52But I wanted to play football.
01:13:53Right.
01:13:54And, you know, and so
01:13:55I thought there was going to be a trade done
01:13:57before the draft.
01:13:58And, you know, I really thought I was going to the Raiders.
01:14:00Really?
01:14:01That night before, it was through Chicago.
01:14:04And so, and then I think with,
01:14:07and Al Davis at the time was,
01:14:09I think soon it was in a lawsuit with, with the NFL.
01:14:11Yeah. Yeah.
01:14:12And him and Pete Rozelle didn't get along very well.
01:14:14So rumor has it that Pete kind of got involved,
01:14:17got to, got a hold of Finks in, in Chicago
01:14:20and said, you can't let this go through.
01:14:22That trade fell through.
01:14:23And so then the Colts kind of got stuck
01:14:25and ended up taking me.
01:14:26And so.
01:14:27Yeah. When they said your name,
01:14:28did you know that you were like,
01:14:30they were already back channeling that you're,
01:14:31you're not going to be, or were you like, shit,
01:14:33they did take me.
01:14:34No, we knew, I knew it by then, right?
01:14:36It wasn't back then when we got drafted.
01:14:37We'd have, we'd go, we were done.
01:14:39We rented a suite with all the guys
01:14:40that were going to get drafted and watch the draft.
01:14:42And, you know, kind of all got together and did it that way.
01:14:44And so I was in constant contact,
01:14:46contact with my agent all the time.
01:14:47And so I knew once we got close to the draft
01:14:50that the Colts were going to take me.
01:14:52So.
01:14:52Yeah. And you turned out to be correct.
01:14:53Cause they moved, the Colts moved, right?
01:14:55They moved the next year.
01:14:56Yeah.
01:14:56So you were, you were kind of vindicated.
01:14:58That's what I kept trying to say.
01:14:59It's like nothing against Baltimore.
01:15:01I had never been to Baltimore.
01:15:02It really was nothing against Baltimore.
01:15:03But it was the franchise was kind of in turmoil.
01:15:04It was the franchise and where they were.
01:15:06And, you know, they'd drafted Schliester
01:15:08a couple of years before.
01:15:10And so it was just, you know,
01:15:12didn't feel like it was a group, you know,
01:15:13and having the, the, the, the leverage with baseball,
01:15:17you know, and really my dad was one that was,
01:15:19that led this whole charge.
01:15:20And he was smart enough to do it at 22.
01:15:22I was not the one that was going to lead that charge,
01:15:24but he wanted to get me in a situation
01:15:26that was going to allow me, you know,
01:15:28to be the best player that I could be
01:15:29with a good organization that I thought I had a chance with.
01:15:31And then years later you get,
01:15:32you get Peyton Manning from the Colts.
01:15:34Yeah.
01:15:35You're like, they must hate you in the NFL.
01:15:37Yeah. Yeah.
01:15:38Well, fortunately that, yeah, they, they let him go.
01:15:41So they were more mad at the organization
01:15:42that allowed us to get him.
01:15:43Yeah.
01:15:44Was there ever any thought of playing both?
01:15:46No, no, I didn't.
01:15:47You know, I, I spent so much time at, you know, at football
01:15:51and I was, I was a better football player
01:15:52than I was a baseball player just because of the number,
01:15:54you know, the amount of time I spent at it.
01:15:57You know, I always went to college roommates.
01:16:00Both of them had really good major league careers, you know?
01:16:02So I think I could have had a good major league career,
01:16:04but I don't know that it would have been at the level
01:16:06that I had with when playing football.
01:16:08Yeah. Because it didn't, the story goes
01:16:09that George Steinbrenner said that he would,
01:16:11you were going to be the starting right fielder by like 85.
01:16:14Right. Yeah.
01:16:15And that's pretty cool.
01:16:16That's really cool.
01:16:17Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
01:16:18So, but like I said, I really wanted to play football.
01:16:21I love playing the quarterback position
01:16:22and felt I was a better quarterback
01:16:25than I was an outfielder.
01:16:26And so,
01:16:28Well, thank you for playing football
01:16:29because it wouldn't, it just wouldn't have hit the same
01:16:30John Elway baseball player, like, you know,
01:16:32career, like 280 hitter, which would have been great,
01:16:34but like, no, John Elway's a football player.
01:16:37Yeah. Right.
01:16:38Right.
01:16:39So, but yeah, it worked out great.
01:16:40And thank God they traded me to Denver and Denver,
01:16:43Denver was really never on the list of, you know,
01:16:45we were talking to different teams before the draft,
01:16:46where I might go, San Diego was in it, but,
01:16:49cause they had three first,
01:16:50but they were really trying to get Fouts signed.
01:16:53Fouts was a free agent at that time.
01:16:55And so they didn't have free agency,
01:16:57but not under contract.
01:16:58And so they kind of used that leverage to get Dan signed.
01:17:01So that kind of ended San Diego's, you know,
01:17:03Seattle was a possibility, New England.
01:17:06So, and then end up Denver was kind of, we asked Denver,
01:17:09they said, no, we're not interested early.
01:17:11And then they came back late.
01:17:12So it was,
01:17:12And it all worked out.
01:17:13It worked out.
01:17:15As an executive,
01:17:16we noticed that you had a type in quarterbacks.
01:17:18What's the shortest a quarterback can be in your opinion?
01:17:22Because you really do like them tall.
01:17:24Yeah.
01:17:24Well, I, yeah, I went tall.
01:17:26Yeah, you went tall.
01:17:27We would see a tall guy.
01:17:28I'd be like, that's John Elway's next quarterback.
01:17:30Did you see big cat?
01:17:31He's like six, three.
01:17:31And you're like, I can work with this guy.
01:17:33Yeah, there you go.
01:17:34Not bad, right?
01:17:35Yeah, you know it.
01:17:36But yeah, I think, you know,
01:17:37but I think there's a limit that's too tall too.
01:17:38Right?
01:17:39Well, not really.
01:17:40You gave Rock Osweiler a contract.
01:17:42That's just not true.
01:17:43Yeah, that's true.
01:17:45You went to the tallest.
01:17:46And in 2015, when we won Super Bowl 50,
01:17:48Rock came in and played seven games for us
01:17:49and played really well.
01:17:50That's true.
01:17:51So you were vindicated there.
01:17:53Yeah.
01:17:54But I don't think, yeah,
01:17:55especially in today's game, you know,
01:17:57with especially with the way they're protecting
01:17:59the quarterbacks and those types of things,
01:18:00I don't think you have to be nearly as tall
01:18:01as you used to have to be.
01:18:03And, you know, I believe that, you know,
01:18:05as a quarterback,
01:18:06it's great if you have the ability to move around
01:18:09and extend plays and make plays.
01:18:11That's huge to be able to get out and run around the pocket.
01:18:13But I still believe that,
01:18:14and I learned this is that to win Super Bowls,
01:18:17you have to have a quarterback
01:18:18that can win it from the pocket.
01:18:20Yeah.
01:18:20You got to be able to have the guys
01:18:21that can win it from the pocket
01:18:22because they're too good.
01:18:23You look at one Super Bowl that Kansas City lost to Tampa.
01:18:28Tampa put pressure on him with four guys, right?
01:18:30And they had seven back there and got him running early.
01:18:32And so, and then that's when Tampa was able to beat him.
01:18:35So I think that, you know,
01:18:36when you think about quarterbacks,
01:18:37I still believe you got to win it from the pocket.
01:18:39Yeah.
01:18:40Is it hard to evaluate the quarterback position
01:18:42because you were so good at playing the position?
01:18:44Do you think that comes into it all?
01:18:45No, I, you know,
01:18:46I think the hardest thing about figuring out
01:18:48who's going to make and who's not is what's here, right?
01:18:51And so, I mean, I think if you look at all these,
01:18:54these quarterbacks always go high in the draft,
01:18:56you know, they're going to bad teams, number one.
01:18:59And number two is they've never really
01:19:02had any criticism their whole life, right?
01:19:04Cause they've been, they were good the whole time.
01:19:05They were good in high school.
01:19:06They were good in college.
01:19:07And so they'd never faced the criticism.
01:19:10And so, you know, to be able to figure out
01:19:12and the right combination
01:19:13with an offensive quarter head coach is key,
01:19:17but to be able to get those kids in situations
01:19:19because they're going to go through tough times.
01:19:21There is a lot of growing pains coming from college football.
01:19:24I don't care if you play at Alabama or anywhere,
01:19:26you get to the NFL, it's a big jump.
01:19:29You know, in college,
01:19:30you may play against one or two guys on the other side
01:19:33that's going to, that'll be, that'll play in the NFL.
01:19:35Whereas once you get in the NFL, they're all,
01:19:37they're all good players.
01:19:39But I think the key thing is trying to figure out
01:19:41how they're going to handle the negative criticism
01:19:43and the negativity that comes along with young quarterbacks,
01:19:46what they have to go through
01:19:47because they've got those growing pains.
01:19:48And so that's the thing that you can't, you can't read.
01:19:52And also trying to figure out
01:19:54getting them in the right offense
01:19:55that allows them to be successful, right?
01:19:57And there's always such a rush
01:19:58to get those young guys in there
01:19:59because the fans want them in there
01:20:01and see how they're going to do.
01:20:03And so, you know, to be able to have a coach,
01:20:05a head coach or, and, or an offensive coordinator
01:20:09that can really protect that kid
01:20:10and really let him grow for the first couple of years,
01:20:12two or three years to where he sees everything
01:20:15and he's ready to go.
01:20:16Yes, situation is everything.
01:20:18I have, so this is a part of the show we do
01:20:20where it's, I love to gamble.
01:20:23I bring up a bad memory about gambling
01:20:25and ask our guests to question about it.
01:20:29Did you actually watch Pax and Lynch's bowl game?
01:20:33I did, I did.
01:20:34Okay, that makes no sense then.
01:20:36I lost a lot of money on Memphis in that game.
01:20:39And I, that was all my scouting of Pax and Lynch.
01:20:42Yeah, you missed some, but.
01:20:43Yeah, you know, we thought, you know,
01:20:44the thing is a lot of times when you go through that,
01:20:46if the coach likes them, right?
01:20:48And it's a good fit,
01:20:49Gary Kubiak was the head coach at that time.
01:20:51And, you know, he's athletic and can move around.
01:20:53Again, you never know what's in here.
01:20:55We thought he would be a really good fit in Gary's offense.
01:20:58And then, you know,
01:20:59unfortunately Gary retired after that year.
01:21:01And so, and then trying to get that mix back.
01:21:03And, you know, unfortunately that was one of those picks
01:21:06that didn't work out.
01:21:07Yeah, you may, maybe, you know,
01:21:08I know you're not the GM anymore of the Broncos,
01:21:12but you're still involved.
01:21:13Maybe just having me come by for like a pre-draft meeting
01:21:16and you can say a name and be like, nope,
01:21:17he actually, he played a terrible game against, you know,
01:21:21USC, like don't do it.
01:21:23Gamblers know.
01:21:23Yeah, right.
01:21:24Listen, I'm not, I'm not a smart person,
01:21:27but I just, I lost a lot of money on that game.
01:21:30And I was like, this guy.
01:21:30I can, yeah, that can tilt you.
01:21:32Yeah, right, right.
01:21:33I was just, took it with me.
01:21:35If you lose a bet on somebody,
01:21:36you remember all the bad things they did.
01:21:38And you can give a great like downside to that player.
01:21:40You'll never like him again either.
01:21:41You know everything about him, right?
01:21:43Done, I'm done, I'm done with this guy.
01:21:44Probably a really nice guy.
01:21:46Really wish he had played better against Auburn
01:21:48in that bowl game, sorry.
01:21:50One guy we got to get on the show is Mike Shanahan.
01:21:52Mike Shanahan seems like a football guy through and through.
01:21:55You got to spend a lot of time with him.
01:21:57We've kind of danced around this topic for years.
01:21:59We've had some players that have played for him
01:22:01that have told us about the parties that he used to throw
01:22:03at his house every year.
01:22:05And we heard that he has a tanning bed in his house,
01:22:07in his home.
01:22:08Did you ever see his tanning bed?
01:22:09I never saw the tanning bed,
01:22:10but we always had those parties when we broke camp.
01:22:12And so it was always a real good party
01:22:15before we went into the year.
01:22:16But I never saw the tanning booth.
01:22:18It was funny, he never wore a hat.
01:22:19So I think all the color I think was natural.
01:22:21Yeah, okay, so we've heard how fun those parties were.
01:22:24What was he like as a coach?
01:22:25Was he a players coach?
01:22:26He was, he was tough.
01:22:28You know, and I think that that's what made him great.
01:22:30Number one, he was a very hard worker like most head coaches.
01:22:33But what his knowledge of the offense,
01:22:36of the offensive game was tremendous
01:22:38and where it was back then, the West Coast offense.
01:22:40Because when he left Denver, he went to San Francisco,
01:22:43learned the West Coast.
01:22:43And then when he came back to Denver with Alex Gibbs,
01:22:46who was our offensive line coach,
01:22:48they put the zone running game in with the West Coast.
01:22:51And then the combination.
01:22:52And then Mike just kind of grew it from there.
01:22:54And then I think if you look even now
01:22:56what Kyle has done with the same base offense
01:22:58and what he's done and expanded with it,
01:23:01they just continue to take it to new heights.
01:23:03But Mike was, you know, he was a players coach,
01:23:06but he was tough.
01:23:07And the expectations, it was never enough.
01:23:09He never let us exhale.
01:23:11It was always, we got to play better the next week.
01:23:13But, you know, players loved him
01:23:15and he's the guy that wanted to win football games.
01:23:17And so he was the best coach I ever played for.
01:23:20Because I had a great rapport with him also,
01:23:21but loved what he did offensively.
01:23:23But also the expectations that he had of us
01:23:25made us have the expectations of us too.
01:23:28And therefore that's, I think, why we're able to play it
01:23:31at that level.
01:23:32Yeah.
01:23:33The running game in the Shanahan offense
01:23:34is it's beautiful to watch.
01:23:35It's beautiful.
01:23:36It's one thing where, you know,
01:23:37you can go three yards in a cloud of dust
01:23:39and to a certain extent, you know,
01:23:40that can win you some football games.
01:23:42But when you watch the 49ers or the Broncos back in the day
01:23:45or now the Dolphins, when they're running the football,
01:23:48you're like, this is a work of art.
01:23:49It really is.
01:23:50And you know when the key thing is,
01:23:51and what people don't realize,
01:23:52is anytime you run the ball that well,
01:23:53you have receivers that can block.
01:23:55And that's the key thing.
01:23:56Because, you know, those right receivers
01:23:58got to get down in there and dig out those strong safeties
01:24:00and those type things.
01:24:01And so when I was there my last couple of years,
01:24:04Eddie McCaffey and Rod Smith, you know,
01:24:07they were great receivers,
01:24:08but also tough guys to get in there and dig out those DBs.
01:24:11And so that's what makes that running game so good.
01:24:13And the commitment by those wide receivers
01:24:16to blocking the running game.
01:24:16Yeah.
01:24:17Is there a guy that you played with
01:24:19that you think could excel in today's NFL?
01:24:21Like a guy that would be an absolute game breaker?
01:24:24I have one in mind, but curious to hear from you.
01:24:26That excelled in today's game?
01:24:27I mean, Gary Zimmerman, the left tackle,
01:24:29I think could have played at any time.
01:24:31You know, he was just that physically talented.
01:24:33He wasn't a huge guy.
01:24:34He's probably 285, 290, but wasn't huge,
01:24:36but just knew how to play the game.
01:24:38And was a guy that I trusted on the backside.
01:24:40And so that's one guy that would fit.
01:24:42I mean, Terrell, you know, would still fit in.
01:24:45And I was trying to think if there's any, you know,
01:24:47defensively, you know, our safeties,
01:24:50Dennis Smith and Atwater, they probably wouldn't fit in
01:24:52because they'd probably be suspended every other game
01:24:54because they didn't blow guys up, right?
01:24:57But yeah, I think we have several guys still playing.
01:25:01I mean, Shannon Sharpe was Shannon for sure.
01:25:02That was the one that I was thinking of.
01:25:04Like, especially where the tight ends come.
01:25:06Yeah.
01:25:06And the ability that he had to run after the catch,
01:25:08how strong he was, how big he was.
01:25:10Yeah.
01:25:11That's a dude, I've seen him recently.
01:25:12He's a massive man.
01:25:13He's still that big.
01:25:14He probably still could play.
01:25:15He almost looks bigger now than he was when he played,
01:25:17but he keeps working.
01:25:18But, and the other thing is,
01:25:19Shannon was only probably 225 pounds,
01:25:22but he was so strong,
01:25:24especially in the zone game on outside zone,
01:25:26he had to control that outside linebacker
01:25:28and he was able to do that.
01:25:29So to have a tight end that can catch and run routes
01:25:32and catch the ball like he could, but also block.
01:25:34Cause you don't see a lot of that in the NFL today.
01:25:36Either they're either a pass catcher or they're a blocker.
01:25:39Yeah.
01:25:40And you don't have a combination of guys that can run,
01:25:42you know, block as well as, you know,
01:25:44have the great speed and stretch the field for you too.
01:25:46Yeah.
01:25:48Weird question.
01:25:49Tebow mania.
01:25:50Was there ever a moment where you're like,
01:25:52maybe God is a Broncos fan?
01:25:54There was no doubt.
01:25:55I thought it was.
01:25:57Cause like once it kept on going,
01:25:59we're like, what is going on here?
01:26:00My gut was, you know,
01:26:01eventually God's got to take care of somebody else too.
01:26:04The way that, you know,
01:26:06my first year when he came in as a starter
01:26:08and was in there the last, I don't know, 13 games.
01:26:11I mean, there were some things that happened that were just,
01:26:13I mean, truly unbelievable.
01:26:14And so, you know,
01:26:15we're playing Chicago on a Monday night.
01:26:17He runs out of bounds.
01:26:19Stays in bound, the game's over.
01:26:20Get him out of bounds.
01:26:21And then all of a sudden Tim, you know,
01:26:22comes back and makes that big comeback
01:26:25and so it was amazing.
01:26:26It was, you know,
01:26:27I think we,
01:26:28we beat Kansas City and Kansas City with eight yards passing
01:26:31or something.
01:26:31Yeah.
01:26:32It was crazy.
01:26:33And then obviously the Steelers, you know,
01:26:35playoff game and the slant.
01:26:36Yeah.
01:26:37The slant in overtime for his playoff overtime.
01:26:39It was crazy.
01:26:40But you know,
01:26:41and he's a great kid.
01:26:42I mean, it really is.
01:26:43He's everything that people think he is.
01:26:44And, you know,
01:26:46just a tremendous, you know,
01:26:49competitor.
01:26:50Now I think that the only,
01:26:51I think there's only one guy that could have got me
01:26:54out of Tebow mania.
01:26:55And that was Peyton Manning.
01:26:56Yeah.
01:26:58So that was the only guy that I think that people would
01:27:00accept and say, okay, well,
01:27:02Peyton's probably a little bit better than Timmy.
01:27:04And so we can go ahead and go that direction.
01:27:06And so that's why it was even more important to get,
01:27:08to get Peyton.
01:27:09Was there any part of your conversations with Peyton where
01:27:11he showed that like,
01:27:12he was like,
01:27:13I don't really want to,
01:27:14I'm worried about coming to Denver because this is John
01:27:16Elway's city.
01:27:17Cause it is,
01:27:18you're, you're bigger than life there.
01:27:19And you're,
01:27:20you are kind of like when you think of Broncos,
01:27:21it's John Elway.
01:27:22Yeah. But I,
01:27:23I don't think Peyton had a problem with that.
01:27:24You know, I,
01:27:25I didn't think so.
01:27:26I think that,
01:27:26you know, Peyton was,
01:27:27you know,
01:27:28he's obviously,
01:27:29and I,
01:27:30we all know how studious he is and the way he runs things
01:27:31that he was going to pick the best place for him,
01:27:34right.
01:27:35That,
01:27:36where he felt like,
01:27:37you know,
01:27:37he was going to be able to run his stuff and be the offense
01:27:39molded to what he wanted to do.
01:27:40And also getting them a situation that was like,
01:27:42like Indianapolis that,
01:27:43you know,
01:27:44it was not a,
01:27:45you know,
01:27:46major market,
01:27:46but Denver's and India's about the same size.
01:27:48And so,
01:27:49you know,
01:27:49I thought it was just a good fit.
01:27:50John Fox was the head coach.
01:27:51Like John,
01:27:52John was really good guy and a good recruiter too.
01:27:54So,
01:27:55you know,
01:27:56and obviously it worked out very well for Peyton.
01:27:57Yeah.
01:27:58Yeah.
01:27:59I'd say so.
01:28:00That,
01:28:01that first Superbowl was tough too.
01:28:01Speaking of gamblers.
01:28:02Oh yeah.
01:28:03Yeah.
01:28:04I had,
01:28:05I had the Seahawks or excuse me,
01:28:06I had the Broncos in that one.
01:28:06Yeah.
01:28:07And then it felt like after the first snap,
01:28:08it just wasn't going to go your way.
01:28:09Oh yeah.
01:28:10No,
01:28:11that momentum switched fast,
01:28:11like on the first play.
01:28:12And so,
01:28:13and I,
01:28:14I bet a lot on the Broncos in that.
01:28:15Yeah.
01:28:16And I had a Superbowl party.
01:28:16Miller got hurt.
01:28:17So he was out and then,
01:28:18you know,
01:28:19Seattle was pretty good.
01:28:20And then,
01:28:21yeah,
01:28:21we just couldn't get things going.
01:28:22Yeah.
01:28:23I kicked everyone out of my house in the third quarter.
01:28:24Cause I lost so much money on you guys.
01:28:25I know.
01:28:26Unfortunately,
01:28:26I was up in the box.
01:28:27I had to stay there.
01:28:28I would have been at your house.
01:28:29Yeah.
01:28:30Right.
01:28:31Get out of here.
01:28:31Yeah.
01:28:32It's funny.
01:28:33You talk about Tebow mania.
01:28:34I remember distinctly,
01:28:35I forget which game it was,
01:28:36but right after it was over,
01:28:36the,
01:28:37the camera showed you and you were just shaking your head.
01:28:39Like I,
01:28:40I don't know.
01:28:41I don't know how this happened,
01:28:42but I guess I'm just going to roll with it.
01:28:44Yeah.
01:28:45We had a game down in Miami.
01:28:46We had like 38 yards,
01:28:48the whole game.
01:28:48We're down 14,
01:28:49nothing with seven minutes to go in a game.
01:28:50We ended up getting an overtime and win the game.
01:28:52Yeah.
01:28:53That might've been it.
01:28:54Yeah.
01:28:55I was just like,
01:28:56I don't know.
01:28:57Let's just roll with it.
01:28:57Yeah.
01:28:58I was leaning into it.
01:28:59No idea.
01:29:00I am a little bit upset with you because I bought a Nerf
01:29:03Vortex football when I was like 11 years old.
01:29:05And I thought that I was going to be able to throw it like
01:29:07a hundred yards,
01:29:08because I think it said on it,
01:29:09like John Elway through this,
01:29:10how long did you throw?
01:29:11How far did you throw the Vortex?
01:29:13Shoot.
01:29:14I think it's 120 yards.
01:29:15It's like,
01:29:16it flew pretty good with the tail and the noise.
01:29:17Did you get the one with the noise?
01:29:18Oh yeah.
01:29:19I got the one with the noise.
01:29:20My parents hated it.
01:29:20Oh yeah.
01:29:21Yeah.
01:29:22You take that to the beach,
01:29:23everybody around you hates that.
01:29:24Oh yeah.
01:29:25That family.
01:29:25Yeah.
01:29:26Exactly.
01:29:27Yeah.
01:29:28But no,
01:29:29that thing sailed pretty good.
01:29:30Yeah.
01:29:30How far could you throw an actual football?
01:29:31I think the farthest I threw one in a game was,
01:29:32I think probably 72 yards.
01:29:35I think I could get it 85,
01:29:3680 to 85 when I was at my height.
01:29:39And I mean,
01:29:40you had the famous in college,
01:29:41the Elway cross.
01:29:42Yeah.
01:29:43How did you break your receiver's fingers so much
01:29:45that they then,
01:29:46you could see the cross on their pad,
01:29:48on their jersey.
01:29:49Well,
01:29:49it was really when they didn't have pads on it.
01:29:51It got,
01:29:52and if they let it get to their chest,
01:29:53sometimes the,
01:29:54the,
01:29:55you know,
01:29:55the cross on the end of the ball would get to the skin.
01:29:57And so I think it happened a couple of times.
01:29:59So that would.
01:30:00Would you feel bad that you were just breaking
01:30:01your receiver's fingers?
01:30:02Yes,
01:30:03I did.
01:30:04Especially,
01:30:04and I felt bad every time the ball didn't spiral.
01:30:05Cause I knew if the ball didn't spiral,
01:30:06it was going to be tough for them to catch it.
01:30:09And so it was like,
01:30:09you know,
01:30:10that's when things,
01:30:11when fingers usually got,
01:30:12you know,
01:30:13sprained or broken,
01:30:14when the ball didn't spiral.
01:30:14So,
01:30:15as long as the ball spiraled,
01:30:16I felt a lot better about it.
01:30:17Yeah.
01:30:18But that is a rocket arm.
01:30:19If you're like,
01:30:20yeah,
01:30:20my receivers just keep breaking their fingers.
01:30:21Cause I throw it so goddamn hard.
01:30:23Yeah.
01:30:24Well,
01:30:25I,
01:30:25you know,
01:30:26I always felt the quicker I get it to them,
01:30:27then the quicker they can get their head up,
01:30:28feel and,
01:30:29and do something with it after the ball.
01:30:30So yeah.
01:30:30After the,
01:30:31after the catch.
01:30:32Yeah.
01:30:33Well,
01:30:34this has been awesome.
01:30:35I have one last question.
01:30:35A rollback question.

01:30:42RHOBACK.com.
01:30:43Promo code take.
01:30:44It's not a question.
01:30:45I just want to read a quote that I read of yours.
01:30:45That is maybe the most bad-ass quote ever.
01:30:48You said,
01:30:49I've always thought I was going to die with a shovel in case
01:30:51I woke up,
01:30:52I could dig my way out.
01:30:53Yeah.
01:30:54I want to be buried with a shovel.
01:30:55I want to,
01:30:56I've always said that.
01:30:57I want to be buried with a shovel because I don't want to
01:30:59give up either.
01:31:00I don't know.
01:31:00If I do wake up,
01:31:01I want to have a way to get out of there.
01:31:03So I do.
01:31:05I mean like,
01:31:05have you put this into your will?
01:31:07Like,
01:31:08all my kids,
01:31:09everybody knows.
01:31:10It's to make sure that shovel's in there.
01:31:11Okay.
01:31:12All right.
01:31:13So,
01:31:13so like,
01:31:14I'm not getting cremated at all.
01:31:15I'm not,
01:31:16I'm against that.
01:31:17Give you a chance.
01:31:18Give you a fighting chance.
01:31:19Absolutely.
01:31:19Absolutely.
01:31:20So awesome.
01:31:21You're like,
01:31:22John Elway,
01:31:23hopefully you live for many,
01:31:24many more years,
01:31:25but the day that comes,
01:31:27we're just going to have to wait a couple more days after
01:31:29that and be like,
01:31:29anyone check on the,
01:31:30yeah,
01:31:31on the plot?
01:31:32Is there dirt?
01:31:34Is there any grass over there?
01:31:36You should train.
01:31:37You should actually train for it.
01:31:38You're right.
01:31:39I am now.
01:31:40I'm going to make sure I'm in shape when I die.
01:31:41Yeah.
01:31:42No,
01:31:43it's a good idea to just like,
01:31:44you know,
01:31:45get some,
01:31:46get some shovel work.
01:31:47And I think we could all use that.
01:31:48You never know.
01:31:48Absolutely.
01:31:49You never know.
01:31:50You never know.
01:31:51Success is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
01:31:54That's right.
01:31:54Right.
01:31:55So when I get the opportunity to die,
01:31:56I want to be prepared to make my way out.
01:31:57There you go.
01:31:58I mean,
01:31:59it's great on,
01:32:00you know,
01:32:01like you're,
01:32:02you're just never out of a game.
01:32:02Never.
01:32:03Never,
01:32:04never,
01:32:05never.
01:32:06Yeah.
01:32:07I can't ever quit.
01:32:07Yeah.
01:32:08Well,
01:32:09this has been awesome.
01:32:10Like I said,
01:32:11we were,
01:32:12it's such a thrill to have you on.
01:32:12We appreciate it so much.
01:32:13How are you,
01:32:14how are you feeling about the golf game?
01:32:15Not bad.
01:32:16You know,
01:32:17you're a really good golfer.
01:32:18I play a lot now.
01:32:19So it's,
01:32:20I should,
01:32:21you know,
01:32:21I should be,
01:32:22cause I play a lot,
01:32:23but you know,
01:32:24it's,
01:32:25you get here and,
01:32:26you know,
01:32:26you're not used to playing in these situations,
01:32:27competitive golf like this,
01:32:28you know,
01:32:29the good thing is it's a double bogey max.
01:32:30So that,
01:32:31that helps,
01:32:31but you know,
01:32:32you always,
01:32:33no matter what.
01:32:34I've learned as much as I ever did.
01:32:35And so to be able to come out here and do it on a golf
01:32:37course is,
01:32:38you know,
01:32:39it's tremendous.
01:32:40And so try to go out there and I think you're Jack Nicholas
01:32:41and say,
01:32:42you know,
01:32:43okay,
01:32:44you're a John Elway.
01:32:44You're going to miss some shots.
01:32:45So don't,
01:32:46don't worry about that.
01:32:47Try to make up for them.
01:32:48So try to make some birdies and see what happens.
01:32:49Is there one guy in the field that you're very much looking
01:32:50forward to beating?
01:32:51Like if we're doing a,
01:32:52a head to head match and I know you're not going to be paired,
01:32:55necessarily paired with this guy,
01:32:56but is there one guy that you want to make sure that you
01:32:58beat?
01:32:59Uh,
01:33:00you know,
01:33:01I,
01:33:02I want to be,
01:33:03I want to be in the top 10.
01:33:04And then I'd like to finish first of the oldest guys.
01:33:06Right?
01:33:07So Jack Wagner's a little bit older and he's been here every
01:33:09year.
01:33:10So,
01:33:11uh,
01:33:12you know,
01:33:13try to stay ahead of those guys.
01:33:13And,
01:33:14and,
01:33:15but you know,
01:33:16it's fun.
01:33:17Cause I'm looking forward to Friday.
01:33:18I get to play with Josh Allen,
01:33:18who I played with last year and Trevor Lawrence.
01:33:19Yeah.
01:33:20So get to play with those two and get caught up with those
01:33:21two.
01:33:22So I'm looking forward to,
01:33:23and you know,
01:33:23and there's so many great guys out here,
01:33:24great celebrities.
01:33:25It's fun to,
01:33:26you know,
01:33:27guys that we see on TV and the young guys that are playing
01:33:29now,
01:33:29I get a chance to meet them.
01:33:30So it's,
01:33:31it's a thrill for us old guys to be here.
01:33:32How did you not get Josh Allen?
01:33:33I feel like he is exactly your type.
01:33:35I know he is.
01:33:36And the way I played with him and he says,
01:33:38yeah.
01:33:39And John Pat,
01:33:40I was going,
01:33:40I'm wondering how long is it going to take him to realize
01:33:42that I passed on him and took Bradley and Chubb instead.
01:33:46Yeah.
01:33:46And it took me,
01:33:47it took him two and a half holes to bring it up.
01:33:49Cause,
01:33:50and I loved him.
01:33:51Right.
01:33:52Yeah.
01:33:53It just,
01:33:54uh,
01:33:54you know,
01:33:55didn't work out.
01:33:56He was my type.
01:33:57And you're right.
01:33:58I think of my GM days was not taking Josh.
01:34:01You didn't watch the Pax and Lynch's bowl.
01:34:03That too.
01:34:03Yeah.
01:34:04And I didn't get a chance to talk to you.
01:34:06Yeah,
01:34:07exactly.
01:34:08You should have talked to me.
01:34:09All right.
01:34:09Well,
01:34:10thanks so much,
01:34:11John.
01:34:12We appreciate it.
01:34:13You got to do that.

01:35:01messy.
01:35:02Pepsi is an essential part of the most undeniably delicious
01:35:04food moments.
01:35:05Let's face it.
01:35:06Pepsi just makes every bite better.
01:35:08The refreshing pop of sweet,
01:35:10fizzy Pepsi bubbles makes even the best food taste even
01:35:13better.
01:35:14I love,
01:35:15love,
01:35:15love the wild cherry Pepsi.
01:35:17It is so good.
01:35:18So if you're eating anything,
01:35:20cheeseburgers,
01:35:21pizza,
01:35:22sandwiches,
01:35:22wings,
01:35:23hot dogs,
01:35:24Pepsi is what you want to go with.
01:35:26Grab a Pepsi zero sugar for your next meal is every
01:35:28crave worthy bite is better with Pepsi.
01:35:31Thank you to Pepsi.
01:35:33We are going to do the Mount Rushmore of afterschool
01:35:38snacks.
01:35:39I think this might get contentious.
01:35:41I also think PFT,
01:35:42we might age ourself out a little.
01:35:44Yeah,
01:35:45that's okay.
01:35:46Both those things have crossed my mind.
01:35:47That's,
01:35:48that's totally fine.
01:35:49Yes.
01:35:49I'm excited for this.
01:35:51And Henry has the first pick.
01:35:54I believe I do not necessarily a draft.
01:35:56You want the first pick.
01:35:58It is a deep draft.
01:35:59It is deep,
01:36:00but yeah,
01:36:01you're right.
01:36:02This might be a good spot to have a third or fourth,
01:36:04but I'm ready Hank for whatever you want.
01:36:10You won't have anything to say about the dartboard bullseye
01:36:13on Friday.
01:36:14It was just bullseye.
01:36:15Okay.
01:36:15All right.
01:36:16All right.
01:36:17Ready?
01:36:18It should have been dartboard.
01:36:19You ready?
01:36:20That was a mistake.
01:36:21Are you ready?
01:36:21I'm ready.
01:36:22All right.
01:36:23Henry,
01:36:24one,
01:36:25one pick of afterschool snacks.
01:36:27I had to buy Pepsi.
01:36:28I had to go with something I'm passionate about.
01:36:29Something I love more than anything.
01:36:31The greatest combination in the world,
01:36:32peanut butter,
01:36:33chocolate.
01:36:34I'm going to go with nutty bars.
01:36:36Good one.
01:36:37Love them.
01:36:38Love them.
01:36:39Yeah.
01:36:40You know,
01:36:41you know that you'll get my vote on that.
01:36:42It's a solid pick.
01:36:43Yeah.
01:36:44You know,
01:36:45you'll get my vote.
01:36:46I want to take it one,
01:36:47one,
01:36:48but it's a good pick.
01:36:49There's not a clear one,
01:36:51one in my mind.
01:36:52Yeah.
01:36:53There actually is not.
01:36:54Because everyone's afterschool snacks
01:36:56are basically based off of their parents
01:36:59or their friend's parents.
01:37:00Yeah.
01:37:00And the one house that had everything.
01:37:02Yeah.
01:37:02That was the best house.
01:37:05That's where I'm going with my one,
01:37:06one.
01:37:07Yeah.
01:37:08Okay.
01:37:08I'm worried that this is going to be a fat shaming thing.
01:37:11Okay.
01:37:13Because my afterschool snack.
01:37:14Meatballs?
01:37:15You're going to pick meatballs?
01:37:17Was just a four.
01:37:18Lasagna.
01:37:19That's just like a fourth meal.
01:37:20So I'm going to go nuggets.
01:37:23Okay.
01:37:24Yeah.
01:37:25Any specific?
01:37:26Chicken nuggets.
01:37:27Okay.
01:37:27Because I had dino nuggets.
01:37:28Dino nuggets were the best.
01:37:29Dino nuggets,
01:37:30but I thought maybe that was a little too niche.
01:37:32No,
01:37:32dino nuggets is good.
01:37:33Dino nuggets rock.
01:37:34Yeah.
01:37:35No,
01:37:36that's,
01:37:37yo,
01:37:37I had nuggets on my list.
01:37:38You're good.
01:37:39All right,
01:37:40this is my one,
01:37:41one.
01:37:42And this is based off of the friend's house
01:37:42who had everything.
01:37:43That had the stock pantry.
01:37:44Pizza rolls.
01:37:45Pizza rolls.
01:37:46Remember when Blake Bortles
01:37:47and Jerry Goff almost burned down that house
01:37:49at the Superbowl?
01:37:50Yes.
01:37:51And he tried to make pizza rolls?
01:37:52Yes.
01:37:53That was awesome.
01:37:54Yes.
01:37:54Okay.
01:37:55Good pick.
01:37:56I had it on my list as well.
01:37:58This is tough.
01:38:00This is tough.
01:38:02Okay.
01:38:03I will go with
01:38:06Doritos.
01:38:08All right.
01:38:08Cool ranch Doritos are my favorite.
01:38:10Do you want me to specify?
01:38:11I can.
01:38:12I don't care if you guys want.
01:38:13I think you can just say Doritos.
01:38:15Doritos.
01:38:16I mean,
01:38:17Doritos are the best.
01:38:18Ooh.
01:38:20Doritos are the best.
01:38:21They really are the best.
01:38:22And they're best.
01:38:23Yeah.
01:38:24After school.
01:38:25Dip them in some salsa.
01:38:26This is tough because I want to,
01:38:28I want to,
01:38:29you know what?
01:38:30I'm going to do it.
01:38:31I'm going to do it.
01:38:32I'm going to do it.
01:38:33I'm just going to double up on it.
01:38:34Pringles.
01:38:34You're going double chips.
01:38:35I'm going double chips.
01:38:36Cause I,
01:38:37this is,
01:38:38I'm a chips guy.
01:38:39Need the crunch.
01:38:40Doritos and Pringles.
01:38:40Lock up the chips aisle.
01:38:42Okay.
01:38:43Which,
01:38:44no,
01:38:45you don't have to specify.
01:38:45Pringles is fine.
01:38:47Sour cream and onion.
01:38:48Original.
01:38:49BBQ.
01:38:50That's my top three.
01:38:51No pizza.
01:38:52I wasn't a big pizza.
01:38:54The pizza
01:38:55combos and Pringles
01:38:56are like too artificial flavoring to me,
01:38:58which I know that sounds ridiculous
01:39:00because everything that we're listing
01:39:02is like the worst thing you can put in your body.
01:39:04But,
01:39:05yeah,
01:39:06I just,
01:39:07I never got into the pizza.
01:39:10I like the pizza.
01:39:10Okay.
01:39:11All right.
01:39:13Next up,
01:39:14I'm going to go string cheese.
01:39:15String cheese.
01:39:16Love that.
01:39:17Just toss it across the room.
01:39:18You don't even have to,
01:39:19you can go into your house for five seconds.
01:39:22Toss the string cheese,
01:39:23throw the backpack down,
01:39:24go back outside.
01:39:27Wait,
01:39:28this is me?
01:39:28Yeah.
01:39:29That's you?
01:39:30This was my other pick.
01:39:31Again,
01:39:33bigger than normal snacks.
01:39:35I'm going to go bagel bites.
01:39:36Okay.
01:39:37Yeah.
01:39:37I am a bagel bite guy over pizza roll.
01:39:39So am I.
01:39:40That was my second,
01:39:41in my big board it was nuggets one,
01:39:43bagel bites two.
01:39:44Yeah.
01:39:44Bagel bites are great.
01:39:46I love bagel bites.
01:39:47I'll eat them as an adult.
01:39:49I'm actually pretty shocked this got back to me.
01:39:51It's my turn, right?
01:39:52Yeah.
01:39:53Goldfish.
01:39:54Yeah.
01:39:55I feel like though,
01:39:56the only downside,
01:39:57I love goldfish.
01:39:58You can take out.
01:39:59I'm not saying anything bad about goldfish.
01:40:00I do fart more when I eat goldfish
01:40:02because I'm convinced that the air trapped
01:40:04inside the goldfish goes in your belly.
01:40:05And you swallow it?
01:40:06Yeah.
01:40:07So goldfish,
01:40:08I thought about too,
01:40:09but in my book,
01:40:11that's more of a like lunchtime snack.
01:40:13These are all kind of.
01:40:14That's like added in.
01:40:16No, they're all the same.
01:40:17You have that as a side dish.
01:40:18Yeah.
01:40:19I think all of these things would show up in a bag.
01:40:21That's true.
01:40:21Maybe not bagel bites.
01:40:22Yeah, but after school,
01:40:24you're just like,
01:40:24this is,
01:40:25you go to the pantry,
01:40:27and you're like,
01:40:28what am I going to eat?
01:40:28Right.
01:40:29Goldfish are always there.
01:40:30Yeah, because of the pantry there,
01:40:31whatever you're putting in your lunch is also.
01:40:33What are your goldfish flavors?
01:40:35Straight up.
01:40:36Straight up?
01:40:37Oh, flavor blast.
01:40:38You got to blast the flavor.
01:40:39I like,
01:40:39I do like the pretzel goldfish too.
01:40:42Little change,
01:40:43change of pace.
01:40:44I like the flavor blast,
01:40:45but you can just give me plain goldfish,
01:40:46and I could eat the entire family size box
01:40:49in one sitting.
01:40:50Maybe two.
01:40:51Okay.
01:40:56I will go with Famous Amos Cookies.
01:41:00Oh, good pick.
01:41:00Yeah.
01:41:01Good pick.
01:41:02That was the.
01:41:03The little bag?
01:41:04The big bag,
01:41:05like my parents.
01:41:05What am I thinking?
01:41:06That was like the BJ's.
01:41:07They had the big boxes at BJ's.
01:41:09But with little bags.
01:41:11No?
01:41:12Yeah, they come in little bags.
01:41:13The little yellow bag?
01:41:15Am I thinking of the mustard,
01:41:16like mustard yellow?
01:41:17That's Famous Amos.
01:41:18Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:41:19Those are great.
01:41:19They were like good sized bags.
01:41:21Yeah, but the cookies are small, right?
01:41:22Yeah.
01:41:23Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:41:24Good pick.
01:41:25Liked that pick a lot.
01:41:26God damn it, being a kid was the best.
01:41:29Because I have like half of these
01:41:31I have in my house right now,
01:41:33and it's a problem.
01:41:34I think we have most of them out just in the lobby.
01:41:36Yeah, it's a big.
01:41:37We definitely have goldfish.
01:41:38We've got Famous Amos.
01:41:39Famous Amos.
01:41:40Doritos.
01:41:41Yep.
01:41:42Yeah, we've got them all.
01:41:43All right.
01:41:44String cheese.
01:41:45Max.
01:41:46Is it me?
01:41:47Yeah.
01:41:48Is it?
01:41:49Wait, is it?
01:41:50Yeah.
01:41:50Yeah.
01:41:51I'm gonna go Uncrustables.
01:41:54Okay.
01:41:55Good pick.
01:41:56Good pick.
01:41:56I love Uncrustables.
01:41:57You're just going all meals.
01:41:58Yes.
01:41:59Okay.
01:42:00I mean, after school, that was my,
01:42:02like, I needed a fourth meal after school.
01:42:05All right.
01:42:06Like, why didn't you just think about
01:42:07what snack would you have after your fourth meal?
01:42:09Or would that, did you just go straight?
01:42:10No, but that was like the snack.
01:42:11Like, they're like the smaller meals.
01:42:15It was, it wasn't that,
01:42:17that's what I would have after school.
01:42:18I'm being true to myself.
01:42:19Yeah.
01:42:20And Uncrustables is a great choice.
01:42:21Yeah.
01:42:22It's a perfect snack.
01:42:23Did you not have a pantry?
01:42:25I did, but like, they didn't,
01:42:27it just wasn't really in my repertoire.
01:42:31Okay.
01:42:32All right, for my next one,
01:42:33I'm gonna go with celery and peanut butter.
01:42:37Especially for kids.
01:42:38If you want to, like, act like you're feeding them
01:42:39something good, it's celery.
01:42:41It's a vegetable.
01:42:42Yeah.
01:42:43And then we're gonna cover it in peanut butter.
01:42:45You go ants on a log or no?
01:42:46Ants on a log are good, but to tell you the truth,
01:42:47I don't have the patience for it.
01:42:49Yeah.
01:42:49Once I get the celery dipped in the peanut butter,
01:42:51I'm eating this.
01:42:52Yeah.
01:42:53Okay, question before I make my final two picks.
01:42:57Drinks, yes or no?
01:42:58Yes.
01:42:59Snacks?
01:43:00Are we saying drinks or no?
01:43:01I think they could be.
01:43:02Okay, because I don't want to.
01:43:03Because, okay, yeah, yeah, okay.
01:43:06No, Hank, no.
01:43:08I'm fine.
01:43:09Is a drink a snack?
01:43:10Yeah, I'm fine with not opening that door.
01:43:11I was just asking it for the group.
01:43:13Because I can go totally different place
01:43:15or I could go a drink, I don't care.
01:43:17But I want to just ask.
01:43:18Because I had a specific type of drink
01:43:20that is like somewhat snack adjacent.
01:43:22Right.
01:43:23Adjacent.
01:43:24Not a snack.
01:43:25All right, so let's go no drinks.
01:43:26That's fine.
01:43:26Okay, what would your drink have been?
01:43:27Capri Sun.
01:43:28Oh, good pick.
01:43:29Yeah.
01:43:30I would have taken Slurpee.
01:43:31Also good pick.
01:43:32The dictionary definition of snack
01:43:33is a small amount of food eaten between meals.
01:43:35All right, I would have done Capri Sun.
01:43:37I also had Yoohoo on the list.
01:43:40I had Sonny D on the list.
01:43:41We could do after school drinks.
01:43:43We could do that another time.
01:43:44All right, so I'm happy.
01:43:45That was very, that was nice how we did that.
01:43:48That was good.
01:43:49Okay.
01:43:52Let's see.
01:43:55Fruit snacks, easy.
01:43:56Do you want me to specify?
01:43:57I can.
01:43:59You would like me to specify.
01:44:00Okay.
01:44:01This is where I'm going to age myself.
01:44:02Fuck.
01:44:05Are you about to say the shark ones?
01:44:06Yeah.
01:44:07They're still around.
01:44:08Shark bites are still around?
01:44:09All right, good.
01:44:10I get gummy sharks in my frozen yogurt.
01:44:11So fucking great white shark is the best fruit snack ever.
01:44:15It is good.
01:44:16Shark bites, can you maybe put parentheses fruit snacks
01:44:19because people might not know what shark bites are?
01:44:20That's fair, that's fair.
01:44:22And then this, I'm not talking about homemade.
01:44:28I'm talking about store.
01:44:30Just rip it open.
01:44:31The Rice Krispie Treat.
01:44:33Love that.
01:44:34Rice Krispie Treat's old reliable.
01:44:35It's a good pick.
01:44:36Old reliable.
01:44:37Good pick.
01:44:38I also have that at my house.
01:44:39I'm bummed I can't take Slurpee
01:44:41after school snack.
01:44:42Yeah, no, I want to take Capri Sun.
01:44:43With a Slurpee, that's when you're driving home from school.
01:44:46Those couple years.
01:44:47You swing by the 7-Eleven on the way back.
01:44:50So I'm going to pivot and I'm going to go to
01:44:57Easy Mac.
01:44:58Easy Mac mac and cheese.
01:44:59Great pick.
01:45:00Great pick.
01:45:01Thank you.
01:45:02That's in my repertoire, yeah.
01:45:03Thank you, Easy Mac was elite.
01:45:06Max's last pick is steak.
01:45:07Meatballs.
01:45:08Meatballs.
01:45:10You have a great draft, Max.
01:45:12There's just no.
01:45:13I mean, I could just keep going
01:45:15because I have another one that I would like to do.
01:45:17Do it.
01:45:18Lunchables.
01:45:19Okay.
01:45:21Yeah, that's great.
01:45:23That's great.
01:45:23That's literally lunch, though.
01:45:24But it's a snack.
01:45:25But it isn't.
01:45:26It's not a real, it's not a full meal
01:45:28for a big growing boy.
01:45:30It can't be a snack if it's lunchable.
01:45:32Which lunchable?
01:45:33I think that's, I mean, I would eat it after school.
01:45:35I would eat that after school.
01:45:36But which lunchable?
01:45:39The.
01:45:40I wish I knew, 12-year-old Max,
01:45:42just fucking pounding all these things.
01:45:44No, but that's insane that we're allowing lunchables.
01:45:46It's literally lunch.
01:45:49I get it, but I, I mean, I would eat it after school.
01:45:51Yeah, I would eat it.
01:45:52That's fine.
01:45:53Yeah, these are things that I would eat after school.
01:45:55Yeah, all right.
01:45:55You can make another one.
01:46:00I crush lunchables after school.
01:46:02Yeah, lunchables are a crush.
01:46:03Crushed them.
01:46:04Crushed them.
01:46:05There's only a couple good ones.
01:46:06Like, the pizza ones were trash.
01:46:07No, I like the cheese and crackers.
01:46:10Yeah, the cheese and crackers.
01:46:11I think that, I don't know why, that should stand.
01:46:13If you want to take cheese and cracker lunchables.
01:46:15No, you can keep it, I just think that it's insane.
01:46:19Lunchables come with dessert and a drink.
01:46:21So it's like, it is more than a snack.
01:46:23There were ones that didn't come with all that.
01:46:25But lunchables, in Max's defense,
01:46:27lunchables for maybe guys our size was not a full lunch.
01:46:31That's not a full, no.
01:46:32You can't eat a lunchable for lunch.
01:46:33I never once had a lunchable for lunch.
01:46:35Never, because you'd just be like, what?
01:46:38That's all I get?
01:46:39Correct.
01:46:40That's like a warmup snack.
01:46:41You eat the lunchable and then you go to the bagel bites.
01:46:46Yeah.
01:46:47I'm sticking, lunchable, and I'll even put
01:46:50the cheese and cracker in parentheses.
01:46:53But you should just get cheese and crackers
01:46:54because lunchables come with a drink.
01:46:56But the lunchable ones are the, no.
01:47:00My qualm is not with the fact
01:47:02that there's so many things in a lunchable.
01:47:03It's just the fact that we're taking lunch as a snack.
01:47:06It's funny.
01:47:07It's ridiculous.
01:47:08But we're gonna let Max do it.
01:47:09But lunchables, if it weren't for the name,
01:47:11it is the quintessential snack.
01:47:14The name is what's stopping it.
01:47:16It's literally, the size is a snack.
01:47:18You eat it after school.
01:47:20Wait, question.
01:47:21Can a snack have a dessert?
01:47:24Do all lunchables have desserts?
01:47:25Yeah, I think they do.
01:47:27Yeah, I mean, well, half of mine are desserts anyway.
01:47:29No, but I mean, there's a dessert
01:47:31that goes along with his snack.
01:47:33After you're done with your snack,
01:47:35you can have your dessert.
01:47:35What was the dessert in them?
01:47:37There's like Andy's bar.
01:47:38There would be, right here.
01:47:42We can't see it, Max.
01:47:43We can't see it, Max. Oh, shit.
01:47:44It was the Andy's bar, the mint chocolate thing.
01:47:46There were ones that didn't have the stuff.
01:47:48Yeah, I used to not have ones with dessert.
01:47:51It would be like the meat and cheese and crackers.
01:47:54That was it. Yes, that's it.
01:47:55That was it.
01:47:57Those are the ones I used to have.
01:47:58Also, I'll even put just the meat, cheese, and cracker.
01:48:03Yeah, this is the one I'm talking about, PFT.
01:48:05That's basically, that's a snack.
01:48:07But I think that's leaving out a part of the tray.
01:48:09No, it's not.
01:48:10Yeah, because there was usually-
01:48:11Look at it.
01:48:12I think there was both.
01:48:13There was some that didn't have-
01:48:14There was some no dessert lunchables?
01:48:16Yeah.
01:48:17Yeah, I don't remember having,
01:48:19look at this one, ham and cheddar.
01:48:20There's no dessert in that one.
01:48:23Crackers, cheese, ham.
01:48:25Okay, all right.
01:48:27It is like, I mean, it's just not even close to a meal.
01:48:31It's 260 calories.
01:48:33Again, this might be us being biased.
01:48:35That's also like the same amount of calories
01:48:36as a bag of Doritos.
01:48:38Oh yeah, definitely.
01:48:39Okay, so you're sticking with it.
01:48:41I'm sticking with it.
01:48:43Memes?
01:48:44No, I-
01:48:44I'll even put the just meat, cheese, and cracker
01:48:46in the parentheses.
01:48:47I think Max should be allowed to pick it.
01:48:49I just think it's very funny that he took lunch
01:48:51as a snack.
01:48:51Yeah, yes.
01:48:52I'm looking right now, lunchables have gotten fancy.
01:48:55Yeah, too fancy.
01:48:56Just give me the meat, cheese, and crackers.
01:48:57They are crazy right now.
01:48:58Run the football.
01:48:59Holy shit, there are mini hot dog lunchables?
01:49:04What the fuck?
01:49:05Damn, they've got ones with Reese's in them.
01:49:08All right, Hank.
01:49:10Last pick?
01:49:11Yep.
01:49:12Dunkaroos.
01:49:13Good one.
01:49:15I had it on my list.
01:49:16Yeah.
01:49:17Can't argue with it.
01:49:18Can't argue with it.
01:49:20We missed a bunch.
01:49:23Gushers.
01:49:24Gushers, yeah.
01:49:24Cosmic brownies.
01:49:25Cosmic brownies are on my list.

01:49:32Fruit by the foot.
01:49:33I was a fruit by the foot guy.
01:49:34Were you guys a fruit by the foot or fruit roll-up?
01:49:36I was fruit roll-ups family, yeah.
01:49:37I liked fruit by the foot.
01:49:38I liked to spin it out and just eat it,
01:49:40like not use my hands.
01:49:41Yeah.
01:49:42I was a yogurt, like a Trix yogurt.
01:49:44Oh, Go-Gurt.
01:49:45Go-Gurt.
01:49:46Go-Gurt's a big miss.
01:49:47That was what I was gonna go if I didn't eat it.
01:49:48Trix yogurt was also really good.
01:49:49Trix yogurt was so good.
01:49:50Yeah.
01:49:51Gushers.
01:49:52We say gushers.
01:49:54The peanut butter chewy granola bar
01:49:55that's like a candy bar.
01:49:56Yep.
01:49:57You can pretend that it's healthy.
01:49:58Just cheese, those packets that were the neon orange
01:50:03cheese crackers with the peanut butter inside.
01:50:05Yes.
01:50:06You know those?
01:50:07Wait, are you talking about, yes.
01:50:08I liked the same one regular cracker,
01:50:13peanut butter inside,
01:50:14but I know what you're talking about the neon orange.
01:50:16Yeah, then-
01:50:17And they also had those with cheese.
01:50:18Yep, yep.
01:50:19Hot Pockets.
01:50:21Yep, I have a whole line of meals that's still-
01:50:23Hot Pockets.
01:50:24Dude, I used to crush Hot Pockets.
01:50:26I completely forgot about Hot Pockets.
01:50:28I loved Hot Pockets.
01:50:30God damn it, they were good.
01:50:32Just a grilled cheese sandwich.
01:50:34Taquitos I would do.
01:50:35Taquitos are good too, yeah.
01:50:37Taquitos.
01:50:37Peanut butter pretzels.
01:50:39Chocolate Teddy Grahams.
01:50:41I used to do Chocolate Teddy Grahams.
01:50:42This is now not after, well, I guess it's after school
01:50:44because it was college when I was high.
01:50:46Yeah.
01:50:47Tortilla, heated up, peanut butter,
01:50:52chocolate Teddy Grahams in it.
01:50:53Whoa.
01:50:54Actually, I think you've said that before.
01:50:55Yeah, it's a high.
01:50:56I think I might have put it in Chef Donnie's recipe book.
01:50:59Shows how great my palate is.
01:51:01I used to do the microwave nachos
01:51:04that if you just had shredded cheese,
01:51:06tortilla chips, and then just nuke them.
01:51:10You nuke them and then-
01:51:11I still do that.
01:51:11The cheese comes just like-
01:51:12We do it for dinner at my house once a week.
01:51:14Completely solid.
01:51:15It burns onto the chip.
01:51:17Oh yeah, oh yeah, it's good, it's great.
01:51:17And then you bite it and it's all chewy
01:51:19and you're like, this is still good.
01:51:20Yeah.
01:51:21It's good stuff.
01:51:22I was the apples and peanut butter guy.
01:51:23Yep, apples and peanut butter, very good.
01:51:25Sun Chips, always liked Sun Chips.
01:51:28You guys like Sun Chips?
01:51:28Yeah, they're okay, yeah.
01:51:29They also were like in that-
01:51:30I like the garden, the garden salsa ones.
01:51:32I like the blue ones and it was always,
01:51:34Sun Chips were in that range
01:51:35where you could pretend it was healthy
01:51:37just because it looked different
01:51:38and it didn't look like Doritos,
01:51:39like kind of in your face,
01:51:41like you're going to fucking eat this.
01:51:43Yeah.
01:51:44Sun Chips like, oh, it says sun in it.
01:51:46Yeah.
01:51:49The Ruffle Sour Cream and Cheddar.
01:51:52Love those chips.
01:51:53Those are good chips, yeah.
01:51:54My chip guy, through and through, always been.
01:51:56Did I say grilled cheese?
01:51:58Yeah, you said grilled cheese.
01:51:58Yeah, just whipping up grilled cheese real fast.
01:52:00Oh, I had one other drink that,
01:52:03maybe PFT, you and I might be the only ones,
01:52:06did you guys ever have the juice barrels?
01:52:09Yeah, juice barrels.
01:52:09That's like a soccer halftime snack.
01:52:11They're little kegs of just juice.
01:52:12Yeah, we had those.
01:52:13And it was like not, there was no flavors.
01:52:15It was just red or blue, great.
01:52:17Barrel drinks.
01:52:18Great.
01:52:19You could drink one of those in about a quarter of a second.
01:52:20Great.
01:52:21Those were great.
01:52:25Yeah, Yoohoo, we said.
01:52:26Anything else?
01:52:27What did we miss, Yubi?
01:52:29We got them all?
01:52:30Feels pretty good, yeah.
01:52:31I feel like we nailed a lot of these.
01:52:34Hot Pockets was a miss.
01:52:35Big miss.
01:52:36I loved Hot Pockets.
01:52:37What flavor?
01:52:38You like the ham and cheese?
01:52:39You like the cheese steak?
01:52:41Cheese steak and then the pepperoni.
01:52:42Yeah, pepperoni's good.
01:52:43I was ham and cheese and the meatball.
01:52:46The meatball mozzarella.
01:52:47Gotta get the meatball in there.
01:52:48Yeah.
01:52:50You have to get the meatball.
01:52:51Gotta find a way to get the meatballs in there.
01:52:53I should've, oh fuck, I should've done that.
01:52:55You're lucky that you didn't,
01:52:56we didn't start with this Mount Rushmore last summer
01:52:59when you first started
01:53:00because your name would definitely have been Meatball.
01:53:01Yeah.
01:53:02Meatball Maxi.
01:53:03Meatball.
01:53:05Meatball Maxi.
01:53:06All right, anything else, Hank?
01:53:09That was the best, getting out of school
01:53:11and just being able to go to town on all the snacks.
01:53:15It's hard, I struggle with I wanna be that house,
01:53:19but also I don't want a ton of random kids in my house.
01:53:23So I think I'm not gonna.
01:53:24Also, it's valuable to teach your kids to scavenge.
01:53:26Yeah, but the one house that had the best snacks
01:53:29was always the one, one pick of everyone
01:53:31whose house we're gonna go to.
01:53:33I wanna be in that middle zone where,
01:53:35yeah, my kids come over with their friends,
01:53:37but every day I think that'd be a lot.
01:53:39And I wanna sneak into the,
01:53:42you can go get a snack,
01:53:43but then later on you'll be like, let's go.
01:53:44Yeah, let's go.
01:53:45If you can build it, they will come.
01:53:47That's pretty much it.
01:53:47If you just build a convenience store in your house,
01:53:50all the kids will come over.
01:53:51And that's a very slippery slope
01:53:52until all the kids coming over all the time,
01:53:54and then next thing you know, they're in high school,
01:53:56and then your basement is the party basement.
01:53:58Yeah, yeah.
01:53:59And also, I don't want all the kids eating my snacks,
01:54:02because they are my snacks.
01:54:03I'm the one who buys them.
01:54:04Yep, they're not my kids.
01:54:06Those were like, a lot of these were the ideal snacks.
01:54:09I would rarely have them in my own house,
01:54:12but every time I went somewhere else's,
01:54:14it would be like, this is what I wanted as a kid.
01:54:16This is what I wish my parents were.
01:54:18Yes, yes, yeah.
01:54:20That's as simple as a kid.
01:54:23It's like, do they allow toy guns?
01:54:26Can you watch TV and snacks?
01:54:28That's what I want my parents to be.
01:54:29What video game system do they have?
01:54:31Right, yeah.
01:54:33Okay, good Mount Rushmore, boys.
01:54:37Okay, that is our show.
01:54:38Take ease on Wednesday.
01:54:41We can't remember if we already taped numbers or not,
01:54:43so we're gonna do one right now.
01:54:45And if we did do it, you'll get two numbers this time.
01:54:48So everyone be cool between now and Wednesday,
01:54:49because we will be awarding the AWL award
01:54:56to some podcast listeners.
01:54:58So much like right before Christmas,
01:54:59when you try to make your parents think
01:55:01that you're doing a lot of good stuff
01:55:02to get presents and toys, just be cool this week.
01:55:04Compliments are fine.
01:55:05Everyone give memes a compliment this week.
01:55:08Give everyone a compliment.
01:55:09Say something nice about all of us.
01:55:11But yeah, so if we have double numbers,
01:55:14you're not hallucinating.
01:55:16There'll just be another numbers
01:55:17with Max and Hank right after these.
01:55:19But let's try to get one of us
01:55:20to get it right now without Max here.
01:55:22So numbers.
01:55:23Eight.
01:55:2577.
01:55:26Three.
01:55:2720.
01:55:2899.
01:55:29Actually, can I change mine?
01:55:30Yes.
01:55:3156.
01:55:32Yes.
01:55:33I was gonna say.
01:55:34Yeah, 56.
01:55:35Would you rather have 20?
01:55:35No, I'll take 56.
01:55:3621.
01:55:39This officially counts, even if we did other numbers.
01:55:42Everyone agrees, yes?
01:55:44Okay.
01:55:44It counts.
01:55:5271.
01:55:53Love you guys.
