00:00Today is the Feast of St. James, brother of St. John, sons of Zebedee, first of the Apostles
00:22to be martyred.
00:24In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
00:27Amen.
00:28Peace be with you.
00:29And with your spirit.
00:30We acknowledge our sins, we acknowledge the compassion and the mercy of God.
00:36You call us to inner healing, Lord have mercy.
00:40Lord have mercy.
00:41You empower us to new life and new hope, Christ have mercy.
00:45Christ have mercy.
00:46And you call us away from fear into love, Lord have mercy.
00:51Lord have mercy.
00:52May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and lead us into healing and
00:58life everlasting.
01:01Amen.
01:03Glory to God in the highest.
01:05And earth peace to people of good will.
01:08We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you.
01:13We give you thanks for your great glory.
01:17Lord God, Heavenly King, O God, Almighty Father.
01:22Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son.
01:25Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father.
01:29You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
01:34You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer.
01:39You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
01:43For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High,
01:49Jesus Christ.
01:51In the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father, Amen.
01:57Let us pray.
02:04Almighty ever-living God, you consecrated the firstfruits of your apostles by the blood
02:10of St. James, grant, we pray, that your church may be strengthened by his confession of faith
02:17and constantly sustained by his protection through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who
02:23lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever, Amen.
02:36A reading from the second letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians.
02:42We are only the earthenware jars that hold this treasure, to make it clear that such
02:47an overwhelming power comes from God and not from us.
02:53We are in difficulties on all sides, but never cornered.
02:58We see no answer to our problems, but never despair.
03:03We have been persecuted, but never deserted, knocked down, but never killed.
03:11Always, wherever we may be, we carry with us in our body the death of Jesus, so that
03:17the life of Jesus too may always be seen in our body.
03:21Indeed, while we are still alive, we are consigned to our death every day for the sake of Jesus,
03:30so that in our mortal flesh the life of Jesus too may be openly shown.
03:37So death is at work in us, but life in you.
03:42But as we have the same spirit of faith as mentioned in Scripture, I believed and therefore
03:48I spoke.
03:49We too believe and therefore we too speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus
03:55to life will raise us with Jesus in our turn, and put us by his side and you with us.
04:04You see, all this is for your benefit, so that the more grace is multiplied among people,
04:11the more thanksgiving there will be for the glory of God.
04:15This is the word of the Lord.
04:18Thanks be to God.
04:21Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy.
04:29When the Lord delivered Zion from bondage, it seemed like a dream.
04:34Then was our mouth filled with laughter, on our lips there were songs.
04:39Those who sow in tears shall reap with joy.
04:43The heathens themselves said, What marvels the Lord worked for them!
04:49What marvels the Lord worked for us!
04:51Indeed, we were glad.
04:53Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy.
04:58Deliver us, O Lord, from our bondage, as streams in dry land.
05:03Those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap.
05:06Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy.
05:11They go out, they go out full of tears, carrying seed for the sowing.
05:16They come back, they come back full of song, carrying their sheaves.
05:21Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy.
05:25Alleluia, Alleluia.
05:28I have chosen you from the world, says the Lord,
05:31to go and bear fruit that will last.
05:34Alleluia.
05:43The Lord be with you.
05:44And with your spirit.
05:46A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
05:49Glory to you.
05:51The mother of the sons of Zebedee came to them
05:55to make a request of him, and bowed low.
05:59And he said to her, What is it you want?
06:02She said to him, Promise that these two sons of mine
06:07may sit, one at your right hand and the other at your left,
06:11in your kingdom.
06:14You do not know what you are asking, Jesus answered.
06:18Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?
06:21They replied, We can.
06:23Very well, he said.
06:25You shall drink my cup.
06:27But as for seats at my right hand and my left,
06:30these are not mine to grant.
06:32They belong to those to whom they have
06:34been allotted by my father.
06:38When the other ten heard this, they
06:40were indignant with the two brothers.
06:43But Jesus called them to him and said,
06:46You know that among the pagans the rulers lord it over them,
06:50and their great men make their authority felt.
06:53This is not to happen among you.
06:55No.
06:56Anyone who wants to be great among you must be your servant.
07:00And anyone who wants to be first among you must be your slave.
07:04Just as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve,
07:09and to give his life as a ransom for many.
07:17The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
07:19Praise you, Lord Jesus Christ.
07:21Lord Jesus Christ.
07:24Well, the apostles are far from perfect, aren't they?
07:28They're arguing who's going to be the most important, the most
07:31significant.
07:33Jealousy among them.
07:36The ordinary stuff of human experience.
07:40And Jesus does not give up on them.
07:44In fact, they grow, and they eventually mature spiritually,
07:49and even give their life for the sake of the gospel.
07:54A great reminder of hope for us in our human frailty
07:57and our human realities.
07:59That God never gives up on us.
08:02That we can indeed grow.
08:04That indeed we can leave the past behind.
08:06That indeed we can become more the person
08:09we've been created to be.
08:12So we thank God for these eyewitnesses
08:14of the resurrection who have brought down the faith to us
08:18and have borne the testimony that Christ is indeed risen.
08:25He's been risen today, and with us today, and always will be.
08:49Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
08:52for through your goodness we have this bread to offer,
08:54which earth has given you, and hence it made.
08:57It will become for us the bread of life.
08:59And blessed be the Lord forever.
09:18Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
09:21for through your goodness we have this wine to offer.
09:23Fruit of the vine, work of human hands,
09:25it will become a spiritual drink.
09:28Blessed be the Lord forever.
09:40Let us pray, brothers and sisters,
09:41that my sacrifice and yours may be accepted.
09:45Let us pray, brothers and sisters,
09:47that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable
09:49to God, our Almighty Father.
09:51May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands
09:54for the praise and glory of his name,
09:56for our good and good of all his holy Church.
09:59Cleanse us, Lord, by the saving baptism of your Son's Passion,
10:03so that on the Feast of St. James,
10:06whom you willed to be the first among the apostles
10:08to drink Christ's chalice of suffering,
10:12we may offer a sacrifice pleasing to you,
10:15through Christ our Lord.
10:17Amen.
10:33The Lord be with you.
10:34And with your spirit.
10:36Lift up your hearts.
10:37We lift them up to the Lord.
10:38Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
10:40It is right and just.
10:42It is truly right and just,
10:43much more than a duty and good for our salvation,
10:46always and everywhere to give you thanks,
10:49Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God.
10:53For you, eternal shepherd, do not desert your flock,
10:57but truly blessed apostles,
10:58watch over it and protect it always,
11:01so that it may be governed
11:03by those you have appointed shepherds,
11:05to lead it in the name of your Son.
11:08And so, with angels and archangels,
11:10with thrones and dominions,
11:12and with all the hosts and powers of heaven,
11:15we sing the hymn of your glory,
11:17as without end we acclaim.
11:19Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts,
11:23heaven and earth are full of your glory.
11:27Hosanna in the highest.
11:29Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
11:32Hosanna in the highest.
11:35You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
11:38Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
11:41by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
11:44that they may become for us
11:46the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
11:49At the time he was betrayed
11:51and entered willingly into his passion,
11:53it would bread, and giving thanks, broke it,
11:57and gave it to his disciples, saying,
12:00take this, all of you, and eat of it,
12:02for this is my body, which will be given up to you.
12:13In a similar way, when supper was ended,
12:16he took the chalice, and once more giving thanks,
12:19he gave it to his disciples, saying,
12:22take this, all of you, and drink from it,
12:24for this is the chalice of my blood,
12:27the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
12:30which will be poured out for you and for many
12:33for the forgiveness of sins.
12:35Do this in memory of me.
12:46In mystery of faith, we proclaim your death, O Lord,
12:51and profess your resurrection until you come again.
12:56Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial
12:58of his death and resurrection,
13:00we offer you, Lord, the bread of life
13:02and the chalice of salvation,
13:04giving thanks that you've held us worthy
13:06to be in your presence and minister to you.
13:10Humbly we pray that, partaking of the body
13:12and blood of Christ, we may be gathered
13:14into one by the Holy Spirit.
13:17Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world,
13:21and bring her to the fullness of charity.
13:23Together with Francis our Pope,
13:25meet your unworthy servant,
13:27Eugene our Emeritus Bishop,
13:29and all the clergy who serve your people,
13:33and the entire family your Son has gained for you.
13:37Remember also our brothers and sisters
13:39who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection.
13:45And all who have died in your mercy,
13:47welcome them into the light of your face.
13:51Have mercy on us all, we pray,
13:53that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
13:56Blessed Joseph, and Spouse,
13:57with the Blessed Apostles,
13:59and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
14:03we may, through your grace,
14:04merit to be coerced within our life,
14:07and may praise and glorify you
14:09through your Son, Jesus Christ.
14:14Through him, and with him, and in him,
14:16O God, Almighty Father,
14:18in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
14:20all glory and honour is yours forever and ever.
14:23Amen.
14:25At the Saviour's command,
14:27and formed by divine teaching,
14:28we dare to say.
14:30Our Father, who art in heaven,
14:32hallowed be thy name.
14:34Thy kingdom come,
14:36thy will be done,
14:37on earth as it is in heaven.
14:40Give us this day our daily bread,
14:43and forgive us our trespasses,
14:45as we forgive those who trespass against us,
14:49and lead us not into temptation,
14:52but deliver us from evil.
14:54Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil.
14:57Graciously grant peace in our days,
14:59that by the help of your mercy,
15:01we may be always free from sin,
15:03and safe from all distress,
15:04as we await the blessed hope
15:06and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
15:09For the kingdom, and the power, and the glory
15:11are yours now and forever.
15:14Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles,
15:17Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,
15:19look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church,
15:22and graciously grant her peace and unity,
15:25in accordance with your will,
15:27who live and reign forever and ever.
15:29Amen.
15:29The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
15:32And with your spirit.
15:34Let's offer each other a sign of peace.
15:35Peace be with you all.
15:41Lamb of God.
15:42You take away the sins of the world,
15:44have mercy on us.
15:46Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
15:49have mercy on us.
15:51Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
15:54grant us peace.
16:01Behold the Lamb of God,
16:02who takes away the sins of the world.
16:04Happy are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb.
16:07Lord, I am unworthy, you should enter under my roof,
16:11but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
16:15My Jesus, I believe that you are present
16:18in the most blessed sacrament.
16:20I love you above all things
16:21and I desire to receive you into my soul.
16:24Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
16:28come at least spiritually into my heart.
16:30I embrace you as if you were already there
16:33and unite myself wholly to you.
16:36Never permit me to be separated from you.
16:39Amen.
16:42Let us pray.
16:46Help us, O Lord, we pray,
16:49through the intercession of the blessed Apostle James,
16:52on whose feast we have received with joy your holy gifts,
16:56through Christ our Lord.
16:57Amen.
16:58The Lord be with you.
17:00And with your spirit.
17:01And may the peace and the blessing of the Father
17:04and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit come upon you
17:06and remain always with you.
17:08Amen.
17:09Let us go and live the gospel.
17:11Thanks be to God.
17:12And God bless your day.
17:19Amen.
