Catholic Mass Today I Daily Holy Mass I Wednesday August 28 2024 I English Holy Mass
Transcript
00:00Today is the feast of St. Augustine, the great doctor of the Church, the man who went through
00:20a tremendous conversion in his life to become a great saint, the son of St. Monica. In the
00:27name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, peace be with you. We acknowledge
00:33our sins, but more importantly, the compassion, the mercy, and the love of God. Lord, have
00:39mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive
00:46us our sins, and lead us into healing and life everlasting. Let us pray. Renew in your
00:55Church, we pray, O Lord, the spirit with which you endowed your bishop, St. Augustine,
01:01that filled with the same spirit, we may thirst for you, the sole font of true wisdom, and
01:07seek you, the author of heavenly love. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives
01:13and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
01:21A reading from the first letter of St. John. My dear people, let us love one another. Since
01:27love comes from God, and everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God, anyone who
01:34fails to love can never have known God, because God is love. God's love for us was revealed
01:41when God sent His Son, His only Son, so that we could have life through Him. This is the
01:49love I meant, not our love for God, but God's love for us, when He sent His Son to be the
01:55sacrifice that takes our sins away. My dear people, since God has loved us so much, we
02:03too should love one another. No one has ever seen God, but as long as we love one another,
02:09God will live in us, and His love will be complete in us. We have known that we are
02:15living in Him, and He is living in us, because He lets us share His Spirit. We ourselves
02:22saw and we testify that the Son, the Father, sent His Son as Savior of the world. If anyone
02:29acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them, and they in God. We ourselves
02:36have known and put our faith in God's love towards ourselves. God is love, and anyone
02:43who lives in love lives in God, and God lives in them.
02:50The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Lord, teach me your decrees. Lord, teach me your
02:57decrees. How shall the young remain sinless by obeying your word? I have sought you with
03:04all my heart. Let me not stray from your commands. Lord, teach me your decrees. I treasure your
03:13promise in my heart, lest I sin against you. Blessed are you, O Lord, teach me your statutes.
03:20Lord, teach me your decrees. With my tongue I have recounted the decrees of your lips.
03:28I rejoice to do your will, as though all riches were mine. Lord, teach me your decrees.
03:37Alleluia, alleluia. You have one Father, your Father in heaven. You have one Teacher, the
03:44Lord Jesus Christ. Alleluia.
03:49The Lord be with you. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Glory to you,
03:56O Lord. Jesus said to his disciples, You must not allow yourselves to be called Rabbis,
04:03since you have only one Master, and you are all brothers and sisters. You must call no
04:08one on earth your Father, since you have only one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor must you
04:15allow yourselves to be called Teachers, for you have only one Teacher, the Christ. The
04:21greatest among you must be your servant. Anyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and
04:28anyone who humbles themselves will be exalted.
04:34The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
04:41Indeed, it is everything we have comes from God, and any type of pretense is foolishness.
04:50Saint Augustine was a great wise man who tried everything before his conversion
04:56and then gave his whole life to God, and recognized indeed the wisdom, the true wisdom
05:01that comes from God. He had searched for it everywhere, and in the end discovered that
05:07it's God's love that sustains him. He was sidetracked in so many ways before his conversion,
05:13but he knew that wisdom that comes from God, a great model for us that we can let go of
05:20those things that distract us, and say, yes, amen to our God. Your will be done.
05:29Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have this bread to offer,
05:34which earth has given you and hence have made. It will become for us the bread of life.
05:40Blessed be God forever.
05:58Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have this wine to offer,
06:03fruit of divine work of human hands. It will become a spiritual drink.
06:07Blessed be God forever.
06:23Let us pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God,
06:28our Almighty Father. May the Lord accept the sacrifice at our hands,
06:32for the praise and glory of God's name, for our good and the good of God's holy church.
06:40Celebrating the memorial of our salvation, we humbly beseech you,
06:43have mercy, O Lord, that the sacrament of your loving-kindness may be for us
06:48the sign of unity and the bond of charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
06:53The Lord be with you. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.
07:02It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you
07:07thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, through Christ our Lord. For as on the
07:13festival of St. Augustine you bid your church rejoice, so too shall we rejoice in your glory.
07:20For as on the festival of St. Augustine you bid your church rejoice, so too your strength
07:26be strengthened her by the example of his holy life. Teach her by his words of preaching,
07:32and keep her safe in answer to his prayers. And so, with the company of angels and saints,
07:37we sing the hymn of your praise, as without end we acclaim,
07:42Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory,
07:48blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest.
07:57You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy, therefore, these gifts,
08:02we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for us
08:08the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly
08:14into his passion, he took bread, and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples,
08:21saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you.
08:33In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and once more giving thanks,
08:39he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it,
08:44for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
08:50which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.
09:04The mystery of faith. We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection
09:10until you come again.
09:21Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you,
09:25Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held
09:30us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that, partaking of the body
09:37and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your Church,
09:44spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Francis,
09:49our Pope, me, your unworthy servant, Eugene, our emeritus bishop, all the clergy who serve
09:56your people, and the entire family your Son has made for you. Remember also our brothers and
10:03sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy.
10:10Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the
10:15blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles, Saint
10:22Augustine, and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may, through your grace,
10:28merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
10:38Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, Almighty Father,
10:42in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. Amen.
10:51At the Saviour's command, and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say,
10:56Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth
11:03as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive
11:10those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
11:17Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the
11:23help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin, and safe from all distress, as we await the
11:29blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory
11:36are yours, now and forever. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, Peace I leave you,
11:43my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant
11:48her peace and unity, in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.
11:55The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always. Let us offer each other a sign of peace.
12:01Peace be with you all.
12:06Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the
12:14sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
12:38Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are those who are
12:43called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,
12:48but only say the word, and my soul shall be healed.
12:52My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament. I love you above all
12:58things, and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
13:05come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there,
13:10and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
13:18Let us pray. May partaking of Christ's table sanctify us with prayer, O Lord, that by being
13:25made members of his body, we may become what we have received. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
13:32The Lord be with you, and may the peace and the blessing of the Father, and of the Son,
13:37and of the Holy Spirit come upon you, and remain always with you.
13:41Let us go and live the gospel. Thanks be to God. God bless your day.
