00:00The National League Cy Young Race in Major League Baseball down the home stretch of this
00:09season as most teams have played now 100 of 162 regular season games will be a very fun
00:16focus for us in those individual chases for some hardware and it seems to be a three arm
00:25race. In the National League Chris Sale remains the favorite at plus 145. He did not pitch
00:30yesterday though due to a postponement and a rainout he is scheduled for the second of two
00:36today for the Atlanta Braves. So let's get you the results of a Tuesday evening. Paul Skeens
00:42suffering the first loss of his MLB career now 6-1 with a 1-9-3 ERA but you can see it was
00:49a pretty good outing going into the ninth inning eight and a third just four hits to earn runs and
00:558k. Zach Wheeler seven innings of shutout work against the Minnesota Twins. Seven strikeouts
01:02only three hits allowed earned the win. Philadelphia got the win yesterday against
01:10the Minnesota Twins. Again Chris Sale did not pitch. It was a day where we were going to focus
01:16on those three guys in the hunt for the NL Cy Young. Two of the three did pitch. Chris Sale did not
01:21because of the rain out in Atlanta. Yeah and if we were looking from yesterday and I remember
01:26coming into because I was you know sort of concerned but not concerned about Zach Wheeler
01:31because usually the alarm flags get raised when you're missing starts but understand what the
01:35Phillies were doing. Hey you know what if it was just a minor back spasm let's give him the most
01:39time off we can possibly give him where he can recover when he comes back from the offset break
01:43he's going to be fine. 100 plus pitches there seven innings dominant baseball no runs given up
01:49against a pretty quality Minnesota lineup in Minnesota. Loved what I saw but also said this
01:53if I get a really good start out of Zach Wheeler in that baseball game I'm gonna put him as my
01:58favorite right now for the Cy Young because if you're saying there's three guys in the field
02:03right now that clearly have separated themselves. Donny give me two guys to battle. It's gonna be
02:06Paul Skeens. It's gonna be Zach Wheeler. I would actually leave Chris Sale out even though he is
02:10the favorite because if I expect what I see out of Zach Wheeler he's been pretty dominant over the
02:15past couple years he's gonna be right in at the end of the season. The only thing that can trip
02:19him up is excitement with Paul Skeens because what do we like obviously we like wins here but
02:23we like guys throwing 100 plus pitches and absolutely with filthy stuff and racking up
02:27strikeouts which is what Paul Skeens is going to do but also as I talked about early in the show
02:33it feels like it's unfair. I just wish Paul Skeens pitched from opening day because I honestly
02:38believe that Skeens if he was on this same trajectory would be the leader by quite some
02:42margin right now at the FanBlue Sportsbook as the favorite to win it but he's sort of playing
02:46behind the eight ball where I do believe that he has the opportunity. Let's equate this to the WNBA
02:51Ben. Angel Reese. What would have happened if Angel Reese continued her double-double streak right
02:56through to the final game and really ran that record up the flagpole? We honestly would have
03:00an interesting conversation but the minute she lost that double-double mantle she dropped like
03:05a rock in the standings that looks like Caitlin Clark is going to win it. The reason I bring that
03:09up is if Paul Skeens continues unbelievable starts throughout August and September he's
03:14going to be right there and a rightful chance to win that Cy Young but if he goes two or three
03:18starts that are average I don't think he can win it Ben. It's unfair but it's just the way it is.
03:23Right you're correct in the idea the notable record for Angel Reese came to a close the
03:28final few games of extending that consecutive streak to 15 maybe poke some holes and how
03:34legitimate all of those double-doubles were but it was also because of Caitlin Clark's history
03:39and those record performances as well. The reason I go back to the WNBA rookie of the year race
03:45is because if we see Chris Sale continue to pitch gems and he leads all of MLB with 13 wins this year
03:52or Zach Wheeler turns it on down the home stretch for the best team in baseball the Philadelphia
03:57Phillies like he did yesterday seven innings of shutout work only allowing three base knocks
04:02those guys based on their own stellar individual performances can start to see their odds shift
04:08even more because of the movement on Paul Skeens yesterday two dollars off the price plus 550 to
04:14plus 350 we see a little bit of that market maneuvering but it's really still just a three
04:21guy race Chris Sale plus 145 Zach Wheeler plus 180 in Skeens at plus 350 a large drop off to
04:29Logan Webb and Tyler Glass now at a 35 to 1 number we kind of know where things stand in the
04:36NL Cy Young race if the Pittsburgh Pirates now a game above 500 and only a game and a half back
04:42of a wild card spot in the National League stay competitive that Paul Skeens price is legitimate
04:49which was not the case when these odds came out and Paul Skeens started his MLB career even halfway
04:56into his 12 starts or eight starts into the 12 that he has made in his career the thought was
05:02all right he'll go until September they'll shut him down they'll get him ready for year number two
05:08not the case anymore and even just about a month and a half ago the number was 120 to 1
05:14for Skeens to win the National League Cy Young award now plus 350.
