00:00Former UMNO Supreme Council member Isham Jalil has urged Deputy President Mohammad

00:07Hassan to challenge the President, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, for the party's top post.

00:13Mohammad, who is also known as Topmat, said he is ready to defend his Deputy President's

00:17post if the position is contested in the next party elections.

00:21Speaking at a Charama in Gombat last night,

00:24Isham called on Mohammad to reconsider his decision and take on Zahid for the party presidency.

00:30Isham said many among UMNO's grassroots would support Mohammad if he were to take on Zahid,

00:35as they do not want to be associated with the current President.

00:38Isham also called on Mohammad to lead UMNO in leaving the unity government,

00:42which he criticized for issues such as the increased cost of living

00:45and its ties with US investment firm BlackRock.

00:49He urged Mohammad not to wait until the last minute to lead UMNO in leaving the government,

00:53as it would split the Malay votes,

00:55causing Pakatan Harapan Chairman and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to win again.
