00:00More than 200 foreign workers at Kawaguchi Manufacturing Senior Berhad, who had endured
00:06seven months without salaries, are clinging to the hope of securing new jobs before the
00:10fasting month begins in February.
00:13Despite a recent mediation where Kawaguchi agreed to settle the overdue salaries, beginning
00:18with RM1,000 on January 15th, the workers' futures remain uncertain.
00:22One of the workers, Farouk 37, said they were having sleepless nights, fearing they might
00:27not be paid at all.
00:29Currently, he said they rely on meals sponsored by Daikin Industries Ltd, funded by a US$12,000
00:35donation which will only last until December 29th.
00:38Mohosin, another worker, plans to use his first payment to settle debts with a sundry
00:43shop where he and others have been buying essentials on credit.
00:47The shop had stopped allowing them to buy on credit as payments had been delayed, he
00:51said.
00:52Nayem 23 faces added pressure as he had mortgaged his family's home in Bangladesh to fund his
00:58job in Malaysia.
01:00He fears the bank will seize his home and evict his family as he is unable to service
01:03the loan.
01:04Last Thursday, after a peaceful protest, Kawaguchi agreed to pay their 251 workers, addressing
01:10unpaid wages totaling more than RM3 million since May.
