00:00Kelantan state government has announced that all food and beverage establishment owners
00:05in the state will soon be required to obtain a halal certificate to renew their business
00:09licenses.
00:10Asri Mat Daud, the state chairman for the Islamic Development, Dakwa, Information and
00:15Regional Relations Committee, said the Kota Bharu Municipal Council will be the first
00:19to enforce this requirement.
00:21He said other local councils in Kelantan will follow suit and implement this rule in the
00:25near future, but did not specify the exact timeline for statewide enforcement.
00:30Since 1974, halal certification has been voluntary at the federal level.
00:35Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zayed Hamidi previously said halal certification would
00:39only be required for companies willing to comply with all the relevant requirements,
00:43standards and regulations.
00:45Asri said 453 premises, including hotels, pharmacies and hair salons, had been awarded
00:51halal certificates from January to this month across Kelantan.
