00:00Hello everyone. I just watched a movie called The Ectorcist. It came out this year and a
00:09lot of people thought because Russell Crowe was in it this was the sequel to last year's
00:15movie that he did called The Pope's Ectorcist. It is not. They didn't really advertise this
00:23movie too well at all. I didn't even know it was coming out and I watched a little bit
00:29of the trailer and I was like okay this is different. It's an Ectorcist movie, yes, but
00:38it's different than most Ectorcist movies. So I turned it off immediately and I wanted
00:44to see it in the theater but unfortunately it just didn't come here. So now it's available
00:49to rent so I decided to rent it and check it out. Now I'm honestly not a big fan of
00:55Russell Crowe. I did not like Gladiators. I just flat out didn't like it. Even so he
01:02did win an Academy Award for Best Actor. I believe he should have got a Best Actor Award.
01:09He was nominated but he didn't get the Best Actor Award for A Beautiful Mind. I thought
01:14A Beautiful Mind was a much better movie. So Russell Crowe is kind of a hit and miss
01:19with me but more I don't like him more. It's kind of hard. I guess he's basically a hit
01:28and miss for me. But in this movie I really liked him in this movie. He did a fantastic
01:36job in this film and there's also some other actors that I'm sure you're going to recognize
01:42like Adam Goldberg. Adam Goldberg is well known for the Equalizer TV show. He's on that.
01:51If you know, you know. And also David Hyde Pierce. He was Frasier's brother. Niles Crane
02:01in the Frasier TV series. That's what he's known for as well. But he's done other movies
02:06as well and he's a good actor and he's in this as well. And a very young actress. There's
02:12two young actresses in this film as well. Ryan Wilkins or Simpkins if I'm saying the
02:19last name right. Ryan Simpkins and she's a wonderful young actress. She's only 26 years
02:25old and the last time I saw her in a movie she's been in other stuff. But she is known
02:32for Fear Street. Fear Street is based on a book and it's a Netflix movie. They made
02:38them into three movies and it's a horror slasher type movie that's really a good show. So if
02:46you like horror movies you've got to check out Fear Street. And she was in that. And
02:53she was in this movie. There's another young actress too. Chloe, can't remember her last
03:00name but I don't want to tell you her full name. I want you to be surprised with this
03:04young actress. She's a singer and she was in this movie as well. And she's an amazing
03:09actress. Like that cast alone made me like wow I have to see this movie. So as I'm watching
03:17it it's a different type of actress's movie. Now what it's about is they're making an actress's
03:25movie. They're making an actress's movie. And they talk about what they briefly mention
03:32what happens when horror movies are made. You may not know this but when they made The
03:38Omen and The Actress and The Poltergeist, the older movies, not the remakes, maybe the
03:47remakes too, who knows. But weird stuff happened on set. Really weird things happened on set.
03:55So this is what this movie is about. Weird things happening on the set of a remake of
04:01the movie The Actressist. I was like wow I like that concept. But there was more to it
04:09than that. At the beginning it hooks you. The person who's playing The Actressist, he
04:15goes into this house and he has a script with him. And as he's reading the script trying
04:22to remember his lines, something happens to him. Does he die? Does something happen
04:30to him? Does he get scared off set? He doesn't want to be involved in the movie anymore.
04:38I'm not going to tell you what happened. So now they're looking for another actor to play
04:43the father. They're looking at Russell Crowe's character. Now him and his daughter don't
04:53get along too well. Even so he tries. But he knows what he did. He did when his wife
05:06was dying of cancer. He couldn't cope. So he drank and drank and did drugs and ignored
05:14his daughter. So his daughter pushed away and got angry. She got so angry she still
05:22can't call him dad. He is calm now. He's on his medication. He wants to get into the acting
05:31again. So he oddsetitions for the role of the father in The Actressist movie. At first
05:38they're hesitated. Then they decide to hire him. But there's a lot more to it than that.
05:47It's a great film. And on IMBD it only gets a 4.4 out of 10. I'm like, really? And a 28%
05:58I'm like, it deserves more than that. It's a good film with issues. The acting is solid.
06:05What I didn't like about it is the scenes were too dark. When creepiness started coming into
06:13the factor, and accidents on the set, and Russell Crowe's character changing, I liked that. But
06:21the scenes were too dark. And I have an issue with scenes that are too dark. Other than that,
06:28the music, the creepy music, the center photography was excellent. The script writing to me was not
06:36weak. It is more of a horror drama or a horror thriller. Supernatural, yes. There's a supernatural
06:47element here too. And that's really good. Like Russell Crowe gets so involved in the movie,
06:54he all of a sudden can't say certain lines. That fascinates me. And now the daughter is really
07:01concerned for him, thinking that he fell off the wagon again. Did he? Possibly. I don't want to
07:08say too much more. But there's a lot more involved than what I'm telling you. I personally give this
07:16a 7.5 out of 10, because of the character development and the fantastic acting. Not because
07:25of the dark scenes. Even so, that did annoy me. If the scenes were a little bit more brighter,
07:30and things were a little bit better, I'd probably give it an 8. So it's not an excellent film in any
07:38way. But it's the actors that make this movie. And the movie goes by very quickly, an hour and a
07:45half. But there's a lot of heart involved in this movie. Except for some scenes that were kind of
07:51dark. A 7.5 out of 10 everybody. I think this definitely deserves a watch. And strangely enough,
07:58I would watch it again, just because the acting was fantastic. And there's some other people in
08:04this movie too, that I just did not mention, because I want you to be surprised. All right
08:09everyone, bye for now. Have an incredible day. This is Paul Branson. Check out my food reviews,
08:14movie reviews, and much more. And thank you again for watching.
