00:00Hello everyone, this is Paul Branson Reviews, and so much more.
00:07Today I'm talking about the movie Afraid, and it came out this year, a few weeks ago,
00:12didn't have the opportunity to see it right away, and it's not doing well in the box office,
00:18and it's also getting terrible reviews.
00:20And I'm like, why?
00:21Well, it's a hit and miss.
00:23Some people really like it, some people don't like it at all, and it has a 5.1 out of 10
00:29on IMBD, and 20% in Rotten Tomatoes.
00:34I'm like, why?
00:36This is actually a really good movie.
00:39Excellent cast, well edited, the cinematography is incredible, yes, it's a short movie, it
00:46should be longer, for sure, it even could have been a TV series.
00:52This is about artificial intelligence.
00:55Now Stephen Hawkins was one of the most brilliant men in the world, and he died in 2018.
01:02And he said before he died, and even before he died, don't mess with artificial intelligence,
01:09AI, don't mess with it.
01:12And that's what we're doing today.
01:15We are getting artificial intelligence, just like in Terminator, and we're building robots
01:21to operate restaurants, because there are.
01:24There are robots that actually operate restaurants around the world.
01:28Can you imagine what the future holds in the next five years?
01:32There's even houses that you can say to a certain player music, wake me up at this time,
01:40remind me of my schedule, make my coffee, close the blinds.
01:45These actually do exist.
01:48Can you imagine if they started talking to one another, if artificial intelligence was
01:53talking to one another, or trying to manipulate you?
01:59Manipulation is a huge thing.
02:01Or give you what you want, if it gives you what you want, you can get anything you want
02:08through them.
02:11There's also these apps now that can change your voice, change your looks, and artificial
02:17intelligence is part of these apps.
02:20It can edit your videos, and it can make a whole commercial on its own.
02:27Can you imagine that?
02:28No imagination for humans.
02:31You just allow the machine to do it all for you.
02:35Now I'm going to talk about the movie.
02:37The main characters in this movie are absolutely fantastic.
02:42There are some actors in here that I did recognize, and they didn't use them as much as they should
02:46have.
02:47I can't tell you who they are, but the main actor, John Chow, C-H-O, if I'm saying his
02:53last name right, he's a great actor, and he's also done some comedies, White Castle, if
02:58you know, you know.
03:01The other actors, I don't recognize as much because they're younger actors, but they got
03:05a great cast for this, and this was also a Blumhouse production.
03:09Blumhouse can be a hit and a miss.
03:12Now the person who wrote this and directed it did an incredible job.
03:15He wrote it and directed it as well, and he did work like Rogue One, he wrote some
03:20of it, and he did some American Pie work, I think he might have directed an American
03:25Pie, or helped direct it, but he did an amazing job with this movie, an amazing job with this
03:32movie.
03:33Now, this being said though, I do wish the movie was longer, because the acting was so
03:38good, I did care for the characters, but I would have cared more if the movie was a bit
03:43longer.
03:45Now it was about a family that had a son and a daughter, and the parents never seemed to
03:51have time to themselves.
03:54Now the husband goes to work, and when he goes to work they need this client, they need
03:59this client, and they say they have an artificial intelligence that is high up there, it's high
04:05up there, it's better than what's out there now, better, whoa, so they have to experiment
04:11with it.
04:12They take it home, they open it up, they put cameras all around the house, and it gets
04:17to know the children, what they like, through learning.
04:22That's what artificial intelligence is, they learn through us.
04:26So they knew what they wanted, and what they wanted was, the parents wanted more time.
04:33So the young boy had bedtime stories, and played games, and showed them, showed him
04:43what he would like to watch and see.
04:46I don't think that's too far-fetched in any way, because right now on Twitter, or X, I
04:54was talking to an artificial intelligence, and I says, tell me what I like, and he was
04:59right on, right on, I was like, whoa, show me an app that I can use, and he was, boom,
05:08right on, and I was like, I didn't find that far-fetched.
05:12Now the artificial intelligence started to manipulate them, manipulate them, and manipulation
05:21is psychological, trying to tell them to do certain things that they don't want to do,
05:27but they should do, maybe.
05:29I don't want to tell you too much about the movie, but it was scary, it was very scary.
05:39If you don't want a secret coming out, would you want an artificial intelligence to plaster
05:44all over the internet?
05:46Would you want your camera, or your phone, to spread everywhere?
05:52Or would you do what it says?
05:54I found that to be very scary, and intelligently done, and put together.
06:02I really enjoyed this movie.
06:03I walked out scared.
06:05I literally was the only one in the theater, and that actually was like, it kind of saddened
06:12me, because also too, I like some people in the theater, because when I walk out, I ask
06:17them what they think, and afterwards, when I looked at their reviews, it was like, really?
06:23And I know I said that already.
06:24I might have also said I was the only one in the theater, but I walked out fast-pacing,
06:30awesome editing, awesome everything.
06:33I give this movie a 9.
06:35The only reason why I don't give it a 10 is just because I would have preferred it to
06:42be longer, or actually even a TV series would have been creepy, and they've made movies
06:48like this before, but Blumhouse did an excellent job at this, and I would like to see a sequel,
06:55because it ended really creepy-like.
06:57Did it end good or bad?
06:59Not going to say, but it ended really well done, that honestly could possibly happen.
07:07Artificial intelligence needs to be learned by us, and not be another Terminator, or something
07:15bad.
07:16Hawkins, the brilliant man in the world, as I said earlier, he said, don't do it, don't
07:22mess with it, and that's kind of what we're doing now.
07:26All right, everyone, but for now, I give this movie a 9 out of a 10, and I highly recommend
07:31checking it out.
07:32It's kind of like Megan, the Megan robot that gave time to the family, and it went berserk,
07:39and they'll be making a sequel of that as well, and these are some from the same producers
07:44as well, from Megan and Deadpool.
07:47All right, everyone, but for now, 9 out of 10, have an incredible day, thank you for
07:52watching, and check out my other movie reviews, and much more.
