00:00Hello everyone, my name is Paul Branson and I do many things, movie reviews, food reviews,
00:07and much more.
00:08Today I'm talking about Steamboat Whistle, and that's a Mickey Mouse cartoon, black
00:16and white, back in the 1930s or 40s.
00:20Now it became copyright free this year, and when it did, people started putting it on
00:26YouTube.
00:27Mickey Mouse, a Mickey Mouse cartoon, copyrighted it.
00:29But not the Mickey Mouse that we know.
00:32This Mickey Mouse was slightly different.
00:34It was one of the first cartoons of black and white they put out, I believe.
00:39So this particular Mickey Mouse is copyright free.
00:42So people started putting it out and getting millions of views on YouTube.
00:46All of a sudden, Disney didn't really like that.
00:49So they got their lawyers to get YouTube to take it down.
00:54Now all Disney had to do was to keep that type of Mickey Mouse away from the public
01:00so they can't do various things with it, edit it and do what they want with it, was to make
01:05a small little video.
01:07That's all they had to do.
01:08And boom, they would have had their rights to it again.
01:11But they didn't do it.
01:13With millions and millions of dollars that Disney has, and all they had to do was make
01:17another little cartoon of that Mickey Mouse.
01:22They couldn't do it.
01:23They didn't do it.
01:24So now it's public domain, a certain type of Mickey Mouse.
01:29So they made a slasher film called Mousetrap.
01:32And that's the film I'm talking about today.
01:35It just came out yesterday, so I rented it, I think it was like four bucks.
01:39And I enjoyed it.
01:40Now the reviews came out this morning.
01:42When I woke up this morning, people were giving it, I think IMBD was giving it a 2.8 out of
01:4810.
01:49And Rotten Tomatoes was giving it a 40%.
01:52I liked it a little bit better than that, because I know certain things when it comes
01:57to low-budget films, there's certain things they just can't do.
02:01I get that.
02:03I didn't like the format too much.
02:04Like when it first opened up, they had a Star Wars type thing, you know how Star Wars has
02:09that writing stuff coming down like stars all around it, and they were talking about
02:14copyrights and all that stuff.
02:16And I was like, I didn't really like that too much.
02:18I know why they had to do it, but I didn't like it.
02:23And then it went to a jailhouse, with a couple of cops talking to a woman in jail, saying
02:27what happened.
02:29So now, I don't like that either.
02:31You know how they always do that, someone's running away from the killer, and then they
02:35say five hours later, or two days earlier, and I'm not a real big fan of that.
02:42But I was okay with it, because I figured, okay, she's telling the story now, and then
02:46it will just show her ending the story, and you didn't know who survived, you didn't know
02:51who died, in a way.
02:56You knew she survived, because they were talking to this one woman, and I was like, okay.
03:01So now, it starts off a beautiful scene, when she told the story, of an arcade, an old-fashioned
03:08arcade, Fun Haven, I think they called it, or Fun Arcade, or whatever it was.
03:12But it was a nice building, and obviously, this was shot on a very low, low budget.
03:18But I didn't mind the actors, I didn't mind the storyline.
03:21The boss had to make them stay late, because there was another party coming in of eight
03:25kids, for a couple, two, three hours.
03:29But it wasn't kids that were coming in.
03:31Alex had a birthday party, and she was one of the employees there.
03:34And the other employee there left, and said she's coming back.
03:38But it wasn't kids coming at the party this time.
03:41It was her friends giving her a surprise party.
03:44Now the owner goes to the back room, and watches Steamboat Whizzy, uh, Whizzy, Whizzle, the
03:49smart cartoon.
03:50And that was kind of cool.
03:52And he had a mask sitting there, too.
03:55Now you don't really know what happens next, because obviously I'm not going to tell you.
03:59But now, Mickey Mouse, and that mask, is on somebody.
04:03And now, that somebody, and he was creepy.
04:06Mickey Mouse was actually creepy.
04:08His voice was creepy, everything about that, the kills were good.
04:13A lot of scenes were rushed, but this is the problem I had.
04:16They kept on going back and forth to, to the police station, and the woman behind the
04:23bars, going, wait a minute, that didn't make sense, you were over there.
04:27Because they were thinking, she's the killer.
04:28Was she?
04:29I'm not going to say.
04:30Because it was kind of like a thriller, mystery, slasher type film.
04:33And I didn't like that.
04:37I would have preferred leaving that out, and just go to Fairhaven Arcade, and get right
04:42into the story.
04:43And some shots should have been redone, because some of the acting is like, okay, sometimes
04:48her acting was really good, and then some shots should have been redone.
04:52But I overlook stuff like this.
04:54I believe they probably had a very rushed, they had to do this in a very fast and quick
04:59way.
05:00I get that.
05:01And the director did a good job.
05:02The music was good, and the scenes of killing was good.
05:05The character development wasn't there, but they were going for that 1980s look.
05:10And that 1980s, they didn't really have a lot of character development.
05:14You did have some character development in the 80s going, I don't want this person to
05:17die, or this person to die.
05:19But I thought it was way better than a 2.8 out of 10.
05:22I actually give this movie probably a 6, maybe a 6.5.
05:26It was a fun movie.
05:27It needed to be cleaned up a little bit, but if you like horror movies, now, yes, I do
05:32have to admit, as I said before, character development wasn't really there, but it was
05:37all about Alex's birthday party.
05:39And they got locked in Fairhaven, or whatever, Funhaven, Fairhaven, but whatever it was,
05:44they got locked in there.
05:45They couldn't leave, and weird stuff started happening, and creepy voices started happening.
05:50Would have I liked that a little bit or more earlier in the film?
05:52Possibly, but they were leading up to it, and it was nice.
05:56It was a nice feel to it.
05:58I just did not like going back to the jailhouse and back and forth.
06:02The ending paid off, and I wouldn't mind a sequel.
06:05And there were certain aspects I'm just not going to tell you, because I'd spoil it for
06:09you.
06:10I do think it's worth a watch, and I do enjoy it, so I'd give it a 6, a 6.5, overlooking
06:14a few things.
06:15All right, everyone, that's my take on that, and there's some actors, the main actors,
06:22Alex, before I let you go, she was in The Sacrifice Games, so if you haven't checked
06:27out The Sacrifice Games, I had the same feeling towards that movie as well, but it was better
06:34in a lot of ways.
06:35But I still had the same feeling, and I kind of gave it...
06:40I don't really want to say...
06:42I might do The Sacrifice Games at some other time, but I had the same feelings about it
06:47as this movie.
06:48All right, everyone, bye for now, have an incredible day, an incredible, fantastic day,
06:53and thanks for watching.
06:54Check out my other movie reviews and recommendations and much more.
