00:00I feel like fashion is the flow of the body.
00:14Fashion is the flow of expression.
00:16Fashion relates to the way that I move my body.
00:18The way that I run down the track is almost like the same way I could strut down the runway.
00:22And then sports are the one and the same, an expression of self and the expression of
00:26flow.
00:27Beauty and the beast comes together.
00:34Basically, it's my own catwalk.
00:36My lane is my catwalk.
00:44It seems like a lot of athletes move here.
00:47I don't know if it's the weather.
00:48I don't know if it's like the coaches that are here.
00:51But this seems like the place to be for athletes.
00:56I just think it's important that she is in the environment that she trains in to honor
01:01how she expresses herself.
01:07She gives me an energy that even while she's doing my hair, I can almost like feel her
01:12genuineness going into my scalp.
01:16Just her coming in with different ideas, I'm like, I'm with it, like let's do it, like
01:20what else you want to do?
01:23I only could get to this point through experience and having the right people around me.
01:28I know that no matter what I do, no matter what decision I made, I know that it comes
01:32from me.
01:33This could be her moment.
01:34This should be her moment.
01:37Where'd you get the idea for that?
01:46Um, my head.
01:47Because I was like, oh, no, she didn't like her hair.
01:51Why does she still have the wig on?
01:54When I seen her rip it, I was like, oh, my god.
01:56Yes, ma'am.
01:57I know that's right.
01:58And I understood the symbolism when she did it.
02:01Like, I understand where she was coming from.
02:03I'm not going to change the confidence
02:04that I have in myself ever.
02:06But at the same time, I have learned
02:08that there is a way that I can carry
02:09that so much more gracefully.
02:10That's where, really, that moment came from.
02:13I actually got into nails because of my grandmother.
02:17She could grow her natural nails out this long.
02:19And I'm not even over-exaggerating it.
02:21That was something I noticed when I was younger.
02:23Just always stuck with me.
02:24These are like more, you know, acrylic, but that's fine.
02:27Last year's Women's 100 Meters winner,
02:30the American Florence Grittith Joyner.
02:32Seeing Flojo, her style, as well as Gail,
02:35just showing their different approaches,
02:37how they come to the line.
02:40The blue, the white, the red, the gold.
02:44She did her thing.
02:45Oh, my god.
02:46Wait, what's the five for?
02:48The lane five is my favorite lane.
02:50And then lane nine, which is a historical lane,
02:53setting a championship record.
02:55She carries through that!
02:57That was the inspiration behind the nails.
03:00Their queen of the track, Florence Grittith Joyner,
03:02is here, and the fastest woman on earth
03:04with the Hollywood style.
03:05I more so found my interest in Flojo
03:08after the fact of finding my love for track through my mom.
03:11It hurt me, but it didn't bother me.
03:14I know that I'm a champion.
03:15Flojo's influence on me definitely comes
03:17from her creativity and her freedom
03:20to just express herself in a way
03:21that no other female athlete, honestly,
03:24had ever done.
03:25Showing beauty, yet being able to show hard work
03:28applying to each other.
03:29There are a lot of parallels between Flojo and Sha'Carri.
03:33They both have a very distinct style,
03:36very independent, strong women.
03:38They like to show themselves on the track.
03:44I wanna make sure that my makeup
03:46doesn't look lighter than what I am.
03:47I'm a melanin girl, so I wanna make sure
03:49that it match my skin tone.
03:50I'm gonna wear a quickie.
03:51Okay, and I definitely will let you know.
03:54Thank you.
03:55I don't wanna look ashy.
03:57I want to look like a brown-skinned girl on camera.
03:59I'm a brown-skinned girl, so yes.
04:01So I just wanna make sure that that's emphasized.
04:03Yes.
04:16My family, they never allowed me to forget who I am
04:18and where I come from.
04:19Little do they know, they recharged me.
04:21I can go do this.
04:22I can go out in the world and handle whatever comes my way
04:24because I know when I come home,
04:26that is what's gonna continue to be my fuel.
04:36That energy is becoming a new world in itself.
04:40I feel like I'm a part of a new world.
04:42I feel like I'm a part of a new generation.
04:45I feel like in other sports,
04:46they show that athletes can be fashionable
04:48just as much as they can be athletes.
04:49We glam up.
04:51We put it on.
04:52We step forward.
04:52We're ready no matter what.
04:54Look good, feel good, do good.
04:55That all relates to the mental aspect,
04:57the emotional aspect, and ultimately the physical.
05:15I'm a champion.
05:16I'm a champion.
05:17I'm a champion.
05:18I'm a champion.
05:19I'm a champion.
05:20I'm a champion.
05:21I'm a champion.
05:22I'm a champion.
05:23I'm a champion.
05:24I'm a champion.
05:25I'm a champion.
05:26I'm a champion.
05:27I'm a champion.
05:28I'm a champion.
05:29I'm a champion.
05:30I'm a champion.
05:31I'm a champion.
05:32I'm a champion.
05:33I'm a champion.
05:34I'm a champion.
05:35I'm a champion.
05:36I'm a champion.
05:37I'm a champion.
05:38I'm a champion.
05:39I'm a champion.
05:40I'm a champion.
05:41I'm a champion.
05:42I'm a champion.
