00:28 The council called on all MPs and ministers to ensure that this plan of converting minors
00:32 is stopped immediately and action is taken against Firdaus Wong.
00:37 It said the plan to convert minors to Islam goes against the fundamental liberties stated
00:41 in the federal constitution, adding that the constitution stipulates that a child's religion
00:45 is the decision of his or her parents.
00:48 The council went on to say that encouraging a child to utter the Kalima Shahada, which
00:53 is spoken at the point of conversion, is a breach of Article 12(4) because parental consent
00:58 was not obtained.
01:00 Article 12(4) of the federal constitution provides that the religion of a person under
01:04 the age of 18 shall be decided by his parent or guardian.
