00:00The federal constitution should be amended to prevent the propagation of any religion
00:07to persons of another religion against their will or without their consent, lawyer Bastian
00:12Pius van Dargen told FMT.
00:15He added that it was improper for Muslims to enter non-Muslim places of worship to preach.
00:22Last week, Terengganu Mufti Sabri Harun suggested that Muslims may enter non-Muslim houses of
00:28worship to propagate Islam.
00:31In response, Van Dargen said a federal law could be passed to prohibit the Mufti's suggestion.
00:37He also said Sabri's proposal may go against Section 298A of the Penal Code, which makes
00:44it an offence to cause disharmony, hatred or enmity on religious grounds.
00:50The federal constitution currently only prohibits the propagation of other religions to Muslims.
00:56Meanwhile, lawyer C. Vignesh Kumar Chelapa believed that the current legal framework
01:01is sufficient to ensure that peace is not disrupted on religious grounds.
