00:02 Several former athletes have lauded an FMT initiative which saw 50 retired
00:07 national sportspersons receive monetary aid just before the Hari Raya IDFI Tree festivities.
00:12 Iyat Ramadan 2024 held at Concord Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on Thursday was graced by the Sultan of
00:18 Pahang, our Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tengku Aziza Amina
00:24 Maimunah Iskandaria. The event saw the Sultan hand out RM1,000 to 50 members of the National
00:30 Athletes' Welfare Foundation who have been struggling with health, financial and unemployment
00:34 challenges. Some beneficiaries present at the event were Paracyclist Mohd Shazman Roshdi,
00:40 footballer Khalid Jamlus, bowler Ahmad Amin Hussin and rugby player Alias Qasim. Former
00:47 Para Swimmer Nurul Shakina Abdullah expressed her heartfelt appreciation to FMT for its support of
00:52 former athletes facing adversity.
00:54 Former Para athlete Aziza Tayib said despite their significant achievements,
01:11 these sportsmen only received one-time incentive payments.
01:15 When I was in my sister's time, we received RM2,000.
01:22 One-off.
01:24 She said, "This is a record-breaking event, you get an extra RM1,000."
01:28 That's all.
01:29 One-off.
01:31 Former Malaysian football coach K. Rajagopal, who led Malaysia to victory in the 2010 AFF
01:36 Suzuki Cup, praised the initiative, describing it as a positive step towards recognising our
01:40 forgotten heroes.
01:42 Definitely it's something which is very encouraging, which is a good platform for the
01:52 athletes, ex-athletes, really in some difficult situations. They have sacrificed. And I think
02:01 that this is a good event that we do consider care for them showing the support in whichever
02:12 way, you know.
02:14 Former bodybuilder and six-time Mr Asia winner Malik Nur urged the corporate sector to explore
02:19 the possibility of sponsoring welfare programmes organised by Yakyem.
02:23 I urge other companies to help the ex-athletes who are in need.
02:35 Not all athletes are lucky.
02:37 Today is the last day of the programme we are doing.
02:42 We can do it.
