00:00:05 Can you say hard hats, folks?
00:00:07 Hard hats, lunch pail, steel tool, boots.
00:00:09 Anything short of a championship this year is a fail.
00:00:11 Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:13 You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:16 Somebody said we need to apologize for Jaylen.
00:00:18 Can I pull the John?
00:00:19 What are we apologizing for?
00:00:20 What did we say?
00:00:21 What did we do?
00:00:22 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:00:26 --going against a guy like Jaylen is so challenging.
00:00:32 Oh.
00:00:33 Well, Jaylen's their best player.
00:00:35 Oh, snap!
00:00:37 [LAUGHTER]
00:00:39 Look at what Jason Kidd went and did.
00:00:42 Oh, changing the narrative.
00:00:46 Jaylen Brown, Jason Tatum, hitting them
00:00:48 against each other once again.
00:00:49 I don't believe it.
00:00:51 I don't believe it.
00:00:52 On the last question, too.
00:00:53 You waited to the last question.
00:00:56 What are we doing here?
00:00:58 [LAUGHTER]
00:01:01 And here we go.
00:01:02 Fun stuff today.
00:01:05 And again, that kid, Jason Kidd, definitely had his fun there.
00:01:12 Celtics responded to it.
00:01:14 Fun little thing to talk about, a little psychological warfare
00:01:17 going on behind the scenes.
00:01:18 As the Celtics--
00:01:20 Yes.
00:01:21 Yeah.
00:01:22 And I agree.
00:01:23 I agree.
00:01:25 He's going to drive JT out of Boston, not JB.
00:01:29 Because JB is the best player now.
00:01:32 It was so good.
00:01:34 It was so--
00:01:34 Brian can't say he's disrespected anymore.
00:01:41 But now--
00:01:42 He's the captain now, Bobby.
00:01:43 He's the captain now.
00:01:44 Exactly.
00:01:45 Let's go.
00:01:45 Oh, so funny for so many different reasons.
00:01:48 But anyway--
00:01:49 Just like I said, last question of the press day.
00:01:51 It was almost a nothing, and then it turned into that.
00:01:54 Gave us something to talk about and some fun stuff today
00:01:57 at practice.
00:01:59 Same situation.
00:02:00 We got to talk to everybody ahead of game two, which
00:02:04 is tomorrow, 8 PM at the TD Garden.
00:02:07 We were all down there, took it all in,
00:02:09 got a chance to hear from everybody.
00:02:11 We'll talk about what happened today, what the vibe is.
00:02:17 Dallas in their 3-0 game two record,
00:02:19 and the Celtics in their 1-2 game two record
00:02:24 through the playoffs right now.
00:02:26 And this is about as pivotal as it gets, certainly
00:02:28 for the Mavericks, because I think they go down 2-0.
00:02:34 Bye bye.
00:02:36 You think?
00:02:37 I want to see you in Dallas.
00:02:40 I'd be really surprised.
00:02:41 Again, they got to do something.
00:02:44 But I do like the little psyops there
00:02:46 that was going on for Kidd there.
00:02:48 And that definitely gave us a little bit of something
00:02:50 to talk about.
00:02:50 We talked with Chris Stapps again
00:02:52 about how he feels on game two.
00:02:53 Kyrie Irving on whether the fans bother him.
00:02:57 Guys, we could start with Brown and Tatum, because it is fun.
00:03:00 But if you have anything else that you like better,
00:03:02 I'm happy to go in that direction first.
00:03:05 Yeah, let's do it.
00:03:06 You guys were walking around.
00:03:07 What did you like today?
00:03:09 What was tough in your mind in terms
00:03:12 of the people you were talking to and what was interesting?
00:03:14 I know this became the thing, but still.
00:03:17 It's still at the top of the list,
00:03:18 because I think what Jason wanted
00:03:21 happened, which is the question repeated itself
00:03:24 for every other player, especially Jalen,
00:03:25 especially Tatum.
00:03:27 Neither took the bait.
00:03:28 But at the same time, some people
00:03:32 put in other quotes out there.
00:03:34 Drew Holliday is one that stood out the most.
00:03:36 I've got all of these.
00:03:38 I'll play them all.
00:03:38 We'll get into that later.
00:03:39 Yeah, I just want to tease it up, I guess.
00:03:41 But yeah, so that's the top of the list for me.
00:03:43 The second thing is what Kyrie had to say.
00:03:46 I thought it was really interesting in terms
00:03:49 of just looking back at everything
00:03:52 and just really getting a chance to--
00:03:56 I don't want to say anywhere near an apology,
00:03:59 but maybe as close as one that we're
00:04:01 going to get out of the guy.
00:04:02 And again, it's the same sort of talk that it's been.
00:04:06 He was in a different place.
00:04:07 And he was in Boston.
00:04:08 A lot of people don't even know what was going on in his life.
00:04:11 However, he's just trying to look ahead.
00:04:13 You didn't-- you're not.
00:04:15 He got you too, Josue?
00:04:17 I mean, I'm not saying he's sorry.
00:04:20 But this is his way of saying, hey, again, guys,
00:04:25 I'm not the same person I was back then.
00:04:27 But I don't think he's actually sorry, though.
00:04:29 He's just trying-- doing his best to sort of minimize
00:04:31 the damage or what's going to be the damage when he goes out
00:04:36 there for game two.
00:04:37 But then if you rewind back to the postgame comments
00:04:41 from game one saying, oh, I thought they would be louder,
00:04:43 I think that one is still going to resonate with the fans.
00:04:46 So they're going to try to be even louder
00:04:48 than they were in game one.
00:04:48 So there was nothing really he could say today
00:04:51 to prevent that from happening.
00:04:53 But I just thought the way he put everything together
00:04:55 in terms of spending time in Boston,
00:04:59 apparently fans say what up to him.
00:05:01 That was kind of news to me.
00:05:02 Maybe they're trolling, maybe not.
00:05:04 But-- and of course, reminding us of his father's background.
00:05:07 He went to school out here, Boston University,
00:05:09 and all that stuff.
00:05:10 I watched his dad play in person.
00:05:12 Did you really?
00:05:13 Yeah.
00:05:14 Oh, yeah.
00:05:14 Oh, yeah.
00:05:15 So--
00:05:15 He was excellent.
00:05:16 He was the best player at BU.
00:05:17 I think they went to the tournament one year
00:05:18 while he was here.
00:05:20 Dredrick Irving was awesome.
00:05:21 He was awesome.
00:05:22 I mean, again, he's playing against--
00:05:23 He played against--
00:05:24 --Dredrick Lewis, right?
00:05:25 He's really good, yeah.
00:05:27 So Dredrick Irving was a really good player, yeah.
00:05:30 I actually-- I did not know for the first, like,
00:05:33 three, four years of Kyrie's career that that was his dad.
00:05:35 I found it out, like, later.
00:05:37 And I was like, what?
00:05:38 It was weird for me.
00:05:39 It's like Luke and Drake May.
00:05:40 Yeah.
00:05:41 Wait, was it the commercial that did it
00:05:42 when you were playing one on one?
00:05:43 No, no, no.
00:05:43 It was before he got to Boston.
00:05:44 But it was when he first got to the NBA.
00:05:47 I didn't know that was Dredrick's kid.
00:05:48 But anyway, Bobby, what about you?
00:05:50 What stood out?
00:05:52 Yeah, the Kyrie stuff was definitely interesting there.
00:05:55 And the Brown Stadium thing is what it is.
00:05:58 And it's almost good for the Celtics
00:06:02 that we did so much of this already.
00:06:04 They've talked about this so much
00:06:07 that this isn't anything new.
00:06:09 This might be something new for a kid to be like,
00:06:12 ooh, let's try to fire up the tension between these guys.
00:06:16 Or let's try to get them grilled with questions about this.
00:06:19 But I don't think he even realizes how much we've
00:06:23 been through this and they've been through this.
00:06:25 So I don't know what kind of impact it's going to make.
00:06:28 It's certainly not going to have any encore implications.
00:06:31 Because the game is what the game is at this point.
00:06:33 They're loading up, selling out, taking Tatum out of it.
00:06:37 And that's freeing up guys like Brown and others.
00:06:40 But I am curious going into game two, how much stays the same?
00:06:46 Does Chris Stapps keep coming off the bench?
00:06:49 Do the Mavericks keep missing their open shots?
00:06:52 And they had a ton of open shots when you look at the numbers
00:06:55 in game one.
00:06:56 And do the Celtics get excellent performances out of their role
00:07:01 guys once again?
00:07:02 Drew, fantastic.
00:07:04 Hauser, out of this world.
00:07:06 Way above what you would have expected from him.
00:07:08 Porzingis doing what he did off the bench.
00:07:11 Those were all important in this becoming an uncompetitive game
00:07:14 one.
00:07:15 I think there's a lot of ways you can look at this
00:07:17 and say the series from this point
00:07:19 on is going to be a lot more competitive.
00:07:21 But the one thing that's probably going to change here
00:07:24 that Kit alluded to is that they got to stop playing as much
00:07:26 one on one.
00:07:27 They can't have nine assists.
00:07:29 They can't just be falling into isolation against Boston
00:07:32 because that's what Boston wants here.
00:07:34 So can they produce more movement?
00:07:36 Can they get more guys involved?
00:07:37 It seems like that's what they're
00:07:38 going to try to do here.
00:07:40 Yeah.
00:07:41 Yeah, no doubt about it.
00:07:42 I think the real stuff is the matchup.
00:07:45 Like, what do they do different?
00:07:47 I do think there's a little bit of the kid stuff
00:07:50 from earlier, which kind of plays into strategy in terms
00:07:55 of--
00:07:55 so look, this notion that what Kit said
00:08:01 and the gamesmanship behind it and the psychological warfare
00:08:04 is going to tear the Jays apart is silly.
00:08:06 And anybody who goes in that direction is dumb.
00:08:10 But I do--
00:08:10 What do you think of the Jays actually talking it out
00:08:13 on the court?
00:08:13 Yeah, but they didn't take the bait, though.
00:08:15 Well, hold on.
00:08:16 You know what Kit wanted.
00:08:17 Kit wanted Jaylen to go up there, get the quote,
00:08:20 repeat it to him, and then say, well, hey, look,
00:08:22 I work on my crap.
00:08:23 I do this and that.
00:08:24 Aye, aye, aye.
00:08:25 But he didn't take it.
00:08:26 Let's play the sound and let people
00:08:28 judge how the sound responded to it,
00:08:29 starting with the full Jason Kid bite, because it's interesting.
00:08:32 I'm going to point--
00:08:33 I want to listen carefully to everything that he said there,
00:08:36 because I am kind of curious.
00:08:39 I want your guys' reaction to it.
00:08:41 But here it is.
00:08:42 Makes going against a guy like Jaylen so challenging.
00:08:45 Well, Jaylen's the best player.
00:08:50 So just looking at what he does defensively,
00:08:56 he picked up Luka full court.
00:08:59 He got to the free throw line.
00:09:01 He did everything.
00:09:02 And that's what your best player does.
00:09:04 What's your reaction to Jay Kid saying that?
00:09:09 No reaction.
00:09:10 This is a team sport.
00:09:13 We understand that.
00:09:15 We wouldn't be here if we didn't have JB on our team.
00:09:19 And we could say that for a lot of guys.
00:09:22 We've all played a part in getting to where we're at.
00:09:25 Joe Sway pointed that out to me.
00:09:27 And we understand that.
00:09:29 People try to try and wedge--
00:09:31 Everyone's good.
00:09:32 Is Jaylen good?
00:09:33 Everyone's good.
00:09:35 It's a smart thing to do or try to do.
00:09:38 But we've been in this position for many years of guys
00:09:42 trying to divide us and say that one of us should be traded
00:09:46 or one's better than the other.
00:09:49 So it's not our first time at the rodeo.
00:09:51 Jason Kid just said it twice, that you're
00:09:54 the best player on the Celtics.
00:09:56 I was just trying to get your reaction to that.
00:09:58 He likes it.
00:09:59 He likes it.
00:10:00 No reaction.
00:10:01 I don't know.
00:10:05 I think it's a team game.
00:10:08 And we're trying to focus on that.
00:10:10 And everybody has their own opinions.
00:10:18 J-Kid, man.
00:10:22 That's a bet.
00:10:25 I see what he's doing.
00:10:26 Yeah, that's a better point guard right there.
00:10:29 Jaylen Brown is an unbelievable player.
00:10:31 He's an unbelievable player.
00:10:32 Now wait for it.
00:10:34 Very special for us.
00:10:35 What a guy.
00:10:36 What a guy.
00:10:38 Thank you, everybody.
00:10:39 This one's the money one.
00:10:40 Hold on.
00:10:41 Oh, man.
00:10:41 Oh, man.
00:10:42 It's sneaky.
00:10:44 This is the first I'm hearing it.
00:10:46 But I mean, I don't think he's lying.
00:10:48 I think J-D has been aggressive in the last single wedding.
00:10:51 He's been getting to the paint, getting to fit the line.
00:10:55 Also making plays for other people.
00:10:57 And then he's guarding Luca.
00:10:58 He's guarding the best player.
00:11:01 I've been on teams where--
00:11:02 just any team-- where does your best player
00:11:06 have such a heavy load on the offensive end,
00:11:09 and then a heavy-- just as equal heavy ball
00:11:11 on the defensive end.
00:11:12 This is what Jason wanted, man.
00:11:14 It's hard to do, especially against somebody like Luca.
00:11:17 Oh, Drew.
00:11:18 Drew took the bait.
00:11:20 In other words, this guy not only scores,
00:11:23 but he defends our best players, what K-id was saying.
00:11:26 And he does it full court.
00:11:28 He knew one of these players were going to say,
00:11:30 you know what?
00:11:31 New narrative.
00:11:32 It's not a bad take.
00:11:33 Or Jalen's a really good player.
00:11:36 It's great that Tatum and Jalen didn't fall for it.
00:11:38 And what I mean by fall for it is obviously
00:11:39 he's not going to be like, well, I agree with that take.
00:11:42 No.
00:11:42 I mean, again, well, I work really hard.
00:11:45 Well, I really wanted to be a better defender.
00:11:48 Comments like that would have kind of stirred the pot.
00:11:50 But he didn't do it.
00:11:51 He didn't do it.
00:11:51 But Drew didn't get the memo.
00:11:53 That reminds me of the beginning of the year.
00:11:55 He missed the text.
00:11:56 He missed the group text, I guess.
00:11:58 What I love is this type of stuff in the chat.
00:12:00 I'll let you finish, Bobby.
00:12:01 But people say Tatum's going to cook.
00:12:04 Tatum's going to go for 50.
00:12:05 That's what K-id wants.
00:12:08 To force the issue.
00:12:10 Yeah, he wants--
00:12:11 No!
00:12:12 He wants four for 15 or four for 19 Tatum
00:12:16 and just trying to do everything.
00:12:17 Yeah, that's what he wants.
00:12:18 No!
00:12:19 What were you going to say?
00:12:20 That reminded me--
00:12:21 But the coverage is not going to change.
00:12:22 You think the coverage is going to change?
00:12:23 You think K-id's going to defend Jalen
00:12:25 like he's the best player?
00:12:26 Absolutely not.
00:12:27 That reminded me of the beginning of the year.
00:12:29 I asked Drew about, do you need to be close off the court
00:12:33 as stars?
00:12:34 Do you need to have that bond, that friendship
00:12:36 to succeed on the court?
00:12:38 And he just said, I don't know how you can win without it.
00:12:42 I don't know how you can get by without it.
00:12:46 So he played into that then, too.
00:12:48 This is amazing.
00:12:50 And I didn't even notice him laugh
00:12:52 before he delivered that.
00:12:53 So that just goes to show even more.
00:12:55 He knew exactly what he was doing there.
00:12:58 K-id's a weird dude, guys.
00:13:00 I know you both follow this career more than I did
00:13:04 or remember him as a player more than I did.
00:13:06 The whole time he's been coaching,
00:13:08 at least in Dallas the last couple of years
00:13:10 I've been covering the league, every time he's at the podium,
00:13:14 I'm just like, what's up with this guy?
00:13:18 I don't really get his whole demeanor
00:13:20 because he's very soft-spoken.
00:13:23 He tries to come off as this kind of just straight
00:13:27 to the point, plain-spoken guy.
00:13:30 And he'll say something like this,
00:13:32 or he'll kind of make fun of your question.
00:13:34 Every time I ask him, he ends up just kind of snapping back
00:13:36 at me with something before he answers it.
00:13:39 So the interactions with him at the podium
00:13:41 are always a little weird to me because it
00:13:44 seems like he tries to come off as this guy that does not
00:13:46 a lot, too, or he's just very quiet or soft-spoken.
00:13:49 But there's always that extra kind of bite or message behind.
00:13:52 Is this how he was as a player, too?
00:13:54 Nope.
00:13:56 Nope, not really.
00:13:58 But he's-- whatever.
00:14:01 I can see how he comes off a little bit weird.
00:14:04 Well, after his early stints of coaching,
00:14:06 remember, John, he was kind of doing weird stuff.
00:14:09 Remember when he bumped into the ref to try to get a tackle?
00:14:12 Or he tried to--
00:14:12 What was the thing with the coffee?
00:14:14 Did he have somebody spill a drink on him?
00:14:15 Yeah, yeah.
00:14:16 He had someone.
00:14:17 He was like, bump into me, bump into me, or something like that.
00:14:18 Or I think he had the coffee.
00:14:20 But he had his player come--
00:14:21 he was doing wacky stuff.
00:14:22 So then now I feel like maybe he's more low-key.
00:14:25 But this is definitely calculated, though.
00:14:27 It's not like he just--
00:14:28 I mean, has Jalen been playing like the best
00:14:30 player in the Celtics?
00:14:31 Yeah, sure, you can make that case.
00:14:32 But to flat out say that, he knew what he was doing.
00:14:35 He knew that this question would be repeated for the next three,
00:14:38 four, five Celtics players that were going to go up there
00:14:40 or be approached by reporters.
00:14:42 Someone pointed something out to me about--
00:14:47 that Tatum started the war.
00:14:48 Because the other day, he took a dig at the Mavs,
00:14:54 who were saying, well, we don't have guys we have to hide on defense.
00:14:58 And that's a good thing about some of our players.
00:15:00 So someone was kind of guessing that--
00:15:02 That's something Kid would do.
00:15:03 Yeah, that's interesting.
00:15:04 Here's what I will say.
00:15:05 Like, again, hey, Jason, you don't even guard our best players.
00:15:08 And so, yeah.
00:15:09 Yeah, no one believes--
00:15:12 at the very least, it's created a slightly awkward situation.
00:15:15 No one believes that these guys are going to necessarily
00:15:18 be rattled by it or change anything.
00:15:21 Or like, you guys--
00:15:22 Yeah.
00:15:24 It's not like Joe Mazzuolo said it.
00:15:25 So, yeah.
00:15:27 But--
00:15:28 That would have been--
00:15:29 But going back to what we talked about after game one.
00:15:34 And is it a little bit of a Hail Mary, a little desperation, maybe?
00:15:38 We talked about this after game one.
00:15:40 Bobby brought it up, too.
00:15:42 We found it very perplexing that the Mavericks chose that--
00:15:48 if Kid really believes it, he wouldn't have double-tamed them all game.
00:15:51 He would have doubled Brown.
00:15:52 He didn't double Brown.
00:15:53 He double-tamed them.
00:15:54 So it's obviously psychological warfare.
00:15:56 He obviously doesn't actually believe it.
00:15:58 Hey, but Brown gets double teams, too.
00:16:01 Don't forget it.
00:16:02 But the coverage is not the same.
00:16:03 Yeah.
00:16:04 The coverage is not the same.
00:16:05 And for Kid to say the full court defense thing to me is like--
00:16:08 Let me get this out of here.
00:16:09 You don't guard it.
00:16:10 All right, go ahead.
00:16:11 No, let me get the strategy part out there.
00:16:13 We didn't understand that defense, right, Bobby?
00:16:15 Because it seemed-- if I were game planning,
00:16:18 I would say, let Tatum try to cook.
00:16:21 Have him go iso.
00:16:22 Get his match-ups.
00:16:22 For what it's worth, I don't think--
00:16:25 I think the Tatum argument's a little bit off with,
00:16:27 you guys are so stupid.
00:16:28 You don't know what he's doing.
00:16:29 The amount of gravity he has, everything is going around him.
00:16:33 I think that there's absolutely a lot runs through him.
00:16:35 And he did an amazing job driving and kicking all game long.
00:16:38 And the paint was packed.
00:16:40 But when he did try to, or when he did have single coverage,
00:16:46 he wasn't doing an awesome job getting around everybody.
00:16:48 And he wasn't getting to his spots and getting free.
00:16:51 Especially against the centers.
00:16:52 Yeah, he took a lot of contested shots
00:16:54 when he did choose to shoot.
00:16:56 So if it was an either/or, if every time Tatum had one guy
00:16:59 on him and he cooked, you'd be like,
00:17:01 it's a pick-your-poison scenario.
00:17:02 Like, if I double him, he's going to pass.
00:17:05 And if I play him straight up, he's going to torch me.
00:17:07 If I'm rolling the dice on one or the other,
00:17:10 I would roll the dice on letting Tatum beat me outright.
00:17:17 Yeah, it's a tough call because he can go off
00:17:21 in those scenarios.
00:17:22 And I think what is interesting about this comment and the way
00:17:26 that they're playing him is it just adds this pressure on him.
00:17:30 Because I think you said it, John.
00:17:34 It's not that he's selfish and he wants the points
00:17:36 and he wants to be the guy and the MVP and all that stuff.
00:17:40 It's that he thinks that's his job.
00:17:43 He should be doing that.
00:17:45 That's what the team needs from him.
00:17:47 It's mandatory that he does that,
00:17:49 performs at that level for them to be able to succeed.
00:17:53 He sees a parallel between those things.
00:17:55 And I think he acknowledges also that when he's passing
00:17:58 and making those plays, that can also lead to winning.
00:18:01 But I think naturally, who he's been as a player
00:18:03 his whole life, he sees himself as the guy who needs to score,
00:18:09 who needs to put up big numbers, who
00:18:11 needs to be great for the team to get where it needs to go.
00:18:14 So every game where he plays well,
00:18:19 but the stats aren't there, and he doesn't shoot well,
00:18:21 and there's all this pressure on him,
00:18:23 I think adds a little bit of pressure on him to do more.
00:18:27 I think as you start to rattle off,
00:18:30 what is it, eight wins now in a row in these playoffs?
00:18:33 I don't think the fact that he's shooting 40%
00:18:35 or whatever it is in the playoffs at this stage
00:18:38 hurts as much because the results are there.
00:18:41 But say you lose a game and he doesn't shoot well.
00:18:44 Now all of a sudden, it's a different situation
00:18:46 where it's like, oh, I need to be more aggressive.
00:18:49 I need to play better.
00:18:51 I need to be the guy leading this thing
00:18:53 now that we lose this game.
00:18:54 So my point is, you might be right, John,
00:19:00 playing single coverage against them,
00:19:02 daring them to beat you, making them play one on one.
00:19:06 That might be the right approach,
00:19:08 just given his struggles.
00:19:10 But I think putting the extra pressure on him and saying,
00:19:13 you're not even going to shoot for a quarter and a half
00:19:15 to a guy who's a scorer and has been a scorer his whole life,
00:19:19 I think that adds a little bit of pressure on him.
00:19:21 Just like this comment here is trying
00:19:23 to add a little bit more pressure on him.
00:19:26 Oh, Brown's playing better than you.
00:19:27 Brown's carrying this team.
00:19:29 What are you going to do about that?
00:19:32 Josue, do you think Tatum's OK with not
00:19:35 taking a shot for a quarter and a half
00:19:37 the way this defense is forcing him to play?
00:19:40 Yeah, I think so.
00:19:41 I think so, no matter what.
00:19:42 Because I think at the end of the game,
00:19:44 whether it's the final play or the last couple of minutes,
00:19:48 they're going to make a point to get him his touches.
00:19:50 And I think Tatum, it took him a while to learn that.
00:19:52 He used to try to get hot and blow team out
00:19:56 or whatever the case may be.
00:19:59 If he couldn't find his shot or find his offensive rhythm,
00:20:01 he would force his way into having a better shooting
00:20:05 performance instead of trying to find it organically
00:20:07 and trying to get other guys going
00:20:09 and trying to spread out the defense.
00:20:12 I think he had to learn over the last couple of years
00:20:15 that if you make the defense work harder,
00:20:18 shots will come to you and it'll be easier.
00:20:20 Possessions will come easier.
00:20:22 And I think a lot of that is the way he's approached this season.
00:20:25 And of course, having the team that he has,
00:20:27 that's what's best for winning.
00:20:29 And the regular season record and the way
00:20:32 they carry themselves all season long,
00:20:34 I think reinforced that for him.
00:20:36 What do you think, John?
00:20:42 About what specifically?
00:20:45 Do you think there's pressure on Tatum
00:20:47 when he's getting taken out of the game?
00:20:48 I think there's always pressure on Tatum
00:20:50 because I do think he recognizes that despite the fact
00:20:53 that the you-know-ball crowd--
00:20:55 and I think most people will agree--
00:20:57 and the Celtics back him and Joe backs him.
00:20:59 And everybody's like, after the game, Jason was amazing.
00:21:02 And again, we talked about it.
00:21:04 We've joked about potential assists before.
00:21:06 But I really think last game was one of those games
00:21:08 where it was like--
00:21:09 He had 14, right?
00:21:10 He was obviously, obviously like he found everybody.
00:21:16 There was one play where he dumped it off to Kristaps
00:21:19 right at the basket and Kristaps botched the layup.
00:21:21 There were a lot of shots.
00:21:22 Yeah, drew under the basket too and he
00:21:24 hit the side of the backboard.
00:21:25 But also a ton of open threes late
00:21:26 before they really started-- or open threes early
00:21:29 before they started falling.
00:21:30 The Celtics started--
00:21:31 It was a great Tatum passing game.
00:21:33 Oh, he had a great passing game.
00:21:35 All that aside, and he does a lot of other things.
00:21:38 And he works great as a screener and opens things up.
00:21:41 And again, the gravity, the amount of attention he draws
00:21:46 opens up things for everyone else.
00:21:48 Everybody knows all of those things.
00:21:51 That being said, there's no question
00:21:53 that Tatum is sometimes like, why can't I score at will
00:21:58 like I used to?
00:22:00 He wants to know that he's got that 40 in the bag.
00:22:03 I think he'd be happy going 28 and 8
00:22:06 if he knew that if I want to be selfish,
00:22:08 I can get my 40 like that.
00:22:10 But the jump shot hasn't been as good.
00:22:12 The three-point shooting all playoffs has been terrible.
00:22:15 Thankfully, he made the open ones, which was great.
00:22:17 The pull-up shooting hasn't been as good.
00:22:18 He's not getting by people as efficiently.
00:22:21 But again, a lot of it is he's getting more attention.
00:22:23 There's more bodies at the rim.
00:22:25 It's the playoffs, so they're getting away
00:22:28 with a little bit more contact than you
00:22:29 would in the regular season.
00:22:31 You're not getting into the free throw line as much.
00:22:33 All those things factor in as well.
00:22:35 But in his mind, that's who he is, right?
00:22:38 It is true essence.
00:22:40 Like, I ball.
00:22:41 Give me the ball, and I can--
00:22:46 they do mismatch hunt.
00:22:47 And they have guys where they get Tatum the ball,
00:22:51 and he should be able to just do what he wants with those people.
00:22:54 And I think he wants to still be able to do that.
00:22:58 And so it's in there for sure.
00:23:00 I wouldn't say a pressure to do it,
00:23:01 but I think he's cognizant of it.
00:23:03 I think he can contribute a lot of different ways, and you win.
00:23:08 But I think also he's really happy having that 36, 38,
00:23:11 40-point game where he just gets to go off,
00:23:13 because that's kind of part of who he is
00:23:15 and what made him who he is.
00:23:17 And it's that stuff that elevated him
00:23:20 into top five conversation, not the other stuff.
00:23:23 The other stuff's extremely valuable.
00:23:25 But he's a scorer first.
00:23:29 Yeah, and it goes back to that question of who is he.
00:23:32 And to some degree, it's confusing,
00:23:35 because you don't know what you're going to get from him.
00:23:39 You don't know what you're going to get from him on any given
00:23:41 night.
00:23:42 Thanks, thanks, Tatum.
00:23:44 He loves this conversation.
00:23:45 But it's also good to some degree,
00:23:48 because you know you're going to get something.
00:23:50 He just has so much in his arsenal,
00:23:52 so many areas he can impact.
00:23:54 Unlike Luka, who last game you take away his passing,
00:23:58 and he's missing some open shots, some good looks.
00:24:01 And he doesn't have much of an impact on that game at all.
00:24:05 And again, we have to be real.
00:24:09 He had six turnovers to go with the potential assist, too.
00:24:12 It's not great.
00:24:14 I thought Max said it best.
00:24:16 Max said he was good, not great.
00:24:18 Yeah.
00:24:20 So I think that's how you talk about the Tatum game.
00:24:22 This isn't about the Tatum-Brown debate.
00:24:25 It's simply about how do the Celtics come back in game two?
00:24:29 How do the Mavericks come back in game two?
00:24:31 Will the Mavericks do the same thing,
00:24:33 put all the pressure on Tatum?
00:24:35 Hope, is Kit hoping that I'm going to play him
00:24:37 exactly the same way.
00:24:39 And I'm going to double him.
00:24:40 I'm going to see if he can prove to me he's the best player.
00:24:43 Is that going to get in his head at all?
00:24:44 I think that's a foolish strategy.
00:24:46 I do wonder, however, if they switch it up
00:24:48 and they decide to run their coverages a little differently.
00:24:53 They went to a little zone here and there.
00:24:56 Didn't work because Tatum was able to step around some screens,
00:24:59 get a three off.
00:25:01 The single coverage, again, dangerous
00:25:02 because you're lining him up against Luka at that point,
00:25:05 potentially Kyrie.
00:25:07 They did get him a great look in the post against Kyrie.
00:25:09 So I think that's dangerous.
00:25:10 I think you play him the same way.
00:25:12 I think you try to take him out of the game.
00:25:15 And at that point, Joe Sway is right.
00:25:17 Jason's become a lot more comfortable with passing,
00:25:22 not impacting the game with his shooting,
00:25:24 being patient and waiting for his looks,
00:25:26 taking what the defense gives.
00:25:28 I think that he's come a long way with all that stuff.
00:25:31 But again, I think it's hard for anybody
00:25:33 to see three guys in the lane every time you're
00:25:35 trying to drive, not taking a shot for nine minutes
00:25:39 at a time and ending a game with 16 points.
00:25:43 I think that's just--
00:25:45 it's not that he's not willing to do it
00:25:46 or that he doesn't like it.
00:25:48 It's just a challenge because you're the guy
00:25:51 with the ball in your hands.
00:25:52 You're the guy who, again, you think your job is
00:25:56 to lead this team.
00:25:57 And to just see that kind of crowd in front of you
00:26:01 and know that you're not going to be able to score
00:26:03 the way you want to, it's a challenge
00:26:05 because then you've got to make the right play, possession
00:26:07 after possession.
00:26:08 Yeah, you still have to go into the paint
00:26:10 knowing that scoring is not really an option.
00:26:14 And I'm surprised--
00:26:15 And that's why he had six turnovers last game,
00:26:17 the extra thinking he had to do in a lot of those rim reads
00:26:22 and isolation situations.
00:26:24 And he just ended up moving a little too slow.
00:26:26 They really slowed his game down, John, I thought,
00:26:29 in a big way.
00:26:30 And I don't like it.
00:26:31 I don't like it.
00:26:32 But I don't like the hold.
00:26:35 Like when he's holding the ball, I really don't want to--
00:26:38 you don't want to see that.
00:26:41 Kidding.
00:26:42 You want him to attack quickly.
00:26:45 Yeah.
00:26:46 And playing with pace is something
00:26:48 they did great in the first half.
00:26:51 Second half, the Celtics lost.
00:26:53 Lost the second half 47-44.
00:26:55 Yeah, Bobby, it was a 25-point lead.
00:26:58 And then the game got down to--
00:26:59 I was going to say, big picture, though.
00:27:01 --the other side of the team.
00:27:01 And so, no, they didn't.
00:27:02 They didn't.
00:27:03 They definitely lost the third quarter.
00:27:04 Me--
00:27:04 Yeah, I mean, they barely lost the third quarter.
00:27:06 They lost it by a point.
00:27:08 By a point, yeah.
00:27:09 The game was over after the third quarter.
00:27:11 That was it.
00:27:12 They held the line.
00:27:14 They took on a run.
00:27:15 Yeah.
00:27:16 They took on a run, and they held the line.
00:27:17 That was it.
00:27:18 The best Dallas could do was in the third,
00:27:20 and then they ended up shaving a point off the lead.
00:27:22 So I disagree with the idea that they lost the second half.
00:27:25 I think they did what they had to do.
00:27:27 I'm just saying on the scoreboard.
00:27:28 I know, but that doesn't mean that matters.
00:27:30 Dallas never even had a quarter.
00:27:32 They played the best for the last five, six minutes.
00:27:34 It doesn't matter.
00:27:35 They built that lead back up to 25 after Dallas got it to eight.
00:27:38 So Dallas makes a run in the Celtics, put the hammer down,
00:27:41 outscored them by 17 until halfway
00:27:43 through the fourth quarter, and then it was garbage time.
00:27:45 So I disagree with that.
00:27:46 Like, I'm not looking at it like, well, Dallas has--
00:27:49 Dallas can build on the side.
00:27:50 Dallas played five good minutes.
00:27:52 Five-- six good minutes in the third quarter.
00:27:54 That's it.
00:27:56 Yeah, you really didn't like that comment from Bobby.
00:27:58 Damn, John.
00:27:58 No, but I just--
00:27:59 I'm not looking at the numbers.
00:28:00 Dallas played six decent minutes of basketball in this game.
00:28:04 You know, I just don't see--
00:28:05 Right, right.
00:28:06 Well, what I was going to say is they barely scratched over,
00:28:09 what was it, 23 points a quarter?
00:28:11 Like, they couldn't even hit 25 for any of those quarters,
00:28:14 which is why I think they're going to struggle-- continue
00:28:17 to struggle to put up points to score, I don't know, 110.
00:28:20 Can this team put 110 up on the reg?
00:28:22 I don't know.
00:28:23 Against the Celtics defense--
00:28:24 It's going to take a lot more from Tyree.
00:28:25 I'm not quite sure against the Celtics defense
00:28:27 that they'll be able to put up anywhere near 110
00:28:30 at any point in this series.
00:28:31 So that's the scary thing for Dallas right now
00:28:33 is you're so reliant on Luka.
00:28:36 In the bigger picture, you're so reliant on Luka and Kyrie.
00:28:39 And Kyrie couldn't do anything in game one.
00:28:43 No impact on the game whatsoever from Kyrie Irving in that one.
00:28:47 And 11 straight losses against Boston,
00:28:49 but I said this in the hit I did with Noah earlier.
00:28:53 It's one thing to lose 11 straight games to Boston
00:28:57 or at Boston.
00:28:58 It's worse to be a big reason that you've
00:29:01 lost 11 straight games.
00:29:02 Good point.
00:29:03 Yeah.
00:29:03 He was shot horribly.
00:29:05 Can't get where he wants.
00:29:06 I think he got blocked like three times in this game
00:29:10 at different points.
00:29:10 Different defenders, too, able to stop him.
00:29:13 Solomon Pritchard, Porzingis, different guys
00:29:16 outside of his position are the guards he's usually going at.
00:29:20 This is scary if you're Dallas here.
00:29:23 And how much of it is him getting distracted
00:29:25 by the crowd, the environment, going back and forth with fans?
00:29:29 I know Mike Gorman--
00:29:30 I don't know if he was on the radio or what--
00:29:32 said that he was engaging one fan in particular up and down
00:29:36 the court.
00:29:37 There weren't middle fingers flying like Brooklyn
00:29:39 a couple of years ago.
00:29:40 But is he distracted?
00:29:41 And I asked him today, how do you deal with the crowd?
00:29:45 How have you learned to deal with the crowd?
00:29:46 Do you ignore them or do you engage with them?
00:29:49 And he said it's fun to engage with the crowd here.
00:29:51 So he plays that tit for tat.
00:29:55 And does it distract him?
00:29:56 Does it take him out of the game?
00:29:57 Does it hurt his focus that much to where he's performed
00:29:59 this badly here in Boston?
00:30:01 You got to start to think about that.
00:30:03 Well, here's a little bit of Kyrie talking about that, too.
00:30:06 Here's Kyrie talking about what went on here.
00:30:09 I actually am not entirely sure which one this bite is.
00:30:11 But I know he was asked a good bit about how he handled
00:30:14 everything here in game one.
00:30:15 Engaging with fans here in Boston is always fun.
00:30:19 Like I said last week, it's something
00:30:21 I've turned the page over on, too.
00:30:23 But people continue to ask me about it
00:30:25 and what I think about it, which is cool, too.
00:30:27 But yeah, this is what makes sports fun.
00:30:29 This is what makes the stories fun.
00:30:31 Getting a chance to go against a giant like this,
00:30:33 whether it be just talking about the team
00:30:35 or talking about the environment and the fans
00:30:37 and how crazy it can get, this is
00:30:39 what I imagine it being like.
00:30:41 Getting to this stage again, earning our way
00:30:43 to be here with my teammates, and being
00:30:46 able to put our best foot forward,
00:30:47 going against the best of the best.
00:30:48 That's all you dream of.
00:30:49 Everything else is just extracurricular.
00:30:51 Celtics just blow up dolls of you outside the arena.
00:30:55 There's a lot of things going on.
00:30:56 What else is there?
00:30:58 There's some things that I probably
00:31:00 can't get into right now.
00:31:02 Again, I've been able to grow over the past few years
00:31:05 to put basketball in perspective.
00:31:07 This is an incredible experience that I
00:31:09 get to live out for quite a few years of my life.
00:31:11 I'm going to learn a lot of lessons
00:31:13 that I'm going to apply to life after this.
00:31:16 I failed miserably, while also not
00:31:19 knowing how to compartmentalize or accept the emotions that
00:31:23 come with failure.
00:31:23 And also being on the successful side,
00:31:26 didn't know how to handle that either.
00:31:28 So the past few years have been about that growth perspective
00:31:31 for me, and learning how to handle myself
00:31:33 in situations and circumstances that
00:31:35 are going to be more beneficial for me to learn now,
00:31:39 than learning it when I'm 38 years old,
00:31:41 and I'm looking back at my career,
00:31:43 and I don't even know how to celebrate that.
00:31:45 I don't expect to be celebrated by everybody.
00:31:48 I'm going to still be aware that a lot of people
00:31:52 want to see me fail.
00:31:53 But again, I think I pay attention more to the way
00:31:56 that I'm celebrated from people that love me unconditionally.
00:31:59 And I go home and I have a peace of mind.
00:32:00 And thinking about my time in Boston,
00:32:03 I could go down a myriad of things
00:32:04 that none of you in here know that I was dealing with.
00:32:07 I don't think a lot of people would care.
00:32:08 I think a few people would care and want to hear about it.
00:32:10 And I would leave that space open in the future
00:32:13 if you ever wanted to hear about it.
00:32:14 But putting in perspective, it's just
00:32:16 the blow-up dolls, all the remarks that are getting said.
00:32:19 That's magical.
00:32:21 When I leave out of here and I walk around Boston,
00:32:24 I don't hear a lot of the things that I
00:32:25 hear when I'm playing on the court.
00:32:27 There's a lot of mutual respect.
00:32:29 There's a lot of eye-to-eye communication
00:32:31 that's built on just being human.
00:32:34 And they appreciate the things I do off the floor as well.
00:32:37 There are a lot of Celtics fans out there that still--
00:32:39 Imagine having to transcribe this crap.
00:32:41 --when I'm on the street walking around, which I do.
00:32:45 He walks around.
00:32:45 I get a lot of embrace.
00:32:46 I take pictures.
00:32:47 My dad is here.
00:32:48 He played at Boston University.
00:32:50 Not once have I seen any of those pictures on social media.
00:32:51 So there has to be respect there.
00:32:52 Because if anything happens to my family while I'm here,
00:32:54 then it goes way beyond the game.
00:32:56 And I don't forget things either.
00:32:58 Somebody threw something at me here while I was here.
00:33:01 I've heard it all.
00:33:03 Nobody asked me how I felt after that
00:33:05 and why it could be a little bit of a traumatic response
00:33:08 when I'm back in this environment
00:33:09 after somebody does something like that.
00:33:11 So things have changed since then.
00:33:13 I've been able to accept what I cannot change,
00:33:16 but also change the way that I look at things
00:33:19 to be more positive.
00:33:20 So this is fun for me, man.
00:33:21 This is healthy.
00:33:22 I'm glad that I could be up on this stage speaking
00:33:24 authentically and then also go home and be at peace.
00:33:27 Is that the longest answer in press conference history?
00:33:32 Bobby, that was every single effing game when he was here.
00:33:37 I'm not even exaggerating.
00:33:38 Win or loss.
00:33:39 Man, I remember one time, I think one answer--
00:33:43 I want to say one answer one time.
00:33:44 I counted over 900 words.
00:33:46 I'm not even kidding you.
00:33:47 I think it was the LeBron one when
00:33:49 you talked about calling LeBron.
00:33:50 And he just went on and on.
00:33:51 But hey, listen, man.
00:33:54 Is the crowd in his head, Josue?
00:33:56 I shouldn't have said transcribe that trash or whatever.
00:33:58 I shouldn't have said it like that.
00:33:59 But what I mean by that is because it's just so wordy.
00:34:01 And yes, I do believe that, Bobby.
00:34:03 I think it's affecting him.
00:34:06 It is.
00:34:06 Of course it is.
00:34:08 That makes me long for ace and tatum press conferences.
00:34:11 My god.
00:34:12 When you couple it with the Celtics' defense
00:34:15 and him just not being able to find his rhythm at all,
00:34:18 yeah, it makes it 10 times worse.
00:34:21 And it's the NBA finals.
00:34:22 I mean, he can walk around smiling as much as he wants.
00:34:26 But I think deep down inside, he's like,
00:34:28 I have to go off tomorrow.
00:34:30 This team really needs them to.
00:34:33 They don't win without it.
00:34:34 They don't win without it.
00:34:35 There's no way this team can beat the Celtics
00:34:38 without Kyrie dropping at least 20-something points.
00:34:41 Which is very possible.
00:34:42 Hold on.
00:34:42 We're going to continue the Kyrie discussion, Bobby.
00:34:44 And I want to get everything that you want to say here.
00:34:46 But we are a tad overdue.
00:34:47 I do want to tell everybody at home about prize picks
00:34:51 if you want to get involved here.
00:34:52 It is the number one fantasy sports app.
00:34:55 More than 5 million members.

00:35:01 And everybody right now, of course,
00:35:03 is watching the NBA finals.
00:35:04 So you don't believe Kyrie is going to bring it in game two?
00:35:07 When you go in there, you pick more or less on two player
00:35:10 stats.
00:35:11 Pick less.
00:35:12 Get on it.
00:35:13 Pick less on Kyrie.
00:35:18 Two or more players, you can win up to 100 times your cash.
00:35:20 It's that easy.
00:35:23 Lots of promotions.
00:35:24 Lots of different options here.
00:35:25 And again, a lot of different types of stats.
00:35:28 It's not just all scoring here that you could get in on
00:35:31 if you think the game's going to go a different way.
00:35:34 You can get involved there with three point attempts,
00:35:37 and turnovers, or whatever have you.
00:35:39 So again, NBA finals is one thing.
00:35:41 When the finals are over, jump to WNBA if you want.
00:35:44 There's a ton of stuff going on there and a lot of eyeballs.
00:35:48 Kaitlyn Clark, Angel Reese, a lot of fun names
00:35:51 in that rookie class joining along.
00:35:53 Some of the greats there who are already playing,
00:35:55 and Wilson and Stewart.
00:35:56 So WNBA is all over.
00:35:59 You can get that and get in on that action and prize picks
00:36:03 as well.
00:36:04 And all you have to do to sign up is head over here

00:36:22 Pick more.
00:36:23 Pick less.
00:36:24 It is that easy.
00:36:25 And also, you want to go to the game.
00:36:27 You got to go.
00:36:28 You got to go.
00:36:30 They might not come back, Bobby.
00:36:31 That might be it.
00:36:32 Game two might be your last chance
00:36:33 to see the Boston Celtics.
00:36:34 It's possible, right?
00:36:37 I think there'll be a chance.
00:36:38 I think there'll be a chance.
00:36:39 Just go with it.
00:36:39 Just go with it, OK?
00:36:40 Say it's possible, Bobby.
00:36:42 It's possible is all I'm saying, right?
00:36:44 Is it possible?
00:36:45 Anything is possible.
00:36:46 The Celtics will go 80 and 20 if they sweep this.
00:36:50 It's possible.
00:36:51 So--
00:36:51 So it's possible, Horton.
00:36:52 Game time makes it-- that's all I wanted.
00:36:54 Game time makes it getting NBA tickets, finals tickets,
00:36:57 faster and easier.

00:37:17 They're in Boston?
00:37:18 They sold this thing out a long time ago.
00:37:22 You needed to go to game time to get Savannah Banana tickets
00:37:25 tonight.
00:37:26 That's how-- that was real.
00:37:29 So yes, everything.
00:37:31 And again, you've got the summer coming up.
00:37:33 A huge concert slate.

00:38:04 Create an account.
00:38:05 Use the code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase.
00:38:08 Let's get back to the Kyrie stuff, Bobby.
00:38:10 You were going to discuss him and his comments
00:38:14 and his Kyreness.
00:38:17 Yeah, so going back to the interview Gary and I did
00:38:21 with him in March, where he talked about turning the page
00:38:26 and moving past that and the fans have a right to boo,
00:38:28 that was a real turning point, I thought,
00:38:31 in the relationship or the story at the very least,
00:38:34 where it seemed like you might slam the book on the story
00:38:40 itself.
00:38:41 And this might have come to an end.
00:38:43 And again, I still feel like atmosphere-wise,
00:38:45 I don't know if you agree, Josue,
00:38:47 that this still felt more like a finals game.
00:38:51 I think the crowd was more into the finals
00:38:53 and what the Celtics were doing rather than the Kyrie element.
00:38:57 It just wasn't the whole Kyrie show
00:38:59 like it was for that Brooklyn game a couple of years ago.
00:39:02 So it's diminishing.
00:39:04 As this series goes on, I think this
00:39:05 is going to be less and less a thing,
00:39:07 even though it's still been a big thing so far.
00:39:09 One of the commenters just said it.
00:39:12 Ollie really has to say to end this in a lot of people's mind,
00:39:15 I think.
00:39:16 Maybe it won't, because I think it's just become such a--
00:39:19 you said it after the last game, John--
00:39:21 an expectation that you have to boo him,
00:39:23 you have to do this whole thing.
00:39:24 Like I said, it was perfunctory.
00:39:25 I didn't feel that it was passion behind it,
00:39:27 because he's been losing.
00:39:28 Not only has he gone and the narrative
00:39:30 has changed since Kyrie left, but he's losing.
00:39:34 You almost don't-- he'd have to beat you
00:39:37 in a couple of games that matter for that hatred to go back up.
00:39:39 It's like Roger Goodell.
00:39:40 It's like some of these guys who--
00:39:41 Exactly.
00:39:42 That's exactly what I was going to say.
00:39:43 He goes out there and wins, and then he does it again
00:39:45 or whatever.
00:39:46 He just goes out there.
00:39:47 Right.
00:39:48 I don't think it would be as--
00:39:49 well, it's already-- yeah, I agree with you, Bobby.
00:39:51 It's not like the last time he was here,
00:39:52 but it's still every time he touched the ball,
00:39:54 he gets the boos.
00:39:55 I heard maybe one or two FU Kyries last time.
00:39:58 We heard like seven.
00:39:59 So yeah, it's not as strong as it used to be,
00:40:02 but it's still going to linger because he
00:40:06 hasn't beaten them yet.
00:40:07 And he hasn't even put together--
00:40:09 I don't think that's what it--
00:40:10 I don't think it's--
00:40:12 I think he put together a huge performance.
00:40:13 If you drop, I don't know, 30-something, and the Mavs win,
00:40:16 and by the time the series comes back around for game five,
00:40:19 maybe you still hear some boos, but it
00:40:21 won't be as vibrant, you know?
00:40:24 But at the same time--
00:40:24 I don't think it's about the fact that he hasn't beat them.
00:40:26 I think it's--
00:40:27 But also, but at the same time, Bobby,
00:40:28 even if he goes out there and were to apologize,
00:40:30 do you really think that it would stop?
00:40:32 That's where I'm stuck.
00:40:33 Yeah.
00:40:34 Too much time has passed.
00:40:35 If he came out and said, listen, said
00:40:39 I was going to resign here, didn't keep my word,
00:40:43 sorry about that, enjoyed my time here, it was great,
00:40:48 let's move past this.
00:40:50 I don't know if that works, like you said, Josue,
00:40:53 because it's just so ingrained at this point.
00:40:56 And John mentioned it.
00:40:57 It's perfunctory.
00:40:58 It's just part of the package at this point.
00:41:02 Whenever Kyrie's on the other marquee,
00:41:05 it's just going to be boos and FU,
00:41:07 and it's just going to be t-shirts with the clown nose
00:41:09 and whatever else.
00:41:10 Just like, how long ago was the Flakegate, John?
00:41:13 But every time Roger Goodell steps foot on Foxborough,
00:41:17 it's going to be boos.
00:41:17 Yeah, but you know what, though?
00:41:19 That'll never be forgiven.
00:41:20 Never.
00:41:22 No.
00:41:22 Never.
00:41:24 No, way more than--
00:41:25 Kyrie left, and you thought it was bad,
00:41:28 and it ended up not being bad, and they were better for it.
00:41:30 The Goodell stuff, never, ever, ever going away.
00:41:35 Ever.
00:41:36 I don't know if this is ever going to go away.
00:41:38 At least totally.
00:41:39 I think it does a little, because eventually you just
00:41:41 kind of stop caring.
00:41:43 But it's been a long time.
00:41:45 It's been five years, and it's still not gone.
00:41:48 But it's the finals, Bobby.
00:41:49 You think the finals is too big?
00:41:52 Yeah, this is Boston, man.
00:41:55 We'll see by the end of this series.
00:41:56 First-round matchup, maybe.
00:41:58 So I disagreed with this from the get-go.
00:42:00 And again, this is my opinion.
00:42:01 A lot of people did their "rate the villains" thing
00:42:04 and had Kyrie near the top.
00:42:05 I don't see it at all.
00:42:08 I think I would have--
00:42:09 Wait, in all sports?
00:42:11 Among the greatest Boston sports villains,
00:42:14 I think that Kyrie was--
00:42:15 he sucked.
00:42:16 What's your Mount Rushmore?
00:42:18 It's hard to say, because you've got to go back in time.
00:42:20 And I'm going to boomer myself out if I do.
00:42:23 But I mean, just in terms of recent memory,
00:42:26 I place Goodell a good bit above that.
00:42:27 He's like Will Chamberlain.
00:42:28 No, I'm just kidding.
00:42:29 A good bit above that.
00:42:30 A-Rod's on there, right?
00:42:31 Ben Drieth.
00:42:33 Drieth, actually.
00:42:34 A-Rod.
00:42:34 A-Rod's up there.
00:42:36 A-Rod was such a bigger villain than Kyrie.
00:42:40 Couldn't stand him.
00:42:43 I would say Mariano, but after he came back
00:42:45 and they cheered him, it kind of just went away altogether.
00:42:47 And then he retired.
00:42:48 Everyone gave him his flowers.
00:42:50 Mariano Rivera, he was a big villain for a while.
00:42:52 But after the Sox won in '04, it was like, eh,
00:42:58 you're not that scary.
00:43:00 And hey, thanks for blowing those games,
00:43:02 because that helped us win.
00:43:04 So he got the sarcastic remark.
00:43:06 And then he smiled.
00:43:06 He tipped his cap.
00:43:07 He smiled.
00:43:08 And it was like the Red Sox fans and Mariano Rivera,
00:43:11 they settled their differences right then and there.
00:43:15 But yeah, I guess Goodell will be up there for sure.
00:43:18 But A-Rod will probably be at the top of the list,
00:43:20 at least for my era.
00:43:21 It's amazing for how good he is and how good
00:43:24 he's been all year.
00:43:25 He's had an excellent season.
00:43:27 He doesn't scare you at all.
00:43:29 You just throw a guy on him, throw some length on him,
00:43:32 and boom, he's out of the game.
00:43:34 It's unreal.
00:43:34 And so that's--
00:43:35 [INAUDIBLE]
00:43:36 Yeah, as we start to forecast the rest of the series
00:43:39 and where this is going, it's impossible
00:43:43 to imagine that Dallas is going to get back in this
00:43:46 unless he turns it around.
00:43:47 And that's why I'm interested in what it looks like when it turns
00:43:49 to Dallas, John.
00:43:51 You know, a series never starts until it flips sides.
00:43:53 It doesn't seem like he can perform.
00:43:55 I'm not-- you know why?
00:43:57 Because the Celtics are road proof.
00:43:59 And so I don't give a crap.
00:44:00 Well, no, I think Bobby means, like, do you get that epic--
00:44:03 It won't be a distraction.
00:44:04 --the epic Kyrie performance in the series.
00:44:06 It probably happens in Dallas.
00:44:07 I think playing on this stage against this team
00:44:12 and the narratives that will follow
00:44:13 is the distraction more so than the crowd itself.
00:44:15 So I don't really--
00:44:17 I don't think it's like the safety of Dallas.
00:44:19 Because you go back to Dallas down 0-2 and you suck,
00:44:21 now Dallas hates you too.
00:44:23 It's worse to be hated there.
00:44:24 If you're like the re--
00:44:26 as you said, Bobby, it was an excellent point.
00:44:28 He's been the reason why his teams have lost a lot of games
00:44:31 against the Celtics.
00:44:32 He's not just losing.
00:44:34 He's the reason why.
00:44:35 He's underperforming.
00:44:36 He's choking badly in these games,
00:44:39 disappearing, shrinking.
00:44:40 And he did it again in game one.
00:44:42 And yeah, look, you want to talk about open looks?
00:44:44 Yeah, he had some threes he could have knocked down.
00:44:47 His-- the first half, every look he had was a challenge.
00:44:51 So it's not exactly it.
00:44:53 Real quick before we move on, I want to let everybody know,
00:44:55 merchandise is available at the shop.
00:44:58 You can use the code 3more20%--
00:45:00 Get that merch.
00:45:01 --on s.com.
00:45:02 Here's a message from Jimmy Toscano.
00:45:04 All right, guys and girls.
00:45:06 It's time.
00:45:08 Years in the making, months in the lab.
00:45:10 Yo.
00:45:11 It might be spring or summer, but it is definitely
00:45:14 hard hat season.
00:45:16 Boxes are out.
00:45:17 I really hope these aren't eggs.
00:45:19 We're going to do an unboxing right now.
00:45:23 First look live at the hard hat.
00:45:26 What's his booties on?
00:45:28 Don't worry about it.
00:45:29 Don't worry about it.
00:45:30 What's the medical emergency going on?
00:45:32 I might be the first one to get one.
00:45:34 I know that there's a bunch floating around.
00:45:36 Watch this one be hard.
00:45:37 Watch this one be tricky.
00:45:38 These-- let me get a picture.
00:45:40 I can't open this box.
00:45:42 Yo, why didn't you get a night--
00:45:43 Jimmy versus the box.
00:45:46 More compelling than Celtic's badge.
00:45:47 Jimmy versus the box.
00:45:49 Snap one anywhere.
00:45:50 If you do order one--
00:45:51 Get all the edges, man.
00:45:52 --that's for sure.
00:45:53 Get all the--
00:45:53 --it is protected.
00:45:54 This is a struggle right now.
00:45:56 We don't know which way to go.
00:45:57 --need to--
00:45:58 --it's off.
00:45:58 --just one that's going to have like--
00:46:00 You know you can't be recorded either.
00:46:01 That's hilarious.
00:46:04 OK.
00:46:05 Few things in here.
00:46:06 I got myself a little--
00:46:07 a couple things in here.
00:46:09 Got myself a little care package.
00:46:13 This is a mug.
00:46:14 I'm not going to go spend 20 minutes trying to undo that.
00:46:18 Check out the garden report.
00:46:20 Hey, that team's fire.
00:46:22 Ooh, this is nice.
00:46:25 I know these guys.
00:46:26 Few good looking faces here.
00:46:28 These are for sale in the merch store.
00:46:30 Be wearing this tomorrow for game two.
00:46:34 Oh, baby.
00:46:35 Last but not least, oh, it's gear.
00:46:40 It's gear indeed.
00:46:41 Hey.
00:46:42 Yo, that hat is--
00:46:43 --that I've been telling everybody about.
00:46:44 --that card has fire.
00:46:45 We got the Shamrock.
00:46:47 Hard hats, lunch pails, steel toe boots.
00:46:51 And then the garden report logo.
00:46:53 You can't go without that.
00:46:54 Make sure everybody knows.
00:46:55 Just so you guys know, this is a real hard hat.
00:46:58 We've got the interior lining.
00:46:59 This is nice and soft right here, too.
00:47:01 This is this--
00:47:02 Now I see why it took so long.
00:47:04 --hat in the back.
00:47:04 Those are nice.
00:47:05 It's the real thing.
00:47:06 --looks to me like a glove.
00:47:08 Just like that, I'm ready for work, ready for Sunday,
00:47:11 ready for game two.
00:47:13 Jimmy's rocking that at the bar.
00:47:14 These are going to be on sale for game two after the game.
00:47:18 We have, again, it's a limited amount, guys.
00:47:20 So if you want one, got to be quick with it.
00:47:23 Very limited amount.
00:47:24 We're taking it out.
00:47:25 This is a great Jimmy for a loan.
00:47:27 You can imagine these aren't just hanging around.
00:47:29 Also, if you're watching this video
00:47:31 and you happen to watch it soon after I post,
00:47:34 we do have a few that we just released
00:47:36 for sale in the merch store.
00:47:37 Is that the wheel in front of them?
00:47:39 Yeah, I think so.
00:47:40 It's in the merch store.
00:47:41 That's not the URL.
00:47:42 Turn this around.
00:47:44 If we start right now, only a handful, I think.
00:47:46 I'm trying to tell.
00:47:47 Is he on the move?
00:47:48 Pretty sure he can still work, guys.
00:47:50 He's docked.
00:47:52 He's docked.
00:47:53 Well done, Jimmy.
00:47:54 He is docked.
00:47:55 So check it out if you guys want to.
00:47:57 And why not bring the guy on?
00:47:59 Oh.
00:48:00 Why not?
00:48:01 There he is.
00:48:03 Wow.
00:48:04 How's the boat, Jimmy?
00:48:07 Have you taken that thing off?
00:48:08 It's Jimmy Otweek, everybody.
00:48:09 It's Jimmy Otweek.
00:48:10 Can you guys hear me?
00:48:11 Yeah, you sound great, man.
00:48:14 Are you docked?
00:48:14 Just in time.
00:48:15 You're in the water and you're just docked on a boat.
00:48:17 You got like a half hour before you lose the sun light.
00:48:19 This is perfect.
00:48:19 I want to thank everybody for financing this boat purchase
00:48:22 with the hard hat sales.
00:48:23 [LAUGHTER]
00:48:28 You got a quote, David.
00:48:30 I got to say, I never expected it, but man.
00:48:34 Thanks for the Garden Report crew.
00:48:36 Unbelievable.
00:48:38 Garden Report family.
00:48:39 It's Garden Report family.
00:48:40 I want to thank you guys for sticking through that video.
00:48:44 I went 12 rounds with that box.
00:48:46 How mad were you?
00:48:47 I went 12 rounds with that box.
00:48:49 I will say this--
00:48:50 The best part about it, though, Jimmy,
00:48:52 you know you can't re-record it.
00:48:53 So that's hilarious.
00:48:54 You had to put the whole thing out.
00:48:56 I was in way too deep.
00:48:57 I was like, somebody end this right now.
00:49:00 This is turning into a disaster.
00:49:02 But here they are.
00:49:03 We've all been there.
00:49:04 Here they are.
00:49:06 They are real.
00:49:08 You can toss these things, or you can--
00:49:10 I wouldn't say that.
00:49:11 You could probably toss a brick at it.
00:49:13 I wouldn't wear it.
00:49:15 Don't do that, guys.
00:49:16 But here you go.
00:49:17 Here's the logo right here.
00:49:19 I can't figure out what I'm doing.
00:49:21 Here's the logo, a little shamrock,
00:49:24 and the saying that everyone knows very well.
00:49:28 Great quality.
00:49:29 I took it on the boat today.
00:49:32 Held up.
00:49:34 That it's boat-- it's seaworthy?
00:49:37 Just in case.
00:49:39 It was pretty choppy out there.
00:49:40 John, it was pretty choppy out there.
00:49:42 You'd be surprised what comes your way.
00:49:45 Let's go, Jimmy.
00:49:46 Show us a few.
00:49:47 Come on.
00:49:47 There's a handful for sale.
00:49:51 There's a handful for sale right now on the merch store.
00:49:55 Oh, you restocked?
00:49:56 We're hoping to restock.
00:49:58 We're hoping to restock for tomorrow night.
00:50:00 But I know that a few--
00:50:01 They didn't cover box opening at homeschool.
00:50:04 We never got there.
00:50:05 We never got that far.
00:50:07 Yeah.
00:50:07 I was just glad I didn't stab myself
00:50:10 trying to get that thing open.
00:50:11 Yeah, you were doing the frustration thing.
00:50:13 If you do order one, it's not going
00:50:16 to be in a box that says eggs.
00:50:17 It's actually going to be in a package.
00:50:20 I think it's going to be in an envelope.
00:50:22 What's up with that?
00:50:23 You got a special package?
00:50:24 It'll come in bubble wrap, but it'll
00:50:27 be a lot easier to open for those people who
00:50:29 don't want to struggle like I do.
00:50:30 Have you gotten the mug out yet?
00:50:33 I'm going to dedicate an hour to that later, maybe tomorrow.
00:50:36 That thing was really bubble wrapped.
00:50:38 But everything looked pretty good.
00:50:41 The t-shirt was really nice, too.
00:50:43 Well, Jimmy, we got your merch thoughts.
00:50:46 Let's get your basketball thoughts.
00:50:47 Were you following along today with what was going on?
00:50:49 Only briefly.
00:50:51 It's hard out there in the open seas to keep up,
00:50:53 but I did come back to it.
00:50:56 I think Jason Kidd, master troll.
00:50:59 You guys already know my thoughts on Jason Kidd.
00:51:01 He knows what he's doing.
00:51:03 That was my take prior to this whole little spiel
00:51:05 that he went on.
00:51:06 I know what he's doing.
00:51:07 He's trying to rile up the team.
00:51:09 He's trying to pin the two best players against each other.
00:51:12 It's not going to work.
00:51:13 It's just not going to work.
00:51:14 The Celtics are too close.
00:51:15 They can smell it.
00:51:16 They can taste it.
00:51:17 Nothing Jason Kidd can do to stop this Celtics team.
00:51:21 He should be more focused on his players
00:51:23 than on the Celtics players, to be quite frank,
00:51:25 because they quite simply don't have enough talent over there,
00:51:31 as we saw in game one.
00:51:32 I don't really care what they try to do
00:51:34 or what Kidd tries to do.
00:51:36 Maybe Dallas can sneak a game out.
00:51:38 It's not out of the realm of possibilities.
00:51:40 But as long as this Celtics team focuses on themselves,
00:51:43 plays team basketball, Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown
00:51:48 continue to play off each other and not do the my turn,
00:51:52 your turn that we used to pull our hair out over, John,
00:51:56 we're not seeing that as much.
00:51:57 We're not seeing that really at all.
00:51:59 It's really whether the Mavericks
00:52:00 try to bait them into it.
00:52:01 So let's talk about this.
00:52:03 And we're going to wrap up in a little bit.
00:52:04 First to the floor is coming up late.
00:52:06 We started late, so we're coming up next.
00:52:08 We're holding them up a little bit.
00:52:09 So there is more basketball talk.
00:52:11 But what do you guys think Dallas does different?
00:52:13 Let's get to the basketball talk.
00:52:15 Do you think Dallas comes--
00:52:17 so here's the thing.
00:52:18 When you're the better team, you just do what you do.
00:52:21 And then you just-- that's what you do.
00:52:24 Celtics, I mean, had to figure out how they were-- they're
00:52:27 just like, I like our team.
00:52:29 I like our defense.
00:52:30 We'll play them straight up.
00:52:31 And that's what they did.
00:52:32 And nothing fancy, no wrinkles.
00:52:35 They just did it extremely well.
00:52:37 Now Dallas has to decide, well, did our shots just not fall?
00:52:43 Do we just need to execute better?
00:52:45 Or do we go about things exactly the same way?
00:52:47 Do we defend them the same way?
00:52:49 Like, they got a ton of threes.
00:52:51 The team that shoots more threes wins the majority of the games
00:52:53 as we've seen throughout the season
00:52:55 and throughout the playoffs here.
00:52:58 Do they try to limit them?
00:52:59 Do they run them off the line?
00:53:00 Do they change how they--
00:53:01 like, does Dallas have to change up to beat the Celtics?
00:53:04 Or do they go back into it and say,
00:53:05 no, we're just going to do it.
00:53:06 But this time, Kyrie and Lucas shots are going to fall.
00:53:08 And we'll defend them a little better.
00:53:10 Anyone see big wrinkles?
00:53:15 I think you might see a Miami-style response there.
00:53:17 That's what I mean.
00:53:18 Do they slow it up a little bit?
00:53:19 I think what he did in game one was a slow tactic with Tatum.
00:53:24 Yeah, but I'm talking all kinds.
00:53:25 They got to catch up in terms of the amount of threes
00:53:27 they're getting up.
00:53:28 It was a runaway win for the Celtics, 42-27, I think,
00:53:33 in three-point attempts.
00:53:34 And you're just not able to keep up with that.
00:53:37 It's going to require, this Jimmy says, 43s.
00:53:41 So I think that's going to be a big part of it.
00:53:45 But like I said, John, I don't know
00:53:46 how you feel about this, Jimmy.
00:53:47 I would keep doubling Tatum.
00:53:49 I would keep showing Tatum those crowds because you just
00:53:52 want to frustrate him.
00:53:53 You want to make it difficult. He turned the ball over
00:53:55 six times.
00:53:56 That was a win in that sense.
00:53:57 And you took him out of the game.
00:53:59 And I think if you're Dallas, you're
00:54:02 OK with Hauser beating you, with Horford beating you.
00:54:06 This is a lie, by the way.
00:54:07 Nobody believes this.
00:54:08 This is a lie.
00:54:09 It's not on Amazon.
00:54:11 We made it.
00:54:12 Yeah, you guys don't know the blood, sweat, tears.
00:54:15 You know how many phone calls I had to jump on?
00:54:17 No, Jimmy, we can't go back.
00:54:18 We can't do 40% merch on the back half of the show.
00:54:20 We did it.
00:54:21 We can't keep doing it.
00:54:22 Don't bait me.
00:54:23 We just ran your profile.
00:54:24 I baited you and you took the bait.
00:54:26 We just ran your--
00:54:27 We got to give the guys some basketball before we wrap it.
00:54:30 What would you change, Jimmy?
00:54:32 If I'm Dallas?
00:54:33 Yeah.
00:54:35 I mean, I think Dallas needs to focus on getting-- again,
00:54:39 this is what I said before the series started.
00:54:41 Their two best players need to get in more ice on one.
00:54:44 I thought this was going to be more of an isolation type
00:54:45 series, but credit to the Celtics.
00:54:47 They're not falling into that trap, at least not yet.
00:54:49 But I think Dallas does.
00:54:50 I mean, Luca did his 30, but Kyrie
00:54:53 fell off the map in game one.
00:54:54 You get 30 or around 30 from him,
00:54:57 it might be a different type of a game.
00:54:59 The Mavericks are able to keep it a little bit closer.
00:55:01 I think they need to figure out a way to defend for Zingas.
00:55:03 I mean, hopefully they'll be a little bit more ready for him
00:55:05 now.
00:55:05 They know what he's capable of.
00:55:07 Don't put guards on him.
00:55:08 Yeah.
00:55:09 Seriously.
00:55:09 They know that he's not going to be a decoy
00:55:11 and that he's going to just play--
00:55:13 he's going to float around the three-point line
00:55:14 and just try to draw defenders out to him.
00:55:17 This guy can actually play.
00:55:18 And they're going to have to be more physical.
00:55:19 I hate to say it.
00:55:20 I don't want them to be, but they're going to have to be.
00:55:22 Luca's a huge guard.
00:55:24 They've got physical guys.
00:55:25 He was horrible.
00:55:26 He was.
00:55:27 And so I don't know.
00:55:28 They kind of got punched in the mouth in that first quarter.
00:55:30 And they never-- yeah, they made a little bit of run
00:55:32 in the third quarter there.
00:55:33 But it just felt like once the Celtics--
00:55:35 once Porzingis sort of jolted that life into the team
00:55:39 and into the arena, it felt like the Mavericks were just
00:55:43 two steps behind the rest of that game.
00:55:45 So I think a better start from them,
00:55:48 again, focusing more on getting Luca and Kyrie in isolation
00:55:50 and switches.
00:55:51 I mean, I know Porzingis played well.
00:55:53 But is he the type of defender that's
00:55:55 going to be able to stay in front of a Luca or a Kyrie?
00:55:58 Is Horford going to be able to keep up with it?
00:55:59 So that's kind of their advantage.
00:56:00 We know that Holiday and White are
00:56:02 going to do their thing on the defensive end.
00:56:04 We know what Jalen Brown's capable of.
00:56:05 And Tatum, when he wants to be, is a great defender as well.
00:56:10 So it's not like they have a platter of options
00:56:13 to choose from to beat this Celtics team.
00:56:15 They're going to have to really just dig deep.
00:56:17 And their stars are going to have to play like superstars.
00:56:19 If this Celtics team plays good, they're hard to beat.
00:56:23 Dallas has to play great to beat this Celtics team.
00:56:26 And it was really not even close to that type of performance
00:56:30 in game one.
00:56:31 The supporting cast was nowhere to be found.
00:56:33 Everyone's telling me, oh, don't sleep on TJ Washington.
00:56:36 Don't sleep on this guy and that guy.
00:56:38 Well, they're the ones sleeping.
00:56:40 Players themselves are sleeping.
00:56:41 I'm not sleeping.
00:56:43 Yeah.
00:56:43 No, no, I agree with all of that.
00:56:45 I don't think we're going to see Hardy getting switched off,
00:56:48 unfortunately, because we did it so many times in game one
00:56:51 or any of the other sides.
00:56:52 Undersized players, because they know that KP, yes, he still
00:56:57 has it.
00:56:58 The rust that they saw in game one wasn't much.
00:57:02 So I think that that's going to be a big adjustment for them.
00:57:04 But also, most importantly, one other thing I want to bring up
00:57:09 is, yeah, getting up as many threes as possible.
00:57:11 I don't know how you try to get Hardaway or Keebler going.
00:57:14 One of those guys or both of those guys,
00:57:16 but they have to get more three-pointers.
00:57:19 And then the top thing, I think, which
00:57:21 is most important for them to win is getting Kyrie going.
00:57:23 And how you do that is a lot of off-the-ball action stuff,
00:57:27 backdoor cuts.
00:57:28 I don't know.
00:57:28 I think they're going to try to do stuff like that.
00:57:29 High percentage looks, because a lot of times
00:57:31 you just couldn't get to the paint.
00:57:33 And the Southern's defense had a lot to do with that.
00:57:34 And I think Jason Kidd's going to make sure
00:57:36 that somehow try to ease that block throughout, especially
00:57:40 with the way the game started, if you guys remember.
00:57:42 It was just everything happened so fast with KP going off
00:57:45 and the crowd getting into it and this humongous lead.
00:57:49 Kyrie didn't have a chance to find his rhythm.
00:57:51 I just felt like they were overwhelmed.
00:57:52 So they're going to try to obviously make sure
00:57:55 that doesn't happen again, because KP
00:57:57 was a big part of that.
00:57:58 But also, they need Kyrie more than ever, honestly.
00:58:01 I mean, it's a good chance they're
00:58:03 going to go back to Dallas down 2-0
00:58:05 if he doesn't put up a terrific performance, if you will.
00:58:09 And I said this before the series began.
00:58:12 I think you can get big games from Kyrie and Luka
00:58:14 and the Celtics still win.
00:58:16 That's the problem, and that's the difference
00:58:18 between these two teams is like, again, I know the regular--
00:58:22 They can combine for 65, but it doesn't--
00:58:24 I know the regular season is different,
00:58:25 but both games, just as an example,
00:58:28 those guys combined for exactly 62 points against the Celtics.
00:58:32 One of them was actually a Luka went off game
00:58:34 and Irving wasn't great.
00:58:35 The other was about 30 apiece.
00:58:37 And that can happen, and it's still fine.
00:58:39 Because if they're doing that, they're probably
00:58:40 not involving other people.
00:58:42 I think you're going to get burned a little bit when
00:58:43 the other guys start knocking down
00:58:45 open threes because you do have to send help,
00:58:47 or Luka starts really cooking Al on a pick and roll,
00:58:51 and then you've got to send some bodies.
00:58:53 That's what's going to be interesting.
00:58:54 And so that's what's going to happen,
00:58:56 is where I think the Celtics survived,
00:58:59 what the Celtics not got away with,
00:59:00 but where the Celtics did great with,
00:59:02 was Horford in isolation, Hauser in isolation, even Pritchard.
00:59:06 They didn't get murdered on those switches
00:59:08 when those guys were out there.
00:59:10 Those guys dominated.
00:59:10 Those guys not only get murdered, they played great.
00:59:14 Hauser was great every time they tried
00:59:16 to create a matchup with him.
00:59:18 The Mavericks got 22% against Pritchard, 26% against Horford,
00:59:23 33% against Hauser.
00:59:26 You couldn't dream of better defensive numbers than that.
00:59:30 The difference is, again, is those guys,
00:59:31 it's again, is that they only have those options here.
00:59:35 And again, they don't play defense.
00:59:38 And when Luka's not out there, you
00:59:40 saw the entire offense tank.
00:59:42 So again, they did everything you're
00:59:43 supposed to do with Luka, which is make him cover people,
00:59:47 get him on switches, exploit him, put pressure on him,
00:59:50 make him run, make him work.
00:59:52 Dude was gassed.
00:59:52 He was barely walking up and down the court
00:59:54 near the end of the game.
00:59:56 So I like that approach.
00:59:57 But guys, do you see anybody--
01:00:00 what's your concern level before we wrap it here?
01:00:02 And we're going to get moving, because we've
01:00:03 got to get first to the floor on.
01:00:04 I want to ask you guys one thing after, too,
01:00:05 because I missed some of your takes.
01:00:07 Well, why don't you ask that thing,
01:00:09 and then we've got to wrap it.
01:00:10 I wanted to know what your thoughts were of Holiday
01:00:14 kind of backing up what Kidd said.
01:00:16 Did he kind of take the bait there, too?
01:00:19 I think he did, a little bit.
01:00:20 But I think it was his way of saying it's really
01:00:23 closer than it should be, the way Jalen's been playing right
01:00:26 now.
01:00:27 He doesn't get enough credit or something like that.
01:00:29 I don't think he was like, oh, yeah, I've
01:00:30 been saying that for months.
01:00:32 I think it's--
01:00:34 I think the media, some people here in the chat,
01:00:37 will kind of, whoa, Drew, does he mean that?
01:00:42 And really, all he was saying was,
01:00:43 Jalen's really friggin' good.
01:00:45 So thinking he's the best player is not wrong.
01:00:49 He's amazing, because he does everything.
01:00:51 I don't think he's--
01:00:53 It's not the craziest take ever.
01:00:55 Drew's not answering it relative to Tatum in any way,
01:00:58 no question about it.
01:01:00 But it came off sounding a little like that.
01:01:03 If Tatum wants to get in his feelings a little bit,
01:01:07 maybe he could.
01:01:07 But I definitely don't think that was it.
01:01:10 But that's what Kidd wants, John and Jimmy.
01:01:12 Look at some of these headlines.
01:01:14 It was kind of surprising for me.
01:01:15 Some of these headlines are like, oh, Jason Kidd
01:01:18 has an eye-opening take.
01:01:19 It's like, isn't that eye-opening?
01:01:22 OK, maybe it's not--
01:01:23 I don't see it.
01:01:24 It's not the consensus.
01:01:26 That's not what most people think.
01:01:28 But it's not like he called out--
01:01:30 30 mode, what LeBron used to do, zero dark, 30 mode,
01:01:34 where he would put the phone down for the playoffs
01:01:36 and just zone in.
01:01:37 That's what these guys need to do.
01:01:39 Oh, that's right.
01:01:39 He did do that.
01:01:40 Two weeks, zero dark.
01:01:41 I don't know.
01:01:42 It's not like he called Drew Holiday or someone else
01:01:44 the best player.
01:01:44 It's like, I don't know if this is eye-opening
01:01:46 or this is jaw-dropping take.
01:01:48 Yeah, what was a little interesting--
01:01:49 and there's not much of it here.
01:01:51 I'll just show you.
01:01:52 These guys, there was a big moment there where they sat--
01:01:56 I only point out a big moment here
01:01:59 because you never see this.
01:02:00 But after these comments and the Celtics' practice window opens,
01:02:05 they walk up there, and Tatum and Brown start talking.
01:02:08 And everyone's going to pile on me for saying this.
01:02:13 They never talk.
01:02:14 They don't.
01:02:15 At practice, they don't.
01:02:17 They don't.
01:02:18 They don't ever--
01:02:19 So true.
01:02:21 1,000%.
01:02:23 They never talk.
01:02:24 Remember, Al said they acknowledge each other.
01:02:26 I'm not saying it to stir anything up.
01:02:29 I am literally telling you as an observation,
01:02:32 they never talk at practice.
01:02:35 I acknowledge some of my best friends in the world, man.
01:02:37 So I get it.
01:02:38 They never-- they don't.
01:02:40 I don't talk to my friends for months, but we're still--
01:02:42 They just go about their-- they'll
01:02:43 be right next to each other, and they do their own thing.
01:02:45 Or at practice, at the end of practice,
01:02:47 Brown's got his stuff at the near basket
01:02:50 where we talk to the people.
01:02:51 And Tatum comes out, and he goes to the opposite one,
01:02:53 and he does his thing.
01:02:54 They're never even working out in the same basket.
01:02:55 Do you think they're making a point?
01:02:57 They never talk.
01:02:59 And so the fact that they went to each other
01:03:01 was noteworthy in the sense that, oh, look,
01:03:03 Brown sought out Tatum.
01:03:05 Again, you just don't see it.
01:03:07 And so that was it.
01:03:07 But everyone was just wondering, are they talking about that?
01:03:10 We're not going to do this.
01:03:11 We're not going to do this thing.
01:03:13 Or are they just talking strategy?
01:03:15 It's just-- I loved seeing it because they don't--
01:03:17 you don't see them.
01:03:19 We would never, ever, ever poke at the narrative a little bit
01:03:23 if you saw them joking with each other
01:03:25 or hanging out a little bit and this and that.
01:03:27 But I'm telling you--
01:03:28 and again, people say they do it away from the court
01:03:31 sometimes or more than we know.
01:03:33 You never see it publicly.
01:03:34 When we're there-- and again, Bobby, Josue, Jimmy, we--
01:03:39 Bobby goes to everything.
01:03:41 You don't see it.
01:03:42 You don't.
01:03:43 So it was interesting to see that.
01:03:44 It was great.
01:03:46 Because of the national-- because all the bright lights
01:03:48 and the cameras.
01:03:49 I'm just wondering.
01:03:49 It was great.
01:03:50 It was great.
01:03:51 Tina was like, let me go talk to this dude right now
01:03:53 so everyone can get this B-roll and shut up real quick.
01:03:55 Guys, I'm telling you right now, I'm
01:03:58 not saying anything other than you literally just don't see it.
01:04:02 Like, you don't.
01:04:04 I think it's important to mention that this
01:04:06 is after kids' comments.
01:04:07 This is after the comments.
01:04:09 You actually-- we're there.
01:04:10 We're not-- you actually don't see it.
01:04:13 Pre-game warm-ups, no.
01:04:14 They don't.
01:04:15 They don't.
01:04:15 This was after both of them went up on the podium
01:04:17 and then they start practice.
01:04:19 And then they let the media watch them for about 15 minutes.
01:04:22 That's when the interaction happens.
01:04:23 I think about it like this, too.
01:04:25 And I know it's probably not this deep.
01:04:27 But where everyone's going to be talking about this all day,
01:04:30 everyone's going to be running their clips and the B-roll
01:04:33 from the court and talking over it,
01:04:36 it's pretty good to have them standing there talking it out.
01:04:40 If that was a moment of solidarity, like, hey,
01:04:42 let's just show everybody this isn't a thing.
01:04:44 Or they could have--
01:04:45 This is what people are going to be talking about it over.
01:04:46 They could have literally just been having a basketball
01:04:48 conversation like two teammates would at any point in time.
01:04:51 And it could have been literally nothing.
01:04:52 But whether the appearance of it was, I thought, kind of cool,
01:04:55 because they talked for a while.
01:04:56 They were there for a good couple of minutes.
01:04:59 And every camera and phone was on the entire thing.
01:05:03 So everyone was like, oh, there they are.
01:05:05 There's the two stars.
01:05:06 So it was great.
01:05:08 And here I am creating false narratives anyway.
01:05:10 I knew it was going to happen.
01:05:12 There's a funny comment.
01:05:13 Zach says, they've never met before.
01:05:15 [LAUGHTER]
01:05:18 That was the first time we met was on the court today.
01:05:27 That's great.
01:05:29 But they know the narrative, guys.
01:05:30 I mean--
01:05:31 We got to wrap it up.
01:05:32 I got guys waiting behind us.
01:05:33 Yeah, we got to go.
01:05:34 OK.
01:05:35 I was just going to say, Tatum said
01:05:37 that they know the narrative.
01:05:38 They talked about this a bunch of times
01:05:40 and didn't put a timetable on it.
01:05:42 But I believe them.
01:05:43 I think they talked about it a lot.
01:05:45 Anyway, thank you guys for hanging out with us.
01:05:47 We do appreciate it.
01:05:48 We'll be back.
01:05:49 Maybe we'll just run out of daylight.
01:05:51 Yeah, I told you guys it's like 20 minutes.
01:05:53 We've got to do some new stuff.
01:05:54 There's a lighthouse.
01:05:55 Guys, I got to hang up the phone, OK?
01:05:58 Guys, I got to hang up the phone.
01:06:00 We got to go.
01:06:02 I got these guys waiting.
01:06:03 First to the floor is next.
01:06:04 No nonsense, real basketball talk.
01:06:07 None of this bullsh--
01:06:08 [LAUGHTER]
01:06:08 --narrative stuff that you guys hate.
01:06:11 Everybody hates this stupid shit.
01:06:14 They're going to talk some real X's and O's
01:06:16 and some real basketball.
01:06:17 So tune in next for these guys.
01:06:20 Let me say one thing, John.
01:06:22 Oh my god.
01:06:23 Every show.
01:06:24 I'm not allowed to go to the games.
01:06:26 I'm not allowed to go to the games.
01:06:27 But as long as it's sunny tomorrow,
01:06:30 all I'm going to do is Celtics.
01:06:32 I'm going to be hanging out at Pier 6 tomorrow before the game.
01:06:35 Anybody going to the Celtics game
01:06:36 looking for a place to hang, if it's nice out,
01:06:38 Pier 6, right over the bridge from the TD Garden in Charlestown.
01:06:41 Good spot.
01:06:42 Right on the water.
01:06:43 We'll do a little Celtics pregame party.
01:06:45 That's my plan.
01:06:46 As long as the sun's out.
01:06:47 If it's raining, it's off.
01:06:48 But if the sun's out, that's where I'm going to be.
01:06:50 Yeah.
01:06:50 6 o'clock.
01:06:51 Not a bad spot to watch the game.
01:06:53 Bye.
01:06:54 Maybe 6.30.
01:06:55 Wait, Ahmed's got an outro for us, I think.
01:06:57 No, he doesn't.
01:06:58 He said he was going to work on an outro.
01:07:00 Man, he had a phenomenal game.
01:07:03 Phenomenal.
01:07:04 [LAUGHTER]
01:07:06 Porfrit's out.
01:07:07 I think it's an awesome.
01:07:08 [LAUGHTER]
01:07:11 That did not sound like a chair.
01:07:13 It was a freaking chair.
01:07:15 It does sound like a chair.
01:07:17 (upbeat music)
