00:00Hello, OG! I'm John. We're here in Tagaytay, and welcome to our tiny house on wheels, Kasita Isabela.
00:07Are you ready?
00:17Before, when my wife and I were talking about what we're going to name our house,
00:21we wanted to name it Kasita because, again, Kasita is the word for tiny.
00:26And the word Kasita is because it's Spanish.
00:29Ang name ng aming bunso is Isabela.
00:32It sounds good when we name it Kasita Isabela.
00:41Kami ng mag-asawa, we're fascinated about tiny house on wheels.
00:46That's why we're watching a lot of YouTube videos, Netflix, Pinterest, mga photos.
00:52We browse a lot of photos from other social media platforms.
00:56Sabi ko sa asawa ko, bakit kaya hindi tayo gumawa ng tiny house on wheels,
01:03similar to what we see in Australia, New Zealand, and in the U.S.?
01:07Sabi ko, because wala pa ako nakikitang ganyan sa Pilipinas.
01:11With a big smile from my wife, she said, sige, game!
01:16So, me and my wife got married here in, well, actually, it's in Caleruega.
01:22It's in Sugbo, but very near in Tagaytay.
01:25When we got married, there is a specific place dun sa Caleruega.
01:29It's a steel bench.
01:31Yun din ang ginawa namin wedding portrait namin sa may bahay.
01:35So, every year, during our anniversary, every January,
01:41we go back here para i-mimic yung photo namin na yun sa may Caleruega.
01:48Sabi namin, sige, maghanap tayo ng place dito sa may Tagaytay.
01:51Para yun ang tatayo natin ng vacation house natin.
01:55Parang nagusangan kakagad namin yung place.
01:57Kasi nga, ang hobby namin is off-roading.
02:00So, we're used to, alam mo, yung parang medyo lib-lib na lugar.
02:04We immediately bought it.
02:11So, when we decided na to build a tiny house as a rental property,
02:17gusto namin ang ma-experience ng guest.
02:20It's not just a regular staycation, but rather, ang gusto namin experience.
02:25Kami ng family, ang hobby namin is 4x4 off-roading and overlanding.
02:30When we go overlanding with the kids, nai-enjoy naman nila.
02:34Sometimes, nag-stay kami sa overlanding like for two nights.
02:38Siguro, longest namin was four nights.
02:41So, that's how it started.
02:42Kaya, ang gusto namin ma-experience when we have our guests here in Casita Isabela.
02:48Experience yung, not just living in a tiny house,
02:51but experience really yung glamping like we do experience.
02:55Siyempre, a lot ng mga ngayon, hindi sila open sa idea na,
02:58uy, walang CR. Medyo mahirap yun sa kanila.
03:01Sabi namin, if we're gonna offer this as a staycation,
03:04dapat we have all the facilities.
03:08Since ang purpose naman talaga namin for building Casita Isabela is,
03:12a big part of it is outdoor living.
03:14We have yung picnic table namin, para yung feel na feel mo talagang outdoor.
03:20Kaya, ginawa namin picnic table.
03:22Meron din kaming outdoor tub.
03:25Yung outdoor tub namin, inspired din yun naman, napapanood namin sa may YouTube.
03:30Nang nagpinagawa ko yung tub, I asked yung nag-customize niyan,
03:34kung pwede rin niyang gawin yung parang coil na yun,
03:37na that will serve as an off-grid heater.
03:45Meron din kaming ginawang fire pit, para naman sa may bonfire,
03:50para sa experience ng family, yung mag-smores,
03:54tatambay sa gabi para magpainit, especially during the cold season.
04:05Inside the tiny house, parang left, right, turn around, no?
04:10So when you enter, immediately makikita mo kaagad, of course, is the living room.
04:16Meron lang kaming small doon na table, like yung Japanese table,
04:22where guests can have their indoor dining, kung gusto nilang doon sa indoor maglunch.
04:28Meron pa kaming dalawang beanbag diyan, so that ang nilagay namin is beanbag,
04:32so that medyo mas comfy, especially when you're watching TV, no?
04:37Masarap kasing umubo sa may beanbag.
04:43And then when you look on your left, makikita mo kaagad yung kitchen.
04:50And then in the kitchen, complete lahat, lahat na mga kailangan mo,
04:54everything is there.
04:55If you want to cook pasta, gusto mong magprito, magsaing, may microwave, may coffee maker,
05:01yung mga kailangan mo for outdoor, everything is there.
05:08Sa labas ng tiny house, nagprepare kami ng stove.
05:11They don't have to use the place, kasi it's very tiny.
05:14Pag nagluto ka ng prito, medyo maangamoy yung buong place natin,
05:18especially when it's cold.
05:20On top of the kitchen is the loft na.
05:25Meron kaming double bed diyan.
05:28Although ang target namin talaga sa may kasita Isabela is for a couple and small family,
05:34we accommodate up to maximum of five kung papayag lang sila ang mga guests na about sa may sleeping arrangement
05:41kasi extra bed lang yung mga guests.
05:44Meron din kaming fan doon na pwede gamitin nila especially during the time na medyo mainit.
05:55Sa may toilet namin is very tiny rin, malite nung maliit yan, talagang pinagkasya namin dyan.
06:01I invite ko yung friend ko, I told him,
06:03In our toilet, it's very tiny, it's really small, we really fit in there.
06:12I invited my friend to see the actual, we made him sit there, he said he had no idea
06:19why we made him sit there, until he realized, are you making me measure?
06:24Yes, he said that, because we want the guest on all sizes, that it will be a comfortable
06:30seating in the toilet seat, when we really made him sit there.
06:37And then, beside the toilet bowl, we installed another small sink, my wife and I made our
06:44small sink inside the kitchen, because they need a sink inside the toilet, I said, when
06:52you go out of the toilet, you already have a sink, why do we need a sink inside?
06:57He really pushed it, he just said, it's a girl thing, so I have nothing to say.
07:07In the toilet, we have the shower, there's also a bidet.
07:11So the details of the tiny house, this is actually not a container van, a lot of my
07:32guests thought that this is actually a container van, because it looks like a container van.
07:36While that was the intent then, but we do not want to use a container van, because there
07:40are pros and cons after my research using a container van.
07:47And nevertheless, what we really want is to build a tiny house similar to how they build
07:53it abroad.
07:54The outside is a long-span ribbed type, on the wall, we use a metal stud, and then for
08:06insulation, similarly, we don't want to use what we're using here in the Philippines,
08:12which is just aluminum.
08:14So we use what they use in Australia, it's thick, they call it a rock wall.
08:21So that's what we put, so that it can resist at least the heat of the Philippines, and
08:26sometimes during the cold season, during the bare months in January and February.
08:33However, because we're in the farmland, we're in the Philippines, we're going to use wood.
08:44And that's why on the exterior, we use a fiber cement, that has a wood husk, that's why it
08:50looks wood.
08:51And then, I told my co-workers, given that your skill is really a house painter, I said,
08:59maybe you should make it look like wood.
09:12So the construction of Casita Isabela, actually it took about one year.
09:17So our build was a bit long, because we only made two of these tiny houses, because what
09:24we really wanted when we got married, is that we would really do it as a DIY project.
09:29Aside from just the two of us, our challenge is, we're not skilled carpenters.
09:34I just told Lester, that I have a project, are you willing to do this?
09:40He said, it's okay, he'll try.
09:43So I asked him, do you know how to do carpentry?
09:48It's okay, I do woodworking sometimes in our house, but really not doing a lot of carpentry.
09:59So the last size of Casita Isabela is 330 square meters.
10:11The floor size is 14 feet in length, 8 feet wide, and then 14 feet in height.
10:19So our future plan here in Casita Isabela is, we want to build a wood canopy, so that
10:29our guests will have a place to stay, besides going inside the tiny house.
10:35And then another is, of course, we want to have a pantry at the back of the tiny house,
10:41so that it will be our permanent location, as cooking areas, as kitchen.
10:46Right now, we're using a mobile stove that's inside a drum.
11:05My advice is, you have to start small and simple.
11:09Small because you won't be surprised by the price.
11:12And then second is, don't be afraid to ask questions.
11:17When we planned this, I seek advice from experts.
11:22And then I guess last is, embrace the journey, especially if you're doing a DIY project.
11:36So for those who want to experience living in a tiny house on wheels,
