Welcome to another episode of Unique Homes where we feature tiny houses, farmhouses, modern bahay kubo, and everything in between. Because we know — you can’t stop looking into other people’s homes for inspiration.
____
Pampanga — This Korean-inspired farmhouse features an infinity pool, glamping area, rooftop deck and more. Perched right on the rice fields, this farmhouse despite being modern is not complete without a bahay kubo outside. Any farmer would want one with a hammock nearby. And though mixing the old and new is nothing short of a good idea, let's make the tiny house tour quick and move on to the modernist structure.
Large windows and sliding doors are quite common among neo-traditional Korean houses. Homeowners also must consider house positioning to feature beautiful landscapes or outdoor spaces. Shari and her family took the Korean flare seriously with their three-story family retreat overlooking the sprawling rice fields around it. Now the property is a comfortable home that hosts joyful family affairs.
Explore the property with Shari as she shares what the investment looks like and the challenges they faced in building the house without professional help.

00:00Hello OG, welcome to our Korean modern farmhouse in the middle of the rice field.
00:18So this is our modern Korean farmhouse, we acquired this lot in 2018 and we decided to
00:26start the construction in 2019 because the protocols were a bit tight during the pandemic.
00:32So after that, the construction continued, we went back to the family.
00:36When we go here, we stay.
00:39We have a big lot where we do glamping.
00:43We put our tents here and also on the rooftop, it's also possible.
00:46The weather is very nice, especially in the afternoon.
00:52So I will show you where our father stays.
00:56If you notice, we have a modern house but he still prefers to stay here in his small hut.
01:04So his hut is okay because even though it's small, it's complete.
01:08He has a kitchen here, a TV, and there are plants, that's his favorite.
01:14We also have a duyan here next to the hut so he can lie down when he gets hot inside.
01:21Our father is a farmer, that's why we really like this farmhouse because the main source
01:30of income for the people here is farming.
01:33So if you can see around here, there's a rice field.
01:36Most of the people here are farmers.
01:38So that's our father's hobby, he's really happy with that.
01:42So we also provided a lot for him so he can also farm because he's a senior citizen.
01:48Priority is his happiness.
02:18So if you can see, the area is really big because we really want to have a big parking
02:28area because all of us have a car.
02:31So if you can see, there's no problem with the parking, we have a lot of space.
02:41Our modern house consists of three floors.
02:44In the first floor, originally, we made it a function hall when we have a family gathering.
02:49But now, we made it a private staff room so it's not allowed to show.
02:55And our second floor, that's our main bedroom, that's where we all stay.
02:59We also have a rooftop where we put our tent, we barbeque there, we do samgyup.
03:05We also have an infinity pool facing the rice field.
03:09Let's go, let's go up.
03:12So we're now here on the second floor.
03:14If you can see, we also have a vacant lot.
03:17The future plan is to make a fish pond because I mentioned earlier that we want to get all
03:23of our food here.
03:25The view is beautiful, right?
03:27Let's go, let's go inside our main bedroom.
03:36So we're now here on the second floor where you can see our main bedroom.
03:41So here in our bedroom, this is also our favorite spot because everything is here if you want
03:46to relax.
03:47There's the bed.
03:48We also have a small living area.
03:50This is where the cousins hang out.
03:52There, say hi to them.
03:53There, so they usually watch Netflix, they like it.
03:57So aside from that, of course, when we're hungry, we also have a small kitchen.
04:01So we can cook here.
04:02Then we also have this small coffee table.
04:05Usually, we have coffee here in the early morning.
04:08Of course, we also have a bathroom.
04:14So here is our bedroom area.
04:16Let's go to the pool area.
04:24So here, this is our infinity pool that we can see directly from the bedroom.
04:30So this infinity pool, it took about five months to build because we were changing tiles here
04:37because what we used here is a tile.
04:40What my brother wanted was a unique color of tiles.
04:43So we really looked for a concept that he liked.
04:46From here, we can also see the modern cabana.
04:49My brother stays there because when he's working, we're all here and it's noisy.
04:54So he wants a private place there.
05:01Farm life is the best, especially now that the pandemic is here because we're concerned
05:06about our healthy lifestyle.
05:08So it's a trend now that everyone is buying farms like that.
05:13So our advice is that we really need to have fixed plans.
05:17What happened to us, one of the lessons learned from us is that we kept doing it over and over.
05:23In construction, for example, it was already installed and then eventually removed.
05:27So that's where we incurred a lot of expenses.
05:30So you really need to have fixed plans and if you can afford to hire an architect or
05:36an expert who can help you, it's much better for you.
05:45There, so we're done here.
05:47You've already seen our favorite spot, the pool area.
05:51So let's go to the last part of our tour, the third floor, which is the rooftop.
05:56We stargaze there and set up tents.
06:01So this is our third floor, which is the rooftop.
06:05The view is beautiful, isn't it?
06:08So you can see that we also have tents ready.
06:11So usually, we really set up tents here, but you can also do it downstairs.
06:16So here, actually, on the fourth floor, our other birthday occasions are held here, especially
06:22in the summer.
06:23It's nice to put decorations here, but it's a bit windy.
06:28So what we do here, we have a table here, actually, we just put it down.
06:33We have a barbecue here, others have a barbecue, like that.
06:36So there, the view is beautiful.
06:38You can feel the fresh air.
06:40You can see the overlooking rice fields.
06:48The lot size is 2,000 square meters and it costs 2 million.
06:53The floor area is 1.8 square meters and the whole construction cost is 5 million.
07:01The cost of the construction has increased because the materials have been replaced.
07:08Actually, my brother is a bit meticulous when it comes to the materials that are used.
07:12So when he sees that it doesn't fit, he will replace it.
07:17And that is one of the reasons why the construction took a long time.
07:23And that ends our tour.
07:25Maraming salamat po sa pagsama sa amin.
07:27Nakita niyo po ang aming Korean modern farmhouse.
07:31At sana po nag-enjoy kayo at na-inspire sa aming story.
07:35Thank you so much po ulit.
07:37Goodbye!
