Farm Owners Spent 150K for This Modern Bahay Kubo | Tiny Home Living

Take another glimpse of somebody else's small living and enjoy the tiny house tour!

Welcome to Rad Farmstead in Sapang Dalaga, Misamis Occidental. It's a beautiful and productive farm, but we may have to save the farm tour for another day.

Home owners Darleth and Red would like show you around their reimagined bahay kubo and enchanting outdoor space instead. It's kinda off-grid living, but it's been amazing for the couple. They're loving the fresh air, the scenerey, the peace and quiet. And they're proud of their inspiring decor and landcaping ideas. Who wouldn't love to see that?

00:00Hi everyone, welcome to our place, ito tour namin kayo inside, let's go!
00:20This farmland is owned by my grandfather, Lolo Berto, and he was kind enough to let
00:26us develop and manage this area.
00:31This farmland is about 6 hectares, pero 2 hectares lang yung minimaintain namin.
00:37It's so special for us kasi dito nakakapag-relax kami.
00:49nagbabakasyon lang.
00:53Mostly sa materials na ginamit namin is around the area lang.
00:56That's why we were able to save a lot on the cost.
01:00Like yung walls, made of bagal nga trees, which is dito lang sa area namin so we didn't
01:05have to buy it.
01:07And yung framing ng house and then yung floors is coconut trees, and then yung mga posts
01:14is mahogany.
01:20That's why yung ibang framing is maliliit, because we just have to maximize what we have
01:26here.
01:34ginamit namin for the roofing.
01:36And then some of the parts, like yung CR, is concrete na kasi nababasa sya always,
01:42so mahirap pag ikahoy namin sya.
01:45Ito yung patio, it's just 6 by 12 feet yung size niya.
01:57Sometimes dito rin kami tumatambay, nagpapahangin, nagdudu yan.
02:01By the way, these walls are made from bagal nga tree or neem tree.
02:06Dito lang din namin sa area sya nakuha, so we don't have to buy this, nakasave kami sa
02:11cost.
02:12And yung windows din namin is galing sa old windows ng parents ko, so we also don't have
02:18to buy those.
02:19And then also the wood frames for the doors, salvage din dito sa area.
02:23There are two events na memorable sa amin dito.
02:30One was that we did our prenup here, dun sa loob.
02:34So tinulong ako ng cousin ko, Lishina, to redesign the house, yung mga ratan products
02:40is galing sa shop niya.
02:42This is our setup na, yung may string lights.
02:45So memorable siya sa amin kasi dito nangyari yung reception namin for our civil wedding.
02:58Yung dimension ng house is 12 feet by 12 feet, yung patio is around 6 by 12 feet, and then
03:05yung CR is 4 by 6 feet.
03:08Initially, hindi siya designed to be a residential house, parang we just wanted to have a place
03:14where we can stay here sa farm to relax and to do our work, kasi we're both working online.
03:25na we actually need to have a kitchen.
03:30And then for the design, gusto namin yung typical na kubo, pero hindi the same as what we usually
03:38see.
03:43magusta namin.
03:44So eto na yung pinaka main room, this is 12 by 12 feet, yung size niya, and eto na yung
03:55bedroom slash living room slash office namin.
03:59It's made from amakan, yung double wall niya, and then yung ceiling niya, before it used
04:06to be banig, kaya lang since hindi namin siya na-treat well, we have to change it kasi we
04:14need to repair it.
04:16Yung furniture, yung computer and bedside table are from Red's parents' house, so we also
04:22don't have to buy those.
04:24And we just need to customize yung bed and then yung cabinet kasi.
04:29We need to maximize the space, kaya may storage na din siya sa baba para ilagay yung mga gamit
04:36namin.
04:37Also, the cabinets are custom-made kasi eto lang yung fair na area na pwede naming paglagyan
04:44sa kanya.
04:45Since nasa province kami, limited lang yung items na we can choose from, so it was easy
04:50for us to find yung cabinet and then yung chairs.
04:54We just purchased it online kasi walang masyadong pagpipilian dito sa province.
05:00Eto na yung workplace namin.
05:03Since both of us are working online, programmer si Red and I am a virtual assistant, so dito
05:09na kami nag-work every day.
05:13And then direkto na sa CR, since we designed this as a place that we can stay here sa farm
05:20pag pumupunta kami, meron siyang access from the outside.
05:24So dalawa yung access niya, from the room and then may access din siya palabas.
05:32So that yung visitors, dito na sila dumadaan pag gumagamit sila ni CR.
05:38Also, we had to renovate na din yung CR kasi this used to be all bamboo dito.
05:50deteriorate.
05:51So we have to change it to concrete na.
06:02Once you go inside, it's just the room.
06:05Parang all-in-one na siya.
06:06Yun na yung pinaka-living room namin, bedroom, and office.
06:11Usually, we spend most of our time dun sa area na yun.
06:16We've been living here for two years na.
06:19And so far, with regards to the security, three houses lang kami dito.
06:24We could say naman na secure siya.
06:27We have a gate naman also.
06:29And then marami kami yung farm dogs.
06:31Farm dogs.
06:32Oo.
06:33Yung farm dogs talaga yung parang pinaka-security guard namin.
06:37So far, safe naman dito.
06:39Siguro, you just need to choose or evaluate the area, of course, at first before settling down.
06:50Yeah, for the cost of the farmhouse, it's about Php 150,000, more or less.
06:57Including the furnitures inside.
07:00But we were able to save a lot on the materials because most of it were sourced out lang dito sa farm.
07:11Since we initially designed this as yung kwarto lang, kaya naka-detach yung kitchen.
07:21So, yun.
07:22As you can see, parang iba.
07:24Eto concrete, eto nipa.
07:26Because this was the old kitchen.
07:28It's made from light materials lang.
07:30Kahoy, nipa.
07:32And then, when we actually lived here, na-realize namin na since hindi naman well-treated yung mga wood.
07:39So, madali siyang na-deteriorate.
07:41So, kailangan na namin i-repair.
07:43And also, since mahilig na rin akong magluto, kaya we decided to extend the kitchen.
08:00We opted to put our entertainment dito outside.
08:03Yung TV, tsaka speakers.
08:04Dito na kami namin noon.
08:05TV, YouTube, or listen to Spotify.
08:09So, we have here a coffee table, which is also salvaged.
08:12Doon sa bahay ng parents ko.
08:15And the chairs are also salvaged from Red's parents' house.
08:33And we installed it this way.
08:35Para maganda naman siyang pigna.
08:39If we're going to choose, if it's going to be just the two of us,
08:44we can live in this payag for a long time.
08:47But, in reality, for a growing family, we also wanted each member to have their own space.
08:53So, siguro, in the long run, hindi siya magiging ideal.
08:58So, meron siyang potential na pwedeng i-Airbnb later if we have another place to stay na.
09:09And then, siguro, later, if may budget, we are planning to have a small cafe here.
09:17And also, maybe do farm-to-table experience for people.
09:23And maybe we can officially open this area to the public.
