00:00 Second Corinthians chapter 4 let's look at verse number 8 we are continuing the
00:13 series that we've been in for the last three weeks. Second Corinthians chapter
00:19 4 verse number 8.
00:28 We are troubled on every side yet not distressed. We are perplexed but not in
00:37 despair. That's second Corinthians 4 verse number 8. I want all of us
00:42 collectively to read it aloud. Come on everybody. We are troubled on every side.
00:49 We are perplexed. Let's read it again with a little bit more vim, vigor, and
00:56 enthusiasm. Come on everybody. We are troubled.
01:01 You may be seated in the presence of the Lord. I want to preach today using as a
01:12 subject you get on my nerves part three. Amen. One of the most overcrowded prisons
01:24 in America is right here in Fulton County. There are not enough beds for
01:34 those, hear this, who are waiting on trial. A few weeks ago Sheriff Maddox invited me
01:43 to a tour of the DeKalb County Prison and I was overwhelmed at the advances
01:50 that they are making. Teaching the inmates the art of meditation, the art of
01:58 yoga, that every inmate in the DeKalb jail has a tablet at their disposal so that
02:09 they can in fact be on the cutting edge of technology and be prepared when they
02:14 leave. I was there for almost two hours and in the middle of the tour Sheriff
02:21 Maddox said something to me that still has stalked me to this day. Here's what
02:28 Sheriff Maddox said to me. She said, "Pastor Bryan, I don't know whether you
02:32 realize it or not, but 76% of those who are inmates in the jail, 76% have a
02:40 mental health issue." Did y'all hear what I just said? 76% of the inmates have a
02:48 mental health issue and the sheriff said to me, "I am not sure whether this is a jail
02:55 or a psychiatric ward because we are now criminalizing those who have mental
03:05 health challenges." I don't know whether you realize it or not, but parents I
03:10 need you to be highly aware that beginning at the fourth to the sixth
03:15 grade, based off of state aptitude tests, do they gauge how many new prisons to
03:22 build. Based off of the performance of your child between the fourth and the
03:28 sixth grade is the projection for prison advancement, development, and growth. What
03:37 we rarely talk about is the fastest growing prison population, the fastest
03:43 growing prison population is now black women. Yet we say nothing about them. We
03:53 have to stop as a church, as the black church, stop looking at mental health as
04:01 a taboo issue. It is an issue that is intimately intertwined into
04:10 all of our families. Everybody who has a mental health issue does not have a
04:17 demon.
04:20 [applause]
04:22 They just need medication, they need assistance. I am of a small population of
04:31 preachers that believe unapologetically that you can have Jesus and a therapist.
04:40 Just because you are saved doesn't mean you won't get stressed out. Just because
04:49 you've been delivered doesn't mean that you don't fight with depression. Just
04:53 because you're anointed doesn't mean you will not have bouts of anxiety. And they
05:00 have been trying to prepare us for what mental health looks like since we were
05:06 children, but we never paid attention. Saturday mornings with pajamas on, eating
05:13 Frosted Flakes in front of the television, Indian style. We saw mental
05:21 health, but we didn't know how to recognize it. If truth be told, every
05:28 character from Winnie the Pooh possessed some level of mental illness. Tigger was
05:37 beyond energetic. Public school teachers would label him as hyperactive. Tigger
05:46 had no impulse control. He constantly bounced around, could never seem to pay
05:54 attention. Tigger, if restless, was a person. In today's market, Tigger would be
06:03 labeled with ADHD. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. And I need you to
06:12 know that's why some people around you have refused to shout today. It's because
06:18 they don't want you to think something is wrong with them. But they don't
06:22 understand I jump up not because something is wrong, but when I think of
06:27 the goodness of Jesus and all he's done for me. I said I wasn't gonna tell nobody,
06:34 but I just can't keep it to myself. It feels like fire. Shut up in my bones.
06:42 Y'all ain't saying nothing. If you knew what I had been through and how God was
06:48 the one that brought me out, I can't afford to sit there with my arms folded
06:54 and legs crossed. I sing because I'm happy. I sing because... Look at all these crazy
07:03 people. They keep jumping up and ain't nobody told him to do it. You may be
07:12 seated. Wendy DePoole tried to show us what mental health looked like. When that
07:20 was over we turned the channel for the Gen Z and the Alpha generation. You got
07:25 to know that we didn't have the Disney Channel growing up. We watched cartoons
07:29 until Soul Train came on.
07:33 Right after Wendy DePoole was Snow White. And not so much do I want to analyze her,
07:45 but I want to analyze her arch-nemesis, the evil queen who clearly had NPD, which
07:54 is narcissistic personality disorder. She is fully consumed by her desire to be
08:02 the most beautiful person in the region and thrives off the validation from her
08:09 mirror. Your superpower is not needing validation from others. There are
08:18 people who are in this room who knew I had it going on before I left the house.
08:23 What it is that you say about what I got on, I don't need it as validation, it's
08:30 confirmation. Y'all ain't saying nothing. I know who I am without you and I don't
08:37 need designer clothes to make me great. I don't need diamonds to make me great. I
08:42 don't need a Rolex to make me great. I'm fly and broke. I can't hear nobody. I got
08:48 it going on and folk that got more than me are jealous of me and they got no
08:54 idea how bad I'm struggling. But the God of my salvation keeps making a way for
09:02 me. Is there anybody here that learn like David to encourage yourself? I done put
09:10 on some weight but I still got it going on. I look fly. I look good.
09:18 Come on Newbert.
09:21 You got to know who you are without the benefit of other people. You may be seated
09:30 and Mickey Mouse is probably the most recognized animation.
09:39 It's the most recognized animation but right under Mickey Mouse the second
09:45 most recognized animated character is Charlie Brown. And Charlie Brown has
09:52 avoidant personality disorder. Charlie Brown has avoidant personality disorder
09:59 because he feels more comfortable with dog and a bird than he does with other
10:05 people. And part of the reason is that every time he tries to kick the ball
10:12 somebody moves it. And there's some people who are sitting on your road. They
10:16 got the skill. They got the intellect. They got the capacity. But every time
10:21 they try to do something great, then somebody comes along trying to
10:26 sabotage their success and they move the goalposts. Y'all ain't saying nothing. Do
10:32 you know how far you would be if the playing field was even? If you didn't
10:37 have to play politics, didn't have to kiss up, you ain't got to be in the end
10:42 circle. But God said for me to tell 50 of y'all, your gift is gonna make room for
10:47 you. Your supervisor ain't gotta like you. Your co-workers ain't gotta like you. The
10:53 folk in this church ain't gotta like you. But God said the oil on your life is
10:59 undeniable and it's irrefutable. If you give me a shot and let me do what I know
11:06 how to do, I will shut this thing down. Just stop moving the ball.
11:15 But I don't even, I don't even want to focus on Charlie Brown. I want to focus
11:23 on Charlie Brown. I want to focus on Linus. I want to focus on Linus because
11:33 everywhere he went, he took a blanket. He took a blanket for comfort. When Charles
11:41 Shultz first etched Linus in 1954, there was not the psychological term known as
11:48 a comfort blanket. But the comfort blanket is what you carry around. Here it
11:55 is so that you have some sense of peace. You have some sense of peace. He never
12:01 wanted to wash it. But he took it everywhere. He ain't even getting ready
12:06 to go to bed. But Linus took that blanket with him
12:10 everywhere. Even when he was sitting in class, he took the blanket with him. And
12:16 nobody from 1954 to 2024 has ever asked Linus why are you carrying that blanket
12:25 around. And on this Pentecost Sunday, Linus wanted me to tell you that the
12:30 reason why he carried that blanket around, and only some of y'all are gonna
12:35 be able to identify, is because he was stressed out from people. It was not
12:42 strangers. Y'all ain't saying nothing to me. It was people that was getting on his
12:47 nerves. Do you know how much stress it is just being around people? And some of
12:54 y'all don't got to deal with that kind of stress. But can I show you the kind of
12:57 stress that Linus is under? He is stressed all the way out. Can you imagine
13:02 every day, every day, you hanging out with a man named Pigpen. He don't want to
13:09 wash, but he always want to be around you. Y'all don't know what stress is. Can you
13:14 imagine? He only got one black friend. His one black friend is Franklin. And for
13:20 23 years, Franklin gets not one word to say. He's present, but he don't know how
13:26 to use his language. He's stressed because he got to hang around some girl
13:31 by the name of Lucy, who's giving advice, even though she ain't certified, licensed,
13:36 and ain't graduated from anywhere. He's stressed because he hanging around
13:41 somebody named Schroeder, who got gift, but has no interpersonal skills, because
13:47 he always on the piano, but never knows how to have a conversation. He's stressed
13:52 because he's hanging out with a dog named Snoopy, that thinks he can be a
13:56 pilot, and he ain't on a plane. He's on top of a doghouse. He's stressed because
14:01 he's hanging around a bird that don't even know how to fly, but is always
14:06 walking around on the ground, lower than his call and his expectation. It ain't
14:12 your car that's stressing you out. It's the people around you. And on top of that,
14:18 I got to go to a school and hear a teacher that don't even speak my
14:22 language. I'm stressed out. I'm stressed out from people looking me up
14:30 and down. I'm stressed out from folk that think they know me, but they don't know
14:36 what it takes for me to be me. I'm stressed because my children are
14:40 disrespectful. I'm stressed because folk always think that I'm arrogant, and they
14:46 don't know I'm hurt, and I'm broken, and I'm shut down. I'm stressed because I got
14:51 bills, and I hate asking people for money. I'm stressed because I hate being by
14:57 myself, and I'm sick of who I'm with. I'm stressed.
15:03 I'm stressed about people. Be seated please. I don't mean no harm, but it's
15:13 people that's stressing me out. If you can feel that thing, can you just give me
15:19 a high-five in the air? People are stressing me out. And Paul said, Paul said
15:28 to the church at Corinth, "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed."
15:35 Hallelujah. I'm not stressed by planes, trains, and automobiles. I'm stressed from
15:41 people. God, help me in here. I said I'm stressed from people. Let me say it
15:47 backwards. People are stressing me out. People begging all the time. People lying
15:54 all the time. People manipulating all the time. People trying to gaslight me all
16:00 the time. People scamming me all the time. People hating on me all the time. People
16:06 jealous of me all the time. People pretending to like me all the time.
16:11 People using me all the time. I'm stressed by people. And when you deal
16:18 with that kind of stress, I don't care who you are, when you under that kind of
16:24 stress, you look for something to cope with. Some of us when we stress, we eating
16:32 in the middle of the night and we ain't hungry. Others of us when we stress, we
16:39 look for retail therapy. We shop until we drop, knowing that we got insufficient
16:46 funds. Some of us when we stress, we don't use a knife, but we get a drink to take
16:52 the edge off. And I ain't talking about communion. Some of us when we are stressed
16:58 and we want to escape, we get inundated by opiates. Others of us when we are
17:04 stressed, a sector of us just want to be touched by somebody, even if the somebody
17:10 doesn't even know we are somebody. And so under our stress, we scrolling through
17:15 Tinder, scrolling through Jack, scrolling through Pornhub, scrolling through
17:20 somebody who's emotionally unavailable, scrolling through somebody who is
17:25 psychologically abusive. Because in our broken nature, we thought in order to get
17:30 over somebody, we had to get under somebody. But Paul said we are troubled
17:35 on every side, but we are not distressed. I need you to make an announcement on
17:41 your own and declare out loud this summer, come on say it out loud, this
17:45 summer I ain't gonna let nobody stress me out. I don't care what's going on, I
17:52 don't care what's happening, your emergency is not my crisis. I am NOT
17:59 gonna be stressed out this summer.
18:03 Paul said we troubled on every side, yet not distressed. John chapter 14 verse 16
18:15 Jesus said, "And I will pray to the Father that he will give you," here it is, "a
18:23 comforter, that he will abide with you forever." Hallelujah. I need you to watch
18:31 what God says. He says I know you're troubled on every side, but I ain't left
18:35 you by yourself. I'm putting a comforter on you. I don't know whether you ever
18:41 realize how crazy we are. Do you realize how crazy we are that even in the
18:47 summertime, it's 96 degrees outside, 96 degrees outside. Do you know how crazy we
18:53 are? It's 96 degrees outside and you still can't sleep without a comforter.
18:59 God, I can't hear nobody. Can I show you how crazy you are? You turn the
19:03 temperature all the way down. You can't even sleep till it's cold, that's what
19:08 you say. But you put it all the way down to 67 and watch your crazy self go
19:14 put a comforter on top of it. Why? Because you sleep better when something is on
19:20 you. I came to tell somebody in the room, the reason why I'm able to go to sleep
19:26 at night with all of the stress that I'm under is because I got a comforter. I got
19:33 the Holy Ghost that walks with me, that he talks with me, and he tells me I am
19:41 his own. Hallelujah. Be seated please. I got to show you something. He says I am
19:49 giving you the comforter of the Greek word for the Holy Spirit. The Greek word
19:55 for the Holy Spirit is the paraclete. The paraclete means that somebody
20:01 walks alongside you. I came to tell somebody the reason why you ain't gonna
20:06 lose your mind is you ain't in it by yourself. But he's walking right with you.
20:13 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil.
20:20 Watch this, because his rod and his staff, here's your shout, comforts me. So I had the
20:26 Holy Ghost in Psalm 23. I need you to look at your neighbor and tell your
20:31 neighbor your enemy is in trouble. Because your enemy thought you were in it by
20:36 yourself. But the Holy Ghost gonna walk you through this divorce. The Holy Ghost
20:41 is gonna walk you through this court case. The Holy Spirit gonna walk you through
20:46 this trial. My comforter, my comforter, hear this, in the Greek is the
20:54 paraclete. It's the paraclete. And I'm mindful, Brother Cecil, I'm mindful that
20:59 99% of you in this room have never taken Greek before. I'm mindful of that. I don't
21:05 want you to think I'm flossing just because I went to Oxford, just because I
21:08 went to Duke. I don't want you to think I'm no better than you. You just don't
21:12 speak Greek. So I wanted to let you understand that the Holy Spirit in the
21:16 Greek is the paraclete. Everybody say paraclete. Now you are unfamiliar with
21:23 that word paraclete. Most of you have never spoken it before. You've never
21:27 heard it before. You are not familiar with it. But it is out of that word
21:31 paraclete that you get the same word, y'all ain't gonna believe it, out of
21:36 paraclete is where you get the word paramedic. Mm-hmm. Now paramedic, watch this,
21:42 is emergency intervention for a health crisis. I can't hear nobody. That there's
21:49 something that's going on with my body and I do not have time to go see a
21:54 doctor or make an appointment. What do I call a paramedic? And the paramedic is
22:00 different from your doctor. Why? Because the paramedic will come to your house. Now I
22:06 got you to understand how the paramedic works. The paramedic, watch this, does not
22:12 come in a Mitsubishi. It doesn't come in a Lexus. It doesn't come in a
22:17 Mercedes. The paramedic always comes in an ambulance. Now I need you to understand
22:23 that an ambulance is the exact same thing as a minivan. Say that again, pastor. An
22:29 ambulance is the exact same thing as a minivan. The wheelbase is the same. The
22:36 gas tank is the same. The axis is the same. Well pastor, what is the difference
22:42 between an ambulance, here it is, and a minivan? The only thing legally,
22:48 difference between an ambulance and a minivan is a siren. Mm-hmm. That until you
22:56 turn the siren on, it is just a minivan. But when you turn the siren on,
23:02 everything that's in the way has got to move out of the way. Some of y'all ain't
23:09 in no emergency, but God said if you need me to do something quick, turn your siren
23:17 off. If you need some stuff to be moved out of the way, turn! Hey, oh my God. Hey, oh my God. Be seated, please.
23:31 Hallelujah. Be seated, please. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Somebody get ready to get healed
23:39 real quick. Somebody, body, get ready to get restored real quick. Somebody in your
23:46 family, here's your shout. At home, it's about to get delivered. God said if you
23:52 open up your mouth, watch me do something that eyes haven't seen and ears haven't heard.
24:03 So, you don't know, you don't know what a paraclete is. You don't know what a
24:11 paraclete is. You don't speak Greek. Hallelujah. Some of you, because of good
24:14 health, you ain't never had to call a paramedic, but out of that word, a
24:19 paraclete is another word that I'm going to introduce you to, and it's out of the
24:24 word paraclete. Here, let me give it to you. It is the word parachute. Hallelujah.
24:30 Parachute is when you got to jump out of something. Hallelujah. Because if I stay
24:36 in this, I'm gonna crash. I can't hear nobody. Those of y'all who are stuck up,
24:42 you give me a mid-show breakthrough. God said when you jump in here today,
24:46 whatever you got to get out of, I'm getting ready to give you an emergency
24:52 exit. I need somebody who's getting ready to get out of that job. You get ready to
24:59 get out of that contract. You get ready to get out of that lease.
25:06 Okay, I'm almost there. You don't know paraclete. You don't know paramedics.
25:12 Hallelujah. You don't know parachute. Maybe you know paranormal.
25:18 Hallelujah. Paranormal, here it is, is stuff that is not regular. It's what eyes
25:25 haven't seen. It's what ears haven't heard. Look at your neighbor and tell them
25:31 what's getting ready to hit your life is not regular. What God is getting ready to
25:37 do for you, he's done it for nobody else in your family. Y'all better brace
25:43 yourself because this is getting ready to be the summer that God's getting
25:48 ready to do for you what you can't do for yourself. I can't hear no worshipers
25:53 in here. I need somebody to just point at your name and say, "Watch God do it."
25:58 Hallelujah. They called me on yesterday. They called me on yesterday. They did the
26:04 press did. They wanted to ask me what was my response about Joe Biden going to
26:10 Morehouse. I said, "Before I tell you about Joe Biden going to Morehouse, let me tell
26:15 you about me going to Morehouse." I want you to know I failed the 11th grade. They
26:21 kicked me out of high school. I went and got a GED. Never took the SAT in my
26:28 life and I had enough nerve to apply to Morehouse knowing that I was a dropout.
26:33 But when they called to say, "You've been admitted," I knew it wasn't by might. I knew it
26:41 wasn't by power, but I knew it was by his spirit. God said, "I need you to shout for
26:48 what you get ready to get. You ain't qualified for what you get ready to walk
26:55 into. Nobody thought you were gonna be able to have it. I got to give him glory
27:01 and I got to give him praise. He's been better to me than I've been to myself. I owe him the highest praise. I owe him.
27:15 Alright. Alright. Oh my God. I got to show you. I got to show you one last thing because you ain't
27:28 never heard of paraclete. You didn't know that was a Greek for the Holy Spirit.
27:33 And you already know, here it is, that when I got the Holy Ghost, I got a
27:36 paramedic. That help is on the way, but it ain't gonna happen quietly. Hallelujah.
27:44 When I got the Holy Ghost, I got a parachute. I'm getting ready to jump out
27:49 of stuff I was supposed to die in. I can't hear nobody when I got the Holy
27:53 Ghost. Hallelujah. I'm expecting the paranormal. Hallelujah. That I'm looking
27:59 for God to do miracle signs and wonders, but only one last thing comes out of the
28:05 word paraclete. The thing that comes out of the word paraclete that I wanted
28:10 you to have was paralyzed. Hallelujah. That you can't walk. That you can't move.
28:17 God said, "When you give me glory on Pentecost Sunday, I'm gonna paralyze the
28:23 enemy. That whatever has been chasing you is not gonna be able to come after you.
28:29 You want to know why I jumped the way I jumped? Because can't nobody do me like Jesus.
28:38 Can't nobody do me.
28:42 Hey, hey.
28:44 Ay-yi-yi-yi-yi.
28:46 Oh.
28:47 I feel glory coming here. Look at your neighbor and take your neighbor by the hand and say, "Neighbor, did you hear what pastor just said?
28:57 Your enemies have been paralyzed. The reason why I'm getting ready to move is
29:05 because the devil can't do me no harm. I need somebody to jump like you feel like it, run like you feel like it,
29:16 dance like you feel like it. He's able,
29:21 Hey. Oh.
29:23 He's able to keep me from falling and to present me faultless. I need you to grab that neighbor's hand
29:34 and say, "Neighbor, when I move, you move just like that. He's moving. He's moving. He's moving. He's moving.
29:50 He's moving. He's moving from heart to heart, from breast to breast. He's moving. I don't know how you're sitting still."
30:02 He said, "When you move, I'm going to heal your mama. When you move, I'm going to deliver your son.
30:10 When you move, I'm going to change your credit score. When you move."
30:16 Hey. Hey. Hey. I can't hear nobody. Hey.
30:26 Bring it to me, Robin. Come on. Look at somebody. Grab that neighbor by the hair and tell him he been too good for you to sit like that.
30:36 He been too good for you to be stuck up like that. He been too good not for you to open up your mouth.
30:45 But I can't because I've got a security blanket. He walks with me. He talks with me. He tells me.
31:04 I'm wrapped up. I'm tied up. I'm tangled up in Jesus.
31:23 I need you to lay hand on yourself and shout, "I'm covered. I'm covered." From the top of my head to the sole of my feet, I'm covered.
31:46 Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on us. Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on us. Spirit.
31:59 Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Oh my God. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
32:09 Lift up that hand. Oh my God. Lift up that hand. Hallelujah.
32:25 The Holy Ghost is not just to make you run. It's not just to make you scream.
32:37 The Holy Ghost is not just for your eyes to roll in the back of your head. I need that hand lifted.
32:44 I need the Holy Ghost because I need comfort. Because I'm falling apart.
32:54 I need comfort because I feel like I'm losing it. I need comfort because I'm out here by myself.
33:04 And He walks with me. He talks with me. He tells me I am His own.
33:15 And the joy we share. Sweet Terri there, none other has ever known.
33:24 I need that hand lifted because the comforter is coming. Hallelujah.
33:31 The comforter is coming so you don't lose your mind. Thank you, sir.
33:36 I said the comforter is coming so you can keep it together while you're under emotional duress.
33:45 The comforter is with you during the dark night of the soul.
33:51 I want that hand lifted. Watch this as high as you can.
33:56 For just 30 seconds, would you just open up your mouth? Come on, I need you to bless Him.
34:03 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people.
34:08 If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, seek my face, hear from heaven, I'm getting ready to heal the land.
34:24 Lift that hand, I'm going to speak something over your life.
34:30 I speak over every lifted hand.
34:34 God will give you comfort.
34:37 Nobody can tell you how long to grieve.
34:42 I speak over every lifted hand for those of you who feel neglected.
34:48 Emotionally and physically.
34:51 God will give you comfort.
34:55 For those who are contending, here it is, with the mental illness we never discuss.
35:01 The mental illness of loneliness.
35:06 Pray that God will give you comfort.
35:10 I pray that you'll feel His presence while you sleep tonight.
35:15 I pray that you'll feel His power while it is that you're moving in this place.
35:22 God, I need you to assign an angel over every person with a lifted hand.
35:29 Let them feel the power of your precious Holy Ghost.
35:34 Those of you who are grateful under God, I need you to know that the Holy Spirit is voice activated.
35:42 Would you open up your mouth and just begin to bless Him?
35:51 Come on, I can't hear anybody. I said open up your mouth.
35:56 Come on, where are my worshipers?
36:00 Come on, come on.
36:03 I feel better!
36:06 I feel better!
36:10 I feel better. Hallelujah.
36:13 I need you to do me a favor. Would you just embrace two people around and tell them it's going to get better for you?
36:19 It's going to get better.
36:22 It's going to get better.
36:26 The hell of the sin is going to get better.
36:31 It's going to get better.
36:35 The paraclete is here.
36:39 It's going to get better.
36:44 It's going to get better.
36:46 It's got to get better.
36:48 It's going to get better.
36:51 It's going to get better.
36:55 It's going to get better.
37:04 Everything you've been going through.
37:08 Because Jesus is there for you.
37:13 It's nothing in your situation.
37:17 You ought to lift your hands and your faith and say
37:21 Let your faith rise in the moment and say
37:25 Thank you Jesus. Thank you Jesus.
37:30 You are there. You're right there with me.
37:34 I'll lift up my siren. I know you're coming.
37:38 I'll lift up my siren. I know you're coming.
37:42 Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.
37:46 Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.
37:49 You're going to get better.
37:53 And it won't always be like this.
38:02 The Lord, the prophet, that concerned me.
38:10 Sooner or later, turn in my favor.
38:20 It's turning around for me.
38:30 And it won't always be like this.
