00:23feel good. Amen. Now, don't

00:31Amen. I need you to keep it
00:33classy and sanctified. Amen.
00:36Luke chapter nineteen verses
00:38two through four.
00:42A man was there by the name of
00:45Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax
00:48collector and was wealthy. He
00:52wanted to see who Jesus was but
00:55because he was short, he
00:58couldn't see over the crowd.
01:02You may be seated.
01:09Why y'all laughing already? I
01:13ain't even said nothing. A man
01:16was there by the name of Zacchaeus.
01:18He was the chief tax collector
01:20and was wealthy. He wanted to
01:23see who Jesus was but because
01:26he was short, he couldn't see
01:29over the crowd. I want to
01:32preach today using as a subject.
01:34I'll go out of my way. I'll go
01:38out of my way. Would you look at
01:39the person beside you? Tell him
01:40that's the kind of person I am.
01:43Come on. Look at me. I tell him
01:45I'll go out of my way.
01:49Out of my way. Comrades, we
01:54occupy a culture of convenience.
01:59People have embraced the bare
02:03minimum. Doing an iota more than
02:08what is required for so many is
02:12exasperating. We have come to
02:16lower our standards to such a
02:18level that doing what is
02:21expected is tolerated. An
02:26invoice will come quicker than a
02:29volunteer. Instead of giving you
02:34a ride, they'll call you an Uber.
02:38When you need to talk, they'll
02:40insist that you just send them a
02:42text. Nobody wants to put in the
02:47hours, but everybody wants their
02:49check in minutes. This mindset is
02:55not reserved for teenagers, but
02:59has expanded to men who no longer
03:03want to pursue. It has moved its
03:06way to women who make demands
03:09while love remains a hostage.
03:14Four-star general Colin Powell
03:16once said the healthiest
03:18competition occurs when average
03:22people go above average effort.
03:28When you do more than is required,
03:31you will get more than what is
03:33expected. I want every person in
03:36the room, would you repeat after
03:38me? When you do more than what is
03:40required, you'll get more than
03:44what is expected. If there's a
03:47young person sitting near you,
03:49would you just tap them and repeat
03:51this? When you do more than what
03:53is required, you'll get more than
03:57what is expected. Now I want you
04:00to lay hands on yourself and make
04:02it personal. When I do more than
04:05what is required, I will get more
04:09than what I expected. Going out of
04:18your way is never an obligation.
04:22It is a sacrifice or a
04:27sacrificial act of love. People
04:31who go out of their way, they'll
04:34make sure that you've eaten when
04:37stress has devoured your appetite.
04:40People who go out of their way,
04:43they'll step out of a meeting just
04:46to take your call. People who go
04:49out of their way, they'll keep
04:52calling you even though you're too
04:54depressed to pick up. People who
04:58go out of their way, they'll take
05:00the blame just so you can get the
05:03credit. What is unfortunate that
05:06I've discovered is that many times
05:09they don't appreciate it until you
05:12stop doing it. But perhaps the
05:21anointing on your life is for you
05:25to go out of your way to show
05:29someone a better way. Unfortunately,
05:34if you're black in America, you have
05:36discovered for yourself that there are
05:39deranged individuals who will go out
05:43of their way to be disrespectful.
05:48They'll cut you off in traffic when
05:50they're not even in a rush. They'll
05:53circulate rumors that they know are not
05:56true. They'll oppose your ideas
06:00because of their own insecurity.
06:03They will hate on you simply because
06:06so many people love you. They act
06:10nasty because they are upset that you
06:13are so nice. But I want you to know,
06:17take this as a warning. You better be
06:21careful going out of your way
06:23mishandling God's people.
06:30God takes me seriously. Don't handle me
06:36loosely. Don't handle me casually.
06:39Don't think that you can get away with
06:42doing anything to me. Just because I
06:45didn't say nothing don't mean I didn't
06:47know what you did. I learned how to
06:50hold my peace.
06:57Speaking of which, I remember this
07:00meddlesome man who lived in Jericho
07:04back in the book of Luke, whose LinkedIn
07:08profile discloses that he was a top
07:10agent for the IRS. He was loathed by
07:15almost everyone for his excellence at
07:19being a menace. What you have to
07:22understand is that in Roman times, those
07:24who were tax collectors, hear this, those
07:27who were tax collectors did not have a
07:30salary. I'm going to give it to you again.
07:33If you were a tax collector for Rome, you
07:36did not have a salary. They set up the
07:40contract that whatever it is that you
07:43could get above the tax, you could keep
07:46for yourself. The Bible is very telling
07:50because it says in Luke chapter 19
07:52verse number 2, not only is he a tax
07:55collector, but he is wealthy. It's
07:59evident that he was a skillful at
08:02finessing people out of their funds. And
08:05I want you to know the people were not
08:07oblivious to what was taking place, but
08:12they were in a crosshair about what to
08:14do about him. Because while it is that
08:17he was robbing them blind in broad
08:20daylight, they couldn't do nothing
08:22because they weren't sure what was the
08:24actual tax and what was he pocketing for
08:28himself. So just imagine if you would for
08:32one moment, what is coursing through
08:34their minds when Jesus is coming to town
08:38and they see this conniving, thieving,
08:43scamming fool in their midst trying to
08:49get close to him. What they decided they
08:53were going to do is they were going to
08:55box him out and not let him get close to
08:59Jesus. I want to say this to you, you
09:02can't choose who's going to get close to
09:04God. It don't matter whether or not
09:08their lifestyle agrees with yours or
09:10their philosophy agrees with yours or
09:13their mindset mirrors yours, the people
09:16who you hate the most may need God the
09:19most. You got to stop blocking people.
09:24There's a day of reckoning how that they
09:28will in fact have to pay for how they
09:32treated you. People will only use certain
09:37people and you got to use, you got to be
09:40careful of people who see you as an ATM.
09:44They only come to withdraw power, to
09:48withdraw money, to withdraw sex. Those
09:52kind of people you got to stay away from
09:54because they have no moral fiber to make
09:58a deposit into your life. All of their
10:01relationships are transactional. They
10:04only look to see what they can take away
10:07from you but never see what they can
10:10pour into your life. But I want to say to
10:12somebody in this room, brace yourself
10:16because God is getting ready to send
10:19somebody into your life who is not
10:21trying to take anything from you. They
10:24are just trying to add to where it is
10:27that you are going. Y'all don't believe
10:30it? Can I tell you who God is getting
10:33ready to send might be sitting on your
10:35road right now and here you are, you
10:38ain't even spoke to them, you ain't even
10:40looked in their direction. You act as if
10:43they don't matter. You better be careful
10:46how you treat folks because you might be
10:49entertaining angels unaware. They are
10:53assigned to improve your life because so
10:57many people have depleted your life.
11:03They made up in their minds that they
11:06were not going to let Zacchaeus get
11:09close to God so they botched him out
11:13because he was short, small in stature, he
11:18couldn't see over the crowd. How about I
11:21want you to know that he was not just
11:23short physically, he was short morally.
11:27Because he was short morally it was hard
11:31for him to see Jesus but because nobody
11:35would make space for him. I want you to
11:38see the industrious nature of Zacchaeus
11:41is that even though people blocked him
11:44out he would not give up. Ladies and
11:47gentlemen I'm talking to somebody in
11:49this room who has made up in your mind
11:52it don't matter how many people don't
11:54like me. It doesn't matter how many
11:57people are committed to not helping me.
12:00I am gonna find a way to make it to the
12:04top. If it's the last thing I do y'all ain't
12:08saying nothing. You got this far with no
12:11support. You got this far with no family.
12:14You got this far with no real friends
12:18but there was something inside of you
12:21that says I'm gonna let these fools block
12:24me. If it's the last thing I do I'm gonna
12:27start my business. I'm gonna own a house.
12:29I'm gonna raise my family. I'm gonna get my
12:32degree because I'm gonna do whatever it
12:35takes to get to the top. So this crowd
12:42blocked Zacchaeus and when they blocked
12:45him I want you to see that he ran ahead
12:48of the crowd and saw a sycamore tree. A
12:53sycamore tree in Palestine arises to
12:57between 70 and 100 feet and he's short
13:01in stature. He doesn't have a ladder. He
13:04doesn't have anybody that's gonna give
13:06him a boost. He said I'm gonna climb it
13:09and then climbing that tree you gotta
13:12understand he had to lift his own weight.
13:16Michelle Obama said when they go low we
13:19go high and the reason why he did that
13:22people don't understand what makes you
13:24so strong is you've had to lift your own
13:28weight. God I can't hear nobody. Do you
13:31know how heavy it's been for you to
13:34claim? You had to lift yourself above
13:38childhood trauma. You had to lift
13:41yourself over rejection. You had to lift
13:45yourself over what other people think
13:48about you. You had to lift yourself
13:51even when you didn't feel like you were
13:54beautiful. You had to lift yourself out of
13:57trauma. You had to lift yourself out of
14:00depression. You are asking me what makes
14:04me so strong? It's I don't live for other
14:08people's opinion. I just keep lifting
14:11myself.
14:15You have to lift yourself over memories.
14:21You have to lift yourself over what people
14:24thought about you. You have to lift
14:27yourself above what it is that was
14:29written in the report and you don't even
14:32understand you still climbing. You are
14:36not a chump or a pushover. As a matter of
14:39fact I don't mean to brag but I'm the
14:41strongest person I know. Regular people
14:45if they had to live a life in my shoes
14:48they would have committed suicide. But I
14:52get up every morning telling the devil
14:55hit me with your best shot. You think I'm
14:58gonna cry cause you don't speak to me?
15:01You think I'm gonna lose my mind cause
15:04you ignoring me? All my life I had to
15:08fight but I'm still pulling myself up.
15:15He pulls himself up. And why does he pull
15:23himself up? He pulls himself up because
15:28he needed to see God from a different
15:30perspective. This week I had to fly to
15:34Houston. When I was flying to Houston the
15:37flight was delayed. I fell asleep on the
15:39plane. Woke back up and we are finally
15:41circling to come down into
15:45Intercontinental Airport. And ladies and
15:48gentlemen we are descending into Houston.
15:50And while I'm descending into Houston I
15:53noticed how small the Morgan Chase Tower
15:56was. Descending into Houston got no idea
16:02how small the Wells Fargo Plaza looked.
16:06How small the Christ Church Cathedral
16:10appeared to me. Because I was at such a
16:14high level. The stuff I used to look up
16:18to was now beneath me. I don't know where
16:23you are but God says I need you to start
16:26looking at your problems from a
16:28different level. Your bill is small. The
16:33tumor is small. The scratch on your car
16:38is small. I serve a God that sits high and
16:44looks low. I don't know where you are but
16:47God said if you give me glory your
16:50problem just got smaller. If you lift me
16:54up what you are dealing with is beginning
16:58to shrink in size.
17:06Hallelujah. You may be seated.
17:11Hallelujah. He climbed up in the sycamore
17:16tree and that doesn't excite you.
17:20Seventy feet in the air did he climb in
17:24the sycamore tree and it don't mean
17:26nothing to you. You sitting there quiet
17:29because you haven't understood yet the
17:32value of the sycamore tree. Seventy to a
17:36hundred feet in the air and Zacchaeus
17:39starts climbing it. It doesn't make any
17:42sense to you until you discover that
17:46violins are made from the wood of a
17:49sycamore tree. God help me.
17:53That cellos are made from the wood of a
17:57sycamore tree. That guitars are made from
18:02the wood of a sycamore tree. So every
18:05time he climbed in the sycamore tree a
18:08sound was made. I can't hear nobody
18:12because you can't go up in silence. When
18:16you get ready to go to another level a
18:20sound is going to come out of you that
18:24other folk are not going to be able to
18:26wrap their mind around. If you plan on
18:30staying where you are don't climb this
18:33tree with us. But if you know my body is
18:37an instrument when I'm getting closer to
18:40where God is I got to make a joyful
18:44noise. Be seated please. And so he's
18:49climbing the sycamore tree and what is
18:53amazing is that the wood in a sycamore
18:55tree while solid is shallow and has an
18:58echo. So everybody else who was gathering
19:01around to see God aren't saying anything.
19:04But while he's going up there's a sound
19:09that's taking place. He couldn't sneak up
19:12the tree. Y'all ain't saying nothing to me
19:15because there was a sound that was
19:17coming. Ladies and gentlemen I gotta go
19:20but there's some of you who are in this
19:22room who trying to figure out why we
19:25shout in the way we shout. It's because
19:27you ain't never been boxed out. It's you
19:31ain't never had doors shut in your face.
19:33You ain't never been rejected while you
19:37were qualified. You never had family
19:40members think they could choose who God
19:43was gonna bless. But those that have
19:46come in church today that said I'll go
19:49out of my way to bless him. Cause I gotta
19:53give God's attention. Would you do me a
19:56favor just get in his face and make some
20:00noise where you're at. That I got to be in
20:04this conference. Hey. I'm not shy. Oh. Oh
20:11my God. Hey. I'll go out of my way to bless
20:17him. Hallelujah. I don't just praise him
20:20in church. But if you check me out at
20:24Target. I wasn't sure my car was gonna go
20:28through. I didn't have enough money for
20:31gas in my car. I didn't know how I was
20:34gonna feed my babies. You think I'm gonna
20:37come in church and get caught up in you
20:40rolling your eyes. I'll go out of my way
20:45just to bless. Hey. Hey.
20:55Said I'll go out of, I'll go out of my way
20:59to bless him. And Jesus is walking along
21:03with thousands of people out in the
21:07street. Having no idea they done blocked
21:10Zacchaeus out. But while Jesus is walking
21:14he looks up and sees a man in the tree.
21:18There are thousands of people there. But
21:21he only sees the one, y'all got it, who
21:25goes out of their way. God tell me those
21:28of y'all trying to be cute, this ain't
21:30your day. But God said if you go out of
21:34your way to bless me, I see you
21:37struggling. I see you fighting for your
21:41life. I see you depressed. I see you
21:45always trying to go forward while
21:48Negroes are pushing you backward. I see
21:51you.
21:54Hallelujah.
21:57Says I am only gonna bless people who
22:03go out of their way. I'm coming back to
22:06our text in two minutes. I need to make
22:11a slight detour. I need to make a slight
22:14detour and I'm coming. I'm coming back to

22:19make a slight detour. The Lord told
22:22Abraham, sacrifice your son to prove to
22:28me that you trust me with everything.
22:31You had to wait 100 years to get him.
22:35Now I need you to sacrifice him. Abraham
22:39said, Lord I trust you. Y'all ain't saying
22:42nothing. So he told Isaac, let's go up to
22:44the mountain. They got to the top of the
22:47mountain and I want you to hear what
22:48Isaac says. Isaac says, I see the fire. I
22:53see the rope. Y'all ain't saying nothing.
22:56And I also see the wood. I got to pause
23:00here because you never asked what kind
23:02of wood it was. Because going up to the
23:06top of that mountain grew sycamore
23:09trees. So it was the wood of a sycamore
23:13tree that Abraham was taken up for a
23:16sacrifice. I don't know where my
23:18worshipers are, but God said if you go
23:21out of your way to bless me, you won't
23:24lose your son. If you go out of your way
23:28to bless me, whatever's going on with
23:31your child, I end the attack today. If you
23:36go out of your way.
23:43I'm coming. I'm coming to the text. I'm
23:49coming to the text in one minute and 30
23:53seconds. I'll be at our text. For all of
23:57your years being in church, all of your
24:00years in church, you've heard the
24:02preacher tell you that they hung him
24:05high. They stretched him wide. He hung
24:09his head and then he died. But you never
24:14pause to ask what kind of wood was used
24:21to make the cross. God, I can't hear
24:24nobody. I hate to tell you, I wish I had
24:28some people in here that the wood they
24:30used to make the cross was from a
24:33sycamore tree. At the cross, at the cross
24:38where I first saw the light in the bed.
24:47Of my heart, it rolled away. I'm back in

24:57need you to be seated. I got to show you
24:59this one glaring point and then I'm
25:02finished. Says I'm getting ready to go
25:06out of my way to bless some people in
25:13this room. I'm getting ready to go out of
25:16my way to bless some people who are
25:19watching online. I'm getting ready to go
25:22out of my way for somebody who's
25:25sitting in front of you. Jesus is
25:28walking that day amongst the throngs of
25:31thousands of them and he doesn't speak
25:34to not near one of them until he sees
25:38that short man in the tree. And he says
25:42something to the tree, to the man that's
25:44in the tree that I didn't want you to
25:46ignore today. He said come down.
25:50Hallelujah. I need you to come down
25:55because I don't ever want you to think
25:58you are above God. God, I can't hear
26:02nobody. Humble yourself. Come down. You
26:07ain't that cute. You ain't that smart. You
26:10ain't that connected. You ain't that
26:12wealthy. Come down. I'm trying to figure
26:17out how you are in the presence of God
26:19and you ain't worshipped him all day. God
26:22ain't your equal. You gotta humble
26:25yourself and come down. Hallelujah.
26:31Worship requires of us for us to lower
26:34ourselves and to be in his presence and
26:38so many people can praise him but not
26:40too many people can worship him because
26:43when I worship him I'm mindful that I am
26:45created just a little bit lower than the
26:48angels. Hallelujah. I know some of y'all
26:51are too bougie to give God worship but
26:54if I can just pause for 30 seconds, those
26:57of you that don't mind humbling yourself
27:00in his presence, would you just take 30
27:03seconds and worship? Come down!
27:10Hallelujah. Come on, is that all you got?
27:14Come down. I know you in the C-suite.
27:19Come down. I know you begging six figures.
27:23Come down. I know you in a 7,000 square
27:28foot home. You better come down. Come
27:31down before he brings you down. Lower
27:34yourself. You only got five seconds left.

27:44you are that you can't give him glory?
27:48That you can't give him honor? Come on,
27:52open up your mouth. From the rising of the
27:55sun to the going down of the sun, he is
27:58worthy to be praised. There is a name
28:01that is above everything. At the name of
28:05Jesus, every knee must bow. Every tongue
28:08must, and you still ain't doing nothing.
28:11Come down! Who am I that you are mindful
28:15of me? That you created me just a little
28:18bit lower than the angels? Come down!
28:25At what point in your life, at what point
28:28in your life did you stop kneeling in
28:31prayer that you felt so comfortable
28:34praying while in the bed? At what point
28:40did you get so professionally posh that
28:45you no longer said grace at corporate
28:47luncheons? At what point did you make up
28:53in your mind going to church once a
28:56month was enough? At what point do all
29:02God has done for you? Is it that you now
29:06feel like you can judge other people
29:09just because their issue ain't your
29:12issue? Come on, I can't hear nobody. The
29:16Bible said your righteousness is like a
29:19filthy rag. Jesus said come down, and he
29:27says something that he says to nobody
29:31else in the crowd, and he says it to
29:35those of you who are in this room, for
29:38those of you who are online. He said come
29:41down, I have an appointment. God help me.
29:46How would you lift up that hand? I'm
29:48finished. He said come down, I have an
29:52assignment. I wonder how many of you
29:55gonna respond to it. The Bible opens our
29:58text today that Jesus is just passing
30:02through. This is not his assignment, he's
30:06on his way somewhere else. But because he
30:11saw that man went up in a tree and went
30:14out of his way, Jesus said I'm gonna go
30:17out of my way. Here's your last shout for
30:20today. I want to make an announcement to
30:23you, the same announcement that he made
30:25to Zacchaeus. He said I, here's your shout,
30:29am on my way to your house.
30:36Oh my God.
30:44I can't hear nobody. God said if you give
30:48me glory in my house, by the time you get
30:53to your house, everything in your house
30:57is gonna be turned right side up. I'm on
31:02my way to your house. The angelic GPA
31:09system, the angelic GPS system is now
31:13calibrated. I want you to speak your
31:16address out loud. I said speak your
31:20address out loud. God said here it is, it's
31:24gonna mess you up. I don't want you to
31:27worship me like you at New Birth. Would
31:31you say pastor, don't worship me like
31:33you at New Birth. I want you to worship
31:36me like I'm cleaning out your house.
31:39That every file and trite spirit that
31:43don't belong in your house, it's about
31:47to be evicted. Go out of your way.
31:52Hallelujah. It's gonna make you tight
31:56now. Says I need you to go out of your
31:59way. Cause I wasn't even planning on going
32:02to your house. But because you worship
32:05me like that, I'm getting ready to walk
32:08around in your living room. God I can't
32:11hear nobody. I'm getting ready to pull
32:13your child out of that room. I'm getting
32:16ready to handle whatever's going on in
32:18your husband. Whatever it is that's going
32:21on with your sister, I'm a deal with it.
32:24I don't need y'all to shout like you at
32:27New Birth. I want to give the devil the
32:30black eye. Would you walk around in this
32:33church like you walking around your
32:36house. Your refrigerator will never be
32:39empty. There'll never be violence in your
32:43living room. There'll never be arguments
32:46in your bedroom. God fill this house.

33:09out of his way to bless you. He's going
33:12out of his way to heal you. He's going
33:16out of his way to mend your marriage.
33:20He's going out of his way to call your
33:24son. He's going out of his way to find you

38:06Come on, go out of your way and clap your hand right where you are. Listen to me.
38:12Incline your ear. Listen to me. Listen to me. They tried to box Zacchaeus out, but
38:22he got to God anyway. He wasn't deserving. He did a whole lot of stuff, but he still
38:29deserved grace. He still deserved an opportunity to sit with the Savior.
38:35Ladies and gentlemen, there's some people who are getting ready to come to this
38:38altar because they need to get a different perspective of God. They need a
38:45closer walk with him. They've been boxed out. They've been alienated, but in spite
38:51of it, they fought their way through, and they got the church on
38:56today. I don't want you to be a hindrance or an obstacle to somebody
39:01getting closer to God. You don't know how desperately they need this chance
39:06encounter. Wherever you are in this place, wherever you are in this room, you're
39:12saying, Pastor, you have no idea how you read my mail this morning. You didn't
39:18knock on the door. You don't kick the door down. You went to ops. Who are you? I
39:22don't know where you are. Listen to me. I want you to go out of your way to get
39:27to God today. I want you to go out of your way. I know nothing in you
39:32want to stand in front of all these people. Nothing in you wants to walk down
39:36this aisle. Nothing in you wants to, in fact, make the adjustment and ask people
39:41to excuse you, but I want you to go out of your way. Wherever you are in this
39:47room, listen to me, and you know you need a church where you're able to see
