Tigirlily Gold caught up with Billboard's Lyndsey Havens at the ACM Awards 2024.
Transcript
00:00 We're here with Tiger Lily Gold. How's it going tonight?
00:02 So good. We just won our first ACM award and then we get to play on the show tonight.
00:08 So we're so excited for that performance and just to watch all of our favorite artists.
00:12 Yes.
00:12 How does it feel to show up to the award show where you have already been a winner?
00:16 I will say it's a little more relaxing.
00:17 I'm actually nervous being like, "What is it gonna be? What's it gonna be?"
00:21 What's gonna happen? It's really nice to really feel that validation after being a band for 11
00:26 years to have the country music community say, "Hey, we believe in what you're doing."
00:30 There hasn't been this category, the new group duo category for I think five years maybe.
00:35 So happy it's back.
00:36 For them to bring it back to win this award, it's just such a rare thing to happen.
00:40 And so we're so grateful to be in this position and bring duos and groups back to country music,
00:46 baby.
00:46 Come on.
00:47 Well, yes. I was going to ask, I think across the board, music has become a very solo artist,
00:52 predominantly at the forefront. Why are you so excited to have more duos and groups dominating
00:56 that format?
00:57 It's such an important part of country music history and we're sisters.
01:00 So that family tradition is the backbone of country music along with songwriting.
01:04 I mean, we grew up listening to Rascal Flat, Sugar Land, Lady A, Little Big Town.
01:10 We loved listening to the records to groups that had harmony, the Judds, the Chicks.
01:14 And so there's not many genres that do harmony like country music.
01:18 Yes.
01:18 And it's so important.
01:19 And you need a little, you need more than one person to do harmony.
01:22 We hope to carry that tradition on.
01:24 And I'm a firm believer that sibling harmonies sound better than any other harmony out there.
01:28 She is the absolute best at harmony.
01:30 She knows what I'm going to do before I do it and the way she can follow my voice.
01:33 It's the blood harmony thing.
01:35 I don't know what it is yet.
01:36 Do you have a favorite sister duo in music?
01:38 Well, the first one that pops into my mind is like Ali and AJ.
01:42 Literally, Ali and AJ.
01:45 Obviously, like the Judds mom and daughter.
01:47 But they set precedent for what a female duo in country music should look like.
01:52 And Wynonna commented on our picture the other day and she said, "Carry the torch, girls."
01:57 And I feel such a responsibility after her saying something like that.
02:02 I know they're not sisters, obviously, but just the family tradition of country music
02:06 is so important to us.
02:07 And man, we're just so happy to be here at the ACM Awards.
02:12 First nomination, first win, first major performance.
02:15 It's a great day.
02:16 It's amazing.
02:17 Are you wearing gold because of the occasion or is this always going to be the vibe on carpet?
02:22 It was our first...
02:23 No, it's not going to always be the vibe.
02:25 We've done a couple other carpets and we've never actually worn gold before.
02:29 But since it's our first nomination for the ACM Awards as a group, we said, "Hey,
02:33 let's lean into the name and have a Tiger Early gold moment."
02:36 But yes, we will be wearing different other colors in the future.
02:39 Yes, there will not be always gold.
02:41 Just in the name.
02:42 All right, well, have so much fun tonight.
02:45 Thank you for stopping by and congratulations.
