Mattel Masters Of The Universe Cartoon Collection Stratos Figure
Transcript
00:00 Filmation may have given him flight but it was Mattel that gave him the figure.
00:04 Here's a look at the brand new Mattel He-Man in the Master Universe cartoon
00:07 collection Stratos winged warrior.
00:11 It's an exciting time to be a Master Universe fan. For longtime fans and for
00:27 new generation of kids who love action adventure it's time to experience the
00:31 thrilling action adventure of He-Man's Skeletor, the secrets of Castle
00:34 Grayskull and much more. The figure in this collection stands 5.5 inches tall
00:37 and has 16 movable joints so they're highly poseable for imaginative and
00:41 action-oriented fun. Grabbing first a tape measure to see what He-Man's fine
00:45 feathered friend stands at. Looking at the tape measure he is about five and
00:50 three-quarters of an inch in height even though the read up online says five and
00:53 a half. Stratos clearly seems to be taller than that and that works out to
00:56 be a figure that's 15 centimeters tall. What's actually interesting about
00:59 Stratos is that he has red wings and why that's a big deal is because not only in
01:03 the cartoon did he have red wings but if you look at the original origins figure
01:06 and even the vintage version of Stratos before that he would have been released
01:09 with blue wings so it's interesting that they in fact flipped not only his wings
01:13 around the proper cartooned accurate colors but also as well his armor. You
01:17 see in the original origins would have been a red armor it should really be
01:20 blue. The cartoon does a better job of doing that. Let's bring in a couple of
01:23 the other cartoon collection figures. We did this similar with Merman although we
01:27 brought in all the villains. Let's bring in some of the masters. So here's what he
01:30 looks like with He-Man and both He-Man and Man-at-Arms. In this case they're all
01:34 using the exact same body. They're not obviously using the exact same body when
01:37 it comes to female figures as once again bringing in Tila a reminder to me at
01:41 least that they're using all the wrong size scale. They're still using I feel
01:46 unfortunately the absolute wrong size using the origins body for the female
01:49 figures so it does make Tila though a slightly smaller figure because of that.
01:53 Here's also as well what the figure looks like if I get back in there. He's
01:56 not Revelation though but here's what he looks like with a Masterverse version of
01:59 Stratos also having red wings. For Stratos' accessories he has one less
02:04 than Merman. Merman came included not only with the Pearl of Power but also
02:08 his trident. Stratos unfortunately though only comes included with the staff of
02:11 Avion just before we look at that in fact. Let's look at the one thing of all
02:15 the things I'm gonna be throwing away and by throwing away I mean the
02:18 recycling bin. We're never gonna throw paper back in the garbage. You get
02:21 yourself of course the paper insert. I just again feel it's not only a waste of
02:24 paper but a waste of ink and pressing this. That just to tell us that once
02:28 again the head and the arms the lower torso and the boots I mean these are all
02:32 things that we know by now but I guess let's just look into this as a blank
02:35 slate. If you're a new time collector maybe you'd be interested to know that
02:38 you could remove the things and it does tell you at the top there anyway so it's
02:41 not just a case they took a black and white image of Stratos and then you have
02:44 to kind of figure out what am I looking at here? Is this a riddle? Is this a
02:47 puddle? Is this something I have to figure out first before I can actually
02:49 start to play with the figure? No, it does tell you in top corner. This though is
02:53 gonna get shot right into the recycling bin. Okay I just missed the recycling bin.
02:58 I'll have to pick that up a little bit later. What though won't be going in the
03:01 recycling is though the same comic that we got included with Merman once again
03:05 titled Perilous Power. Perilous Power does feature the two predominant
03:09 characters that part of this wave. Stratos in the bottom corner, Merman in
03:12 top corner, then on the back advertised the other cartoon collection figures
03:15 Teela, too small of a body Teela, and Trapjaw with a moving jaw that didn't
03:19 actually move in his review. And then the inside of this, for a second I'll want
03:24 to start flipping this through from the back forward. You ever do that? You ever
03:28 start something at the back of the book? Usually it's like catalogs for me. Like I
03:31 always seem to start the back of the book because I kind of know okay that's
03:34 where we're gonna be leaving things off and I kind of work my way to the front.
03:37 Is that a little weird? It's probably a little bit weird but if we were to look
03:40 at the back it seems that he meant is thanking Stratos. It says power for
03:44 powers, sake is dangerous, all too often it becomes a tool for evil. That's very
03:49 wise, it's very deep. But the artwork once again is really good on these. I
03:52 always like to hold on to these and these will be going in. I just got a
03:55 little ziplock bag that keeps basically all the mini comics. That's where I'll be
03:59 storing this along the earlier look that one that came with Merman, even though
04:02 really it's the exact same one. Going back though to the Staff of Avion, the
04:06 figure comes in clear with this. Now the Staff of Avion though is advertised in
04:11 an episode. I mean specifically on the packaging is Reign of the Monster but I
04:14 I'm certain I've seen him use this staff in more than just the one episode.
04:18 It's molded here in gold plastic, the plastic like the Trident for Merman.
04:22 Actually let's bring in the Trident right now. Similar size, maybe if anything
04:27 you would say the staff is slightly longer but it's a nice molded. I mean
04:30 look at the top of this. I think also marking the first time that Stratos is
04:34 actually coming clear with accessories. If you don't really count the thing on
04:36 the back of his body, I mean I don't think the original origins and for that
04:40 matter even the original vintage Stratos would have came in clear with any
04:42 accessories. So this is a nice treat to actually get him coming clear with
04:45 something. The figure though has means on both of his hands unlike the original
04:49 origins figure that would have actually had the relaxed hand on one side. Cartoon
04:53 collection Stratos on the other hand, both of them in fact, do have gripping
04:57 varieties. So you can actually have him holding it on both sides. You can either
05:00 choose to have the staff in one hand or you can bring the staff around and meet
05:05 in the middle. You can also have him holding it in both hands. Well it's not
05:09 very easy when I do it that way. Just clip it in both of his hands. You can
05:12 have the figure displayed with that. Likely gonna be the route I'm gonna be
05:15 going just because again it's a nice welcome treat to actually get something
05:18 included with the figure. So yeah, nice looking way of displaying him. Let's just
05:22 take this right off right now. We're gonna put it off to the side. Something
05:25 though I did say earlier was the praise the fact the figure actually comes in
05:28 clear with red wings. It's not really a big thing. I mean obviously if you have
05:31 the original vintage figure or the closest one in this case, the origins
05:35 figure, would have had blue wings. Basically everything about the figure is
05:38 flipped around except really for his head and obviously the coloring of his
05:41 body. He also has, as you can see there on the back, instead of the jet pack being
05:45 the red, the original vintage and the origins would have that. The cartoon
05:49 always depicted those Stratos with the blue jet pack so he has that nice
05:52 instead. One thing that's a little bit missing though if you're so used to the
05:55 idea of Stratos' body is that he's missing his furry body. He's much smoother
06:00 this time around so he doesn't have as much the sculpting. There's no fur
06:03 anywhere on the front of his body. Think in fact the same body that they used for
06:07 Beastman. Now that I think about it, obviously he doesn't have the hairy arms either as
06:10 well and instead of having gloves, although this time the original origins
06:14 figure would have only had it sculpted in, this just has the hands so I'm
06:18 assuming these aren't gloves at all. These are just regular Stratos' hands. I
06:21 mean the figure looks good but it doesn't have as much going on with it
06:25 just because even without the fur now being missing, it's always the one thing
06:28 I always think of when I think of Stratos, his figure comes across a little, I don't
06:32 wanna say boring because he's definitely not boring. I love the way they sculpted
06:35 the wings first of all. Those are nicely done. These are soft plastic by the way.
06:38 The jetpack on the back looks good too. This by the way doesn't look like it can
06:42 be removed the easiest way. You'd have to probably take the arms, pop them off
06:46 both sides, pop the head off and just basically just move the entire top torso
06:50 piece off. If you want to do that of course, I mean obviously just doing all
06:54 that would basically just result in the figure just being the basic grey plastic
06:57 body underneath. The exact same body we've gotten already for both He-Man and
07:00 Man-in-Arms. Jetpack looks good though. It looks like they probably glued the
07:04 jetpack back onto the actual bandolier strap. The only fact, the only place he
07:09 actually has fur is on his loincloth and they've got the additional red belt
07:13 there on the top. Again, the Origins figure would have had the colors there
07:15 matching the same way. The only other thing that's also on the newer version
07:19 of the cartoon collection, first the original Origin Stratos would have had
07:23 just bare feet or we would assume that these are bare feet. I can't imagine he's
07:26 just walking around with grey shoes that just happen to match the colors of his
07:29 legs. This version of Stratos now has red boots and again it's a nice looking, a
07:33 nice welcome treat really. I think in fact, now I'm just gonna grab off
07:36 Skeletor and bring him in. Yeah, it's using the exact same legs as Skeletor, the exact
07:41 same boots at least and I would imagine based on the way that Filmation used a
07:44 lot of the same kind of similar models that they're probably gonna be seeing
07:47 these boots again with future figures. Now for the figures articulation, Stratos
07:52 which although we didn't really spend a whole lot of time talking about his head
07:54 sculpt, he has again like a little goatee beard down below here. It's a little
07:58 weird. I always kind of thought that Stratos looked a little bit like an
08:02 Amish person. I'm not saying that in a negative way, just the fact that like
08:06 when I think of someone that has a beard that doesn't have a top mustache, I always
08:10 tend to think of the Amish. Is that weird? Maybe it's a little bit weird. He has the
08:13 goggles, those are nicely again molded and sculpted. You got the blue nicely
08:16 outlined here with the goggles part, at least the goggles part being more of the
08:20 darker black. It looks good. I mean it really looks good but it's always like
08:23 Stratos is one of those characters even when it comes to the Origins figures, the
08:26 closest thing I have to the original Vintage line, Stratos always tends to be a
08:30 character that sits in the background and like the more predominant figures
08:32 always sit in the front. Sorry Stratos, you're probably going to be doing the
08:35 exact same when it comes to the cartoon release. Now for the again the
08:38 articulation, this guy's gonna have the ball joint so it allows the head to
08:40 rotate all the way around. Head looks up, down and back and forth. There as well.
08:46 You can easily bring the arms out. They're a little more on the tighter
08:49 side but again they're much rather tighter joints than overly loose joints.
08:51 The arms also rotate all the way around. You're not gonna have any real problems
08:54 butting up against say for example a jetpack or having the wings for that
08:58 matter rubbing up against anything. You can easily rotate them all the way
09:01 around. Now the figure doesn't have say the bicep swivel but what he does have
09:05 is the next best thing, a swivel back and forth here on the elbow which also gives
09:08 him a granted hinge joint. We can bend the elbow back and forth. Hands rotate
09:12 also all the way around. The figure does have a waist swivel and again all these
09:16 things that I'm talking about right now, I mean I'm just dribbling away of talking
09:19 about the posability points, they're all the exact same on all the female figures.
09:23 All the male figures. The female figures are pretty much the same similar idea as
09:26 well. Ball joints there at the base where basically the thighs attached on to the
09:30 lower abdomen area. You can take his legs moving forward, moving back.
09:33 Yeah all that same stuff. A little bit of a swivel there. Single hinge only on the
09:37 knee allows the lower leg at least to rotate. Because now this is an additional
09:41 boot piece that the original Stratos wouldn't have had. Normally he would have
09:44 had an ankle pivot down below, hinge joint back and forth this way and he
09:47 still has that but now he has the benefit of boots so you can rotate those
09:51 also back and forth as well. I like the look of Stratos. I mean he's one of those
09:54 characters that when you think of the Master Universe he may not be like the
09:58 top three but he's always a character that ends up making appearances in
10:01 people's collections. I'm glad that we finally now have ourselves a Stratos
10:04 and I'm glad for that matter that we also have ourselves a Stratos that has
10:08 the more cartoon accurate colors. More so the fact that the, especially when it
10:11 comes with the bandolier armor for example like the original, if I just give
10:14 him this stand here, the original Origins Stratos did have the red straps for
10:19 example with some additional feathering added in there as well. Stratos basically
10:23 takes that color scheme and flips it around so now he has red wings on the
10:25 sides and a blue bandolier belt on the front and again that's one thing too
10:29 when it came to the new Eternia, the Masterverse version of Stratos, he
10:32 carried over the color scheme accurately as well using again the red wings, the
10:35 blue belt there on the front of his bit of his armor. Again I really like the
10:39 Stratos but I don't know if it would be one like if I was diehard collecting
10:43 yes I would collect everything and that's basically what I'm doing
10:45 collecting everything and everything that they're releasing for the
10:47 cartoon collection if though I was a very selective collector. Stratos would
10:52 be not one I would pick up right away. That's a figure I probably could wait a
10:54 little while. One thing also that Mattel did release as part of the Origins line
10:57 that you probably didn't see in this review and color scheme wise he wouldn't
11:00 have matched anyways was kind of the mini comic version of Stratos that kind
11:04 of went the lighter color of the skin tone wasn't the gray that we got here
11:08 is kind of more of a flesh tone Stratos. We did get that release I didn't just I
11:11 obviously didn't want to bring it in. Not only is he one of my least favorite
11:15 figures I have in the Origins line but he just doesn't look like Stratos so for
11:18 that reason I didn't bring him in for comparison's sake. Of course if you
11:21 wanted to you could always have bent the knees and bent the elbows for Stratos
11:24 that's across the board with all the other Mattel Universe figures too if you
11:26 want to give him the crouched 80s pose because those figures back in the day
11:29 would have not had elbow articulation or knee pose ability for that matter either.
11:32 I always usually just have the figures straight legged because it just obviously
11:36 proportionately makes them a look a little bit more in size with themselves
11:39 so it doesn't look like they're always just like those finger puppets. Remember
11:42 those WWF finger puppets where basically it was a squat Hulk Hogan squat macho man
11:47 why are we even talking about wrestling finger? Was it thumb fighters? What was
11:51 that line called? I had a few of them. I remember Rowdy Rowdy Piper I had him and
11:55 I had a macho man Randy Savage maybe even had Hulk Hogan at time. I always
11:59 like to play thumb wrestling with my friends. I know I'm getting a little off
12:02 topic but you know just to have the figures posed like that kind of does
12:06 look like those old WWF thumb wrestlers. Going back to Stratos though can we
12:11 please? Stratos again nice-looking figure I wouldn't be in any bit of a rush to
12:15 really grab this guy. I mean if you're one of those that think that after a
12:18 while these figures will be out of circulation usually is always the case
12:21 and you don't want to pay the prices that go along getting this guy in the
12:24 aftermarket then yes pick up Stratos as quickly as you can. I guess he is though
12:28 one of the the main OG members of the Master Universe clan for that reason I
12:32 think it's obviously up worth a pickup but not one that I'm gonna be picking up
12:35 right away if I was just casually collecting the line. As a side note it's
12:39 nice to see Stratos actually come included with an accessory this time if
12:42 you don't count the wings that he has on the sides of his arms and certainly the
12:45 big jetpack that he has on the back of his body. Because the parts can be mixed
12:49 and matched I'll also mention on the wasted bit of paper that comes included
12:52 with any of these figures anyways you can use the jetpack for another figure
12:56 instead. So similar to what Prime would have done with Sideswipe's jetpack and
13:00 the generation 1 transformers you can maybe do that with also He-Man. He-Man
13:03 has to stop the Skeletor at no matter the cost basically just steals Stratos'
13:08 jetpack and flies to the skies and there you go. What do you guys think of
13:12 Stratos? Let me know down below in the comment section. Have you guys already
13:14 had the chance to pick this guy up? I did actually find this one over at
13:17 Entertainment Earth. At the same time in fact I got this guy as Merman. I bought
13:21 myself an entire case. I say entire case like that sells it almost to the idea
13:25 that's probably like 10 figures inside. Case just basically meant four figures
13:28 because they didn't have the figures individually sold I think they were still
13:31 marked as pre-order. The only way that I could have got them from Entertainment
13:35 Earth was to get the case which meant one Stratos, two cartoon collection
13:39 Mermans and one fan favorite Triclops from the original origins line. That's
13:43 not a bad thing at all. All of those figures the two extra figures still
13:46 sealed on card were figures I would have wanted sealed on card anyways so it kind
13:50 of worked out as a bit of a blessing. But if you guys are interested I can
13:54 certainly put the link down below if they are still in stock usually those
13:57 case ones are always ones that sell out quick and then you have to then wait for
14:00 the pre-order of the individual figures but they if they are still available that
14:03 link will also save you 10% not only on the Motu stuff but anything that's
14:08 currently in stock at Entertainment Earth that affiliate affiliate link will
14:11 save 10% off your total purchase and of course always keep in mind as well that
14:16 $75 anything after $75 is free shipping so you can't beat that either. But what
14:22 have you guys been liking about this the cartoon collection? What are some of your
14:25 favorite figures from the cartoon collection line? Let me know down below
14:27 in the comment section. Now that we've wrapped up this wave which again was
14:31 Stratos and Merman I think my favorite my top three favorite would probably
14:35 still be Beastman, Merman. I really like Teela but I just wish that Teela could
14:39 have been a little bit bigger and Trapjaw probably would have
14:43 been my top three so Trapjaw, Beastman, Merman all funny enough villains but
14:49 what have been your favorites let me know down below and if you guys
14:51 certainly did of course enjoy this video and throw it a like. You guys loving the
14:54 content? I certainly hope so but if you want to stick around for more content
14:58 hit that subscribe button down below and of course as the always thing turn on
15:01 the bell notification. It seems like I know a two-step process why do we have
15:05 to do that if we've already hit the subscribe it's just to ensure it's to
15:08 let YouTube know that apparently you want to stick around you want to see
15:11 more content and it also gives this channel more exposure to people that
15:15 aren't currently subscribed so hitting that Bell notification does certainly
15:18 help this channel as well. More Mass Universe figure reviews coming your way
15:21 as always thanks for watching see you guys next time!
15:26 you
15:29 you
