Custom Christmas Blu-Ray Slipcovers From The Mockbuster!
Transcript
00:00 When it comes to custom cases, Christmas has come early.
00:04 Here's a look at a couple of custom slip cases by artist The Mockbuster.
00:15 If you'd like to follow the exploits of The Mockbuster, you can check him out over on
00:18 Instagram.
00:19 A talented artist that has been for a while been making slip covers for your movie cases
00:24 that you may not have slip sleeves for.
00:26 I had already looked at a couple of them that he was nice enough to send my way.
00:30 I'll in fact put that link down below in the video description.
00:33 And hey, why not?
00:34 I'll also put the link down below as well to his Instagram.
00:36 Feel free to give him a follow.
00:38 But I did reach out to him recently, in fact, asked him if there was a couple of projects
00:41 I could get him to work on for me, specifically and why I make reference to Christmas coming
00:46 early.
00:47 They're both Christmas movies, some of my all time favorites.
00:49 In fact, I had asked him if it was possible that he could do one for Christmas Evil and
00:54 for Silent Night Deadly Night.
00:55 Now, honestly, as well, we did get already releases of those from two different companies.
01:00 Silent Night Deadly Night, in fact, was given a deluxe treatment from Scream Factory and
01:05 Christmas Evil was given a vinegar syndrome release.
01:08 But again, not really happy with either one of those.
01:11 I thought it was prime time for an update.
01:13 I reached out to him and again, he was nice enough to produce two slip covers and one
01:18 insert cover for one of my Blu-ray cases specifically for Christmas Evil.
01:23 By the way, again, if you guys are interested, we'd like to follow him over on Instagram.
01:26 The prices, by the way, for these, as we'll delve more deeper into the box, I've already
01:29 taken the liberty of actually opening up.
01:31 I've taken the tape.
01:32 I couldn't resist.
01:33 I had to look inside.
01:34 Plus as well, Silent Night Deadly Night was only a slip.
01:36 Of course, I wanted to take myself a case to use that slip with.
01:41 But again, if you guys are interested, follow him over on Instagram.
01:44 The prices, by the way, for these, the insert case, the insert that will go inside of a
01:47 Blu-ray case is going to be about $6 American.
01:51 And then the actual slip cover is about $14.
01:53 So it works out to be about $20 if you guys are looking to upgrade your cases.
01:57 Having already probably snuck a bit of a peek inside, there was also again some extensive
02:01 packaging inside to have already taken, like I said, I took all this stuff.
02:04 I couldn't wait.
02:05 I couldn't wait.
02:06 But we're going to pull out the cases.
02:07 I'll show you guys exactly what we're doing here.
02:10 So the first thing I asked him to do was create a brand new slip cover for Silent Night Deadly
02:14 Night.
02:15 I'm going to put the other one over here.
02:16 I want to come back to that a little bit more in a moment.
02:18 We did already get though a deluxe treatment from the folks over at Scream Factory.
02:22 It was a fine case.
02:23 The problem with some of the cases though, they're not the most interesting.
02:26 And while though he doesn't own this actual image, we took this image from online, he
02:30 did though nicely replicate what would be a case had they used this artwork instead,
02:35 which I think is honestly a much better looking art style than just having Billy Chapman standing
02:39 in front of a Christmas tree.
02:41 By the way, on the back of them, they're somewhat similar to one another.
02:44 The only thing that's really different though, is that he only put the unrated version special
02:48 features, whereas this one would actually have disc one and disc two.
02:53 The artwork is exactly the same on the top.
02:54 I think in fact the read up is also exactly the same.
02:56 He had brightened this up a little bit too as well.
02:58 But I mean, just to look at the size here, you can see like they're not that much different
03:02 from really from one another.
03:04 This would be the brand new slip cover.
03:06 This would be the original.
03:07 The cardboard by the way on both of these, if I can just slide these off now, again,
03:11 I've already taken the liberty of, I already had two Scream Factories.
03:14 So what I'm going to do is still keep the original Scream Factory.
03:16 I'm not going to just throw it away, but I am going to keep one of them with the Scream
03:20 Cover, a Scream Factory cover.
03:23 And I'm going to use the newer one that Mockbuster had provided.
03:26 But I did want to show you though, the differences between the cardboard.
03:30 Thick cardboard on really both of them.
03:32 This is just a slight bit thinner, but you can see like it is still a very thick cardstock.
03:36 A nice looking slip cover.
03:38 Now again, this is one of the reasons why I've already taken the liberty of opening
03:40 up the box, just because again, like it only had really, though carefully packed, it didn't
03:45 have the case.
03:46 So I'm just going to take the case and slide it in there.
03:49 Definitely does look nice though.
03:51 Put that right over there.
03:52 And again, if you guys are interested, if you were just looking only just to get, like
03:57 for example, if you want to just, for example, the slip sleeve, the outer cover, for example,
04:01 that's going to be $14.
04:02 And then the insert, although I'm just using basically the original insert that came in
04:06 with the Scream Factory release.
04:07 If you did want something I'm sure similar to like this for insert, that'd be about
04:12 $6.
04:13 So to get both, which I ended up doing here for Christmas Evil, one of the main reasons
04:16 why in fact I reached out to Mockbuster was specifically, specifically Christmas Evil.
04:21 But again, really nice looking case.
04:22 I'm really happy with how this one turned out.
04:24 Ultimately though, I am going to be putting still both on the shelf, but I think really
04:27 between the two, this is a much nicer case.
04:29 That's Billy Chapman emerging, of course, atop of a chimney.
04:34 We've got Darlene.
04:35 Is that Darlene?
04:36 What's her name?
04:37 The one that gets impaled, of course, on the antlers horns.
04:39 Darlene?
04:40 It's going to come to me a little bit later.
04:42 Of course, there's Mother Superior there on the side.
04:45 Mr. Seams down below there with the hammer wedged into his head.
04:48 And there's Billy Chapman about to fire off the arrow inside of Iris' toy shop.
04:52 He knows when you've been naughty.
04:54 A really, again, nice looking case.
04:57 So again, we're just going to get my, I want to make sure this is completely slid all in
05:00 there.
05:01 So that's Silent Night, Deadly Night, and that's solely just the slip cover.
05:04 So we're going to put that right over there.
05:06 Again, my main reason for reaching out to Mockbuster in the first place was specifically
05:09 for Christmas Evil.
05:11 If you have collected Christmas Evil from Vinegar Syndrome, then you're probably already
05:14 familiar with this cover, which looks at all nothing, nothing like the original Harry,
05:20 nor does it look like anything you would expect to see in Christmas Evil.
05:23 Instead, it looks kind of like a green off-colored Santa Claus, and he's carrying around a bag
05:27 of toys.
05:28 Again, the reason why also I am using this is because I'm ultimately going to be using
05:33 the movie inside.
05:34 I think, in fact, the one from Vinegar Syndrome, yes, was a little snap cover.
05:38 So I'm going to probably, although I think the one that I have right now, the one that
05:42 he had provided, I think was only just a single case.
05:44 So I'm probably going to have to use this case and change out the insert.
05:47 So this is the original one, not fantastic.
05:50 I didn't, in fact, get the chance to get the one from Vinegar Syndrome that actually had
05:53 the outer slip cover, but that's okay.
05:55 I'm only going to be upgrading it anyways.
05:57 So this is what we have to work with from Vinegar.
05:59 This is what we got here from the Mockbuster.
06:02 Mockbuster, again, not his original artwork, but took an image from online.
06:07 Actually, this does have the original name for the movie, which was Better Watch Out,
06:11 which I always thought was a better name than Christmas Evil, but ultimately they chose
06:14 Christmas Evil instead.
06:15 You can see there's Harry now on the top.
06:17 Now, again, looking at the two, come on, really?
06:20 Harry now is featured with one of his toy soldiers that, of course, he makes inside
06:24 his apartment.
06:25 He's also got himself a ball inside, a snow globe in his hand.
06:28 And again, all these fallen people in front of him with presents galore.
06:32 Nice looking case.
06:33 Also, there's on the back there, at the very back corner, there's his flying through the
06:36 air van.
06:37 Now, again, this is what we had to work with.
06:39 This is the newer case.
06:40 It has the Christmas Evil there featured on the side, synapse films.
06:43 And then on the back, the back is going to be a little bit different, but this would
06:47 be the back on, I believe, this case, which would be the insert inside.
06:51 So again, it still has all the read up.
06:52 It tells you exactly how long the movie runs from 95 minutes from 1980.
06:57 And again, it has all the things you'd expect for a slip cover to be.
07:00 It doesn't just stop there though, which again, if you guys are interested solely just in
07:04 this alone, what was like $20, $20 for everything collectively, but 14 just for the slip cover.
07:10 But it's not just this inside.
07:12 Oh no.
07:13 When you pull this out, what you're getting now is a brand new insert cover.
07:17 That's going to go inside of your, your Blu-ray.
07:19 Now this isn't going to be quite the same Blu-ray because this one I've now realized
07:23 is only just a single insert.
07:24 So I'm going to swap this one out with the one that we got here from vinegar syndrome
07:28 and to use that instead.
07:29 But again, looking at the two now we've actually got Harry there featured on the front ax in
07:33 his hand that looks like it's already been used.
07:35 Santa, very unhappy.
07:37 And then on the back, the back is basically just the exact same thing that he ended up
07:41 using for the slip cover.
07:43 So you can see like it's exactly the same.
07:46 So what I will ultimately have to do now that I realized it is a dual cover, a dual CD,
07:51 because it has the DVD and it has the Blu-ray.
07:52 I'm going to end up just using this one, although I really don't like the snap, the snap front
07:56 there to it.
07:57 But I'm sure I can easily just change that down the road if I find myself another one.
08:01 Another one I definitely feel is this one here.
08:03 Our work again was pulled online.
08:05 I mean, it just looks much, much better.
08:07 I mean, a much polished, definitely a much better polished looking movie.
08:11 If you're going to have this on the shelf, whether you decide just to want to get the
08:13 insert or you want to go all out, like for, for what I did, for example, and get the,
08:18 the slip cover as well.
08:19 I think it just makes the movie look that much better until we get eventually a better
08:22 deluxe release.
08:23 Now, again, vinegar did a fine job for giving us the one that we did, but I mean, honestly,
08:27 I just think that the artwork featured on the front, I mean, it looks nothing at all
08:30 like Harry and it doesn't really at all evoke the idea of Christmas evil.
08:34 I think the newer one we get is a much nicer looking and I much like nicer looking art.
08:39 If you guys are interested in getting either one of these that I picked up for myself from
08:42 the Mockbuster, you can certainly reach out to him over on Instagram.
08:46 You can also let him know as well, if you're specifically interested in the Christmas evil.
08:49 I would certainly say though, if you have collected Christmas evil and it's maybe one
08:53 of your all time favorite Christmas classics, it certainly is in my household every December.
08:57 I definitely would encourage getting this one because not only again, like the quality
09:00 of this, it looks exactly like one you would buy in store, but the artwork is again, considerably,
09:06 considerably better.
09:07 The insert itself, again, if you guys are interested in getting this is, I think it's
09:10 like, it was like $4.
09:11 No, it was $8.
09:13 I think for that.
09:14 Yeah, $6.
09:15 I think it was six.
09:16 Ultimately it worked out to be like $20 to get the both.
09:20 But again, you can always reach out to him if you guys are interested in certain projects.
09:23 I mean, now that he's also doing as well inserts, you don't have to necessarily go with Christmas
09:27 evil, but if you had a project in mind, definitely reach out to the mock buster.
09:31 A big thank you once again to mock buster, by the way, who finished this project for
09:34 me, definitely based on how good his artwork has been and how well he designs these cases,
09:39 custom cases.
09:40 I will be reaching him out for reaching out to him for future projects.
09:43 What do you guys think of these?
09:44 Let me know down below in the comment section.
09:46 Would you also see a time to be an upgrade from maybe what we got from the original releases
09:50 from before?
09:51 Let me know what you guys think of these down below in the comment section.
09:53 Also a as well, if you guys did enjoy this video, why don't throw it a like, you guys
