00:00 Hello there, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Last night many
00:04 of us had the opportunity to see the northern lights, all thanks to a geomagnetic storm.
00:10 As we go through tonight there's another good opportunity, especially across more northern
00:14 parts of the UK. Solar activity will be a little bit weaker than it was last night,
00:18 so for everyone in the south it may well be that you need a decent camera to spot the
00:23 lights, but still a good opportunity to get out and look at the sky.
00:28 Back to the here and now, for most of us it's going to be a pleasant afternoon. A few showers
00:33 will develop across parts of Scotland and northern England, could even hear the odd
00:37 rumble of thunder. Just watching out for a little bit of low cloud, mist and sea fog
00:42 affecting some eastern coastlines. But for many of us, dry and in the sunshine, highs
00:47 reaching easily into the low 20s, potentially up to around 24 or 25 degrees down towards
00:53 the south east.
00:55 So this evening, any showers across Scotland generally fading away, so clear skies for
01:00 most, so again an excellent opportunity to get outside to potentially spot the northern
01:05 lights. Some eastern coasts however will see that low cloud move back in, so may well be
01:10 a little bit more limited here. But for all of us it's going to be a mild night, most
01:15 towns and cities staying firmly in double figures.
01:19 So Sunday morning, starts off quite murky across some eastern areas, but that will burn
01:23 its way back towards the North Sea as we go through the course of the morning. Elsewhere,
01:27 largely dry and sunny, but showers already breaking out across Northern Ireland and as
01:32 we go through the course of the afternoon, these develop more widely across more western
01:36 and northern parts of the country. Some torrential downpours in places, there are warnings in
01:41 force from the Met Office. Do stay up to date on our website for the latest information
01:46 on the warnings, but if you do have any travel plans tomorrow, do take note because there
01:50 could be some difficult driving conditions in places. But where we do see the sunshine
01:55 linger, especially across the south east, we could see highs reaching 26 or 27 degrees.
02:02 And then really a change is in store as we go into next week. We say goodbye to the area
02:07 of high pressure, low pressure really takes charge across the UK, bringing in some further
02:11 wet weather at times. Temperatures trending back down to where they should be for the
02:16 time of year, but in any sunshine between showers, it shouldn't feel too bad out there.
02:21 But you can find out more about the weather where you are over the next five days on our
02:26 website or our app. And don't forget to follow us on our social media channels. But from
02:31 me for now, take care and I'll see you again soon.
