Gentle Giant Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Premier Collection Darth Vader 1/7 Scale Statue
Transcript
00:00 Well it looks like diamonds had some dealings with the dark side.
00:03 Here's your look at the Diamond Select Gentle Giant Premier Collection Star Wars Darth Vader
00:09 1/7th Scale Statue.
00:25 Once the heroic Jedi Knight named Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader was seduced by the dark side of
00:30 the force.
00:31 Forever scarred by his defeat on Mustafar, Vader was transformed into a cybernetically
00:35 enhanced Sith Lord.
00:37 At the dawn of the Empire, Vader led the Emperor's eradication of the Jedi Order and the search
00:41 for survivors.
00:42 He remained the service of the Emperor, the evil Darth Sidious, for decades enforcing
00:47 his master's will and seeking to crush the Rebel Alliance and other detractors.
00:51 But there was still good in him.
00:53 Designed, modeled and prototyped using top of the line 3D technology, this 1/7th scale
00:58 statue represents the next in their new collection of ongoing Star Wars sagas.
01:03 Each statue is hand cast, hand painted and hand numbered with a limited certificate of
01:08 authenticity.
01:10 While Anakin is trying to find the good in him, we don't have to look that hard to find
01:13 the good in this statue.
01:14 Just before we get down to the details on the Premier Collection Darth Vader statue,
01:18 I'd like to thank the folks over at Diamond Select that did provide this sample we could
01:22 have a look at.
01:23 Fully assembled, you're looking at Vader standing about 11 3/4 of an inch in height,
01:27 or the statue is 28 1/2 cm tall.
01:31 Of course, to come in clear with the statue, you do get yourself a certificate of authenticity.
01:35 It also serves as a trading card.
01:37 On the front is more of the trading card that does depict of course the image of what the
01:39 statue we're about to have a look at.
01:41 Down below that, it does say it's Star Wars Darth Vader 1/7th scale statue.
01:45 And where the certificate comes to play is when you're looking at the back of this.
01:49 Out of the very limited run of 3,000 pieces worldwide, this one that was provided to me
01:53 was 526.
01:55 Between getting him out of the box and getting him on display, Lord Vader actually requires
01:59 a little bit of assembly on your part.
02:01 As you get the main subject here to the side, you get the display base and a hilted lightsaber.
02:06 First we'll look at the display base.
02:07 And all of these, except for really the blade of the lightsaber, are cast in resin, along
02:11 with that of always is the worry that any one of these could potentially break.
02:14 Like for example, how well they've sculpted the flames.
02:17 To look at this display base evokes the idea for me that the surface terrain here is of
02:21 Mustafar.
02:22 And of course, you just got the flames on the front of this.
02:24 The flames also do remind me a little bit of the first encounter he has with Obi-Wan
02:28 in that Disney series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, where he sort of drags him through the flames.
02:32 The flames start generally with a lighter, kind of clear, kind of translucent yellow.
02:37 As they though progressively get to the ends of the points, they go from yellow to orange
02:41 to a nice little red on the top.
02:43 Luckily though, getting this out, I haven't damaged any one of these.
02:45 But when carefully though, you want to really be removing these out of the tray that normally
02:49 goes for the display base, that also goes for Vader.
02:52 The bottom of the base, and actually just before the bottom of the base, we'll actually
02:54 look at the terrain we've got here.
02:56 The thing that's weird about this statue is the way that Vader attaches onto it.
03:00 If you are familiar with resin statues, for example, they tend to post them on both sides
03:05 of the figure's feet.
03:07 In this case, actually, Darth Vader only has posts on one side of his boots.
03:10 And actually those only plug on the one side.
03:12 It does cause, as you'll see in a second, a little bit of stability issues for Darth
03:16 Vader.
03:17 But the display base, for what they've colored it, is looking really nice.
03:19 A nice use of sort of a sand-ish, kind of sand-colored beige.
03:23 On the bottom of the base, of course, you've still got yourself gentle giant Star Wars
03:27 Darth Vader with the same matching symbol, same matching number, as the certificate of
03:31 authenticity.
03:32 Four rubberized feet are always provided on the bottoms of the bases, not only to prevent
03:35 scratching on surfaces, but the more important thing too is that number is only written in
03:39 in silver pen.
03:40 If you're moving this around, for example, on a surface, there's a potential always
03:44 there that you're going to wear the number away in the process.
03:47 So those feet not only serve really as a preventative measure to prevent scratching on surfaces,
03:52 but as a secondary prevent, it prevents also that number from wearing away.
03:55 Let's just put the display stand over here for a second.
03:58 I won't yet put Darth Vader's lightsaber in his hand before, of course, we get a closer
04:02 look at the figure.
04:04 Kind of like Darth Vader, by the way, he attaches onto the display base.
04:06 He has similar issues, it seems, when it comes to his lightsaber.
04:10 And actually, you know what, I'll do it right now.
04:11 Lightsaber, like I said, here is cast, unlike the resin, is more in a kind of translucent
04:16 red plastic.
04:17 You can see there's the hilt right there.
04:19 You only get half of it because the other half is sticking out the ends of his hands.
04:24 When you are attaching this, you get this much post to work with.
04:27 And yet though, I've noticed getting this into his hand, when you're getting it what
04:30 you think to be in the right way, it seems to wobble a little bit.
04:34 It doesn't seem to get any bit better though, as you're rotating this around.
04:37 I tried this configuration, this seems a little bit loose as well.
04:40 I guess if I'm looking at the lightsaber, I really would want to have it facing, I guess,
04:44 this way, right?
04:45 But unfortunately though, it does cause a little bit of looseness in his hands.
04:48 You just want to really be careful.
04:50 And if anything, I would say, if you're putting this guy together for the first time, getting
04:53 him on the shelf, probably put the lightsaber in as the last thing you do.
04:58 Before we actually take Darth Vader and attach him onto the display base, I want to show
05:00 you guys what the statue looks like for Darth Vader.
05:03 Vader is an easy subject to get an excellent looking statue.
05:07 I got to say, Darth Vader looks awesome here.
05:09 He obviously has the one arm extended forward, like he's using his force, perhaps to strangle
05:13 somebody in front of him.
05:14 And then of course, the other arm is swept back to hold the lightsaber in his other hand.
05:19 It's decently painted.
05:20 Again, these are all hand painted pieces, by the way.
05:23 So we would start with basically a stock coloring of the resin, and then they've very meticulously
05:27 gone in there and painted everything black on Darth Vader.
05:30 Vader though has a lot of black, but you'll notice though, when you're looking at it,
05:34 like the helm is a shinier black as well.
05:36 It could be said for the guard or the shoulder piece that he has on his armor.
05:40 Then for his actual Sith cloak, that's more of a matte coloring of black.
05:44 So they would have had to go in there and use different really colors of paint to get
05:48 that same real look that he has in the movies themselves.
05:51 I like the way they've sculpted this section of his cloak, that it does have sort of like
05:55 a little bit of wrinkles and stuff that would drape naturally when you, obviously, if you're
05:58 a Sith Lord or not.
05:59 If you're walking around with a cloak, things like this would be a natural draping of wrinkles.
06:04 Things that naturally would form if this is rusting against your leg have been pretty
06:08 well captured here with the actual resin version of Darth Vader.
06:11 There's a little bit of silver there on the ends of his breathing mask, not to mention
06:14 as well, he's got some additional red and the green on the knobs and the buttons there
06:17 on the front of his breathing apparatus.
06:19 He's also got, of course, the same things like in the movie that he would have on his
06:22 belt there too.
06:23 Everything captured really well on this.
06:25 The thing you would also want to be careful of, I just finished talking about things you
06:28 want to be careful of, is taking this guy first out of his tray.
06:31 There are the two posts that I've already talked about.
06:33 We're going to come back to those.
06:34 But if you look at them, in between the section of where his Sith robe ends and where the
06:38 beginning of his cape is, there's about that much space.
06:41 If you're taking this guy out, for example, you really don't want to put pressure against
06:44 here because that would mostly buckle these two together and result in a cracking of the
06:48 back of the cape.
06:49 Speaking, though, of the back of the cape, I want to show you guys what that looks like.
06:52 Like the robe he has on the front, again, a lot of cool wrinkles and fold that he has
06:56 there.
06:57 Really well done here.
06:58 I apologize.
06:59 I just knocked it out of the park.
07:00 Again, for the fact that this figure, this character, really is all clad in black, the
07:03 fact that they have all, again, like the matching colors, we've got the shinier section there
07:07 for his dome, the section shinier, of course, in the shoulders, and then kept everything
07:10 else in that matte black.
07:12 I think they painted this guy extremely well.
07:15 Here's my only other problem when it comes to the statue.
07:16 It goes back to a point that I mentioned earlier about these posts.
07:19 If you're taking Darth Vader, for example, and you're carefully picking up the display
07:23 base and you're lining everything up, you've got a larger post on the back, a slightly
07:28 smaller thinner post on the front.
07:30 And that's the only section that actually attaches onto the display base.
07:33 You want to make sure, of course, everything is lined up accordingly, get Darth Vader on
07:36 top of it.
07:37 Then it would probably be in your best, best idea to then take yourself the lightsaber.
07:41 Let's move this guy a little bit further forward.
07:43 Take yourself the lightsaber, then slide it in place.
07:44 So you're not having to worry as much with that.
07:46 The thing, unfortunately, about that though, because he doesn't have posts on both sides
07:50 of his feet, I noticed that Vader rocks a little bit.
07:54 You can probably even see it for yourself.
07:55 Unfortunately, though, by not putting the provided, I feel the provided post on the
08:00 ends of both of his heels, it does then cause Darth Vader to be a little bit more rocking.
08:06 This isn't going to be obviously a problem if you're just going to be putting the statue
08:09 on your shelf and leaving it alone.
08:11 But if you happen to be in an area that, you know, every once in a while things get jostled
08:15 around, I don't want to think like earthquakes for that matter, but like any, any time, if
08:18 anything like on a shelf gets banged around, Darth Vader isn't the most stable footing
08:22 of characters.
08:23 So you just want to be a little bit careful of that.
08:26 Short of maybe just not having a proper connection on both ends of his heels.
08:29 And again, I'm not really sure why they wouldn't have just added posts on both heels instead
08:32 of just the one.
08:33 Darth Vader looks fantastic.
08:35 The only other thing I would say also about the statue too, is while I think it captured
08:39 a perfect looking version of Darth Vader, some may though be turned off by the display
08:44 base.
08:45 I mean, if you like the idea of, I'm guessing this to be Mustafar, who in the bottom of
08:48 the base here with the flames, that works for me.
08:51 But if you're somebody that likes the look of Darth Vader, but isn't as crazy about the
08:54 display base, maybe would have preferred the interior of a Star Destroyer, for example,
08:59 the grays and stuff that would have welcomed along with a Star Destroyer might maybe look
09:03 a little bit nicer in the eyes of some collectors.
09:05 So even though they like the look of Darth Vader, they may not necessarily like the look
09:09 of the sandy terrain with the flames on the front of it.
09:11 And that because of that might be a bit of a detractor and a reason not to get the statue.
09:14 If you like the look of this though, and you love the look of this, it's definitely a Vader
09:18 that's worth picking up and adding it to your collection.
09:21 What's actually funny about the Star Wars Premier Collection Darth Vader 1/7th scale
09:24 statue is that the box that the statue comes inside of calls it only the Premier Collection
09:29 Star Wars Darth Vader statue.
09:31 It's not though until you look online, if you're looking to order this one for yourself,
09:35 have probably already noticed that the listings online called us the Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi
09:40 Premier Collection Darth Vader 1/7th scale statue.
09:43 What's then my reference earlier to this looking like the scene where he first encounters Obi-Wan
09:47 Kenobi and he's dragging him through the flames has a lot more to do with the statue than
09:50 I thought of originally.
09:52 For one one though, by the way, this Premier Collection Darth Vader statue sells online
09:56 for $179.99.
09:58 That's US dollars.
09:59 That would also be about the same too short of maybe just the shipping cost.
10:02 If you were to find this also in local stores, though it being $179 online, that's $179
10:08 US dollars.
10:09 So here in Canada, you'd be paying a little bit more for that.
10:11 What do you guys though think of Darth Vader?
10:13 Let me know down below in the comment section.
10:14 Is this a statue you guys could see yourselves picking up?
10:17 And what did you honestly think of the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series?
10:21 I wasn't a big fan of it myself.
10:22 It had plot holes galore.
10:23 But what do you guys think of this series?
10:25 Let me know.
10:26 Big thank you once again to the folks over at Diamond Select that did provide this sample
10:29 of this Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Premier Collection Darth Vader 1/7th scale statue that we had
10:34 the chance to have a look at in this review.
10:36 If you guys did enjoy this video, why not throw it a like.
10:38 If you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing and you'd like to stick around
10:41 for more, we will be by the way looking at some more Star Wars statues.
10:45 But in the meantime, if you want to check out other things, other offerings I've looked
10:49 at from Diamond Select and as well Gentle Giant, popping up at the very end of this
10:53 video not only will be a playlist for Diamond Select, we'll also be a playlist for statues.
10:58 Feel free to give those a gander if you have a little bit of time on your Sith Lord hands.
11:02 Just don't use the Force on me, whatever you do.
11:04 As always guys, thanks for watching.
11:06 See you guys next time.
