00:01:07Matt, here we are, sir.
00:01:09Um, and we're ready for some draft rates.
00:01:12We did, we did a billion shows over the week, uh, over the weekend.
00:01:16I feel like we were just on here nonstop.
00:01:18It was great.
00:01:18We had a great time.
00:01:19Thursday night, ton of people came through Thursday night,
00:01:22which was a ton of fun.
00:01:23And I think overall the Patriots kind of crushed it.
00:01:28Yeah.
00:01:28I'm pretty happy with that.
00:01:29I mean, I think there are some, some picks on, you know, day three or day two.
00:01:36You know, there's something I'm a little uncertain about, but this
00:01:39class is going to be judged by the quarterback and the way that they
00:01:43support him and I like the quarterback and I've liked a lot of the
00:01:47pieces they use to support him.
00:01:49So, um, you know, we can get into the details, but broad strokes
00:01:53are to be disappointed with this.
00:01:54Yeah.
00:01:54Yeah, exactly.
00:01:56Ultimately, I think it comes down to, uh, the pick at three.
00:01:58So let's get into the draft grades.
00:02:00I did write a draft gear article, uh, on Pat's pulpit.
00:02:02And it was funny.
00:02:03You were saying that, you know, you kind of did your own independent, uh,
00:02:07independent one, um, and they came up pretty similar.
00:02:10And so, you know, I think if we dive right into it, the first round
00:02:14is, is pick three at Drake may.
00:02:15And, and look, there were some.
00:02:18Reports of course, that teams have tried to move, to move up and, you know,
00:02:22things that try to get done and so on and so forth.
00:02:24And I think that the Patriots made the correct decision that they
00:02:28didn't move out of three, that they looked at it and said, you know,
00:02:33we're not going to have an opportunity to draft a guy like this again.
00:02:36And look, Drake may is a guy that I think you could make the argument
00:02:41that, you know, he has a long way to go and he is raw and he isn't.
00:02:46But at the same time, he makes the throws that NFL quarterbacks need to make.
00:02:54And not just, he plays the game in a way that the elite quarterbacks
00:03:00in the NFL play the game.
00:03:02Um, and he has the arm strength to make every single throw and to
00:03:06make every single throw look easy.
00:03:08And the Patriots haven't had a guy like that in a long time.
00:03:12And honestly, a guy like Drake may they've never had before.
00:03:18Right.
00:03:18Maybe, you know, they originally hit, they originally drafted
00:03:20Jim Plunkett and Rich Gannon.
00:03:22Um, but like even Tom Brady didn't have the movement, the
00:03:27rushing ability that Drake may had.
00:03:29Now he's the greatest quarterback of all time because he could do literally
00:03:33everything else on the football field.
00:03:35Okay.
00:03:35So Drake may isn't a thousand yards rushing for us.
00:03:39See, see, so Drake may is not going to come, you know, he's going
00:03:43to be miles away from Tom Brady.
00:03:45But with the, the physical traits that he has, the Patriots haven't had a guy
00:03:51like that in a long time.
00:03:52And when you see how far along he is right now, I think it was a situation
00:03:58that you had to make that pick.
00:04:01I gave it an A plus.
00:04:02I'm not sure what you gave it, but I gave it an A plus because you were
00:04:05confident in it, you took your swing and you said, this is the
00:04:08guy and let's go from here.
00:04:10Yeah.
00:04:11Not hard to give this anything, but an A plus to me, he was quarterback
00:04:14two in this class in the same tier as Caleb Williams, lower than
00:04:18him, but in the same tier.
00:04:20And they got him at QB three with the number three pick in the draft exceptional.
00:04:26I want to send a fruit basket to the Washington commander's front office
00:04:30for doing this two years in a row.
00:04:33Thank you.
00:04:33Yup.
00:04:34Uh, thank you for that one.
00:04:35Um, and yeah, you know, making do a lot of stuff on the field and
00:04:40seems like a great leader off of it.
00:04:41You know, you got the opening press conference, him bringing his brothers
00:04:45and his girlfriend he's been with since what they say, seventh grade.
00:04:48So it seems like a family man.
00:04:51Uh, and you know, you look at the group he has around him and how
00:04:55close they are to him, I think that tells you a lot about what he is as.
00:04:58A leader.
00:04:59And you need that from this position.
00:05:01You know, this is quarterback one of the new England Patriots.
00:05:04This isn't, this isn't any other quarterback job in this league.
00:05:08It comes with a lot of expectations.
00:05:09It comes with a lot of media scrutiny comes with huge, huge shoes to fill,
00:05:14you know, until this, until this franchise has any kind of semblance
00:05:18of a franchise quarterback, it's always going to be, you know, well, we're
00:05:22still waiting on the next Tom Brady.
00:05:23Like that's, that's going to be who you're compared to this whole time.
00:05:27Right.
00:05:27It seems like somebody who can handle that.
00:05:29And I obviously love all the stuff on the field.
00:05:31Um, he has areas of his game where he needs to work, but he can do everything.
00:05:37Uh, Ben select in the ringer, his, uh, his article that he wrote after the
00:05:41draft actually brought a whole piece in there too, about he thinks Drake may,
00:05:46may actually end up having the best season of any of the rookies this year.
00:05:50And we did that because he sees the tools and he sees the, um, the way that, you
00:05:56know, there's an investment around him.
00:05:58And in some ways what he likened it to was 2021 Trevor Lawrence, where.
00:06:04You could tell that the situation around him needed a lot of work, but you could
00:06:08also tell that this guy had things that made him, uh, at least capable
00:06:12of being a special quarterback.
00:06:14And, um, you know, if that's the kind of season you get out of Drake may, I think
00:06:18you're going to be very, very happy.
00:06:20So, um, yeah, again, thank you to Washington for this and we'll, uh, I
00:06:25can't wait to see may actually get out there on the field a plus plus, plus, plus.
00:06:28Well, and that's the way I feel about it.
00:06:30Right.
00:06:30And then look, it's it, and you know, and look, Brandon's out here, right.
00:06:36And it says, you know, that after hearing from some of the reports, seems like may
00:06:39was third, if not, you know, QB for, for, for some other teams, maybe that's true.
00:06:44Maybe that's true.
00:06:46I don't see it.
00:06:46I don't understand how any sane person could have JJ McCarthy over Drake.
00:06:53May I just, I don't, I just don't see it.
00:06:57I don't see how somebody could have, um, could have Michael panics over Drake.
00:07:04May it just doesn't make any sense to me.
00:07:05And even Jayden Daniels, I get, I get the rushing ability, right.
00:07:12But it's not, you know, I'm sorry, but he's, he just, it's not, it's, he's
00:07:20not better than Drake, man.
00:07:21Sorry.
00:07:22Like, it's just not, and maybe, maybe we'll be proven wrong.
00:07:25And that's, and that's one of those things that, you know, it's, I understand
00:07:29it's all, and we're going to talk to, we'll talk to, um, Thor and Nystrom.
00:07:33I come back, I think for the fourth year in a row, uh, this year is going
00:07:38to come and talk to us on Thursday.
00:07:40Um, but you know, and that's, and Carlos is a hundred percent, right?
00:07:45He was the one, he was the first or second pick before his final
00:07:48season in England, going into this past year.
00:07:52And so, and again, you know, then the question becomes who is he?
00:07:56Is he the guy we saw last year or is he the guy that we saw in
00:08:002022 and who is he closer to?
00:08:02And I think we saw enough good things last year that I feel like I feel okay.
00:08:07About it.
00:08:08He's got some things to fix.
00:08:09He's got some things to work out, but I do think that, you know, we
00:08:13can, we can harness some of that.
00:08:17Um, also I'm going to give a shout out to Ramsey for, uh, for the meme in the
00:08:21chat, uh, in the chat meme, this is fantastic.
00:08:25So well done.
00:08:26Well done, Ramsey.
00:08:27Appreciate you.
00:08:28Um, I both, I both fit in new England too, for May, uh, with Alex Van Pelton,
00:08:35the quarterback guys, they got here.
00:08:37His biggest issue is consistency with footwork.
00:08:40They got guys whose main thing is footwork.
00:08:42Uh, is it going to fix it?
00:08:45No idea, but that's about as good a chance as I think they're going to have.
00:08:48And it sounds like, you know, nobody in the building is
00:08:51committing one way or the other.
00:08:52And if he's going to start this year, which I think is fair, I think it was
00:08:55who said earlier that they're going to get them in the building and they're
00:08:57going to see how he learns and how he responds to stuff, which is what I was
00:09:01saying on draft night when they picked them, uh, see what you got in, in May.
00:09:05Take it day by day.
00:09:07There's no reason to make decisions right now on, you know, exactly how
00:09:12many games he's going to play this year.
00:09:14You don't need to put a pitch count on him.
00:09:16This isn't like major league baseball, where you got to worry about like
00:09:18service time and making sure he plays under a certain amount.
00:09:21No, he's on a four year contract, one year, possibly added onto that.
00:09:25If, if he's not ready, you need to sit him for a year.
00:09:28That's completely fine.
00:09:29If he's ready to go now, there's no reason not to play him as long as he's,
00:09:34you know, got enough of a good situation around him that he's not going to get
00:09:38killed when he goes out there.
00:09:39Right.
00:09:40Right.
00:09:40True.
00:09:40And I will also say if he's, if the situation's that bad, Jacoby
00:09:44preset may get hurt and we may have to see Drake may out there regardless.
00:09:48You know, that's how Justin Herbert got out there because a chargers team
00:09:52doctor stabbed their quarterback by accident 90 minutes before kickoff.
00:09:56It's a Herbert.
00:09:57Here's your first start.
00:09:58Have fun.
00:09:58Right, right.
00:10:00And the other, the other part of it for me is that, you know, I
00:10:04understand he was taken third overall.
00:10:06I do.
00:10:07I get that.
00:10:08I, I a hundred percent understand, but again, for me, I would
00:10:14just go back to the chiefs.
00:10:15I'll just go back to the chiefs.
00:10:17Just, let's just go back to the chiefs, 2017.
00:10:21They trade a first round pick.
00:10:22They move all the way up from 20 something to 10 to take Patrick Mahomes.
00:10:28And it sucks for Sean Payton too.
00:10:30Cause he had the name written down.
00:10:32He had the Patrick Holmes name written down.
00:10:33He was going to, he was putting it in, he was putting it in.
00:10:36And you know, the chiefs traded in front of what he had to do.
00:10:39Um, but you know, they trade up, they give a future first round pick.
00:10:46They have a pro bowl quarterback on their roster.
00:10:50So Mahomes sits for the year.
00:10:53Wait a second.
00:10:53You just traded a future first round pick and took a guy in the top 10 that you
00:10:59didn't plan on playing for a whole year.
00:11:02That guy must've sucked.
00:11:04He must've.
00:11:05Oh, wait a minute.
00:11:05No, he didn't suck.
00:11:06Holy crap.
00:11:06No, he took them to the eighth championship game the first year he started.
00:11:09And then you won MVP and then won the Superbowl and so on and so on.
00:11:14It's all right.
00:11:15So my, my point is this.
00:11:17Drake may doesn't suck if right.
00:11:22If he doesn't play this year, it's because he needs some refinement before they can
00:11:28put them out there in a regular game, right?
00:11:31He needs to be able to see the field a little bit better.
00:11:33He needs to be able to not make some of the throws.
00:11:35Now, Patrick Mahomes still makes some of those ridiculously crazy throws because
00:11:39he sees the field really well and he understands what's going on.
00:11:43I think they let Drake may do some of those crazy things, but
00:11:47you got to reign it in just a little bit.
00:11:49And that's what this year does.
00:11:51Number one, it allows the peace around them to get better.
00:11:55And number two, it allows him to understand what's going on.
00:11:58And I think that there's nothing wrong with that, you know?
00:12:01And I think I get it.
00:12:02I understand that people want to see him on the field got drafted
00:12:05number three over, I get that.
00:12:07But just allow him to, to have the year to grow.
00:12:12And look, if he's ready before that, then he's ready before that.
00:12:15But, you know, and it's not like it's a different situation in the chiefs
00:12:19room, because the chiefs, of course, we're in a different situation because
00:12:22they were making the playoffs and they still had a good team and so on and so
00:12:25forth, it was a little bit, Alex Smith was like a, you know, 14th, 12th best
00:12:31quarterback in the league when he was there, he did a good job.
00:12:33Um, so yeah, I think it's, I think we should go in with a, a wide variety
00:12:38of expectations for the way that this can go, or really go in with no
00:12:41expectations for what this is going to be year one, you know, it can be,
00:12:44there's really nothing off the table in terms of what may does or does
00:12:47not do in terms of being on the field and his actual abilities.
00:12:50And you're, you're kind of drafting him with an eye on year two being
00:12:54when he puts it all together, especially year three, your threes, usually
00:12:58when these guys really start to figure it out, um, but I, you know, year
00:13:03one is always going to be a learning year, whether that's on the
00:13:06field or in the practice room.
00:13:08Right.
00:13:09Right.
00:13:10So, all right, so let's move on to the second round, second
00:13:12round, the Patriots have picked 34.
00:13:13They move back three spots and to do that, they move up 27 spots.
00:13:18And that's going to be important later.
00:13:20Uh, but they go from one 37 in the fifth round to one 10 in the fourth round with
00:13:25a trade with the, with the Los Angeles chargers charges, take loud and conky.
00:13:30Uh, wide receiver out of Georgia, the Patriots at 37, take Jaylen
00:13:33Polk, a wide receiver out of Washington.
00:13:35Now I gave this an, a probably should have given it to people.
00:13:38I remember the habits of B-plus and I changed it to an a, um, I like it.
00:13:44I do.
00:13:44I like Jaylen Polk.
00:13:45I like the idea of Jaylen Polk.
00:13:47I feel like he is, he's a very good route runner.
00:13:50He is one of my favorite lines, or I guess phrases about him and the other
00:13:57guy that drafted in the fourth round.
00:13:59We'll get to, um, is that they're accuracy racers.
00:14:04Like I love that line because you're helping your young quarterback out.
00:14:09This is what you're doing.
00:14:10Your young quarterback who has some issues with accuracy in the past, get him
00:14:15some guys that can help his accuracy.
00:14:18Right.
00:14:19And Jaylen Polk was that kind of guy.
00:14:21He doesn't have four, three speed, right?
00:14:23But he's still a vertical threat.
00:14:26He does really good work over the middle of the field, kind of that
00:14:29deep intermediate to deep middle Scott, um, Scott, Jesus, um, uh, Phil Perry
00:14:35had a great article today, um, on, you know, some of the statistics and how
00:14:41good Drake may, is it throwing over that deep middle of the field and how Jaylen
00:14:46Polk really thrives in that deep middle of the field.
00:14:49And so that's one of those things that I think you're looking at those things
00:14:55saying, okay, our quarterback's good at this, let's get a wide receiver.
00:14:58That's also good at this.
00:14:59That can help them out with that.
00:15:00And so I think it was very intentional by them.
00:15:03And I, I do like the idea of doing it now as spec does says, I don't know if
00:15:08he is the answer to their X problem.
00:15:11Um, but I think he can do a bunch of different things.
00:15:15He may not stick at the X, but I think he can play the X at times, even
00:15:19if he doesn't play it every, every day.
00:15:21Yeah.
00:15:22I love this pick.
00:15:22I am giving it a B plus just because I think it's a little bit, tiny bit of a
00:15:26reach, but it's one I'm okay with.
00:15:28I agree with everything you said about it being a perfect fit for what Drake may
00:15:31likes.
00:15:31Um, I think he can be an X.
00:15:33He has to develop his route running more.
00:15:36He has to flesh out his game, but I think he can do that.
00:15:39I think he has the tools to do that.
00:15:41Polk has great hands.
00:15:42He can run a variety of routes.
00:15:43You can line them up at a bunch of spots.
00:15:45Um, I'm like, I, I like, in some ways, I like what Polk can bring to this
00:15:51offense more than I would have loved, you know, Calvin Ridley, obviously Ridley
00:15:54is the better player right now.
00:15:56And there's a ton of uncertainty because Polk has never played it down in the NFL.
00:16:00Ridley, I didn't really like outside the numbers.
00:16:02I didn't like him as an X.
00:16:04Polk can do that, even if he isn't your primary guy there.
00:16:07And I think he helps you out a ton.
00:16:09Um, and even just going, I was going back through some Browns tape to see
00:16:13how the Browns use Amari Cooper.
00:16:16And I think a ton of the stuff that they did with him, you can just copy and paste
00:16:21Jalen Polk and run those same routes.
00:16:22I don't know if he's going to do it as well as, you know, Amari Cooper does
00:16:25at this point in his career, but that's the package you're going to start with.
00:16:28You know, they use him outside the numbers.
00:16:29They use him on speed out.
00:16:31They use them on the vertical routes.
00:16:32They use him in the slot.
00:16:33They use him on, you know, deep overs and things like that.
00:16:36And a variety of different ways to get the ball to him in space.
00:16:38Uh, I think we'll see a lot of similar things for Jalen Polk as he
00:16:42gets on board here in New England.
00:16:44Yeah.
00:16:45And what's interesting is that there, they 100% tried to trade up.
00:16:51We're not able to, I think they wanted Xavier Leguette, uh, didn't get him.
00:16:56I think that they released reports that they were interested in Keon Coleman so
00:17:03that the bills would draft Keon Coleman at 33 and they may have, but from the
00:17:10sound of it with, you know, what Elliot Wolf said afterwards was, you know,
00:17:19Polk was our guy, that's the guy that we wanted.
00:17:22Um, you know, and again, whom he may be just blowing smoke.
00:17:25I don't know.
00:17:26Um, but you know, if that were the case, I think that's a, that's an
00:17:30interesting, you know, scenario for them.
00:17:33The bills intentionally blocked the Patriots from moving up to pick 32 and
00:17:38instead traded back to 33 instead of 32.
00:17:41Um, instead of 34, I'm sorry.
00:17:43And blocked the Patriots from moving up to 32.
00:17:45So then if the Patriots kind of turned around and then made them take a guy
00:17:48that the Patriots really didn't want, um, that would've been great.
00:17:52I don't know, but that's, but that would've been, that would've been great.
00:17:55Also the numbers, just so, just to kind of belabor this point a little bit, I
00:18:00mentioned the numbers that, um, that Phil Perry mentioned and Drake may over the
00:18:05last two years, since 2022 has 66 big time throws.
00:18:14Okay.
00:18:14So big time throws, I believe are, you know, 20 yards downfield.
00:18:17Um, I believe it's 20, 20 or more yards, more yards downfield, 66 big time throws.
00:18:24Caleb Williams had 44 Jaden Dames at 38 out of those 66 big time throws, only
00:18:29six of them were turnover worthy plays.
00:18:33So, um, so I think that's, that's pretty solid.
00:18:36So anyway, so, um, all right, let's move on.
00:18:40We can move on here.
00:18:41I like the Jalen Polk thing again, a B plus somewhere around there.
00:18:45I like that.
00:18:46Um, but you know, we'll see now the not so good, the third round, the
00:18:52Caden Wallace pick, I didn't get, I gave it a C minus.
00:18:56I can see people giving it less than that.
00:18:58I think they believe he can play left tackle.
00:19:03If he actually can play left tackle, then this, then this
00:19:07grade goes higher, right?
00:19:09I still think it was a bit of a reach.
00:19:11It maybe wasn't as big of a reach as we may have first thought, because I'm
00:19:15looking at it saying Caden Wallace, you serious, but, um, even still, it's
00:19:21not really ideally the guy you wanted in that spot.
00:19:25Yeah.
00:19:25I'm with you.
00:19:25I had a C minus here for Caden Wallace.
00:19:28Uh, I think he'll be a useful player.
00:19:30I think there's a lot to like about him.
00:19:32I remain skeptical that he's going to actually be a good left tackle in the NFL.
00:19:36He might be serviceable.
00:19:37He might be a spot starter there.
00:19:39I don't know if he's a guy you want starting there as a franchise left tackle.
00:19:43I think we're probably going to see him in at guard.
00:19:46Um, I look at, you know, this guy Leighton Robinson, who they took later
00:19:50and Nick Leverett, who they, they signed from Tampa, the three of them
00:19:55may be competing in Jake Andrews is in this mix too, for those backup guard
00:20:00spots or with, you know, city.
00:20:02So in close range for the starting guard spots, and they may throw them
00:20:05all out there and say, we're going to see what you all can do.
00:20:07And I wouldn't be surprised if Caden Wallace ends up being a super
00:20:11sub, a backup at four spots on the offensive line this year.
00:20:14So, like I said, I think he's useful.
00:20:16I think this is earlier than I would have liked, although I
00:20:19understand why they did it.
00:20:21And I, again, I'm going to remain skeptical of his ability to
00:20:24play left tackle until we see it.
00:20:26That's great.
00:20:26Like it'll go higher.
00:20:27If he ends up being a good left tackle, this goes way higher.
00:20:30And I'm going to give them a ton of credit for spotting something that
00:20:33other teams didn't see with him.
00:20:36Um, but until we actually see that play out, this is going to be a C minus for me.
00:20:40And that's, and that's really what, that's really the big thing.
00:20:43Now, I think he took a big step forward last year.
00:20:46So they thought, okay, there's a little bit of, there's, um, a chance that he
00:20:50can, he's still growing and still learning.
00:20:53But again, I just, you know, and TD even said it in the chat, like he
00:20:57played four years at right tackle.
00:20:58And now all of a sudden he's a left tackle.
00:21:00Like I just, I just didn't love that.
00:21:02And so
00:21:02and reportedly he worked out for them at left tackle.
00:21:04He did work at the shrine bolt left tackle.
00:21:06It sounds like the only reason he didn't at Penn State is because they just
00:21:09had other guys over there, like old fashioned new, like that's
00:21:12pretty good reason it's kind of similar to the Blake Fisher thing.
00:21:16This guy's just not as young.
00:21:17So I think there's less, less runway for growth.
00:21:20And at the same time, I think there's some questions with his agility that
00:21:25make you question how he can do against speed rushers on an Island.
00:21:29Yeah, exactly.
00:21:30All right.
00:21:30That's the first two days.
00:21:31We're going to take a quick ad break.
00:21:33Um, and then we'll come back with day three.
00:21:36Uh, and then continue with, uh, some, some breaking Patriots news that came
00:21:41out today, which we'll talk about.
00:21:43And then we'll also kind of go around the league just quickly and talk about
00:21:46some of the fits we'd liked and didn't like right back prize pick says something
00:21:51for every sports fan from basketball, baseball, and hockey to league of
00:21:55legends and everything in between.
00:21:56You can pick LeBron Aaron judge, Conor McDavid and Jude Bellingham all in the
00:22:01same entry price picks even offers injury insurance so that your entries
00:22:05stay in play, even if one of your players gets injured for basketball games.
00:22:09If you have a player who exits the game in the first half and does not return
00:22:12in the second price picks, we'll have your back and not count that as a loss.
00:22:17Now this week, I'm actually going with Aaron judge, Raphael Devers and Bobby
00:22:22Whit jr.
00:22:22To have over 1.5 total bases.
00:22:25And I'm going with Kevin Durant for more than 28 points and the coyotes
00:22:30with more than 10 rebounds down with the app today and use the code CLNS for
00:22:35a first deposit match up to $100.
00:22:39Again, if you download the app today and put in the code CLNS, they will
00:22:43match your first deposit up to $100 price picks, pick more, pick less.
00:22:50It's that easy.
00:22:57Record a new ad read there.
00:22:58Flipping Kevin Durant, man swept.
00:23:01Uh, anyways.
00:23:03All right.
00:23:03So day three, let's get into day three.
00:23:05We'll go through Leighton Robbins is the first one to pick one Oh three.
00:23:08We already talked about this a little bit.
00:23:10I didn't hate it.
00:23:11I liked other guards.
00:23:12Everyone knows I'm in love with Tanner Bordellini.
00:23:15He's the guy really wanted.
00:23:16If you were drafting a guard, he goes to Indy later on.
00:23:19Mason McCormick was the second guy I fell in love with the South Dakota state.
00:23:23He goes later as well.
00:23:25So, you know, I I'm upset that they didn't take either of those guys,
00:23:28but he's got long arms.
00:23:31He's got like 35 inch arms.
00:23:33He's a big dude.
00:23:34He has a ton of experience playing at Texas A&M.
00:23:36And so I think he can come in if they're not a hundred percent sure about their
00:23:44guard spots, he can come in and compete at that guard, um, at that guard position.
00:23:51And so I gave it a C plus, I don't love it, but I also get it.
00:23:56I give it to C plus as well.
00:23:57I think this is your Antonio Moffitt replacement.
00:24:00Um, very similar stylistically.
00:24:03This is one area where I'm curious because Caden Wallace is a guy who I think is a
00:24:07really good zone fit zone running fit.
00:24:10That's what they did a lot of at Penn state.
00:24:11I think he can do zone or gap power.
00:24:14Um, but Leighton Robinson is a guy who might be less of a zone guy and more just,
00:24:20I'm going to move you out of the way type of dude.
00:24:23Uh, he's, he's built.
00:24:24He's a big dude.
00:24:26Um, very powerful.
00:24:28So I'm curious where he fits in, in this offensive line.
00:24:33And I think he's a right guard only.
00:24:35I wonder if he, I don't know if he has left guard versatility.
00:24:37You know, I was looking at some of the players and where they fit on the depth
00:24:40chart and this guy's mostly a right guard.
00:24:41Nick Lever, who designed is mostly a left guard.
00:24:44Jake Andrews is mostly a center.
00:24:46So it seems like they almost have a one for one backup.
00:24:48I use one of those spots.
00:24:50Um, I wouldn't be surprised to see Leighton Robinson take city.
00:24:53So is the job.
00:24:55I also wouldn't be shocked if we see city.
00:24:57So in Leighton Robinson, both get reps at right guard this year.
00:25:00After the year, we're saying, Hey, I think we need to use another pick there.
00:25:04Cause we don't love either of these guys.
00:25:06I don't think they're bad players.
00:25:07I think they're useful players.
00:25:08I think they can be part of a good offensive line.
00:25:10They also might be players.
00:25:11You still want to upgrade later on.
00:25:14Uh, but I don't think this is a bad pick a little bit of a reach.
00:25:16Uh, so C plus here is, you know, slightly above average, not in love with it, but
00:25:22not upset with it by any means.
00:25:24Just curious.
00:25:25Right.
00:25:25And that's, you know, that's kind of where I'm at.
00:25:28I just think it'll be fine.
00:25:30And again, if they're not happy with their, if this kid winds up starting a few
00:25:35games at guard, or, you know, Carlos mentioned that he thinks Cole strange
00:25:39might be on the way out.
00:25:40Um, you know, if, if something like that happens and this guy ends up
00:25:45sliding in and playing well now, of course, again, the drain, obviously
00:25:48depending on how well he plays, the grade can go up based on that.
00:25:51So, so we'll see.
00:25:54Um, all right.
00:25:54Steal the draft right here.
00:25:55Pick four, uh, pick one 10.
00:25:57This is the trade the Patriots got for moving back.
00:26:00Of course they moved up.
00:26:02That's not like they got it for free, but they moved up and got pick one 10, uh,
00:26:06for moving back to base to pick 37 and they draft Jay Vaughn Baker from UCF.
00:26:12This kid is an electric factory, just the absolute best.
00:26:16Um, I love this guy.
00:26:18I love him already.
00:26:19And he hasn't even played a snap for the Patriots, but just his, his
00:26:23swagger and his, his bravado, the way he comes in, the way he approaches things.
00:26:28He's a professional on the field too.
00:26:30Like he works his ass off and he really loves what he does.
00:26:33He loves like the craft behind it too.
00:26:36What'd you think is really great.
00:26:37And, um, you know, when old man, mom says he reminds him OBJ and look,
00:26:42I mean, maybe that that's a little, that's a little generous, but maybe,
00:26:46I mean, again, it's, he is explosive.
00:26:49You talk about a guy that averaged 22 yards, a catch last year had five
00:26:53receptions of over 50 yards, uh, which is insane, insane.
00:26:58And so you get a guy like that, a pick one 10, because why you ran a four, five,
00:27:03four, like, what are we talking about?
00:27:04You know?
00:27:05And so, um, the speed at which he plays on the field is more important.
00:27:09He's an accomplished road runner, a really good route runner who sets defenders up.
00:27:14I absolutely love this pick.
00:27:16And, you know, I think he, again, the same thing with Jalen Polk, he compliments
00:27:22what Drake may does really well because he's another accuracy eraser.
00:27:27He's another guy that will go up and get passes when you, if they're not perfect.
00:27:33And so I love the pick.
00:27:35I think it's a great pick.
00:27:36And again, it's a one 10, like this kid, we could have justified at 68
00:27:43and he's going at one 10 instead.
00:27:44Matter of fact, I had him 68 in one of my mock drafts.
00:27:46And so he goes, he goes one 10 and I love it.
00:27:50Yeah.
00:27:50I like this.
00:27:51It gets an A from me.
00:27:52Um, it's, you know, good value where it is.
00:27:56Scheme fit with what Drake may likes to do.
00:27:59You get another guy who can play X.
00:28:01I think you came away with, from this draft with two players who can play X,
00:28:05which means if one of them works out in really good shape, and I think I like
00:28:09that, uh, Javon Baker reminds me of, I think I said this in a live show or in
00:28:13our instant reaction that he reminds me of Kendrick Bourne in some ways, and that
00:28:17he's a playmaker, flashy personality can be a little bit inconsistent, you know,
00:28:21it makes highlight real grabs, but we'll also have some drops in there.
00:28:24It can be a little bit sloppy at points, but the highlights are just worth
00:28:27investing in because if this guy, if he develops all the way and becomes an
00:28:32elite level route runner, which I think he has the capability of doing, you know,
00:28:36his game reminds me of a little bit.
00:28:38It's a little Stefan digs in there.
00:28:40And especially with the attitude and the playmaking and all that.
00:28:43And we saw how that worked out for Josh Allen and it's the fun
00:28:46digs was the fifth round pick.
00:28:48So saying that at this point, the draft is not crazy at all.
00:28:51I mean, Puka Nukuo is a later pick, but you get guys like that in this round.
00:28:56Um, I had, you know, I, I wrote an article that went up in Pat's public
00:28:59today talking about, you know, inside the numbers of this draft, this is the
00:29:03first time the Patriots have taken two receivers in the top 110 picks since
00:29:082013, which was the Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce class.
00:29:14And I think, you know, Aaron Dobson, I think is a very defendable
00:29:17defensible package didn't work out.
00:29:19Josh Boyce.
00:29:20So I think in hindsight, you know, that really didn't work.
00:29:23And I like Jayvon as St.
00:29:25We're on the same spot in the draft.
00:29:27I like Jayvon Baker's odds of becoming even, you know, wide receiver three
00:29:31better than I like what Josh Boyce was able to do.
00:29:34Um, I don't, I don't really see, like, he's got the attitude.
00:29:38He's got the playmaking.
00:29:40I think in some ways the worst case for him is a wide receiver three or four
00:29:44who floats around that part of your roster and can make impact plays,
00:29:47but will disappear at points.
00:29:49And if you're getting a guy like that in that pick one 10, you have to be
00:29:53excited about that because this guy will make a couple of highlight real
00:29:55plays for you that can win games.
00:29:57A hundred percent.
00:29:58And I think, I think the big thing for me is that, you know, it, what's
00:30:02funny about the Josh Boyce example is that he's the perfect example of a guy
00:30:08who is, you know, he was like jacked up super strong, really fast, elusive
00:30:18with the ball in his hands, didn't understand how to play receiver
00:30:23and could never figure it out.
00:30:25And Polk and Baker are the opposite of that, right?
00:30:27They may not be these super athlete guys.
00:30:30They don't, you know, one, four, three.
00:30:32They're not what, but they understand how to play the position.
00:30:37They know what they're doing when they get out there.
00:30:40They're smooth.
00:30:41They're slick route runners.
00:30:42They fight for the ball.
00:30:43They go get, they kind of do all those things that good receivers do,
00:30:48even if they're not super explosive.
00:30:51And again, I just time.
00:30:54And again, it's been proven that guys like that are just simply more
00:30:59effective than guys like Josh Boyce.
00:31:02Just, it's been proven over and over and over and over again.
00:31:05And so I'll take my shot with two guys like that.
00:31:07And again, even if only one of them hits, like you got one and that's what matters.
00:31:13And so, so we'll see.
00:31:15All right.
00:31:16Yeah.
00:31:17I'll go ahead.
00:31:17Yep.
00:31:18You know who else he reminds me of?
00:31:20Um, and this is going to be without the off field issues to
00:31:23be, to make that crystal clear.
00:31:26Jack Jones seems like the offensive equivalent to Jack Jones.
00:31:30Yep.
00:31:30Um, playmaker, what was he saying?
00:31:34Likes to talk.
00:31:35You're right.
00:31:36Right.
00:31:36Disrespectful to throw an out route on me.
00:31:38Like things like that.
00:31:39Yeah.
00:31:40Yeah.
00:31:40A guy who has that kind of attitude.
00:31:41And let me tell you, you didn't have issues with Jack Jones.
00:31:44The player didn't do it.
00:31:45And he's the guy who made an impact from day one.
00:31:47So, um, Jayvon Baker can give you that kind of thing.
00:31:51The only reason he's available here is because he played at UCF and it was at
00:31:54Bama and couldn't crack their rotation with the ridiculous amounts of talent
00:31:58they had there, then transferred, had to play at UCF to get, you know, the
00:32:02playing time and, uh, you know, yeah, it was a little bit older plays at a
00:32:06lower level, but he's right.
00:32:08Yeah.
00:32:08Yep.
00:32:08So, all right.
00:32:09Onto the sixth round, I pick one 80.
00:32:10They take Marcellus dialy dial.
00:32:13I'm sorry.
00:32:13D back from South Carolina.
00:32:16And again, I like it.
00:32:17I don't love it, but I like it.
00:32:20Um, he's a kind of a toolsy guy.
00:32:24He's not, you know, he's not the best, but, but, but, you know, he's
00:32:28one of those guys for me that he, maybe he's going to end up playing corner for
00:32:33them, I think probably they're going to try to work them out at safety, um, and
00:32:38see if he can play that deep safety role.
00:32:40He's got, he's got pretty good speed.
00:32:42He has decent closing speed as well.
00:32:45And good instincts, little stiff tipped is what I've heard.
00:32:48And that's what it sounded like.
00:32:50And so our guy coach Williams put up, um, you know, some film on him.
00:32:53So I'm curious to see what that looks like, but you know, look, it's a shot in
00:32:57the dark, it's in the sixth round, I gave it a C plus, I didn't hate it, but like,
00:33:02you know, it's like, I have no idea what to expect and, you know, yeah, if he
00:33:06ends up, listen, if the kid ends up playing safety and gets in that safety
00:33:09rotation, if anybody's not, anyone plays a few snaps a game or whatever the case
00:33:13may be, it's worth it.
00:33:15Yeah.
00:33:15I, I'm giving this a C just because I think it's a reach.
00:33:18Um, I think they probably could have gotten him or someone of similar
00:33:22quality, either later in the draft or as an unwrapped and free agent.
00:33:26Um, but I don't hate it.
00:33:27You know, I I'm curious why him, because there were other players who
00:33:31have different traits available.
00:33:32And I think a corner is in a position where by and large, you knew what
00:33:37Bill Belichick liked, you know, it's going to be, what do you think is going
00:33:40to be your big long arm downside corner, or it's going to be guys who have
00:33:44amazing three cones and he's going to draft like three of them in the same
00:33:48draft and one of them is going to be good.
00:33:49Like that's, that's the approach for it.
00:33:52And this is not a, he didn't think you ran the three cone, but if he
00:33:56did, it wouldn't be very good.
00:33:58He did.
00:33:58And it wasn't good.
00:33:59Yeah.
00:33:59Okay.
00:34:00Yeah.
00:34:00Um, so he's just, this is a different, different breed of
00:34:04guy and it is late day three.
00:34:06So that's fine.
00:34:07But, uh, you know, I'm not convinced he's better than like Isaiah Bolton
00:34:10as a prospect who they took last year.
00:34:13I think he's going to come in and fight for a job.
00:34:15I think this is the point in the draft where you start to say, all right,
00:34:18these guys are not guaranteed roster spots and they might get beat out
00:34:22by an undrafted free agent or a veteran or whatever.
00:34:25Yeah.
00:34:26And let's, let's just see a guy that we like the traits and go from there.
00:34:28So, all right, on to pick one 93.
00:34:32Oh baby, Joe Milton.
00:34:36It was so much, I mean, it's so much fun.
00:34:39It's such a fun draft pick.
00:34:41It makes absolutely no sense why you would take Joe Milton.
00:34:45It just like I gave it a C minus.
00:34:47I just was like, what are we doing?
00:34:49But I mean, let's have some fun, let's have some damn fun and draft the guy
00:34:55that can throw an orange, a hundred yards after practice that can just, just throws
00:35:00it, I mean, throws it a mile and I love it, you know, and so again, it's a C
00:35:06minus because he's not a real football player, like he's not a quarterback.
00:35:11Like, let's be honest.
00:35:13He's not a quarterback, right?
00:35:14Like, but he's going to be fun at training camp.
00:35:18He has a good personality from, from everything I've heard.
00:35:22He's a leader in the locker room.
00:35:23Like it's a guy that people like a lot.
00:35:26And so I like that.
00:35:29Like he can be your second string quarterback eventually.
00:35:33Right.
00:35:33He's not going to play.
00:35:34You don't want him to play, but he's a guy that, you know, has some fun, does
00:35:41a whole lot of different things.
00:35:42And, you know, so I liked that a lot.
00:35:46Again, do you need them?
00:35:47No, it was a luxury pick.
00:35:48And I think that they had some holes to fill.
00:35:51Um, and so, you know, to me that that's not what I'm looking for, but at the
00:35:56end of the day, you know, I didn't hate it.
00:35:59I thought you could have drafted a few of the guys in that spot
00:36:01that they didn't go after.
00:36:03But again, it's just so much fun.
00:36:06And I love the fact that Joe Milton on the team.
00:36:09He's a fun guy.
00:36:10We're going to get some great social clips, you know, in July and August.
00:36:14Um, if I'm honest, I'm not entirely convinced he's, you know, better than
00:36:19Bailey Zappi, um, just, you know, he was at his career high, something like
00:36:242,500 passing yards or something like that.
00:36:26And six years in college, he's got all the physical traits.
00:36:30Um, but that's also fine.
00:36:32Like Bailey Zappi is probably not going to be on this team.
00:36:34It's, it's going to be May and Brissette and that Milton fighting for that last
00:36:39roster spot, if they want to keep three quarterbacks and maybe, you know, work.
00:36:43Or one of Rorker Zappi is going to be gone before training camp.
00:36:47If I had to guess, it's probably Zappi just to clear out the locker room.
00:36:50It's just not enough, right?
00:36:52There's just not enough snaps to go around.
00:36:53There's not enough snaps to go around, you know?
00:36:55No.
00:36:56Um, and it's, you know, Milton's interesting.
00:36:58He has traits.
00:36:58He's the thing I said in my reaction, he's the broken, but could be fun to
00:37:03fix of this quarterback class, because, you know, you pick up the
00:37:07toy and you see what it could be.
00:37:09Um, but will they fix them?
00:37:11You know, I have no idea.
00:37:12He's, um, he's an athlete and I think you could possibly use him in packages.
00:37:20I don't know why I'm not, I mean, Drake may has some great arms.
00:37:22I'm not sure.
00:37:24Um, yeah, it'd be really far away.
00:37:25If we're talking about putting in Milton for May for a Hail Mary, I think in
00:37:29theory, he could be like your QB sneak quarterback with his size as well.
00:37:32He could call some of the Cam Newton package stuff with him at the gold line.
00:37:36Uh, but I think honestly, year one, I doubt he cracks the game day
00:37:40roster if he ends up making the 53 man roster, the hard thing for me.
00:37:45I mean, you know, people, people are talking, Oh, he's this and he's that.
00:37:49And he's someone who's over, he's better than Zappy and he's great.
00:37:52And he's going to, uh, so look, I'm not a big, but like my buddy is,
00:37:57uh, is a Tennessee volunteers fan.
00:38:00And I was like, Oh, I'm thinking about, you know, when I was writing one of my
00:38:03marks, I'm thinking about putting Joe Milton in there and he's like, don't do it.
00:38:06Don't don't do it.
00:38:08Don't do it.
00:38:09He's flipping terrible.
00:38:10He's like, he's one of the worst quarterbacks you'll ever see in your
00:38:12entire life.
00:38:13Like he just, he's so bad.
00:38:15And like, this is a guy that played for a long time in college.
00:38:17Like he's had time to figure it out and, you know, he's wildly inaccurate.
00:38:23Um, and that's just who he is.
00:38:26I don't know if you can coach that out of him, you know?
00:38:29And so, and again, I'm not trying to make this, you know, Bailey's happy is,
00:38:33you know, to me, he's out, right.
00:38:36I would rather have Joe Milton on my team than Bailey's happy.
00:38:38I'll just, yeah, no, I, like I said, I think that that Zappy is probably better.
00:38:42It doesn't mean that I want to keep zapping.
00:38:46The difference is tiny and also not significant.
00:38:50Correct.
00:38:50Yeah.
00:38:51And so, and so, but just, just so people in the chat understand, like I get that, I
00:38:55get the tools and you see the tools and you see the throws and you see the
00:38:59highlights and you're like, Oh boy.
00:39:01Okay.
00:39:01The highlights are there.
00:39:02We can build this guy.
00:39:04I'm just saying when you're there every day, you listen to the, the, the fans of
00:39:09those teams that he played for when he was at Alabama, when he was at Tennessee
00:39:16and he just like those guys, like, don't just for the love of God, he's just not
00:39:20good.
00:39:20And so, and so those are the people that I listened to that might be wrong, but
00:39:25those are the people that I listened to when they're talking about that.
00:39:28And so that's, that's all.
00:39:30And again, it doesn't mean, doesn't mean that, that he won't prove people wrong.
00:39:33It doesn't mean he won't, it's worth a shot because if he somehow develops, if
00:39:40he somehow figures it out, he's a top 10 quarterback in the NFL because he
00:39:45has some of the mobility, some of the mobility, he's huge and he's got a hell
00:39:50of an arm.
00:39:51So if he can figure that out, that would be incredible.
00:39:55I don't think that's going to happen, but if he could, then what that, and it
00:39:58one 93, it's worth a shot.
00:40:00And so, especially when you need a backup quarterback, it's, it's worth a shot.
00:40:03In my opinion.
00:40:03So, yeah.
00:40:04All right.
00:40:05Last pick pick two 31 Jaheim bell from Florida state.
00:40:10I am 100% convinced that Jaheim bell was around at two 31 because no one in the
00:40:16NFL in any of the, any idea what to do with him, the seventh round was filled
00:40:20with guys that, in my opinion, the NFL just had, just didn't know what they were
00:40:27like, Johnny Wilson, interestingly enough, his, his Florida state teammate
00:40:31dropped all the way to the seventh round.
00:40:34Not because he wasn't good, but because no one knew whether it was
00:40:37a tight end or wide receiver.
00:40:39They were like, I, we, I don't know what to do with this guy.
00:40:42And so could he work out?
00:40:45Yeah, maybe, but there's also, it's like, I I'm also not sure
00:40:49what position he's going to play.
00:40:50And bell's kind of that same way where he's not a super explosive athlete.
00:40:56He's pretty elusive, but not incredibly elusive.
00:41:00And you're like, okay, I, I just don't know what he does.
00:41:02Is he a fullback?
00:41:03Is he a tight end?
00:41:04Is he a H back?
00:41:06Is he like, what, what, what does he do?
00:41:08Right.
00:41:09And I think that that's kind of, that's why he drops this far.
00:41:12And if the Patriots can figure out a role for him, not do what they did
00:41:16with John Smith when John Smith was here, but actually figure out a role for him.
00:41:21I think that that could, he could be a guy that gives them something
00:41:27on offense they don't have.
00:41:28Um, whether they will or not, I don't know, but I like the idea of him.
00:41:33Yeah.
00:41:33And bell is interesting because he's, he's a good athlete.
00:41:37Um, RAS score, I think like 8.6, something in that range off top of my head.
00:41:41Um, he's just, he's never been more than like the number four option on any of
00:41:46the teams he's been on in college.
00:41:48He's been productive, you know, you can pretty much count on him
00:41:50for 500 yards from scrimmage every year.
00:41:53He was actually involved in whatever he was doing.
00:41:55Um, but he's never really been a top option.
00:41:59He's played on some good teams in there.
00:42:01Um, so yeah, it's, how do you use him?
00:42:03Do you have a plan for him?
00:42:05I like him a lot.
00:42:06I like the traits.
00:42:07This is going to get a really good grade for me.
00:42:09Uh, I gave this one a B plus because I think it's a steal to get an athlete.
00:42:15Like this at tight end at the seven, at the end of the seventh round.
00:42:19And I think he's a fit with what Alex van Pelt likes.
00:42:23Again, I was going through this Browns offense recently looking
00:42:26at the way they do things.
00:42:27And, uh, you know, there's a lot of reps where they'll go out there
00:42:29with three tight ends on the field motion.
00:42:31One of the tight ends into the backfield, use them as a fullback.
00:42:34And what that does is it means you can get more, you can use that tight
00:42:38ending, it's an advantageous blocking angles, the second level to
00:42:41get, put them in easier positions.
00:42:43Uh, and they also do a lot of that stuff to get the tight end in motion.
00:42:47You know, you do your play action bootleg, the tight end go who's
00:42:50lined up at fullback goes across the formation and you can, you
00:42:54know, get something going.
00:42:56Uh, it's stretching the defense.
00:42:57And Jaheim Bell is that kind of guy.
00:42:59He's a wing tight end.
00:43:00He's an H back.
00:43:01It's never going to be a top number one tight end.
00:43:04He doesn't have the athletic traits for it, but he's a guy who the
00:43:08rest of your offense is good.
00:43:09You can then just get him the ball in space four or five times a game.
00:43:13And he'll pick up chunks if the defense gives you the space.
00:43:18Yeah.
00:43:18Yeah, I agree.
00:43:20Oh, by the way, TJ says that, uh, Elliot must've, Elliot
00:43:22Wolf must've been watching us.
00:43:24Hey man, I hope so.
00:43:25You know, make sense.
00:43:27Makes sense.
00:43:28And what do I did so well, uh, but a busy says that he could be a
00:43:33use check type of role, which I think, I think that kind of makes sense.
00:43:36I like that.
00:43:36I mean, I made that comparison when they picked him.
00:43:38Yeah.
00:43:39Yeah.
00:43:39And so, so we'll see.
00:43:41So overall I gave it a B plus, um, you know, I teetered
00:43:45between a B and a B plus.
00:43:46I decided on a B plus, I could be convinced it was a B and not a B plus,
00:43:50but, um, but that's where I went.
00:43:52Also, if we could just run through really quick, really quick, just run
00:43:57through, by the way, what did, what did you give it overall a B plus as well?
00:44:01I give it, I didn't grade it overall, but I give it a B plus.
00:44:03Um, it's what really the grade of this draft is entirely determined
00:44:08by the success of Drake May.
00:44:10If Drake May is good and none of the other players are, nobody
00:44:13is going to, it doesn't matter.
00:44:14Right.
00:44:14Yeah.
00:44:14Yep.
00:44:15That's a hundred percent.
00:44:16What, what the case is.
00:44:17I agree.
00:44:17So, all right, just, just, I'm going to just run through the names of the
00:44:20UDF phase, we're not going to break them all down.
00:44:23I haven't really dove into any of these guys, so I'm not even going to
00:44:26pretend to know, but I will just give you them.
00:44:30Okay.
00:44:31So Del Pettis, who's a safety from Troy, uh, led the, led the
00:44:35tourism 74 tacos last season, which is interesting.
00:44:38Uh, Charles Turner, who is a center from LSU.
00:44:41So Jayden Daniels is the center.
00:44:43I allowed one sack last year and 763 snaps.
00:44:46Mikey Victor, who's a corner from Alabama state who could, I
00:44:51mean, Alabama state, come on now.
00:44:53Uh, John Morgan and edge from Arkansas, AKA Arkansas.
00:44:59Um, Caleb Ford, Demet, uh, was a corner from Texas state.
00:45:04Jacob Warren, who's a tight end from Tennessee.
00:45:07Jet Bush, who's a linebacker from Texas, John Trey Hunter, who's
00:45:13a linebacker from Georgia state.
00:45:14John Trey Hunter has one of like the worst RAS scores you'll
00:45:17ever see your entire life.
00:45:18Like one of the slowest people all time, but it's funny because sometimes
00:45:24you see some of those things and you're in like, like Jarvis Landry
00:45:27has like a 0.2 RAS score and you're like, wait, what, how is it even possible?
00:45:31So, um, sometimes they just over, it just works.
00:45:36I think that the best of the bunch here is going to be Deshaun Fenwick.
00:45:39Who's a running back from Oregon state.
00:45:42He just, he shows a little bit, a little bit of explosion.
00:45:47Um, and again, he may turn to nothing, but he's one of those guys.
00:45:50He looks like fun.
00:45:52And the last guy is, uh, Zuri Henry.
00:45:54Who's a tackle from UTEP.
00:45:56This guy has been playing football for six years in college, six years.
00:46:05Okay.
00:46:07He, this is my favorite suit.
00:46:10He has 1600 snaps at left tackle and 900 snaps at right tackle.
00:46:20The guys played 2,500 snaps in college football.
00:46:24He's a veteran.
00:46:26So, so he's got a lot of experience at both tackle positions.
00:46:31Uh, I mean, come on, like, you know, I would say it's a, it's
00:46:35a long shot for him to make the team, but this is pretty cool.
00:46:38Six, six, three, 10, like what the heck?
00:46:40You know what I mean?
00:46:40So, um, so
00:46:43and I'd also not on that list, but they have some, um, tryout invites
00:46:47for Ricky minicamp in early May.
00:46:50Yeah.
00:46:50Yeah.
00:46:51There's two, I believe two kickers who were invited to it.
00:46:53One of them just got invited.
00:46:55I don't know anything about him.
00:46:56Yeah.
00:46:56The dude is a Canadian.
00:46:58That's all.
00:46:58Like the Canadian guy was good.
00:47:00I was, there was an article on Pat's pulpit about it.
00:47:02If you want to go read that.
00:47:05Yeah.
00:47:05I don't, I don't have any details on that off the top of my head, but if they do
00:47:08well, possibly some chat right when the competition, I like it.
00:47:11I like it.
00:47:12So, um, barely, I can't, I can't, uh, can't confirm.
00:47:16He is not older than me, but he's getting there.
00:47:18He's getting there.
00:47:19Um, so my age there.
00:47:22Yeah.
00:47:22Right.
00:47:23See, he actually might be your age.
00:47:25Um, so anyway, so there's that.
00:47:28Um, so let's take another break and then we're going to talk about the, the
00:47:31Patriots news that happened today.
00:47:33And then we'll get into the, uh, the drafts that we liked and didn't like as well.
00:47:37So this will be our last break and then we'll get through those and we'll be back.
00:47:42The Celtics are in the playoffs and there's nothing like the atmosphere of
00:47:45the garden during a Celtics game.
00:47:47And the easiest way to get in the building is by using the game time app.
00:47:51The prices on game time actually go down the closer it gets to tip off.
00:47:56Now, one of the nice things about game time is that they have all in pricing,
00:47:59which means you see the fees up front.
00:48:02They're not hitting you with fees after you've already paid, or as
00:48:05you get to the payout screen, they're giving them to you upfront.
00:48:07So, you know, exactly what you're paying.
00:48:09They also have the lowest price guarantee.
00:48:12If you find a price lower, they will credit you 110% of the difference.
00:48:18And they give you a seat view before you purchase anything.
00:48:22You can even move your phone around and see how it looks.
00:48:25So take the guesswork out of buying NBA tickets with game time, download
00:48:29the game time app, create an account and use the code CLNS for $20.
00:48:34If your first purchase terms apply again, create an account and
00:48:37redeem the code CLNS for $20 off.
00:48:41Download game time today, last minute tickets, lowest price guaranteed.
00:48:48All right.
00:48:49Nice.
00:48:50Okay.
00:48:50So let's, um, let's dive into this, uh, Patriots news from today.
00:48:54The first one is that a Conor McDermott was let go.
00:48:58Um, a guy that I just think we should touch on it only because he's a guy that
00:49:03played swing tackle for the Patriots and performed admirably over the last two
00:49:07years, I think you have a lot more problems on the offensive line if you
00:49:12don't have Conor McDermott and the offensive line wasn't very good, but I
00:49:16think Conor McDermott really helped out a lot, certainly in 2022, he was hurt a
00:49:20little for a lot of the season last year, but, uh, certainly in 2022 and was a guy
00:49:24that, you know, was a little bit of a dependable veteran, I thought.
00:49:28Yeah.
00:49:28Started what?
00:49:29Five games last year.
00:49:30I think at 228 snaps, he got injured during camp.
00:49:33So then he had to be waived.
00:49:35They waited for him to get healthy and brought him back.
00:49:37He's been, you know, all over the place last couple of years, but he was good.
00:49:41He was serviceable.
00:49:42And I think my takeaway from this is that, you know, you don't cut him unless
00:49:45you feel good about your other veteran options that tackle, I think number one,
00:49:50this tells me that they think Calvin Anderson is probably good to go.
00:49:55He's had health issues, but when he was in Denver, he was.
00:49:58The swing tackle backup tackle there.
00:50:00And he did very well at left tackle.
00:50:03Uh, now he's removed from whatever illness set him back last off season.
00:50:08And hopefully 2023 is a wash.
00:50:10We could throw that out the window and Calvin Anderson gets back to his 2022
00:50:14self, because if you get back to that 2022 version of Calvin Anderson, he
00:50:19might be the best past blocker at left tackle on this roster as it's currently
00:50:22constructed, he got really good PFF grades there.
00:50:25Um, so, um, yeah, hopefully that's what this means is that they think he's
00:50:30back because that could have been a very good signing if it worked out last year.
00:50:34Well, and that's the thing, right?
00:50:35We don't, we just don't know, right.
00:50:37We don't know what the situation is going to be.
00:50:39Um, and I think that that's one of those interesting things that like, I was
00:50:42excited about Calvin Anderson before last year, and of course, then he gets it, he
00:50:45gets sick and, and whatever the sickness was, he was out for the majority of the
00:50:50year.
00:50:51Um, and so hopefully if he's healthy now, you never know.
00:50:54And I think that I liked that quite a bit.
00:50:57Um, and then of course, Christian Barmore, a four year up to $92 million
00:51:05contract, uh, the largest non Tom Brady deal the Patriots have ever signed,
00:51:13which I think it's fantastic.
00:51:14I absolutely love it.
00:51:15And obviously the, the new salary cap is a huge reason for that, right?
00:51:22But the fact that they went out, they made him one of the highest paid defense
00:51:29deckers, although I saw that by, by average annual value, he's still outside
00:51:33the top 10, which is wild.
00:51:35Um, but those guys get paid a ton of money and he was dominant last year.
00:51:40He was dominant last year.
00:51:41And so I like him a lot.
00:51:43I love him.
00:51:44I mean, I, I have his Jersey.
00:51:46I mean, I love the guy.
00:51:47Um, he might be my favorite player on the team right now.
00:51:50And so I am over the moon that they, that they, you know, took care of
00:51:55this before he became a free agent.
00:51:56There was no need to wait until next year, do it now.
00:51:59They did it now.
00:52:00And I could not love it more.
00:52:03It's from what I saw, this is the eighth biggest contract at the position,
00:52:08just based on the full contract value.
00:52:10I also saw that it's the eighth biggest at the position in terms of
00:52:14average value, that's spot track today.
00:52:16Is it, is it spot track or spot track?
00:52:18Never, I don't even know.
00:52:21I think it's spot track, but I, I don't know how they pronounce it to be honest
00:52:24with you, whatever it is.
00:52:25Yeah.
00:52:25And I think you can't be wrong no matter what you say.
00:52:28It is spo track, but they might pronounce it spot track.
00:52:31I don't know.
00:52:32Okay.
00:52:32Um, and then it's 40, $41.8 million guaranteed.
00:52:38That is 12th highest at the position.
00:52:41So, um, yeah, I mean, I think he's, he plays like that, so I think
00:52:45he's going to be worth that.
00:52:46And the other thing is, uh, those numbers will go down as new players sign contracts.
00:52:52I think the fact that this stayed away from Christian Wilkins
00:52:55money is great value for them.
00:52:57Um, this contract could have been larger.
00:53:00So the fact that he's willing to sign this number, uh, very, very happy about it.
00:53:04And as they come through his age 29 season in new England, he's going to spend the
00:53:08first eight years of his career here.
00:53:10And this is, he's the core of your new defensive identity.
00:53:15And, you know, that's the length of break maze rookie contract.
00:53:19So that means in theory, you should be getting an anchor of your defense for the
00:53:23entirety of the rookie contract of, you know, the new quarterback that you have
00:53:28your quarterback one, hopefully the future of your franchise, which
00:53:31that helps with the development.
00:53:33Uh, it sure does.
00:53:34It sure does.
00:53:35By the way, I just pulled a spot track and, uh, top the top update is a
00:53:40hashtag Patriots legend, Justin Haran just signed a deal with the, with the
00:53:44New Orleans saints.
00:53:45So there you go.
00:53:45Nice.
00:53:46Um, that's actually, that's a good signing for that.
00:53:49And they weren't, I like, I like her on.
00:53:51Um, so, and in TV, I just want to, I just want to point this out.
00:53:55TD says, you know, for all the people that complain about, about Belichick
00:53:58draftees, and I said this, I tweeted this out earlier today, but as terrible of a
00:54:04situation as the offense is in, there's a ton of young talent on defense, right?
00:54:12You look at the guys that they resigned.
00:54:14And of course you have Mike on women, too, was a six round pick, but like you
00:54:18have guys that, you know, have that thing.
00:54:25Duggar bar more, right?
00:54:28Peppers peppers to Vi is the guys off the scrap heap that you're
00:54:35Bentley who they drafted, who I love, you know, Dietrich wise, uh, uh,
00:54:41Inferno Jennings, right?
00:54:43Like now Keon white.
00:54:44So I just think there's a lot of Joshua, Joshua, who Jay wants to go by Joshua now.
00:54:51So there you go.
00:54:52Right.
00:54:52Joshua, who Shay, I like that.
00:54:54Um, and so look, I think that, you know, in Mabu we'll see what Mabu ends up being,
00:54:59but I just think, and of course, Christian Gonzalez, right.
00:55:02And Jonathan Jones.
00:55:03So there's a ton of young talent on this defense, which is great.
00:55:08The problem is their offense sucks.
00:55:09Right.
00:55:10And so, and I, you know, whatever, I'm not getting into the bell, which I think,
00:55:14but, but regardless, I just think that you look at the state that the defense
00:55:19is in and that I think more than anything propels the Patriots to do what they did.
00:55:27Right.
00:55:28Um, because to me, at least they knew they needed to improve their offense.
00:55:36And so they got their offense and they drafted one guy on defense, but they,
00:55:39they were like, all right, we got guys on defense.
00:55:41We need studs on offense.
00:55:43And so they went out and tried to get some guys.
00:55:44So we'll see how it goes, but that's the idea.
00:55:47Yeah.
00:55:47How do we want to get into our, uh, draft draft picks?
00:55:51We'd like to draft picks.
00:55:52We didn't around the league.
00:55:53Absolutely.
00:55:53Let's do it.
00:55:55You want to, do you want to start us off?
00:55:57I will start us off.
00:55:58I will start us off.
00:55:59And you know what?
00:55:59I'm going to start with a, like, I'm going to start with a, like, we'll
00:56:01start on the positive sides of the negative side was on the positive side.
00:56:05Uh, and there's a bunch of them.
00:56:07I think for me though, it's the lions, uh, in the first two rounds, they
00:56:12trade up for, uh, for a, um, for the, well, not the first, but I think the
00:56:18number, in my opinion, at least the number one corner on the board, Terry
00:56:23Arnold at 24, which is like wild.
00:56:26Does he get Terry Arnold at 24?
00:56:29And then they get Ennis Rekeshaw, uh, at the end of the second round.
00:56:33That's a, this is a defense that blows.
00:56:36I mean, they are terrible.
00:56:39And for them to go out in the first two rounds and get two guys that I think
00:56:44Terry Arnold, I think you could make an argument was a top, you know, 15 pick.
00:56:48And you know, in a year that there wasn't so much ridiculous offense would
00:56:52have been the top 10 pick for me.
00:56:55I look at it and say, that's an incredible pick.
00:56:57And then Rekeshaw is a guy that I thought could have snuck into the end of the
00:57:01first round, maybe early second round.
00:57:03They get them all the way.
00:57:04It's pick 61 for a team that really, really needed help in the defensive
00:57:10backfield, I think that it was, it was a really, really nice job by them.
00:57:16I like that one.
00:57:17That's a, that's a good one.
00:57:19My first one that I liked, um, I'm going to go with Troy Franklin to Denver.
00:57:26They drafted Bo Nix, which, um, I, I have mixed feelings on, I'll put it that way.
00:57:32The fact that you can get his number one receiver to pair with
00:57:35him as late as they got him.
00:57:37I have some questions about Troy Franklin too, as a prospect, but that's fantastic
00:57:41value and a great job of picking a wide receiver with your quarterback in mind.
00:57:46So shout out Denver.
00:57:48I like it.
00:57:48I like it.
00:57:49Well, let's go to, let's go to one.
00:57:50We didn't like, and, um, Murph Murph.
00:57:53I'm calling for a earmuffs, Murph earmuffs, Joe Walt man at five.
00:57:59I didn't get it.
00:58:01I didn't get it.
00:58:01I love, I love Joe.
00:58:04All I think he's awesome.
00:58:07They have a left tackle.
00:58:08They have Rashawn Slater left tackle.
00:58:10They're not moving Rashawn Slater from left tackle, in my opinion.
00:58:15You trade number five to Minnesota.
00:58:19They move up to five.
00:58:20They give you 11, they give you 23.
00:58:22Maybe they even give you their first round pick next year.
00:58:24Maybe they don't, but even 11 and 23 and an 11, you draft Holly for Wagga.
00:58:29And, and to me, you're getting a legitimately really good right tackle.
00:58:34Now I'm not saying Joe won't be a really good right tackle.
00:58:37What I am saying is that he's going to have to play right tackle for you.
00:58:40You drafted him number five overall to play right tackle.
00:58:42I, that doesn't make any sense to me.
00:58:45And so, you know, yes, he was the best offensive lineman in the draft.
00:58:49Yes.
00:58:49He's an incredible player.
00:58:50In my opinion, he has, he has the opportunity.
00:58:53And we talked about on the show that I think if I had to put my life on one guy
00:58:58being a hall of Famer, it would have been him, but it's a play right tackle.
00:59:05I don't know.
00:59:06It just seemed bizarre to me.
00:59:07I would have traded back, taken the extra draft.
00:59:09Again, drafted, you know, the best right tackle in the draft, which
00:59:12is Tali for Wagga, in my opinion.
00:59:14And so I was perplexed by that.
00:59:18I feel like I, I felt a lot better if they took Vlad McConkie later on.
00:59:21It's true.
00:59:22It's true.
00:59:23Yeah.
00:59:23But, um, I definitely hear what you're saying there.
00:59:26When I didn't like, uh, I'm going with the Cincinnati Bengals high risk
00:59:30strategy, three of their top five picks.
00:59:33Marius Mims, guy who didn't play for a long time, but now he's
00:59:38guy who didn't play that much football, Jermaine Burton, a guy noted to have
00:59:42issues in multiple locker rooms, Eric, all a tight end who has
00:59:47been chronically injured lately.
00:59:50You're swinging for the fences on all three of these.
00:59:53I think having that much risk street, your top five picks,
00:59:57that scares me a little bit.
00:59:59That is a little bit too much to me.
01:00:00I get it.
01:00:01I understand the rationale.
01:00:03That's a bit much for me.
01:00:05Yeah.
01:00:06Yeah, I, it makes, that makes a lot of sense.
01:00:08Um, and so, and Nagan says that the penny schools, you have to be a right
01:00:13tackle, which you're, you're a hundred percent correct.
01:00:17You are a hundred percent correct about that.
01:00:19It is true.
01:00:20He did go seventh overall.
01:00:22Um, so it's a little bit different than five.
01:00:24It's not much different than five, but it is a little bit
01:00:26different than five, um, in my opinion.
01:00:29But, but again, I just think the difference is, and I'm not saying
01:00:34just to, just to kind of go back to the Joel thing.
01:00:36The difference for me is that it's the value could have gotten that.
01:00:42That's the only, that's in my opinion.
01:00:44That's why.
01:00:45So again, I love Joel.
01:00:47I just feel like that you could have gotten a ton of value.
01:00:49Um, nevertheless.
01:00:51Okay.
01:00:51Let's go back to the whites.
01:00:52You know, what's just, just a brief aside, Jermaine Burton was one of my likes.
01:00:57And the reason why he was one of my likes is because you're not putting
01:01:01him in a ton of pressure right away.
01:01:04You're putting him into a wide receiver room.
01:01:05That's really, really good.
01:01:08Right.
01:01:08And so, yes, he's been a huge issue and he's been a huge problem, but
01:01:13you're also not having him step in.
01:01:15Like if he comes into new England, if he was the first receiver that new
01:01:19England took, there's a ton of pressure on him right away.
01:01:22And if he doesn't succeed, all eyes are going to be on him.
01:01:24Right.
01:01:25Whereas yeah.
01:01:27Okay.
01:01:27Jim, yeah, there's going to be eyes on Jermaine Burton for sure, but not as
01:01:32much because he has two guys that are really assuming they don't trade Teagans.
01:01:37He has two guys in front of him that are both really good.
01:01:39Right.
01:01:40And so he's stepping in as the wide receiver three instead of the
01:01:44wide receiver one or two.
01:01:45Right.
01:01:46And I think that makes a big difference.
01:01:47So I liked the idea that did that, but, um, but anyways, another
01:01:51like for me was, uh, Adonai Mitchell.
01:01:53I liked the idea that Indianapolis is continuing to build guys.
01:01:58I think Alec Pierce, he's going to kind of take that role from
01:02:01Alec Pierce, Alec Pierce was kind of that deep ball, jump ball threat.
01:02:06I just don't think he was very good at it.
01:02:07Uh, 80 Mitchell is.
01:02:09And so kind of looking at it and saying, okay, we have Michael Pittman,
01:02:13we have Josh downs, we have some guys that we like right now, we're going to
01:02:18go out and get this guy that we think can improve this position.
01:02:23Um, you know, and kind of take that role away from Alec Pierce and
01:02:27then maybe Pierce still has a role, but I just think that he
01:02:29does it better than Pierce does.
01:02:32That's really interesting.
01:02:34I didn't.
01:02:35Yeah.
01:02:36Okay.
01:02:36All right.
01:02:37Um, yeah, I didn't think about that.
01:02:41My, my like, this is a double Brock Bowers and Jackson
01:02:45powers, Johnson falling to the Raiders.
01:02:48I like the Raiders didn't overcomplicate this guys.
01:02:51A lot of people likes two guys.
01:02:52It should be good players.
01:02:54Don't look now with the Vegas offense looks kind of all right.
01:02:58Outside of the quarterback position and depending on how things
01:03:00go in this rebuild, they're poised to drop in a quarterback at some point.
01:03:05If you have Brock Bowers and Jackson powers, Johnson ended up being.
01:03:09Guys that live up to the hype.
01:03:11You could have a almost all pro level center and a pro bowl level tight end.
01:03:17And he had Marcello mayor last year.
01:03:19So you can do the, the said Marcello mayor.
01:03:22That's the Red Sox shorts.
01:03:23Yeah.
01:03:23That's the Red Sox.
01:03:24I was like, wait a second.
01:03:25What?
01:03:25Yeah, that's my wrong player.
01:03:27My guy there.
01:03:28Yeah, we got there.
01:03:30Um, you know, you got, uh, you got that.
01:03:33You can run 12 personnel there and have a good offensive line and hopefully
01:03:36have a good running game and Myers and Adams is a good fit.
01:03:39And I see, I see the vision.
01:03:40So congrats to them on not overcomplicating it and just
01:03:44taking the best player on the board.
01:03:46Yeah, there you go.
01:03:46There you go.
01:03:47One of them.
01:03:47I mean, I mean, I feel like we've talked about it so much, but I feel like you
01:03:53have my, I mean what Atlanta did.
01:03:58I just don't, I don't get it.
01:03:59I don't think anyone's ever going to understand it.
01:04:01Maybe it'll work out for them.
01:04:02I just can't imagine that it will.
01:04:04Uh, and every explanation is dumber than the last one, because if you're
01:04:08going to tell me that Kirk Cousins is 36 and can't be trusted and he's
01:04:11injury prone, you just gave him $180 million with a hundred guaranteed.
01:04:15What the hell are you doing?
01:04:16Trusting a guy like that.
01:04:17If you can't trust them, why are you giving them that much money?
01:04:20So, um, you know, I don't, I'd like Michael Penix.
01:04:24I just think what they did was insane.
01:04:26Um, and, uh, to add onto that chop Robinson as well, I thought it was a
01:04:31little bizarre, uh, in the first round.
01:04:33I get, maybe the value was really good for Miami.
01:04:36They felt like the value there was, was too good to pass up.
01:04:39I just feel like they had other needs than, you know, edge rusher.
01:04:42They have some, now they're ed rushers got hurt last year.
01:04:44I get that.
01:04:46But like, you have two really good edge rushers.
01:04:49They both got hurt last year, but like, are you spending your first round
01:04:53on a position where you already have really good players just because they
01:04:56got hurt last year and you're worried about them getting hurt again?
01:04:59It just doesn't, it didn't, it just doesn't make sense to me in my opinion.
01:05:03Yeah.
01:05:04I'm there.
01:05:04I'm right there with you.
01:05:05Um, I'm definitely agreed.
01:05:07My second one that I didn't like, I'm going with another group here.
01:05:10It's a lot of what Washington didn't it later in the draft.
01:05:13Um, Luke McCaffrey in the third too high.
01:05:17I don't get it.
01:05:18Jordan McGee in the fifth.
01:05:20He's a guy I was looking at as a special teams linebacker in the seventh round.
01:05:24Fifth round.
01:05:24Why?
01:05:25And I love Benson.
01:05:26I think he was taken at the appropriate value.
01:05:29I do not get him in the cliff Kingsbury offense.
01:05:31I don't think they're going to use him very effectively there at all.
01:05:34Maybe I'm wrong on that, but a couple of reaches, a couple of
01:05:37guys that didn't love the fit of, um, yeah, yeah, I didn't love that.
01:05:42Well, and we don't love Jayden Daniels, right?
01:05:44So like, of course that's there for us now.
01:05:46I do think that Johnny Newton pick was really good.
01:05:50Um, and then the Jeff, who else did you have in the second round?
01:05:52Oh, and they drafted, uh, they drafted Newton Senate and Sandra still.
01:05:57So I like some of those on my likes list.
01:06:00I can tell you, I'd like some of those picks, but not all of them.
01:06:03Right.
01:06:03And so, um, so that's kind of where I'm at with that.
01:06:06Uh, I guess to finish off what I have for the likes that we, well, there's a few.
01:06:11I got, I still got, I have a ton of likes and not, not, not as many dislikes, but
01:06:15I'll give you my last dislike as Malik neighbors.
01:06:17Um, I get the process.
01:06:22He's really flipping good.
01:06:24I just, there was some concerns about the way he handled things
01:06:30and his maturity level, and maybe those don't matter, but like, we've
01:06:36seen how receivers in LSU, LSU receivers do in New York for the giants.
01:06:42You know, like I'm a little concerned about it.
01:06:45Again, this is another situation where I felt like if you move back
01:06:48and you pick up extra picks, you can get something that will help you out
01:06:51more than getting a wide receiver like that, especially when you have
01:06:54Daniel Jones as your quarterback.
01:06:56But again, that's, you know, I think it's a little nitpicky of me because I think
01:07:03the neighbors is really, really good.
01:07:05And like, if you can get a really, really good wide receiver,
01:07:08you should probably do it.
01:07:09Um, I just don't love the fit with the giants, but in particular,
01:07:14see, that's interesting because I, I actually love that fit.
01:07:18I didn't put it in here, but I liked that one.
01:07:21Do you want me to give you a pro or a con here?
01:07:23When I liked one, I didn't like, give me a con and we'll, or whatever.
01:07:26It doesn't matter.
01:07:27Cause I have like, I have like four likes left that will maybe I wouldn't
01:07:30even, I got, I got, I got three of each.
01:07:33I can speed through a couple of mine.
01:07:34If we want to, we want to do it something fast right here.
01:07:37All right.
01:07:37Let me, let me speed through my dislikes here.
01:07:39AJ Barner to Seattle in the fourth round with Cade Stouffer still on the board.
01:07:44I love AJ Barner.
01:07:45I think he can be a really good blocking tight end.
01:07:48AJ Barner in the fourth round.
01:07:50Why in Seattle?
01:07:52I didn't get that fit at all.
01:07:53Uh, Miami dolphins.
01:07:56It took not one, but two speed rushers off the edge.
01:07:59They took not one, but two wide receivers.
01:08:02They took a running back who's fast as hell did not take a single
01:08:06interior offensive lineman.
01:08:08Right.
01:08:08Isaiah Wynn is one of their starters.
01:08:10Their offensive line depth is awful.
01:08:12They did.
01:08:12They took one offensive lineman and he was a tackle in the
01:08:14second round with Patrick Paul.
01:08:16Yeah.
01:08:17Why, what are you doing?
01:08:18I'd sell, I get, I get that decorating the house is nice, but at some point
01:08:23you need to reinforce the foundation or the house is going to go sliding into
01:08:26the water when you get into December every single year, like, come on, you
01:08:30gotta, you gotta, you gotta build the bones of this thing a little bit.
01:08:35And Xavier Liggett to the Panthers.
01:08:38I just don't think that's the kind of receiver that Bryce young needs.
01:08:41I don't see the scheme fit there at all.
01:08:44Uh, I think if you're going for a bigger receiver, I would have gone
01:08:46Keon Coleman for, for them, but you know, just take lap of cocky.
01:08:52He separates it's simple.
01:08:54Yeah.
01:08:55You got Deontay Johnson who separates you want more of those guys.
01:08:59You want a lot of guys who can create separation.
01:09:00Deontay Johnson is very inconsistent to the point where the Steelers of all
01:09:05teams who are willing to move on from him, like that's not what you're looking for.
01:09:11Yeah.
01:09:11So, uh, I, I didn't like this.
01:09:14I like that.
01:09:15Uh, last one for me that the dislike was tip Raymond.
01:09:18I just thought it was super early pick 82.
01:09:22I feel like it's really early for tip Raymond.
01:09:24Now he put up good numbers of the scouting combine.
01:09:26So I assume that's probably why he went where he went.
01:09:29I just feel like he went really early.
01:09:31And again, like one of those things for me, right.
01:09:34Where I look at, you know, this happened to Benson and it happened to Luke
01:09:39shoemaker, who I loved Luke shoemaker last year and tip Raymond as well, where
01:09:43I looked at it and said, I really like these guys and then I see where they get
01:09:47drafted and I'm like, it went no part of that, like no part of that.
01:09:50Maybe it'll work out at pick 82, you know, maybe, um, maybe Senate will
01:09:55work out as a second round pick.
01:09:57But like, I just, I'm not using a second round pick on Benson and I'm
01:10:02struggling to using a third round pick on tip Raymond, who is a guy that, you
01:10:07know, Billy even caught the ball in college and like really good blocker.
01:10:11And I know he's got some athletic upside, but like, can he run a route?
01:10:14Like, I don't know.
01:10:15I literally don't know if he can run around.
01:10:17And so that's, that's what concerns me.
01:10:19Does he understand spacing and zone coverage and all that stuff?
01:10:22Like, I just, I don't know if he understands any of that stuff.
01:10:24Cause he didn't, he wasn't asked to do it.
01:10:25No, you know?
01:10:27Exactly.
01:10:27Yep.
01:10:28Yep.
01:10:28So it's a total, it's a total projection.
01:10:31Right.
01:10:32Right.
01:10:32Do we want to wrap up with some positive stuff?
01:10:34Yeah.
01:10:34So some positives, uh, Malachi Corley, listen, man, he's my guy, frigging
01:10:41jets, the frigging jets, dude.
01:10:43But I will say the, the Joe Douglas, you know, Malachi Corley, no matter what
01:10:49text to, um, uh, what's his face to Sala, Robert Sala was great.
01:10:55I'm like, all right.
01:10:55At least they, at least they're going to respect my boy.
01:10:57At least they're going to give him some love.
01:10:58At least I know they love him.
01:11:00So I'm okay.
01:11:01Um, and so, you know, I like that.
01:11:04Uh, TJ, TJ, TD, I'm sorry.
01:11:06I mentioned Cooper, uh, Dajean or Dijon.
01:11:10I love what the Eagles did in the first two rounds.
01:11:12They went out and they got Mitchell in the first round.
01:11:15Um, and then they get a Cooper John in the second round, they move up to get them.
01:11:20But I think that that makes a ton of sense.
01:11:22Another team that needed defensive secondary help and gets two, in
01:11:27my opinion, really good corners.
01:11:29I think the John might end up playing safety in the league, but to me, I
01:11:35think that makes a ton of sense.
01:11:36I like it a lot.
01:11:37Um, and then I'll give you one more, then I'll let you go.
01:11:40And then if you don't say the last one, I'll say the last one afterwards,
01:11:43but to Vondrae sweat, I just think is fantastic to put him next to
01:11:47Jeffrey Simmons and just like good luck.
01:11:49Good luck playing Tennessee with the Vondrae sweat and Jeffrey
01:11:52Simmons in the middle of the defense.
01:11:56I like that.
01:11:58I like that mine.
01:12:00I'll wrap up here.
01:12:01I said before, um, Mike Sanders, still the Washington great culture
01:12:05fit and their defense stinks.
01:12:07So good player, great culture fit.
01:12:09That's a great value.
01:12:10I like that for Washington, Roman Wilson to the Steelers.
01:12:14We've made jokes about how like the Steelers, like the guys who
01:12:16are like bad apples and all that.
01:12:18Roman Wilson brings like the same attitude, but without any
01:12:23of the off-field concerns.
01:12:24Yeah.
01:12:25Um, he's like the, the good version of some of the guys that they've picked
01:12:29really fast player, I think he's a great fit for what they want to do.
01:12:32I mean, I really don't know what they want to do with the pass game, but.
01:12:36Hard worker, culture fit.
01:12:37Um, they're not gonna have any issues with him off the field.
01:12:39So I think that's fantastic for Pittsburgh, unfortunately.
01:12:43And my last one, how about good old Spencer Rattler?
01:12:47I did not love Spencer Rattler through this whole draft process, but I think
01:12:51the best fit for him is new Orleans because he'll get an actual chance to
01:12:55first sit and develop and then play.
01:12:58Yeah.
01:12:59Yeah.
01:12:59I think it's a great location for him.
01:13:01That's kind of low pressure, but with actual opportunities and
01:13:05you got Chris Olave there.
01:13:06So you got, you know, an actual receiver to throw the ball to, I think it fixed
01:13:09the offensive line a little bit.
01:13:10You know, they got, their car has to be on that team for a
01:13:14little bit with this contract.
01:13:15So either Derek Carr was starting, or at some point the
01:13:18bluebirds are going to get loud enough.
01:13:19And Spencer Rattler is going to get an opportunity in here.
01:13:22If he looks even remotely decent in practice.
01:13:26So I thought that was the perfect landing spot for him.
01:13:28Yeah.
01:13:29I like it.
01:13:30I like it.
01:13:30Um, the one thing we just, we haven't mentioned was Chicago and
01:13:34Chicago has the number one pick, of course, but the fact that
01:13:37Chicago was able to pair the number one quarterback in the draft with,
01:13:43you know, obviously the third wide receiver in this, in this draft, but.
01:13:49A guy in Roma Dunzey that, you know, would have been wide receiver one
01:13:53in pretty much any other class in the last five years, maybe not above,
01:13:57maybe not above Jamar chase, but above pretty much everyone
01:14:00else in the last five years.
01:14:01Um, and so, you know, I just feel like doing that set, continuing to
01:14:08set your quarterback up for success.
01:14:11Like that's, those are the types of things that you have to do when you're
01:14:13drafting quarterback in the first round.
01:14:16And, and they just continued to do it over and over and over again.
01:14:19And so, um, you know, good on Chicago for doing that.
01:14:23And, uh, and I, I loved, I loved that.
01:14:28I like that.
01:14:29I think, uh, yeah, this was an interesting draft, a very
01:14:33interesting draft all around.
01:14:35Um, uh, yeah, the next, you know, once we get to August, I'm looking
01:14:40forward to hearing reports in some of these guys, because I'm sure that
01:14:43there's going to be this one player in that we didn't like category that
01:14:45ends up doing well, and we just totally whiffed on, there's going to be
01:14:48somebody in the, we'd like to category that ends up not doing well.
01:14:51Of course.
01:14:52Yeah.
01:14:53Yep.
01:14:54Of course.
01:14:54And that's, you know, that's the way it goes, right.
01:14:56Is that, um, you know, you always find those guys that, that we end up loving
01:15:03and then they work out or they don't work out or whatever the case may be.
01:15:06So, you know, it's all crap shoot.
01:15:08And again, so much of it depends on the player.
01:15:12So much of it, it depends on, you know, the, the situation
01:15:17and that outside factors too.
01:15:19It could be injuries could be whatever.
01:15:21So, uh, there's a lot of things that go into it.
01:15:24It's not just whether the player was good or not.
01:15:26And that's sometimes a sad thing is you feel like, okay, you know, Mac Jones
01:15:30gets drafted the Patriots and he has a really good rookie year and then
01:15:33he sucks the rest of the time.
01:15:34Well, what happens if Mac Jones gets drafted somewhere else?
01:15:37Is he ever good?
01:15:38You know what I mean?
01:15:39Or what happens if he gets drafted to San Francisco at three?
01:15:41Like, is he in Brock Purdy's shoes right now?
01:15:45And we're talking about him as a possible top 10 quarterback in the NFL.
01:15:48And you know what I mean?
01:15:49So those are the types of things where it's like, that makes so much
01:15:53different, that makes such a difference for you.
01:15:55And I think that that's one of the reasons why I love what the bears
01:15:59are doing with Caleb Williams, where they're trying to
01:16:00surround him with talent.
01:16:02Right.
01:16:02The fact that they draft, uh, uh, Amagashi in the third round, they go out
01:16:07and they, you know, traded for DJ more last year, they, they traded
01:16:10for Keenan Allen this year.
01:16:11They draft Roman, you know, they spend their first round draft pick
01:16:15on last year on Darnell.
01:16:16Right.
01:16:17You know, so they're building this offense around their quarterback.
01:16:20The Patriots did the same thing with Drake man, right.
01:16:23Where they're trying to build an offense around them.
01:16:25Jane Daniels gets drafted into Washington where they already have two good wide
01:16:28receivers set up already, right.
01:16:31And they go out and they draft, you know, other guys that
01:16:33can help him hopefully.
01:16:35Right.
01:16:35So it's, you're trying to set your young quarterbacks up for success, right?
01:16:39JJ McCarthy walks into a great situation in Minnesota, right.
01:16:43With a ton of talent on the offense, right?
01:16:46Bo Nix walks into to Denver.
01:16:49And like you say, they draft the guy form.
01:16:51They also have Courtland Sutton.
01:16:52They have some good players around him.
01:16:53Right.
01:16:54So you're trying to make it as good of a situation for your young
01:16:58quarterback as you possibly can.
01:17:01And that's one of those things that, you know, like, I think that the
01:17:04Patriots let down Matt Jones on, right.
01:17:07Not just the coaching, but also the players around him.
01:17:09And so I think, you know, you gotta set them up with, you gotta set
01:17:12them up for success and then hope that, you know, frankly luck breaks their way.
01:17:19Right.
01:17:19And then also that the guy puts in enough work and time to make
01:17:24himself an elite player as well.
01:17:25So I think, I think that does it, right.
01:17:29I think that does it for us.
01:17:30Um, tonight we are going to have, again, I mentioned this already, but we're
01:17:36going to have our guy Thorne.
01:17:39Yes.
01:17:39He gave the Patriots an F, uh, for his, for the draft.
01:17:44We're going to talk about, he's talked about it before he's mentioned it before,
01:17:47but I'm going to give him a chance to explain, um, how he does his grading system.
01:17:52I think one of the reasons why I love talking to Thor is because he's so
01:17:57interesting and he, the way he does it is so fascinating.
01:18:00He sticks with it and he's like, Hey, this is just the way it is.
01:18:03What do you want me to do?
01:18:04Um, and so, and so I liked the way he does that.
01:18:07And so we'll talk to him about that.
01:18:08We'll go through the draft.
01:18:10We'll go through the picks.
01:18:10And of course, you know, he's a, he's a Vikings fan.
01:18:13So we'll talk about his picks as well.
01:18:14Um, it should be a lot of fun.
01:18:16So that's Thursday night.
01:18:18So stick with us for that.
01:18:19Thank you for coming through again.
01:18:21Again, thank you.
01:18:21So can't thank you enough for, you know, your continued support through draft.
01:18:26Um, you know, through all of the draft, right.
01:18:31All of the mock drafts and the live mock drafts and the, this and that.
01:18:34It's great.
01:18:35Uh, it was a lot of fun, Matt.
01:18:36It was a blast.
01:18:37Um, hang with you.
01:18:39The, the amount of work, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, the amount
01:18:42of work that Matt did behind the scenes during Thursday night of the draft,
01:18:47the things that you didn't see was insane.
01:18:50And I would, you know, I was hitting the button and then calling up the
01:18:54did everything.
01:18:55And so, you know, it was, it was great.
01:18:57So thank you, Matt.
01:18:59Well, I'm lucky to be with you and, uh, and it's, it's, um, you
01:19:02know, it's, it's been a lot of fun.
01:19:04I appreciate it.
01:19:05Hey, you're the ultimate host.
01:19:06I just, I, I set it up.
01:19:08So it looks pretty, but you're the one that runs the show here.
01:19:11And, uh, that was, this has been a great draft season.
01:19:14Uh, yeah, that's funny.
01:19:16Now things get quiet.
01:19:17I guess they do.
01:19:18Now we get a bunch of quiet months.
01:19:20We'll get a little in May.
01:19:20We'll get a little in June.
01:19:22And then end of July is when we'll finally start to get some stuff.
01:19:25And, uh, not ready to wish away the whole summer quite just yet.
01:19:29Waiting for Drake May.
01:19:30It's not even May yet.
01:19:32So, um, but yeah, no, it's going to be, it's going to be fun to release.
01:19:36Can't wait for the schedule.
01:19:37At least already.
01:19:38Yeah.
01:19:39Okay. Let's see real quick.
01:19:40Any games on the schedule this year?
01:19:42Like that you've, you know, you're curious to see where they end up
01:19:45landing, what they do with them.
01:19:46I can't wait until I, the Chicago game is interesting and I have a vested
01:19:50interest in the Chicago game because I go to an away game every year.
01:19:54And that's more than likely going to be the game unless we like absolutely
01:19:59100% can't make it work because we want to see soldier field.
01:20:03Right.
01:20:04And you're talking about the number one pick possibly versus the number
01:20:08three pick if they make it late enough in the year, you got to think Drake
01:20:11may is probably going to be starting that game.
01:20:13So I liked the idea of that one is a lot of fun.
01:20:17Um, they're playing, uh, they play in Arizona.
01:20:20They play in Arizona this year too.
01:20:21Right?
01:20:22Like that's an interesting game.
01:20:24And so they're playing in Arizona, right?
01:20:25In Arizona.
01:20:26Yup.
01:20:27So they're playing in San Francisco there.
01:20:29Um, so there's some really good games that's going on.
01:20:33I think the charges at home, are they on the road?
01:20:38That is a good question.
01:20:39I think the charges are, I feel like the chargers are at home and then
01:20:43they play the Bengals on the road.
01:20:45That's how it's right.
01:20:46That's right.
01:20:47Yeah.
01:20:47I think, I think that that's since he won is what I'm a little bit intrigued
01:20:50about, uh, always intrigued to see about the divisional games, you know, uh,
01:20:54excited to see how many primetime games there are, uh, you know, New England
01:20:59has such a big fan base, big at primetime games, even when we aren't very good.
01:21:03There's, it's a reinvigoration now.
01:21:06I wouldn't be shocked to see, especially some late season primetime games
01:21:09because one Drake may could be starting by then and two, uh, those can be flexed.
01:21:14So if he isn't for the team, isn't good, they can still move them.
01:21:17Yeah.
01:21:18And Mike Reese also mentioned in there, a potential London
01:21:20game against Jacksonville.
01:21:22Oh, interesting.
01:21:24And that is an away game.
01:21:25So you wouldn't lose a home game Patriots fans.
01:21:28And I can't imagine they'd make the Patriots lose another
01:21:30home game two years in a row.
01:21:32I'd be surprised.
01:21:33No, no, no.
01:21:33That would be a brilliant.
01:21:34Yeah.
01:21:34I bet you.
01:21:35I'm, I also have my eyes on that bears one because I want to go to, I'd love
01:21:38to do a little podcast trip out there.
01:21:41I'm terrified that that just feels like a game.
01:21:43They're going to put it on a Thursday night in October, like
01:21:46that first week in November.
01:21:47I'll tell you what, man.
01:21:48I went to that Steelers Thursday night game Thursday night.
01:21:50Game's not that bad, man.
01:21:52We left Wednesday after, you know what I mean?
01:21:55Yeah.
01:21:55So that was, it's not, it's not like the worst thing ever, but that does
01:21:58like, that feels like the kind of game.
01:22:01Um, somebody lives in New York.
01:22:02I'm excited to see when the past jets game is, especially cause they like
01:22:06putting that one in primetime too.
01:22:08You know, even when those teams aren't good, they've done that.
01:22:10And yeah, we saw that we got the jets bills primetime game last year.
01:22:15And there was also a jets dolphins primetime issue game because that
01:22:19was, uh, that was black Friday game.
01:22:21You also saw the chiefs game was primetime, but the other divisional
01:22:24opponents have gotten a primetime game with the jets, the Patriots.
01:22:27Haven't now that it's a Drake may and Aaron Rogers is back.
01:22:30I would not be shocked.
01:22:31I think that's a candidate for Thursday night game as well.
01:22:34That's a great point.
01:22:35Yeah.
01:22:36Also Gerard mentioned that he thought they played the Seahawks.
01:22:38They do play the Seahawks at home.
01:22:40Yeah, that'll be at home at home.
01:22:44Yeah.
01:22:44And then Arizona and San Fran on the road.
01:22:47Cause they play the NFC west and then they play one team from the NFC
01:22:52North, uh, and that's the bears.
01:22:53That's why they're in Chicago.
01:22:55Yeah.
01:22:55And that's, they, um, what do you call it?
01:22:59Uh, what was I going to say?
01:23:01They, Oh yeah.
01:23:02A lot of times they put the NFC games like earlier in the season.
01:23:05Yeah.
01:23:05I wouldn't, I wouldn't be shocked if, you know, week one, they're in San Francisco.
01:23:09Like that.
01:23:10I don't think that I don't think would shock me or, you know, they're
01:23:13hosting Seattle in the week one or two, you know, they went out to Seattle
01:23:16for Sunday football week two in the cam Newton year.
01:23:19Yeah.
01:23:20Right.
01:23:20And they played, they played Arizona, uh, the 2016 opener.
01:23:24Yeah.
01:23:24Open up.
01:23:25We played the NFC west.
01:23:27So wait, 20 and then 2012 are week two was at home against Arizona.
01:23:32So when we played the NFC west, he missed that field goal, right?
01:23:34Yeah.
01:23:35And there was a holding call that wiped out the game winning touchdown.
01:23:38Right.
01:23:39Fun fact that actually, I think that might be the last Patriots game.
01:23:42I wasn't able to watch live because we didn't get that where I was interesting.
01:23:46So that might be the last Patriots game.
01:23:47I actually missed 20.
01:23:49Yeah, I missed, uh, I missed the saints game last year.
01:23:54Worked out well, but I missed the saints game last year.
01:23:56Um, uh, yeah, I was in your seats.
01:23:58That's right.
01:23:59Uh, home home, the home people, the home fans are going to get to see the Texans.
01:24:07They're going to get some good young quarterbacks, CJ Stroud, Anthony
01:24:12Richardson, I mean, you know, what's his name is old, uh, Stafford is old,
01:24:17but still the Rams, you know, Smith is old and Justin Herbert, but like CJ
01:24:21Stroud, obviously you get to see, you get to see Tua and Alan and you
01:24:26know, Rogers every year.
01:24:27So I guess Rogers, you don't, you didn't get to see last year.
01:24:29So you get to see him this game.
01:24:30Um, but you know, but to get Stroud Richardson and Herbert all in the
01:24:35same year is pretty cool.
01:24:36Uh, so, you know, that's pretty good.
01:24:38The road to, I mean, you play Kyler, you play Lawrence, you play, I don't
01:24:43know if we're going to include Brock Purdy in this category.
01:24:46Yeah.
01:24:46Well, even, uh, you know, we'll love us, you know what I mean?
01:24:50Arguably will love us is the worst quarterback.
01:24:53They're going to play all season, which is wild to think about.
01:24:56Yeah.
01:24:57They have a, they have a tough, they have a tough schedule, a tough schedule.
01:25:01Yes.
01:25:01It's right now we're in the Warren sharp, second hardest in the NFL.
01:25:07Cause they finished fourth, they finished last in the division, but it just so
01:25:10happens that the bears who ended up with the number one pick finished last in the
01:25:13NFC North and the charges finished last in the AFC West, you know, like, well,
01:25:17that's and the, and the Bengals.
01:25:20So it's like, you know, you didn't get any breaks last year.
01:25:22That's three, you know, if things break there, I don't, I don't know if I'd put
01:25:25the chargers in this category yet, but that's three potential playoff teams
01:25:29that they're going to be playing as their fourth place games.
01:25:33It's really, really the only team that I don't think, like, I'm pretty confident.
01:25:37Won't be at least someone good next year that they play as Tennessee.
01:25:40And even they have a good receiving court now.
01:25:42So, yeah, great point.
01:25:45It's a hard schedule.
01:25:46And I'll tell you, TJ is right.
01:25:47Like give us a really tough schedule, get us another top five pick and get us, you
01:25:52know, a dominant left tackle, right.
01:25:55A dominant left tackle.
01:25:56You can plug in and you start that guy from day one.
01:25:59And if you, you know, in the second round, if you take a line, another wide
01:26:03receiver or whatever, you know, or another corner or whatever the case may be, but.
01:26:08And then really solidify that offense to be ready to go for 2025 when Drake may,
01:26:14you know, really takes over from day one and it's his team and so on and so forth.
01:26:18And so, um, so anyways, but all right, let's get the heck out of here.
01:26:22We were, we've been, we've been going for about 10 minutes
01:26:24extra after we said goodbye already.
01:26:26So, um, but yes, a few things coming up in the next few weeks, we've got
01:26:30mini camp and so on and so forth, but we'll be back Thursday night with
01:26:34Thorne Istrom breaking down, have listened to what he has to say about
01:26:38the Patriots draft, um, and, and we'll go from there.
01:26:41So thanks very much guys.
01:26:42And we will talk to you on Thursday night.
