00:01:34Sam's Wi-Fi is clearly ready to rock, but we'll start with the story of the day.
00:01:38Story of, I guess, the playoffs for the Celtics.
00:01:40Kristaps Rozengas spoke at Celtics practice for the first time since his injury, talked
00:01:46about the recovery, talked about everything.
00:01:47I wrote about it for Celtics blog, so if you'd like it in written form, you can go read that
00:01:51there.
00:01:53A lot of good stuff, a lot of interesting stuff, kind of all without saying anything
00:01:58at the same time, but the biggest quote I think that a lot of people are running with,
00:02:02and rightfully so, because it's the most significant, he's asked, like, is there a target date?
00:02:07Like, are you looking to come back?
00:02:08He said, there's no, like, specific date.
00:02:10Obviously, it's still pretty early.
00:02:12I think it will be clear once I start doing more stuff.
00:02:14Once I start doing more stuff, it will be clear.
00:02:15Yes, that is the exact quote.
00:02:17He said the same thing twice, but then he said, but yeah, not super close yet, not super
00:02:21close yet.
00:02:22And then he sort of joked, but expected to recover at a historic rate, tongue-in-cheek
00:02:26saying, I'm getting my ass back on the court as soon as I possibly can.
00:02:30Obviously, while taking the proper precautions, he also emphasized the fact that he's like,
00:02:36the worst thing is to re-aggravate it, so I'm being careful, but he is optimistic.
00:02:41He is in good spirits.
00:02:43He's very upset that he can't play in the playoffs, because that's, like, the main reason
00:02:45he wanted to be in Boston, but he's doing all right, just not close quite yet.
00:02:52Yeah, and I don't think anybody with a head on their shoulders expected him to be ready
00:02:57to go for the second round series.
00:03:00It definitely feels like he's going to miss some time.
00:03:02I think the two of us have the conference finals as the day, or not the day, the range
00:03:08of time that we're expecting at least more progress, and maybe him being back would be
00:03:13then.
00:03:14I just don't think he's going to play against either of these teams in the next round, so
00:03:18you have to hope that he can recover okay.
00:03:20Giannis spoke about the injury a little bit with The Athletic, and if you didn't know,
00:03:26same injury as Christophs, and he was kind of talking about it, and he was explaining
00:03:29the process of recovering, and what Christophs has to say is very true.
00:03:33Giannis is somebody with a track record of healing quickly.
00:03:36Now, this does not mean Christophs will not heal quickly, it just means he may have strained
00:03:41it to a less degree.
00:03:42We don't know, but Giannis was like, I expect to heal quickly, and then I went out and I
00:03:46tried to do drills.
00:03:50It was a drill where he puts a lot of weight and pressure on the one leg trying to burst,
00:03:55and he felt the cramp, the pain, whatever, and he was like, oh boy, and this was before
00:04:00game one of that first round against the Pacers, so he really just had to keep going day by
00:04:05day and hope it would get better, and Doc came out and was like, I think he was close
00:04:09to being ready to play, maybe would have played in game seven, and then Giannis in That Athletic
00:04:15article was like, I'm not even close.
00:04:19I'm not sure how there's that much of a disconnect between two people on the same team with an
00:04:25injury and maybe, I mean, I also don't, for what it's worth, think Doc is lying.
00:04:30I just think he's misinformed.
00:04:31I think he just doesn't know, because what value is there in him being like, oh yeah,
00:04:36if we won, Giannis was coming back.
00:04:37If anything, it's more people being mad that you lost.
00:04:42It doesn't make any sense.
00:04:44The Bucs are a mess, and they're out of the playoffs for a reason.
00:04:49You almost feel bad, because the Giannis thing was a freak thing, and I do think the Bucs
00:04:53probably would have beat the Pacers if Giannis was healthy, but draw's the draw.
00:04:59It's unfortunate, but yeah, or excuse me, Porzingis injured his calf April 29th.
00:05:06The conference finals start May 19th, which is roughly, pretty exactly three weeks after
00:05:13the injury.
00:05:16That's not saying that he's going to be done in three weeks.
00:05:19He obviously didn't give a timetable, however, just some context for those tracking the injury,
00:05:23and when I say those, I mean literally every single person who watches the Celtics tracking
00:05:27the injury, but yeah, Porzingis was just saying they'll take a little bit of time, doing everything
00:05:33I can to speed it up, because I want to get back out there as soon as possible, but understanding
00:05:36that the worst thing would be to re-aggravate it.
00:05:39He said he plans to travel with the team, or he hopes to travel with the team at the
00:05:43very least and help Al and Cornette and Tillman.
00:05:47Also noted that, importantly, this injury is worse than the one from earlier in the
00:05:53season.
00:05:54So earlier in the season, he had a low-grade calf strain.
00:06:02He heard it in the game against the Magic on November 24th.
00:06:06He was back two weeks later.
00:06:10He said, this one is stronger, worse, yeah, I didn't want to use that word, but yeah,
00:06:13it's a little bit worse for sure.
00:06:15And yeah, just going to take a little bit longer probably, but keeping a positive mindset.
00:06:18So it sounds like it's going to be at least two weeks.
00:06:20So luckily for the Celtics, with the Cavs-Magic going to seven, their first playoff game against
00:06:26those two is not going to start for a full week after the injury occurred.
00:06:30So that's one week, and then the series is going to take at least another week, and then
00:06:34the conference finals don't start for since the injury.
00:06:39So he's going to have, for sure, more time.
00:06:41It's just a matter of how much more time and how much worse this is, but he seems in good
00:06:47spirits.
00:06:48He talked a lot about how upset he is.
00:06:50Adam Himmelsbach asks, how tough is it for you considering this is why you came here?
00:06:55He goes, tough, tough, tough.
00:06:56I'm not going to lie.
00:06:57It's tough.
00:06:58The first few moments, he was very upset when he was like, you could see on his face, he
00:07:02was very-
00:07:03He's talking like me in trivia when it's the last round.
00:07:06I'm like, this is tough.
00:07:08Yeah.
00:07:09The first few moments, he's actually upset you're being an asshole.
00:07:10I'm not being an asshole.
00:07:11It is very tough.
00:07:12Basically, in the same position where I'm trying to guess, like, try not to screw up
00:07:20by guessing the wrong name when I'm holding on to Steve's money in my back pocket, then
00:07:24I lose.
00:07:25I am presenting a man who's clearly extremely upset that he can't play in the playoffs,
00:07:31and he came here for a whole reason.
00:07:32His whole season is shut, and you're just laughing at him.
00:07:36You're just laughing at some thing.
00:07:38Robert De Niro, the joker, he's like, people are dying, you're laughing, you're laughing.
00:07:43He said, yeah, he said, it's not going to lie, it's tough.
00:07:46The first few moments, I was like, and he sighed, he said, I guess it gets you down
00:07:50for a second, but it is what it is.
00:07:51It's part of the sport.
00:07:52These things happen.
00:07:53The best I can do now is be like, okay, what's the next thing I can do to get healthy as
00:07:56soon as possible and follow the plan?
00:07:58Just said he's looking forward to being back, but he's very upset, but he seems to be in
00:08:03better spirits now than he was, because I think at the time, he thought it was worse
00:08:07than it was.
00:08:08But the very thought, like after he got the MRI, he was relieved and he was like, okay,
00:08:13it's not as bad as it could have been, not as bad as I thought originally.
00:08:16Also for what it's worth, said the only correlation he made between the in like the plays leading
00:08:21up to the calf strain, he talked about rolling his ankle on Tyler Hero's foot.
00:08:28But then he said, like maybe he was favoring the right calf a little bit too much because
00:08:32of the ankle.
00:08:33But he didn't say like they were directly related outside of maybe he was favoring it.
00:08:36So just just added context for those who watch the game and how it happened.
00:08:40Yeah.
00:08:41Yeah.
00:08:42Somebody in our comments was like talking about the hero ankle row.
00:08:45So it's good that he mentioned it.
00:08:47I personally didn't think there was a major correlation.
00:08:50It really couldn't have been that much more injuring your ankle and then having to put
00:08:55a little bit more pressure on your other leg shouldn't cause what we saw from poor Zingas.
00:09:00So you know, it's not something you can hang your head on to too much there.
00:09:06But yeah, sure.
00:09:07As long as he's in good spirits, it's it's a good thing because when that happened, watching
00:09:12him leave the game in Miami, I thought he was done.
00:09:16That was my initial take.
00:09:17I was so mad.
00:09:18My mom had just gotten home and like I was like, not having to try to talk to him.
00:09:23He just hurt himself.
00:09:24Not now.
00:09:25What was she trying to talk about?
00:09:29She was like, I don't know why you're mad.
00:09:30Like they're up.
00:09:31I'm like, poor Zingas just hurt himself.
00:09:35Was she not paying attention?
00:09:38Like what?
00:09:39Well, she had like literally just like came in.
00:09:42Oh, like I wasn't trying to have a conversation.
00:09:45I was 10,000 miles stare forward.
00:09:49I just had PTSD to the Hayward injury when she was trying to talk to me while I was watching
00:09:54the game.
00:09:55And then all I heard when I was turned around was Hayward has broken his leg.
00:10:00I remember it that the hair broke his leg.
00:10:04You're gonna laugh.
00:10:05I did acapella in college.
00:10:07And so I was as a rehearsal and me and this other guy were watching the game on our phones
00:10:12and we were crossing each other like we were all in a circle stuff.
00:10:16But we were like, it wasn't our turn to sing or whatever.
00:10:18So we're watching the game.
00:10:19And that happens.
00:10:20We both just look up like, like, at the same time, just make eye contact, like, fuck, fuck,
00:10:25fuck.
00:10:26Devastating.
00:10:27It was horrible.
00:10:29That was quite the year, because then it was just all you heard about was when's he coming
00:10:33back?
00:10:34And remember him like running in like the circles, like they had the circles on the
00:10:37floor and he was putting his feet in each circle as he was taking strides.

00:18:35They look terrible on the road and like, just thinking about like, okay, they won't have
00:18:39home court against the Celtics.
00:18:40And every time they have played down at Kia center in Orlando, they have looked brainless.
00:18:45So that would make me feel better about playing against them.
00:18:48Uh, I still contend that they're not going to punch back against a good team.
00:18:52Like the Don Mitchell thing is weird.
00:18:54I'm sure he's not thrilled that he's literally backpacking them and they're still losing.
00:18:59So I'd imagine when things go wrong, there might be some finger pointing that happens
00:19:02in the locker room.
00:19:03And three seems like the magic are kind of married to wearing blue at home.
00:19:08So if the Celtics play them, that means they have to wear white on the road.
00:19:11And I'm just seeing, can they, or is that against the color blind?
00:19:17Power, uh, I think the two dark colors can make it tough to decipher, so they might have
00:19:22to roll, but they're blue is pretty vibrant.

00:26:16be able to just power over on all surface level analysis on two teams that don't watch

00:26:54defense leading to offense and vice versa.
00:26:56We've seen the C's have games where their lack of offenses led to poor defensive outings.
00:26:59It was nice to see the Celtics stay locked in on defense against the heat for at least
00:27:03for the last three games even when their shot isn't falling for a little while.
00:27:06I'm curious of their two possible second round opponents which one do you think the Celtics
00:27:09might might lead the C's to being a little more slack on defense.

00:33:33them so I'm really excited for this series I think a lot of people have penciled in like
00:33:37oh yeah the Knicks will probably win and I'd probably pick next to but I think this is
00:33:40gonna be a really really good series I think the Pacers are gonna test them because as
00:33:43people like to point out and people have pointed out since this became the matchup this is
00:33:48like the fastest pace team in the NBA versus the slowest pace team in the NBA and so it's
00:33:53gonna be really interesting to see how that plays out on the court so I'm excited also
00:33:57Josh Hart might have got hurt I don't know if there was actually an update on that you
00:34:00may have seen it but he he like was limping around in that Philly game I mean he obviously
00:34:05looked fine at the end made the big three to kind of be the dagger but there was a point
00:34:09in that game where they were making a huge deal about him being hurt so I'm curious to
00:34:13see if he has that same spring in his step on the glass for those interested Knicks are
00:34:21minus 245 to win the series Pacers are plus 200 underdogs we kind of talked about this
00:34:27but it does feel like the Knicks passed a real test and the Sixers even though it's
00:34:31the Sixers and it's kind of funny to label them as a real test but it felt like that
00:34:36series was extremely close the entire time and they showed up in the big spots while
00:34:40Philly melted however kind of feels like the Pacers have that same crack at energy like

00:40:09chance to win I actually don't know who I lean and so I think I'm gonna have to think what we
00:40:14discuss because I think the whole Thunder are young and inexperienced seems unfair because
00:40:20they've already they just want to play off series and like handedly but that Pelicans team was also
00:40:24not at full strength that it was kind of whatever this Mavs team red hot to end the season Luca
00:40:32with the fact that Luca or Shea probably isn't the best player in the series is like
00:40:36significant I'd say like like that tells you how good the Mavs are Kyrie's been on fire
00:40:42I don't know I think I'd pick the Thunder but I think the Mavs have a like like a bigger chance
00:40:48that I gave the Pacers and I was in on the Pacers so I'm excited for the series as well yeah the

00:41:06your money think uh is this the in the MVP conversation series two guys that everybody

00:41:15were not going to win it uh are facing off for the second place the silver medal of the MVP
00:41:21maybe and then they can play Jokic for the belt in the next round if they get through
00:41:25uh this is going to be a fantastic series I kind of am on the same page as you were I don't really
00:41:31know which way I lean I think I lean Thunder because I feel like their team is more well
00:41:36rounded I think they have talent at the top but at the same time like their whole starting lineup
00:41:40is pretty solid and can really make an impact on the game I think Dallas has Luka and Kyrie
00:41:47they're excellent ball handlers excellent creators I think they have great role guys
00:41:51and Derek Lively Derek Jones Jr. but I'm not convinced about the other guys
00:41:58I just I think like the supporting cast of J-Dub and Chet, Lou Dort, Giddy
00:42:06outweighs what you have with Dallas like you want to really put your all your eggs in Tim
00:42:10Hardaway Jr. maybe not maybe you're actually putting them with Luka but the way Luka plays
00:42:15my career ball you need those guys to step up when it's their time they got through the Clippers
00:42:21but I don't know so it's a tightly contested matchup it's going to be one to keep your
00:42:27eyes on it it sucks because it's very tough for me to care about these series when they're not
00:42:31in the east but it should be quite the spectacle yeah Luka hasn't been shooting particularly

00:55:46difference and you're uprooting your whole life to go move coasts so you probably would choose
00:55:50Orlando so right now we're in this little window where there's no is Embiid's time in Philly done

00:58:07really know what the market is for him but if that relationship is burned then that's one less guy
