00:10 What's going on everyone?
00:23 Taylor Kyle's here for CLNS Media coming at you with another episode of
00:27 Pat's Daily brought to you by our good friends at Price Picks,
00:30 the exclusive daily fantasy partner of CLNS Media.
00:34 Alex is back, we got another mock draft show for you folks.
00:37 We are so, so close to the finish line.
00:40 So before things get serious, next week we'll probably try to do an actual mock
00:43 draft with all the stuff that we've learned, all the information we've gathered
00:47 for prospects up to that point, and try to give you one last hurrah before the big day.
00:52 But with this one, we've gone through all quarterback drafts,
00:55 gone through all receiver drafts, and all authentic tackle drafts.
00:59 For some perspective on what kind of prospects are gonna be available at
01:02 different points in this cycle.
01:04 And today, we're doing everything but those positions.
01:07 Now, first three rounds might be more for
01:09 fun unless something crazy happens with the Patriots strategy.
01:12 Really, it's gonna be, I feel like, more focused on day three,
01:15 seeing what kind of guys that the auxiliary needs for the Patriots,
01:18 of which there are many.
01:19 If you wanna go to my account and see my roster breakdown and
01:22 how many 2025 free agents they have, it's kind of horrifying.
01:25 But before we get into that and some news that broke today, Alex,
01:28 how are you doing during the busiest time of the year?
01:32 >> I'm good, one more week, one more week, we're almost there, so
01:35 it's getting exciting.
01:37 >> We're very, very close, you've been doing some great work as well,
01:39 helping me prep, frankly, so I appreciate it, buddy.
01:42 But yeah, you gotta get into the drama, you know how much I love the drama.
01:47 But it's relevant because it's two of the most important people in Patriots history.
01:50 So according to Seth Wickersham, he dropped an article today detailing how
01:55 Robert Kraft reportedly was not helpful in Bill Belichick's coaching search.
02:00 In fact, actually called Arthur Blank of the Falcons,
02:04 who when Bill Belichick was going to Atlanta, it seemed almost like a lot,
02:07 that he was gonna end up being the Falcons' newest head coach.
02:10 But apparently, Kraft told Blank not to trust Bill Belichick.
02:14 And a lot of this stemmed from the fact that, one,
02:16 it was a big part of the reason, apparently, that Bill Belichick didn't get
02:19 the job, but it was because Kraft finds Bill difficult, stubborn, and
02:24 very, very, very arrogant.
02:26 Now, in Robert Kraft's defense, Patriots spokesperson Stacey James,
02:29 who we work with and is fantastic for us, he did mention that if anything,
02:34 Kraft advocated for Bill and pushed back on the idea that Robert Kraft
02:38 was trying to thwart Bill Belichick's efforts to remain in the league.
02:42 So I kind of read it and I just waited to process it,
02:47 because these things take a while to get through my brain.
02:50 I just hate when stuff like this happens, especially when you're talking about
02:53 someone's legacy and people who worked together for so long.
02:57 Just it gets ugly in the way that it has, especially with the dynasty.
03:00 But what do you think about it, man?
03:02 What was your reaction?
03:03 >> So first off, I find it hilarious that the Staunch Defend the Wall people,
03:10 of which I have been a member of that group proudly, suddenly believe
03:15 Seth Wickersham.
03:15 >> [LAUGH] >> Seth Wickersham,
03:18 persona non grata among Patriots fans, suddenly his word is gold.
03:21 The Robert Kraft is cheap stuff, well,
03:24 he cost himself $25 million if he talked the Falcons out of hiring Bill.
03:28 No, I mean, I just find it funny how the narrative's flipped.
03:31 No, I'm pretty on the record where I'm at with Wickersham, and
03:36 I think that I'm not saying he's lying.
03:39 I'm not saying he's making things up, but
03:41 there's definitely some stuff that feels maybe embellished.
03:44 Not even embellished, just dramatized to prove a point.
03:47 There's not a ton of logic in Robert Kraft talking the Falcons out of hiring.
03:53 Now, they kind of allude to this with the Stacey James part,
03:57 and it's more what I think happened.
03:59 Did Robert Kraft just complain about the headache that was Bill Belichick working
04:03 with him to Arthur Blank at some point?
04:05 Not even considering that Arthur Blank would ever be in a position to hire
04:09 Bill Belichick, and maybe that weighed on Blank.
04:12 Yeah, I think that's a real possibility.
04:14 I also think we talked about this when Bill, even before they let him go,
04:18 when we were talking about could they trade him, I was saying this,
04:21 that he's gonna wanna come in, want complete control, and
04:25 he's probably gone in two years.
04:27 And I don't think any owners were gonna be super, I thought this before, and
04:31 this kind of confirmed it, owners were not gonna be super eager
04:35 to turn their whole thing over.
04:36 Now, I'm surprised none of them wanted to do it.
04:38 I thought one or two might, especially like Dallas,
04:41 where you're chasing a ring and they are so close.
04:44 But so I am surprised that nobody hired Bill.
04:49 But also, I'm not that surprised they didn't have this,
04:55 the concerns are legitimate.
04:57 Whatever Robert Kraft said, the concerns are legitimate.
05:00 It sounded like that was the big factor in Atlanta,
05:03 because even if Kraft said what he said to Blank,
05:08 why did Terry Fontenot not have him in his top three?
05:13 Why did Rich McKay not have him in his top three?
05:15 I don't think it's what they wanted.
05:18 I don't think Bill's what they wanted.
05:20 I think they wanted somebody who had a more long-term view.
05:23 And in a sense, I get it.
05:24 I don't get how Dallas doesn't make the move.
05:27 That's the one that I'll always wonder.
05:29 >> Right, I agree, I agree.
05:30 >> But I could see where the Falcons were coming from.
05:33 They were looking at the ten-year window rather than the three-year window.
05:36 And in the ten-year window, hiring a 73-year-old coach who's at most two years
05:42 and done, no matter who that coach is, it's nothing to do with Bill.
05:47 No matter who that coach is, you're focused on the ten-year window.
05:51 That's a really tough sell.
05:52 >> I completely agree.
05:54 When you look at the top three for the Falcons,
05:56 it was Raheem Morris who got the job.
05:58 Mike McDonald, who is one of the hottest candidates in the NFL for good reason.
06:02 Rave reviews from all of his players.
06:04 He's a mastermind.
06:05 He's had success at the college and NFL level.
06:07 And then Bobby Slowick, another guy who's been a very hot name,
06:10 obviously had a ton of success with the young team in the Texans.
06:13 So I thought this, again, when the whole trade and all that stuff was going on,
06:17 it was like, it's similar to you, where this isn't someone who's gonna come in and
06:23 either take a back seat or be someone who's gonna be around for a while.
06:26 He's gonna be there for maybe two years.
06:28 So it has to be an immediate contender,
06:30 cuz he's not gonna rebuild an entire franchise.
06:33 And then we also knew that a lot of these people,
06:35 if you did wanna completely overhaul the way that you would have to for
06:38 Babelichick, it's a lot to invest in a short term project.
06:42 So I'm kinda reiterating what you said, but I completely agree.
06:44 And when it comes to the timeline of when these things were said exactly,
06:48 it does seem a little odd.
06:50 It says in the article that Arthur Blank and Robert Kraft are really good friends.
06:54 So it's highly likely, we saw it in the dynasty.
06:56 It's not like Robert Kraft's been holding back about how he feels about Babelichick.
07:00 Can those feelings exist?
07:01 >> Absolutely, but it seems a little odd that he would purposely be trying to stop
07:05 Bill from getting a job.
07:06 You can have your problems with the guy in your own house.
07:09 But I do think, and maybe this is me being naive, but
07:12 I do think Robert Kraft understands how valuable Bill Belichick has been.
07:16 Just if you wanna take emotion out of it in his business venture and
07:19 bringing in as much success as he has.
07:20 So yeah, I don't know, it seemed like a weird report to me,
07:24 especially considering who the source was.
07:25 So I took it with a grain of salt.
07:27 It was one of those things I didn't wanna react to immediately,
07:32 just cuz it just kind of felt weird and a little dramatic again, but yeah.
07:38 >> Look, if Kraft dumped on Bill to Arthur Blank,
07:41 that's wrong in terms of not letting him get a job.
07:44 But I think Robert Kraft prevented the Falcons from hiring Bill Belichick.
07:50 I know that's what they're trying to set up in that piece.
07:52 That's a stretch with everything else we learned in there.
07:57 But that, again, these other guys didn't want him.
08:00 Other teams felt the same way the Falcons did.
08:03 I think that's a bit much.
08:04 I think that's a bit of a reach.
08:05 >> Agreed, we can put a bow on that one.
08:08 More positive Bill Belichick news.
08:10 We're getting some Bill Belichick media content.
08:13 It's the good kind where he actually gets to be himself and talk draft.
08:17 The Pat McAfee Show apparently is partnered with Bill Belichick.
08:20 And they're gonna be like a 33rd team as they put it,
08:23 where they have their own war room.
08:24 And they go over what's gonna happen.
08:26 So we get some unprecedented access in being able to see how Bill Belichick goes
08:31 through his thought process with these evaluation of prospects.
08:34 He said he's still brushing up on it, loves this time of year.
08:37 We got some of that classic ride Bill Belichick humor.
08:39 It's a really good interview, you can go watch.
08:41 But what did, also we got to hear about his opinions on the new kickoff rule and
08:45 how he thought that was gonna change some of the strategy and team building.
08:49 So what did you think about the appearance, Alex?
08:50 I feel like the kickoff one probably was pretty exciting for you.
08:53 >> Yeah, it was pretty fascinating.
08:55 I'm looking forward to it.
08:56 I'm also like now that's one other thing I gotta track on draft night.
08:59 But I'm looking forward to it.
09:01 I think it's gonna be great.
09:02 I think you kind of got a glimpse into it today that we're gonna get to see what
09:06 a draft process looks like with Bill Belichick, which is so
09:10 fascinating to me because this, even for the last three or four years.
09:15 >> [INAUDIBLE] >> This is the guy, well, so
09:17 I'll get to that in a second.
09:18 But this is a guy that dominated personnel for 15 years easily.
09:26 And we're gonna get to kind of see what he thinks.
09:28 On top of that, pressure's on Elliott Wolfe.
09:32 You're gonna make your first pick as a GM of an NFL team,
09:34 Bill Belichick's former team.
09:36 And he's instantly gonna publicly judge the pick.
09:38 There's your drama.
09:40 >> [LAUGH] And what about the kickoff rules?
09:44 Anything stand out to you in particular?
09:47 >> I mean, me and Bill are on the same page.
09:49 How about that?
09:50 Yeah, I think teams are gonna invest in changing the personnel for
09:53 that because it is now an important play.
09:54 And if you don't handle it right, it is a potential scoring play.
09:58 So I agree with everything Bill said on that, which was a cool feeling.
10:03 >> Yeah, so actually, it would be a good time to have LeGarrette Blunt.
10:06 Really good time because obviously he did pretty damn well with the old set of rules.
10:10 But with this one, like you said, yeah, if you get past that first line,
10:13 you're pretty much gone.
10:13 And we know LeGarrette Blunt for his size had pretty ridiculous speed.
10:17 And if you can't get a running start,
10:18 it's gonna be very hard to bring down somebody like that.
10:20 Which just make guys like Malachi Corley and Xavier LeGarrette who can return and
10:24 are those bulkier guys who kind of just run through tacklers,
10:27 makes them a lot more valuable.
10:28 All right, so we got the news out of the way.
10:31 Let's get into some mock draft stuff.
10:33 Again, if you're just tuning in, this draft,
10:36 the purpose is going to be to ignore quarterback, wide receiver, and
10:38 offensive tackle.
10:40 We've already done shows about them and
10:41 what kind of value you can get throughout the draft, day one to three.
10:45 Now, we're gonna look at some other positions cuz you never know what's gonna
10:47 happen.
10:48 Last year, I was dead set on safe flowers being a Patriot or
10:51 at least some kind of offensive skill position player,
10:53 ended up being Christian Gonzalez.
10:55 And Bill Belichick even said, they had already planned on taking Christian
10:58 Gonzalez even before the whole situation where the Steelers ended up jumping
11:01 the Jets.
11:02 But yeah, it's gonna be a phone.
11:04 We get to see some of the value in other positions because the Patriots
11:07 have quite a few.
11:09 Alex, actually before we get into it, are there any specific spots you feel like
11:12 aren't getting talked about enough that really need to be addressed?
11:15 >> Corner and free safety.
11:16 Those are the two big ones for me, immediate.
11:18 I'd like to see Matt add an edge rusher too, but that can,
11:20 they can add an edge rusher later.
11:22 That's a 2025 pick, but you're just trying to get ahead of the need with that one.
11:26 >> I feel like running back is another one of those.
11:28 >> Yeah. >> But at the same time,
11:29 you can get those guys if they're undrafted.
11:31 If you got, we don't really know how well the scouting department's gonna do in
11:34 that area necessarily.
11:36 But running back from Andre Stevenson, who might be an extension candidate,
11:40 wanna acknowledge that, but he is gonna be afraid your next season.
11:43 Antonio Gibson is the only guy who looks like he actually has a shot at being on
11:46 the roster long term.
11:48 But all right, let's get this draft going.
11:50 >> All right, here we go.
11:52 So Caleb Williams, Shane Daniels go.
11:54 Okay, it says on QB, it's supposed to say non QB wide receiver OT draft there
12:00 at the bottom.
12:01 So we have to trade back, right?
12:02 >> I'm down.
12:06 Yeah, it makes more sense positional value wise.
12:08 Yeah. >> Yeah.
12:09 >> I hope we don't foul, but not this early.
12:12 >> So I've said, I don't wanna see him trade back past six,
12:15 because I want them to get one of the blue chip players.
12:18 But all the blue chip players are quarterbacks, receivers, and tackles.
12:21 >> Exactly.
12:21 >> So this is where I actually really like that Minnesota offer.
12:25 >> Yeah. >> Personally.
12:26 >> Force that trade, baby.
12:27 >> And we're gonna have a lot of fun with this.
12:31 Yeah, that's getting forced, cuz that is in fact the deal.
12:38 >> Does that work right?
12:39 >> I think so.
12:42 >> Yeah, okay, it took a second to update.
12:43 It said we had three and then 108, it took away a bunch of picks, okay.
12:46 All right, so here we are, we're on the board at 11.
12:50 >> Thank you.
12:51 >> We did just miss Brock Bowers, he went 10th.
12:54 >> Damn. >> So.
12:56 >> All right.
12:57 >> Still, we can still have a ton of fun.
12:58 Cooper Dejean is on the board.
13:03 All the corners, I mean, all the,
13:04 the only defensive player that's, have any defensive players gone?
13:08 >> Holy shit, have any defensive players gone?
13:09 >> Probably not, honestly.
13:10 >> No, cuz Latham worked into the top ten, so.
13:13 >> Cuz if there's any guy who's going that early and it's not a quarterback,
13:17 receiver, or tackle, and it's an offensive player, it's like,
13:19 it's gonna be Brock Bowers.
13:21 >> Right, so, I mean, Terry and Arnold's the best corner in the draft.
13:24 Cooper Dejean's like a super defensive back, he can play anywhere.
13:28 >> And he's a returner, one of the better returners too in this class.
13:31 >> I mean, Dallas Turner's here, man.
13:33 That's the best defensive player in the draft.
13:35 That's a great pass rusher, Jared Verstil, two excellent pass rushers.
13:39 I really think if we're gonna take out quarterback, receiver, tackle,
13:44 those are the only guys you'd take here.
13:46 Now that Bowers is off the board.
13:48 >> So Cooper Dejean, so he's more of like a matchup guy, right?
13:51 Cuz I like just cuz he doesn't, the Patriots don't need him.
13:53 >> Yeah. >> I'm gonna leave his tape,
13:54 I'm going off whatever.
13:56 >> He's what I call a problem solver.
13:57 So he may play boundary corner for you one week,
13:59 he may play box safety for you another.
14:01 He may play free safety for you, may man him up on a running back,
14:03 may man him up on a tight end.
14:05 Where do you need him?
14:06 That's where you're gonna put him.
14:08 Terry and Arnold, if you wanna go like true boundary corner, you wanna try to get
14:13 that real one, two punch with Christian Gonzalez, Terry and
14:16 Arnold I think is the best corner in this draft.
14:18 Quinian Mitchell's not far off, but I just like Terry and
14:21 Arnold a little better, a little more battle tested.
14:23 Dallas Turner, best pure rusher.
14:27 He's like, take 80% of Will Anderson, that's Dallas Turner.
14:31 Same kind of player, just a little more raw, not quite as big,
14:36 not quite as strong.
14:37 Jared Verce is just pure muscle.
14:40 Jared Verce is just a freaking bully of a defensive end.
14:43 Evans, I know Evans' confer Turner, he said today was Brian Burns,
14:47 which I think is a really good one.
14:48 >> That's good.
14:49 >> So it's basically, do we want Matthew Judon's replacement?
14:54 Do we want the ideal guy to play opposite Matthew Judon on the strong side?
15:00 Do we want the ideal guy to play opposite Christian Gonzalez or
15:03 just a total rover super defensive back who's also an elite kicker?
15:09 >> So this may sound kind of wild, but honestly, Cooper Dejean is the guy who I
15:13 think, like positional value is not there and I acknowledge that,
15:16 that's what makes it tough for me cuz I would like to take an edge rusher.
15:20 But you're talking about somebody again in the return game that could be
15:22 immediately valuable.
15:23 So he's someone who could score points for you.
15:25 And in this Patriots secondary,
15:27 I feel like they honestly have needs a little bit of everywhere.
15:30 Especially because of how many three safety packages,
15:33 sometimes four safety packages they use, and how much they like to interchange guys.
15:37 Cooper can be that guy where you put him maybe where other guys aren't quite as
15:41 good, or like you said, if it's Christian Gonzalez,
15:44 you have a really athletic true number one.
15:46 But then you have another number two who's really good and
15:48 maybe fits more with what Dejean offers with a physical skill set.
15:51 Then I feel like he's just somebody who could contribute immediately play every
15:55 single down and you just move them all over the defense and
15:57 makes gives you just a crazy headache.
15:59 So I'm going with him personally.
16:01 >> So can I make a counterpoint?
16:03 >> Yes.
16:04 >> I don't disagree with anything you just said, but
16:07 there is another guy in this draft, little bit lesser.
16:10 I don't even know these less than players, just smaller.
16:13 >> See what I mean?
16:14 >> Mike Sainer still.
16:15 >> Ooh.
16:16 >> Michigan, who can do a lot of those things.
16:19 So we have 23 and 34.
16:23 Do we go edge rusher here and try to talk because remember,
16:26 we're limited to the guys we could take.
16:29 >> Yeah. >> Do we try to go edge rusher here and
16:31 then maybe grab Sainer still a little bit later on in the draft.
16:35 >> Another reason that I'm hesitant for an edge rusher and
16:38 honestly if it's a pure pass rusher, I have less hesitation because we chase on
16:42 that one year deal but with Anthony Jennings and Jude on like they are playing.
16:46 Anthony Jennings is probably going to play on every early down snap if it's not
16:50 an obvious passing situation.
16:52 So that kind of creates a weird situation where it's like, all right,
16:54 then Uche basically isn't playing.
16:56 >> Okay, that makes sense.
16:59 Well, but the idea is Uche is in a contract here.
17:01 >> But if you get like Booker a little later,
17:03 someone who has very high pass rush upside.
17:06 That's a guy where it's like, okay, maybe you can mix him in but
17:09 he doesn't have to be a starter because of where you get a value buy.
17:12 >> So this is where it's tricky, you can't draft the top needs.
17:15 And suddenly get locked, because I mean, there's nobody else, right?
17:20 I mean, we could take Jerzan Newton, I guess.
17:23 >> I feel like that's really though.
17:25 Maybe take him, yeah, take him if he's there, but yeah.
17:28 >> I think we just kind of talked ourselves into Terry and Arnold.
17:31 Let's just go get that true CB2.
17:34 >> Okay, okay.
17:37 >> All right, Terry and Arnold, first defensive player off the board,
17:41 my number one corner.
17:42 And then we'll see you there at 23.
17:46 >> I did not think the first pick would take that long, that was fun.
17:48 >> [LAUGH] >> Well, we could get Cooper to Jean still.
17:53 >> Let's load up the secondary, wait, but also Jerzan Newton.
17:57 >> Jerzan Newton.
17:57 >> I've been hearing a lot of good things about him.
17:59 >> You wanna add a center, there's some really good centers here.
18:02 Hang on, okay, so I got a couple ideas.
18:06 >> Okay.
18:07 >> Peyton Wilson, first round talent with a history of injuries, but
18:12 this dude is everything you want in a moderate linebacker, everything.
18:19 He could be interesting.
18:21 Tyler Newbin is the best true free safety in this class.
18:26 He's got the Devin McCourty instincts, he's just not quite as fast.
18:30 Very instinctual, great job of getting the football, great ball skills.
18:33 Both guys I really like for them.
18:37 >> Is Cooper to Jean out?
18:40 >> I mean, we can take Cooper to Jean if you want.
18:44 I just like the versatility, it just excites me.
18:48 But at the same time, defensive tackle,
18:52 if you could pair up Newton with someone like Barmore, I like that a lot too.
18:57 >> It sucks, all the pass rushers went, what the hell happened?
18:59 Darius Robinson's still here.
19:02 Chop Robinson, still here.
19:08 >> I'm honestly off the top.
19:11 I recently was, I recorded a show with Mina Kimes and she was just like kind of
19:15 off with some very compelling points about he's really inconsistent.
19:18 So I was earlier, I don't think I want to anymore.
19:21 Darius Robinson though does excite me, the versatility, at least so
19:26 freaking strong, and he's got pass rush upside.
19:29 He could fit that like Dietrich Weiss role a little bit.
19:32 >> Or do you wanna take Cooper to Jean and see which pass rusher falls?
19:37 >> Cooper and see what pass rusher falls.
19:40 Cuz then we're, I mean, we're probably not gonna take Sainer still at this point.
19:43 >> That's true.
19:46 >> I mean, I like Tyler Newben.
19:49 We could also take Cooper to Jean and Tyler Newben and now we have our CB2 in
19:53 Terry and Arnold.
19:54 We have our starting free safety in Tyler Newben.
19:57 And we have our do it all guy in Cooper to Jean and
20:00 the secondary's freaking loaded.
20:02 >> That does sound fun.
20:05 And- >> You do need a pass.
20:07 You do need a pass, I think pass rusher at some point.
20:10 >> We can get pass rushers I feel like.
20:13 >> Okay, so do we want to Cooper to Jean?
20:17 >> Yeah, let's do it.
20:18 Austin Booker is my fallback.
20:21 I love him so much, he'll be available on the fourth.
20:23 >> Okay, so and then do we go Newben here and just build this whole thing out?
20:30 >> Let's just see which rushers are there just so we have context.
20:33 >> Yeah, and honestly, I'll look to, hang on.
20:39 Jerzom Newton is still here.
20:42 >> He slipped.
20:42 >> But so is like Chris Jenkins, Braden Fisk.
20:46 >> Braden Fisk is not a fit in our system.
20:51 I wish he was, but I just don't see it.
20:53 >> Braswell's, it's really just Chris Braswell actually, that kind of fell off.
20:58 Do we trade back again?
20:58 >> I feel like we can get later and it'll be a really good value.
21:01 >> Yeah, I always want to trade back again, just get more top 100 picks.
21:05 >> Do it, yep.
21:06 What's the best value we can get?
21:08 >> Actually, let's do this one.
21:09 We'll throw 130.
21:15 No, wait, what was this trade we did again with the Packers?
21:17 Was it, yeah.
21:19 34 for 41 and 88, that's a fair trade.
21:22 >> Yeah, I think so.
21:23 I think, what?
21:29 >> There we go.
21:30 >> We had to ask nicely.
21:31 >> Usually I get scared off the first time he tells me no.
21:34 >> And Peyton Wilson and Tyler Newbern are still here.
21:41 Those are both first round talents.
21:44 >> And the second we had, the G-men.
21:49 >> The second there, right?
21:50 We also have linebackers.
21:51 It'd be tough.
21:52 I'm not saying it'll be tough for Peyton Wilson to see the field, but
21:55 I think free safety would be more of a position of need that they would use more
21:58 often, especially with Marte Mappu also probably playing some linebacker.
22:01 >> That's true.
22:02 What I'd say is, so I think Peyton Wilson is a much, much better player than
22:05 Marte Mappu.
22:06 >> Of course, but just the way they cycle that weak side linebacker spotlight,
22:10 Bentley is gonna be on the field.
22:12 For at least two more years, he's almost never coming off the field.
22:14 >> But I think Peyton Wilson is an elite third down linebacker, and
22:17 maybe that's how you justify it.
22:21 He's a guy that gets hurt a lot, but you're not gonna be playing him a ton.
22:23 You're just gonna be playing him in high impact snaps, but
22:26 he makes you much better in high impact situations.
22:29 >> But okay, so what's the argument for Newman then?
22:32 >> What?
22:33 >> So what's the argument for Newman then?
22:35 Cuz I guess that's also a similar situation- >> They finally get that true free safety
22:37 and they maximize, excuse me, they maximize Kyle Duggar.
22:42 All right, yeah, we can do Newman.
22:44 >> I honestly, I think you actually talked me into,
22:47 I think you actually got to talk me into Wilson.
22:48 Because I thought about it, I was like, it's kind of a similar situation at
22:52 linebacker and safety, where you have guys to play in your base packages or
22:56 whatever, or like your starting guys.
22:58 You have good third guys, and then it's kind of hard to work them into position.
23:01 But, man, this is tough.
23:04 This is really tough.
23:05 >> How long have they been trying to get that athletic off ball linebacker?
23:08 >> That's true, that's true.
23:11 All right, I think Wilson,
23:13 I feel like Wilson's the most popular choice in the chat.
23:15 That's who I'm gonna defer to.
23:17 Let's do Wilson.
23:18 Thank you, guys.
23:21 >> It's tough to pass on that free safety, though.
23:23 >> [LAUGH] All right, you know what?
23:26 All right, this is a good time to cut real quick.

24:36 >> I'm sorry, old man mob in the chat, I really am.
24:39 You were fantastic with the people who have spoken.
24:41 Peyton Wilson, you are a patriot.
24:43 >> All right.
24:43 >> Make it happen. >> Peyton Wilson it is.
24:44 All right, so we've added enough in the second there, that's fine.
24:48 Here's what I think we do with these two picks.
24:50 >> Okay. >> Do you think we can get Austin Booker
24:52 to 88, yes or no?
24:53 >> I do, I think we go guard at this pick, honestly.
24:58 >> Guard or running back?
24:59 >> I feel like we can get Garendo in the fifth.
25:03 >> Yep, did we miss, we missed Blake Corum, I wanted Blake Corum.
25:11 >> Me too, you know that's my guy.
25:13 I love Blake Corum.
25:14 >> All right, what guard do you want?
25:15 >> Where's Mahogany, is he on here?
25:20 There he is.
25:21 He's probably, yeah, he's gonna be available later probably.
25:24 >> Do you wanna go guard?
25:26 >> I feel like that's a no brainer, honestly.
25:28 >> You think so?
25:29 >> Yeah, he's a monster.
25:31 And he's a local guy, great story.
25:33 >> Yeah.
25:34 >> I can't even think of a reason not to, honestly.
25:36 >> All right, first offensive pick.
25:38 Let's see, did Austin Booker fall?
25:44 >> If not, then Jay Lux Hunt.
25:47 >> No, Austin Booker's not on Austin Booker.
25:49 Let's go.
25:50 >> Absolutely, wait, is Jay Lux Hunt still on the board?
25:53 >> Yeah, he's gonna be there for a while.
25:54 >> Yeah, I figured.
25:55 All right, now, tight end.
25:57 >> I think tight end or running back.
26:00 >> Let's see who's there for tight ends.
26:02 >> The running back's kinda wet.
26:04 >> Weird for tight ends, Theo Johnson, we're in the fourth round.
26:08 I forgot we had so many picks.
26:10 I thought we were in the fifth already.
26:12 Let's see who's there running back, I'm curious.
26:17 >> Man, I kinda like Braylon Allen here.
26:21 >> I'm down, Braylon Allen, let's do it.
26:26 >> All right, and then I think we get the tight end at 137.
26:29 >> Yeah, we're running out of time.
26:31 >> No, we got an edge rusher.
26:32 Theo Johnson.
26:35 >> Okay, just to remind everybody, I appreciate the passion.
26:39 The whole show, I know we also have a typo, so it's kinda confusing.
26:42 What we're doing is drafting everything but quarterbacks, receivers, and
26:46 offensive tackles because we've exclusively covered those positions already.
26:50 But Dilly C Dilly, I appreciate your charisma and your passion, but
26:54 that's not the point of this exercise.
26:55 >> The whole point of this is to talk about some things we haven't talked about.
27:00 >> Right, and Mo Kamara, I know that's one of your guys, but he obviously-
27:04 >> Mo Kamara?
27:05 >> Is this a good time to take him, you think?
27:07 >> Yeah, I think this is great, he's falling at this point.
27:11 >> Also Mason Smith, what's his deal?
27:14 I feel like he's more popular than what this-
27:17 >> Yeah, he's gonna be a top 100 pick.
27:19 I would say this is not respecting the board with him.
27:21 >> Right, yeah, that'd be egregious.
27:24 Chau Smith Wade, I think he'll be available later, but if we wanna get
27:28 another good addition to the secondary, get him in the slot,
27:30 a little bit of versatility, I think he could be a good later day three pick.
27:35 >> So the question is, how bad do you want a tight end?
27:37 Cuz we're talking about pretty much doubling up on positions now.
27:39 Do you want, Theo Johnson's the last of that group.
27:42 I think if we want Theo Johnson, we have to take him now.
27:45 >> Maybe I haven't watched the right games.
27:47 I just wasn't enamored with what I saw from him, honestly.
27:49 It's like I can see the tools, and I can see him being a good player, but
27:53 I just wasn't that excited.
27:54 But let's see who else is on the board.
27:56 >> Let's call it a triple, none of these teams use their tight ends.
27:59 >> That's true, that's fair.
28:00 But even when it came to route running, I wasn't super impressed with-
28:03 >> Wait, hang on.
28:05 Zach Zinter was a top 100 pick before he tore up his knee,
28:09 in the final game of the year.
28:11 >> It just feels repetitive, cuz I think Sidney Soa has a future on this team.
28:14 It's more Cole Strange that worries me.
28:16 >> Zinter could play either side.
28:20 He's a damn good player.
28:22 >> He already has different hands.
28:23 >> Yeah, so this is your, right, but now this is a high upside pick.
28:28 >> Can he play center?
28:29 >> He's kind of big for center.
28:34 I think if anything, you could maybe kick him out to tackle.
28:36 He is 6'6", 320.
28:40 >> Yeah, he's too big to tackle.
28:41 >> [LAUGH] >> Right, exactly.
28:44 >> Actually.
28:46 >> 33 inch arms, yeah, he could probably play some tackle.
28:49 >> All right, so value pick, all right, so he's our high value pick.
28:54 Let's just double check who else is here,
28:56 cuz I can wait on the tight end until the 6th.
28:58 >> The comp form is Graham Glasgow.
29:02 >> That's pretty lofty praise.
29:04 Yes, Zinter, you got some context, Zinter did play some tackle reps.
29:08 You know what?
29:13 Offensive line is significantly more valuable than tight end.
29:16 Yeah, let's do it.
29:18 Take the value pick, I like it.
29:20 >> All right, we can go back to tight end.
29:22 >> We'll see.
29:22 >> We got three picks left.
29:26 >> All right, so now we get our tight end.
29:29 Get Tip, I know he's gonna be there.
29:32 >> All right, Tip Raymond.
29:33 >> Yes, sir.
29:34 Also, Taylor Glossner, I saw some of his stuff.
29:37 He's pretty good too.
29:38 He's like one of those guys who isn't gonna wow you, but I feel like he's gonna be
29:41 the kind of player that a team just loves and is gonna be there for a long time.
29:46 >> So Taylor, I know they don't need him.
29:47 I don't know how much you know about Torrey Taylor.
29:50 >> Not much. >> This dude set every single NCAA
29:56 punting record.
29:57 Bryce Berenger was great.
30:01 But man, I wanna take him in one mock draft, I do.
30:04 And if there's anyone I'm gonna take him in, it's probably this one.
30:08 >> If Belichick were on the team, I'd say resounding yes.
30:10 All right, can we gamble and see if he'll be here with the next pick?
30:12 >> Sure, yeah, that works.
30:14 >> All right.
30:15 >> So he's still here.
30:16 >> I don't wanna let you down, I really hope he is.
30:18 Who else we got?
30:21 >> Michael Barrett is like a super versatile linebacker.
30:25 >> Okay. >> Dominique Hampton could play some
30:27 deep safety.
30:29 We never took a defensive tackle, did we?
30:31 >> No, let's see who's available.
30:33 I feel like Christian Boyd will be there, I like him a lot.
30:36 >> So Justin Rogers.
30:38 >> Sorry, yeah, go ahead.
30:39 >> Justin Rogers is like the last of the true nose tackles, 6'3", 346.
30:43 If we wanna add a true nose.
30:45 >> Is Lovett not a no?
30:46 >> Lovett?
30:48 >> Yeah.
30:49 I don't think they're gonna have a profile on him, I'd be surprised.
30:55 >> I mean, he's 3'15", he's not that.
30:58 I'm saying like the big.
31:00 >> Right, the big earthy dudes.
31:03 Wow, pause.
31:04 All right, yeah, let's do it.
31:08 Let's get a good nose tackle, we need one.
31:10 >> All right.
31:11 >> So, who was this?
31:12 Trey Taylor from Navy.
31:14 Alex and I have actually had this conversation before cuz I was-
31:16 >> You mean from Air Force?
31:17 >> From Navy, or is it Air Force?
31:20 Maybe- >> Air Force, the safety, yeah.
31:22 >> Yeah, we actually talked about that.
31:24 And it's just that it's very complicated to get a player who's in
31:29 a service academy onto an NFL roster.
31:31 Like Joe Cardona was more the exception than the rule, but
31:34 you know more about it than me, so feel free to explain.
31:36 >> I mean, it's not that it's, it's sporadic.
31:40 It might be easy for him, it might be hard for him.
31:43 Like there's no real way to know, so he's a UDFA to me.
31:48 >> Yeah, yeah.
31:50 >> How ridiculous would it be to just end this thing with Joe Milton?
31:54 >> It'd be very on brand for you.
31:57 >> It'd be very on brand for you.
31:58 Is your punter still here?
32:01 >> No.
32:02 >> Damn. >> And even if he was,
32:03 it's not respecting the board.
32:04 I wouldn't let us do that.
32:06 >> What about Richard?
32:07 Richard? >> What's up?
32:10 >> What about Richard?
32:10 >> Who? >> Richard, the kicker?
32:13 >> Riker, Cam Riker.
32:16 >> Is that what you're saying?
32:18 >> Yeah. >> Dude,
32:20 my least favorite thing about draft season is having to cover people whose names I've
32:23 never heard out loud.
32:24 I will go weeks saying their name wrong.
32:27 And then someone like you who actually knows what they're talking about says it
32:30 completely differently, and I just look like a total jackass.
32:34 >> Damn. >> Wait until they're on the team for
32:36 two years, and then they tell,
32:37 remember when Pop Douglas told us we'd been spelling his name wrong for months?
32:40 >> I always thought that was bizarre.
32:42 I was like, why is the M not capitalized?
32:44 That looks a little weird.
32:46 So I was honestly, I felt a little vindicated.
32:48 I feel like I was the first person, I think I was the first one to tweet it.
32:50 I was like, yes, cuz that was always bugging me a little bit.
32:53 Also, I was the first one, I think,
32:55 who actually started pronouncing Chookso Corcoran's name right.
32:58 Everyone else called him Chookso.
32:59 >> Yes, you were the one who told me about that, so.
33:00 >> Yeah.
33:02 >> All right, so- >> So,
33:03 >> Those are my- >> Will Riker, but
33:05 could I interest you in Harrison Mevis, the 5'11",
33:08 250 pound kicker that doesn't warm up and only hits game winners?
33:12 >> [LAUGH] What the hell, wait, I'm gonna look him up right now.
33:17 Harrison, how do you spell it?
33:18 >> Mevis, M-E-V-I-S.
33:20 >> He's just- >> They call him the thicker kicker.
33:26 >> One of the hit diggers, my God.
33:29 >> And he was incredibly clutch for Missouri this year, big leg,
33:32 experienced kicking in inclement weather.
33:35 And yeah, he doesn't really warm up, he just kinda goes out there and kicks.
33:38 >> I'm gonna share my screen real quick so
33:40 everybody can appreciate how glorious this man's physique is.
33:45 Let's see.
33:47 Look at this guy, are you kidding me?
33:49 How do I zoom in?
33:49 >> The thicker- >> I don't know.
33:50 >> The thicker kicker.
33:52 >> The thicker kicker.
33:54 Honestly, if we're talking about vibes and resetting the culture,
33:57 this is the kind of guy that does it.
33:59 Look at him in action.
34:00 Are you freaking kidding me?
34:02 In the context, when he's next to the holder, this is tremendous.
34:05 The yellow, he looks good in yellow.
34:08 Okay, yeah, I don't know how we can't pick him at this point.
34:13 >> All right, Harrison Mevis?
34:15 >> Harrison Mevis, baby, I'm putting him back on his-
34:16 >> Uniceable, wherever that is,
34:18 uniceable, that's what people say about him.
34:21 >> Let's go, he can have one of those Madden freaking made up little,
34:24 like whatever power ups they give everybody.
34:27 I don't even play Madden that much anymore, I don't know what that's called.
34:28 >> We'll close it out with the thicker kicker.
34:30 >> This may be our best draft yet.
34:34 Let's see how it works.
34:35 What do you think our grade's gonna be?
34:37 I'm gonna say- >> We got awards, that's right.
34:40 I haven't done this since PFF put the awards in.
34:42 What'd we get for awards?
34:45 >> A plus, better than I expected.
34:47 >> How do I know what those are?
34:48 >> I don't either, I keep getting them for, it says it's my first mock draft.
34:53 I'm like, what are you talking about?
34:54 >> I mean, this one means trades, it's a handshake very clearly.
34:57 This one means seven round.
34:58 I don't know what the jersey one is, but- >> Does it say?
35:02 >> No. >> We got an A plus?
35:06 Cooper just said, yeah, that was a steal.
35:08 >> Yeah, Peyton Wilson, good pick, Christian Haynes.
35:12 I mean, we got a ton of really good players.
35:15 Just goes to show you what happens, what you can do in the draft when your roster
35:18 is complete, you can actually have fun with it.
35:20 >> Yeah, I mean, the Patriots are probably, I think they're a year or
35:24 two away from actually being able to really take best player available instead
35:28 of having this.
35:29 I mean, again, this is really the best spot for
35:32 them to have holes where they have them.
35:34 Because this is maybe one of the few years where position of need
35:38 always lines up with, in some way, probably the best player available.
35:42 >> Right.
35:43 >> Yeah.
35:43 >> It's very unique that their three big needs are the three big positions in
35:47 this draft.
35:48 >> Exactly, so they get all scot-free there.
35:51 Although, I still think they're probably gonna have to get their wide receiver one
35:53 next season.
35:54 But it is what it is, if Drake May is good, if you get your one guy who can be
35:57 a playmaker, your year's off to a good start.
35:59 But yeah, we're gonna upload this entire draft.
36:01 Let's see it one more.
36:02 Can you zoom out so we can see the whole thing?
36:04 >> I don't know if I can.
36:05 I'll scroll through it.
36:07 I just sent you the screenshot, so you have it.
36:09 >> Perfect, all right, we'll post it on Twitter too.
36:11 >> Yeah, Terry Arnold, Cooper Dejean, Peyton Wills, I mean, defense freaking
36:15 stacked, Christian Hayes, Austin Booker, Braylon Allen, Zach Sinter,
36:19 Tip Raymond, Justin Rogers, Harrison Mivas.
36:22 >> We're running the ball and we're winning on field goals, baby.
36:24 That's vibes.
36:25 That's how you start a rebuild.
36:27 >> Yeah. >> All right, that was fun.
36:30 All right, buddy, great time as always.
36:32 Now, this is a very busy time for you, so we're gonna keep this one pretty concise.
36:36 But please tell the people where they can find you in case they don't know.
36:40 And if you don't, what are you doing?
36:41 It's Alex freaking Garth.
36:43 And let them know what great stuff you got coming down the pipeline that we all
36:45 should be looking out for.
36:47 >> Yeah, 985th, sportsup.com.
